Greetings from a damp and drizzling Bar-sur-Aube, where the temperature is currently 6c.
This week I have been in full Christmas mode, I bought cards for my grandchildren as well as a Disney colour and sticker book for each of them, yes they have to be posted but I am sure they will enjoy working on them. Anyone who knows me well, knows that Christmas is not my favourite time of year but since moving to France I have taken an interest in baking Christmas cake and making my own mincemeat (above photo) for mince pies. I have made stuffed dates, peppermint creams, ginger biscuits and crunchies (biscuits my mum used to make) plus chutneys and even golden syrup! I have given (some) of these to friends for Christmas (which I think they have liked). I have also made my Christmas and New Years Day “special” by making myself a lovely meal which has about 4 or 5 courses and which I eat over 2-3 hours.
Anie came to see me on Sunday and brought some dried sunflower heads, she put them into the garden and all I had to do was wait for the birds to come to feast on them. I wasn’t disappointed there were mesange charbonniere (photo below) as well as what I call “spuggies” not all of which are sparrows.
As the cleaner had tested positive for Covid, I was left to my own devices all week. I dealt with my usual chores and on Friday I messaged her to see if she was feeling better, yes, she had tested negative so she will be coming on Monday 😊.
Pauline is back in town 😊, she has returned from Dublin and won’t be going back. She brought with her some lurgy so won’t be coming to visit until she is completely well. Having not seen Monique for over two weeks , she told me she had bronchitis. It is self diagnosed and she has been treating it with thyme 🤔 yes the herb, I think a visit to the doctor may have been a good idea (my thoughts only). I mentioned that I had made some English delicacies (didn’t quite know how to describe making mincemeat). She said oh can you send me the recipes…… well heck no! Translating ingredients and method not my idea of whiling away a good few hours of my time, maybe try google! Maud may come to visit this afternoon but as it looks as if the rain is set in for the day she may put it off. I wouldn’t be too bothered either way as beef is in the NEW slow cooker (oh no, just realised I haven’t used a liner for the pot, what a numpty) and it will be ready anytime I am ready.
It was the meeting of the knitting group on Friday and I had intended to call in, however, with Claudine telling me that one lady had been hospitalised with viral meningitis (I was going to take some fabric for her) I put it out of my head. I was just composing a message to Claudine when she messaged me, the lady was back from hospital and at the group. I almost threw my coat on and drove up then changed my mind. I will go for a short time on the 24th (I hope) if I am not too fatigued.
I have been buying new clothes, following the weight loss (almost 18kg), and have been fortunate to pick up some bargains along the way. Well the bargains have now extended beyond clothes and onto …… plants! Yes the local supermarket were selling a large chrysanthemum plant half price (I picked the one that looked the “freshest”) they also had a cyclamen with flowers that were so droopy I prayed that some water would revive it. Anyway, brought them home, stood them outside, gave them water and just left them. We had sunshine that day, plus it poured with rain during the night, what a difference that made to the cyclamen, the flowers were upright with more buds waiting to open the following morning. Not so the poinsettia that I had stored in a dark place through the summer. I really do not think that it will grow again, what a shame it was beautiful last year.
“The Daddy” and I are still working in tandem doing the Tesco order for my elderly relative who lives in London. I rang her yesterday and she had her list all ready. I will be inputting that as soon as possible.
Speaking of “The Daddy” he will called in to look after his daughter on Monday as it was a teacher training day at her school. They had a good time, then he went to collect his son from nursery, where he was told that his son had been “trouble” that day. My grandson told me he had pushed someone and poked another person in the eye, now not sure if these were “accidents” but when he related them to me he had an impish grin on his face 😉. The children are with Daddy this weekend and had a visit to York yesterday, to get new clothes. It’s not easy being a single parent coping with two children in busy streets but he does it. Mind you he said they had worn him out yesterday.
“The Trainee Solicitor” has (finally) prepared his course application for Uni, he had left it for his boss to sign and would then email it to the University. I am pleased he has got that sorted. He was left in charge for three days this week. He has dealt with a lot of work and it was noted and appreciated. Mind you it has left him very tired but he has still had time to read his books (a good form of relaxation).
“The Ex-Graduate” has also been trying to catch up on rest following her gruelling 40 odd hour working week the week before. Fortunately she had Thursday and Friday at home. She caught up with the housework, did the school run for her young sister on Friday and she too managed relaxation time with her book. They are busy deciding on a theme for Xmas decorations. I do believe it is just going to be small gifts this year as they are both busy saving. I know a nice holiday next year would be appreciated by both but there are other things that take precedence.
Having still not heard anything from the hospital about starting my next treatment, I rang again. The lady explained that I would receive a call after 13 November. I hope they give me more than one days notice!
Now to this weeks songs, for the first one we go right back to 1967 (wow I was still at junior school, the one that faces onto the Terry’s Chocolate Factory (ok so the chocolate factory is gone and the building is flats now but I can live in the past sometimes can’t I). It’s “The Letter” by the Box Tops. I have to say for the past 56 years I always believed that this group were black, what a surprise to ses a video and guess what they are all white!
The next song is “Night Games”, realised in 1981, by Skegness born Graham Bonnet. Bonnet was one of the duo “The Marbles” who had a hit with “Only One Woman” in 1968 the B side of which is “By the Light of the Burning Candle” another great song written by the Gibb brothers. Bonnet also was vocalist for Rainbow on songs such as “All Night Long” and “Since You Been Gone”.
Now it’s time to (perhaps) have a walk, prepare for a friends visit, do some knitting or none of the above 😂.
Have a good week until next week.

A Disney exibiu no Natal, em uma série chamada The Clauses, crianças segurando cartazes dizendo “We Love You Satan - Nós Amamos Você Satanás.

https://brendan-noble.com/chernobog-and-belobog-the-slavic-gods-who-werent/
Now, I am fully aware some people will be upset with me already. Chernobog, particularly, is very popular in pop culture due to his appearances in books such as American Gods (and the tv show) by Neil Gaiman, Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, and Marvel Comics as well as video games such as Kingdom Hearts, Smite, and (my personal favorite) Crusader King II.
[...]
The two were considered to be the supreme opposites: one good and one evil. In a simple sense, Chernobog was called the “black god” and Belobog the “white god,” and each rode a horse corresponding to their color. Belobog would fight Chernobog and stop his dark ways from destroying the world. Little more is known about them besides their brief mention by German scholar Helmold in his 12th-century book, Chronica Slavorum.
Helmold refers to Chernobog as “Diabol” (translation: devil) or “Zcerneboch” but never truly mentions Belobog’s name (just that there’s a good god to oppose the “black one”), which is merely assumed now.
https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Chernabog#:~:text=The%20words%20in%20his%20name,are%20locked%20in%20eternal%20conflict.
Chernabog is a demon featured in the " Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria" segment of 1940 animated feature film, Fantasia. He is based on the God of the Night in Slavic mythology. At Walpurgis Night (the Witches' Sabbath), he emerges from the peak of Bald Mountain to summon all of his minions, who dance furiously in tribute before being thrown into the mountain's fiery pit
[...]
The words in his name, "cherna" and "bog", mean "black" and "god", respectively, in Slavic languages. In Slavic mythology, Chernabog (named Chernobog) is a black god of darkness who contrasts with Belobog, the white god of light and the two are locked in eternal conflict.

