POUNDING the streets
yesterday concordia and mcgill students stiked and marched througj downtown montreal to fight against the racist fucking tution hikes the quebec governemnt threw at us and demanded free education for all. fuck the ethno-national state. fuck legault. and fuck the whole CAQ y''all are all pigs.
quick facts: it basically doubles tution for out of province and international students, but only for english speaking universities (concordia, mcgill, bishops). this is because montreal is becoming ""too anglicized"". does not apply to french or belgium students (white francophones). does apply to other international students coming from other non-european (white) francophone countries. yes did i mention its racist? it's very racist. this extra money goes to quebec gov to go to french universities. this tuition hike kicks concordia and mcgill in the balls because no one wants to pay that much and these unis will lose So Much Money (concordia already broke). so uh yea. its kinda rly fucked.

It maybe says something about just how much stuff has already been announced about the next few years that someone can genuinely ask if Jinkx Monsoon is the first American cast for Doctor Who, when they aren't even the first American to get a big casting announcement in the new RTD era. (Neil Patrick Harris who?)
The first American cast in Doctor Who was, I believe, Reed De Rouen all the way back in 1966, the one and only genuine American actor among all the ersatz Americans populating Tombstone in "The Gunfighters" (he was Pa Clanton).
I am not even a Doctor Who but even I can see that this is a hysterically funny fear to express about Doctor Who

Patrick Clanton on the Evolution of Behind the Magic YouTube Channel
Patrick Clanton on the Evolution of Behind the Magic YouTube Channel
Last June, three months into sheltering-in-place and unable to perform for a live audience, actor Patrick Clanton decided to tackle an idea he has had for a while about starting a YouTube channel about the hidden gems of Disney. Originally called Behind the Ears, the channel’s early videos explored the making of Zoog era Disney Channel shows like The Famous Jett Jackson and short-lived Disney…

Be a literacy champion! -- Put a Book on Every Bed
Amy Dickinson
December, 2021
Dear Readers: Every year at Christmastime, I ask readers to put “A Book on Every Bed.” I do so in memory of my mother, Jane, whose weekly trips to our town’s library always yielded armloads of books. In our household, we went without some things that other families had, but we always had books in abundance.
The idea to put books on beds at Christmastime originally came from historian David McCullough, who recounted the Christmas mornings of his youth, when the very first thing he woke up to was a wrapped book at the base of his bed, left there by Santa.
The most important part is what happens next: Family members reading together.
Working with my local literacy partner Children’s Reading Connection (childrensreadingconnection.org)[CQ], this campaign has grown to include schools, libraries and booksellers, who have donated scores of books to families that might not have access to them.
This year, I am thrilled that author Jacqueline Woodson (jacquelinewoodson.com) agreed to share a very personal literacy story. Ms. Woodson is the winner of, well -- all of the awards for her genre-spanning work, including the prestigious Newbery and Caldecott, as well as a Macarthur “Genius” grant (2020). Her books, “Brown Girl Dreaming” and “The Day You Begin” are both very important to the children in my life.
She writes:
A Pile of Books
“The other night, a friend was describing her love for books. She said that love began when she was a child and her dad would bring a pile of books to read to her before she went to sleep.
As I listened, I imagined what would it have been like to have 'a pile of books' and someone who had the time at the end of the day to read them to me. Or better, to be able to read them to myself.
The books I had as a child were borrowed from the library or the worn books that had moved through many hands before landing, often in states of disrepair, in my own hands.
Books were both a necessity and a luxury in my childhood.
My mother wanted us to read constantly but didn't have the money to buy us 'piles of books'.
To have a brand-new book to open at night - it's crisp unbroken binding, the scent of its pages, the soft rush of air and excitement that comes with turning them - this is my dream for every child.
A pile of books begins with one. And like a child, it grows.”
Jacqueline Woodson
To support independent bookstores, which have had to pivot during the pandemic (like all of us), I’m presenting some recently published books in various categories, selected by some of my favorite booksellers.
From Jill Yoemans, owner of White Whale Bookstore in Pittsburgh, PA -- three recommendations for Early Readers:
“Mia Mayhem is a Superhero!,” by Kara West and Leeza Hernandez.
“I’m On It! (Elephant and Piggie Like Reading!),” by Andrea Tsurumi and Mo Willems.
“Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea” (a Narwhal and Jelly Book), by Ben Clanton.
From Lisa Swayze, General Manager of Buffalo Street Books in Ithaca, NY (Buffalostreetbooks.com):
“The Young Adult category has some of the most diverse, exciting, and revolutionary writing happening today. Buffalo Street Books' #1 pick this year is ‘This Poison Heart,’ by Kalynn Bayron. Once you're entangled in this heart-stopping story, you won't be able to put the book down.
“We also recommend: ‘The Firekeeper's Daughter,’ by Angeline Boulley, ‘We Are Not Broken,’ by George M. Johnson, and ‘We Are Inevitable,’ by Gayle Forman.”
From the bookselling staff of Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington DC, Adult non-fiction (politics-prose.com):[CQ]
“Empire of Pain,” by Patrick Radden Keefe: A riveting account of the Sackler pharmaceutical dynasty. Over decades they engaged in aggressive marketing of drugs, culminating in the promotion of oxycontin, which fostered the opioid crisis.
“Crying in H Mart,” by Michelle Zauner: In moving prose, the singer paints a vivid picture of the pain she endured growing up as the biracial daughter of a Korean mother and an American father.
“All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley's Sack, a Black Family Keepsake”
by Tiya Miles: Winner of the National Book Award, this historian pieces together the lost lives of a Black American family -- through the contents of a flour sack from the 1840s. The story of the sack carries "all the drama and pathos of ancient tapestries depicting the deeds of queens."

