Alice, who always seemed to look upon her memories with happiness and joy (because she loved life, even if she didn’t understand life, she loved Oswald, Oz, Levi, and Alyss).

Oz—whose feelings rereaders now know as dread because his memories of Sablier were of pain and anguish as a chain forced to slaughter everyone.

THE ZOOM. A first time reader would’ve been like, “Oh, it’s a zoom on past!Alice which is why Oz is affected” BUT NO!!! Rereaders know!!! He’s affected because he sees himself!!! Mochijun you genius, you you you! Mochijun was giggling to herself, I’m sure of it! It’s not a zoom on Alice, it’s a zoom on Oz-Plushie!!!

Also this!!! It’s supposed to make the reader think Oz is receiving Jack’s feelings, about Jack’s ‘remorse’ of not wanting to kill his best friend, but NO!!! IT’S OZ’S FEELINGS!!! It’s Oz! It’s always been Oz! Mochijun I love you so much, I love the seeds you plant that make us all feel like idiots upon rereading.

Actually curious as to what people’s general opinion of Ozbert is in this year of 2023. Does shipping them equate to getting hashtag cancelled? Are they still The OTP of the series?? Or are they strictly Platonic Besties For Life. I do not know

It’s weird tho bc obviously if you’ve read the manga you KNOW their situation is very Complicated™️. When they were both the same age it was fine but then Oz got yeeted into the Abyss and time jumped 10 years forward while he was in there for like 3 days and suddenly Gil’s like. 9 years older than him. But then Uncle Oscar still classifies Oz as being 25 even tho he’s physically 15. And then we find out that Oz’s body isn’t even HIS it belongs to Jack so that’s messed up. AND we find out Gil’s actually not just 24 he’s OVER 100 years old bc Baskerville shit. And THEN we find out Oz is actually the true B Rabbit so that makes it so he’s probably even older than Gil is. When we get to the end of the series they’re both canonically confirmed to be hundred(s) of years old so I’m sitting here like. Well,

Hi ! Sorry if this was already asked previously but I was wondering, have you read Pandora Hearts as well ? Some thoughts on it if the answer is yes maybe ? (Favorite characters, favorite arc or plotline ?)

I have! I read it back when I was in high school, and I reread it in full earlier this year. I'm not as obsessive a fan as I am for VnC, but I'm still quite fond of it :).

I think Oz was my favorite character back when I was a teen, but my #1 fav these days is absolutely Gil. There is something deeply wrong with that man and I adore him for it. I'm also quite fond of Oswald and Alice.

Plot-wise, two of my favorite moments are the conclusion of the Eliot and Leo arc (including the Big Eliot Moment that I won't name bc spoilers) and Gil's big triumphant return to Oz after the de-arming. The whole "Why do you have to be real?" scene is. waugh. I adore how unhinged Gil is and I get a kick out of all the scenes where he's contemplating doing something horrible, but him genuinely unconditionally loving Oz and helping him out of a crisis is even more top-tier.

I'm also a big fan of all the Jack, Lacie, and Oswald backstory chapters. And the little bonus chapter of the trio trying to dress and cook without Gil's arm 🥺🥺.

Might be in part because I just finished rereading PH, but something about the recent big reveals regarding Allen in DGM is reminding me of Oz Pandorahearts. Allen Walker the clown/exorcist does not exist in the same way that Oz Vessalius the human heir to the dukedom does not exist.

Both are these already very troubled teenagers that have to deal with finding out they had entire previous lives that they do not remember, and the lives they've been living for the past decade plus are really just the accidents of amnesia and external meddling. They're constructions. Neither of them even own their bodies, since Oz's body is really Jack's, and Allen's body was pledged to Nea in another life (not to mention that Apocryphos and the Innocence completely remade Allen's body, so he arguably doesn't own it in that sense either).

Pandora Hearts spoilers ahead.

Hear me out: Gilbert had it the worst.

Gilbert starts out his childhood by being sold to the circus because of Vincent. He then runs away with Vincent and they live on the street. He never leaves Vincent (this part is his fault) because he feels like he has to stay and it keeps him on the street. When he finally gets to a happy place, he's immediately brain washed. He never gets a chance to get the brain washing removed because of the ceremony going wrong. The ceremony had him being slashed across the back and almost killed before staying in the abyss for ~100 years.

Then he gets out of the abyss and has a good five years of life. Oscar treats him well, Oz teases him but treats him well, and Ada treats him well. He's got his little found family arc. Then Oz gets tossed into the abyss after he's slashed across the chest. He knows Zai did it but no one listens. He's quickly taken advantage of by Break and whisked away from his found family to years of abuse.

Gilbert is now with the Nightrays and gets abused. Vincent loves him and Elliot, despite refusing to admit it, likes him. That's it. He's also stressing about Pandora, stressing about Raven, stressing about Vincent, stressing about Break, and avoiding Oscar because he's ashamed of being a traitor. Thankfully he finally gets Raven and everything should be good now. Right?

Wrong. Alice gets Oz out of the abyss. Gilbert did all of that for NOTHING. He lost his family and the only place he's been safe for nothing. Ten years of abuse for nothing. And the worst part? Oz is going to die. Gilbert failed to save Oz in so many ways.

Now, many people died and you can say that's bad. Break is gone meaning Reim, Sharon, and Sheryl have lost him. All of the Nightrays have gone and Elliot left Leo alone. Ada no longer has family. But Gilbert is going to watch them all die. It's implied he may have even watched the other Baskervilles die. Vincent dies in his arms.

And when Oz and Alice finally return, he's nearing the end. How long will he even have with them? Maybe 50 years, maybe two days. Who knows?

He waited ten years and barely spent time with Oz, during which multiple people died. Pandora Hearts probably took place in a few months and all of those people died so fast. He waited 100 years and watched everyone die just to barely spend time with Oz.

Gilbert had it the worst.