At our California AMORC Convention at Disneyland in 2010, our Most Venerable Grand Master Julie Scott addressed the frequent mention that Walt Disney was a member of AMORC. She told us that all you have to do is listen to the lyrics of the song from Walt Disney’s Pinochcio, “When you wish upon a Star,” and you will know he was a member:
Reunião Rosa Cruz sobre as obras da Disney
Walt Disney: The Gnostic Masonic Rosicrucian
https://www.gnosticwarrior.com/walt-disney.html
Not many people are aware that the founder of Disneyland Disney was a member of the secret occult group dedicated to Gnosis and Alchemy known as the “Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, AKA the Rosicrucians (AMORC).” He was said to have completed all the teachings of the order.
With this secret knowledge, Walt Disney created one of the most popular theme parks and film studios in all the world. A business that was primarily based on the magic he learned from the teachings of the occult. Many of these occult myths and dramas are played out in Disney films such as the Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Sword in the Stone, and even the modern masterpieces such as Brave, Frozen and Maleficent.
A magical formula he used to captivate and influence people from all around the world that is still used to this very day.
Like the Rosicrucians, the Freemasons are the secret keepers of Gnosticism and Alchemy. The Masons would primarily be the branch dedicated to materiality, in which the order attracts those Brethren who seek to network and move to the top ranks of society, while the Rosicrucians attract the more spiritualistic type people whose main goals are advancing their spirituality.
Both working hat in hand to further the goals of the secret elect of the elite who decide the fate of mankind.
[...]
Let it also be said that Walt Disney was the descendant of English royalty. He comes from the Norman bloodline of William the Conqueror. This royal connection must have played a part in his rise to the top of American business.
The facts are that over the course of the history of the United States, most of the top businessmen and politicians were secret Gnostics, Freemasons, Rosicrucians and Magi. Initiates into the secret brotherhood that governs the world by magic, working closely with big business, government, and religion.
These are the four pillars that govern our modern society. You simply will not reach the pinnacle heights of business and society if you are not a member of the highest degrees in these secret societies. In fact, the founder of the USA branch and the first Imperator of the Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis (AMORC), from 1915 until 1939, Harvey Spencer Lewis was known as a “special friend of Big Business.”

The Disney Magic Kingdom is the representation of the magic realm of the Fairy Queen and the fairies in the afterlife. The Fairy Queen was the goddess known in various cultures by a variety of names: Holda, Brigid, Freya, Venus (the evening star), Ishtar, Isis, and Mary. The fair maiden princesses in the Disney movies were modeled after this goddess.

Walt Disney as an Elite Occultist
https://www.thelastamericanvagabond.com/walt-disney-elite-occultist/
As an adult, Walt joined the “Ancient Mystical Order of Rosae Crucis” (AMORC) which is the largest known organization of Rosicrucianism, and also boasts the membership of people like Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry–among so many other noteworthy names. For those unaware, Rosicrucianism is a surviving occult school of thought that primarily studies the Ancient Mystery teachings promoted by Egypt (dating much earlier than the Egyptians, however) through the lens of more traditional Western symbolism.
[...]
While this may paint a certain measure of nobility around Walt Disney, there is a great deal of evidence to show that he was a deeply troubled individual that suffered a degree of gender-identity confusion which resulted in ambiguous attractions that caused troubles in his marriage. There are also reports of Walt Disney cross-dressing, which raises the question of whether he and J Edgar Hoover ever had any fully “dressed” classified meetings.
[...]
In regards to this esoteric symbolism, anyone readily attempting to dispute Disney’s occult symbolism is either in denial, or hasn’t actually seen any Disney cartoons: from Bambi, Dumbo, and Pinocchio, to more overt occult references like Sword in the Stone, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, even Fantasia–the list goes on and on. Witches, wizards, genies, alchemy and magical spells galore, Disney was not coy at all when using his inspiration from the ancient Mystery teachings. This not only survives to this day, but has become even more blatant with the purchasing of both LucasFilms and Marvel Comics, and now Disney is creating science-fiction wars with extra-dimensional entities and uniting ancient Norse gods with the Military Surveillance State and weapons-contractor bilbillionaire.
[...]
Considering Walt Disney, there are two more crucial points worth addressing: his documented relationship to J. Edgar Hoover and Joseph McCarthy’s Communist “Witch hunt” of the Cold War era, and an assessment of his role in the Mainstream Media’s Globalist agenda, streamlined during the propaganda of the two World Wars, continuing with full force today. Due to the Freedom of Information Act, formerly-classified FBI documents reveal Walt’s deep-seated relationship with J. Edgar Hoover and his bureau, even dating back to the original construction of the Disney World theme park.
[...]
he was known to have a strong distaste for Jews, which Walt interestingly said had been harbored because Jews had monopolized a stranglehold on the media, and because of this, he had a known affinity for the Nazi regime; Project Paperclip being something that Walt truly reveled in. Werner Von Braun went on to have a prominent role in both NASA and Disney’s Tomorrowland Public Relations, and a great deal of his word went into a Tomorrowland TV documentary (aired in the 1960’s) that explained the probability of being able to colonize Mars in the near future.
The Disney Occult Deception
https://truthinreality.com/2019/06/25/the-disney-occult-deception/
For example, in the true story, Pocahontas converted to Christianity, yet in the Disney movie, she visited a temple to consult with demonic pagan ‘nature’ gods and goddesses.
Fantasia is full of demonic imagery and mythological characters. In this cartoon, the third that Disney made, and in its sequel, even good beings are depicted as creatures connected with mythology – which is, in fact, demonology – such as satyrs, aka centaurs or fauns, a half-human half-goat creature which is actually a representation of the ‘god’ Pan, who is actually the devil. As usual, there is no mention whatsoever of God the Creator.
[...]
Although Walt Disney was not an official member of the Bohemian Club, he is known to have visited the club as a guest in 1936 and he said that what he experienced there inspired the dwarves’ snoring scene in the 1937 animation Snow White. It is however well documented with dozens of photographs in the public domain, that Walt Disney was a member of a similar and related but smaller club for the elite, also located in California and also with an exclusive white male membership (of only 700), “Rancheros Visitadores”.
At Walt Disney World there is a ‘secret’ exclusive club called Club 33, the only place at Disneyland where alcohol can be bought.
[...]
There is at least one tragic death in almost every Disney film and according to a study published in “The Social Science Journal” there were 561 incidents of child abuse and mistreatment in Disney movies released between 1937 and 2006, with 62% of the main child characters being subjected to abuse on one or more occasions during the film.
Often in Disney stories, one or both parents are dead and children are left to their own devices, while in others the parents are somehow inadequate or an object of ridicule. The list is extensive.
[...]
According to an investigation by CNN, dozens of Disney employees in Florida were arrested for alleged child sex offences in the period between 2006 and 2014. The crimes involved offences such as trying to meet a minor for sex and possession of child pornography and were all committed by men who worked there including security guards, tour guides, cashiers, maintenance workers and costumed characters.
Disney promulgates the idea that there is good witchcraft and bad witchcraft, but all witchcraft is evil.
[...]
In Disney’s Pinocchio, a coachman pays a fox to capture ‘stupid little boys’. The fox is afraid of being caught but the coachman insists there is no risk. He says; “They never come back as boys”. The children are trafficked to “Pleasure Island”, thereby hinting at sexual pleasure. At Pleasure Island, there are no rules, echoing the satanic mindset: “Do what thou wilt…”.

Meet the cast of The Right Stuff on Disney Plus: Actors and the real Mercury Seven comparison
Revisit the space race in this new series from Disney and National Geographic.
The story of the Mercury Seven is about to be retold for a new generation on Disney Plus, with an all-new cast in tow to play the aspiring astronauts.
Set in the 1950s, The Right Stuff depicts the desperate attempt by the US to beat Russia into space, starting as NASA selects seven elite candidates from the armed forces to be considered as potential astronauts.
Disney Plus has assembled a large ensemble cast for this latest adaptation, led by Suits star Patrick J Adams as media savvy marine John Glenn, and Jake McDorman as his rival Alan Shepard.
Who will be the first to make it into space? You’ll have to tune in to find out, but in the meantime, get to know the cast of The Right Stuff with our guide to the key players.
Jake McDorman plays Alan Shepard
Who is Alan Shepard? Shepard is an accomplished test pilot who is selected to be part of the Mercury Seven programme. He’s a charming ladies man but dislikes people prying into his personal life, nor does he know how to handle himself with the media. His main rival is John Glenn, with the two of them depicted as frontrunners for the coveted astronaut job.
What else has Jake McDorman been in? McDorman is probably best known for his lead role in Limitless, the short-lived television series based on the Bradley Cooper film of the same name. He also played Mike Pratt in the long-running US remake of Shameless, Jeff in vampire comedy What We Do in The Shadows, and Captain Metropolis in HBO’s Watchmen series.

