Noemi Conan, born in Warsaw, Poland in 1987. Lives and works in London tells"
"I was born in Warsaw but raised in a small town in the West of Poland called Boleslawiec, also known as Bunzlau, which is quite close to the German-Czech border and is known for its distinctive ceramic decoration. It's a small town, probably 40,000 to 50,000 inhabitants. I was a teenager when Poland joined the EU and quite a lot of people left. I remember it as a town with just children, old people, and single mums because everyone else who could’ve left to work somewhere that paid better, did so as soon as it was possible. I had left Poland on occasions when I’d go to work in other European countries over the summer and then return home for school or university during the academic year. I would spend all of my summers in the Netherlands or Germany, working picking strawberries or tulips, or working in horrible cafes. But I officially moved away in 2015.
I only started painting aged 30, before which I spent a lot of my time in the usual, low-skilled jobs that migrants do. I left Poland aged 21 and travelled around Europe, spending a year in Norway working as a flight attendant for RyanAir - legends.
During this time I was based in Oslo where it's not quite 24 hours of sunshine, but the sun would set at 11pm, it would be dark for two hours and then it would be bright again. I didn’t mind the winters so much, I guess being from the Northern Hemisphere you acclimatise to going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. But having sunlight both day and night in the summer was extreme and really messed with my head. Over the summers I became rather neurotic but I didn’t really think about it much until later when I saw an Edvard Munch exhibition with those weird green skies. They are usually winter-scapes but the sickliness of the sky immediately transported me back to that crazy year in Norway where I wasn’t sleeping because I didn’t know how to deal with the sunlight continually blaring through the windows. It's a weird environment to be thrown into." Continue

Chinese New Year: A Global Festival Beyond Asia
Every year, when the first new moon of the lunar calendar begins to wax, a wave of red lanterns, firecrackers, and jubilant parades sweeps over not just Asia but cast its crimson glow across the world. Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is a vibrant and soulful celebration deeply ingrained in Chinese culture and heritage, yet its grandeur resonates with millions globally. Let's embark on a fascinating journey to witness how this majestic festival paints the town red, all around the planet!
The Universal Appeal of Tradition
Tradition doesn't just reside within geographic boundaries; it transcends them. Chinese New Year is a testament to this as communities from Sydney to San Francisco, London to Lagos, come together to embrace the spirit of renewal, hope, and prosperity that the festival signifies. It's a time when the ancient rituals and colorful folklore of the East blend seamlessly with the diverse cultures and modern vibes of cities around the world.
Celebrations Around the Globe
Imagine the thunderous beats of drums and the sharp clack of clashing cymbals; feel the exhilaration as the Dragon Dance snakes its way through the bustling streets of Chinatowns everywhere! From Asia to the farthest reaches of the West, these iconic traditions have found a home, bringing with them a splash of culture and an invitation to communal feasting and reflection.
In Malaysia and Singapore, the streets come alive with decorations and performances, while families gather for the "reunion dinner," embracing the core values of family and community. Meanwhile, in the heart of London, a mesmerizing parade draws thousands, witnessing a fusion of English and Chinese festivities.
Across the Pacific, North America holds its own with cities like New York, Vancouver, and San Francisco hosting grand events - their Chinatowns pulsating with life and festivity, transforming the environs into a microcosm of the East.
A Time for Renewal and Prosperity
As we ring in the New Year with good food and vibrant celebrations, let’s not forget the underlying promise of a fresh start. This is a time to sweep away any ill-fortune and welcome incoming good luck with open arms and hearts full of ambition.
Delving into Diverse Practices
While the essence of Chinese New Year remains constant, local flavors and customs lend each celebration its own unique twist. In Indonesia, it's a national holiday reflective of the country's recognition of cultural diversity. The Philippines, with its considerable Chinese population, revels in street parties and sumptuous feasts celebrating both cultural harmony and delicious gastronomy!
Embracing the Future
As we joyously participate in these world celebrations, let us also remember the profound lessons they impart. These global festivities of Chinese New Year highlight the beauty of cultural exchange and the power of tradition to unite different peoples under the banner of shared celebration. The ubiquity of the festival underscores the universal themes of hope, resurgence, and the communal joy of ushering in better days.
