Not sure if you’ve answered this already, but I’m curious; if Daemon’s name translates to “The Stone Violet”, then what would Rhaenyra’s name translate to?
I think I connected with you over on the Languages of Ice and Fire Discord, but it doesn't mean that. Rather his name is built off a word for the flower violet. It's a bit like how starting with Paul you can get Paula, Paulette, Pauline, etc. It's more natural in High Valyrian because you can never have a root standing on its own; it has to have some sort of inflectional ending. Thus it's an easy thing to swap one inflectional ending out for another to create a name (e.g. āegion > Āegon). Since the writing system is a logography, an entire glyph stands in for the inflectional ending. It's nothing more than a variable, though. For example, let's say in English words ending in -ate could be spelled with -8 since it sounds the same. Thus you could have:
medit8
medic8
anot8
rel8
navig8
puls8
rot8
Etc. If we did that, you might wondering if "medicate" was a compound of "medic" (e.g. a doctor) and the number eight. While there is certainly a relationship between "medic" and "medicine" and other things related to the profession of a doctor, the number 8 would be in there for no other reason than to tell you how the end of the word is pronounced. It might also be a handy way to know that any word that ends in 8 can have a derived form like -ation and then -ationary or -ational, etc.
The glyph for stone in Daemon is much like the number 8 above. It has no meaning: it simply tells you what class the word belongs to.

Just saying 'Paulette' is not old-timey at all xD Pauline is, it's latin, Paulette is maybe 100 years old.
Well Paulette is derived from Pauline... Also I've no direct sources but like I'm really certain it was around before that. Either way, the origin being Paulus is old-timey enough.
Come on you know what I mean

Description of Pauline Bonaparte
Buste de la princesse Pauline Borghèse, Jean-Baptiste Isabey (Louvre)
“At dinner, I was placed next Paulette, who, remembering that she had met me at Marseilles, knowing me to be in possession of her secrets since I was the confidential friend of her future husband, treated me as an old acquaintance. She was a singular combination of the most perfect physical beauty and the most bizarre moral qualities. If she was the most lovely person one could possibly see, she was also the most unreasonable that one could imagine. She behaved like a schoolgirl, speaking at random, laughing at nothing and at everything, making fun of the most serious persons, putting out her tongue at her sister-in-law when she was not looking, nudging my knee when I did not pay sufficient attention to her pranks, and attracting to herself from time to time those terrible glances with which her brother called the most untractable men to order. But they made hardly any impression on her; the next moment she would begin again, and the authority of the Commander-in-Chief of the Army of Italy fell to pieces before the giddiness of a little girl. Nevertheless, she was a good child by nature rather than from a desire to be such, for she had no principle and was capable of doing good merely from caprice.”
— The poet Arnault
[Italics in original]
*Commander-in-Chief of the Army of Italy is Napoleon.

elisa, caroline or pauline?
I love my dear Paulette the most, I even wanted to marry her but Napoleon wouldn't let me.
I also love Caroline, especially because she resembles her brother so much!
As for Elisa... well, I never really got to know her aka she's the only sister I haven't been romantically involved with

Photos of Al and Paulette - for example the recent pap ones from the street in New York - show them walking around with his arm around the top of her shoulder, holding hands at the top. That’s quite a usual almost contrived way to walk around isn’t it? Maybe with a brand new boyfriend, but after several years?
When I’m out with my boyfriend we often hold hands, we’re a very affectionate couple, but he never walks with his arm around my shoulders, that’s actually quite hard to do isn’t it? And if you didn’t want to be spotted, wouldn’t walking around like this just draw attention to yourselves?
Do you think it’s a pose that they do, just when they spot a pap? Why would you do that? Wouldn’t you just act natural?
Yeah we agree it seems posed