Colin O’Donoghue plays Gordon Cooper
Who is Gordon Cooper? Cooper is a test pilot in the United States Air Force and the youngest of the recruits to the Mercury Seven. He’s skilled at his work but has a troubled home life which could wreck his chances at being selected.

Who is Scott Carpenter? Carpenter is another test pilot with a naval background selected to be a member of The Mercury Seven.

Who played Deke Slayton in The Right Stuff (1983)? Scott Paulin played the Air Force veteran in the 1983 film, who also had roles in Teen Wolf and Turner & Hooch.
Michael Trotter plays Gus Grissom

Mario Thread Opinions
I saw something making rounds on Twitter featuring Mario characters, so, I wanted to respond to that, but without flooding the timeline.
So, I’ll put them here instead! ...And I’ll try to keep thoughts short...
... ... ...
Original Tweeted Characters
Mario: He’s such a cheerful and happy protagonist! I don’t get why people ever have strong dislikes for him. He’s full of energy and normally kindness. Maybe they think that’s bland, but I’ve been following Mario’s journeys since I was very young, so he’ll always be a great protagonist for me.
Toadette: She’s so energetic and sweet! She’s come such a long way since her debut from Mario Kart: Double Dash, and currently, Toadette seems to be a regular mainstay for the franchise. You’re doing amazing, sweetie! Keep going!
Dry Bones: One of the cutest zombies and/or reanimated dead characters that I can think of. While a tricky enemy to handle, I still enjoy seeing them. Plus, they’re welcome additions to spin-off games like almost always!
Shy Guy: The beeeeest! Shy Guy is the cutest little enemy, and I love how they get included into various roles as either friend or foe. I think I’m always happy to see Shy Guy around in some way!
Pink Gold Peach: Peach deserves a cool power-up form! While I wish she had it outside of spin-off titles, I think it’s a cute concept regardless. (Though, I get the disappointment when she shows up.) People mention “rose gold” as a title instead, and I think I agree with that, but also, alliteration.
Peachette: (deep, heavy sigh) You could have been so fun conceptually...the potential for future uses that could be dramatic with bait-and-switches for Peach. But...marred by Internet memes...also, not a fan that Toadette gets replaced on-screen by Peach in the first place, so, yeah.
King Boo: This dude has so many change-ups in how he appears. I kind of love him as both a Mario enemy and a Luigi’s Mansion main boss. He makes a good adversary for Luigi, so, I hope he sticks around to spook the cast! Love his laugh too, lol.
Daisy: She deserves so much love and attention, and I don’t understand why the developers at Nintendo have kept her locked behind spin-off titles for so long. I feel like that could change going forward, so I’m hoping that she becomes even more awesome and help save the day in future adventures!
Peach: Arguably the most iconic damsel in modern media, though I wish we could let her evolve past that. Peach is strong in her own right, so let’s see her headline a franchise and save the day herself! She doesn’t get opportunity to do that enough. She can be more than just Mario’s plot device. Anyway, she’s great, and I wish she would get more respect from Nintendo. She could make the Disney princesses shudder if given the chance.
Yoshi: Quite possibly the cutest steed known to pop culture! He’s so sweet and precious, like, I feel as though no one can help but love Yoshi. Anytime he pops in and the moment immediately improves!
Luigi: As a younger sibling myself, I totally can relate to Luigi easily. He’s the best deuteragonist that Mario could ask for! His fans can sometimes be a little much, but I can understand the enthusiasm! Luigi’s a good boy. Nintendo should dunk on him less though; he’s proven well enough.
Hammer Bro: Bah, an enemy that always keeps me wary! Probably one of the biggest common enemies that is practically guaranteed to be at least a light challenge. As they appear in more spin-off games, I like their energy and excitement more. They’re fun dudes!
The Koopalings: No clue how they were kept dormant for so many years, because they provide so much flavor to the series! Then again, it’s painful to see any of them separated from one another, and including seven characters can be a challenge. Overall, I love them, and they make great opponents and even additions to rosters! Best generals, I think.
Kamek: I know that the name isn’t supposed to be significant, but he ended up being so. And I really wish we would get a version of Kamek that stands out from the other Magikoopa! His role seems too important to be neglected as often as it can be. Definitely the coolest standalone enemy on Bowser’s minion roster, and I hope they keep helping this one stand out more in the future!
Waluigi: He’s pretty funny, and he can sucker a few laughs out of me time and again. I think that he’s underrated by the Mario franchise itself, and that he should appear more often or join Wario for his franchise. His loudest fans are definitely a bit too rambunctious. Still, he’s been around for 20 years, and I do agree that he probably deserves better.
Rosalina: Definitely a cool character that I really hope we keep in rotation. She should be used for more than just spin-off shenanigans without question, so I hope that we see her more as time goes on. (She almost joined Odyssey in a cool appearance!) Anyway, I love her motherly and calm yet elegant nature, and the lore that she gave to Super Mario Galaxy as well. Luma princess!
Bowser: As Mario is one of my favorite protagonists, Bowser would be one of my favorite antagonists! Though, I do wish he’d get a break. He’s a fun character without always being evil. We should give other villains a chance to go crazy and let Bowser do something else, either helping Mario or just living life without being the big bad. He’s sometimes more interesting being just a dad above all else!
Piranha Plant: Plant gang rise up! Not going to lie, one of the most iconic Mario enemies to appear, and yet, I feel like they’ve been slept on until their recent inclusions in games as playable characters, most especially in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Great surprise trap enemies too. Overall, love these chompy dudes! ...Except when they chomp me, that is, ha!
Metal Mario: Probably one of Mario’s coolest power-up forms! He’s appeared in several spin-offs as a playable character, starting with Mario Golf for the N64, if I’m not mistaken. While I prefer him as a power-up, he’s a fun concept to see turn up every so often.
Whomp King: An iconic opponent in Super Mario 64, and one that I’m surprised to see turn up every so often! Yet, I’m also surprised that we don’t see him more often as well. It’s odd, but then again, Whomps can be underutilized. I like him though!
Wario: Greedy guy supreme! Wario is perhaps the grossest Mario character, but also one of the funniest. He’s usually a welcome addition to the rosters that he joins, so, I like to see him around too. His laugh is hilarious and definitely one of the more recognizable out there!
Dry Bowser: Bowser’s reanimated corpse! Originally a cool concept and perhaps even a surprising one! Since I like Dry Bones, I tend to like this dude, even when he’s not exactly Bowser himself sometimes, since that happens. Either way, cool and creepy, so totally a unique flavor!
Pom Pom: Honestly, not an addition that I ever expected, but totally welcomed alongside Boom Boom’s return to the franchise. I love her shuriken attacks and ninja theme, because I’m a sucker for that. And more female creature features are always welcome to roster! Not every lady needs to be a princess, after all.
King Bob-omb: I love him! He’s arguably my favorite boss from Super Mario 64, and I’m so happy that he’s been popping up more frequently. He’s finally playable for the first time in Mario Kart: Tour, so I hope he appears as such in future titles! His mustache deserves greatness!
Toad: I have literally always had a huge soft-spot for the Mushroom Kingdom citizens. Also, I feel like Toad should be recognized as an individual as much as Yoshi is! He’s cheerful, helpful, sweet, and usually so helpful! Plus, I totally crush it when I use him in Mario Kart, lol. One of my favorites as well, and I consider him as part of the core cast!
Bob-omb: Who knew living explosives could be so...cute? I can’t deny that I delight in seeing them, even though they usually terrorize me whenever they’re around. Totally love to see them included, as they’re great inclusions.
Boo: Spooky time! I love seeing Boo, they’re fun. Also, horrifying to face off against, since they’re not usually the easiest to defeat. They’re cute though, and I love to listen to their cackles and trills! Also wonderful inclusions, both in the main Super Mario games and hilariously so in Luigi’s Mansion. (I love their titles and names in those games!)
Bowser Jr.: While his existence should raise questions, mostly concerning how, I tend to hand wave that as easily as Nintendo does. I love that Bowser has a bratty kid, it’s so entertaining to me! And it’s precious, because I really enjoy seeing Bowser having a soft spot for his son. Junior himself is enjoyable to see too, because he’s a pint-sized enemy with lots of personality!
Pauline: That’s my girl! That’s my girl right there, whoo! I’m so deliriously happy that she’s returned in the greatest form, from nameless damsel to major city mayor! And now she’s regularly included for Mario franchise casts by the fans and the developers. She deserves it, and I hope we continue to see Pauline appear all the time in the future! Get it, One-Up Girl!
Baby Daisy: A cute baby bean, and a logical companion for Baby Peach! Not usually a character that I favor, but I don’t mind her. The scariest kiddo on the racetrack, that I’ve learned.
Petey Piranha: It makes sense that the Piranha Plants have a boss leader, since Bowser is that for the Koopas, and then we have such for Bob-ombs, Whomps, Boos, and the others. Anyway, the sludge stuff is gross, but I do love to see Petey! He’s actually sort of cute with his little utters of “yay!” in spin-offs. Plus, he’s usually a fun flavor of boss to battle!
Lakitu: Honestly, I forget that these dudes are supposed to be bad guys; they’re usually so friendly and helpful! And I think I prefer them that way overall. But, they do make challenging opponents when they’re not helpers, so that is fun to see from time to time. Totally a great mainstay to the roster either way!
Baby Rosalina: Like, I do get the idea of her, but at the same time, she’s more or less a walking contradiction, more than Bowser Jr. or the other babies by far. She is cute though, and I guess we’re not meant to think about it.
Koopa Troopa: Basically Bowser’s equivalent to Toad, and I don’t think that’s a comparison that’s addressed often enough. Like, they’d be great to make Bowser’s forces more sympathetic. Anyway, I like them as enemies, though I tend to see them as helpers fairly often too, since that’s how they’ve appeared over the years. Totally a great mainstay!
