(S)PAIN ~
I visited Barcelona months ago with 2 friends and I really like it. I've been to Spain 2 times already and this country never disappoints. For my second trip, I wanted to do a nail art inspired by Spain. The vibes are definitely here lol.
A girl complimented my nails when I was visiting the Guëll Park with my friend. I'm always so shy when strangers notice my nails but it's also heartwarming of course.
Polishes I used :
Essie : Beat The Clock
Essie : Color Binge
Hema : Sunny Flowers
White Polish

Welcome to my last post of my three part Europe series! Make sure you’ve checked out PARIS and PORTUGAL. On the last part of the trip we visited Barcelona for two days and stayed in Hotel Novotel in Barcelona City. This was probably the best hotel we stayed in the entire two weeks as it was next to a lively plaza with food and shopping. The hotel had a breakfast buffet included in the mornings which was nice and it had a pool on the top floor with a gorgeous view of the city. Today I am going to share with you my 8 favourite things that we saw/did in Barcelona.
8. TEPPAN-YA
Teppan-ya was a unique Japanese tapas restaurant that we went to on our first night. It was within walking distance of our hotel located on Carrer de Lepant, 347, 08025 Barcelona, Spain. If you are in need of a cool place to eat dinner this is definitely it! They served Japanese tapas that were cooked right in front of you, while you got to wear a kimono which was such a fun experience. The desserts there were so good as well.
7. PARK GUËLL
To get to Park Guëll we took a hop on hop off bus. Park Guëll has so many stunning view points of Barcelona. You can see all of the key tourist attractions from different view points and the walk through the park is a nice way to spend the morning. In so many of the corners you can hear different people playing their music live – which contributes to the lively atmosphere of the park. If you are in need of a snack, lunch or a treat, walk down a street near the park and you can find some cool food places or some really yummy ice cream places – for example my sister found these macaroon ice cream sandwiches which looked delicious.
6. TIBIDABO
Tibidabo is an adventure because to get there you have to take a bus up the mountain and then another gondola which means that you are really on top of the city – we also had to ride the hop and hop off bus to get to the first bus so it was A LOT. Because of what it takes to get there you know that you are going to get an incredible panoramic view that is definitely worth it. The castle is beautiful as well. When we were at the top of the mountain we experienced some tropical rain I would say, as it lasted about 15 minutes – which made it even more of an adventure.
5. CERVECERIA CATALANA
Cerveceria Catalana is a tapas restaurant located on Carrer de Mallorca, 236, 08008 Barcelona, Spain. Its a few blocks down from las Ramblas and a nice walk so when visiting the famous street make sure to go a few blocks down to this restaurant and try a few tapas. Also make sure you try some of the desserts – everything is so good!

4. LA RAMBLA – MERCAT DE LA BOQUERIE
La rambla was a really lively street with so many shops and alleys going into food places. This is a must see in Barcelona FOR SURE! In the market you can buy so many different treats, drinks and snacks and you can also sit and have lunch at any of the tapas places surrounding the market. We did all of these things; tried some juices, fudge squares and of course had lunch at at a store surrounding the market called Karaköy.

