Imagine
Adam Fantilli x Latina!Reader
synop: Adam and y/n meet during dinner in Italy, spending what seems an endless summer together.
song-spo: mystery of love by sufjan stevens + crazy for you by madonna (this song captures the final scene so perfectly like 13 going on 30 lmao)
genre: slowburn rom-com, heavy on the comedy bc i think i'm hilarious, but def has cute scenes. 7.1K words! (longest i've written??)
Prompts: building tension prompt
an: call me by your name vibezz + one day trip to greece vibez. shy adam with no rizz hehe. too many bad jokes/mentions of his italian ancestry lmao, witty & snarky friendship 😆 i literally forget what team adam favored for his draft my bad. also i know zip of italian culture so hopefully i didn't butcher anything nor have i visited italy lmao
cw: drinking, cussing, skinny dipping, innuendo with spoons?
It was a spontaneous trip which only it made it all the better.
Saving up the money, booking the flight, and the stay. With no itinerary, you spent the past two days on the beach and sleeping in from the jet lag.
You figured you would put your new wardrobe to use by wearing it out to dinner. It was a warm night, the sky turning into a dark blue, eventually turning black with stars sprinkled above.
You wore a loose summer dress to try an Italian cuisine. It was daunting to eat alone in a foreign country but then again you made it across the pond into a foreign country all alone. It didn't come this far to starve. So you ate and drank a bit of wine.
In between sips and chewing, you people watched. Noticing the large touristy family trying to eat dinner in peace. A native Italian couple staring at each other lovingly. And then there was you, all alone with no one across from you but it was okay. You were content. No one there knew you or even acknowledged your presence. With a light breeze in the air and the muffled sounds of people it put you at ease.
You took another and final sip from your glass, as your eyes hooked with a stranger's eyes. They stayed there until the stranger bashfully looked away, failing to hold back a smile.
You noticed this stranger sitting with what seems like his family. Him being the only one on the restaurant patio acknowledging your existence put you on edge.
You avoided looking at his direction as you waved the waiter for the bill. You fidgeted nervously with the table cloth as you waited. When he returned, he not only came back with the bill but a small bowl of pink, you assumed, what was strawberry gelato.
"Oh I didn't order this," you looked at the waiter with confusion,
"No, he did." he pointed across the outdoor patio to said stranger. He had a slight blush to his cheeks, nodding his head to the both of you.
"I see, thank you." you bid goodbye the his service after paying for your meal. You looked back down at the cold dessert and right up the stranger. You took a big sigh as you signaled him to come over to your table. You noticed how his eyes widened and him talking to his presumed family. He made his way to your single table as his family's eyes followed his path.
By the time he sat across from you, his family's eyes were on you, but you ignored them for now,
"Bold move with the soft serve." you finally took a bite of the gelato, waiting for him to make another move.
"Is it? I was just trying to be nice I guess."
"Just nice? What if I didn't call you over? Would you send another dessert?" you teased him, curious of his thinking.
He laughed, "Maybe I would have ordered one for me after the rejection," he took a clean spoon from the table and dove into your dessert, "but you did call me over, so thanks." the spoon made a pop sound when he licked it clean.
"I'm Adam."
"Well Adam, you just took a bite of my gelato."
"Well technically I paid for it." He said as he took another spoonful from your bowl.
"Wow, so thats how you treat a lady?" you dramatically say as you eat more of you and Adam's dessert.
"I'm y/n." you lean back into your chair, staring this man down. You caught what seems like his brother and mother peeking behind his shoulder from their table.
"Is that your family?" you nodded towards their direction. He turned around and saw them snap their heads in any other direction.
He chortled, running his hand through his hair, "Yeah, don't pay attention to them. They'll just embarrass me."
"What, you don't pick up girls often? Especially with dessert?" you joked and he laughed too,
He shook his head as he laughed but stared at you intently with a soft smile, "No, no I don't."
You didn't think his sweet gesture would lead anywhere, but you were starting to like him.
"So, Adam, have you been in Italy before?" It was a silly question to ask but you didn't know anything about him. He went on to tell you how he had family here and he had visited often. He even mentioned his last name and that definitely proved his rich culture to your amusement,
"Fantilli?! Wow, I don't think I've ever heard such an Italian name before!"
"It's not that Italian..." he basked in his shyness as he rambled off on his culture,
"Oh you're kidding, you got the double i and everything." you enjoyed teasing him because you both knew it was light hearted.
"So where are you from?" The shared gelato had been long gone yet the conversation flowed smoothly.
"Nobleton, it's near Toronto, but I live in Columbus for work."
"Columbus as in Ohio?!" you squinted at his answer, forcing him to hold back a laugh.
"Well it wasn't really my choice, LA would have been my first choice."
"Somehow LA is worse than Ohio." you blatantly say making him laugh. Before you could ask him more about which lesser of the cities were his choice, a tall figure appeared at your table.
"Hey bro, mom and dad are ready to head back." The standing figure smiled to you and smirked to Adam making him scoff at him.
"I'll be there in a few." Adam replied
"For sure," he said with another grin as he loudly slapped Adam's shoulder as he walked off.
"Was that your brother?" you asked the obvious,
"Unfortunately," he tried to not reach for his shoulder but his face grimaced in pain.
"Well." you said waiting to see how Adam was going to end this night,
"Well...what?" he chuckled ignorantly
"It was nice talking with you." you said honestly,
"Oh yeah, it was" he stands and gets ready to leave "have a goodnight y/n"
"Adam!" you raise your voice before he turns all the way, "Are you really not gonna ask for my number?"
"I didn't know you still wanted to talk with me." he rubbed the back of his neck,
"You know you have to be more bold than ordering dessert across a restaurant to know if a girl is in interested." you stood up to sort of reach his level, "So?"
He pulled out his phone and handed it to you,
"There, now we can talk more if you want to." you gave back his phone,
"Oh, I want to."
"Then I expect a text whenever possible." Both of you were aware that you would have less than a week together in Italy but it would be enough.
"Your family is waiting," you whispered,
"I'll see you soon y/n," he whispered back,
"I hope so." you watched him walk back to his family and left before they could catch another glimpse of you.
--- Day One ---
The next morning you got dressed for whatever the day presented with. You walked to a near cafe for a freshly brewed cappuccino and buttered pastry.
You were in the middle of journaling your trip so far, about to detail the discourse of the night before, when said discourse sat across from you.
"Morning stranger, I was just going to text you," he said with sunglasses on.
You nonchalantly closed your journal, "Were you? before or after ordering breakfast?"
"Well it looks like you just finished yours," he reached to the small and last portion of your croissant,
"You know what Fantilli, you are making a habit of eating my food."
"I'll make it up to you, c'mon," he softly grabbed your hand and pulled you away from the incoming tourist traffic,
"And where are we going?" you struggled to put your journal back into your bag.
"It's a surprise."
"Let me guess, the beach?"
"Somewhere where only the locals know about," he teased his idea. He noticed his hand was now intertwined with yours and hesitated to remove his hand. Before you even noticed his hand placement, he slyly moved his away to fix his hair under his hat.
After complaining of walking for at least 15 minutes, you finally went off trail, into nature, walking on sand to a huge cove opening of a secluded beach. The both of you stood in the cove's shade, watching the small waves crashing onto shore.
"I'll give you props of your local knowledge," you yelled over the ocean's noise that echoed in the cove with your hands on your hips.
"Does it make up for the croissant?"
"It does. But you still ate my gelato last night,"
"Yeah I knew you wouldn't forget about that so I have another surprise location after this one,"
"Woah, you came prepared Fantilli," you jokingly pushed him away, noticing his newfound confidence in comparison of last night.
"Do you have swim shorts on?" you asked him, inching closer towards the shore,
"Like you said, I came prepared."
"Then, last one to the water owes the other a gelato!" you bolted running halfway through your sentence, tossing your bag to the side, leaving Adam shocked but he was right after you.
Adam was far behind to see you swiftly take off your sundress and dive into the cool clear waters. Coming up for air, you saw him struggle to take off his regular shorts on the shore, leaving him embarrassed by your gaze.
"C'mon Fantilli, do you need my help?!" you yelled across the distance with a smirk. Soon he came into the water too, his shoulders shaking from the cold.
"You owe me a gelato." you said with a grin.
"Fine. But I'll just eat some of it, again." he said with a dumb smirk,
"I won't let you," you splashed a bit of water at him which ensued in a way too serious water fight. After both of you surrendering for the nth time and coughing up water, you dried out in the sun. You started a new journal entry, describing the cove and its scenery.
Adam on the other hand, noticed your small camera in an open pocket of your bag, and took it to himself to capture the late morning with photographs. He caught a single candid of you journaling, the immediate next shot was you noticing him taking pictures.
"What are doing?"
"Capturing memories." he turned the camera over the take a selfie of the two of you, "smile!"
You snatched your camera back to look at the photos and they were actually pretty good.
"So where is this second secret location, hm?"
"It's a secret for a reason."
“I don’t like secrets.” you admitted
“Yeah I can tell.”
“Don’t be rude.” you nudged his shoulder again
“I’m not, I’m just making an observation.” he laughed at your faked offense,
“Just promise me we won’t have to walk as far.”
“I promise we won’t have to walk at all.”
“Now I’m starting to like the sound of this.”
After drying in the sun completely you made it back to the city to call a taxi to take you said secret location.
The taxi dropped you off in the outskirts of the city, off the road there was a large shed of racks on racks of bicycles.
“Okay what exactly is this secret location?” you asked perplexed,
“This is only halfway to our destination, we bike the rest way in.”
Adam rented two bikes for the both of you and although you were caught off guard, you enjoyed biking, catching a breeze rather than walking in uncomfortable shoes.
You wanted to bug Adam again of where you were going on the ride to there, but you soon figured it out. In the distance there were rows of what you assumed were grape vines.
You were so preoccupied of where you were going that you didn’t appreciate the view of the countryside. It was beautiful to say the least, the skies were clear expect with big silky white clouds, the fields were bright green with patches of yellow, and the winding hills in the distance were mesmerizing.
When you reached the vineyard there was again racks on racks of bikes and once stocked away, Adam guided you to join a tour of wine tasting the freshest grapes of Italy, at least that’s what he said.
You weren’t a big drinker, nor a fan of wine but it felt appropriate to wine taste when in Italy. You didn’t want to drink too much because you did have to bike back. Which left you curious on how many people crashed into bushes on the way back.
Luckily the vineyard also had a restaurant so you could finally get something proper to eat along with the alcohol.
“Cheers,” you clinked your glass with Adam’s as the crumbs of lunch sat on your plates.
"I'll give you credit Fantilli, your locations are superb for a tourist like me. I've been graced with your existence to be my personal guide." You had a trait for theatrics.
"Thank you, but to be regarded as only a personal tourist guide hurts a little." Adam put his hand over his heart. He reached your level of theatrics very well.
