i have completed my collection! 

they’re arranged in a mirror so i’ll just go over the blue side.

from left to right... 

1981: golion | 1984: DOTU | 1998: v3d | 2017: vld (duh) | 2018: DOTU remake

the ugly figures are from panosh place, supposedly based on DOTU designs but neither of the faces resemble those characters lol. 

the 1981 red lion has a detachable head that won’t stay on, so i guess she’ll just be chilling like that.

the photo in the background was signed by bj ward! i didn’t meet her though; i just got it on ebay. (still praying for something signed by michael bell...)

1981: golion

these ones are pretty banged up. i spent like an hour cleaning the blue one, but the red one didn’t take too long to do as much as one could do. 

that detachable head...i might try hot-gluing it, hm. 

the blue one is significantly larger than the red one, for obvious reasons.

1984: DOTU

i love the way their legs were done; it’s really cute! not the cutest faces, however. 

only the blue lion has a canopy/cockpit big enough to fit its pilot inside.

less of a dramatic difference in size here. 

1998: V3D

only the red and green lions had canopies/cockpits in this version. they did come with tiny figures, but those are near-impossible to find, and the figures were pretty indistinguishable anyway. 

very dramatic size difference here! red is so tiny, aw. 

2017: VLD

these were in target for a long time. not much to say about them, except that they’re definitely the most dramatic departure from the original 1981 toy design. they look more like lions who are also robots rather than robots who resemble lions.  

not much of a size difference, but blue is definitely the larger of the two.

2018: DOTU remake

i really love these ones. they’re big and beautiful. the blue lion’s face design from the 80′s always really appealed to me.