3. THE PIER
The pier is towards the end of La Rambla and it is another must see in Barcelona. You can walk around the pier and enjoy the water and palm trees, there is even a beach. The pier was one of my favourite parts of Barcelona as it was super relaxing and beautiful. Make sure you grab a slushy or a lemonade from one of the street vendors and walk along the pier for at least half an hour during your stay between all of the sight seeing fun.
2. PARC DE MONTJUIC AT NIGHT
This parc is home to the magic water fountain of Montjuic and every night it puts on a show with lights and music. It is such a nice and relaxing lively show and was probably one of the biggest highlights of my entire trip. We took a hop on hop off bus here and cabified back to our hotel as there is no uber in Barcelona. This is a definite MUST SEE in Barcelona, you cannot miss it as it is fun and free! The night show starts at 9:30 but click here to see the times for the months that you are there.
1. SAGRADA FAMILLIA
This was the HIGHLIGHT of Barcelona for sure and the first tourist attraction that we decided to check out. The Sagrada Famillia was designed by architect Gaudí and has been in construction since 1882, it is anticipated that the church will be finished in 2026 so only 8 years from today. We actually walked from our hotel to this church and it wasn’t that far at all. Make sure when you are there you check it out from all angles as there is so much detail everywhere that you do not want to miss. This church was so beautiful and I absolutely loved how bright it was inside because it made the atmosphere very peaceful. The headset tour is a must to learn all about the intricate details put into the church. You can also visit a museum inside the church so definitely do not miss out on that. If you have time make sure to check out Gaudí’s house: Passeig de Gràcia. We visited his house from the outside but if you would like to you can also head inside the now turned exhibition.
Gaudí’s House
That’s it for this years Europe trip! Don’t forget to check out my PARIS and PORTUGAL posts as well. Thank you so much for reading, hope you had a great summer! Let me know in the comments either where you went this summer or a European country you really want to visit.

Blog 1: El Turismo Responsable
¡Hola todos! Bienvenido a mi primera publicación.
Amor Siempre,
Julia Mercado

Heading for the hills
Day two in Barcelona started once again with a little wander around Gràcia, before heading north towards Park Guëll.
Park Guëll contains a collection of structures designed by Antoni Gaudí, the architect of many of Barcelona's iconic buildings like the Sagrada Familia.
The central part of the park with the most significant of the structures is paid-entry only for 10 euros – however when I was there it was somewhat disappointing as a good chunk of the park was under maintenance, and even what was open wasn't necessarily worth the fee.
So I left the "Monumental Zone" as its called, and went into the public park. Which I probably enjoyed much more, as not only is it far larger – it offers better views too!
As I reached the top of the park, I sought out a lookout – which offered this expansive view over the whole city.
I had originally intended to visit the church and theme park on the hill pictured above, however, the funicular up there was closed and the bus cost over 10 euros and took twice as long. So I'll just have to visit again another time.
Some of the everpresent pro-Catalan graffiti.
Next up, I walked further along the ridge to the Bunkers of Carmel. Abandoned bunkers that housed anti-aircraft guns in the Spanish Civil War, this site now offers another good vantage point over Barcelona.
It also has a rather direct path back down to the base of the hills, so that was handy. From there, I could walk about 15mins to the Metro station to head back to my accommodation.

Barcelona Summary.
The trip to Barcelona was an eye-opener, and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time there. However, I have decided that my findings from the trip are not going to be a focus for my FMP.-
I was inspired by a lot of the things I saw like Picasso's early work (sketches, prints, paintings, ceramics and ink drawings) in the Picasso museum. Walking past many of the buildings and their façades was interesting to look at and draw but I realised that for primary research I would need more images of these places. I sketched a little in my travel sketchbook, making few rubbings and drawings of Gaudís lamposts and tile designs from the pavements, which I thought were a great subtle edition to Barcelona's bustling city streets.
Once home, I took the time to study a few buildings in more detail. The places I had been to such as the Sagrada Familia, museum nacional de Catalunya (MNAC),Park Guëll and the Jaume Plensa exhibit in MACBA were a few personal favourites of mine from the trip. I also after visiting these places came to really like and find inspiration in Gaudís style, designs and work.
One of the things I gained most out of the trip was the visits to Museums/galleries. We were given a artticket passport, allowing us access to a different range of galleries/museums in Barcelona. This was great because CCCB,MNAC,MACBA and the Picasso museum were included. CCCB held a Stanley Kubrick exhibition and in MACBA a Jaume Plensa. MNAC held some of Gaudís door/furniture designs and I made the most out of going around the museum.
The pictures on my blog from these places may come in useful for ideas later on with whatever I choose to do. I think they can serve as a source of inspiration or a reminder of the things I discovered and learnt more about over there. //