"Okay in addition to a phenomenal guide, you are becoming a friendly friend."
"Friendly friend." he repeated robotically, mocking you.
"That is what I said." you took another sip of your wine to hide your embarrassment on how to describe what the two of you have. Luckily the waiter had returned with none other than strawberry gelato.
"Here you go, friendly friend, your promised gelato." He pushed the bowl towards you, "And I promise this time I won't eat it," you could tell he meant it as he crossed his arms across his chest.
"How nice of you," you took the first bite of the cold dessert which was much needed for the hot and fun day you two had. Which only made you feel bad for him.
"Do you want some?" you asked as licked your spoon clean,
He stumbled onto his words as he stared at you, "Nope I'm good."
If he really wanted some he would order one for himself, you thought. But hell, he can have a spoonful or two of your gelato. He's made a habit of paying for them so might as well.
You slightly sighed as you pushed the bowl towards him, "Go ahead have some."
"I'm fine really. Plus I bought it for you since you won fair and square." He tried to be humble but you could read him like a book in the moment.
"I can practically hear your salivating all the way from here." You dipped a new spoon into the bowl and gestured to him, "So have some."
"Are you sure?" he finally broke as he uncrossed his arms,
"Yes I'm sure. I don't want you passing out from not eating a cold soft serve on a hot day."
He didn't hesitate on your yes and dove in but was able to mumble with a mouth full, "gelato isn't a soft serve, actually."
"I should have let you passed out."
He smiled as he wiped gelato off his lips. You smiled at how stupidly cute he was. The first day spent together was short as he had plans with his family the later half of the day but promised to have a fun itinerary to spend with you.
--- Day Two ---
Your afternoon was shared with Adam this day. And he went all out this time. He told you to meet him by a near ship dock, which already had you stressed of where this was going.
He texted you the night before to wear active clothes but have a swimsuit on. When he mentioned the first you tried not to complain so early.
So you found yourself dressed in appropriate clothing waiting for him.
"Yo!" you turned to see who was calling and you saw Adam standing in a small size boat with his arms stretched out all proud.
"Hi," you walked forward, "So what's the plan for today?"
"Well do you see that island not that far away?" he pointed towards a small but very clear island across the water, "There is one my best local locations, but we have to get there on boat, obviously." he stretched out his hand to help you step inside.
"And whose boat is this?" you asked out of concern how costly these expenses were,
"My family's." he said with a soft smile. You couldn't tell if that was better or worse.
You placed your bag on the many of available seats, "Okay, so whose steering the boat?" you turned to him with your hands on your hips, looking for any other sign of the driver.
Your eyes followed Adam as he got behind the wheel, staring the engine, turning back to you; "I'm your captain this evening." he said with a big grin as he steered away from the dock, making you lose your balance,
"Oh! Of course you are!" you sarcastically yell over the loud engine. We are so dead, you thought, as you sat down in the passenger seat.
You held onto your hat as the strong winds were begging to pull it off your head. Adam noticed your uneasiness and tried to calm you with his stories of driving since a young age. After the short ride to the island and docking safely you felt slightly confident into his skills.
As soon as you two docked, you didn't notice much of the Island besides a small beach and the mountain itself.
"We're not hiking this Island, are we?" you asked as you both walked towards a base of a trail,
"Fortunately, yes." he answered as he fidgeted with his sunglasses on his nose,
"You do remember me complaining of walking yesterday right?"
"Yep" he said ever so nonchalantly
"So you thought hiking would be the next best thing to do?" you tried to reciprocate his calm demeanor but you could already imagine how sore your legs would be in the morning.
"Listen, the hike is not that bad and the view on top is rewarding!"
Ten minutes into climbing elevation, he lied. You were trying your best to control your breathing as he looked like he was barely breathing.
He was kind enough to stay with your pace though, "Just a little more," he said to inspire motivation,
"Out of curiosity, why are you not heaving like me?" He tried to laugh it off until you came to a stop. You were glad his answer was long enough for you to probe with more questions to give you a break. Nevertheless his answer left you surprised and impressed.
"Now you know why Ohio wasn't my first choice." He grabbed you hand and pulled you to keep on walking.
Now, you didn't hike the whole Island but just high enough to make matters worse, cliff jump. Still holding your hand, Adam slowly guided you towards an opening of trees and bushes to look over a cliff at dark blue water, which only made you feel sick.
"This view is not rewarding. My stomach is churning." you admitted as you pulled back from the scary view, removing your hand from his.
"Oh c'mon we are barely that high up,"
"We are high enough! Even if I were to jump, how do we get our clothes back?" you stared at him intently waiting for an answer,
He just stood there grimacing knowing you wouldn't like the answer, "We hike back...?"
"You're joking." you say exasperatedly. You didn't say it aloud, but these plans were a huge downgrade the day before.
He stepped forward and grabbed your hands, "We already made it up here and technically there is only one fun way down, so why not?"
You stood there staring at him blankly. "I'll hike back alone to get our stuff. Would you do it then?" he tried to negotiate but you were not budging,
"You would have to throw me off this cliff before I jump." your statement led him to raise an eyebrow and smirk,
"You are not throwing me off this damn cliff!" you lightly pushed his arms away,
"I would never. But think about it, if you jump you don't have to walk or hike at all!"
"If I jump, I'll probably never walk again!"
He tried to hold back a laugh, "Literally we are not that high up and if you land right you'll be fine. We'll jump together and I'll make sure."
You looked at him like he was crazy. You slowly walked over to peek over the cliff again and you guessed it wasn't that high. You shut your eyes tight and cursed him out in your head.
"Fuck it if this dive doesn't kill me you better hope it does." You started to take off your shoes and clothes revealing your swimsuit.
Adam stood there watching you and how quickly your mood changed, "You better start stripping because this adrenaline is temporary." He quickly followed suit and was ready to jump.
Your body shook in nerves and excitement, "Ready?" he asked as he held your again for the nth time,
All you could sound out was a scared mhm as you squeezed his hand. Then he started counting, "One...Two...Three!" You felt your body go numb as you ran off that cliff, involuntarily screaming before holding your breath for the cold impact. You opened your eyes underwater as you quickly tried to swim back up for air.
As soon as you broke the surface you looked for Adam. When you found him he broke the surface too and flipped his soaked hair behind him. When he saw you, he smiled making you break out into a huge grin, "You did it!" he yelled in pride,
"That was insane!" you bursted out laughing, almost turning hysterical but Adam started laughing too.
As the ocean's movement was nudging you, you admired at the island and it's size. You took in nature's colors from the dark blue water to the grey and browns rock formation to the bright green foliage of the trees. The sun was heading west on the opposite side, leaving you and Adam to float in the Island's shade.
As your adrenaline started to wear off, you started to feel how cold the water really was and decided to swim back to shore.
As you walked back to the dock, Adam asked, "So do you still want to kill me?"
"Not at the moment, no. Just don't try that scenario ever again."
You patiently waited, wrapped in a towel, for Adam to bring back your stuff, and you didn't feel any bit guilty for it.
He made it back less than 20 minutes, as you saw a glimpse of him jogging down the hill with your bag around him.
"Here you go, my lady" he passed you your bag, out of breath.
"Thank you, kind sir." you slipped on a sun dress you packed away.
After a few minutes of readjusting, you were on your way back to the mainland. Just in time as golden hour was setting in. The cool breeze felt calming after that rush. The breeze slowed down as the boat came to a slow stop.
"What's wrong?" you asked Adam, assuming the worst, if you two were now stranded right between two land markings.
"Just wanted to stop for a bit to enjoy the sunset on the water," He made his way over the rear of the boat with the cushioned seats. You followed his actions, taking a seat next to him; your torsos turned to the vast water. It was nature's silence filled with the calm waves splashing against the boat. Both of you sat there in shared existence, wishing the moment could last longer than it would end.
Adam turned his head to look at you, he noticed how the sun lit up your warm skin tone perfectly. How the golden hour made your hair shine. He couldn't describe it more awkwardly by saying, "You look shiny."
You furrowed your brows with a smirk on your face, "shiny?" you questioned as you looked at him,
"I mean you're glowing." he stumbled over his vocabulary as he wanted to smack himself,
"Glowing?" you poked fun at him crumbling right before your eyes.
"Ugh the sun is hitting your face perfectly. You look good." he said tired of his attempts to simply compliment a girl.
You reiterated plainly as possible, "I look good." ensuing him to groan in embarrassment, covering his face with his hands.
You nudge his shoulder laughing at his embarrassment, "You're adorable," you whisper.
You sat there, hugging your knees, laying your head on them as you admired the boy who has made this trip more special than you could have possibly imagined.
He turned to look at you only to be met with your intimidating gaze, but he held it as he realized for the past 48 hours, his mind has been flooded of you and only you.
As he held your shared gaze, you lifted your head, straightening your posture expecting him to lean forward. Although he considers it, he turns away and clears his throat, "We should head back before it gets dark."
He leaves you sitting at the back of the boat to start the engine. You could have sworn something was happening but didn't think twice of it. You pulled out your journal and began to start a new entry for the unexpectedly thrilling day.
Adam, now seated behind the helm, peered back at you as he started to drive off. He put his sunglasses back on as he shook his head at himself, stupid, he whispered to himself.
--- Day Three ---
The evening of the boat was two days ago. And in the habit of texting, sending voice messages, and calling whenever possible Adam had said his family were insistent on the plans they made beforehand so he couldn't meet you often as he wanted. With unfortunate timing, today was your last full day in Italy, tomorrow morning you will be on a flight back home.
You spent half the day to yourself checking things off your bucket list and trying all the cafes social media influencers suggested. When Adam texted you he was finally available, you told him you wanted to shop at a local market to buy some souvenirs. In less than half an hour he was able to meet you there, props to his running skills.
He found you admiring the gold necklaces at one stand, chatting with the vendor. He admired how bright your face lit up as you laughed, even with blacked-out shades on that made you look so, in the nicest way possible, unapproachable.
He stayed away for a bit to catch his breath. He found himself always running for you, but he would never complain. As he slowed his breath he found a site that he never thought would bother him as much as it did.
He felt his body freeze and go numb as he saw that famous smile of yours show because of a young man. He had dark, almost black hair and was slightly taller than Adam. He saw how he took the necklace you were looking at from your hands and positioned it around your neck. There was a small mirror hanged up and the man guided you to turn towards it to get a better look.
He saw your reflection as you nodded to whatever he was saying. Adam felt his jaw clenching as he saw the man move your hair off your shoulder to help you better.
As the vendor's son was trying to convince you the necklace was perfect for you, your eyes caught Adam in the reflection behind you. You turned to the overly kind man and thanked him but declined his offer for now.
You lightly jogged towards Adam and noticed his stoic expression, "Hey stranger, haven't seen you in a while," It was like he didn't even noticed you ran up to him, his gaze was still stuck on the tall dark haired man.
