An anxious sigh escapes you as you stand idly outside the cafe, peering inside through the mosaicked windows. It was jam-packed, people pushing past each other and snake-like queues forming throughout the space. You wriggle your phone out of your coat pocket and glance at the message that your friend, Madison, had sent in a half hour ago.

She was expecting, and you went by whenever you could to help her out after her asshole of a boyfriend left.

Normally, you wouldn’t bother. You hated crowded places, and Beanie’s was the definition of crowded – an old-style cafe which had blown up overnight because of its scrumptious donuts and vintage aesthetic. But who were you to deny the cravings of the woman bearing your goddaughter?

You take a deep breath and push the creaky wooden door open, cringing at how the bell rang and signalled the whole cafe to your presence. But no one so much as looked up, busy trying to buy or sell food, or find a table.

You push your way through the sea of people, joining the queue in front of the counter. It was long, you noted, and would probably take another fifteen minutes or so until it was your turn to place an order. You fish out your crumpled book from your bag and turn it to the page you had stopped on yesterday. It was the second classic of the term – Pride and Prejudice. Taking literature as a major meant you spent more time reading than anything else, but you weren’t complaining.

As you read, you scribbled down plot points to take note of and quotes which meant something worth writing about. Your eyes stayed glued to the page, trying to work out hidden meanings and flowery language. Once you were back home, you’d have to compile all your analysis onto that worksheet Professor Ragnarsson had given out, write the 10-page long review, and then –

“Hey! Shut the damn book and order, will you?”

Your heart jumps in your chest at the sudden harsh tone. You close your book and whip your head around to see a middle-aged man glaring at you before peering down at his watch. “There’s a long queue, and we don’t have all day.”

The heat rushes to your cheeks as you open your mouth to apologise – but before you can say anything, you hear an oddly soothing voice from behind you. “Hey, don’t be a jerk. She didn’t know the counter was open.”

You glance back towards the counter, and you swear your heart stopped beating for a second. Angelic was an understatement to describe the man standing in front of you, tall and lanky and absolutely fucking beautiful.

His chestnut brown hair perfectly framed his pale face, eyebrows furrowed in annoyance as he glanced at the rude customer behind you. There were pinkish scars tracing from above his eyebrows to right below his lips, but they looked golden under the orange light – he looked like some kind of heavenly being.

When his eyes dart back to you, his expression instantly softened, lips tilting upwards in a smile. You thought you would melt into a puddle right there and then just by gazing into his warm, honeyed eyes. “Hi, gorgeous. What can I get you?”

You blink, your mouth involuntarily falling open slightly. Gorgeous? Was he talking to you? Maybe he was referring to the man behind you.

His smile widens, and that does absolutely nothing to calm the feeling of your heart bouncing around in your stomach. “It’s okay if you can’t choose just yet, I know the number of options can be…” he chuckles, “overwhelming. Take all the time you need to decide.”

Oh my god, you thought. His laugh sounded musical, like the tender feeling of being enveloped in a warm embrace. You’d put it on a record player and play it on loop for hours if you could.

“Hurry the fuck up –”

“One more word from you and you won’t be getting your coffee today, buddy,” the godly-looking barista snapped in a slightly louder tone at the man behind you, face contorted in irritation.

You hear silent cursing behind you, a twinge of embarrassment turning you red. You quickly glance back up. “Sorry, hi, hello. I’ll um… I…” the words were on the tip of your tongue, but seemed to dissolve when he glanced at you with those agonisingly pretty eyes and kind smile.

Snap out of it, you internally curse as you open your mouth again. “I’ll get three peanut butter-jelly donuts, and four chocolate donuts.”

“Okay. Which chocolate ones?” he asks, tapping his tongs against the display dome with stacks of donuts. There really were a lot of options – chocolate sprinkles, belgian chocolate, chocolate glazed, double chocolate – your mind seemed to freeze up for a second. Which one would Madison want?

You quickly look behind you, seeing the man’s face twisted up in what looked like rage. It seemed to be taking him all his willpower not to lash out at you, and the customers behind him didn’t look much far off.

You turn back to the counter, eyes wide with panic as you feel the blood rush to your head. You had never been good at this; thinking and choosing on the spot. That’s why Subway was always a no-go for you, that’s why Madison had specifically told you what to get her – just that she hadn’t been specific enough. “I… I’m not sure. I think, um…”

“Hey, take it easy,” you look back up to see Remus giving you a reassuring smile, a slight hint of concern on his face. Your despair must have been embarrassingly evident, then. “It’s alright if you can’t choose. Do you want me to pick for you?”

You ought to have been humiliated, the way you immediately nodded and gave in to his offer. But he just gave you an easy smile and nodded, picking up one of each type and placing them in the box.

“Thank you,” you mumble sheepishly as you move to the payment counter, fishing in your bag for a wad of notes.

“Of course,” he grins, and it was so bright you thought it could probably light up the whole cafe. “That’ll be $15.90.”

As he waits for you to pay, he takes a quick look down and begins to brush crumbs off his apron. You look up at the wrong moment, eyes immediately fixing on the curves of his biceps visible through his T-shirt, and his slender fingers.

He glances back up at you, catching a glimpse of your flustered look and instantly smirking. You look away abashedly, counting the money and handing it to him.

The brush of your fingers against his calloused palm sent a jolting shock through you as you quickly pull back, not missing the way his smile widened as he cashed the money into the register.

“Thanks for visiting, sweetheart. Hope to see you again soon.”

You don’t reply, afraid you’d crumble into a blushing, gooey mess. Flashing him a brief, nervous smile, you pick up the box of donuts before turning around and heading straight for the exit. Sweetheart.

You huff as you open the door and step outside, pulling out your phone to complain to Madison all about the stupidly handsome barista at her favourite cafe. God, he really knew what he was doing.

summary: You'd been in the same class as Regina George since kindergarten. You'd lived on the same street even longer. Once upon a time, when life was sandbox disputes and who got the swing first arguments, you'd even been friends. Now, in junior year of high school, you doubted she even remembered you. The same couldn't be said about you. You definitely remembered her.

Making the scrapbook was cathartic. Remembering the good times, the innocence of your childhood, was as much of a joy as it was painful. The pictures were all quite good quality since Abuela had had a film camera. Some photos had been taken with a digital camera, which had probably originally belonged to the Georges and ended up in your possession somewhere along the way.

Regina and yourself playing in the Georges' backyard and swimming in their pool, beaming smiles directed at the camera. You could almost hear the laughter. I miss when we used to be able to just have fun together like this. I guess it's a part of growing up.

Regina in a white frilly dress, carrying a small basket of flower petals, donning a crown of roses on her head. She was pouting, clearly unimpressed by the whole thing. You hadn't been at the wedding since it was a George event, but Regina's mom had been so elated her daughter had gotten to be the flower girl. I remember I was so jealous you got to go to a wedding and I couldn't. You hated it, though, which was funny. You used to leave the room whenever your mom insisted we watch the tape. I wonder if she still has it.

You sitting with Regina, hip to hip, on plastic chairs while a newlyborn Kylie slept in your laps. Regina, eyes stuck on her baby sister and a thoughtful look on her face, while you looked at the camera with a smile. She's growing up so fast. Don't think I don't know you care about her. There's gonna be a time you'll regret not spending time with her. I already feel it.

