Today we're once again reminded of the levels of cruelty people are capable of.
I missed most of the drama with the bait accounts, but I want to offer some positivity and solace to those affected.
Many of you actually cared about the fake child behind the screen. You wanted to help, you sent kindness and support, and I watched many of you worry in private on discord-- everyone was very realistic about the claims. Obviously they were probably wrong, but goddamn, they needed help.
Don't be embarrassed or ashamed that you fell for it.
You are a good person, who sees good in the world.
You aren't gullible or easily manipulated.
You are still capable of trust, and you should be so proud of yourself for manging to hold on to that trait after everything you've been through.
Don't let this do further damage to you. Don't be angry with yourself, don't lose that faith in the good of humanity.
Don't let sick people trick you into thinking the world is full of only horrible people. Don't let yourself become more skeptical, because that's what they want.
Continue to believe survivors
In Canada, we have a saying.
"Better that someone abuse the system, than for someone who needs it to not have access."
Stay with me, I'm going somewhere with this.
When we talk about Universal Healthcare with Americans, this topic comes up a lot. "But people will abuse the system."
Yes, but more people actually need and use the system appropriately. You can't allow bad people to harm everyone. Everyone loses in that case.
As proof:
We pay less in taxes than Americans, and still get free Healthcare. I take home more money than you, and still get more out of it. The myth that our waitlists are months long is fake and orchestrated by American insurance companies.
Consider, for a second, how your background plays into your beliefs and skepticism regarding these topics. Maybe I was just raised to be more trusting, I don't know.
But I certainly don't think the mindset is harmful.
You can read interviews on the isstd website with clinicians that were working during the satanic panic. One interview stood out to me in particular.
Imagine for a second that you have a patient sitting in front of you. They tell you that they have dreams about being abused by a satanic cult. They give you details of these dreams and you talk through them together. For now, you're focused on how these dreams affect them. Are they losing sleep? Is their daily life affected? Anxiety? They begin to tell you about their paranoia, and how people they recognize are in the dreams.
You probe a bit deeper.
They wonder aloud if maybe it happened in real life.
How do you respond? Really think about how your response will come across.
This was the satanic panic.
The ISSTD didn't find their patients themselves. Doctors from across the world referred their patients to the ISSTD's treatment program in Chicago. The doctors at the ISSTD trusted the referring doctors, who had already done the majority of work and background gathering (meaning the ISSTD met these clients long after they had made their claims, rather than "implanting" those memories themselves). Police were involved trying to sort through all the information to find real culprits. Everyone was terrified. No one knew what was happening or who to trust or believe. It looked real.
In the back of every doctor's mind was the question, "What if they're telling the truth?"
Many doctors didn't believe their clients, but telling them that to their face would be bad practice.
This large scale hysteria was something no one was prepared for. They were flying by the seat of their pants, hoping for the best and that an answer would fall from the sky.
Yes, many of the claims were fake. Whether they were consciously made up, or stand-in pseudomemories for real abuse (a well-documented thing), and the rare cases mixed in that were genuine-- doctors tried to take their clients' claims at face value.
Imagine you tell your doctor about your abuse and they say, "that sounds a bit extreme, I don't think that's possible."
Programmed DID existed before the panic, it exists to this day. Just because you can't find the research doesn't mean it isn't there.
By claiming something specific isn't real, you also discredit the abuse leading up to it.
Let me put it another way, who cares if programmed DID is possible? Organized and ritual abuse is real. Trafficking, CSA films, war crimes, conversion groups, churches. DID is real.
Grey Faction and TST want you to stay in the mindset that it's more important to weed out fakers and malingerers than to trust people in the hopes you help just one person in a real way. They want you to be skeptical of everyone and everything in order to maintain their public image, because if you look too hard, you'll see the terrible things they have done.
GF has a bad habit of being like, "The TST doesn't take part in LARGE SCALE MURDER AND CANNIBALISM, that's not even real, it was debunked during the panic," as if to say anything less severe isn't worthy of note and also must not be real. It's surprisingly effective, and by connecting more absurd ideas with RAMCOA and the ISSTD, they manage to discredit huge swathes of the field.
Some people like to think they took the red pill, and that they've ascended to a higher level of intelligence with a new, better ability to look at things impartially, when they're really just assholes falling for bullshit. They hurt real survivors and still think they're in the right.
It's vile behavior done for cheap kicks and internet brownie points. Even 4chan types wouldn't go that far or be that pathetic.