You placed your shades on your head, "Hello?" you grabbed his left hand to sway it side to side. Your touch is what finally made him acknowledge your presence.
"I don’t see you for two days and you’re already trying to replace me with another Italian?" he sounded so literal but he was joking, kind of.
You noticed how he looked down at you with an ever so slight pout. So you couldn't help to tease him, "Don't kid yourself Fantilli, you're from Nobleton, not Tuscany." you kept fidgeting with his hand,
His jaw dropped just a bit before he pulled his hand away after that comment, "So I'm not Italian enough for you?" he scoffed.
"No I guess not" you say in a sad voice with a pouty lip before grinning,
He crossed his arms across his chest, "I could easily use my Italian skills to get you half the price of whatever jewelry you want."
"Wait you're Italian? You haven't said so at all!?" you replied sarcastically to how many times you've heard the word Italian in a conversation.
He rolled his eyes, making you giggle, as he took two steps to walk away. You stopped him with your hand on his chest to bring him back in front of you,
"I'm just messing with you Adam, I mean your last name speaks for itself does it not?" you smiled up at him hoping you didn't actually hurt his feelings.
"You're a bully." he muttered as he looked at the general view of the market, avoiding your eyes.
"Hmm, I don't think so. But if you say so!" You interlocked your hand with his, "C'mon I really want that necklace and like you said I could use your useful Italian skills." you enunciated the overused word,
"You can get a similar necklace from another vendor." Adam stated as he led the way to another jewelry vendor, "They all sale the same products anyway." he muttered in annoyance at how he couldn't stay mad at you long.
With his help, Adam suggested and was kind enough to buy another a piece of jewelry you were eyeing. And of course he helped you to wear it as soon as you bought it. After more window shopping, you headed to have your final dinner in Italy. It was also the final shared dinner with Adam, but it was fulfilling. As you took advantage of consuming alcohol in a foreign country, conversation flowed with curiosity as you and Adam learned more about each other and life back home. Even if both of your homes were far away from each other.
“I’m gonna miss authentic strawberry gelato,” you licked your lips as you and Adam walked to the outskirts of the nearest beach. You suggested to stargaze on the beach after dinner.
“You have me to thank for that.” He bolstered himself as he wrapped his arm around your shoulder as you finally met sand.
As you walked a bit further to find the perfect spot to lay down, you plopped yourself to the ground, pulling on Adam’s arm with you. As you laid back you saw the twinkling stars spinning, most likely from the wine.
Adam laid down right next to you and admired the same stars, his stars not spinning as much.
“This is nice,” he whispered over the soft waves,
“This is perfect.” you whispered back,
Your left hand hesitantly searched for Adam’s and once you found it, he instantly interlocked his fingers with yours. He fidgeted with one of the rings he bought you a few hours earlier.
After the shared moment with the ocean as ambient noise, Adam sat up, making you copy him.
“Should we take a final swim?” He asked as he looked ahead at the moon reflected water,
“I don’t have a swimsuit under my dress,” you practically replied,
“So?” he said confidently,
“What are you insinuating, Fantilli?” you started to giggle, some fault at the alcohol.
“C’mon,” he stood up and he helped you up to stand. He walked closer to the water and started to take off his shirt.
“Are serious?” you sobered up quick as you fixated on his back muscles, “the water is going to be freezing!” He continued to take off his shorts, “you might want to turn around,” he offered and he stripped completely naked.
You quickly covered your eyes and shrieked at him for his boldness, “Adam what the hell are you doing!?” You heard him laugh and heard the calm water being disturbed before he shouted from the cold.
Assuming it was safe to look, you saw him floating upright in the dark water,
“Is it cold?” You whispered-yelled, afraid of someone seeing you two but it was late at night and the streets were practically empty.
“It’s alright.” He said through chattering teeth.
“Your turn.” He yelled back from the water,
“You’re insane! I’m not stripping naked!” you crossed your arms as the chilly breeze gave you goosebumps.
“Oh c’mon it’s your last night here, you have to do something insane like skinny dipping!”
You stood there contemplating. If you were going to be honest, you really did want to. You were just afraid of someone catching you two.
“You’ll regret if you don’t.” he broke your silence,
“Turn around!” You caught a glimpse of him smiling before turning around and covering his eyes. You did a final scope of the area and swiftly took of your dress and underwear. You slowly stepped into the freezing water, which felt like torture.
“It’s fucking freezing,” you nudged Adam’s shoulder as he finally turned around.
He smiled very mischievously, “What?” you nervously chuckled
“We’re both entirely naked, yet we can’t see each other because it’s so dark out.” His smile turned into a smirk.
You rolled your eyes and splashed him, not too hard because you were still afraid of being too loud. But that was hopeless as Adam splashed you back harder, ensuing part two of the water fight from the first day.
“Adam stop!” you tried to grab his hands from making any more noise. He finally put his hands down stifling his laughter at your nerves.
“We’re definitely gonna get caught with your loud ass,” you flicked water at him for the final time.
“No we’re not.” he whispered back as he flicked water at you for the final time too.
You stared at him wondering how he’s not at all worried as you are. He stared at you finding how adorable your concern was. The more you stared into his eyes and examining his face, you realized he was doing the exact same thing.
“Why are you staring at me?” you scoffed at his gaze,
“You were staring at me first.” he said matter of factly
“No I wasn’t.” you scoffed again.
Besides the water slightly rippling from trying to stay afloat, something change. You were no longer cold, as you felt heat rush to your cheeks. You noticed how shallow your breathing and how it matched to Adam’s.
Adam felt the change too. He felt his heart racing, he could hear his blood pumping through his ears. His eyes wandered over your face and looked down at your lips.
He slightly cocked his head as he leaned forward, almost immediately you reciprocated as you two slowly kissed in the ocean. Before your lips could savor his touch, your mind pulled you away from him.
“Sorry,” he quickly apologized as soon as he felt your lips disconnected from his.
“No it’s okay. I just wasn’t prepared.” you tried to cool your warm cheeks with the saltwater but it didn’t help. “I didn’t think I was going to kiss you tonight.” you admitted.
“Really? Because I’ve been thinking about it non stop since we were on the boat.” He confessed as he tried to cool the back of his neck with the surrounding water, it didn’t work either.
“Yeah- I mean- I thought about that moment on the boat too. I guess I wasn’t sure if you were going to kiss me or not.”
“I wanted too. I really did, I was just second guessing myself, so I didn’t.” he trailed off his sentence as honesty poured out from the both of you.
Both of you floated there in silence which made you giggle. Before Adam could question you, you pulled him closer for another, longer and sensual, kiss. Neither of you pulling away but each others lips melting into one another’s.
You felt his lips smile making you reciprocate but your paranoia was getting to you again as things were escalating in the water. So when you pulled away to see if anyone was nearby, Adam’s forehead bumped into your nose as he followed your lips for another kiss.
“Ow” you said simultaneously. Both of you laughed it off, Adam cutting off your laughter with multiple swift kisses.
You put a hand on his chest to stop him, “Okay lover boy, let’s get out of here before I wrinkle like a raisin.”
You got out first to dress and Adam followed second. As soon as you both got dressed, he pulled you into another kiss on the beach, making smile into the kiss, again.
He walked you back to your hotel, holding hands of course. Both of you, but Adam especially, were acting delirious. A teenage summer romance in Italy, it couldn’t be anymore perfect.
You dreadfully reached the outside of your building, signaling the end of this night and trip. You turned to Adam for the final time that night, “I’m leaving tomorrow.” You whispered as you wrapped your arms around him as you gazed up at him.
“I’m aware.” He snaked his arms around you.
“It just had to be the last hour we have together for you to kiss me.” You placed the blame on him for not speeding up the process.
“Trust me I’ve been beating myself up since our boating day.” He titled his head back in frustration.
Although the moment was bitter sweet you were elated to get to know Adam, spend your trip with him, and to fall for him.
“Adam, it’s late. I should head in, I still have to pack.” you picked at his chain around his neck.
“Right.” he hoarsely whispered. For a second he had forgotten that the sun would rise again and you would leave to go back home.
“Adam?” you softly held the side of his face to make him to look at you,
“Hm?” he softly responded,
“Will you see me out tomorrow morning? A taxi will be picking me up right here. Can we say goodbye then?”
He fondly smiles as he nods into your hand. You move your hand to the back of his neck. Steadying yourself onto your tip toes to pull him into a kiss. You pulled away first, like always. You whispered, “I’ll see you in the morning.” you took one more look at him for the night and walked inside.
Adam’s long walk back to his bed felt short as he relived the night. The smell your perfume on him. The feel your touch on his lips. He didn’t think of the goodbye. He only thought that he would see you again tomorrow.
--- Final Minutes ---
You regretted booking such an early flight. Too early to have a final Italian breakfast. You would have something at the airport, you thought as you heard your stomach growl.
You messaged Adam last night right after you headed inside what time to meet you, wincing at how early the time would be.
Now you were waiting, in the lobby with your bags, for the taxi to pull up. You checked your phone noticing Adam hadn’t texted you since last night’s meeting time confirmation.
You started to feel a knot in your stomach. Even after what happened last night, hell the whole trip: you second guessed Adam’s intentions. What if he slept in? Or worse, he didn’t show up at all? You were hoping neither.
You saw a taxi pull up front the glass windows of the lobby and stood up with shaky knees because Adam still hadn’t arrived.
As you walked outside, looking around to find him running like you always found him, you didn’t see him. You sighed as you confirmed the taxi was indeed for you. You popped the trunk as you struggled to place your luggage inside. You took one more panoramic glance and opened the back seat door.
“Wait!” you heard someone faintly yell and you knew it was him.
You saw him run up the hilly street, the same road you two walked up last night from the beach. You shook your head as he struggled to sprint up the road. As he neared, you told the driver to wait a few a minutes.
You crossed your arms and leaned back on the cars rear, visibly judging Adam’s tardiness.
“I’m so sorry. I kind of slept in, I got home late last night, but that’s no excuse. Sorry. But you’re still here and now I’m here!” He rambled on showing clear remorse, which only made you grin.
“For a second Fantilli, I thought I imagined everything that happened last night.” you softly laughed off your worries now that his presence proved otherwise.
“Everything that happened last night was very real to me.” He stated its importance of the previous late night.
“And now it’s all coming to an end.” You stood up straight, never losing his eye contact.
“Maybe it’s the end of us in Italy, but it could be more back in the states?” he ended his sentence with hope making you smile, yet again.
“If you wanna say something Fantilli, now’s your chance.” you softly chuckled at his still timid self.
“Will I see you again?” He tucked both of his hands into his pockets, nervous for your response.
“Maybe, who knows?” you shrugged your shoulders sarcastically, “Maybe I’ll see you in Ohio.” you smiled fondly at him,
“Or LA.” he replies as he remembers your first ever conversation.
