It hits him like a cold bucket of water, that your unmoving body is not just you practicing for your upcoming movie. Ha. Reca is completely unmoving for not knowing what to do next, just lifelessly staring down at you. He realizes too late that you’re gone, so long that there’s no longer a way to go back. So he moves on.. or at least tries to. You were his muse in all his recent works you can tell they were inspired by you. But in a more grotesque way. What happens in the movie is just a big experiment on how things could have went differently. In a way where he recreates your final days and moments on the big screen. Only unlike with you the actor gets to continue onwards with their life. By the end of the shoots there’s frequently a ping of jealousy in his heart that they’re able to reunite with their lovers after this; yet he cannot as his has started to rot.

What the hell were you thinking. Blade is livid, literally seething. He’s yelling out at you, letting out sorts of profanity. It’s almost out of character. All the while cutting through every enemy in sight. Do you think he’s that weak? He could’ve easily taken that hit. He would have lived, could’ve walked it off like it was nothing. But you? You’re bleeding bad, he’s scooping up in his arms to get you guys out of here. Your blood is soaking through both his and yours clothes. No amount of pressure applied to the wound will stop the bleeding, must’ve hit an artery. It’s as if Blade’s feet can’t move fast enough, your body is getting colder and colder. When he finally gets where someone can treat you it’s already too late. A slightly paler tint to the skin, cold and unmoving. If anyone should have died it should have been him. You weren’t supposed to die at least not in his life time.

Furina never expected this, or at least for things to get so bad. While it was known that you’ve had struggles with your mental health she was still unprepared for something like this. Though I don’t think most people are prepared to see their lover unmoving in a- Furina stepped into the mess upon the floor and immediately tried to us her hydro vision to try and heal you, but it was clear nothing could be done. She still tried to get you help from others but all had the same response; as well as the standard”I’m sorry for your loss.” You seemed so happy leading up to this day; what went wrong? Furina partially blamed herself for this tragedy. Maybe if she had been honest about her archon status maybe this wouldn’t have happened. Was the shock that lead to this, or maybe it was the fact that she kept such a large secret from you? Was this incident the thing that broke the camel’s back? Whatever the reason was there is still a tiny voice in the back of her head saying it’s her fault you’re gone. Furina can now live a life as a human being, but what was the point if she couldn’t spend this new life with you?

They depend on those in their vicinity and refuse to release their grip, for if they do, they will stumble and remain fallen.

They do nothing, yet ask for everything, much like the wolves that came before them. 

You put in the effort, while they enjoy the benefits that rightfully belong to you, rather than to them. However, you permit this arrangement because they assist you in warding off other threats, coming to your aid when you summon them, and fulfilling other tasks that you are incapable of accomplishing alone.

So, who is the dog, who is the man, and who is the wolf? Is that really up to you to decide, or is that the world’s decision, or is the question at hand supposed to be answered by the one who promised you a new life away from the one you ran away from, Satoru Gojo?

“She has me!” Satoru bursts with joy, hoisting Rina high above him and twirling her around, their laughter filling the air. You dislike how paternal he acts towards her, yet appreciate it at the same time. Being a mother was never your desire, so maybe Satoru lightens that burden for you, even though his motives are self-serving. He had extended his offer to shelter both of you a few months after your daring escape, while you were cradling baby Rina in your arms, who had just been born in an old, desolate house on the fringes of Tokyo.

You had no desire for her to fall ill, and despite everything, you remained as her mother. You intended to fulfill the role of a good mother, even if it was imposed upon you unintentionally or not by Geto. She is under your care, correct? As her mother, you would go to any lengths to ensure that Geto never discovers her existence. Does she possess the ability to perceive curses? If she does, and Geto were to discover her, she would be confined to a luxurious but restrictive environment. However, if she lacks this ability and he still becomes aware... you are uncertain of the consequences she would face. All you are certain of is that it would be something detrimental, something deeply distressing.

You are both dressed in white fleece, while Satoru wears fully black as he always has. “Let her stay. I’ll hire a tutor for her.”

Can you refuse this? Satoru possesses the demeanor of a loyal canine, whereas Geto embodies the spirit of a cunning wolf. Yet both inflict harm upon you, though in distinct manners. However, they both cause you pain. Don't they both cause you pain? They will forever remain entwined with you and with each other, connected by an unbreakable crimson thread, as they both harm you and strive to control you.

So, just as many, many times before, you bite your tongue and nod. Satoru smiles, then takes Rina back inside, down the hall to the elevators, as you follow them. “Yay, Rina! No school for you!”