Who else could look someone in the face and say, "I don't believe you."
They want you to think they're better than you, but which is better?
Outward and vocal skepticism and dismissal, or quiet, thoughtful reflection with the longterm goal of helping this person find their truth?
Some of you would make much better doctors than others.
The bad people aren't the ones "faking" or lying. Those people at mentally ill and still deserving of help.
The bad people are the ones who want to dismiss every claim because one person once lied about it.
Don't lose your faith. Don't let this set you back. We need more people like you.
I'm proud of you for caring about people.
What happened will further stigmatize survivors, it did real damage to people. You're not alone.
Don't let them win, you did the right things.
Stay safe, everyone.
We survived this kind of discourse once on a much larger scale. We'll do it again.

....what did the doctor mean by embryos...holy crap
As Striker lay recovering on the exam table, the doctor reentered the room, his face pale, clipboard trembling in his hands. He hesitated, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. Blitzø’s sharp gaze snapped toward him.
Blitzø: *impatiently* What now? Spit it out, doc.
The doctor shifted nervously, his hands fidgeting as he adjusted his oversized glasses.
Doctor: *stammering* I... I’m afraid there’s a serious problem.
Blitzø’s stomach sank. He didn’t like the sound of that.
Blitzø: *growling* What now?!
Doctor: *gathering courage* Striker… has Infernal Bloom Disease.
The room fell silent. Striker’s drowsy eyes fluttered open at the words, but Blitzø was already reacting.
Blitzø: WHAT?! Infernal Bloom? That’s—wait, how the hell didn’t you know that before? Isn’t that, like, the first thing you idiots check?
Doctor: *sheepishly* Well, normally, yes. We looked at the wrong file unknowingly. And we were so focused on the implantation—
Blitzø: *snarling* You mean to tell me you just pumped embryos into a guy with a literal death disease because you didn’t bother to look?! How dumb are you people?
The doctor shrank back, but before he could respond, Blitzø turned his fury into action. He rushed to Striker’s side and scooped him up effortlessly, cradling the dazed assassin against his chest.
Blitzø: *shouting* We’re done here. You’re not laying another finger on him. I don’t care if this is Hell's best hospital—you’re all a bunch of incompetent morons!
The nurse, peeking through the doorway, tried to intervene.
Nurse: *timidly* "Sir, you can’t just leave—he needs treatment—"
Blitzø shot her a glare that made her flinch.
Blitzø: *snarling* The only thing he needs is to get away from you quacks.
Striker stirred weakly in Blitzø’s arms, blinking up at him in confusion.
Striker: *hoarsely* Blitz... what’s going on?
Blitzø: *softening slightly* Don’t worry about it, cowboy. We’re getting out of this shithole.
Striker tried to protest, but his body was too weak to fight back. Blitzø carried him out of the exam room and into the hallway, where staff and patients stared in stunned silence.
Blitzø ignored them all, his mind racing. Infernal Bloom Disease wasn’t just any illness—it was lethal, and its progression was brutal. And now, thanks to these idiots, Striker was not only dealing with that but carrying embryos he didn’t ask for.
As they reached the hospital exit, Striker managed to mumble something, his voice barely audible.
Striker: *weakly* You’re not gonna carry me all the way, are you?
Blitzø huffed, a strained laugh escaping him despite his anger.
Blitzø: Shut up. I’m trying to be heroic here.
Striker smirked faintly, but the remaining drugs in his system overtook him, and he slumped against Blitzø’s shoulder. Blitzø’s grip tightened as they stepped out into the dim light of the Sloth district, his resolve solidifying.
Blitzø: *muttering* Don’t worry, Striker. I’ll figure this out. No one’s taking you down. Not this disease, and definitely not some moron doctors.

My Thoughts on "An Open Letter" from Grey Faction
As a preface, this is something I've thought about doing ever since I wrote my post on RAMCOA's history, as a link to their site was featured due to it having extensive detail and evidence regarding the behavior of ISSTD's members. When I read through their "open letter to the DID community", I had a lot of thoughts about it, not nearly all of them positive, but addressing that wasn't relevant to that post.
So here's this one. My thoughts under the cut.
To start, I do want to say that I understand there is good faith in what is written. Their points seem genuine and open minded, and do source two medical writings for their viewpoints about DID not necessarily being a "strictly" post-trauma disorder. However, I strongly contest their reasons for presenting this, and the implications behind them (and the writings themselves).