“Or LA.” you repeated softly.
There was a melancholy silence shared between you two that was quickly interrupted with the taxi drivers loud horn, making both of you jump.
As you admired Adam’s laugh and smile for the last time, you pulled him in for a goodbye kiss. He quickly melted into you, his hands finding your hip and face. This kiss lasting the longest, it was Adam who pulled away first, only inches from your face as he rests his forehead against yours.
“I’ll see you whenever and wherever, Fantilli.” you whispered to him. You titled your head back to give him a soft kiss.
“Goodbye Adam.”
“Goodbye y/n.”
Adam stood there body warm and sweaty from his run but also how naturally you made him felt. He stared at your taxi driving off. As he went to turn around he saw your head pop out the window, dramatically sending him an air kiss. He laughs at your behavior, indulging your antics by dramatically catching it.
As he saw your head pop back into the car he felt his phone buzz. A text message from no one other than you, reading:
Save that kiss, it’ll be a while before I can kiss you again.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you were always the perfect model student in middle and high school, everyone was able to predict that you’d be first place for exam marks as well as you always being in principal honours. you were able to carry your skills into university where you try to keep a gpa that’s 4.0. nothing was able to get into your way…until you met seok matthew.
matthew was a very likeable athlete in your university, everyone gushed over his sweet looks and kind personality, there was nothing to hate about him. he kept a good image away from his basketball skills. many girls loved the fact that he was single and took every chance they got to ask him out or compliment him.
you were setting up for the upcoming events happening in your university. there were going to be some high schoolers coming to visit the campus as well as some special performances happening in the gymnasium. you were put in charge of handling those which were already enough on your plate aside from your own course. you didn’t think that anything would occur between that time.
as you were setting up the gymnasium decorations, a basketball slowly rolled towards you, stopping just at your feet. before you could pick it up, you heard someone faintly yelling until the voice got closer.
“that’s mine! sorry i should’ve been more careful.” someone said, as you looked up, you saw a handsome guy with sweat dripping everywhere as if he just ran a marathon. he had muscles which you could tell from his biceps. his hair was a blonde shade and his smile was quite contagious, causing you to smile slightly as well.
“it’s fine. i was just setting up the decorations here.” you looked down at your list, crossing off the things that were already dealt with and completed with your pen. matthew also took a look at it but you quickly pulled it up to your chest, concealing it.
“was i not supposed to see that?” he chuckled, pointing at your clipboard. you slowly nodded, unsure of what to say.
“uh..yeah.” he picked up the ball that was still on the ground. once again giving you that irresistible smile.
“well… i’ll see you around then!” he dribbled the ball back to the court and shot it in perfectly, causing cheers to erupt from the small crowd watching him. mostly girls.
you thought that would be the end of seeing matthew but after that one meeting, it would be endless encounters of you running into each other. it was as if it was happening on purpose, like the world was telling you to converse with him a bit more.
so you did. it happened to be a day like any other where you were studying in the library with headphones on. every other seat beside you was vacant and you had that small space to yourself, something you absolutely loved. peace.
as you were checking at your notes then back at your laptop, you noticed a familiar figure coming towards you.
“hey…” matthew said, joining you with a textbook and laptop in hand. you weren’t expecting matthew to come at all, you kinda forgot that he was also studying and learning here as well.
“mind if i join?” you slowly nodded giving him the green light and he sat across from you. he opened his laptop and took a look at your notes.
“psychology huh?” he said. somehow he figured out your course by just observing your notes, you were astonished.
“how did you know?” matthew grinned then shrugged, “my friend taerae takes that course too.” he was friends with taerae? you sometimes noticed him in the back of lectures but never had a proper conversation with him other than the times where you had a project together.
“that’s cool.” it was obvious that you weren’t strong with holding a conversation, especially with new people. matthew seemed happy though, giving you a positive smile to almost everything you said and did.
you wanted to ask him what he was taking but your shyness took over, though he knew right away that you were curious.
“i’m doing health sciences by the way, it’s pretty interesting but challenging at times.” it was nice having someone who could carry on a conversation. as you two began getting to slowly know each other, you came to realize that matthew was just an amazing guy, he seemed very passionate about pursuing both sports and his studies, he told you about his journey from when he first started playing basketball to now and how it’s helped him. as well, you shared a bit of insight about yourself such as why you decided to pursue your field of study and what inspired you to do so.
best part was that matthew wouldn’t interrupt you once as you spoke and let you be as open as you chose to. it was like you were able to tell him everything that you were scared to tell others. not to mention how handsome he looked when he was focused on something.
afterwards, it fell silent between the two of you as you began studying. matthew was also immersed in his notes, but he would occasionally gaze at you to see what you were doing. he felt his cheeks heat up while seeing your concentrated face.
as the hours passed, more students began leaving campus and the library became more still as now only you and matthew were present there. you didn’t even realize it but you actually fell asleep after studying. matthew was on his phone texting someone and noticed that you lost your battle to sleep.
“they must be cold…” he mumbled to himself as he noticed that you had no jacket on. he decided to take his own off and cover your body with his in order to keep you warm. your head was resting on your textbook with your hands on the table.
he let you rest and didn’t wake you up, only waiting till you decided to yourself.
half an hour had passed when you finally awoke. “what time is it?” you yawned. he showed you his phone lockscreen that had him and eight other people posing together in a selfie. the time read ‘18:00’ , that was enough to jolt you completely awake. the latest you ever stayed was only four or five o’clock.
“oh god i slept didn’t i?” matthew could only smile at your cute reaction.
“hey but at least you got a power nap!” he got up to place his items inside his backpack then swung it over his shoulder. “i’ll see you around!” he waved goodbye and was about to walk out of the library. but suddenly you felt the urge to do something, you didn’t want to go home alone especially when it was already getting dark outside.
“wait!” you yelled, quickly rushing up to matthew. he watched as you catched up to him, “is it ok if i can go with you?”
matthew chuckled but nodded, “of course! grab your stuff and we’ll head out.” he said. with that confirmation, you grabbed your things and walked out of your university’s building towards the train station.
the whole ride he sat close to you and it helped you feel less lonely with his company. your houses weren’t too far apart from each other so you took the same route as him to get home.
but ever since that day in the library, you began falling for matthew. you would occasionally go to the gymnasium and sit on the bleachers just to watch matthew play and get cheered on by his friends. he was mesmerizing in a way that you couldn’t keep your eye off of him.
when one of his games was over, he approached you and asked for your number. it was a lot having a bunch of eyes on you as he asked for it but you gave him it and he ran away happily to change. getting his number allowed you to hear from him more often, he would text you about what he was doing and had casual conversations with you if it wasn’t about studies.
as your friendship grew even closer, he asked to visit your house so you two could study together in each other’s company and you were up for it. this was the first time that he’d be coming to your house since you didn’t live on campus.
while in your room, he took a look around and noticed the poster’s of many celebrities and idols. you showed him all of your favourite groups which allowed him to get to know you better since you barely opened up about your interests outside of studies.
but most of the afternoon consisted of you two both sitting on your bed with your laptops open and studying the material. though studying was boring, having matthew there made it more endurable. when it became silent, he would speak up and converse with you about almost anything. it was like his brain was full of ideas that were endless.
“hey matt…” you said, looking up from your textbook. he immediately turned towards you, “hm?”
“do you enjoy being with me? it’s kinda boring just studying.” you were worried that he wasn't enjoying this and probably wanted to do something else.
“of course i do! if you don’t want to study we can do something else right now.” he shut his laptop.
“like what?” he grabbed his jacket and got up from the bed causing you to do the same.
“a walk, heading to a store, going to the park nearby, there’s tons of stuff to do!” you smiled then shutting your textbook and doing the same as him.
“then let’s go somewhere!”
what followed next after two weeks passed was that exam season finally ended! you were thrilled to be able to go home and relax without worrying much about studying. but that didn’t stop matthew from asking to come over.
you made sure the house looked extremely cleaned with no mess left behind as you began waiting for him to arrive. when the doorbell rang, you rushed to open it to reveal matthew holding a bouquet of flowers while smiling.
needless to say, you were shocked, “matt?” he waved and came inside then taking his shoes off and heading to your couch.
“hey!” he looked around, then handed you the flowers. they were beautiful red roses that looked expensive. you couldn’t wrap your head around the fact that he literally bought some just for you.
“matt…are these for me?” you gave them one more look but even still your eyes couldn’t not focus on them.
“yeah, uh, i actually bought them for a reason since i wanted to tell you something really important.” that sentence caused you to look up at him with a puzzled expression.
“what is it?” he came closer towards you and took the bouquet out of your hands and onto the couch in order to gently grab your hand and intertwined his fingers with yours.
“i like you.” did you hear that correctly?! it took you a good minute to process before you spoke up.
“really? you're joking right?” you asked to make sure. matthew giggled then shook his head, rubbing his thumb on your hand.
“no! why would i? i’ve felt this way towards you for a while but never had the courage to tell you exactly how i feel. i bought you those roses today to show you.”
“they’re beautiful…” you were still in awe.
matthew then gently touched your shoulders, “so give me a chance. i know that we’ve only known each other for a while but i promise i’ll do anything and everything to make you happy.” he said with no hesitation.
the space became silent as you tried to come up with what to say, since this was new for you to be confessed to. however, after being with matthew for the past month and getting to know him, he’s become someone who’s made an impact on you. he helped you become more open and even knows how to make your heart beat whenever you see him. it would be a lie to say that you didn’t want to go further with him.
you took a deep breath as his gaze was still fixated on you, “of course i’ll give you a chance. a million times yes.”
without warning, matthew pulled you into his soft embrace, his arms wrapping around you to keep you in tact.
“god i was so worried to say that. do you know how many times i was practicing this before i came here?” he exclaimed, now feeling relieved that you didn’t reject him.
“well now you have me.” you giggled.
“great cause now i don’t plan on losing you, ever.” his voice muffled into your chest.
“thank you matthew, you make me so happy.”
“of course my love.”

yunho enjoyed his mornings alone. they were quiet, calm, and with the gentle sounds of rain hitting the window, it just tied everything together.
so imagine the shock on his face when he saw you enter.
at first, he thought you were just a random student that was ridiculously early for an 8 a.m. class. but then, he realised that you were way too happy to be a college student.
yunho’s eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at you: two cups of coffee in hand, one iced, one hot, and you also had a lanyard hanging around your neck.
you weren’t a student, you were a staff - and you were heading towards him instead of the rows of empty seats across the room.
“good morning!” you chirped, your voice more joyful than anything he’s ever heard in his years working at the college. “professor jeong, right? i’m your new teaching assistant.”
yunho blinked, your words catching him off guard. “teaching assistant?” he repeated in disbelief.
