What is UP with Evilive and Australia???

(This is a joke btw and not at all serious I love this show)

Okay, so I haven't heard of an 'E2' class Australian visa. No big deal. But it made me curious as to what it was, so I briefly looked for information on what visas Australia had in 2008 and...I couldn't find anything referencing an E2 visa for someone emigrating from South Korea to Australia. What I can find is an E2 class visa for someone emigrating from Australia to South Korea. I can also find an E2 visa for someone emigrating to the US.

So: 1. I'm dumb and missed something. 2. The writers were familiar with E2 visas because South Korea has them, and the US has them, so like...who would notice?

(Side note: They are emigrating to Sydney!!! Whoo NSW representation!!!)

But this...this was what broke me:

Okay. So, you're exporting to...Sydney? Maybe? Sure, lets go with that because literally nothing else makes sense (except Newcastle??? Which has a major port, apparently). And then bypassing Brisbane to ship to...Gladstone, Queensland? Okay, sure. I googled it and they seem to...export a lot of stuff, and have a major port there, so maybe they import too?

And then...what.

Where even IS that in WA (Western Australia)???

Oh! I looked it up and it's most likely Port Hedland, which is apparently another major port! The largest bulk...export...port in the world, supposedly. But maybe they import as well? (Okay, so it DOES import, but wow the difference between the import and export numbers is...a lot. Wikipedia even has 2008 statistics. Neat!)

Wow, the attention to detail sure is great in this show, but...uh...

Why???? Coal????

Why are you shipping our major export, that we export to you, our #3 export market in 2008...back to us?????

Like...it's just about the only thing we do. We export coal. I learned about our coal industry in school. Our richest person is a billonaire mining magnate. One of our former Prime Ministers became a joke for saying, "Coal is good for humanity." And then my university lecturer for Environmental Law got so pissed she put the quote in our final exam as an essay question.

But I digress.

I still looked it up to see if we import coal and export it, and the answer is...no. We do not.

LNG and ORE are also unlikely, as they're some of our other major exports (well, Iron Ore is). I can't find a lot of data from 2008 specifically, but the 2016-2019 data isn't good (compare imports on pages 52-53 with exports pages 54-56) and it seems recently (2021-2022) our major imports from South Korea included refined petroleum and cars. Not Ore and LNG. However, despite being the #1 exporter in the world for Iron Ore in 2021, we were the #42 importer of it too, so that one's possible imo. LNG though? Not as likely as ORE, because we export it and seem to supply it domestically, but way more likely than Coal.

Conclusion?

For a scene that barely lasts 2 seconds, the level of detail is crazy. I'm genuinely very impressed.

Also. It is hilarious that Seo Do Young was planning to sell us coal. The end.

On the origin of vampires: Petar Blagojević [Serbian folktales]

Vampires, and their many variations, are some of the most popular monsters in modern fiction. Though their powers and abilities vary between authors and traditions, they are almost always characterized by a powerful urge to drink the blood of the living.

Tracking down the origin of the vampire myth is pretty difficult, as many many variations of blood-sucking undead creatures have appeared throughout folktales, popular literature and mythologies from around the globe, and recounting their history would take way too much time for this article. But it’s safe to say that some particular vampires played a bigger role than others in shaping the modern idea of what exactly constitutes a ‘vampire’. No discussion about the origin of vampires would be complete without mentioning Bram Stoker’s ever popular novel Dracula, for instance: it pretty much defined the current popular image of a vampire. But vampires go back further than that:

In 1725, a Serbian village (most likely the current Kisiljevo) was supposedly haunted by a living corpse who drank the blood of innocent villagers. This was not the first appearance of a blood-drinking undead creature in folklore or fiction, but it was a pretty influential one, being one of the first cases of a ‘vampire’ to reach headlines and become famous.

Provisor Frombald, an official responsible for the Habsburg military frontier, wrote a report about the incident: 9 people had died from unclear causes in the span of only 2 days, meaning an investigation was in order. What’s more, the deceased had claimed before their deaths that they were all recently visited by a local man named Petar Blagojević, who had entered their homes at night and strangled them. Petar had passed away 3 months before the incident, so clearly this was impossible.

His widow claimed that Petar had recently visited her, still alive, to collect his shoes. The villagers, not needing further convincing, called for the grave to be dug up so that the corpse could be examined. What they found was a non-decomposed body, with hair and nails that had seemingly continued to grow after his death. Fresh blood (or so it was claimed) flowed from Petar’s mouth.

