They purposly had another child through surrogate while she was facing aggressive cancer?
On September 22, Olivia Munn and John Mulaney, the parents of Malcolm, who is two years old, announced on Instagram that they had welcomed a girl through the process of gestational surrogacy.
"Méi June Mulaney came into the world on September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon," Munn, who is 44 years old, stated in the description of the post, which featured an image of her holding Méi, which means plum in Chinese, while she sat on Mulaney's lap.
She was unable to carry Méi herself, and initially, navigating surrogacy stirred up "profound emotions," she added in the post. The former star of The Newsroom, who announced in March that she had been diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer the previous year, was unable to deliver Méi herself.

Look at that: it works!
What works you ask?
Cutting an hour short from my work day and setting up this little writing space in the spare room. The real trick though? Actually doing it right away and not first putting away this and cleaning that.
The process is as follows: Come home, make a cup of tea, sit down at the cutest keyboard and the cheap tablet and write the next sentence.
That's the only way how it works.
#continuing the daily thing#am writing#writeblr#the process#I should patent this and write a book about it and become filthy rich!#just kidding

Dodeca Earth Fact of the Day: Horses are a nearly extinct species, passionately sought out by biotech companies to patent and clone their dna build.
Meanwhile, there have been others attempting to replicate the species via biobuilding their own, but most have some odd Quirk that far seperates them from what a horse would be. Many of them have horns, or wings, or both, or some other weird addition- no one can seem to get them right. These bizarre rejected attempts populate the world alongside the donkeys that are plentiful in leu of horse scarcity.
#as a reminder my character world has a LOT of bioengeneering and bioengeneering companies#who yes straight up patent or copyright entire species so no one else can make them#its a complocated process but they can even sort of poison their dna so that#if some company grabs ahold of their copyright species and borrows some dna to clone it#it wont work and the cells just die before they take form#they either need a key ie some chemical concoction only known to the parent company that can break that poison#or. they establish the dna poison after a certain age and clone the unpoisoned zygotes indefinetly while keeping them under lock and key#its a complicated process. just understand that this is capitalism but if it had cloning and bioengeneering#oc lore#ofotw#ill do a general world theme this week. about dodeca and such

whenever i start a new project, i find myself going on a little journey across the internet looking for advice on starting new projects. i know how to do it, but i'm always curious about other people's ideas. most of the stuff i read is aimed at new creators who don't know how to get things off the ground at all.
one thing that strikes me about it is that there isn't really any consensus about how to start something, and i think that's really great! there's a million ways to approach a problem, and (short of solutions which harm or exploit others) none of them are wrong if they're the one that's working best for you.
still, a significant number of the articles i read position themselves as having The Answer for how to make a thing. i think a lot of people sorta feel they have to frame their advice like this in order to give the impression that they know what they're talking about.
sometimes as i'm reading i get gripped with a sense of panic about it, a feeling of 'oh no i'm doing things WRONG', or concern that two ideas about new approaches which I've found would be interesting to try cannot be applied at the same time to the same project.
but! advice between one article and the next isn't necessarily going to carry over or map on perfectly. many pieces of advice about starting projects is going to be contradictory based on your sources. it makes me wonder how many people get caught in a loop of trying to take ALL the advice, even when it would be impossible to do so.
sometimes ripping out your whole process and starting from the ground up is the best thing you can do, creatively, but in many circumstances, taking the pieces of advice which will most meaningfully help you redirect your existing skills whilst leaving behind the things that don't serve you? that's also a valid and worthwhile thing to do!
drawing on the knowledge and experience of others is an important practice whatever stage you're at in your life as a creator of things. learning new methods and techniques can help you develop your own practice and sharing knowledge is incredibly important. just remember that there are many ways to solve the same problem, and part of what makes your creations unique are your approaches as an individual. it is impossible to take all of the advice! do continue to seek it out, and also know that you're not disrespecting it by deciding it's not something which will help.
above all, keep creating stuff!
--- Eira xxx
#eira speaks#yeah idk this has been on my mind a lot whilst i'm setting up New Thing#i sometimes start to panic that i'm ignoring sound advice#i have a bit of a tendency to read any online criticism of any artistic process as potentially applicable to my processes#even when it just patently would not apply#so this is a thing which has occurred to me on several occasions#idk i just wanted to talk about it in case there are other anxious creators like me who get stuck with this feeling#of like 'oh no i have to take ALL THE ADVICE but it is IMPOSSIBLE' like yeah no it is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE#you're not failing yourself by being incapable of getting contradictory advice to work cohesively together lmao#you're not disregarding criticism by not finding it to be particularly helpful in shaping a direction for you to move forward