“mhm,” you replied, still smiling widely. “i’m ‘____’, the dean assigned me to you. i’m here to help you with whatever you need.”
yunho stared at you in confusion. hongjoong didn’t mention anything about this to him - and yunho knew that hongjoong didn’t easily forget things, especially when it involved a seasoned teacher like himself.
“i brought you coffee,” you said, holding out the cups in your hand. “the dean told me what you liked, but i wasn’t sure if you wanted it iced or hot.”
yunho stared at the cups, hesitating. “you don’t need to do that,” he sighed, accepting the hot coffee anyway.
“i know,” you shrugged, taking a sip from the iced drink. “but i want to make a good impression.”
yunho chugged the coffee, ignoring the way it burned his tongue. this was definitely going to change things. he wasn’t used to working with others - and certainly not with someone so… cheery.
this was not how he imagined the semester starting.
he tossed the cup into the bin under his table before picking up his papers. “let’s see how this works out. the students will arrive soon.”
you nodded eagerly, stepping back to give him space but staying close enough to observe him.
you graduated college early, earning your degree in education. you wanted to become a teacher, but before you could lead a classroom of your own, you needed experience - which is how you ended up here, assigned to the famously strict professor jeong.
the students began to walk in, their whispers filling the hall as they glanced in your direction. you offered a polite smile to those you made eye contact with, trying to calm both their nerves and yours. you had heard stories about yunho’s ‘no-nonsense’ approach to teaching, and now, you were about to witness it first hand.
once the room was nearly full, he cleared his throat, grabbing the attention of the students.
“morning,” yunho began, his deep voice echoing through the hall. “before we start today’s lecture, meet miss ‘____’, our new teaching assistant.”
you stepped forward, giving a small wave. “hi everyone,” you greeted, trying to sound confident. “i’m here to assist professor jeong. if any of you have questions or need help, feel free to come to me-“
“-during office hours,” yunho emphasised, interrupting you. “treat her with the same respect you would show me.”
his words made a few students sit up straighter. you couldn’t help but feel impressed with how he managed the class. it was clear that many students respected him, and yunho knew that.
but as the lecture progressed, something.. unusual happened. normally, he would be the only one speaking in the hall. however, an unfamiliar voice spoke up, stopping yunho’s lecture.
“excuse me,” a student hesitantly raised their hand, catching the attention of both you and yunho.
he paused - this has never happened before.
“uh- miss ‘____’, could you clarify what professor jeong meant by that last point…?”
without thinking, you smiled and responded, “he’s referring to the impact that the treaty of versailles had. it actually led to-“
“-that’s enough,” yunho’s voice cutting your explanation short like a knife.
rule number one: only allow questions during office hours.
yunho had rules that he set for himself, one that he followed to a tee. he didn’t like it when people disrespected or judged his rules, he saw that behaviour as was ‘uncivilised’ and ‘caveman-like’. and yet, the student completely ignored this, addressing the question to you instead of their own professor.
you felt your heart beating rapidly as he glared at you, his eyes darkening with irritation. “class,” he continued, turning to his students with a face filled with frustration. “i’m the one teaching. if you have questions, direct them to me during office hours instead of disrupting the lecture.”
the room fell silent in a way you didn’t think was possible. yunho’s stern gaze swept across the room, ensuring that his point was made. when no one dared to challenge him, he returned back to his lecture as if nothing happened.
you tried to fade into the background, mentally kicking yourself for overstepping. you decided to keep your head down for the rest of the lecture, trying to focus on what he was teaching. the last thing you wanted was for yunho to be even more angry at you. so you waited patiently, glancing at the clock every few minutes to see when class would end.
when it finally did, the students quickly gathered their things and dashed out of the room as yunho stayed behind at his desk, organising his notes.
“miss ‘____’,” yunho spoke up. “a word.”
you took in a deep breath before walking over to his desk, your words falling out of your mouth. “professor jeong, i’m so sorry about earlier-”
“-you’re here to assist me, not take over my lecture,” yunho responded, keeping his eyes on the papers. “there’s a reason why i ask students to save questions for office hours. it keeps the class on track and ensures that everyone receives the same information.”
“i understand,” you said quickly. “it won’t happen again.”
yunho sighed, picking up his bag. he didn’t say anything else. he simply walked out of the hall, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
“hongjoong better have a good explanation for this,” he muttered under his breath.

“what do you mean, ‘i need help’?” yunho scoffed, arms crossed as he sat in the dean’s office.
hongjoong leaned back in his chair. “yunho, your classes may have the highest grades, but they also have the highest dropout rate.”
“so? i have standards,” yunho shot back, feeling defensive. “my classes are not for the weak.”
“it’s the first day and four students already requested to drop your class,” hongjoong replied, sighing as he fidgeted with a pen. “you’re a brilliant man, yunho. but sometimes encouragement works better than a plain lecture. maybe your TA can help with that.”
rule number two: always be self-sufficient. never accept help from anyone, for anything.
“i work alone,” yunho retorted, his pride irked by the suggestion. “i have a system that works fine- you said it yourself, my students get good grades.”
hongjoong leaned forward, looming over yunho slightly as his voice became more serious. “this isn’t about you. this is about the students and teaching them. you’re not supposed to drain their love for the course because of your ego.”
hongjoong sighed, sitting back down on his chair. “‘____’ has a degree. she likes teaching and loves history as much as you do. all she needs is experience- which i hope she can get as long as you give her a chance.”
yunho remained silent, his jaw clenched as he processed hongjoong’s words. he wasn’t used to being criticised, especially on his teaching methods. though, deep down, he knew that there was some truths to what hongjoong was saying.
but admitting that was another thing.
“look,” hongjoong continued. “see what she brings to the table. if it doesn’t work out, we’ll assign her to someone else.”
yunho let out a deep breath, his shoulders relaxing slightly. as much as he didn’t want someone invading his space, he knew better than to argue with his boss. “fine,” he said through his teeth.

the next day, you arrived at the lecture hall early. yunho was there, as you expected, and he was seated at his desk with his usual stack of papers.
“good morning, professor jeong,” you greeted him with a smile, placing a cup of hot coffee on his desk.
you noticed that his posture stiffened slightly before relaxing once he saw that you weren’t a student. “morning,” he said, clearing his throat as he drank the cup of coffee you got for him.
you took a seat near him, watching as he continued to shuffle through his papers, completely focused on his work. the sounds of paper crinkling and pen scribbling filled the room as you tried to gather your thoughts.
you knew that yunho was a phenomenal teacher, but when you talked to his students, they didn’t have the same opinion. initially, it shocked you - but after you sat in on his classes, you could see why.
sure, his lectures were informative, but they were also robotic. his classes felt more like a chore than something to look forward to.
both you and hongjoong wanted to change that, to make students more excited to attend his lectures. so, you decided to go for it, bracing yourself for any reaction he might have.
“professor jeong,” you spoke up, making him pause, his pen hovering over the paper.
“i’ve been thinking about ways to make the lectures more.. engaging for students,” you said slowly, trying to read his thoughts.
he scoffed, returning back to what he was doing before. “my lectures are fine.”
“they are,” you shifted closer to him. “but many students aren’t.. motivated to go for them. if we introduced group discussions or case studies.. they might be more interested in the class.”
yunho’s looked at you, his gaze sharp as the room growing quieter as you waited for his response. finally, he set his pen down and crossed his arms. “you think it’s helpful?”
you took a deep breath as you nodded. “it would make students more involved.”
yunho’s glare remained on you, and you could see the cogs turning in his head. he was skeptical, but at least he was listening to your words.
“we can start small,” you added on quickly, sensing his hesitation.
he sighed, running his fingers through his hair. he turned back to his desk, gathering the notes and stationary scattered across the table. “one lecture,” he agreed reluctantly. “but if it doesn’t go well, we drop it immediately. understood?”
in the next class, you could see students warming up to the discussions - with some that were usually asleep becoming more awake to contribute to the conversation. to your relief, they were more engaged, asking questions and even debating amongst themselves.
yunho, however, reacted rather.. weirdly. his eyes darted around the room and his foot began to tap against the floor repeatedly during discussion time. you could tell that he was uncomfortable with the change, even if the students were enjoyed it.
after the lecture ended, the students were still excitedly chatting about the lecture, sharing notes as they walked out. you stayed behind, packing your things when yunho finally spoke.
“the students were more.. lively today,” he said stiffly.
you nodded, trying to gauge his reaction. “yeah, i think the discussion helped them understand the material..”
yunho’s eyes narrowed slightly. “let’s see how long it lasts,” he muttered, clearly not pleased by the outcome.
days passed, and you made it a point to arrive early each morning with a hot cup of coffee for yunho. it became a small routine between the two of you - something that you hoped made him less upset than he already was.
the students were noticeably more attentive during the lectures, and you could see some students taking down notes with more focus.
but after a week, yunho’s reaction was far from what you expected. instead of feeling pleased with the student’s progress, he was irritated by it. he dismissed the class with a sharp tone as he slumped onto his seat, sighing deeply.
you approached him carefully. “professor jeong, are you okay? the students were very attentive..”
yunho didn’t look up, and you could see his jaw clenching tightly. “they were,” he said, voice low. “more than they’ve ever been before.”
you frowned, confused by his strange reaction. “isn’t that a good thing-“
“-it is,” yunho’s eyes locked onto yours with an intensity that made you step back. “but it shouldn’t have taken a change in my methods to get them there.”
for years, yunho’s approach had produced many excellent students. but after a while, his approach was seen as more ‘dictator-ish’ and it made students stray away from his classes as a whole.
your methods made yunho frustrated - it was basically an insult to his entire career. the fact that his teaching methods weren’t enough anymore left a weird feeling in his stomach.
“you’re a good professor,” you said, taking a seat next to him. “and your teaching style has worked for many students..”
you took a deep breath, trying to think of how to continue your sentence. “but education is evolving, and so are the ways students learn.”
he sighed, “i’m not changing.”
“you don’t have to, but your students are,” you said. “they need something different, not because your teaching is bad- but because they’re different.”
yunho’s fingers drummed on the desk in an unorganised beat. when he finally spoke, his voice was quieter, “we’ll continue with your methods.”
“…really?” you exclaimed, unable to hide the excitement and surprise you felt hearing his words.
“i’ll be open to considering some of your other ideas,” he said, packing up the notes on his desk. “but this is their final year. anything drastic is out of the picture.”
you stood up, jumping with joy. “of course, i understand. we can make small adjustments, nothing crazy.”
yunho pushed his chair back, keeping a firm grip on the files in his hands. “if things go wrong, our students grades are at risk.”
you shook your head, smiling uncontrollably, “don’t worry, i wouldn’t dream of that happening.”

“so? who’s the hottie in your class?” wooyoung asked as he popped another chip into his mouth with a wide grin.
yunho looked at his fellow professor in disgust, trying to forget that he even asked the question.
at that point, you had been working with yunho for about a month, making tiny improvements to each lecture. because of how new you were, you didn’t know any other staff member, making your interactions limited to yunho and hongjoong.
so now, yunho found himself trapped in an awkward conversation with his other professors during his lunch break, and it was about you of all people.