Mrs George, Abuela, Regina, Kylie in her mom's arms, and you grouped together at a parking lot. You and Regina had on little graduation gowns and had scrolls in your hands. Elementary school graduation. The summer before middle school. End of an era. I love your mom's clothes, they're so nineties. Does she still have those jeans? You should get ahold of them before somebody else does...

Remember when I sliced my hand open when we were peeling apples? That was a time for sure. I still have the scar!

You taped pictures onto the pages, wrote little things here and there, hoping the labour of your love wouldn't end up in the garbage. Or if it did, Regina would read skim through it first.

I think this album was the first time we agreed on music. Britney Spears really brought us together, huh? We even learned the choreography of Baby One More Time. Mrs George loved it. I bet there's a video of that somewhere.

Mostly the scrapbook was filled with anecdotes about your childhoods together. You did write a letter of sorts on the first page, regarding your intentions with the whole thing.

I made this for you to commemorate the good times we had. You know me regrettably well, so I think you know how I tend to hold onto things. I still have that gaudy pink Build-A-Bear you made me for Valentine's Day that one time. It's one of my most important possessions, only second to the memories we have together. You'll always be a friend to me, Reggie. If not forever, or from now on, then back then. I love you. Yours, Jorts.

You'd pretty much finished the whole thing by the end of the weekend. You spent Monday and Tuesday decorating the front cover, mostly because you purposefully put it off. You cut out letters from magazines and glued them there, painstakingly forming the words Reggie & Jorts. You'd tried to come up with something clever, but making a pun or a dumb joke felt like cheapening the whole album. A simple name made up for with fabulous decorations!

You weren't much of a painter, but you figured it'd be fitting if the album reflected its contents. It was fine if the roses you painted looked like a five-year-old did them. A good majority of the pictures featured you and Regina huddled around a crafts table, similar projects scattered all around you, young with clumsy hands but filled with artistic passion.

The album in itself was an earthy green colour, something Regina undoubtedly found ugly. The flowers brightened it up somewhat, but there was only so much ages-old acrylic paints could do. You outlined some with Sharpies. If you didn't know better, one could assume it looked like that on purpose.

You took it with you to school on Wednesday. You had it weighing your backpack down the whole day. You sweated under all your layers, and by the end of it, you were sure you were sporting some epic pit stains. Gross, but you were so nervous. You hadn't broken into anyone's locker in so long. And it was Regina George's locker.

You loitered around the hallways as they emptied out steadily, people heading home or off to extracurriculars. As you approached Regina's locker, you swallowed down your nervousness and got to work.

It wasn't hard. The combination locks were all old and weak, more of a formality than an actual barrier between one's stuff and a burglar. The lock clicked open easily and you wasted no time in stuffing your album inside.

"Hey!" Just as the resounding click of the lock going back into place came, a voice called out to you. "What are you doing with Regina's locker?"

"Uhh..." Gretchen Wieners stood at the intersection of hallways, hands on her hips and accusatory eyes burning holes in you. You made the swift decision that you did not have time for this. You booked it.

"Hey! Get back here!" Gretchen, surprisingly considering her heels, started after you. "What did you put in it? You cannot prank Regina, or- or, oh, was it a bomb?"

"It's not a bomb!" You shouted over your shoulder, sprinting towards the exit. The aggressive clacking of Gretchen's heels on the floors as she ran after you would surely haunt your nightmares. How could she even keep up with you?

"If it's not a bomb then what!" How was she closing in on you? It seemed like she was not even fazed by your little race, meanwhile, you were already winded. The exit was not that far away, but it felt like miles.

"It's Regina's business now! Ask her tomorrow at school or something!" The doors to freedom approached. "Stop chasing me!"

"Stop running!"

"No!"

You burst out and quickly hopped down the stairs, two at a time. Gretchen was still on your tail, but once she got to the top of the stairs shouted: "Karen! Tackle her!"

You hadn't even noticed Karen fucking Shetty. There was no not noticing her when the girl sprinted at you with perfect athletic form and squashed you like a linebacker.

You collided and flew into the snow. Better than the concrete of the footpath but it still hurt like a bitch.

"Get off of me!" You tried to get out from under her, but Karen was surprisingly dense. She was small but it was as if there were stones in her body instead of organs. "Fuck!"

"Keep her there, Karen, very good."

"Thanks!" Karen beamed, which was a much more common expression on her than the bloodlust she'd shown earlier.

"This has nothing to do with you." You snarled, still wriggling. "This is between Regina and me."

"Whatever's between Regina is between us," Gretchen said, all hoity-toity. "Now, tell me exactly what you put in her locker."

"A fucking photo album." You hissed, closing your eyes and clenching your jaw. What lie could you come up with? "Our families used to know each other. It's mostly pictures of her, so I just thought to... Return it."

"Oh, that's so nice!" Karen's hold loosened and you went to escape.

"Nuh-uh, not good enough." Just like that, Karen's weight slammed back down onto you. Your breath wooshed out of your lungs.

"What more do you want?" You wheezed out, getting sick and tired of this.

"Why was it in your possession?"

"I don't fucking know! It just was!"

"Hmm. And why couldn't you just give it to her?"

"You think that would've gone well, Gretchen? Seriously?" You turned your head with great effort, staring up at the girl. "Please, just let me go."

"I don't think I believe you." Gretchen squatted next to your head. "We're going back and checking it's what you say it is. And then you might be free to go."

"Fuck you." You hissed but made no move to book it when Karen hauled you up.

"That's not very nice." Karen pointed out.

"I don't want to be nice to Gretchen right now." You had no real issue with Karen, even if she had just tackled you.

"Oh, okay." You couldn't see her when she was holding your wrists behind your back, but you could imagine she was bobbing her head up and down like she was known to do.

You were walked back into the building, going mostly without a fight. Gretchen strutted along proudly as if capturing you was some great victory. Regina had trained her well. You weren't sure if that was impressive or just sad.

"Open it." Gretchen gestured once you were back at Regina's locker.

"I need my hands to do that." You helped out, smiling at Gretchen like she was stupid. Sputtering and offended, she instructed Karen to let go.

Instead of running like you should've, taking the chance you could get out if Karen didn't get a one-up on you, you obediently cracked the code again. Was it selfish that you kind of wanted others to know about you and Regina? Was it totally horrible of you to want to know it was real and have proof of that? Well, if it was, there was no helping it.

Gretchen snatched the album from the locker before you could even think to touch it. Karen sidled up to her, peering over her shoulder as she opened it.

You stood by, waiting for their judgement and looking at the ceiling. There'd been a water leak right there, based on the discolouration. Gross.

"You... You're J. J is for Jorts." Gretchen said. She sounded weird, like hollow or something. "J is for Jorts." She said again, breathy and disbelieving.

"What?" What the fuck was going on?

Karen spoke then. "She talks about J a lot. Like, a lot a lot. A whole lot." You nodded slowly as Karen went on. "J's like, her true love. It's so cute."

"J is not her true love, Karen! They are both girls." Gretchen pointed out. You had to agree. "Are they?" She looked you up and down judgementally.

"Yes. I am a girl." You said. It was true, you were female and around the age that it was acceptable to be referred to as a girl. Even so, it made you distinctly uncomfortable.

"Hmm." Gretchen didn't seem to believe you. Karen was busy cooing at the pictures of small Regina. It was sheer luck they hadn't bothered to read your writings.

"Look, can I go now? I know I'm busted, you're probably gonna confiscate the album, and Regina will never see it. Happy?"