In a kind of ‘posthumous execution’, the body was impaled through the heart and then cremated.

The story was revisited in 1728 by Michael Ranft, who proposed that Petar had died from some infectious illness that was then contracted by several people who, for one reason or another, came into contact with the corpse. Or perhaps the disease was already present in the village and Petar was merely the first to succumb to it, and was then used as a scapegoat to put the blame on.

It’s everything but, despite the fact that he’s been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and May’s finally safe. Now Peter’s name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesn’t know how to be. He doesn’t know what normal is, when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon.

I have...SO much to say about this project! This fic was one that I've wanted to do ever since I started fanbinding, and it was one I saved until my technical skills caught up with my vision for the book. @iron--spider is my favorite author and a wonderful friend, and I wanted to be able to do this masterwork justice!

Given that it's a Hunger Games AU, I wanted to touch on the Hunger Games aesthetic while still being unique. I started with the cover; I knew I wanted red and yellow, something bold and evocative of the Iron Man, Spiderman vibe. It also doubles as an implication of the blood spilt during the games, especially in volume II - when Peter actually enters the games. I chose the spider for the cover, and painted it on the cover paper with inky black paint; I cut a stencil, and while the images did have some drippy areas, I don't mind it so much. It's meant to look like graffiti, Peter's symbol that the people of the Districts scrawl everywhere they can get away with it.

In turn, I also experimented with a paint pen on this one of the titling, done on the spine piece, which is black Better Than Goat leather! Again, I went in with a stencil, and opted for blockier letters, like something you might see spray painted onto a wall.

The endpapers are custom; I messed around with a weird cityscape I found and came out with the image you see above. The setting for the games is a futuristic city, much like MCU NYC would be, complete with an Avengers Stane tower.

And then of course, there's the typeset itself! The Hunger Games books don't have particularly striking typesets, but I did go for the dystopian vibe with the Rustic Printed font on the chapter numbers, and Moonglade for the chapter titles, giving it a very industrial feel.

It was also a pleasure to include the art that @angel-gidget did for the fic as well! Her book covers are so gorgeous and I love her manip style so much <3 I also included the short drabble @iron--spider did on her Tumblr, a post-story snack-sized fic, as well as a meta question she answered via her asks that I thought was particularly interesting. The District guide at the back, including what Districts each character belongs to and whether or not they are deceased was interesting to put together, and I hope I didn't make any mistakes!

Last, but certainly not least, this book was the first one I was able to do really nice headbands on. Shoutout to @morningstarbindery who helped me learn how! They look phenomenal and I never would have figured it out on my own <3

How to Turn Sun Wukong into a Woman

No, this post has nothing to do with the 72 changes. It is a byproduct of my recent "How to Kill Sun Wukong" article. It details a ritual (from another famous vernacular novel) that secretly steals an immortal's spirit, tethers it to a straw effigy, and then kills the target by shooting it with arrows. In that article, I introduced a story idea where Zhu Bajie and/or Sha Wujing could race to stop the ritual. But what if they failed and the Monkey King was killed?

The rite only terminates the immortal's physical body. It doesn't destroy the spirit. And since Wukong hasn't yet achieved Buddha-Nature, meaning he is still subject to the wheel of rebirth, his spirit would report to the underworld for processing. He could definitely be transferred to a new reincarnation; however, considering the journey would still be ongoing and the Tang Monk is always in trouble, heaven might rush to find our hero a new body. This actually happens to a minor character in the 1592 JTTW.

The ledgers of hell show that the deceased wife of a Tang official was fated to live a long life (i.e. she wasn't supposed to be dead). Therefore, the underworld bureaucracy takes the timely passing of the Tang Emperor's sister as an opportunity to force the soul of the official's wife into the princess' body. The best part is that she still retains her memories from her past life (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, pp. 268-269)!

Heaven might find the only suitable body that can contain Monkey's soul is a recently deceased demoness (fox, yaksha, tree, etc.). [1] I imagine this would result in Sun Wukong being weaker, not because she's now a woman, but because few beings can match Monkey's original physical and magical might. This would naturally lead to her coming to terms with a loss of power. She could still be a very strong fighter, just not as strong as her past life. This might cause her to use more cunning when dealing with especially powerful evils encountered along the journey.