Conclusion
As the brilliant fireworks dissolve into the night sky the world over, Chinese New Year stands as a glistening reminder that joy, much like the full moon, is round and complete when shared. So, no matter where you find yourself when the next Chinese New Year dawns, remember that you're part of a worldwide cadre who's celebrating not just a tradition rooted in time, but the ever-growing tree of human connection. Here's to a New Year filled with happiness, health, and prosperity. Oh, and don't forget to share your festivities with us. Tag us, and let's paint social media red with the splendor of Chinese New Year - together!
Remember, it's not just a festival; it's a global phenomenon that underscores our unity as a global village, festively tied with the reddest of strings. Join in the revelry, indulge in the spirit, and experience the magnificence that is Chinese New Year, wherever you may be. Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Why professional Commercial Painting Services are important?
Working places are imperfect without painting. It is not possible to provide a working atmosphere for employees until the place is painted properly. Therefore, to make sure that your place is painted properly, you must have to consider the professional Commercial Painting Services London. I made a professional gym a few years ago. On that time, I had ordered the professional machinery and my budget was already over. Hence, I don’t have money to hire professional painters and decorators. I discuss my issue with my neighbour and he refers to a friend who can provide the painting services. I was happy that my issue got resolved easily. I hire painters immediately and start working.
Tumblr media
I had to go to Brighton to meet my parents. They won’t come while I was shifted to London. So, I visit them whenever I can. I stay for five days. And when I came back to London I was shocked by seeing the paints at my gym. They were horrible. I simply hate the result and the painter was asking for money. I don’t want to even discuss what he did to my place. I gave him money and asked him to leave. I called my neighbour and show him the paints. He was also not happy by the results but he won’t agree that the results were utterly disgusting. I don’t have more money to invest on the paints. I tried to cover most of the walls by the gm posters and start the gym. The people who came to the gym were not impressed by the decoration hence, they mostly didn’t come back. Only a few people who value the machinery join the gym. I faced loss due to that reason. After three months of loss, I start finding a professional who can provide commercial painting services in London.
I search many companies on Google and after reading the reviews of public, I select 3 companies. I visit them so, that I can look at their standards as I can’t afford to hire any local. I like 2 companies after the visit. I took a quotation from them. And hire the company which was better in rates and services. I had to invest little more money as I was correcting the paints. After the services of professional commercial painters, my gym got famous as the neat and classic gym in the town. I suggest if you want the positive earnings from the commercial place then never compromise on the paintings and decoration. Because the customers only stay if the look of your place is nice. North West London Builders LTD is the best well-reputed company in the UK which is offering the outstanding Commercial Painting Services London. You can hire them if you are looking for the astonishing and outstanding results. The prices are completely affordable hence, never compromise on the quality of paints and get the perfect results by hiring their professionals.

Best 2019 Painting and Decorating Trends in London according to Professionals.
Painting and Decorating themes in 2019 that are popular are going to be in trend for a while as these are styles that started with the change of an era, more than that, they are mouldable and can change according to the need of the owner. Colours can be incorporated and taken out the style of furniture can be changed and two different styles can be incorporated. This is why Painters and Decorators in London are on top of their game and ready for any challenge.
Tumblr media
We contacted a few of the designers, fortunately, North West London Builders responded to our email with an abundance of information on these trends and other general information. So, let’s get started with the best one.
1.    Transitional
Transitional is the perfect mix for a creative generation, this theme helps work with the right amount of both Modern and Traditional Styles, it is a mixture of different materials from Modern designs such as Glass, Steel, Aluminium, etc. with other traditional materials, such as Fur (Faux Fur), Velvet, Soft textures and furniture. This design can be edited into any look that you may be comfortable with.
2.    Scandinavian
This is one of the designs that will last due to its relevance in the world today, with the need for conservation of energy, the use of space in an optimal way, the need for improvement in the quality of life. This design aims to maximize the use of space without becoming congested, it is all in light colours, mostly white to help with the light and ventilation. The temperature control is also good with the lighter colours, however, you can give it a feeling of customization through colourful sculptures and pieces according to the Painters and Decorators in London.
3.    Industrial
Industrial look stems from the rise of the Industrial Revolution, it is one of the looks that incorporates the raw look of bricks, metal and glass to give a sense of factory and mills, it is a nostalgic look if you are into the revolutionary looks and it makes a statement.