"No. Karen, please put it back in the locker." Gretchen said, not taking her eyes off of you. Karen did as asked with a pout. "What is your relationship with Regina?" The album was back in the locker, but it hadn't been locked again.

"Nothing." And that was true. There was nothing there anymore.

"That's a lie and you know it. If you're J, then you've known each other at least since middle school. Based on the pictures, even longer."

"Who is J?" You asked in exasperation.

"Somebody who she has protected for years now. Somebody who is always better than we could ever be." Gretchen pointed between herself and Karen. "J is important to her."

"Okay, well, good for J, I guess."

"You're so infuriating." Gretchen sighed, pinching the skin between her eyes.

"You aren't the first to tell me that."

"Of course, because Regina has said that to you. Because you've known each other forever. Because you're J."

"Listen, I may look a bit butch, but I have a perfectly ordinary girl name."

"That is not the point!" She spoke fast and high-pitched. "You. It's you. You've been under our noses this entire time! Do you realize how much easier things could've been if you were around?"

"Excuse me?" Now, you were really lost.

"You're excused," Karen said cheerfully. You nodded to her in thanks.

"We could never be as good as you. It was like we were placeholders for the ultimate pretty girl she'd somehow let slip. And it's you. In a flannel and hoodie, ratty jeans, dirty shoes, no fashion sense to speak of. It's you." She said that last part with contempt.

You were reeling. Regina had talked about you to these two. Had compared them to you, cited that you were better. For years she'd done that. She'd never forgotten about you.

"Look, Gretchen, I'm sorry Regina's treated you badly." You'd lost the need to defend her, even still. Then again, even if you hadn't, there was little you could argue about with the two she'd tormented the most. "You can probably tell this is something Regina doesn't want coming out."

"What does that matter?" Gretchen asked, eyes far away and legs beginning to pace. "We could- could finally bring her down. Yes. We have J, we have everything she wants. She'll come grovelling."

You took a deep breath. You didn't feel angry, you were too tired to get angry at mean girls at this point. Besides, nobody could rile you up like Regina.

"You're wrong." You put it plainly. "What Regina's been doing to these people, to everyone around her, is wrong. But what I find despicable is how everybody is the same. I know her reasons, I can sympathise with her, but I can't say the same for you. So tell me." You paused to take a deep breath. "Why?"

"I'm not good at riddles, I'm sorry." Karen said, looking genuinely apologetic.

"It's okay, Karen, Gretchen can answer for you both."

"She deserves it." Gretchen said, steel in her tone.

"You sound just like Cady Heron and Janis 'Imi'ike. She hurt them too. What do you think ruining her life will achieve?"

"I'll be the new Regina George."

"Do you hear yourself? You still idolize her. If you're gonna be the new Regina George, it's always going to be a Regina George world. Don't you want to be Gretchen Wieners?"

"No!" She screeched. "Gretchen Wieners is lame, boring, too eager, a slut, desperate-" She took a deep breath.

"Okay." You said. "Why? Because Regina said so? Why would you believe her? She's just the same as you. Look," You pulled the album back out.

"Here we're in the Georges' pool. She would not go to the deep end. Y'know, she refused to even go in without those arm floaties for the longest time. Eventually, some boy made fun of her for them and that was the last time.

"And in this one we're driving back from summer camp. Regina was already tall enough to go without a booster seat, but I wasn't. She'd just thrown the biggest tantrum 'cause Mrs George didn't allow her to take off her seatbelt to sleep. She went out like a light, anyway.

"We're in Six Flags there. We'd just gotten those ice creams and you can see that Regina's isn't sticking to the cone all that well. Right after the shot, it just slid off. Regina was inconsolable. I offered her mine so we could share, and that seemed to be good enough for her but her dad was not having it. He threatened to take us home if she didn't stop crying right then, that it'd be all her fault that their whole family wasted money and time on this stupid trip. Eventually she calmed down and Mr George didn't have to drive us back."

You sighed. "I already tried this with Janis, in a way. I don't think Regina would appreciate me airing out her personal life like this, but... I don't know..." You closed your eyes for a moment. "I just want people to stop making things worse for her. She's been so wrong for so long, and I know I can't keep defending her, but I just don't think revenge will make her regret anything that she's done."

Karen hummed. "My auntie's been teaching me about karma. So, like, if she feels what she's made others feel, then won't that like... Fix her?"

"I don't want to hurt her." You said, resolute. "Maybe, it could be the most effective way to make her see her shortcomings. But I don't want to. I do not want to hurt her." You looked between the two. "And that's where we differ, I guess."

Gretchen didn't say anything, eyes glued to a picture from the Six Flags trip. Regina had mustard and ketchup smeared all over her face while she was holding a napkin to your lips, in the process of wiping your face.

With that, you snatched the album from her hands, deposited it back into the locker and slammed it shut. The lock clicked. Without a word, you began to talk towards the exit. Neither of them followed you or said anything to you.

You couldn't stop people from taking their revenge. You had done your best to be diplomatic. Evoking sympathy in hormonal teenagers wasn't something easily done, or maybe you were just shitty at it, but there was little else you could do. If you went ahead and retaliated, hurt them for hurting someone you cared about, the lines blurred.

You'd just be another mean girl.

Notes: Sorry for the delay! The next chapter will be the last one, unless I start rambling or something. After that, I'll do a less structured series of epilogues. Loosely related oneshots, that kinda vibe.

Also, my writing assistant stopped working in the middle of this, so if there's stupid typos I'll come fix them later.

page 1: forever, i don't even know how you must be thinking of me now. if everything has gone to plan, things must have been so weird that you've already started to suspect my infiltration plans. i believe that you're very intelligent.

page 2: the past few days have been a torture greater than i could ever imagine. what the census bureau did to me with that chainsaw couldn't compare to the pain to having to fight and lie every day to the people closest to me. feeling the deception hurts.

page 3: but it was the only way. the initial plan as to surprise you and the census bureau during the trial, but the vivo meme gave me the perfect opportunity to make a scene and make it look like i had some sort of motive to argue.

page 4: the census bureau doesn't understand feelings and wants too well, so this would be sufficient for it to believe my motives. it worked. i've never been so alone, but seeing you take up leadership and fighting so ferociously left me-

page 5: proud. everything is so much more difficult than i thought, but this was the only way for us to get any type of real information. after all this effort, all this fighting, all these enigmas, we still haven't found ANYTHING out about the federation. nothing.

I love it in cases like les mis fandom. I get so excited when I see french especially in canon era fics. There are a lot of ways in which we can put the translation in the notes or using a skin I hate it tho, when I'm reading a fic and a latine character's only personality traits are that they are a criminal and they speak spanish BUT that doesn't mean I don't want more spanish speaking characters in fic even if they're just minor characters

DC comics! I started writing and posting fic in 2019 and it's still the fandom that I write for today, attempts at branching out haven't been succesful

Always the hardest question to answer but I really, really like re-reading Bear Me No Witness it has it all: Dick in a croptop, a news scandal, fake marriage and Jason messing with Dick to hurt Bruce I wish I could write a sequel!!!! (self call out)

Here is my list of the top 12 obscure RWBY villains (part 1 of 2). While RWBY is an expansive series complete with complex characters and numerous mainline villains, there are also a surprising number of rabbit holes and side series that introduce a range of lesser-known Ne'er-Do-Wells! This is just my take on some of the more interesting scumbags in the RWBY universe outside of the main narrative, starting with some of my least favorites and working my way up. How I rank them is pretty arbitrary to be honest. Spoilers Ahoy! Naturally, this list also contains several spoilers for the various RWBY comics, manga, games, and splinter video series. Continue at your own peril!