Phoenix here! Thanks a lot, and I hope you don’t mind but I took the liberty of sending you something already XD Ah I was also curious; what songs do you associate with Fleurmione or feel that it sounds like and fits such a pair?
A Fleurmione Playlist you say...
ALRIGHT. Here we go again... 👀👀 And I suggest you buckle up, because... well, you’ll see.
Bookstore Girl - Charlie Burg from Album: Two, Moonlight
(I mean, the name says it all. Seems like someone’s been stealing glances at the bookworm at the library...)
“Oh, bookstore girl, I wonder what your name is, You know you're famous in my group of friends. Oh, bookstore girl, I feel a sudden urge to, Purchase the book you shelved the other day.”
Literature Lovers - Jose Vanders listen at time stamp 29:39
(Ah, falling in love in the library? Pretending to be more interested in the books rather than the company? Too afraid to admit to that unspoken something? Sounds like an average wlw Tuesday at Hogwarts.)
“She's a fiery way with words, Or so you have heard. From your friends and, what will you do? With those hopeless two, Both pretending to be literature lovers instead.”
Metaphors - Keaton Henson
(Finally admitting to falling in love at the library, despite the goings on in the Triwizard tournament... Fleur’s just so in love, and they’re both so young, but Hogwarts makes it seem like they have all the time in the world to stay in love.)
“And I love that you talk about Dylan Harry, And all the books you read, I know you so well, didn't notice any spell. But you seem to be taking the lead, And not to mention, Despite pretension, You are infinitely interesting to me.”
Blue Notes - Jose Vanders
(That vacation to Fleur’s home during the summer? The little bubble of safety before Hermione disappears into the fray.)
“And we'll confess our interest in each other, Though we've known for a while, Then we can listen to records with the lights off, And you can draw letters on my hand, And we can talk about predestination,”
Two - Sleeping At Last from Album: Atlas Enneagram
(Because Hermione’s fifth year at Hogwarts is hell, and Umbridge is absolutely rotten. And she misses the French witch so terribly. But at such a distance, there’s only little Fleur can do to help our bookworm.)
“Sweetheart, you look a little tired. When did you last eat? Come in and make yourself right at home. Stay as long as you need Tell me, is something wrong? If something's wrong, you can count on me. You know I'll take my heart clean apart if it helps yours beat.”
To Build A Home - The Cinematic Orchestra, Patrick Watson from Album: Ma Fleur
(Shell cottage feels, anyone? Because I think this one broke me.)
“There is a house built out of stone, Wooden floors, walls and window sills. Tables and chairs worn by all of the dust, This is a place where I don't feel alone. This is a place where I feel at home, 'Cause, I built a home. For you For me Until it disappeared, From me From you.”
Novels - Rusty Clanton from Album: Calm & Normal
(Because Hermione can’t tell Fleur what their quest is. And she has to go. She doesn’t know when she’s coming back, if she’s coming back at all. And running away from everything just seems so easy.)
“Let's save up for something new, Someday I won't have to wait for you. What if I asked, What if I asked you to stay? What if it cost, You, your heart and your last name?”
Land of the Living - Roo Panes from Album: Tiger Striped Sky
(And so the battle is over, the war is won. But not all victories are forged in glory. There’s healing to be done, scars that needed tending. But not for the first time, Hermione thinks with Fleur by her side, things might just turn out okay after all.)
“I hear the voices of my childhood singing, It's the world beyond those doorways where we used to play. I know a land called the Land of the Living, It's the world beyond those curtains where we learned the play. Oh, we'll go back, we'll go back to the beginning, And we'll pickup on the trails of forgotten ways.”
You wanted a Fleurmione playlist?
There’s. Your.✨Fleurmione. Playlist!✨;)
Happy listening! 💙💖