had a dream that wang zhuocheng and meng ziyi were starring in a new show together and i wasn't watching it but then i found out somehow that it was based on a true story, specifically a true story that happened to my stepdad, like it was about some crazy business scheme he had gotten himself embroiled in thirty years ago or something, and i was DYING to come on here and talk about it because no one i know in real life follows the careers of these two chinese actors and i apparently had a bunch of insider information about the story it was based on, but i couldn't say anything about all that without revealing my identity, so i just had to sit here reading people's bad takes and suffering IN SILENCE. like where did all that come from. my stepdad is a garbageman.
#though i would not put it past him to become embroiled in a crazy business scheme#he did start his own company at one point. i got to name the product he patented <3 i also created a slogan. i was like 10#the beginning and end of my career in the fast-paced world of industrial equipment marketing#anyway why those two in particular? does my subconscious want me to think about chengqing more#need to schedule in some time in my day to Think About Chengqing. to appease the ol' subconscious#dreams#wang zhuocheng#meng ziyi#my posts#omg edited to change 'garbage man' to 'garbageman' so that it doesn't look like i'm calling my stepdad a man who is garbage.#i am referring to his profession in the waste retrieval and processing industry aldkfasdladf

#tomorrow is the day the measurements start. the start of my 40+ days of torment. but idk im glad its finally here#i dont have to dread it anymore. hopefully its the last time i have to do these type of measurements#i was talking to my boss yesterday and she was like: oh last timr we were out i realized this might be ur last time doing lpi for thr rest#of ur life. and i was like god i hope so. bc thats a process where i crawl across the ground for 50m per transect and identify all the#plants and soil cover and for the life of me i cant fucking remember plant codes. i hate it bc i basically have to talk for like 3hrs and#have someone standing over my shoulder recording me and all the while my brain is screaminf at me bc field work doesnt count as real work#in my stupid brain. so yea ill do lpi and soil stability as benign torment in purgatory#but anyway. im hesitantly optimistic abt the measurements i have to take bc im going to try my best to make it ok bc i have school#interviews looming and i have to pretend im hanging on by more than a single thread ya kno#so we r going to b careful abt it. well at least well see how long it lasts. i also have tk find the time to read a bunch before interviews#while my brain is completely fried idk how. and do other lab stuff. sigh...#idk im probably going to take measurements all the way thru sunday and then monday see if i can fill out patent intake info with a psy#psychiatrist. and hope they take my insurance. i called and checked for providers and they were the only one in the area so shoulf b ok but#ya kno. god im barely a functional person. like the fact that i have to drive 8min down the road is very nearly enough for me to say fuck#it. id rather suffer forever. i just hate driving so much :-P#i just wish i could focus enough to make words make sense and justify the time i spend to learn things. agh#lmao im such an anxious person. a lab mate had a birthday today and my boss and a fellow lab member surprised her with a cake#and im v worried abt when my birthday happens. it wasnt so bad last time bc another birthday was also that week so the focus was off me a#lil but with my boss leaving this school i was like. yes. i escape the surprise gathering. but probably not. same for when i leave#genuinely i do not want a gathering. i just feel like im waiting for them to end. not that i dont like my lab mates but idk it feels so#artificial. and i feel awkward bc i never make eye contact or look at anyone in a way i think is typical bc i see ppl look at me#like turn their head to see my reaction to something and i just like fundamentally do not understand that impulse#whatever. what i want for my birthday or going away is to not attend the gathering. make it more like a wake lol#but i kno that wont happen. last year my boss asked whst i wanted and i said nothing and she said that wasnt allowed#im just so neurotic that if u try to do anything for me itll prob just upset me. but idk ppl like to give presents and stuff#and sometimes things arent all abt me. so i just gotta accept it and go cry abt it later#but thats like 3 months away so i dont kno why im so stressed abt it now. I've got more pressing things to stress abt#unrelated