12. Starro - Lowest on my list is Starro… the evil starfish… from outer space. Seriously, this is a RWBY villain, no joke. Anyone out there who is a fan of the DC universe may recognize this character as one of the original villains for the Justice League. For those who are not (like me), this came as a bit of a… surprise. Starro serves as the primary villain in the first RWBY x Justice League comic book where he starts the first several years of his time on Remnant hypnotizing fish. Eventually, he gets bored of exerting his domain over fish and other sea life, and decides to conquer the world by building an army of starfish-fanatical minions, including Phyrra and the other members of JNPR, who must all bear his starfish emblem to strike the fear of starfish into their foes. In the end, the Justice League manages to overthrow this oversized echinoderm (with a little help from Team RWBY). Honestly, I don't know whether to laugh or cry looking at Starro. I will give them credit for… uniqueness. I do not think that there will ever be another starfish supervillain. Still, as cringy as Starro is, it is still far less cringy than seeing Ruby flirting with superman IN THE FIRST 5 PAGES OF THE BOOK (shiver). But that is just my personal feeling, no worries if there is anyone out there who likes Red Cap or Starro, I promise that I do not cast judgement.

11. Vermillion - Honestly, I cannot say much about Vermillion at this point since I have yet to watch season 2 of the Grimm Campaign (mostly because I do not want to buy a Rooster Teeth subscription). So I cannot place him any higher than number 11 on this list, but I would recommend watching the Grimm Campaign. The Grimm Campaign is a D&D style RWBY adventure played by Sherry Shawcross and company as they explore a conspiracy in the Mistral city of Kuchinashi. This semi-canon RWBY side-series follows Team SAFR as they investigate reports of bizarre Grimm and unusual criminal activity. Vermillion is only foreshadowed in season 1 but serves as the main antagonist in the second season.

10. Edward Caspian - Okay, he may not technically be a villain. But this character from 'RWBY: After The Fall' still makes some pretty questionable choices that bring pain and misery in roughly equal proportions. Being kind by nature, he may mean well but he still makes Qrow's bad luck semblance seem like mild indigestion (yes, I know, but it is still his decision for them to be there).

9. Deery & Perry - The only two antagonists on this list from the main series. Both are members of the White Fang that kept popping up during the good ol' Beacon Days. Perry is perhaps the more recognizable of the two due to wearing glasses. Both first appeared during the White Fang recruitment rally in season 2 and played minor roles during the Mt Glenn incident. While Perry's fate following that literal train wreck is not known, Deery apparently escaped and could often be seen next to Adam in season 3, even participating in the Fall of Beacon. As with many other villains, they probably believed that their extremist actions were just. Honorable mentions go to Floyd the Geist from the Chibi universe for this spot.

8. Hei Xiong - A minor villain in the book 'Roman Holiday' alongside Neopolitan's father, Xiong was the biggest and scariest crime lord in Vale until Roman came along and showed him the door. In terms of personality, he is kind of your standard mafia boss-type persona. Although not as brazen as Lil Miss Malachite, he ruled with a subtle hand and a keen wit, unlike his son Junior from the main series. Although the book is excellent, Xiong himself is somewhat of a plain-vanilla type of character and so I placed him down here at number 8.

7. Bram Thornmane - Okay, perhaps not as obscure as some of the other villains on this list but still not one of the show's staple boogeymen. Bram is an antagonist from the game 'RWBY: Arrowfell.' He wraps himself in a cloak of false nobility and lies to manipulate others into doing his dirty work. Unstable and egotistical, he seeks only vengeance over a petty grudge. Some people just can't handle rejection. Overall, I found his character somewhat forgettable but at least he puts up a good fight.

Hello! My emetophobia is very mild and doesn’t often extend to television, but I have a friend who wanted to watch TLOG with a more severe phobia, so I thought I’d compile this list for anyone else looking to get into their work! I will also probably do one for Psychoville and Inside No 9!

SEASON 1

S01 EPISODES 1-3- SAFE

[6:30-6:43] Chinnery is brought to a small tent to analyze ‘the beast of Royston Vasey’. The policeman (played by Steve Pemberton) lifts some foil off of the body, and Chinnery v* into his mask, then ducks behind the table. I’d recommend skipping the scene if you’re sensitive.

[24:25-24:32] Later, after Dave, Ollie and Phil have finished their performance, Dave says to ollie that he’s leaving legs akimbo. When Dave walks off stage, Ollie says ‘excuse me a moment, I think I’m gonna be s*’ and runs off stage.

He does not look nor sound ill so hopefully it shouldn’t be too triggering

For the most part it is safe, the nosebleed epidemic *could* be triggering for some, however, so bear that in mind.

[14:50-14:57] However, during the Denton’s house rules song (an absolute banger by the way), when Benjamin is taken to the bathroom, he crawls along the floor to the toilet, and hovers his head over the top before he is shoved in by Harvey. He doesn’t make any gestures or expressions but I thought I’d put it here in case it’s triggering for some.

This is a silly detail but if you’re as a big a fan as me and you’ve bought the script book, on page 216 there is a deleted scene involving Benjamin that could be rather triggering.

[9:10-9:18] Pauline does spit a rather gratuitous amount of saliva onto a burger, just in case anyone finds that triggering.

S02 EPISODE 3- SAFE

In the opening scene, Hillary takes Maurice into the woods, when they accost the two figures, Maurice sort of doubles over and coughs, no v* though!

This scene is a bit of a weird one in terms of visual because it’s a match cut, so be wary.

[10:38-10:45] When the police invade Hillary’s home, they pull a blanket over a mound to reveal a cow, they g* slightly at the smell. It’s sounds more like coughing to me though!

[25:15-25:20] I believe this episode is mostly safe, however, when Lottie unveils a plate of German breakfast in front of Matthew, he groans squeamishly and sits back but does not v*.

[15:48-15:57] Carlton takes Gina to his home to stay overnight. As she’s walking along the hallway beside him, she gets a sudden pain in her head and tells him she feels n*, but does not v*.

Although, if you’re going to watch the deleted scenes, be wary of the scenes with Gina. In one of the takes, when she reaches the top of the stairs, she runs towards a drawer and v*s in it, full visual and audio. It explains why she is wiping her mouth in the scene following the one mentioned above.

[25:00-25:20] Not technically v* but has the potential to be very triggering. When Val exorcises Benjamin (possessed by Harvey), he flings the curtains open and flops onto the couch. He then proceeds to cough up a toad, the visual is just a mucus covered frog but the audio is quite visceral, so maybe skip this one.

Also, earlier in the episode, after Pop pays Ritchie a visit, he comes out looking rather uncomfortable and ill, but he doesn’t v* so don’t worry.

THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN’S APOCALYPSE (2005)- SAFE*

[22:15-22:42] Papa Lazarou begins to g* quite violently, and coughs up a matted ball of hair. It’s played for laughs but be wary if you’re triggered by stuff like that!

[45:40-45-50] Steve’s character spits a large amount of phlegm into a bowl, I found it to be not so much triggering but more gross, but then again, my phobia is very mild so watch at your own risk!

