I really wish we knew more about Patch, specifically how everyone who’s NOT the Rose-Xiao Long-Branwen family lives there.

Because while we’ve seen roughly how they live, I suspect it’s not fully the norm. They’re mostly isolated, in a pretty quiet area, and with notably no defense against Grimm — which is fine for them since they’re a family of Huntsmen.

But even if Patch is home to Signal Academy, I doubt that everyone there has combat training. That’s just not a sustainable way for a town to be. More likely, there’s natural defense as there is in every kingdom plus some construction, and that buys time and advantages for the Huntsmen they do have — which might be more abundant than in some places, but still won’t be universal. We see plenty of towns like that in Mistral.

But I also wonder about whatever town Patch has, given that one girl on a video call on the CCT in Volume 2 was heard saying:

“Hey mom, how are things back in Signal?”

Now, “at Signal” would make me assume the mom of this random background character is a teacher. “In Signal” implies a town — and that it’s where most people live. I think the Rose-Xiao Longs claiming to be from Patch means they’re pretty isolated from whatever the actual town is.

Signal is both the combat school and the main settlement, kind of like some college towns, while Patch is the island itself. And Ruby and Yang claim they’re from Patch and not Signal because their area is comparatively pretty isolated.

Don't know the order of all these but anyway, headcanon and idea time

Maria, in her 70-90 years of life has not once paid her taxes.

Tai teaches a hand-to-hand class, Qrow used to teach a weapons construction class.

Salem has never once rolled out of bed, she has without fail for over a thousand years levitated from her mattress.

Weiss is always the last person to wake up, Ruby is the first but usually wakes Blake up by making some random noise while getting ready. Yang wakes up at any point during this.

Kali is like 2-7 years older than Ghira. I just don’t think they’re the same age and I think he’s younger.

Oscar was homeschooled.

Qrow, Ruby and Yang can’t stop making weed brownies while they were at the house in Mistral and Oscar keeps almost accidentally eating them.

He’s only stopped by Jaune, who after an unfortunate accident during their Beacon days ended up high during a history test and fucking passed it with flying colors.

Weiss spends like three weeks begging them to stop because the kitchen smells like marijuana (she refuses to call it anything else). After days of bargaining they finally come to the agreement to invest heavily in Remnant febreze and only smoke by windows or outdoors too. Despite that the smell will never leave unless Salem succeeds in ending the world.

running out of time. that's the underlying feeling i get from the epilogue; the heroes don't have the luxury of waiting for their enemy to make the first move.

the merge is happening faster and faster; oscar's eyes keep flashing green, he collapses to the ground, ren can tell he's not being himself lately... if they intend to save oscar from the merge, they're running out of time, and their options are limited.

the most obvious choice would be to fulfill ozma's mission, but a) that's easier said than done, and b) there's no guarantee ozma will pass on the moment he fulfills his goal given by the god of light, stopping the merge in an instant.

still, they've got to do something.

then there's vale; after atlas, salem arrived and razed the city so that there's nothing left. my first instinct for her reasoning was to find the crown any means necessary, but there's another possibility:

"time isn't on your side, james. it's always been on mine. the people of atlas have suffered enough. surrender the staff and the lamp to me, and they needn't suffer any further. [...] simply accept the futility of your situation... and this can all be over."

hiding the relics within the academies was to have them protected by huntsmen and huntresses—most in training, few not—at all times; these are the people who have, at least to some extent, agreed to fight and protect the kingdoms from grimm.

salem wants the crown, her victory lies in it; torturing oscar didn't get the desired results, and now the lamp is out of questions.

what to do next, then, to force ozpin's hand to reveal its location?

after the fall of beacon, the people of vale suffered. maybe they had suffered enough... but oz didn't surrender the crown's location, and now they've suffered more.

how long will ozpin keep the crown's location secret? can he think of it as justified, now that salem has escalated far beyond what the fall originally was, with vale gone and many civilians potentially dead? how horrified would he have been, hearing the news in the first place?

time has always been on salem's side. it is most definitely not on oscar's side. something needs to happen, something needs to change.

the heroes are going to have to act in some way; there's no time to wait, anymore.

I'm also choosing to believe that Blake was born in Mistral or Mistral-adjacent.

This way, we can say each member of Team RWBY represents a different major nation on Remnant.