Boomerang Bro: As if their hammer throwing cousins weren’t bad enough, we get these dudes to battle from time to time. They’re tricky but cool variations on classic opponents. And I think I enjoy seeing them when we have big cast herds for the spin-off Mario titles.
Bullet Bill: Fear. These guys just come flying out of cannons and my instinct just shifts into fight-or-flight. I love them appearing, but I’m always wary of the challenges they normally present. Also, similar to Bob-omb with the whole, “who knew living artillery could be cute?” Because I know it’s Mario, but geez.
Baby Luigi: The baby bro! He’s a fun alternate option for Baby Mario to rescue, and cute to see included from time to time in spin-off titles. Though, I think his best appearance was Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.
Banzai Bill: The developers went, “Hey, know what’s scary than a big bullet chasing you down? How about a MEGA DEATH BULLET that destroys everything in its wake? Let’s even give it a creepy slasher-grinning face!” And nobody really questioned that. Utterly horrifying to battle (or just run from), but cool conceptually, so I like the enemy inclusion.
Buzzy Beetle: They’re such lowkey baddies that I actually love. Like, there’s even a sinister hint to them with the glowing red eyes and everything! Totally underrated as opponents, and I enjoy their appearances whenever they’re around.
Baby Mario: The leader of the bunch, and you know him...wait a minute. Anyway, he’s a fun character concept, and I like the idea of exploring characters at different points of their lives! It’s cute to see Mario was thrown into heroics since basically birth, and Baby Mario’s usually entertaining to see around, even though we should really question the lacking moral/ethic decisions of letting babies drive go-karts and playing sports.
Goomba: The number one low-level grunt of all-time! At least, I think so. They’re such fun enemies to see included almost all of the time. It’s fun how they’re normally super easy to fight, but can be surprising challenges in various appearances too. Simple conceptually, yet really diverse in use! Overall, one of the best baddies out there!
Thwomp: Floating death trap extraordinaire! These dudes are utterly terrifying to be anywhere near, most especially under. I tend to remember them for the blocky blue forms used during the N64 era, but I think that’s the less iconic form. Still, they’re great trap enemies for sure, with a great slamming grunt to boot!
Captain Toad: While I’m not entirely sure if he’s meant to be separate from the Toad we know, I treat him that way. Plus, it’s fun to have a light-hearted version of Wario’s treasure hunter role used, and one that actually provides aid to Mario on his adventures! Plus, a hero in his own right. A great character indeed!
Wiggler: Instead of chanting “don’t be suspicious,” it’s “don’t wake the wormy” for me. This crazy caterpillar is full of anxiety inducing moments for sure, but on the cuter side too. Also, shout-out to the Flutter form! Anyway, they make a fun enemy, and it’s fun when they go from passive to aggressive!
Cheep Chomp: I really can’t deny that I’m surprised that this was included for an opinion list. Anyway, bigger and scarier fish enemies are always a good fright to include, so, why not? I like the purple version too.
Baby Peach: The original baby princess, which is weird to mention, given that I never expected more than one to appear or matter. Anyway, she’s a cute companion for Baby Mario and has her own baby princess posse, so...yeah.
Boom Boom: These dudes were always such cool enemies in Super Mario Bros. 3, so I’m really glad they came back into newer games! I love seeing them appear more in spin-offs lately too, they’re entertaining options to shuffle in with the cast now and again. Fun to face off against too; normally easy, but can be tougher too!
Cheep Cheep: Fishy! It’s weird how they can be so cute, and yet they’re so dangerous, since one bite cuts you down to size. But yeah, I like them as basic aquatic enemies!
Blooper: These troublesome dudes...they can chase you, tentacle smack you, and ink you in the face! That last one never used to be a problem in kart racing, but they totally improved over the years. Good enemy. But, also? A really, really cute spin-off character! I kind of love seeing them appear in other titles as playable characters. Especially in Mario Tennis Aces. Their voices are so cute!
Whomp: Really weird to see them included so far from their king. But anyway! Cool enemies, totally underrated compared to their Thwomp cousins, and I like to see them turn up now and again. They make fun guards, most commonly utilized in the Mario Party series. They’re fun enemies and deserve more love!
Additional Characters That I Like Too
Birdo: The disrespect at people never including my girl...shameful! Anyway, I love Birdo a lot. She’s pretty cute and should totally be included way more often than she is. And she pairs so nicely with Yoshi, that’s so perfect! Plus, she’s probably the earliest trans character that I was ever introduced to, and/or consciously aware of. Anyway, I love her, so there.
Toadsworth: Why does he get so neglected over the years? I thought he was a great inclusion for Peach’s staff, and yet, he’s diminishing so frequently over the years for some reason. Anyway, he was a very entertaining character, made a great equivalent to Kamek, and I wish he’d be used more frequently.
Donkey Kong: Not going to lie, I tend to not include him in Mario cast calls a lot too, since he just feels comparatively detached to other characters. That’s so weird for someone that basically helped kick off Nintendo’s main franchise. Anyway, I love him a lot, even if I don’t show it much. He’s a cool kong, and doesn’t need to be the king to prove it!
Chain Chomp: The bark and chain rattle of sheer terror. I love these guys though! They’re so cute! And dangerous. But cute! Whether being used as a baby’s weapon of mass destruction in racing, or as another avid tennis player, Chain Chomps are just delightful to have around.
Wart: Yeah, not really expected to be included. But, I like Wart from Super Mario Bros. 2, and he’s basically my new character to campaign for since Pauline made it back from the yester-years already. Wart has great potential to be an alternative to Bowser, or even just a fun character to include, so, I hope that we see him come back to the Mario franchise in the future some day!
Nabbit: This pesky thief actually stands out well enough to me, probably because he’s included as a playable pick in the New Super Mario Bros. games from time to time. Anyway, an oddball of sorts, but pretty cute to see pop up from time to time! Maybe he’ll be kept in rotation for future spin-offs...we’ll see!
Monty Mole: Perhaps a more forgettable enemy, but I think they’re entertaining and rather unique ground enemies! Also, I enjoy their Rocky Wrench cousins. But yeah, I felt these dudes deserved a special mention too!
Diddy Kong: Although I typically don’t consider Diddy a Mario character, he’s appeared so often enough that he should be. I like him as Donkey Kong’s go-to partner, and he’s fairly cute too!
Tatanga: Look, if Wart doesn’t work out, then I’m rallying behind Super Mario Land’s Tatanga. Plus, if we get more Daisy, we might as well get an enemy to go along with, or rather against, her. Who better than this little dude? ...Though, I kind of like the bulky version from the comics more. Then again, it’s less expected for a tiny guy to be a main bad guy, so, he’d work either way. Another fun alternate for Bowser, so he can have a break, and Mario gets more enemies!
Fire Bro: I saw the Boomerang Bro and was kind of expecting this dude to show up too. Normally easier to handle than their weapon tossing cousins, at least for me, but they’re challenging enough too. Another fun variation inclusion for big roster herds.
Spike: You know, I recall the Paper Mario version known as Clubba best. But anyway, I like these dudes, and I’m enjoying seeing them appear more often in newer spin-off titles. They’re cute! And they provide strong diversity for Bowser’s usual forces.
Luma: How did we not see these little fellows in the main set? They’re so adorable, I love seeing them all the time now! Definitely one of the coolest races to come from the Mario games, totally fitting for the franchise, and I love seeing them appear basically whenever they do. They’re so cute!
Rex: The retro Super Mario World enemy that’s rather squishy and most commonly forgotten. I think they work nicely as an evil equivalent to Yoshi, at least in appearance. It’s honestly strange that they’re so underrated and underutilized by the franchise; they’re pretty cool!
Ninji: Little ninja-like minions from Super Mario Bros. 2 that appear sparingly across the Mario series. Another enemy that I feel is super underrated and totally has potential for inclusion in spin-off games or just as a more frequent opponent like Rexes should be.
Koopa Paratroopa: Kind of included with Koopa Troopa above, but I like to see Paratroopa distinguished, since they normally tend to be, even among flying enemies. Plus, they’re common inclusions to the Mario spin-off titles, so it’s weird to pass over them. Anyway, I like these winged menaces too!
Professor E. Gadd: Speaking of underused characters and E. Gadd should totally pop up there. I like that he’s a Luigi’s Mansion mainstay, but I miss the days where he was slowly branching out in other titles, perhaps most notably in the Mario & Luigi series, but he’s also the reason that Mario had FLUDD in Super Mario Sunshine! I wonder why he’s not included more frequently; even if not playable, he makes sense just being used in some capacity.
Spiny: Lakitu’s little monsters that rain terror from the skies and onto the ground! Perhaps one of tougher baddies to battle with, but I like to see them, since they’re pretty iconic. Even without being Lakitu’s minions, they’re still plenty tough for Mario to battle against. Plus, they’re kind of cute? We should see a blue variation some day though, so that way we all know who to hammer on for all of those Mario Kart horror stories...
Cappy: Since this is being posted on the 3rd anniversary for Super Mario Odyssey, I’ll give him an additional inclusion. After all, Cappy is probably one of Mario’s best companions for a 3-D Mario title to ever be included, easily surpassing FLUDD and Baby Luma / Co-Star Luma. I hope he’s not left to be forgotten as the years go by, because he had plenty of personality and flavor that really made the adventure even more entertaining, and a great concept to engage with the game play, so, here’s to Cappy!
... ... ...
Phew. Anyway, these are just some thoughts on Mario franchise characters! There sure are a lot of them, huh? Probably too many to count if we really dig through the series, that’s for sure!
That’s all from me though, at least for this. Thank you for reading!