“yeah.. i was wondering that too,” mingi said, his voice muffled by the mouthful of food he was chewing. “how’d you get a pretty girl to get you coffee every morning?”
“she’s my TA,” yunho sighed heavily, poking his lunch with a fork. “hongjoong assigned her to me because of my dropout rate.”
“i would say ‘that’s tough’, but i’m actually jealous,” wooyoung chuckled before he took a large chug from his soda. “he’s basically giving you a girlfriend.”
“knock it off, she’s young enough to be a student,” yunho warned, pointing the fork at his two friends.
mingi swallowed a large bite in his mouth, leaning back with a satisfied sigh. “so she’s in her twenties, right? that’s not far from us.”
“exactly, we’re not ancient like you, yunho.” wooyoung added.
yunho rolled his eyes, brushing off the ‘you’re old’ comment from wooyoung. “she’s here to do a job, not date.”
mingi raised an eyebrow. “i thought you were looking for someone?”
“someone that doesn’t work in my workplace,” yunho snapped before finally taking a bite out of his food.
“aren’t you at the very least interested?” wooyoung pressed with a hint of teasing in his voice. yunho shot him an immediate glare, the grip on his fork tightening ever so slightly.
“come on,” wooyoung continued, unbothered by yunho’s reaction. “she’s smart, she’s pretty and she’s friendly. i always see your students always hanging around her.”
yunho paused. “what do you mean, ‘hanging around her’?”
“oh yeahh i saw that,” mingi added with a nod. “they were all approaching her with notes and stuff.. they seem to like her- especially the guy students.”
“they’re just asking questions, even though it isn’t office hours yet,” yunho grumbled out the last part of his sentence.
“maybe,” wooyoung shrugged with a smirk. “but i’ve seen the way they look at her. can’t blame them though- hell, i might shoot my shot.”
yunho set his fork back down on the table, no longer interested in his food. how were you already more likeable than him?
in your one month working here, you already caught the attention of his friends and students alike. the thought of his own students paying more attention to you than his lectures worried him, greatly.
he spent years, many years, building a reputation of a strict but effective professor. and now, it felt like all the control he had was slipping away, one lecture at a time.
“dude- don’t you have a girlfriend?” mingi turned to wooyoung in concern.
“we’re on our tenth break up right now,” wooyoung snorted. “it’s barely a relationship.”
wooyoung reached for another chip. “but this isn’t about me,” he continued as he chewed. “it’s about the fossil over there who needs to get laid.”
yunho shot wooyoung a sharp look. “don’t joke about things like that,” he said. “she’s my TA.. that my students like more for some reason.”
mingi and wooyoung exchanged glances, realising that they may have hit a nerve. “sorry about that, we’re just messing with you..” wooyoung cleared his throat.
“but seriously yunho, you might be overthinking this,” mingi said as he shifted in his chair. “she’s new, and people are curious. it’s natural that they’re more interested in her.”
“interested?” yunho repeated, sounding more frustrated. “i’ve been teaching these kids for months, and suddenly they’re more interested in what she has to say?”
“it makes sense,” wooyoung shrugged as he dug through the potato chip bag for crumbs. “don’t get me wrong, you’re a great professor- but maybe they want something new.”
yunho sighed, twirling the plastic fork in his hand. “i’ve spent years perfecting my lectures, they don’t need anything else.”
“you know how students are- they’re always looking for the next shiny thing. but i’m sure they still respect you,” mingi said, wiping his hands on his pants.
wooyoung nodded, crumpling the empty chip bag. “she’s bringing more attention to your classes- for free. you’re getting more benefits than she is.”
yunho stayed silent. the idea of his students being more intrigued by someone younger and less experienced ate him alive. it wasn’t just about the lectures anymore, it was about his pride.
mingi leaned forward, his face more serious than before. “you’re still the one in charge, yunho. she’s just helping out. and so far, you’re students are doing better right?”
yunho sighed, picking up his fork again. “they are,” he nodded reluctantly. “but i feel like it’s because of her instead of anything i’ve ever done.”
“maybe it’s both,” wooyoung reassured him with a pat on the back. “she’s good at what she does and so are you.“
mingi stood up, picking up the trash that was left on the table. “you guys work well together. just accept it.”

another month went by and the lectures yunho held felt more lively than usual. he simply watched the discussions from the sidelines, not participating in them, feeling uncomfortable yet satisfied with the change.
he wouldn’t consider you as a ‘friend’, but he had to admit that your presence was welcoming - especially with all the coffees that you bought for him.
yunho’s last lecture wrapped up later than usual. he was supposed to carpool with mingi and wooyoung, but they left after their classes ended hours ago, assuming that he had other ways to get home. so now, he stood outside the eerily quiet college building, trying to find an uber.
when he looked around, he saw you, walking briskly towards the motorcycle rack nearby. your helmet dangled freely from your hand and your face was still energised despite it being a long day.
you noticed him standing alone, and you made your way over to him, your face lighting up with a smile. “waiting for someone?” you asked as you fastened your helmet.
yunho pocketed his phone, sighing. “was supposed to carpool with my friends but they left. i’m calling for an uber.”
you nodded slowly, looking around at the building. you tilted your head towards your motorcycle. “i can give you a ride, you know?”
yunho blinked. he eyed the bike that was parked a few metres away from you.
rule number three: never get involved with anyone at your workplace.
“that’s.. not necessary.”
you shrugged. “i’ve got an extra helmet. it’s not a problem, really.”
yunho hesitated - he wasn’t sure he felt about going with you, let alone riding a motorcycle. he’s never done it before, but then again, when would he ever?
“alright,” yunho eventually gave in, nodding. “but only because i don’t feel like waiting for an uber.”
you grinned, walking him to your bike. “you’re going to love it.”
yunho clung awkwardly to the back of the motorcycle, his hands gripping the edge of the seats as you rode through the streets. the cool breeze rushed against his face, a feeling that he’s never experienced before.
he didn’t know how to feel about being this close to you, but there was something about the moment that felt oddly.. right.
while yunho was locked on maintaining a professional distance with you, he also had to acknowledge how patient you were with him.
from week one, you didn’t falter when he scolded you or when he seemed dismissive of your ideas. most people would have been upset, or even offended by his attitude - but you only took his critiques with a smile, eager to learn and eager to help.
he wasn’t used to that.
it didn’t make sense how someone like you could exist. how can you, knowing his personality, make an effort to get him coffee day after day, and willingly sit in on his classes lecture after lecture? he never asked for any of this, but he certainly wouldn’t ask you to stop.
you slowed as you reached a stoplight, glancing over your shoulder briefly. “doing alright back there, professor?”
yunho coughed, startled as your voice pulled him out of his thoughts. “yeah, i’m fine,” he replied, his voice rougher than usual.
“mind if we stop by a gas station? i need to fill up my bike,” you asked.
“go ahead.”
after a few minutes, you pulled into a gas station, parking the bike by the pump.
you hopped off first, smoothly removing your helmet as you shook your hair. yunho remained seated, not fully trusting himself to get off the bike yet.
as you began to fill up the tank, yunho’s mind was running in circles. you had every right to be angry at him, to ignore him, to complain about his behaviour and yet - you still decided to treat him with kindness. why?
“i’m going to grab a drink,” you said as you pointed towards the convenience store. “you want anything?”
yunho shook his head, not wanting to burden you. you finally finished topping up the gas and made your way over to the store, allowing yunho to let out a small sigh. this was all so new to him. not just the motorcycle, but the way you handled everything with grace, including him.
a few minutes later, you returned, holding a small bag of potato chips and a drink. “sorry for the wait,” you said, smiling as you handed him the chips. “here, i got you these- they’re my favourite.”
yunho blinked at the gesture, looking down at the bag of chips you handed him. to his surprise, they were one of his favourites too. he hadn’t had them in a long time and he was way too busy to get them, but seeing them now felt somewhat nostalgic.
“you didn’t have too..” he said softly.
“i wanted to,” you replied with a grin. “i figured you’d be hungry after a long day.”
yunho opened the bag, reaching in and chewed on the chips slowly, savouring the familiar taste. it was something he never realised he missed, and there you were, sipping on your drink, oblivious to the impact your actions had on him.
“thanks,” yunho said as he glanced down at the snack.
“no problem,” you said, wiping your hands on your pants before hopping back onto your bike. “ready to go?”
yunho nodded, and this time, he held on a little less awkwardly. instead of keeping his eyes on the street, he found himself staring at you, unable to look away.
little did he know, that wouldn’t be the last time.
when you pulled up in front of his building, yunho reluctantly let go of the seat, feeling somewhat strange. you pulled back your visor and smiled at him.
“thanks for the ride,” yunho said as he stood next to the bike. “and the snack.”
“no problem at all,” you said with a wink. “see you on monday, professor jeong!” and with that, you sped off into the night, leaving yunho alone, watching you disappear down the street.
as yunho entered his apartment, he couldn’t help but think that things were about to change a lot more than he realised.
and he didn’t mind it as much as he thought.

monday morning arrived sooner than he expected. the lecture hall was filling up with students, their voices and footsteps bouncing of the walls. but something was off.
you’ve never been late.
yunho tapped his pen against the stack of papers in front of him, trying to focus on the lesson plan, but his mind kept wandering back to your lack of presence. where were you?
he didn’t know why it bothered him so much. after all, you were an adult - independent and responsible. you didn’t need to be early every single day, but still, it left a weird feeling in his stomach.
when the lecture hall was nearly full, the door creaked open. yunho looked up, relief washing over him once he saw that you were okay - but then he realised who you were with.
you walked in, laughing, with wooyoung to your side, who was just as amused by whatever you two were talking about. the sight of wooyoung standing so close to you with that cocky grin on his face made yunho’s chest tighten.
you hurried over to yunho’s desk, handing him his usual coffee. “sorry i’m late, professor,” you said, still laughing from your conversation with wooyoung. “i just met professor jung at the coffee shop, we ended up talking longer than we thought.”
wooyoung leaned casually against the wall, raising an eyebrow. “hey, yunho. we were having such a great time that i decided to walk her here.”
yunho forced a smile, accepting the coffee from you. “i see,” he replied, turning to you. “thank you for the coffee.”
you shook your head. “you should be thanking him,” you said as you pointed at wooyoung. “he paid for both of our drinks.”