Grey Faction asserts that the trauma model of DID is the fundamental deficiency that bolsters the ISSTD. They imply that DID being defined as a trauma-caused disorder is the solitary gateway to treatment that improperly fixates on reliving and recovering from trauma, therefore making it a net benefit to redefine the disorder entirely and include those not affected by any form of trauma.
However, I must note the information I was able to glean from their sources first-- one of them is from 1994, being by no means "recent" as they state. It claims in the abstract that DID (referred to as MPD) in its entirety is merely socially constructed, "like other forms of multiplicity". I don't think I need to go too in depth about why presenting this is the opposite of "helpful" for those with DID, but I'll make a separate post for it if anyone asks about it.
The second source actually is recent, being from 2022. However, it mostly includes DID as a footnote while addressing dissociative disorders as a whole, and how other factors can play into developing one. It also focuses in on the failures of treatment for dissociative disorders due to the fixation on trauma-focused healing, and posits an urgency for psychiatric teams to incorporate therapies and treatments that actually have empirical evidence of being beneficial regardless of specific diagnosis.
With those out of the way, I want to address what I see as the fundamental flaw of this letter: its indirect address of "the community". Online spaces for DID are rife with self diagnosis, misinformation and misinterpretation, so this could be targeting all sorts of people and viewpoints that have nothing to do with DID, but rather "multiplicity" as a whole cultural category. Something that, much like both sources seem to do, completely conflate it with DID- a disorder.
Not all forms recognized as "multiplicity" are in any fashion related to a disorder. DID is not a disorder on the basis of experiencing multiple facets of self, but rather because of the dissociative separation, and the diminished quality of life that results. Something that, on that level, is still suspected to occur primarily (if not exclusively) due to trauma, and as such trauma is still a noted aspect in the DSM 5. Therefore listing any and all forms of multiplicity under the same categorization, let alone including them when addressing DID specifically, is very much a problem.
With all this in mind I want to propose what I find to be the real issue with DID and its clinical treatment - the trauma-centric approach to recovery, and the absolute ego and stubbornness of those in the ISSTD.
If a patient is diagnosed with DID, a trauma-based dissociative disorder, and is found during the course of care to not have any form of trauma, this constitutes a misdiagnosis. But as we've seen from the ISSTD message boards, their members absolutely HATE the idea that their diagnosis could be wrong, and will bend over backwards to justify their patient having DID-- including leading and implanting fabricated memories, like the cases of Dr. Braun.
If you were to remove that stubborn mentality and focus on treatment that is not centered around recovering specific traumatic details, then two things can happen when a client is found to have no trauma history. Either treatment has been found beneficial and can continue while pursuing a re-diagnosis, or treatment has not been found beneficial and a re-diagnosis can be pushed to find what treatment will be more effective. That person can then, if they experience a non-disordered form of multiplicity, seek out spaces that are more accurate to their experiences.
Dissociative Identity Disorder is not synonymous with "multiplicity" as a cultural experience, and cannot be boiled down to "people in your head" due to the many factors of its diagnostic presentation. When pushing for completely removing the trauma model, there's a heavy conflation between DID and other forms of "multiplicity", not only by the public but even by medical professionals writing these dissertations, that further damages the ability to recognize and treat DID. This also re-presents a problem from psychology's history, of treating any "abnormal" behavior or belief as inherently disordered.
This conflation is something I am not complacent in within my own spaces, and it is not something I will become complacent in just because cited sources feature a doctor.

( TW for blood )
CHAPTER 12 - Trying
Leo stared into the eyes of his victim patient.
Her body still trembled as her eyes remained fixed onto Leo’s, begging to be freed from the pain.
With one blink Leo’s mind flashed.
The turtle who was once Lotus in front of him now blurred and distorted into another one of his brothers.
A dark crimson streak was sliced into the skin over their right eye.
They were crying.
Pain was written all over their face as they clung both hands over the wound.
‘ IT’S MY FAULT. ‘
Leo blinked again, returning to the present.
‘ What am I supposed to tell her? How am I not gonna freak her out again?..’
The implant was out.
But now he needed to stitch the wound.