[34:23-34:48] I don’t know what it is with Steve and spitting but he seems to do it a lot. In this scene, Pauline spits into a cup for quite a while, again, it’s more gross than triggering personally but just be wary.

[50:52-51:40] Another Denton sketch. They do their typical ‘aquavita’ sketch, but towards the end, after Val comes up from behind the piano, Benjamin begins to g* and walks towards the lamp post. He then proceeds to v* onto Harvey. Both the visual and audio are quite unrealistic (it’s a v* rig so it looks more like a hose pipe with water, and the sound is just Reece sort of yelling) but the g*ing beforehand and the coughing after may be triggering, so be careful!

ON THE TOWN WITH THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN

This is quite obscure but just in case I’ll pop it here too!

[20:36-20:40] Like the scene from S01E04, Dave tells Ollie that he is leaving Legz Akimbo, and Ollie freaks out. After he says ‘…for our gala performance of everybody out!’ he then asks Phil to fetch him a bucket because he thinks he’s going to be s*, then begs him to be quick. This is only slightly more triggering than the television adaption but I thought I’d mention it.

EPISODE 4- NOT SAFE [AUDIO]

Mike groans all throughout this scene so it’s easy to see it coming. It culminates at about [21:15-21:20], the sound itself isn’t *that* realistic but something to be wary of nonetheless.

[18:56-19:07] If you’re going to watch the christmas special DVD extra Highgate House of Horror, just be mindful that at 18:56 Reece’s bursts a bag of blood that spouts onto his face, and in response he v*. I actually found the g*ing a little bit triggering but it might have been justt the stimuli from everything else going on in the scene. There is no audio, only music and visual.

Coping With the Loss of a Companion Animal

“A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, but even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.” Proverbs 12:10

Recently my wife and I had to make the very grievous decision of putting down our beloved golden retriever Honey Bear. She was a true blessing from God over the last twelve and half years. She was greatly loved by us, by extended family, and brightened up those she came in contact with in our community. I have lost other pets in the past through death and moving from place to place, but never experienced the pain and grief of losing Honey.

Upon receiving her urn and a plaster print of her paw we also received a short seven page pamphlet titled “Coping With the Loss of a Companion Animal | Support Guide for Families”. We found it to be helpful in the grieving process, and decided to share it with others that may have lost a furry family member or about to. We hope it helps in the grieving process, and our hearts go out to you in your time of loss.

Grief

Grief is a healthy and normal response to loss. Attempting to suppress feelings of grief can actually prolong the grieving process. Grief can feel like being lost. The familiar things we relied on to live each day are gone. We must find new anchors or stabilizers along the way and learn a new way of relating to the world and people around us. It is also common to replay the last moments of your pet’s life repeatedly in your mind, like a videotape that keeps playing the same scene over and over.

No one can hurry the process or provide a magic cure for grief. When grief is new, it is common to feel exhausted: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Changes in appetite, sleeping patterns, or health are frequently reported. Those who are grieving often describe feelings of being out of control, isolation, and loneliness. Things that seemed so important before may now seem trivial. Others may experience a sense of “life isn’t fair” or being in a tunnel or fog while everyday life swirls around them.

All of these feelings are normal and part of the grieving process, which follows no organized plan, rules, timetable, formula, or schedule. Don’t be surprised if you start to feel better, and then feel as if a wave has hit you. There will be ups and downs in the process of grieving.

The purpose of healthy grieving is not to “get over” the death of a loved one, but to integrate the experience of a pet’s death into present life. In this process, it is not unusual for certain memories of your pet to become blurred. This does not mean that you are forgetting your pet or that your love is diminished. The truth is, you will ALWAYS love this very special member of your family. The hope is that as time goes on, the feelings of sadness will become less difficult. In the beginning, you may be sad to think or talk about your companion animal. Eventually, the hope is that you will be able to talk and even smile or laugh at good memories.

Guilt

Guilt and uncertainty are probably two of the most common emotions that people experience after the death of their pet. You may find yourself thinking continuously about what you perceive you could have, should have, or would have done to prevent or postpone your pet’s death Some suggestions for coping with guilt include:

1. Be truthful with yourself about why you feel guilty.

2. Write a letter to your pet expressing feelings you may be struggling with.

3. Do a reality check. Most people assume that if they had done something differently, the outcome would have been better. It’s just as likely, however, that if you had done things differently, the outcome would have been the same.

4. Remember that you are human. No one is perfect. Accepting your imperfections will aid you in working through your emotions.

5. Remember that all living things die. There is not always an answer to why bad things happen and you do not have to find someone (yourself or others) or something to blame. Realize that sometimes you are powerless and that you cannot control everything that happens to your loved ones. What you can control is how you choose to respond to the events that happen in your life

6. Try writing or talking to a trusted friend or advisor about your thoughts and feelings of guilt. Expressing your concerns in a safe and supportive environment can help you examine your emotions from a different perspective.

Seeking Support

While there is no standard duration for grief, the pain of loss normally eases with time. You can work through the process by applying healthy coping skills, such as talking with others about your memories and emotions and facing the grief, rather than trying to stay distracted or busy to avoid intense emotions. If your feelings . of sorrow or guilt have not diminished after several weeks or if they impair your ability to engage in family, social, work, or other functions, you may wish to reach out for support. Many people have found comfort in calling a pet loss support hotline, joining a pet loss support group, reading books about coping with the death of a pet, or talking with a trusted counselor or advisor.

Celebrate Your Pet’s Life

Some owners would like a way to memorialize their companion animal. The following are some ways that others have found helpful:

• Conduct a memorial service

• Keep your pet’s tags, toys, collars, bedding, etc. keep your horse’s shoes, tail, mane hair

• Save condolence cards or e-mails from friends and family

• Create a picture collage, scrapbook, story, or poem about vour pet

• If you chose cremation, you may keep the ashes in an urn or locket, or you may choose to scatter them in a place that was special to vour pet.

• Journal your pet’s story; how, when, and where you met, unique personality traits, nicknames, what you love the most, and what you’ll miss the most

• Donate time, money, or talent in your pet’s honor

Adopting Again

The decision about bringing another animal into the home is very personal. Some families may decide not to adopt a new companion animal because of the emotional, physical, or financial demands involved with companion animal care. Others may feel the time is right to share their home and heart with another pet.

The time to consider adopting a new companion animal is when the entire family has had sufficient time to deal with the emotions of grief. Adopting too soon can lead to feelings of guilt or resentment toward the new family member. The important thing to remember is that bringing another animal into the home is not a betrayal of the one that is gone. You will never replace the one you’ve lost. You will simply be opening your home and heart to a new friend.

For families who want to consider adoption, it will be important to remember that each companion animal has a special and unique personality. Take time to discuss different sizes, breeds, or colors before making a final decision Consider the needs and temperament ol any surviving companion animals.

1) What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

I think part of the issue with this is that as of pretty recently my writing has undergone a pretty big change. I guess the best way to split it is almost like a pre and post March 2020 distinction.

Pre March 2020 I’d say the definition of winning (is flawed) from back when I was still writing for The 100. This was only my second multi chapter** thing I had ever fully completed and until very recently was the longest work on my account.

Post March 2020 is where I’m at now and I’ll give it to what is currently the longest work on my account, Shattered Glass. I’m going to be stuck in my Star Wars writing pit for the foreseeable future lol.