4.    Traditional
This is a look that can be attributed to the older times and historic look from the Victorian era, it is the usual look for each room that invokes a sense of deeply rooted nostalgia and makes you think about the older times in a pleasant manner. The use of Rust, Red and Browns in abundant in the form of Word and Wooden furniture.
5.    Mid-Century Modern
Mid-Century is a look appreciated by Painters and Decorators that they believe may last for another few years but may run out of fashion after that due to its incorporation of a certain era that may become irrelevant after a while. This style can become better with the incorporation of other designs however and that is why it is loved.

How to find good building companies in North west London.
The summer winds are here and its time people take up their building hats and start creating, may it be renovations on what may already exist or just building an addition to what you have, to creation of something new, you can get everything you want done in style. There are many different companies that provide you the service you desire and can make dream works, while on the other hand there are companies that make extremely huge mistakes in the foundations and are basically able to con people because the outside looks good, it starts to unfold when the foundation only holds for a year or two. This is why it is important to find the right Building companies in North west London. There are too many things that need to be checked and that is not all, there are laws that need to be followed by the companies that you chose. This is important for you and your homes future if you wish to make the right choices.
Tumblr media
The signs to see when a company is working against the government policies are simple, Read the government policies, they are all available in your town or your county’s Website. There are other building companies in North west London that take their time and don’t just wing it, making you responsible if the rules are not followed. The planning permissions and other contracts need to be handled properly and good companies know how to do that, this is why it is important to go through their services and see what they provide in great detail. Remember, you are on a website to see a company’s services not their style of webpages. Many times people are heard saying this about companies in general about how if the website or webpage looks bad the services must be bad, but the company is not about graphics,
they don’t have to have a great page, just great information and you can find that at their website, no matter how it looks. The company should be able to offer you multiple services including the exterior and interior, the proof of the work done before and building plans. Now these all don’t need to necessarily be mentioned in the website as most companies don’t include everything they do on their website. This is why they often provide you with a customer service number and it ca be used to contact them and get the information you need and the information that will help you in your building. There are plenty of ways to contact a company and the best companies always provide you a quote, which means a rough estimate of the amount of money you need, such as North west London Builders LTD, they are one of the biggest building companies in North West London Right at the moment and their website can be used as the prime example.

textile designer Margo still lives in North West London, in the family home that she grew up in. She has decorated every room in the house with her trademark vibrant palette of rich colors and uses her home to try out new ideas.
Tumblr media
You’ll eventually notice that she seems to like dots. Every wall has the same wallpaper, but in different colors.
Tumblr media
A sofa, the first piece of furniture designed by her, takes center stage.
Tumblr media
Various designer-maker friends often give Margo pieces of their work at craft and design fairs, swapping them for her pieces from her collections. These pieces now have pride of place in Margo’s home, complimenting the hand made quality of her own work.
Tumblr media
Margo laid new wooden floors throughout the house and painted the few walls that she has not covered in her wallpaper designs with bold colors.
Tumblr media
She has decorated every room in the house with her trademark vibrant palette of rich colors and uses her home to try out new ideas.
Tumblr media
Her work cleverly combines surprising color combinations to create stunning three dimensional designs.
Tumblr media
Margo’s father updated the property, adding an industrial style kitchen from which he ran a successful catering and event business. Margo softened the kitchen by painting it bright colors and altering it to suit her needs.
Tumblr media
She also designed the bedspread and pillows. The fabrics are initially made on a small hand loom, working to mix the colors by eye.
Tumblr media
She’s realized that she loves living with yellow and green and that she likes light spaces.

500-Year-Old Tudor Wall Paintings Discovered at Medieval Manor in England
Restorers at Calverley Old Hall, a medieval manor in Yorkshire, England, recently turned their attention to a “very undistinguished little bedroom,” reports Mark Brown for the Guardian.
Peeling away the room’s 19th-century plaster, they were “gobsmacked” by what they spotted hidden below: Tudor wall paintings, likely dated to the reign of Elizabeth I (1558 to 1603), on a scale rarely found in England today.
The find is “the discovery of a lifetime,” Anna Keay, director of the Landmark Trust, which is restoring the building, tells the Guardian.