After your binge-watching session, which would say is better: Kim Possible or Danny Phantom, and why?
Someone actually interested in my opinion for once?
Well it depends, both have their pros and cons in regards to episode plots/arcs, characters and chara development, character designs etc. So I’ll suppose I’ll break them down into different categories. Under a cut as to not make scrolling a hassle.
Also I apologize in advance for my page theme, I know it’s kinda shitty and hard to read sometimes but I’m too busy to change it right now.
Designs/Art: I know Stephen Silver was the main designer for both shows (and his designs for a lot of the teenage girls has a uh, Obvious Pattern.) Ignoring my bias towards Vlad and Drakken, I think a lot of the ghosts have fun designs, but KP gets points for actually letting characters (esp Kim and Ron) wear other clothes in S2 and beyond, and between Phantom, S1 Kim and S4 Kim I think S4 Kim has the best “action” outfit. BUT the art style for DP is pretty stiff at times and KP style has a lot more range for animation, body types and faces. Overall though, I say they’re pretty tied imo. Both have a lot of ups and downs that truly comes down to a personal pref, even though the Fartman’s style is the more iconic one. I think KP wins animation/art and DP wins for designs.
Characters: Again, the villains shine here more than the protags. KP as such a wide range of villains that I have have to give them the point for creativity and FUN in antagonists, (Duff Killigan is prob my favorite in absurdity followed by Monkey Fist, the Seniors and DNAmy all tied for second. I really like Motor Ed too, seriously.) but that’s not to say that DP doesn’t have them either. Vlad’s true motivations are really...unique compared to other DP villains and even KP ones, (seriously? How many bad guys you know who’s goal in life is “fuck the MC’s mom and also make MC your son”) who like KP are just “take over the world and/or cause tons of destruction” but with only half the fun. Sadly Dark Danny’s entire thing hinges on him being Danny But Evil who only wants...destruction??? Whereas Evil Ron actually does something interesting with the character, showing Ron’s true potential (see Evil Ron vs Electronique in “Stop Team Go” for example) and being in-character for him still. (Faux Take Over The World plot to cover his true goal of owning all the world’s Nacos? Of fucking course Ron would. Brilliant.) Evil Ron still has hints of Ron’s personality (”Boo-yahaHAHAHA!”) whereas Dark Danny is just... evil for evil’s sake, which can be good when actually done right, but in this case isn’t because the only thing that resembles Danny is his outfit. Shego’s backstory is great. DP’s new S3 enemies are very boring despite interesting powers. KP S4’s Camille Leon is great but Warmonga is just eh. Moving on to protags, KP’s protags are far, far more interesting than DP’s. Which brings us to the next point. (Also Mr. Barkin > Mr. Lancer, and Kim’s parents > Danny’s parents.) KP gets this one.
Chara Development: Gonna say it, DP almost has none, and straight up regresses in very end of S2 and most of S3. I swear the only real characters who have any are Vlad (for better or for worse, the latter imo), Jazz (when they remember her, and is good) and Valerie (whose is good too). Tucker gets 3 (three!!) fking episodes about him and they ALL carry the same theme of him not being able to responsibly handle having any kind of power, which is why him becoming the town mayor at the end is so BAD. There’s NO WAY Tucker of all people would make a good mayor. VALERIE got more episodes than him, JAZZ got more episodes than him, both with development that STUCK while he’s a MAIN CHARACTER. Sam never changes, def for worse. Sam is a Base-Breaking Character for a dang reason. She’s extremely pushy, acts like she’s lowkey better than everyone else, and never seems to consider how her actions affect other people, and the like 1 or 2 times she does it doesn’t fucking stick like she’s Hank Hill or something. Danny has no real development for his character. All that develops for him are his powers and nothing else. On the other hand, KP characters DO have development and it shows! Not just for the protags but for villains too! Kim is bossy and a lil controlling early on and stops during S2, whereas Ron was extremely cowardly and gets, not exactly braver but just less phased by it all, plus early he never quite liked going on missions but later on gets sad if he has to miss them, before he doesn’t like being distractions but later on very much takes pride in being one, and etc. Drakken and Shego get development too, esp their relationship with each other AND with Ron and Kim. Bonnie actually got an episode of development (but sadly regressed in time for the finale) whereas Pauline just...never changes whatsoever. Bonnie actually makes for a good rival and mean girl for Kim for the entire show whereas Paulina and her relationship with Danny and Sam are just....bland and doesn’t go anywhere. There’s nothing for Dash, though Ron doesn’t really have an equivalent. So, KP gets this one.
Episodes/Plots/Arcs: DP wins in the Lore department by far, KP wins in character arcs. A Sitch In Time answers the great questions of What Would Happen if the Villains Teamed Up AND Shego is a Better Villain than Drakken so Why isn’t She in Charge? ft Time Travel. The Ultimate Enemy answers What If Danny Went Evil and Is Vlad Completely Irredeemable? ft Time Travel. KP definitely does the “balancing Hero duties with School life” better than DP. You can definitely see her struggles with it whereas DP is just kinda there. I also very much like that Kim is girly but is never shamed for it both in-universe and out, whereas DP is known for the shitty “I’m not like other girls” fake feminist bullshit. A problem I have with DP is that time pretty much never changes, as if the show takes place within a year, and it seriously hampers the growth of the show could have. Time is also just out of whack, they take their big end-of-the-year test then it’s Christmas THEN it’s Summer Vacation but even in S3 they’re all still in the first year of high school like ??? What?? Whereas KP starts in Freshman year and ends with Senior Graduation. The arcs of Danny/Sam vs Kim/Ron are just...D/S was definitely teased a ton more but by S3 you just get tired of it, not to mention the hypocrisy regarding the character relationships. Personal opinion warning, but Danny/Valerie had a lot more development in such a short time and was super interesting. Kim/Ron didn’t have as many teasing esp in S1 and S2 (it’s there though) but it def picks up in S3 and I love how their new relationship was handled in S4. Back to episodes, my favorite episodes for both are Reign Storm and So The Drama, but while I might be biased toward Reign Storm I’m gonna have to ultimately give better episodes overall to KP. So The Drama has Drakken going back to his Actually Dangerous roots from early on and becoming the closest to anyone to actually winning on his own merit (Shego stole the Tempus Simia from Drakken/Duff/MF and relied on weird time shit of Kim being “lost in the time stream” ((actual canon explanation)) to travel to the future specifically to stop her, to actually win) and is SO good when Dr. D finally gets defeated, plus (personal bias here) Kim and Ron’s teased hook-up finally happens. I will say though, I’m not a fan of S4′s Hana Stoppable/The Han story. As both shows are action-oriented, they definitely have their fair share of good fights but I think KP also has better action and fight scenes. Humor is extremely subjective but I think KP made me laugh more. Finally, DP is infamous for S3 just being bad whereas KP just got better and better with each season, though I’d put S4 below S3 and above S2. So: Lore = DP. Arcs, Action and Eps = KP.
Fandom: Ignoring the super gross shipping aspects of some parts of the fandom (If ur a P*mpousP*p or K*go shipper pls go away from my stuff i’m fucking serious), I think DP wins for this one. Many great OCs, (I really haven’t seen any for KP aside from next gen?) the already interesting lore is def expanded so much by fans, I legitimately don’t care for “Wes Weston” but my god did the fandom do some serious work for this boy. I don’t know too much about KP since the fandom seems kinda dead aside from some shipping stuff and a very slight revival from the movie, whereas DP ended before KP and is still very very active. DP wins fandom.
(Bonus) Reboots/Redesigns: I’m gonna be honest, I’m not sure what could be done better for KP aside from the mess of Disney’s out-of-order airings, a more serious reboot wouldn’t work for the show at all, but DP could definitely use a reboot and fixes the disaster of S3. And reboots & character redesigns are def a hot topic for the DP fandom. So DP gets this one, though I’m not sure if this is a good thing.
Final: So over all, 4 for KP and 4 for DP, or if you add the little groups, 7 for KP and 4 for DP. Overall, I’ll say KP is the better show, but DP shines with the fandom. I also have a personal bias in favor of DP but it makes them even out for me. If you want interesting lore and good fandom content, go for DP. If you want fun and interesting characters, actual character development and more action and drama, KP is the way to go.
But instead of picking one, just watch both!