MALMAISON MEDIA SALON SOIRÉE 17: THE PRINCESS OF NOWHERE (2010)
1. The Introduction
Hello, Dear Neighbors. Thank you for joining the party today. I’m feeling better, fortunately, and I’m ready to analyze media again.
Fittingly, today we’re talking about Pauline Bonaparte, the woman who had a scandalous reputation back in the day and seems like a typical party girl. Since I do like the woman, I’ve always been curious as to what kind of media is out there that tells her story.
Sure, there’s the movie called “Imperial Venus”, but it looks like Pauline is far more obscure than some of her family members (and don’t even get me started on Napoleon). So you can imagine how intrigued I was after stumbling across this particular book, written by a distant descendant of the Borghese family.
I’ll admit that the author’s identity did cause concern for me, mainly due to the potential for slander and negative bias to wriggle their way into the narrative, but the premise about the story being told from the prospective of a character close to Pauline seemed intriguing so I gave the book a shot.
Luckily, it’s available in free PDF form here. And, without spoilers, the read was… interesting.
This review is dedicated to @aminoscribbles .
2. The Summary
This is the story of Pauline Bonaparte and her tumultuous and toxic relationship with Prince Camillo Borghese, told from the point of view of Pauline’s foster daughter and distant cousin, Sophie Leclerc.
(Sophie is an original character btw. )
Sounds like an interesting idea with potential, but let’s keep going.
3. The Story
First of all, due to all the POV switching and the focus on Paulette, you can pretty much forget about Sophie since she fades into the background rather quickly and becomes irrelevant faster than a new fashion trend. Kinda makes me wonder why she was even in the book to begin with.
The plot pacing is also clunky, clumsily intertwined with flashbacks and fictional letters, but apparently the author is writing for the first time so of course it’s not going to be flawless. Still, I do wish he worked a bit more on the story before publication.
The negative bias also is there but it’s a weird mixed bag and not as bad as I expected - there’s at least an attempt to make Pauline a complex character and tell the story of a toxic yet ultimately loving couple, so points for effort.
Unfortunately, the story speed runs through moments like Pauline joining Napoleon on Elba, moments that could’ve given us more of a glimpse into her character and would definitely be more engaging than the awfully long sex scenes in the book.
4. The Characters
As I said, Sophie becomes irrelevant fairly quickly so I’m not sure what to make of her. She’s a very flat character whose initial admiration for Pauline isn’t properly justified. Nor is her relationship with the woman properly explored. A shame and a waste of potential, really.
Pauline herself isn’t evil like I expected, so it’s a pleasant surprise. However, she’s still capricious, selfish and careless. She does have nice moments like personally nursing Sophie back to health and she does genuinely grieve her husband and later her son.
However, all the nice moments are undermined by the moment when it’s revealed that Pauline poisoned herself and Sophie with arsenic to make Borghese believe that they got sick and send them to France. Err… WTF?!
(Yes, she does that in the book, even though the real Pauline was so sickly that she wouldn’t even NEED poison. As for poisoning a child… can’t imagine her doing so.)
Borghese himself is, naturally, almost a saint (duh), but still makes mistakes here and there, so he’s just flat and we never see a deeper dive into his relationship with Pauline.
To be honest, all characters are flat and underdeveloped so let’s move on.
5. The Setting
Some descriptions are good but, again, underdeveloped.
6. The Writing
The writing style is actually solid and sometimes engaging, but there are a few instances of Pauline being a bit too crass to feel realistic and those sex scenes are boring as hell.
Couple that with flashbacks and letters and yeah… it’s a hit or miss at best.
7. The Conclusion
All in all, definitely not an awful book. I’ve seen MUCH worse. That being said, it’s not a good book either. Just… decent but underbaked.
Check it out if you want, but it’s still biased towards Borghese and doesn’t do Pauline justice, unfortunately. It’s a mixed bag for me though so I will not reread this book.
Anyway, on that note, let us end our tiny soirée. Stay tuned for more reviews, everyone!
Love,
Citizen Green Pixel