“Never in my own 27 years of working in historic buildings have I ever witnessed a discovery like this,” writes Keay in a blog post. “Hidden paneling, yes, little snatches of decorative painting, once or twice. But an entire painted chamber absolutely lost to memory, a time machine to the age of the Reformation and the Virgin Queen, never.”
Experts are now working to preserve the floor-to-ceiling paintings (essentially Tudor wallpaper), which feature mythical creatures and climbing vines in red, white and black. Painted in the exaggerated grotesque style, the artwork is patterned after designsinspired by the Golden House of Roman Emperor Nero—that became popular in England during the 16th century.
“[W]e are transported from a dusty, dilapidated building into the rich and cultured world of the Elizabethan Calverleys, a well-educated family keen to display their learning and wealth by demonstrating their appreciation of Renaissance culture,” writes Landmark historian Caroline Stanford in a separate blog post. “The Calverley paintings are very carefully planned, in a vertical design that uses the timber studwork as a framework.”
Depicting swirls, teethed birds, little men in triangular hats and other fanciful figures, the wall paintings were hidden behind a studded wall covered in plaster. Stanford posits that the historic estate’s 19th-century owners were trying to protect the Tudor artwork.
“Someone obviously realized that the paintings were things of wonder and beauty and deserved to be treated carefully and maybe one day somebody would come along and find them again,” she tells the Guardian. “That’s us.”
Exactly when the wall paintings were completed is unclear, but Grace Newman of the Yorkshire Post reports that timber dating of the artworks’ frame offered a likely range of between the 1540s and 1580s. (The earlier end of this estimate falls under the reigns of Henry VIII, who died in 1547; Edward VI, who died in 1553; and Mary I, who died in 1558.) Landmark preservationists are now evaluating the paintings to determine how best to care for them.
“Lots of complex questions have now arisen. When exactly they were painted, ... how best to preserve them, how to furnish and service a room with such spectacular surviving decoration,” notes Keay in the blog post. “But their importance cannot be doubted. With them a slice of the lives of our ancestors has been restored to us, and nothing comes close to that.”
The Landmark Trust acquired the manor in 1981 and has been actively involved in restoration of the site. To properly conserve the wall paintings, the charity has issued a public appeal for more than $125,000, reports Mark Stanford for the Telegraph & Argus.
Located about 200 miles north of London in West Yorkshire, Calverley Old Hall traces its origins to the 12th century, when the Scot family—later known as the Calverleys—built a small stone house at the site. According to Landmark’s website, the team found the wall paintings in a parlor block constructed in the 1520s by Walter Calverley, who was knighted by Henry VIII.
Per its website, Landmark “rescues important buildings that would otherwise be lost” and makes them available as vacation rentals. The nonprofit owns 200 homes in Britain and Italy.
“At a stroke,” adds the charity,” these paintings raise our perception of Calverley Old Hall from its currently crumbling state to its civilized existence at the height of the English Renaissance.”

Providence parlour, c. 1760-1770, Minneapolis Institute of Art: Decorative Arts, Textiles and Sculpture
This architecturally important room was the informal parlor of a house built in about 1772 in Providence, Rhode Island. Other rooms from the house are owned by the Brooklyn Museum and the Denver Art Museum. The house, while modified, still stands on North Main Street (then King Street). The classically inspired front doorway of the house includes an impressive arched pediment above Corinthian pilasters. The design of the doorway and the paneled interior of the parlor, with dentil molding and elaborate triangular pediment, were taken from popular 18th-century pattern books, including Batty Langley's widely circulated The Builder's Compleat Assistant (London, 1738). The original owner of the house was Joseph Russell, a prosperous merchant in the West Indies trade who sold exotic goods. Russell's daughter, Susan Conde Russell, married John Corlis in 1790, and shortly thereafter acquired her father's home. Installed in 1923, the Providence Parlor was the first American period room in the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and was originally furnished by the Friends of the Institute. Through later restorations to its original paint color and proportions, the Providence Parlor provides a rare glimpse into the life of the Russell-Corlis family in late-18th-century New England. Places in London to visit that doesn’t feel like the Capital!