‘ What the heck am I gonna do to help with the pain if the Lidocaine WEARS OFF AGAIN??? Maybe if I go as fast as I can it will last long enough to stitch the wound.. It’s small! I think It’ll only need two or three stitches.. That shouldn’t take me long to do if I keep my head on straight… ‘
Leo didn’t want a re-run of what happened earlier with Lotus passing out, but he highly doubted she would rather get stitches feeling every prick and pull of the needle and thread instead of getting numbed..
.. And there was NO way he would inflict so much pain on her... again.
Leo’s words echoed and taunted him.
‘ “ I promise. You won’t feel a thing. “ ‘
Shame and guilt welcomed themselves into his heart, remembering every twist and turn to the door from years of residence.
‘ You are a freakin’ idiot. ‘
Leo placed the tweezers down onto the rolling table beside him, and reached to open one of the drawers in the cabinet. As his hand reached it’s target he froze.
‘ Don’t scare her.. Be gentle. ’
He kept his hand inside the rim of the cabinet drawer, just out of Lotus’ sight.
He channeled every fiber of his ‘ good big brother voice ‘ to help calm her down.
“ Ok, Lotus.. I’m going to stitch the wound now. It will only take maybe two minutes. Three or four stitches max. “
Leo reassuringly patted Lotus’ knee to ensure her that the worst is over. Hopefully.
Lotus kept her focus on Leo’s eyes.
Any time a new doctor or nurse came into her cell, ( It certainly wasn’t a bedroom ), she learned that by studying the eyes of the person - how they moved, what they focused on, if they EVER made eye contact with her -  she could sense if they were being honest or if they were lying through their teeth.
This technique helped her gauge if procedures actually would " sting a little ", or if she needed to brace herself and ready her mind and body for something more.. agonizing.
Leo’s eyes shone with care and gentleness.
But his lack of eye contact, as well as how his pupils stayed constricted and tight, told her there was something he wasn’t telling her.
“.. The thing is.. “
‘  THERE IT IS. ‘ Lotus thought.
“.. in order for you to not feel it, I’ll need to numb the area.. again. “
Lotus inched away from Leo, propping herself up with her elbows on the surgical table.
“ Your medicine doesn’t work. “ Lotus bluntly stated with her voice lowering in volume nearly to a whisper. “ It still hurt. Is still HURTS. “ She winced as she accidentally moved her left leg.
Leo paused.
She was right.
It didn’t work.
The numbing wore off.
Shame and guilt slithered around his heart tempting him to give up.
‘ “ Clearly you’re not meant to have this kind of responsibility. “ ‘ They whispered. ‘ “ You’re just a scared child who has no idea what they’re doing. “ ‘
‘ “ You’re weak. “ ‘
‘ “ You’re not wise enough. “ ‘
‘ “ HER PAIN IS YOUR FAULT.
 JUST LIKE RAPHAEL. “ ‘
Leo shook his head and blinked away tears as he tried his very best to keep his insecurities at bay.
“ Lotus.. I’m.. I’m sorry I hurt you..”  Leo’s hand pulled away from the drawer, letting go of the package of syringes, and rose to his face to wipe away his tears. His voice broke with every word, nearly choking on the last. “ .. I’m sorry I didn’t do this right..”
Lotus cocked her head the slightest bit, studying every minute detail of Leo’s face. Her eyes softened, and her tenseness diminished as she lowered her shoulders and went back to being flat on the surgical table.
‘ He’s telling the truth.. ‘
She decided, against her better judgment, to try to help calm Leo down.
She gave Don’s technique a shot.
“ You’re new at this aren’t you? “ Lotus asked.
She didn’t mean to have it come out so..heartless, but she was doing the best she could.
Leo turned his wet face away from Lotus, and nodded his closed fist up and down in answer.
( ASL for “ Yes.” )
Lotus scoured her brain for anything else she could use in the situation. Her clear lack of experience in comforting someone didn’t help the slightest bit.
‘ Ok that didn’t work.. He’s still upset.. Ok uhhh let’s try this..’
“ Ok. You’re not experienced. Big whoop. “
‘- “BIG WHOOP”- WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?!?!? OK TRY AGAIN-'
“.. I- I mean- um.. Uhh I can um.. I can see you’re trying your best..? “
‘ YEAH- THAT’S IT- TRY TO COMPLIMENT WITH A QUESTION MARK AT THE END GREAT WORK- ‘
Leo turned his face back to Lotus, wet smears beginning to dry on his cheeks.
He smiled a little.
“ Thanks, Lotus.. “ He dryly whispered.