However, she is said to having a positive fate in the novel: "In the end she, too, attained the right fruit [i.e. Buddhist merit] and a lasting reputation in the sutras” (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 3, p. 163). "Fun to hang out with friends" is also part of the friendship. Who are you hanging out with, your teacher? You don't do any fun stuff with your friends!? That's why compatibility is so important.

I was referring to their 10+ years friendship where they've never hung out with just the two of them without the cameras is odd. It doesn't have to be partying, it can be at their own homes or restaurants, where they can talk about what they're up to.

Again, I understand distrust for idol friendships. However, TaeDo is not the case of strictly co-workers or of cuddly trainees who grew up and stopped being as close as before.

TaeDo friendship was not created for entertainment, but it is demonstrated for entertainment from time to time. When Taeyong takes a picture of homemade food Doyoung cooked for him and suddenly brandishes his phone to show the picture to another neo to boast about his privileged position during their live it is not pre-planned fanservice. I guess Doyoung travelling 3 hours by speed train to Busan to support Tae during his filming, and later Tae travelling 6-7 hours by car the same distance to visit Do's filming location this time around was also done for fanservice.

Yes, friendships fall apart, I did mention it. To make a conclusion "they fell apart" you, as an observer, need to take a larger time period than 1 month.

What we know of this year: TaeDo discussed what it means to be a soloist. Taeyong was giving Doyoung advice. Doyoung made sure he watch Taeyong's solo concert's broadcast eventhough he was in Milan that day preparing for a fashion show. Doyoung mentioned Taeyong several times during his own concerts and on other occasions. During Tae's vlives, when Do appeared, Tae asked him to come to his home for drinks. Doyoung sat beside Taeyong during the sending off party, Tae was filming him. There are pictures of Do fondly touching Tae's buzzcut. Doyoung talked about how Taeyong calls him from the army and talks for 30 minutes straight (and it was said in passing, on in the way how he brings up Johhny deliberately). Nothing indicates they distanced from each other for real.

I told you DoTae were noticed shopping without cameras. And not all members even eat out with each other. They are idols. Being alone is truly rare, abroad they are accompanied by managers, and when they have a bit of time, they call non-nct friends to use the opportunity (because they live with neos or meet them at work).

On the screenshots you posted Doyoung said "It's not like we've never (went)", and that telling pout on Tae's face (he was making sure Do got the memo, and Do got it). Yes, they played their reply up for the cameras. The fact that they didn't have time to just hang around recently simply tells how busy they were.

TaeDo are each other's emotional pillars. Taeyong once compared himself with a rose and Doyoung to a glass case that protects him.

Doyoung has several close to him friends. And yes, he explained himself why Haechan is the most comfortable one to sightsee with. Taeyong is the princess in TaeDo dynamic, Doyoung needs to adjust to him (like plan shops Tae likes to visit).

It is my final answer to you. I replied to you because you were polite enough with initial questions. However, I'm not invested in your personal opinion about TaeDo. As an "oldie" fan of 127 of 6,5 years I said you are wrong. You insist on your POV. It's up to you.

Looking at how you got yourself a second acc and the emojis you use, you like to argue. I get it, I'm the same. An argument for the sake of the argument. Whatever I say won't persuade you. If you want to see what TaeDo are about, first really study them. Learn their past, watch hours of their interactions, understand how they tic. All your wrong conslusions are based on "but it's common sense" and not knowing the nuances of the relationship in question.

i have so many kittens rn its silly so i made a gallery of some (some!) of my cats' ages XD

Frito is a bottlefed kitten I just picked up today, alongside their three siblings, Cheeto, Dorito, and Lay. They're 3 weeks old

Maya is a stray kitten my mom found outside three days ago, and she's a bit older than a month old, around 5-6 weeks old

Checkers is my long-term foster kitten, whom I've had since she was 2 months old, and she's now 8 months old about. I also fostered her sister, California, for a month. Checkers had a bad reaction to fluids (or the needle was contaminated) that caused her skin to split open, and she's got a few months left of healing to go!

Mac n Cheese is my wobbly syndrome cat, whom I've had since she was 6 weeks old and I swore was still under a year but she's actually a month over at 1 year, 1 month! :O time flies!!! my baby's so fat now!