Alain Delon and Monica Vitti in L'Eclisse (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1962)
Cast: Alain Delon, Monica Vitti, Francisco Rabal, Lilla Brignone, Rossana Rory, Mirella Ricciardi, Louis Seignier. Screenplay: MIchelangelo Antonioni, Tonino Guerra, Elio Bartolini, Ottiero Ottieri. Cinematography: Gianni Di Venanzo. Production design: Piero Poletto. Film editing: Eraldo Da Roma. Music: Giovanni Fusco.
"Some like it cold. Michelangelo Antonioni on alienation, this time with Alain Delon and, of course, Monica Vitti. Even she looks as if she has given up in this one." -- Pauline Kael, 5001 Nights at the Movies
I'm still an admirer of Pauline Kael's film criticism, but it has dated. She did a great service in her heyday, the 1970s, by cutting through the thickets of snobbery to advance the careers of American filmmakers like Robert Altman and Sam Peckinpah. But that often meant attacking "art house" filmmakers like Antonioni and Alain Resnais, poking at their supposed intellectual pretensions. Although I was never a "Paulette," I think I qualified at least as a Kaelite: one who took her point of view as definitive. For a long time, I scoffed at films by Antonioni, Resnais, and others like Ingmar Bergman who got glowing notices from the high-toned critics but zingers from Kael. The bad thing is that I missed, or misinterpreted, a lot of great movies. And L'Eclisse is a great movie, one that, to be sure, Kael could dismiss as "cold" and mock for its director's use of Monica Vitti as a vehicle for his views on "alienation." I will grant that Vitti's limited expressive range can be something of a hindrance to full appreciation of the film. But it would have been a very different movie if a more vivid actress like Jeanne Moreau or Anna Karina had played the role of Vittoria. Vitti's marmoreal beauty is very much the point of the film: She is irresistibly attractive and at the same time frozen. Alain Delon's lively Piero begins to become blocked and awkward in his attempts to rouse her passion. In the opening scene, in which Vittoria tells Riccardo (Francisco Rabal) that she's leaving him, the two behave in an almost robotic, mechanical way, unable to release anything that feels like a natural human emotion at the event. We see later that Vittoria is able to let herself go, but only when sex is not in the offing and when she is playing someone other than herself: i.e., when she blacks up and pretends to be an African dancer. But Marta (Mirella Ricciardi) puts a stop to this by saying "That's enough. Let's stop playing Negroes." Marta, a colonial racist who calls Black people "monkeys," evokes the repressive side of European civilization, but L'Eclisse transcends any pat statements about "alienation" through its director's artistry, through the way in which Antonioni plays on contrasts throughout. We move from the slow, paralyzed male-female relationships to the frenzy of the stock exchange scenes, from Vittoria's rejection of Piero's advances to scenes in which they are being silly and having fun. Nothing is stable in the film, no emotion or relationship is permanent. And the concluding montage of life going on around the construction site where Vittoria and Piero have seemingly failed to make their appointment is one of the most eloquent wordless sequences imaginable.

hey bestie you're the halliwell family tree expert on here so I must come to you with my Thoughts. first I wish Prue's birthday was canonically 31 Oct 1970 since she would then be exactly 300 years older than Melinda.... ANYWAY I was thinking about the past lives and.... so Baxter, Bowen and Russell and all cousins, right? It's not clear what degree of cousins they are but the immediate assumption would be first cousins. Except they all have different maiden names so there must be at least two sisters who were their mothers but I'll honestly trust grams response to Wyatt's birth and assume that there hadn't been any boys born in the line so then it would be 3 girls who each had a daughter??? homies would have been the charmed ones? Unless they were like first cousins once removed? but even then there would need to be a mother to allow them to still be a witch because of what I just said about boys?? So then surely the actual common ancestor of all the cousins would be a lot further back than just a grandparent??? You get me???
wait slay yeah.
ig. i guess the possible explanation is that two of them are not blood cousins. so picture this if u will. there's baxter's mama a warren witch grams's grams we'll say um Philomena. philomena gives birth to p (pauline for now) baxter, a witch with molecular deceleration. But!! as well all know, it takes two to tango. so here me out. philomena has a sister (paulette!) but philomena also has a husband. (joseph baxter. i guess.) and joseph is also a witch bc like grams was disappointed when patty married a mortal and also like you know when paige is with henry she's like didn't i teach you girls anything implying that witch-witch marriages are the status quo. so paulette russell nee warren gives birth to phyllis russell a daughter with the power of pyrokinesis. so now p baxter has a cousin in p russell. but back over to joseph baxter (also a witch) he has a sister (also a witch) named idk opal or ruby or whatever anyways ruby marries so she's now ruby bowen nee baxter and has a daughter pearl bowen meaning p baxter now has two (!!) cousins, one on her mom's side, one on her dad's side and technically bowen and russel are not related. WAIT UNLESS. unless joseph comes from a family of three joseph ruby and stephen and philomena and paulette (sisters) fall in love with joseph and stephen (brothers). RIGHT? @ charmed writers in 1999 send me money. kisses!