Park leads Founders Cup; 54-year-old Davies in contention

Park leads Founders Cup; 54-year-old Davies in contention
PHOENIX (AP) Inbee Park felt as if she was in 2013 on the front nine Saturday at the Founders Cup. Laura Davies brought back memories of her dominant desert run more than 20 years ago.
The Hall of Famers shot matching 9-under 63s in sunny and breezy conditions at Desert Ridge. Park reached 14 under to take a one-stroke lead over Mariajo Uribe into the final round. The 54-year-old Davies was tied for fourth at 11 under in the event honoring the 13 women who founded the LPGA Tour in 1950.
Park played the first five holes in 6 under , holing out from 90 yards for eagle on the par-4 third. She birdied the par-4 ninth for a front-nine 31, made another birdie on the par-5 11th and capped the bogey-free round with an 18-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th.
Article continues below …
”The front nine, everything felt great,” Park said. ”Still, the back nine, I felt like I was hitting the ball pretty solid, but just the putts didn’t seem to drop like front nine. If it dropped like front nine, it would’ve been 59.”
In 2013, she won the first three majors and finished with six victories. The 29-year-old South Korean star took a break from the tour in August after the Women’s British Open, only returning two weeks ago for her title defense in Singapore.
”I think I just love the breaks,” Park said. ”Just really refreshes me. Obviously, I get nervous because I haven’t played tournament golf for a while. … I’m not burned out. I’m happy to play golf again.”
The 18-time tour winner has seven major titles and won the gold medal at the Rio Olympics.
Davies had her best round on tour since 2005 . She’s trying to win for the fifth time in Phoenix after taking the Standard Register PING at Moon Valley four straight years from 1994-97.
”I’ll certainly have a crack at it,” Davies said. ”At least I’ve given myself a chance now.”
She birdied five of the final six holes on the front nine, made a 6-foot eagle putt on 11 and birdied 15 and 17 in the bogey-free round.
”Just solid golf,” Davies said. ”Hit it close enough and hole some really good putts. On greens as beautiful as this, you have to be making your putts, and that’s what happened today.”
Davies is fighting Achilles tendon and calf problems in her left leg.
”I can swing as hard as I want with no feeling at all, but every step is just misery,” Davies said.
She won’t let the injury keep her out of the final round.
”I’ll crawl around if I have to,” Davies said.
Uribe birdied the 18th for a 67. Winless on the LPGA Tour, the 28-year-old Colombian won the 2007 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
”I’m just thinking of putting good rolls on my putts,” Uribe said. ”That’s all that matters on this golf course.”
Ariya Jutanugarn was two strokes back at 12 under after her third 68.
Chella Choi had a 66 to join Davies at 11 under.
Tiffany Joh aced the fourth hole in a 64 that left her 10 under with Brittany Lincicome (68) and Marina Alex (70). Joh used a 5-iron on the 166-yard hole, a day after shanking a 7-iron and scrambling for par.
”This is like the worst holiday to be making a hole-in-one on,” Joh said about St. Patrick’s Day. ”You’ll go broke buying everyone green beers.”
Jessica Korda had a 71 to get to 8 under. She won three weeks ago in Thailand in her return from surgery to correct a severe overbite. Second-round leader Cydney Clanton had five bogeys in a 74 that left her tied for 23rd at 7 under. Singapore winner Michelle Wie also was 7 under after a 71.