“ I think you broke your voice. “ Lotus said, IMMEDIATELY regretting her bluntness and lack of understanding of how comforting works. She turned her face away, internally screaming at the top of her lungs.
‘ THIS ISN’T WORKINGGG!!!! WHY AM I SO BAD AT THISSSS..”
Leo simply chuckled, finding it funny of how similar Lotus was to Raphael when he was her age.
Then he realized another obvious question he should've asked her.
“ Lotus, “ Leo spoke up, trying very hard not to have a voice crack that would compete against any during his younger teen years,
“ .. How old are you? If you don’t mind me asking? “
Lotus paused, both in surprise and in contemplation.
She kept her face turned away from Leo’s.
“... I.. don’t know. “
Leo’s mouth dropped, but he closed it as soon as he felt the smallest bit of saliva pooling on his lip.
“ The doctors didn’t tell me.. And… there was no window in my cell. “
Lotus didn’t realize until this point how embarrassing it was to not know her own age; Another part of herself that was a complete mystery.
Leo leaned over and carefully placed his hand on her shoulder. She flinched at first, then relaxed her muscles.
Now that Leo was in contact with her, he could sense the vibrations of her body shaking again. But the root of this wasn't due to any physical pain.
“ I’m guessing you didn’t celebrate birthdays at the lab, did you?.. “
Lotus slowly nodded her head back and forth.
“ That’s ok. I bet Don could figure it out! He’s really smart, and I’m sure he could help. “
Lotus turned her head back to Leo with tears filling her eye lids to the brim.
“ Really? “ She spoke in a whispered tone, with the tears now being let free to flow down her face.
Leo nodded as a tiny smile grew on his face.
But then he jolted as the sensation of warm blood splashed onto one of his feet.
That's it for this chapter! :)
Leo's been having a really rough day.. But luckily, Lotus' attempt at comforting him made him smile. :) We'll call that a win.
Does anyone have any funny stories ( or sweet stories ) about needing to comfort a friend or family member? Would you say you're gifted at the art of comforting someone? ;) Or do you fail in nearly every conceivable way like Lotus? ;)
Hope you enjoyed!
To God be the glory!

Cardiothoracic Surgeons In Singapore
Tumblr media
Cardiothoracic surgeons in Singapore work to an extremely high standard, as you would hope from this level of surgery. Cardiothoracic surgeons specialise in surgery on the heart, lungs, and other thoracic organs found within your chest.
Introduction To Cardiothoracic Surgeons
Cardiothoracic surgery covers a broad range of operations and procedures. However, a simple way to remember it is that a cardiothoracic surgeon combines two specialties at once. Cardiac surgery, which is focused on your heart and thoracic surgery which is surgery on chest organs. As such, cardiothoracic surgeons have to be highly skilled in their area and you want to ensure you have the best doctor possible. Your cardiologist will assess you first and if you need cardiothoracic surgery, they will refer you to one.
What Do Cardiothoracic Surgeons In Singapore Do?
Cardiothoracic surgeons treat a wide range of conditions and diseases that range from complicated to highly serious.
Lung diseases such as lung cancer
Heart diseases such as arrhythmia, heart failure, heart valve diseases, coronary artery diseases, atherosclerosis, heart defects, left ventricular aneurysms and heart attacks
Aortic dissections
Thoracic aortic aneurysms
Marfan syndrome
Pectus excavatum
Mediastinal tumours
Thoracic trauma
Tracheal stenosis
Tracheobronchial cancer
Furthermore, cardiothoracic surgeons monitor their patients in intensive care following surgery. Despite cardiothoracic surgery being relatively safe, it is still crucial that your doctor prepare for possible side effects or complications that may arise.
What Are The Types Of Surgeries Performed By Cardiothoracic Surgeons?
Given that there are a number of conditions and situations that cardiothoracic surgeons must treat, they offer a wide range of procedures and operations. Some are more complicated than others, but an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon will be capable of providing the best treatment possible for you.