“that’s..” yunho’s eyes shifted to the other professor, who seemed to be enjoying the interaction a little too much. “that’s very generous, wooyoung.”
wooyoung shrugged. “what can i say, i’m a nice guy,” he winked at you, making yunho fight the urge to roll his eyes.
yunho placed his coffee cup on his desk, shifting his items so that you could organise yours. “you know,” he began, trying to sound casual. “if you like getting coffee in the morning, we can go together. that way, you wouldn’t have to go alone.”
wooyoung’s eyes widened, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. he said nothing, but yunho knew that he was holding in a teasing remark.
you, however, looked pleasantly surprised. “oh- that’s really sweet,” you said with a smile on your face. “i’d like that, i didn’t realise how fun it was to talk to someone in the morning.”
yunho nodded. “yes, and it’d also be more convenient for the both of us.”
“convenient?” wooyoung raised an eyebrow, trying to hold in a laugh. “you’re just full of surprises, professor jeong.”
yunho glared at him, but before he could say anything, he noticed that most of his students were settling down, signalling the start of class.
“i guess i should go,” wooyoung said before leaning closer to yunho, whispering into his ear. “have fun on your coffee date.”
✎ᝰ✐જ⁀➴ ✎ᝰ✐જ⁀➴
mornings now started with you and yunho meeting at the campus cafe before heading to class together. at first, it felt odd - after all, he was technically your boss. but as the days passed, you found yourself looking forward to the moments you shared while waiting for your coffee.
you smiled to yourself as you stood next to yunho, the scent of coffee wafting in the air. you genuinely liked his company - he was always listening to you, focused on what you had to say, no matter how small it was.
“so, have you finished grading last week’s paper?” you asked, glancing at him as you waited for your order.
yunho shook his head. “almost. some of the essays were good, but a few of them were..” he trailed off, letting out a sigh. “not up to standard.”
you laughed softly. “maybe i can help you get through the rest. i’ve been getting better at grading, right?”
he turned to you, a small smile tugging at his lips. “you’ve been doing well,” he said. “but you’re a little generous with marks.”
the barista called out your order, and you instinctively reached for your bag, ready to pay - but yunho beat you to it, handing over his card before you could say anything.
“hey,” you raised an eyebrow. “i was supposed to pay this time.”
“not today,” he replied, tapping his card on the card reader, waiting for it to process.
you crossed your arms as you leaned against the counter. “you don’t have to keep paying every morning.”
“it’s only fair, you used to pay for most of my drinks,” yunho glanced at you, holding out your coffee cup. “and you’re assigned to me. just consider it a part of my duties.”
“mhm, sure,” you muttered as you took a sip from your drink. “but i’m paying next time.”
much to yunho’s embarrassment, wooyoung or mingi would ‘accidentally’ bump into the two of you during some of your coffee runs. they would usually just tag along for the free coffee, but not without making fun of you and yunho’s ‘coffee dates’.
the both of you brushed off their comments, though, you could see yunho’s subtle discomfort whenever they dropped the word ‘date’ - and it didn’t help that wooyoung always had a grin on his face whenever he showed up at the cafe.
one morning, you and yunho were on your usual coffee run when wooyoung strolled in, a big smile on his face.
“it’s my favourite power couple,” he teased as he slid next to you at the counter. “don’t mind if i join.”
yunho sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “you need to stop taking the coffees that i pay for.”
“but i want to hang out with you guys,” wooyoung grinned, ignoring what yunho said. wooyoung then leaned into the professor, whispering loud enough for yunho to hear.
“and i also can’t help but notice that you’ve been glowing nowadays. is it the coffee or the company?”
yunho scoffed, rolling his eyes as he collected the cups of coffee on the counter.
rule number four: never go for someone out of your league.
there was a significant gap between the two of you. not just in age, but in life experience.
you were in your twenties, full of energy and still figuring things out. meanwhile, yunho was well into his thirties, in a career he’d basically dedicated his life to.
you had so much life ahead of you, and yunho couldn’t be the one to hold you back.
he was constantly thinking about this, even though you didn’t seem to care. you never once treated him differently because of his age - you talked to him normally, laughing at his lame, dry jokes and sometimes, you leaned in a little closer than one would when you asked him questions about a paper.
while he knew he shouldn’t let it get to him, every glance and moment between the two of you only reminded him of how easy you were to be around.
was it even professional anymore? yunho was starting to painfully realise of how much he enjoyed your company, in and outside of classes. gosh.. how lonely is he?
“you’ve got really good handwriting,” you spoke, breaking him out of his thoughts. “it’s neat and precise, i bet your students are glad when they see your comments.”
yunho blinked, remembering where he was. you and yunho were in his office, grading mock papers like you had been for the past few weeks. yunho sat at his desk as you occupied the chair in front of him, glancing over the essays.
“really?” yunho cleared his throat. “most students think i’m too harsh.”
you grinned, leaning forward slightly as you picked up another stack of papers. “that’s because they don’t know how much worse it could be,” you said, your eyes briefly meeting his. “you’re more lenient than they think.”
“can’t have them dropping out, can i?” yunho replied with a sigh. “but you seem to be getting the hang of it.”
you shrugged, picking up your pen as you scanned the paper. “i try, but working with you made me realise how much more i need to work on. you’re really good at this.”
yunho’s grip on his pen loosened as he took in your words. he’s heard countless of praises from his friends, coworkers and even his boss - but hearing it from you felt…different.
“thanks..” he muttered, pretending to focus on the next paper.
to be completely honest, yunho was starting to get distracted by you, noticing the random things you did - how you sat, how you tucked your hair behind your ear whenever you read an essay that was poorly done, and how your fingers tapped the edge of the table after you finished marking a paper.
and how could he forget the most important thing - your smile. yunho hated how he liked it, and how such a simple action made his day ten times better.
you soon realised that he was watching you, but you didn’t say anything, trying to stop yourself from smiling. you may not have known it yet, but you were slowly finding the one and only professor jeong attractive - and not just physically.
for most of your life, you were always the one carrying the conversation, always the one asking questions just so that things wouldn’t be awkward. but with yunho? he actually made an effort.
every morning, he’d ask about your day, how the other professors have been treating you and what movies you’ve been watching recently. and when you talked, he listened - really listened.
“how’s your bike? didn’t you pop a tire recently?” yunho asked, flipping through an essay.
you blinked, caught off guard. “oh- you remembered that?”
yunho twirled the pen in his fingers, looking slightly confused. “of course, you were stressed about it.”
“i was,” you chuckled softly, shifting in your seat. “but i’m getting it fixed now. thanks for asking.”
yunho nodded, his attention returning to the paper in front of him. as the evening went on, the two of you continued to mark papers, the office filled with the sounds of writing and the occasional talk about a student’s essay. it wasn’t until you glanced out of the window that you realised how late it got.
“oh shoot- it’s already dark,” you muttered, gathering your things. “i should probably head out.”
“do you need a ride?” yunho asked as he looked at the clock. “your bike is in the shop, right? you shouldn’t be going home alone at this time.”
you hesitated for a moment. your bike had been stuck in the repair shop for longer than you’d like, and you had gotten used to going home by yourself. but the thought of taking the bus home alone this late made yunho’s offer pretty appealing.
“actually- that would be really helpful,” you said, giving him a grateful smile. “thanks.”
the ride home started like any other - with you settling into the plush seats and yunho giving you free reign of the music. he glanced over at you, looking at how you watched the streets pass by.
“how long has your bike been repairing?” yunho asked as he pulled up to a red light.
you sighed heavily, running your fingers through your hair. “for about a week. i don’t know what’s taking them so long.”
“you’ve been taking the bus for a week?” yunho looked at you with wide eyes. “you should have asked me for help..”
“i didn’t want to wait for your office hours,” you smirked, tilting your head. “plus, taking the bus isn’t bad, it’s just less convenient than having my own bike.”
“you know what i meant,” yunho gave you a look before flicking the turn signal. “next time, don’t be shy to ask for help. my door is always open for you.”
you ignored the butterflies in your stomach when you heard the words ‘for you’, choosing to focus on the music playing instead of being delusional.
“good to know..” you mumbled as you started to pick at the fabric of your pants.
as the car drove to the front of your building, you took a deep breath, glad to be home. yunho parked the car, passing you your bag from the back seat.
“good night, professor jeong,” you said with a warm smile as you stepped out of the car. “thanks for driving me back.”
“no problem,” he replied, though, his face looked like he wanted to say more. he paused, giving you a final wave before finally saying, “call me yunho.”

“alright, is everyone here?” hongjoong asked as he looked around the room, clipboard in hand.
it had been almost a year since you’ve joined, and in that time, you’ve become somewhat of a staff favourite, with everyone wanting to include you in everything - from staff hangouts to work dinners.
and now, you’ve been involved in important staff meetings such as the one you were waiting for. yunho entered the room, sitting down next to you as he flipped through his notebook.
“there’s a big event coming up,” hongjoong began once he saw that everyone had settled down. “the annual college fundraiser. as always, your presence is encouraged. this is a great opportunity to bring students and faculty together while supporting a cause.”
there were a few groans from around the room, and you noticed yunho sighing quietly beside you. he leaned over, his voice low so only you could hear, “i don’t see the point of these events. they never change anything.”
you looked at him, raising an eyebrow. “you don’t want to go?”
yunho shook his head. “it’s the same thing every year. students show up and we awkwardly talk as if we don’t want to go home. the only thing it does is take up a saturday.”
“i don’t know..” you said, leaning back into the chair. “i think it sounds fun. it’s a nice break from the lectures we’ve been having.”
yunho gave you a glance, a small smile pulling on his lips. “of course you would say that. you’re always so optimistic.”
“and you’re always so negative,” you chuckled softly. “besides, it’s a good cause, i’m sure some students enjoy it. maybe this year is different.”
yunho scoffed. “i’ve been to plenty of these, they’re all the same.”
you looked around the room, seeing how the other professors and staff were talking about the fundraiser, some more excited than others. “well, i’m definitely going,” you said, crossing your arms.
yunho paused, his eyes meeting yours. he really wanted to skip this year’s fundraiser - he’s been attending way too many times, and with the chance of mingi and wooyoung not attending, he would have no one to talk to. but now that you were going, you were seriously making him reconsider his opinion on participating.
“if you’re really want to go,” yunho muttered, turning away. “i guess i’ll give it another shot.”
hongjoong continued to talk about the fundraiser details, but your attention was now focused on yunho, who had shifted closer to you.
maybe the event wouldn’t be so bad after all.