Q&A: ‘School of Rock’ The Musical
Broadway legend Andrew Lloyd Webber is excited to announce casting has been finalized for the national tour of his high-octane Broadway and West End hit School of Rock – The Musical! that will play the Broward Center for the Performing Arts December 12 – 24, 2017.
School of Rock – The Musical is based on the smash hit 2003 film of the same, featuring music from the movie, as well as an original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Julian Fellowes, choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter and direction by Laurence Connor. The musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pintsized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.
Soon to be rocking the roofs off of theaters across America, the School of Rock – The Musical national tour stars Rob Colletti as Dewey, Lexie Dorsett Sharp as Rosalie, Matt Bittner as Ned, Emily Borromeo as Patty, Merritt David Janes as Dewey Alternate, Deidre Lang as Ms. Sheinkopf, Olivia Bucknor as Shonelle, Theodora Silverman as Katie, Chloe Anne Garcia as Marcy, Carson Hodges as Mason, Gianna Harris as Tomika, Gilberto Moretti-Hamilton as Freddy, Phoenix Schuman as Zack, John Michael Pitera as Billy, Theo Mitchell-Penner as Lawrence and Ava Briglia as Summer. The adult ensemble features John Campione, Patrick Clanton, Christopher DeAngelis, Kristian Espiritu, Melanie Evans, Liam Fennecken, Kara Haller, Elysia Jordan, Jameson Moss, Sinclair Mitchell, Tim Shea and Hernando Umana. The kid’s ensemble features Rayna Farr, Bella Fraker, Alex Louis, Tommy Ragen, Gabriella Uhl and Aiden Niklas Villa.
It was a pleasure to sit down with Lexie Dorsett Sharp, who plays Rosalie, for this exclusive interview:

At what age did you begin singing/acting?
I actually started singing with a voice teacher when I was 6. Very early on I showed an interest, so I grew up singing in church, doing community productions, etc. I also played the violin for 10 years and played the Piano. I have always had a real love for music.
What was your first professional gig?
At the age of 15 at the Red Mountain Theater Company in Birmingham, Alabama I was hired to be a swing in Bee Hive, which was a 60’s revue show. I covered many of the female players. At the time, I was balancing high school and that show, but it was such a memorable time in my life.
Other than this show, what role has been your favorite to play and why?
I toured with Elf the Musical and played the mother role of Emily and I really enjoyed that. My husband in real life played my husband on stage, and that made it very special.
What’s your fantasy role?
Honestly because it hasn’t happened yet, I would love to play the diva in Spamalot (The Lady of the Lake), because it is such a funny and powerful woman role, and its comedy and that’s where I feel like I shine. Another role, which I have been up for a few times and haven’t played yet is the Witch in Into The Woods.
WATCH:
youtube
Is there a lot of pressure for you and the cast to perform in this musical since the movie is so iconic?
I have toured with Young Frankenstein The Musical, and the Addams Family, which both had a strong fan base due to the movie/TV show, and what I found in general is that most people are very happy when they see the shows translate onto the stage.
What should the South Florida audiences expect out of this touring company of School of Rock?
We keep all the iconic stuff and expand on it. The movie was mostly focused on Jack, and in the show we focus on a lot of the relationships. I have a lot of reign with my character, and I think it made the show more comedic and a better show. In addition, the kids (we travel with 16 kids). are playing the instruments live. It’s an unbelievable experience for the audience.
Also, Merri Sugarman of Tara Rubin Casting did a phenomenal job of casting a diversified group of entertainers. I think this is very important, and she did a wonderful job. It makes everyone be able to look at the show and see themselves in one of the characters.
School of Rock – The Musical opened on Broadway to rave reviews on Sunday, December 6, 2015. This Ben Brantley New York Times ‘Critics’ Pick’ “is an inspiring jolt of energy and mad skillz,” raves Jesse Oxfeld of Entertainment Weekly. And in his four-star Critics’ Pick review, Time Out’s David Cote proclaimed, “School’s IN – forever!” School of Rock – The Musical was nominated for four 2016 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score (Lloyd Webber and Slater), Best Book (Fellowes), and Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Alex Brightman). School of Rock – The Musical also won the 2017 Oliver award for Outstanding Achievement in Music.
Tickets for School of Rock will be available at the Broward Center AutoNation Box Office, 201 SW Fifth Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33312, browardcenter.org or by calling 954.462.0222. Orders for groups of ten (10) or more may be placed by calling 954.660.6307. Ticket prices start at $35.25.

Patrick Clanton on Exploring Disney’s Hidden Gems on Behind the Ears YouTube Channel
Behind the Ears is a YouTube channel that explores the histories of Disney’s hidden gems. Since its debut in early June, the series of video essays have taken a deeper dive into some of Disney’s past projects; ranging from Zoog era Disney Channel shows like The Famous Jett Jackson, to short-lived Broadway musicals like Aida, and even made-for-TV events like the Whitney Houston-produced version of…