Heart surgeries (including open heart surgery and minimally invasive operations)
Coronary artery bypass grafts
Minimally invasive endoscopic coronary artery bypass surgeries
Valve repair and replacements
Aortic aneurysm repairs
Implantation of ventricular assist devices
Pacemaker implantations
Maze procedures
Heart transplantations
Heart-lung transplantations
Left ventricle restoration
Congenital heart surgeries
Radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation
Lung surgeries
Lung cancer surgeries including limited resection for lung cancer, segmentectomy, sleeve resection, thoracoscopic resection, lobectomy, robotic lingulectomy, and thoracoscopic segmentectomy
Lung transplantation
Lung volume reduction surgery
Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy
Heart-lung transplantation
Thoracic surgeries
Transcervical thymectomy
Oesophagal cancer surgery
Laparoscopic oesophagus repair
Airway stent placement
Tracheal resection
Bronchoplasty
Video-assisted thoracic surgery
Ravitch procedures
Bronchial thermoplasty
Qualifications Of Cardiothoracic Surgeons In Singapore
With the expertise and knowledge required for a cardiothoracic surgeon, you can expect them to be highly trained and professional. Following the completion of 5 years at medical school with one year of housemanship, doctors will then undergo a minimum of 6 years residency programme and longer to finally become a cardiothoracic surgeon.
The difficulty of this path, the cost and time investments all contribute towards ensuring that cardiothoracic surgeons are at the very top of their field. When choosing a cardiothoracic surgeon in Singapore you can rest assured that they are not only completely capable of handling your treatment, but also that they have the dedication to see it through.
Benefits Of Choosing A Qualified Cardiothoracic Surgeon In Singapore
Within Singapore there are a number of highly qualified cardiothoracic surgeons. As we discussed earlier, just to achieve that title is to undergo over 10 years of training and experience. Acknowledging this, it’s important to then choose a surgeon that you trust. To begin with, research your options for surgeons in Singapore and try to learn more about the individual you will eventually choose. Hello, prior anatomy assistant here. The article is horrifically disrespectful, describing the process as "unpleasant" and focusing solely on fat bodies. Those doctors should be removed from lab practice and not be fielding anatomical study if it grosses them out for any reason. Can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Those doctors blame the dead persons/patients for their personal struggle with gross anatomy and they are wrong to do so. It makes me furious that medicine is generally ableist, sexist, racist, and fatphobic among other phobias- many things to improve... Please advocate for yourself as well as seeking care from those Drs who respect YOU and your life and time.
Any of this information below is not in disregard of medical issues with fatphobia etc. I just have experience in a setting similar to the article which I hope helps.
I was working just two months ago at a medical school with cadaveric donor anatomy courses, taking care of the donors as well as making sure students/faculty have their needs/safety met. I became sensitive to the chemicals and have since gone on to work instead at a crematorium, but I did this for three years with faculty/students from Doctoral Osteopathy, Physician Assistance, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dental, and Dual Enrollment (highschoolers learning from donors dissected by the med students). As the anatomy assistant it was part of my and faculty's job to make the point to students verbally and by action/behavior of treating all decedents as their first patient. We ask them to behave as if they were the doctor for their grandparents, to think what they would not want a doctor to do or say about their "grandmamapapa" to their face about their body and further to not discuss patients/donors beyond lab facilities for privacy and basic decency. Then we instruct them in dissecting donors with that respect in mind, that's grandmamapapa's final request after all.
I received donors of various heights, weights, ethnic background, and was often very impressed by the students and faculty alike as they found most all aspects of the course interesting/fulfilling as they showcased the variety of human anatomy. Frightened awe at enlarged organs, sadness at tumors clots and shriveled lungs, soft fascination with hip/knee implants valves and pacemakers.
Students study all aspects of anatomy including superficial structure throughout and within the fatty dermal layer, however most adipose (fat) tissue is removed to unveil the greater number of structures beneath/within. I am unsure how adipose tissue is covered in their courses beyond lab, it is a wonderfully unique cell type I would often point out as forming paquetes versus striated muscle tissue beneath to the new students seeing it the first time in such a way. All removed tissues were placed into identifying bags and stored until being replaced into the body bag of their identified donor once the donor retires to cremation so that as much of them that came into the program is then returned to loved ones receiving cremains.