I feel like my life is falling apart even though it isn't (I hate my job though, which makes me feel like dying sometimes). In a few months I move to a new town in a new apartment with my best friend and starting school and I have a guy that treats me great and accepts I have mental health problems. Even though things seem like they're going up for me, I still feel like everything is turning to shit, I don't know why and it makes me not wanna try. I don't know how to get out of this rut.
Hey lovely,
I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve been struggling with these feelings! I can imagine that it must be super frustrating to feel so low when actually things seem to be going pretty well. Unfortunately, mental health doesn’t always look at how well things are going. Sometimes those two are completely unrelated. You can have a lot of things going for you, but you’ll still feel horrible. I find that these moments are harder to deal with than when you’re feeling horrible but you can identify a reason why. It can feel very out of control when you feel bad for seemingly no reason (except your mental health is the reason so it’s perfectly valid!).
That’s why it can help to try and get back in control. Try to do some activities that you usually enjoy, surround yourself with people you love and who support you, things like that! But I sometimes also find it helpful to have some ‘controlled sadness’. That way I’ll feel in control of feeling sad, rather than being overwhelmed by the sad feeling that seems to appear out of nowhere. I’ll watch a movie with sad moments in it for example. If you’re worried about the sadness getting out of control you could opt for a Disney movie. They have some really sad moments in them, but there’s always a happy ending :) Plus they’re amazing!
I do think it could be good to look into how unhappy your job is making you. Because even though it’s just one factor of a lot of different factors, it can still have a huge impact. I get it’s often not possible to just quit, but would it be possible to start looking for another one so that when you’ve found one you can change your job? Perhaps something closer to the town you’re moving to? That would definitely be a good reason to change jobs so you can always say that if you don’t feel comfortable bringing up the real reason.
At moments like this, it’s so important to keep trying. I’m currently in treatment for my eating disorder and a phrase that the therapists have said multiple times is ‘it’s good if it’s hard because it means you’re going against your eating disorder’. The reason we got to this is because we often feel like our weeks haven’t gone well because we felt bad and disordered thoughts were strong. But that doesn’t really say anything about how well we’ve done! I think it’s the same with other mental health issues. If something is hard, it means you’re breaking through old patterns and are trying something new. It’s new, scary, uncomfortable. It feels so hard, maybe wrong even. But if you continue to push through that, it will start to feel less scary, more comfortable and then you’re making such a huge step!!
I’d also recommend you to speak to a professional, such as a therapist or counsellor, if you aren’t already. They can help you get your mental health issues back under control so that you won’t continue to feel the way you do. You can visit your GP / local doctor and explain to them briefly what’s been going on. They can then arrange a referral for you. You can read more about getting help here. You don’t have to deal with this all by yourself!
Sometimes what seems impossible, is just hard.Love Pauline