I feel like for drug patents, they should decrease the time you have exclusivity, but also have some sort of maximum profit threshold, where they have like 3 years or 2.5 profit:investment ratio or something like that, I don’t know what the numbers should be, whichever comes first. I don’t think the profit thing would be too effective because there would be tons of money manipulation going on and lawsuits to argue about it, but if a drug were so useful that they make such a profit, they would get their money’s worth from it and it also allows generics to reach the market faster for more necessary drugs
#I also think they should be required to describe the synthesis process in the patent as well so generics don’t require any trial and error#they can go straight into production

Closing the Gender Gap in Patents Across Latin America.
Just over a year ago, we formed the Global Intellectual Property Alliance to build a world in which intellectual property enables all people to improve their lives and create a more prosperous and sustainable future.
GLIPA is now working in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America. Their mission is to attract more and diverse group of users to the intellectual property system. In line with these objectives, in 2023, the GLIPA Latin America (LATAM) chapter and the Mexican think tank, CAIINNO began working to get a clearer view of the participation levels of women in the IP system, specifically in the field of patenting in Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.
The gender gap in IP is a global problem is not confined to any single country or region; it is a global phenomenon. A recent study by WIPO, which offers an international comparison of the gender gap in global patenting between 1999 and 2020, finds that women participated in just 23% of all patent applications, representing 13% of the inventors listed, in that period. According to the study, if current trends continue, gender parity in patenting in Latin America will only be achieved in 2068, seven years later than the current global gender parity forecast of 2061. In Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico, GLIPA and CAIINNOʼs work offers greater clarity on the role that women play in the invention process in those countries. The data also considers regional and communal levels.
From 2017 to 2022 the use of the patent system by both men and the already small number of women inventors obtaining patents fell in Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Interestingly, the rate of patenting by mixed teams shows a significant increase in womenʼs participation. While this trend is promising, there is still a sizeable gender gap in the patent system. This is a gap that we need to narrow. If current trends continue, gender parity in patenting in Latin America will only be achieved in 2068, seven years later than the current global gender parity forecast of 2061
Through its IP education and awareness programs, like this training event at the University of San Andrés in Buenos Aires, Argentina, GLIPA is drawing new users to the IP system and equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to use IP rights effectively
The GLIPA/CAIINNO study highlights four key actions to help Latin American countries reduce the gender gap in patenting:
Closer collaboration with organizations like WIPO to support efforts to overcome blocks and standardize the collection of IP data, especially with respect to gender, from IP offices around the world.
Better and easier access to these data will help to show a clear picture of how the IP system is being used around the world and by whom. It will also help ensure the development and implementation of effective policies and strategies to encourage greater participation in the IP system by more diverse groups, including women.
Reaching out to women inventors and actively encouraging them to engage with the IP system is crucial. This requires close collaboration among all those who influence the IP landscape, including government, business associations, civil societies such as CAIINNO and GLIPA, local innovators and others.
We also need to rethink IP education. This involves moving beyond seeing IP exclusively as a technical legal field, and broadening our approach to ensure IP is seen as a practical toolkit for inventors, creators and entrepreneurs to translate their ideas into thriving businesses.