you rummaged through your closet, trying to find something that was ‘formal’ for the fundraiser, but nothing felt right.
sure, you wanted to look nice for the fundraiser, but you also wanted to feel confident, making you more picky than you usually were. you tossed aside a few dresses that weren’t cutting it, which eventually started to pile up in the corner of your room.
but then, a miracle happened. you pulled out a silk black gown, one that you completely forgot about. the dress was simple, but incredibly flattering - hugging your curves in all the right places. as you slipped into it, you looked at yourself in the mirror, admiring how it showed your figure, the neckline highlighting your collarbone.
this could work. you twirled, the fabric waving and shining under the light. it fit perfect.
you decided to pair it with subtle accessories, not wanting to overwhelm the dress. you put on makeup that brought out your eyes and a perfume that made you smell heavenly. once you were ready, you glanced at the clock, rushing out of the house when you realised that the fundraiser was starting soon.
by the time you arrived at the venue, the room was filled with soft classical music. students, professors and staff were spread across the room, everyone dressed in their best. the hall was beautifully decorated, with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
you stepped inside, your heels clicking softly against the marble floor as you looked around the room for a familiar face.
and then, you spotted yunho.
he was standing alone near a pillar, looking ridiculously handsome as he wore a black tuxedo that fit him like a glove. his hair was neatly styled, and his usual glasses that sat on his face tied the whole outfit together. for a moment, you couldn’t help but stare. he looked good, really good.
yunho put his phone away, glancing around. when his eyes finally landed on you, his breath got caught in his throat. the dress you wore was stunning, accentuating your figure in a way that made his heart skip a beat.
you looked drop-dead gorgeous, and yunho found himself at a loss of words. he always knew that you were beautiful, but seeing you in that dress made it impossible for him to focus on anything else.
when you approached him, yunho cleared his throat, feeling a little dazed. “you..” he coughed out, his eyes studying you, taking in every detail. “you look incredible.”
you chuckled, feeling your cheeks turning pink as you heard his compliment. “thank you,” you replied, feeling a flutter in your chest as your eyes traced the sharp lines of his tux. “you look handsome yourself.”
the fundraiser carried on. small groups of people talked and laughed by the elegant tables that were draped with white linen. student volunteers went between tables, offering food and drinks to guests.
as the night grew, you mingled with other professors and students, talking about event and other things that happened around campus - with yunho sticking to you the entire time.
of course, he wasn’t in the mood for small talk, so he remained silent for most of the night, but not without sneaking many glances at you.
eventually, the event came to an end. guests started to leave, the sounds of music playing turned into sounds of people gathering their things and heading out.
yunho exhaled deeply, checking his watch. “finally, it’s over,” he said, clearly ready to go home. “we should get moving.”
you shook your head, looking around at the volunteers that were beginning to clean up. “actually, i was thinking of staying to help clean up a bit. they could use an extra hand.”
yunho paused, then frowned slightly. “really..?”
“mhm, it’ll only take a while,” you replied. “you don’t have to stay though. i know you’re tired.”
yunho hesitated, his eyes softening as he looked at you. he let out a short sigh then shrugged. “no, i’ll stay.”
your eyes widened in surprise as you shook your head. “don’t push yourself.. you shouldn’t do something you don’t want to do. you can go home, i won’t be mad.”
“i want to help,” yunho reassured you, picking up a few plates. “and you said that it’ll only take a while. it wouldn’t hurt to help out.”
you blinked a couple of times before moving to help him. “thanks..” you said softly.
together, you helped the volunteers stack chairs and clear tables. it didn’t take long, and soon enough, the large hall was nearly empty, with a few guests and staff left behind.
as you carried the last of the chairs to the side of the room, you noticed a small, secluded garden area just beyond the glass doors of the hall. the moonlight shined gently on the flowers and vines that framed a cozy bench.
you nudged yunho, tilting your head towards the doors. “want to check it out before we leave?”
yunho looked through the doors, just as interested as you. “sure,” he nodded.
the two of you stepped outside, the cool evening air wrapping you as you strolled around the garden. you sat down on the bench, yunho joining you a second later, and the two of you took in the smell of flowers.
it was quiet out here - the gentle sounds of leaves rustling and distant cars driving made it feel like the world slowed down for the two of you.
for a while, neither of you spoke. yunho leaned back, resting his arm along the back of the bench.
“thanks for staying,” you said softly as you turned to look at him. “i know that these events aren’t your thing.”
“it’s wasn’t so bad,” yunho gave a small smile, his eyes never leaving yours. “it got better with you.”
a wide smile spread across your face, a feeling of warmth creeping up from your neck.
yunho’s hand, slowly moved closer to you, his fingers grazing the back of your shoulder. he hesitated for a moment, his eyes shifting to your lips as he debated the thoughts in his head.
“are you okay, professor?” you asked, tilting your head.
rule number five: if you ever encounter a dilemma, run away; never face it.
yunho nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat. “…i’m alright.”
you turned your body to face him completely. “are you sure?”
yunho took a deep breath, unable to look away from you. “i don’t know if i should tell you,” he said quietly.
“…if it’s bothering you so much, i think you should tell me.”
“i..” yunho ran a hand through his hair. he started to fidget with the sleeves of his tux, trying his best to arrange his words.
“..i like you, a lot. for a while now, actually,” he paused, his gaze moving to the ground. “but i didn’t want to tell you because.. you deserve someone better- someone younger.”
your heart clenched as you heard his words. you placed your hand on his. “you don’t really think that, do you..?”
“why wouldn’t i?” yunho asked, his voice rougher than usual. “i’m a lot older than you, ‘____’. you shouldn’t settle for me- you deserve to live out your twenties and date whoever you want.”
you blinked, leaning closer to him. “but what if i want you?” you asked. “i don’t care about things like that.”
his eyes widened, clearly taken aback by your words. “are.. are you serious?” he stuttered in surprise, the scent of your perfume taking over his senses.
“of course,” you nodded firmly, leaning in a little closer. “i’m very serious,” you reached up and grabbed his tie, gently pulling him towards you. “i want you, and you shouldn’t think otherwise.”
yunho’s eyes stayed on your lips as you closed the distance, the space between the two of you disappearing until your lips met in a soft, tender kiss.
it was careful at first, with the both of you testing the waters. but when he felt your lips respond to his - something snapped.
yunho’s hand slid to the back of your neck with his other hand finding its way to your waist, pulling you closer to him. his grip on you tightened, his lips becoming rougher as if he had been holding himself back for far too long.
your fingers tangled in his tie, loosening it as the kiss becoming more and more desperate. the world around you began to disappear as you lost yourselves in each other.
“yunho-“ you whimpered as he cupped the side of your face.
yunho’s breath hitched as the sound of his name fell from your lips. his thumb brushed against your cheek, and you felt his body pressing closer, the kiss turning into something hungrier and urgent.
“tell me to stop,” he whispered against your lips, his voice filled with desire but you could hear something else - concern for your comfort.
but stopping was the last thing you wanted.
you shook your head, your hand sliding up his chest, feeling his heartbeat beneath your palm. “i don’t want you to,” you muttered back.
and that was all yunho needed.
in a swift motion, his lips crashed into yours. his hands roamed your body, one slipping down your back as the other remained on your jaw, guiding your head as his lips devoured yours.
your fingers gripped onto his tie tighter as his lips left yours, leaving small kisses down your neck, his warm breath against your skin.
the world around you continued to fade, nothing existing except for the two of you. your heart pounded in your chest, your head dizzy with how quickly things escalated.
you gasped softly, his name leaving your lips again in a whisper as he pressed kisses near your ear, sending chills down your spine.
slowly, he pulled away, his thumb brushing against your cheek. “sorry, i got a little carried away,” yunho admitted quietly, afraid to break the silence that was surrounding you.
you smiled softly, your heart racing. “don’t apologise,” you chucked as you fixed his collar. “i liked it.”
yunho leaned forward, brushing your hair away from your face as he pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. his touch was warm and safe, something that you really needed after all of that.
yunho sat back down, his hand resting against yours. you looked up at him, smirking. “so does this mean you’re stuck with me now?”
yunho chuckled, squeezing your hand gently. “i think you’re stuck with me,” he said before pausing for a moment, his eyes turning more genuine. “but seriously.. i need you to be sure. about me- about this.”
without hesitation, you nodded. “i’m sure, yunho. i don’t want anything else.”
he sighed softly, relief written on his face. “alright,” he smiled, getting up as he reached his hand out. “now let’s get you home before i break any more of my own rules.”

April 22, 2024
8:02 pm. Listening to gwagwalada by Bnxn, Kizz Daniel and Seyi Vibez. Nope, it is now 8:34 pm and I am listening to Prince, the most beautiful girl in the world. I am at Munene’s house and we ended up chatting for a little bit. I played him a little Simz song, read him a poem and showed him a bit of the Gøod manifesto. I went to take a look at it since I have not touched it since February. Hehehe. I still have about 40 pages to wrap it up. Which is honestly, not much compared to the 149 I have already completed. The Gøod Blog launches in two days, so I will have to do the uploads tomorrow or tonight. I will figure it out. Also Creative PEI did not/could not play their part in marketing the podcast so I don’t even know if they will be able to do what we had agreed for the Blog. No shade, I just honestly like doing everything myself because there is less human error. There has been zero marketing for the Gøod podcast and we had a whole social media plan laid out. Anyway, it is what it is. I honestly feel like in Cloud Atlas, this projxct will live on forever and others even after me will come across it and be like whoa. It might become a religion, a way of life, a think tank when I am not on Earth anymore. So what’s human error to a God? What's human error to the Universe? Haaaahhh??? Anyway, I have work to do to finish this and then feel at peace. It will be done. Ase. I’ve been on chill vibes since last week. My whole life right now is chill vibes. I’ve been at Munene’s a lot. I went to Karen for the family Sunday dinner and mom cooked up a storm, it was decadent. LoustaLoustaman and Leighton came over to Munene’s on Sato and they had a lovely day swimming and eating. LoustaLoustaman is really living his best boyo life in Kenya. Otherwise, it has been Munene’s. We went to two rivers and got some groceries. I have been cooking a lot more. We also had a cute little date night in the neighborhood. I was feeling depressed over things I cannot change right now. It is a series of small steps that will undo all the hate that exists. I also took the time to recognize that I have done a lot of work and I deserve rest. I have been at activism, at decolonizing, at undoing, at unlearning, at relearning, at rebuilding since 2016 and heavily since 2019. I deserve rest. I need rest. The revolution takes all of us. We show up at different points in different ways. I was struggling with this feeling like there was nothing I could do, there was nothing I was doing. Until I realized that is the point. I have the privilege of being home, with Gøod savings, with family, enjoying sunshiny days and rainy nights all while falling in Love with the Love of my life. What a wonderful, beautiful place to be. So instead of being depressed that I am not in the front lines changing the world, I realized I am happy I am on the back end taking a nap. Life won’t always be this way. I will be back to the revolution. The most radical thing I can do right now is enjoy this time to rest. To recalibrate. To know this new iteration of myself. And only God knows how I will show up again. Only God knows what tools within I will access. Only God knows what relationships this time will create. So I am feeling a sense of Peace coming over me. That I am doing exactly as I should. I will cook, enjoy my country, enjoy Love, spend time with family, eat yummy food, travel around, sleep in, sleep late and feel all the feelings. I deserve that. I deserve time to just BE.
Life is Gøod. God is Gøod. I am Gøod. Rest is Gøod. It is time to Be. Ase. Ase. Ase.