Hey, peeps! I'm back from life for a quick moment to show some doodles I've been working on this month! So far, at the time of uploading this, 3 out of 5 (60%) of these are actually finished and saved onto my SD card. However, since I don't have my computer with me, it'll be a while before these are finally uploaded.
Plus, I plan on posting these in late October, so you'll just have to wait until these reappear.
On the top left is a picture of Mikey, the tall girl, and Chloe, the short girl, wearing wedding dresses and dancing like they're Disney princesses.
The top right contains Leo, the boy dressed as some sort of prince, with a "mysterious" green face on the bottom.
The center image is fanart of a YouTube mini anime series called "Mari Mari Cutie". The two girls in the picture are Mari, the one with neko ears, and Eli, the girl with the ponytail. This image is supposed to be a parody of protestors carrying signs, hence is why they're both carrying signs. I highly advise watching the anime to understand the "joke" of this image.
On the bottom left is a drawing of Chloe, dressed as Mario, rescuing Mikey, dressed as Princess Peach, from some sort of prison.
And finally, the bottom right is an image of Chloe, dressed as Mario again, with Cappy and Stanielle, the tall girl with curly hair, dressed as Pauline.
As you may have noticed, there's a theme with some of these drawings: my OCs from my series "Closet Life" dressed as Mario characters. The answer as to why will be a secret until next month.

Summer 2019 Part II
The summer post-interview and pre-acceptance was spent in three countries, and in a constant state of sweat.
I went to the fair with my oldest friend Michaela and her parents. Her dad kept asking me why I would wanna study medicine in Vilnius, her mum kept offering me drinks and Michaela and me kept riding the Kraken. My stomach told me off afterwards and reminded me that I got too old – because after riding the Kraken twice, I was so nauseous. But this is tradition. The fair, the Michaela and the Kraken.
After a couple days in Goslar and buying new summer dresses, I travelled to Sacramento for the first time. This was the time where Chris had decided to grow out his beard (terrible decision, if you ask me). So, most of our Sacramento pictures are me in my wonderful, newly bought dresses and him in a questionable long beard. I am clearly the more fashionable in this relationship haha.
Sacramento is a wonderful city, very green, very hipster, very capital.
Unfortunately, it is also very American in the sense that walking around is hardly do-able. What it is with America and highways in the middle of the city. (They are probably not highways, and it is probably also not the middle of the city – but still. How am I supposed to discover a city if you cannot walk around?) Sometimes thinking back on this (it has also already annoyed me in OK) I wonder how Chris sticks around – the European girlfriend makes him park so much out his way just so she can walk around at 35°C, along pavements in little shade to get to the capitol building. By the way – did you know that a capitol building gets to have a golden roof if it produced a president? Inside the capitol there were different windows, showing what the different counties of California are famous for. I loved seeing that from Hollywood to farming, to wood production. I also tried to learn about the politics (we were in the capitol after all and once again I was reminded at the fact that Chris is very unpolitical. I quizzed him on his current senators. And he did not know. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
In case I told you (and you remember) I had signed up for my first half marathon while writing my bachelor thesis (and roped Jon into it). So, on a random evening, we drove to Davis to attempt a 13.2 mile run. And even though it was an evening run (I think it started around 6PM) it was so HOT. But we made it and I succeeded. Succeeded in running faster than Jon (goal #1) and succeeded in finishing (goal #2).
Downton Sacramento is so cute – they refurbished it to look like the old settler town, so you are constantly looking over your shoulder to not get shot by rogue cowboys or in a standoff between sheriff and thieves. It made me wanna see more of these Western Towns.
The highlight of my trip, however was and is still our trip to San Francisco. I managed to get Chris to see his first Musical: Hamilton! And it was great. Even though I must have spent so much money – first I bought the tickets on some weird reseller website (and paid 150$ each) and then I wanted to treat Chris to a beer and some M&S and paid another 40$. But the music, the vibe, the stage. I love theatre. And that play is just awesome. If you get a chance and have not seen it yet – go! The Disney+ version does not even come close.
The highlight of my life however also seemed to happen on that trip: I got an email from Adam. Who is Adam, I hear you asking? Adam, my lovelies is the guy telling me that I freaking got accepted to Kassel! I remember it being the early morning, Chris more or less gently snoring next to me, when I saw the email on my home screen of my phone. I opened it. Read it. Opened it again and then tried to call my parents. I forgot about the time difference however, so no one answered my call. I tried to wake up Chris. He woke up, squinted at me, mumbled something along the lines of congratulations and turned back around. Those were my celebrations.
(He did wake up a tiny bit later, gave me a kiss and was very happy for me. Plus this was very much reminiscing of the time when I got accepted to Vilnius)
After 12 days my time came to a close (for now) as I had to jet set to another country – me and my parents where planning on hiking through the Tatra for a week. My sister did not come with us for some reason that probably was very plausible when she told me, but I do not remember what it was. But it did mean one on one time with my parents. I am not complaining. The week in the Tatra was great, lots of wonderful hikes, nice hotels, good food. The Tatra was very green, difficult to hike up (one hike was literally 70° up, I was almost worried for mum and dad climbing up) but the closer we were to the polish site, the busier it got. The people hiking up the hills confused us a lot, few people looked prepared, most wore sandals, and all ages were present (babies, grandmas and people who looked like they never hiked before.
28th August Chris came to visit me (I did not have to go long without him this summer) and we should him the Harz and went swimming in the Kuttelbacher Teich. Chris was moaning about not having an AC and we had to make do with open windows and an old fashion fan, gently moving the hot air back and forth in the room. I introduced Chris to most of my family when my cousin celebrated his birthday and put on a garden party. He was even asked to put a colourful handprint on a blank canvas ‘like leaves on a tree’, so he is now put on there forever and cannot leave anymore. Most of my cousins spoke to him (thankfully most speak really good English) and even my oldest Uncle got out his school English and managed to get Chris involved in a monologue about his choir concert coming up. (We actually went as Chris promised him *rolls eyes*)
On the first of September, I had another half marathon in Eichstätt in Bavaria while visiting Biggy. It was less hot but instead it was two 11k loops and of course that is way harder on the mind. I would always run one loop of 20 k then running 20K in multiple smaller loops.
Chris absolutely loved Bavaria, he loved the beer, the meat, the people. We went to visit Thea in Munich and Chris loved the Beer Garden Culture.
One the way back from the deep, deep Bavaria in the sturdy Volvo, the front wheel of the car just exploded near Fulda. I drove to the side of the motor way and the conversation went something like this:
C: Don’t you worry. I am a man and from Oklahoma so I can change a wheel for you, my lady in distress.
H: *doubts but in German* but opens the boot anyways. There is no wheel.
C: Why is there no wheel? What backwards country is this? What is Europe? How do Europeans survive?
I called ADAC, called Volvo on Call (should have only covered the latter – but dad told me to call both) and we were picked up from a lovely chap that tried to sell me an ADAC membership but also tried to make smalltalk with Chris. In German.
So I had to multitask speaking about cars (I have no clue), trying to not get sold a membership with lots of fine print (and I cannot say No) while simultaneously trying to make Chris feel like I still translate for him (something I can actually do).
After a couple of hours we were back on the road – but I continued sneaking along the motorway terrified of the new wheel exploding on me to.
For the 9th of September, I had to back in Kassel for an induction day – where I got to see who made it through. Guess who made it. Guess…
PAULINE! (and Suveni and Nora)
While I was getting a tour through the hospital and got to know people on my course – I remember speaking to Thalia on the hallway, speaking to Nico on the lunch break (he had no hobbies and was wearing a suit – strange dude. Over time he got less strange and way cooler.) and chatting to Martha in the tram, Chris was at home. Mum and Dad wanted to do things with him – or at least they had offered, instead they both said they hardly seen him. He must have just hidden in my room. Awkward boy. But then I guess I would have done the same. As part of our induction day, we had to line up based on the towns we are from, based on our birthdays and last names. Basem was always in the front – last name starts with A, from Hamburg and born in early January. The older years came and said hi, told us to get bikes to get around (and an helmet for Dale Road) and told us how to best study. Which I do not remember. They also told us not to get a British phone number or bank account – I had both already. (Which would come back to bite me in the behind, more to that later)
Back in Goslar we climbed up the Broken in the morning to see the sunrise, Hanna joined us. It was cold and early in the morning and Chris never hated me more.
On the 18th of September, Chris was leaving Europe from Berlin, so me and him spent a night in Berlin and I invited him for a dinner in the Film Tower with the rotating restaurant. And it made me dizzy. Also, fancy restaurants just feel weird. They feel weird for students. And I am too much of a picky eater. And broke. I am grateful for the experience but let’s wait another 10 years for that, shall we?
After a tearful goodbye Chris got into the plane towards Sweden, while I remained behind.
I always wonder how the heart can actually feel like its breaking and the more I learn about the human body – the more I want to know: Is it anxiety? What physiological mechanism underlies the heartbreak – that does feel like that.
On 19th September, me and my parents flew to Southampton. We flew from Düsseldorf to Southampton directly with an airline that quickly stopped this connection and then went broke (probably missing out on all these students flying back and forth).
We stayed in the Jury’s Inn, walked around and mostly were surprised at how much it is a shithole if compared to Edinburgh and constantly tried to find a place to drink a coffee at. Sometimes we got lucky, sometimes we did not. Mum and I went to see the Downton Abbey Film in the cinema and were positively surprised by the reclining seats – both of us used to the Cineplex back home had never really seen something like this before. Dad stayed in the pub. He stayed in the pub when we went to see the castle of Southampton (It is a ruin. Not an actual castle). But he left the pub to go to Argos to pick up a clothes drying rack that I ordered. And then he promptly returned to my bed in Romero Halls and had a nap. Weekend well spent.