I think this tag distribution is probably speaking more closely to my current writing than anything else. I’ve written a lot of different things over 9 years (next year will be 10 years of having my AO3 account) so I don’t have a lot of tags in common (also especially because I was really bad at tagging at the beginning).

34) What aspects of your writing are inspired by/taken from your real life?

I’m a strong believer in the fact that no matter what you create, you impart part of yourself onto it no matter what. So it’s a bit hard to say. I’d say a big one at least is that my relationships in my life definitely influence the way I write relationships in ways that run very deep and would make it impossible to remove my own bias from them. Even if what I’m writing is fundamentally different there is just no way for me to write them without being in reference to the important relationships in my life (both platonic and romantic) and at points go so far as I directly reference things I know these people would pick up on within my writing (looking at my beta reader rn - she knows this lol). Also the heavy use of the domestic fluff tag, it’s an indulgence of mine for sure.

35) What aspects of your writing are completely unlike your real life?

Probably a lot of the angst. Or at least it’s blown completely disproportionately in my writing because it’s a fun thought exercise. And also probably my propensity to describe things in ways that are a bit gross because irl I am so squeamish and once spent 30 minutes dry heaving at work when I saw a dead mouse 🤦🏻‍♀️

It was the lie I told myself last night when I said I was going to wake up at 8:00 AM. That did NOT happen.

Sure, why not. It’s comforting to think that good things happen to people who do good things, and sometimes it does happen that way.

When I made this Tumblr account eleven years ago, I couldn’t think of a URL. So I looked around my room and saw a stuffed bear wearing a Royal Guard uniform, and was like alright yeah general bear that works. Sometimes I think I should change it but after eleven years I’ve grown pretty attached.

13) What is your greatest weakness; your greatest strength?

My greatest weakness is that I’m very emotional; my greatest strength is that I’m very emotional.

14) Who is your celebrity crush?

Oh definitely Henry Cavil, but specifically in Man From U.N.C.L.E.

I cry and scream into pillows and send very long texts to my mom.

Yeah! I have a modest collection of cool rocks, mini terracotta warrior statues, and owl-shaped mugs. I also collect gold dollars.

For the most part, yes! I like who I am. I think I have a lot of work to do before I’m completely content with who I am, but I’ve grown a lot in my twenty-three years. I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but I’ve learned from them too.

18) What’s a sound you hate; sound you love?

I really love the sound of aspen trees in the wind. I often think of it to calm myself down. But I hate the sound of my roommate’s blender. It’s this loud, metallic grating sound and it hurts my ears.

19) What’s your biggest “what if”?

Right now it’s “what if we actually had a competent presiding judge in that last mock trial round?” because maybe if he was competent, maybe he would have voted for us on the ballot and we could have moved on to the finals.

20) Do you believe in ghosts? How about aliens?

I believe in ghosts, but I think it’s likely they’re just some funky blips where time and space get a little thin. And aliens definitely exits but they’re too far away from us for it to matter.

I touch my Captain America mug with whatever is left of my boba tea; then I touch my ukelele.

Oh man. It’s gotta be Chugwater, Wyoming. It was windy, it was cold, they had about five rundown buildings, and our car almost didn’t start.

Questions that made me look up, “handsome male singers.” But I guess I’d have to say Zachary Levi? He counts, rights?

25) To you, what is the meaning of life?

To experience it, I guess. Make friends, make enemies, listen to music, create art, watch birds, look at cool rocks, throw cool rocks!

26) Do you drive? If so, have you ever crashed?

I sold my car last year, but I can still drive if I need to. I have only “crashed” once, but it wasn’t bad. I let my foot slip of the brake as I was approaching a red light and I bumped into the car in front of me. Not a scratch on either car. There was a time that I almost crashed, though. I was driving on an icy highway and spun out. A snow bank stopped me from going into the barrier. I got really lucky that no one hit me.

27) What was the last movie you saw?

I watched Missing Link while packing last week. Solidly okay movie, definitely not Laika’s best.

28) What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had?

Does surgery count? If yes, then definitely the time I had my sternum restructured. But if not, then the time I crashed an e-scooter and cracked my head.

I’m really into Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (shut up) and the Owl House. I have a lot of others but those are the biggest right now.

I think so. I try to be there for my friends, and I do my best to be supportive and understanding. I tend to get in my own head a bit which can probably be annoying but hopefully the good outweighs the bad!

Guess I’m getting fired because I am not about to leave that poor dog to die.

I’m terrified, but I make the announcement to my friends and family. I would move home, selling most of the stuff that can’t come with me. I would spend the rest of my time surrounded by loved ones and doing my favorite mountain things.

MANGA & COMICS

a little note before starting, the ones with numbers means i only read those volumes throughout the year. When there is no number, i read the full series :)

1. Yotsuba 1-3, by Kiyohiko Azuma

Yotsuba is the sweetest, funniest and most especial child you'll ever meet. With just her 4 ponytails and her smile, she will conquer your heart with her shennaningans, pranks, misunderstandings and little adventures that often include her neighbours, her father, and other friends. Truly a heartwarming little story that made me laugh until my belly hurt.

2. Golden kamuy 1-10, by Satoru Noda

Golden Kamuy has everything: it's a western except it happens in Hokkaido, it has magnificent scenery, action, delicious food, history, wild animals, mythology, a treasure hunt, bears, political intrigue, buff men, and more than one psychopath. It also happens to be hilarious, except when it gets serious. It really has everything a story needs to work, and on top of that the protagonists --Sugimoto and Asirpa-- are amagzing. Not to mention that the author has done their research on Ainu culture, and it definetely shows.

3. Monster, by Naoki Urasawa

Alright, I finished this one in January 2023, but read most of it in 2022 and let me tell you, this is one of the most masterfully crafted stories I've ever read. Monster presents us with a thrilling mystery and then proceeds to explore a range of topics dealing with morals and human identity. The best part is it never stops being entertaining, and the art is always great.

4. Haru no Noroi (Haru's curse), by Asuka Konishi

The story begins with Haru, Natsumi's little sister, dying. Following this event, Natsumi and Haru's fiancé start dating. Sounds iffy as hell, right? Well, that's because it is. But this story has much more than what the premise gives off. And among the melodrama lays a complex psychological examination of the characters, and particularly of the relationship between Natsumi and Haru that takes the center stage. The art style is sober, simple and borderline cartoonish but ends up proving very effective.

5. Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn) 9-18, by Mizuho Kusanagi

I read this one from around the point where the anime finished because I loved the anime and needed more (it's a shame we never got a second season *sighs*). And the manga is just as good. Though I felt some topics are treated with a little too much naivety, mostly it is a reading that keeps growing as it goes. The world expands, the characters evolve and all together with some very well-paced comedy, epic moments, thrilling battles and a bit of romance, accompanied by some truly gorgeous art.

6. Slam dunk 9-31, by Takehiko Inoue

This is the first sports manga I've read, but something tells me it's probably going to remain the best. Maybe there isn't that much to it other than the basketball. But oh, man, that basketball! Inoue sowly, but surely, lets the characters grow while never losing the comedic touch, and keeping the epicity always high. But the one thing that makes Slam dunk stand out isn't just its huge and charismatic cast of characters with their marvellous, unique designs --it's the art. Inoue obviously loves basketball, and that love pours through every page, but he is also hapens to be an absolutely outstanding artist.