Tumblr media
One of London’s best things is that it’s very diverse and doesn’t always look or feel like London. There are plenty of things to do and places in London to visit, but sometimes it can be overwhelming to pick out one particular place. When it comes to travelling in London, it’s easy to go about doing the same old routines and hanging out in our go-to spots. Whether it’s a night out with the girls at a groovy night club or chilling with the boys at a local pub, or strolling around the city with your significant other in usual comfort zones.
Yes, we as humans are creatures of habit, and tend to do the everyday, recurring things. But I think you’ll agree with me when I say that it is good to mix up things every now and then! Luckily, there are places in London to visit, which are full of surprises and fascinating escapes that will give your regular travel routine a good appal. And it’s bound to make you feel you’ve travelled miles away from the city. Here’s a list of unique places in London to visit that might not look or feel like it! Try something out of the box, something inspirational, and it can be in your own back yard!
Little Venice
Where are you? In Venice, Italy
Have you always wanted to visit Venice and take a romantic gondola ride, but never had the chance? Well, the good news is that you can have the same experience right at home in Little Venice! This lovely hidden gem and an eccentric area located in a suburban area of Maida Vale in North London. It is swarming with colourful houseboats and quaint cafes. Nestled between the Great Union Canal and Regent’s Canal. Little Venice is one of the most popular places in London to visit that will make you feel that you’re not in London! Take a boat trip in Little Venice as you cruise down the canal that mimics the Venetian lagoon and the romantic gondola ride.
Kew Gardens
Where are you? In Japan
My next choice is the Kew Gardens, the largest UNESCO World Heritage Site in London and the perfect escape from the city’s rush. The gardens are home to the most diverse collection of living plants globally, and it’s the perfect place for a day out. Discover beautiful Japanese sculpted landscape, the iconic Palm House and its exotic rainforest. I’m certain that a visit to this place will have you imagine that you’re on a getaway in Japan, finding your inner Zen in a peaceful setting.
Vertical Chill
Where are you? Climbing Mt. Everest
Feel like going on an extreme mountaineering experience, but you’re stuck in London? Don’t worry, there’s just the solution to your cold whim! Swap the icy climes of Mt. Everest for Covent Garden instead, where you’ll find, Vertical Chill an imposing tall wall of ice, just waiting to be conquered. It offers the same rush and all the exhilaration without the risk of frostbite and frozen meals.
Ruislip Lido
Where are you? In the Mediterranean
Out of the places in London to visit, Ruislip Lido is my absolute favourite! Well, maybe it’s because I love me some sunshine and this is the perfect place to soak in some rays! Okay, yes, I know that London’s sunshine is not as strong as the Mediterranean’s rays, but you can still find that quiet beach vibes. Ruislip Lido is a large lake surrounded by golden sand, making it a wonderful place for sunbathers, long walks and picnics.
Crystal Palace Park Dinosaur Sculptures
Where are you? In Indonesia
When you’re travelling in London, make sure to pay a visit to the Crystal Palace Park. This will be a superb activity for the kids! This park is a Victorian theme park located in south-east London. However, the park consists of 30 palaeontological statues, five geological displays, and Indo-like landscape. The not-so-accurate collection of concrete lizards are scattered around the park’s lakes, for kids of all ages to enjoy!
Leighton House Museum
Where are you? In Turkey
Yes! You’ll definitely have the Turkish vibes with its bold Middle-Eastern decor, and warm ambience. Leighton House Museum is named as the place ‘where east meets west’. It is located in the heart of Kensington, London. This was once a home of artist Frederic, Lord Leighton and is the product of an artistic vision that ran wild. The museum is filled with paintings of the artist. But it’s the ‘Arab Hall’ that’s the real deal, a large domed room covered in tiles and mosaics will make you forget which continent you’re in.
Shri Swaminarayan Mandir
Where are you? In India
Popularly known as the ‘Neasden Temple’, is a Hindu worship place located at a beautiful setting and is one of the biggest Hindu temples outside India. Shri Swaminarayan Mandir isn’t on every tourist’s ‘must-visit’ list but is one of the best places in London to visit. It was built out of Bulgarian limestone and Italian marble, carved by hand in India before assembling it in London. When you enter the temple, filled with beautiful carvings and shrines of Hindu deities, you’ll instantly feel you’re on Indian soil.
