ughhh they’re all hypocrites w their own pain and recklessness i can’t STAND them.

w pluto, pain tolerance is definitely tied to his masculinity, he wants to be strong and take the blows like his father told him, he pulls the whole drowning stunt because he doesn’t want to be that “weak link”, whereas w duke i think it’s more to do w “look at me and how i defy these odds” hence he puts himself into dangerous situations (also died by drowning), but lenore…she simply doesn’t care for her own pain, she doesn’t seek it out per se and her recklessness usually has a cause (like getting info from the raven, like using the anchor to escape the trial, like trying to get montressor to leave beatrice and eualie alone by making herself a target etc). different causes, same result where they can call out other’s recklessness but FAIL to see their own.

(duke has full rights to just bonk pluto on the head w a newspaper for pulling the whole jump into water and hiding a BITE MARK from demons)