7. Mars 1-3, by Fuyumi Soryo

Now this is melodrama. I have no words for just how dramatic and intense this is --perhaps too intense and too dramatic. But oh do I love it. In Mars we follow Kira, a shy high school student and artist as she meets and falls in love with the mysterious Kei, her classmate who is also a motorcycle rider and has a reputation for being a "bad boy". Soryo wanted to explore truly delicate topics here --such as bullying, sexual harassement, suicide and PTSD-- pushing the boundries of the demographic it was aimed at. And while doing so, she creates a fine, delicate and intrincate story of human connection. The art too is gorgeous, with a lot of 90s nostalgia, and most of all, a very peculiar way of panneling. It's 15 volumes in total, but if it keeps being as good as it's been so far then this surely will be something.

8. Blissful land, by Ichimon Izumi

This five-volume manga presents us with a simple story: we're in Tibet at around the 18th century. A young doctor in training is betrothed to a young girl from a foreign land. And that's it. That's all the story, the manga simply follows the young couple as they live together and adjust to each other while living together before their marriage. It's a simple slice of life, with some very beautiful art and some details on Tibetan culture from the time. All and all, Blissful land is simply a quiet, sweet story to draw a smile on your face.

9. Lychee light club, by Usamaru Furuya

Now this one is foul. I foudn it when looking for a quick horror read... And this was not it. I'm surprised I liked it at all. This is only one volume, and it's full of gore, torture, murder, sexual assault, and just overall awful stuff. It follows the eponymous club, a nazi-esque group of middle schoolers lead by a charming psychopath who wants to build a Frankenstein-monster type of machine. And it all goes downhill from there. Obviously, most of it is just there for the sheer shock value. All of it is wicked. The artwork is awfully stylish, and most of all, the writing is devilishly entertaining. Becasue here is the thing: it ends up reading like a very dark black comedy. I think it was that tone that made me not only read all the way through but enjoy reading something that would frankly otehrwise had made me turn my gaze away in pure disgust.

I just did a terrible dive, and I loved it. It was an unseasonably warm New Year’s Day – bright sunlight and 53 degrees at the Jersey Shore.  I had already done my traditional Polar Bear Plunge at noon, along with our friends and their kids.  High slack tide was at 3 PM, and the vis report from the day before was fantastic.  Over 10 feet (very good for a shore dive) and some of the surfers were saying that the water in the inlets was as clear as they had ever seen it.

 So even though I had packed up my gear for the season, and was looking forward to hitting the slopes for the next few months, I figured I would do a dive.  I coordinated with Jason – someone I found on the local shore diving messaging group – to hit the Shark River inlet in Belmar around 2:30, entering from the beach jetty.  Jason had scouted out the site and reported very few fishermen on the pier, which was a good thing – I had been hooked there once before.  Since the current would still be running in, the plan was to ride it up to around A street and then turn back and swim to the entrance/exit point on the slack or outgoing tide.

 We typically enter the water off the Jetty from the Belmar beach, just east of the southern abutment of the Ocean Avenue drawbridge.  The bridge has two large concrete towers (called “piers”) which support the roadway and the mechanism of the “bascule leaves” that open for larger ships.  The piers divide the waterway into three portions, directing traffic to the center of the inlet (between the piers).  Wooden pilings and planking protect the piers from boats and vice versa.   Divers try to stay closer to the riverbank and out of the central channel – with varying degrees of success, as we shall soon see!

 The beach jetty entrance is one of the harder ones in the area, especially if you are carrying a heavy camera (which I always do).  But I eventually made it down the slippery boulders and dropped into the water.  The vis was clearly not what it had been the day before.  I could barely see the tips of my fins, which meant maybe 5 feet.  Oh, well.  I told Jason that if I didn’t see him again during the dive, I would see him on my phone in the message group.  I dumped air from my BC and dropped towards the southern shoal of the Shark River inlet.

 Several things became immediately apparent.  The vis at depth was much worse than on the surface, maybe 2 feet at best.  The current was ripping – we must have gotten in a little early – and I was being blown through the midwater murk with no landmarks.  And Jason had gone back to being just a name on the GroupMe app (I can never do these dives with a buddy anyway, so at least that part was going according to plan).

 That was all OK, I was having fun!  I knew that I was heading west, under the bridge and into the Inlet towards A street. My awesome Seac Komoda 5 mm wetsuit (they don’t pay for this product placement) kept me warm and comfy in the 45 degree water. I even tried to take a picture.  It probably won’t make the cover of National Geographic, but hey, it’s a nice memory for me, so I included it in the album at the top of the page.

 But eventually I had had enough.  The only life I saw on the whole dive was one lonely little crab who must have been left behind when his buddies headed to Boca for the winter.  Time to head back to where I parked my car, by the entrance point on the beach jetty.  The current was still running, but it had started to fall off as high slack tide approached.  I moved slowly east with a combination of finning and puling myself from rock to rock on the bottom.  It got dark, which told me that I was back under the bridge.  And then I found myself swimming through a bunch of nasty looking uprights, including pieces of steel rebar with sharp rusted ends that were part of the bridge substructure.  I threaded through them, upcurrent, but something didn’t feel quite right.  

 As always when in an active waterway, I was towing a dive float, which is a flag on a Styrofoam base tied to some strong string, known as “line”.  I use a special reel for this line, running out enough to reach the surface with a little bit of scope (extra line to compensate for the angle to the surface from diving in current).  I clip the reel to my hip, and I have a small breakaway link where the line is tied to the float, so if it ever got snagged by a passing boat, I wouldn’t get towed away on a wild ride.

 I got the sense that this line might have gotten snagged in that bridge structure.  Now that is potentially dangerous.  We have a saying: “line is evil”.  That primarily refers to slack line floating loose in the water, where it can get tangled around a diver’s gear and legs.  It’s less of a problem with line that is under tension, but that’s always an issue.  This is one of the reasons that I always carry two cutting devices – a trauma shears on my belt and something called a “trilobite” on my dive computer wrist strap. This is especially important when you are diving alone, not only in case you get snagged in your own line, but wherever discarded fishing line is a risk.

 My float line wasn’t entangling me (yet), but I saw it going down into the murk of the bridge pilings. Huh, normally it’s supposed to go UP! I just had a bad feeling about this, so instead of following it back down - alone into the muck, current, line and rebar - I surfaced.  I kept close to the bridge pilings to stay away from boat traffic, letting more line out as I went.

 I surfaced on the north side of the south pier, just at the upstream side of the bridge.  Yes, that meant I was in then central ship channel, I must have gotten blown across the river bottom a bit.   Suboptimal. I was holding on to the pilings and planks, and I looked across this open structure to see my flag on the south side of the pilings, with the line heading to the bottom.

 I didn’t want to lose the expensive reel, and I didn’t want to navigate the channel without a flag, on the surface or at depth.  I also didn’t want to cut the line until I was ready to re-secure it to the float. So I unclipped the reel from my waist, tied it off to the planking, and then went around to the south side of the pilings, hand over hand on the structure (the current was still pretty strong).  I cut the float free with my shears, dragged it back to the reel, and tied it to the line again.  With a new functioning float, I made my way back to the exit point.  I then managed to drag myself, my scuba rig, my float, my fins and my camera up those slippery jetty boulders again, and happily made it to stable sand.

 I looked up and saw Jason walking towards me on the beach.  Turns out he had gotten swept up the river with no functioning light and decided to bail out at A street.  He left his gear there, walked back to his car, and drove back to pick it up.