Gizmo, not pictured, is another cat I have, who's about 2 years and a half now. Very smart and knows sit, high five, and spin! :) My mom also found him as a stray, same age as Maya, and he gave all my cats (and me) ringworm lmao

Princington and Battle Axel were two cats I also had who are now deceased and they were the same age, only about a week apart, and would both be 3 and a half years by now (Prince died at 1 year, Axel at ~2)

Tweetie aka Sweetie aka Angel is a cat I've had since childhood, so I can't remember her exact age. She was born on my grandma's farm, and we took her and Tommy aka Mustard (now deceased) when they were weaned off their mom, so about the 5-6 week mark

Sheldon is another cat I have, big fatto, and my mom fostered him since he was a bottle baby and kept him because he had anger issues and she feared no one would take him and he'd get euth'ed. He's about 9-11 years, I'm not sure of when he came into the picture even though I remember him as a kitten

Shadow is our old boy, somewhere in the 14-16 year old range. His ears are all fucked cause he got something like a hematoma in them and blood burst. He's a good boy but hell at the vet, so since the ears aren't lethal/painful, we didn't do much past give him meds for infection and clean his ears. He has a sister named Macaroni who is very chill and does not look as old as Shadow does lol

Also had a cat named Princess and another named Misty before them, but only faded memories :)

I had hamsters (Digger, Gumball) and guinea pigs (Marvin, Sweetflower) previously as well, had a rabbit (Cookie Dough aka NumNum) briefly, and currently have one some-months old hamster named Buster who loves biting people, and two gerbils, Gemini aged 1 year and Mama Virgo a few months older. Gemini had a sister named Libra that previously mentioned California ate. My mom also has ducks, chickens, and guineas

and not to mention our dogs! Shaggy is like a 4 months old sheep-a-doodle, then Adrian the mini pom is like 10 years old, Rocky the Shih Tzu is 12-14 years old, and Sonny the mutt is pushing 19 years old! We previously had a pom named Destiny who died at like 15 and PP aka Penelope the German Shephard mix who died young at 10 years old because of arthritis/other conditions

A little about grief

As the holy day of Samhain (pronounced sow-in) approaches, it tends to be a time when many address grief in their lives. Acknowledging the dead, gone from our lives can bring happy memories and strong feelings of loss. Most people are familiar with Kubler-Ross's five stages of grief, the denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. What many do not learn, is that she developed the stages of grief working with the dying, not so much their families. The stages are not steps one goes through one at a time but are more a map of the emotions one goes through sometimes more than one at once[1].

Kubler-Ross was not the only one to write about the grief process. J. William Worden actually describes the steps of grief. He describes them as 1) accepting the reality of the loss, 2) process the pain of grief 3) to adjust to a world without the deceased, 4) find new connections to the deceased while moving on to a new life without them[2].  Unlike Kubler-Ross, these are steps one should take through the grief process. The steps don’t happen quickly. They take time and grief can be complicated by difficult relationships or types of death.

As you plan to celebrate your ancestors or loved ones that have passed, keep in mind that grief is a process, not an end goal.

What were they EXPECTING???

Meet the Sky High Family! Lets start with Dada! and Our main character: Stormcloud: He/them Stormcloud or Stormie for short is a Water dark type Mewtwo. Storm is the revived and reincatned version of a long deceased Mewtwo that had died during a surgical Experiment, one of the first tried to implant a Mega stone into a Mewtwo. The physical body that storm has came with a cost. The deep stormcloud like pattern that cover his body is a ever growing disease that effects his power level and physical health so much so that now he only has 5 PP for each of his attacks and can not attack all at once. Personality wise, Storm is quite bubbly, not as much as Raine but they are happy, they have fun, and they are more expressive but they still have that grumpy gen 1 Mewtwo energy sometimes. Raine: She/They Raine is a Mew that Arceus sent to guide Stormcloud in his day to day life. Storm considers Raine to be his parent since they have been there since day 1, To take care of him, to love him, and to be there for him when things get bad. Though, the good doesn't last and Stormcloud will soon find out who Raine really is and that is going to change their life forever. Raine is the impediment of Energy just pure zoomies. they are the fun parent, but they know when their optimism isn’t wanted and will get serious if they need to. Zypher: He/she/they The child of Stormcloud, and unfortunately fallen victim to the same Disease that he has. She is unable to levitate due to it. Unlike Storm he is Water Electric type due to his way of coming into being. Zypher has a more stoic personality. Not alot phases him, except for a special phsyduck rattle that Raine made for him it never fails to calm his crying and make him laugh. -Arceus decided that a child would fix Stormie’s daddy issues so one day while flying through a storm. Stormie was Struck down by lightning, a special blue lightning bolt that Arceus had sent to bring Zypher into the world. When Stormie came to, he was in a pokemon center. Panic set in because all he knew of this place was bad, medical procedures to be done and being poked and prodded. The only thing that ended up soothing Stormie is the Appearance of Raine who managed to calm him. Once healed He was allowed to go back to the nesting area he and Raine shared.  -Days began to go by and Storm began to grain more and more weight, and became more and more sick. Storm was confused, was his disease getting worse? what he going to die? Well the answer came when he woke up in the middle of the night to an intense pain. That night, Storm, despite all odds, laid an egg. a very lopsided one. -Due to his male coded body, and not being made to raise an egg unlike his female coded counterparts the egg wasn’t right and He didn’t believe it would survive But! against all odds, Zypher hatched 3 weeks later, but not in the normal way a Pokémon would hatch. Since Mewtwo don’t have a Pre-Evolution Zypher was small, and needed time to grow and that brings us to present day. The three live together in a secluded plateau that is very hard to reach even for Pokémon who can fly. The only ones who usually can get through there are Pokémon that are able too phase through. and most of those Pokémon are too scared to