Hypothetical Pokemon region based on the Midwest
Unova is based on the East Coast, and the channel Mr. Buddy already did a video on a hypothetical region based on the Western United States, so I figured I’d write up one for a region based on the Midwest. If someone else wants to take a stab at this, be my guest. [IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, SD, & WI]
It gets a bit rambly and isn’t entirely complete as I had trouble placing some of the gym types and there’s just so many choices for who to base the gym leaders and Elite Four on. But, I do throw out some suggestions here and there.
Terrain: There's shortgrass and tallgrass plains, mountains, semi-arid areas, lakes and rivers.
Starters: Region starters would be based on a tiger salamander, American badger, and the Eastern red bat (water, grass & fire respectively).
As to what the starters would end up as type wise; flying-fire for the bat is pretty obvious, but what about either a grass-ground or a grass-fight typing for the badger? I figured the water starter would more resemble a Hellbender in its final form and would have either the counter-intuitive typing of rock-water or dark-water from the Hellbender’s preferred habitat.
Other new Pokemon: New animal pokemon would likely be based around the alligator snapping turtle, American bison, copperhead or cottonmouth, coyote, either golden or bald eagle (we've got both), an egret or a heron, a hawk, mastodon (fossil), mudskipper, red and grey wolves, river otter or beaver, porcupine, prairie dog, pronghorn, sandpiper, stinkpot (a type of turtle), a toad, and warbler. There's so many possible bug types I made a separate list: arrowhead orbweaver, arrow-shaped micrathena, at least 2 beetles (probably a borer, water beetle, or tortoise beetle), a centipede, katydid, luna moth, a rodent or two (several to choose from), a jumping spider (probably Sassacus papenhoei or Phidippus audax) prairie walkingstick, sweat bee, tolype or other woolly moth, a tortoise beetle, a weevil, and the white-lined sphinx moth.
If we were to get a new deer pokemon, a grass-ghost or ground-ghost typing would be interesting to see.
New plant-based pokemon would be based on boneset (Eupatorium), corn, soy, cottonwood tree, snakeroot (Asarum canadense), snakeroot (Polygala senega), wheat, and some of the various wildflowers.
New object-based pokemon would be based on scarecrow (ghost-grass), and American Civil War era cannons and mortars (ghost-steel), and a microphone.
Legendaries: Legendaries would probably be based on the Thunderbird (flying-electric), the The Water Panther (water-dragon) and a giant horned serpent (dark-dragon or dark-water).
Places and Cities: Major cities would be based on Branson, Chicago, Clevand, Detroit, Indianopolis, Kansas City, Milwauke, St. Louis, and Wichita. The notable sites would likely be be based on both Native American and Civil War sites in the region. With both the Mississipian culture (with emphasis on Cahokia) and the various Civil War battle sites and forts throughout the region. It would be interesting to see the St. Louis as something of a reconstruction of Cahokia in its heyday. Mount Rushmore would also likely be referenced in some way (both the presidents and Crazy Horse monuments). Being that Kansas has one of the world's largest salt deposits under it, the salt mine in Hutchison would also make a good spot to visit. Areas based on Nebraska and Iowa would likely get mashed together, same for the Dakotas. Kansas would be spared getting mashed in with Iowa and Nebraska due to the sheer number of ghosttowns the state has.
There'd be no getting around the regions history with both the Wild West and Prohibition. So, activities could include something based around either. Maybe a cattle drive sidequest, or a quickdraw event. Though, both would work as basis for the plot as well.
Routes: Special routes would include extreme hot-cold shifts, tornadoes, and prairie fires.
Gyms and Gym leaders: Considering the vast amount of history in the region, there's all manner of historical figures to draw from for the basis of gym leaders. Several writers, musicians, actors and artists, as well as notable inventors, atheletes and outlaws. Thirteen presidents were elected from the region, as well 11 US presidents having been born in the region. Plus, Eisenhower was raised in and retired in Kansas.
Just listing writers alone: Ray Bradbury, Gordon Parks, Truman Capote, Kurt Vonnegut Jr, William Allen White, Ernest Hemmingway, Mark Twain, Betty Friedan, Charles Schulz, Abigail Van Buren (Pauline Philips), David Mamet, Carl Sandburg, Ann Landers (Esther Lederer), (James) Langston Hughes, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Garrison Keller, Standing Bear, Erma Bombeck, Zane Grey, and Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Michigan would have the water and steel gyms, Wisconsin the poison and ice gyms (Milwaukee breweries), Kansas the flying and ghost gyms (Air Capital of the World), Nebraska-Iowa would have the grass and normal gyms, the Dakotas would have the ground and fighting gyms. Missouri would have the rock gym for certain (the Ozarks) and something else. I wasn't really too sure about what all the other states would have. Maybe fairy and normal type gyms for Ohio? Anybody have any other suggestions for the rest?
The only gym leader I could really peg down would be for the Wichita gym. She'd be based on Amelia Earhart and two of the other trainers in the gym should be based on Clyde Cessna and Bill Lear. Though, I was thinking maybe John Brown (the dude was f---ing nuts) as basis for the ghost gym leader.
Elite Four: Again, tons of historical figures and artisans to choose from. If we went with entertainers, Oprah Winfrey, Walt Disney, "Buffalo Bill" Cody, and the Ringling Brothers. If singers, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Bob Dylan. If inventors; The Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, John Deere, and John Atanasoff (inventor of the digital computer).
You get the idea.