Usually the largest removal of adipose tissue occurs during the first-second week of lab, not because it takes this much time but because students are having safety orientation day one, understanding the lab environment and being around a dead body for 2-4 hours at a time inspecting external structures day 2-3, and thats week one. Week two begins dissection with respect for the dead in mind and is often skinning and cleaning fat from the back muscles. This when removal of fats takes the most time due to many important questions: how to do perform dissection (loading scalpel, cutting depth, skinning angles/direction), what is this versus that, why is this a certain color etc as well as being the largest surface area. Legs and arms are skinned in stages, also while donors are prone, at the back, and continued once the donor is supine, front facing. Until complete removal the skin remains as flaps simply folded away from underlying structures. The next largest immediate removal of adipose is from the chest/pectoral region, further on in coursework and so most students have acclimated well and complete it quite quickly, an hour or less to get to the rest. Fat of the belly is left attatched for the duration of dissection as skin flaps to open/close protecting the organs from dessication/mold in much the same way as the metal donor table lids function. All exposed/skinned regions of the body are wet down with dilute embalming solution repeatedly during study/class hours and then kept under a similarly wetted sheet while not in use to practice privacy and prevent drying/decomp/mold. Faces and secondary sex characteristics are covered with separate barriers beneath the sheet also for privacy of donors (as well as for many persons faculty/student alike having mental struggles with faces).
Weight limits for the ADP (at least the one I was part of) are set 250lb before embalming (fluid weight brings some donors in at around 400lbs). The 250lb limit is set for embalming purposes. Since fats are hydrophobic they prevent absorption of embalming chemical, while muscles are hydrophilic in comparison. A higher ratio of fat:muscle can lead to more rapid decomposition due to poor embalming which then potentially leads to the donor becoming unviable for study or dissection. Despite curing for a month prior to dissection, further embalming procedures (such as on the glutes and skull cavity/brain) and decomp being "fought" continuously while in the care of the lab, preventing decomp is best done at the first embalming on pre-registered donors - ones received immediately at death into the program and not left waiting while decomposing as an unregistered or at-need donor may experience - onset of decomposition follows immediately after death. I maintained each donor fighting decomposition, mold, and drying for an average of two years of care/cost per individual donor.
Metal donor tables and tarp-adjacent body bags (where the donors lay and stay during dissection) are approx. 7ft×3ft. The tables have an inset/inlay of about 2.5 inches deep and 6.5ft x 2.75ft. There are hinged lids that when closed are pentagonal - the upright sides about 5 inches and the point where the lids meet in the middle about 7 inches from the table top, giving around 8 inches at the sides for arms mainly and 10 inches for high points like head/chest/feet. 3D objects such as human bodies must close into the bag (flat, but flexes around well due to material) and the table's lids to prevent environmental factors like spores (mold) or dessication (drying, mummification). There are other table types, such as downdraft, but I do not have experience working with them or their measurements.
Being fat is not a problem with body donation or medical study, some people are just not respectful, kind, or decent.
The reason fat cadavers are not accepted for medical programmes is that you need to cut through every layer of fat carefully. Which takes time, and lab sessions are inherentely limited in that. It's better for med students to spend that time looking at what organs actually look like in bodies. This isn't fatphobia, it's just .. the way dissecting bodies works? In the same way surgeries on fat people take longer because there's just physically more tissue. The alternative would be to force the med students who get fatter cadavers to do more lab sessions at weird times outside of the usual schedules. Or force them to stay over the holidays. Or not let them get enough time to do the lab work they need to. Which imo would be a bit fucked up especially when med school is already so difficult and time-consuming.
It’s fatphobia. Fat bodies absolutely need to be studied. To ignore an entire demographic of oppressed individuals in the medical field for the sake of convenience(?!) is violence. Did you even read the article? They called working on fat cadavers “unpleasant.” It’s fatphobia and it’s unacceptable.

Mindful Eating: Boost Digestion and Nutrient Absorption After Implant Surgery by Dental Professionals such as Dr. Golpa
Dental implant surgery marks a significant milestone in one’s journey toward improved oral health and function. Following the procedure, patients often face a period of adjustment, not only concerning the healing of the implant site but also regarding their eating habits. Mindful eating plays a critical role during the recovery phase, as it helps in enhancing digestion and ensuring optimal nutrient absorption. By adopting a conscious approach to food choices and consumption, patients can facilitate the healing process and maximize the benefits of their dental implants.
Understanding the implications of mindful eating after implant surgery is essential for patients to effectively navigate their post-operative period. This involves selecting appropriate foods, maintaining proper eating habits, and being aware of how these practices impact recovery. As patients transition to solid foods and gradually reintroduce their dietary preferences, they must prioritize their overall well-being. In this blog, we will explore essential aftercare tips, emphasizing the importance of food selection, portion control, hydration, nutritional balance, chewing techniques, and the role of follow-up care.