Deucalion’s Flood

ON HIS return to Olympus, Zeus in disgust let loose a great flood on the earth, meaning to wipe out the whole race of men; but Deucalion, king of Phthia, warned by his father Prometheus the Titan, whom he had visited in the Caucasus, built an ark, victualled it, and went aboard with his wife Pyrrha, a daughter of Epimetheus. Then the South Wind blew, the rain fell, and the rivers roared down to the sea which, rising with astonishing speed, washed away every city of the coast and plain; until the entire world was flooded, but for a few mountain peaks, and all mortal creatures seemed to have been lost, except for Deucalion and Pyrrha. Zeus’ fury had been aroused by Lycaon, King of Arcadia and his sons, who insisted on sacrificing young boys to the King of Heaven and eating them in a soup also consisting of animal innards, despite Zeus himself finding the practice abhorrent. Deucalion’s ark eventually alighted on the peak of Mount Parnassus and as the floodwaters subsided, he and his wife emerged and begged Zeus that mankind be renewed. Zeus sent Hermes to assure the couple that whatever they wished would be granted. Themis the Titaness then appeared and told Deucalion and Pyrrha to ‘throw your mother’s bones behind you’ which the mortals wisely interpreted as a reference to Mother Earth, as their own mothers were deceased. Deucalion and Pyrrah therefore picked up rocks from the earth and threw them over their shoulders: the rocks miraculously became men and women depending on whether the king or queen had thrown them.

This story is very similar to the Biblical story of Noah. Graves suggests that both legends have a Babylonian ancestry, and refer to an actual flooding of the Mesopotamian plain in the third milennium BC.

 Note on the Position of the Church on the Works of Maria Valtorta:

The latest (and currently juridically binding) position of the Church is represented by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’s decision in 1992 to explicitly give permission to Dr. Pisani at the Centro Editoriale Valtortiano (the publishing house of Maria Valtorta’s works) to continue publishing her work as it is without any needed modifications to the text. Thus, the Church has given permission to the publisher to publish Valtorta’s The Gospel as Revealed to Me (also known as The Poem of the Man-God) and has given the faithful permission to read it. This action and permission also implicitly acknowledges that the work is free from error in faith and morals and may be safely read by the faithful.

 In addition to this, multiple bishops and ecclesiastical authorities have declared that her work is free of error in faith and morals after having thoroughly examined it. Not only was her work commanded to be published by Pope Pius XII in 1948, but it was approved for publication by the Holy Office in 1961 according to the testimony of Fr. Berti who dealt directly with the Holy Office at the time; and in 1992, Cardinal Ratzinger, then head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, gave permission for her work to be published. In a letter dated May 6, 1992 (Prot. N. 324-92), addressed to Dr. Emilio Pisani (the publisher of Maria Valtorta’s works), Bishop Dionigi Tettamanzi, secretary to the Italian Episcopal Conference, gave permission for the work to continue to be published for the “true good of readers and in the spirit of the genuine service to the faith of the Church.” (Pro e contro Maria Valtorta (5th Edition), Centro Editoriale Valtortiano, 2008, pp. 263-265).