 OK, so it wasn’t the gin clear waters of a Mexican cave.  There were no schooling hammerheads like in the Galapagos.  But it was my home field.  I went diving and only had to leave the family for an hour or so. My carbon footprint was negligible, and my buddy and I both got in the water for the cost of an air fill.  Half of an air fill.   AND, we both got some good practice in solving problems.

 And THAT, my friends, was a good day in the water!

It’s so beautiful. It’s a whole different planet. So young and full of so many trilobites. How amazing is that.

So, Franstober’s over

I did it aaaa I still can’t believe it XD Initial plan was to have most of it as sketches because I didn’t think I’d have enough drawing juices to draw complete pieces for a month... but then I just. Forgot that LOL

Again, huge thanks to @uhhbananafrappe for the prompts and so many new ideas 💗💕✨ if you can drop by her blog and her kofi page, so much amazing stuff that’s been inspiring me for more than 5 years

So yeah after month of non-stop drawing I’ll most probably take a break XD I put on hold every project I was in the middle of to do franstober and I’d like to get back to them, even tho all of them are sacred secrets I can’t post

But there’s a second reason for this post... my birthday is soon!

Yeah 4th of November is my Birthday and I have a tiny wish

Please give me feedback for my art

It comes and goes for a few months now, but sometimes I feel very discouraged/sad from lack of concrete feedback on my drawings. I do a picture that I think is the best picture I’ve ever done and get zero comments, or I try something new, something so different that if I incorporate it into my art it will change it fundamentally, and get nothin’. 

Don’t misunderstand me, getting general compliments is very flattering, and I appreciate each and every one, as well each and every one person who leaves them!! The thing is- I really want to improve my art, and without help of other’s I’ll just be moving in circles for a long time.

So, no need to write be happy birthday wishes on my big day. Here’s my wish -

please send me which of my drawing/doodles/comics/gifts is your favorite, and why

in the comments, in the inbox, just in dms - the ‘why’ part can be anything - the way i lined it, the coloring, the lighting, the way I drew a neck or colored an eye, or it was a fanart for something you love, or even for you- maybe its the feelings conveyed, or, if its a comic, maybe its the way frames are structured or just a story-

and don’t come saying ‘all of your art’. this will make me feel sadder for reasons i can’t quite express myself. please please please just pick one

Though I’d appreciate if you actually picked two! Bonus points if you pick from my overall art, and then from latest Franstober art! Relationship status: Married for nine years. Hubs and I got married on our 10 year dating anniversary. We started dating when we were 17. So yeah, we’ve been together a long ass time.

Favorite color: Green, and any shade thereof. My eyes are green, so it’s been my fave since I was a kid.

Favorite food: I love bread, though I try to eat less of it now as I get older, as it doesn’t do my body good. Also coffee, cheese and chocolate make life worth living sometimes.

Song stuck in your head: I’m going to pretend it’s not a theme song from kiddo’s cartoon and say Age of Consent by New Order because I adore that song and it came on while watching Paper Girls the other night. (Just started this show and loved the first two episodes.)

Last thing you Googled: “Exit, pursued by a bear.” Was beta reading for @whatevertheweather last night and she used it for a spell and I sadly did not know the reference. Now I do!

Time: 11:05 am

Dream Trip: I would really like to get over my fear of traveling to a non-English speaking country. I’ve only ever picked English speaking locations for vacations for fear of getting lost or not being able to communicate. The only exception was three days in Paris as part of a school trip where we went to London first, and the embarrassment I felt every time I had to ask someone if they spoke English is probably what’s fueling this fear. I live within driving distance of Mexico and have never been, despite taking Spanish in school for years. So yeah, some day I’d like to go to the Mediterranean and just chill if I need to use my phone for help. Or even Mexico. It’s right there!

Last book you read: I’ve got about an hour left of Reputation by Lex Chroucher and am enjoying it. The audiobook narrator does a fantastic job.

Last book you enjoyed reading: Going to pick a different book here and say Boyfriend Material.(Also loved the audiobook narration!) (Very much looking forward to Husband Material!) @bookish-bogwitch crafted an amazing ending bingo for it and I’m SO ready!

Last book you hated reading: I am slogging through the last Mirror Visitor book. I’ve been reading a few pages at a time for months and it is just so slow and boring. I devoured the first three and I can’t tell if Snowbaz brain rot is affecting my engagement or if it’s truly that bad. I turned my friend on to these books and he’s been anxiously waiting to talk to me about the last one and I just…can’t muster the will to read it for longer than ten minutes at a time. RIP. I also hated the narrator who read House on the Cerrulean Sea, so I abandoned that one even though everyone adores that book. Oh well!

Favorite thing to cook/bake: Cookies, scones, bars, pies. I never bake unless it’s a holiday because I can’t control myself if I make something like this and then have a massive amount there. I used to love cooking soups, stir fries and casseroles but having picky children turn their noses up at something I spent an hour or more making really makes me hate cooking these days. The 7 year old is getting more adventurous but the 3 year old hates dinners on principle so I phone it in a lot.

Favorite craft to do in your spare time: Spare time? What is this you speak of? I am not super crafty. I’ve tried a few things over the years but usually abandon these hobbies after a few attempts. I’m frankly shocked I’m still writing fic almost a year later because hobbies don’t usually stick for me. Does weeding and gardening count as crafting? It’s almost an art right? I do like being out in the sun with my hands in the dirt and seeing the way my yard evolves.

Most niche dislikes: This is a fun question. I doubt my dislikes are very niche. I hate the feeling of like a stray hair on my arm or wrapped around a finger. I dislike cilantro. I have a hard time watching a kid attempt a task that is far above their skill level. Watching them struggle when they are almost about to succeed is a joy but watching say, a kid try to open something you know they literally can’t drives me mad. Just give it to me so I can do it and we can move on!

Opinions on circuses, now and in history: What a weird question. Never been to a circus. Closest was a Cirque du Soleil performance which was amazing. I like books about circuses like Water for Elephants and Night Circus. That’s all I got. I feel like this question is trying to get you to say circuses in the past (maybe also now) are bad because of the way they treat animals. And like, you make that decision yourself. You don’t need me to tell you what to think.

Do you have a sense of direction, if not what is the worst way you’ve gotten lost: If I am with someone else I will often miss a turn from chatting and not paying attention so the other person’s ability to co-pilot is critical. I followed @fatalfangirl around in Vegas and just assumed they knew what was up. (Lol sorry I wasn’t helpful!) If I’m by myself I can usually focus and manage. I often have dreams of needing to get somewhere and just not fucking managing because a thousand obstacle get in the way. Worst gotten lost story: some friends and I in our early 20s miscalculated how long it would take to float down a river. We found ourselves with slowly deflating rafts, while it got dark, with no flashlights, and the river had turned away from the roads. We tried to beach our rafts and walk but found a bear instead. Oops, back in the rafts we went. Then we made it to a dam that we had to get out and walk around but we couldn’t find the path, only a path going the other way to the highway so we ditched our boats and followed the path in the dark, ignoring sounds of wildlife. Finally made it to the road and got picked up by a very nice older couple who probably took pity on us because we looked like their kids or something. When we went back to get our boats the next day the path around the dam was very easy to find by the light of day and we were like…a 20 minute float from our campsite LOL. Good times. I can laugh about it now but it was Not Fun when it was happening.