Selecting Soft, Nutrient-Rich Foods
In the immediate aftermath of dental implant surgery, patients should prioritize soft foods that are easy to chew and digest as emphasized by dentists like Dr. Golpa. Foods such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, smoothies, and pureed soups are excellent options that minimize discomfort and protect the implant site. Choosing nutrient-dense options ensures that the body receives essential vitamins and minerals, which are critical for healing. For instance, incorporating foods rich in vitamin C, such as smoothies made with fruits like strawberries and oranges, can support tissue repair.
Additionally, patients should avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that could disrupt the healing process or damage the implant. Foods like nuts, chips, and chewy candies can exert unnecessary pressure on the surgical site. Instead, focusing on a diet that includes tender vegetables, soft grains, and easily digestible proteins will help maintain a balanced intake while supporting recovery.
Practicing Portion Control
Mindful eating also involves being aware of portion sizes. After surgery, patients may experience a decreased appetite or altered taste sensations, which can affect their food intake. To avoid overeating or feeling overly full, patients should listen to their bodies and consume smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day. This approach not only aids digestion but also helps maintain energy levels.
Moreover, eating smaller portions allows for a gradual introduction of solid foods without overwhelming the digestive system. Dental professionals such as Dr. Golpa mention that by spacing meals and snacks appropriately, patients can ensure a steady intake of nutrients, promoting better healing and overall well-being. Using smaller plates and bowls can also be a helpful strategy to encourage moderation and prevent the temptation to overindulge.
Staying Hydrated
Hydration is a crucial component of recovery after dental implant surgery. Drinking enough fluids aids digestion, helps transport nutrients, and supports the healing process. Patients should prioritize water intake, aiming for at least eight glasses a day, while avoiding sugary beverages that can lead to inflammation and hinder recovery. Herbal teas and broths can also be beneficial, providing warmth and comfort during the healing phase.
In addition to focusing on hydration, it is essential for patients to avoid alcohol and caffeine in the initial recovery period. Both substances can dehydrate the body and impede the healing process. Instead, opting for hydrating options can create a supportive environment for optimal recovery as highlighted by dentists including Dr. Golpa, ultimately enhancing nutrient absorption and overall well-being.
Ensuring Nutritional Balance
After dental implant surgery, it is vital to maintain a balanced diet that encompasses all essential nutrients. Patients should focus on incorporating a variety of food groups, including lean proteins, healthy fats, whole grains, and fruits and vegetables. For example, soft-cooked fish or chicken can provide necessary protein without being tough on the implant site, while avocados and nut butters offer healthy fats that support healing.
Moreover, attention should be given to micronutrients that are particularly important for recovery, such as zinc and vitamin D as underscored by dental professionals like Dr. Golpa. Foods like leafy greens, nuts, and fortified cereals can help achieve this balance. By ensuring a diverse diet, patients not only meet their nutritional needs but also boost their immune system, further supporting the healing process. Dr. Mike Golpa
Adopting Proper Chewing Techniques
As patients transition to solid foods, adopting proper chewing techniques is essential for avoiding strain on the surgical site. Encouraging a slow and mindful approach to eating will allow for thorough chewing, which aids in the digestion process. Chewing food adequately helps break it down into smaller pieces, making it easier for the digestive system to absorb nutrients.
In addition, patients should be mindful of how they position their food while chewing. Using the opposite side of the mouth from the implant site can prevent discomfort and protect the healing area. This mindful chewing practice ensures that the surgical site remains undisturbed while allowing patients to enjoy a variety of foods as they recover.
Monitoring Progress and Follow-Up Care
Finally, monitoring progress throughout the recovery phase is essential for ensuring the success of the dental implant. Patients should remain vigilant about any changes in their oral health or digestive comfort and report concerns to their dental professionals. Regular follow-up appointments allow for professional assessments of healing and offer an opportunity to discuss dietary adjustments as needed.
During these appointments, dentists such as Dr. Golpa can provide personalized recommendations based on each patient’s specific needs and progress. This collaborative approach empowers patients to take an active role in their recovery while ensuring they receive the guidance necessary for optimal healing. Acknowledging and responding to feedback from healthcare providers can help patients maintain healthy eating habits and support their overall well-being.
Mindful eating plays a pivotal role in enhancing digestion and nutrient absorption after dental implant surgery. By selecting soft, nutrient-rich foods, practicing portion control, staying hydrated, ensuring nutritional balance, adopting proper chewing techniques, and actively monitoring progress, patients can create a supportive environment for healing.
