Oliver Edward Nelson (June 4, 1932 – October 28, 1975) was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, arranger, composer, and bandleader.
He is perhaps best remembered for his groundbreaking 1961 Impulse! album The Blues and the Abstract Truth, widely regarded as one of the most significant American jazz recordings of the modern jazz era. The album features the definitive version of the jazz standard "Stolen Moments". Other important recordings from the early 1960s are More Blues and the Abstract Truth and Sound Pieces, both also on Impulse!

Oliver Nelson - The Blues And The Abstract Truth - 01 - Stolen Moments
For those who haven’t but would like to build a jazz library, this is a foundational work.
Oliver Nelson plays the solo of his life on “Stolen Moments.” The very essence of “blue.”
It is claimed that the album was a major influence on Donald Fagen.
Oliver Nelson – alto saxophone, tenor saxophone..... Eric Dolphy – flute, alto saxophone..... George Barrow – baritone saxophone.... Freddie Hubbard – trumpet.... Bill Evans – piano..... Paul Chambers – bass.... Roy Haynes – drums....

TENDER MERCIES (1983) Grade: C
The story and plot wasn't that special at all, the characters are not interesting enough for such a thin plot. The good acting keeps it watchable.

Can the musicians ruin their unintentionally perfect finales? Actually, they can, but they dpthis all by returning to a studio. Roxy Music could've made another album since Avalon and I fear their current tour still leaves the possibility open. I wish they would've only kept the concert part of their reunion, since you cannot make a better conclusion to a career than Avalon. I spoke of the LP many times, though I shall repeat – the disc serves as the series finale of Roxy Music, all of the themes they dealt with on their previous albums reach their apotheosis in here. Ferry is finally happy, there is no need to destroy that. Moreover, the group had the correct response to the platter they did after one of their previous reunions, I hope they still hold the same view.

When Lily said to "name 50 villians" who are "sympathetic," that was too easy. But now that we've graduated to Lily's bullshit moving of the goal post . . . Well, being annoying is one of my special interests, so.
Naming 50 villians who, "have a point, successfully navigate still being a villian, and are well written."
(Extra challenge: trying not to repeat any of the ones Crim and Ant have already named. Sorry if I repeat one by accident.)

7. The Cenobites, The Hell Bound Heart, Hellraiser (1987), Hellraiser 2, Hellraiser (2022)

10. Goff, Peacemaker
11. Rorschach, Watchman (comic)
12. Ozymandias, Watchman (comic)
13. The Comedian, Watchman (comic)

A few of these are malicious compliance-- but Lily made the rules, not me. I made sure to scatter them in the list, so, good luck to her picking them out considering she only watches cartoons, lol.

Oliver Nelson - Stolen Moments
As Oliver Nelson is known primarily as a big band leader and arranger, he is lesser known as a saxophonist and organizer of small ensembles. Blues and the Abstract Truth is his triumph as a musician for the aspects of not only defining the sound of an era with his all-time classic “Stolen Moments,” but on this recording, assembling one of the most potent modern jazz sextets ever. Lead trumpeter Freddie Hubbard is at his peak of performance, while alto saxophonists Nelson and Eric Dolphy (Nelson doubling on tenor) team to form an unlikely union that was simmered to perfection. Bill Evans (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Roy Haynes (drums) can do no wrong as a rhythm section. “Stolen Moments” really needs no comments, as its undisputable beauty shines through in a three-part horn harmony fronting Hubbard’s lead melody. It’s a thing of beauty that is more timeless as the years pass.

It's interesting to compare "traditional" religions to things like Mormonism and Scientology. We know that Joseph Smith and L. Ron Hubbard were charlatans and con artists. It makes me wonder how similar Paul and Mohammad were to them.
Exactly! It’s all an appeal to antiquity, a logical fallacy that asserts that just because something is ancient, its correct.
Uneducated people see ancient texts like the Bible or Quran, and it all seems very deep and wise to them, because they don’t do much reading. And because these religious practices have been ingrained in our culture for thousands of years, they are programmed to never question something so timeless.
It’s why society hates when feminists question ancient rules of patriarchy. Why must we create a baby for 9 months, and give it the father name? Why must we get married and perform endless free domestic labor? Why must we accept this role and life we are given?
There is no special mysticism or wisdom ancients had that we don’t : they shat and gossiped and cried just the same as we do now.