Is your daughter truly a burden? Will she never experience happiness? Will you never find contentment? Will that be due to Rina or because of Satoru?

oh this is a long one, who's Juan Guarnizo, the streamer who has recently tweeted against the french union in regards of the qsmp.

juan guarnizo is a colombian streamer (who now lives in mexico with his wife). he's participated in Tortillaland, a roleplaying minecraft series, as a wizard of sorts. He then decided to create a "spin-off" series (more cinematic/pre-planned) called "El Dios de Todo" (The God of Everything, his character's catchphrase). So he partnered with Euphonia, a popular Minecraft Studio that has created games such as SquidCraft, Dedsafio, SawMinecraftGames, and more.

He announced he was looking for several roleplayers for this project, and people started complaining on twitter because some of the requirements were pretty much insane.

Some include, full availability for 6 hours a day everyday for an entire month, good quality microphone, not being able to livestream the content, just record it to be used after the proyect was released, knowing how to rhyme/rap/sing/imitate voices and animals/general voice acting talent and being able to improv. All of that for the price of 0$. The payment? The enriching experience of being part of this unpayed proyect with your favorite content creator.

Well turns out people still didn't like this idea, justifiably so, and continued to call him out on twitter. His initial response was as follows:

Participants will be able to take advantage of the series on different social media platforms but not live. How much benefit they decide to get out of it is up to each person. Basically excusing himself by "I'm doing good by allowing you to join, please don't let toxicity ruin this". Which was still off, because professional voice actors would be getting payed but somehow the rest wouldn't, weird overall. What I think their fans don't understand is that this is not a mob campaign against their faves, it's about protecting the working class from the privileged who refuse to pay them correctly or sometimes never at all, granting them rights to defend themselves when cases like these arise. This goes for people who claim Juan learned from his mistake, he clearly didn't if his immediate reaction to the union was:

Stolas and Valentino are the same character

Warning: Long text. Also, hot take?

Disclaimer: I don't hate HH or HB, or any real people involved. Although I'm not shy to criticize, at the end of the day it's still a fictional world and not worth getting too mad over.

So, I'm one of the people who had never heard of the Hellaverse before HH dropped earlier this year. Never seen or known either pilots, much less the characters, and thus had 0 attachment to any of it. This year I watched HH after it released in whole before knowing what a helluva boss was.

Now, Valentino deserves the bullet, we all know that and most people would agree. So when I got around to HB, I was shocked to see the Valentino archetype....being adored and a fan favorite? Unironically, too?

Like... They're so similar in both how they look, act and feel towards those around them and their respective version of AngelDust/Blitz.

Let's compare; 1. Rich, high on the social hierarchy, with an authority that's difficult or impossible to challenge: Check.

Valentino is a rich, famous overlord pimp who uses souls and substances to control and exploit people beneath him.

Stolas, demon royalty, filthy rich and so powerful he ranks only below Charlie and the sins. Has entire legions and a palace-full of (imp) servants at his beck and call.

2. Tall, skinny, purple greyish, red-eyed twink with effeminate gestures, pleasant voice and distinct manner of speech.

Like come on, check.

3. Obsessed with a low rank, underprivileged object of desire.

Angel Dust and Blitzo. Check.

4. Gone out of their way to acquire control over their object of desire.

Valentino, through means unknown so far, bought AngelDust's soul, keeping him bound to him. This leaves AngelDust unable to leave or refuse him.

Stolas had his book stolen by Blitz. However, instead of reporting him or simply getting it back, he decided to wait long enough for the latter to build his business depending on the Grimoire, and only after it became essential to his job, Stolas set inappropriate demands, knowing Blitz would do anything for the book he now relies on.

5. Their objects of desire are expected to perform sexual acts whether they want/like them or not, and are bound to suffer negative consequences for not complying.

AngelDust has to do porn and prostitution work to make Valentino money and afford his addiction. He gets physically and verbally abused, belittled/insulted, and overall punished for not doing so.

Blitz is expected to sexually please Stolas each full moon however the prince desires, to keep his (very difficult to create and keep for his low rank in society) business afloat, pay his employees, and financially support his adoptive daughter. Failing to keep Stolas happy means putting himself and especially his loved ones at risk or significant disadvantage.

6. On top of their transactional relationships with their OoD, romantic/romance-coded feelings or behaviours are one-sidedly involved.

AngelDust is Valentino's number one star/moneymaker, perhaps favourite employee, yet Valentino throws jealous tantrums when he's ignored or not suckered up to, and feels entitled to Angel's time, attention, availability, and texts him like a clingy psycho boyfriend.

Stolas, on top of their arrangement, began expecting Blitz to fullfill a romantic role in his life and deliberately tries to have him perform this fantasy; by trying to get him to be his knight in shining armor, dropping everything and coming to his rescue when he's in danger that Stolas could have easily avoided/gotten out of if he didn't want to be a damsel in distress in the romcom in his head. Is shown to be upset/disappointed when Blitz doesn't want to do anything with him outside of their deal; not staying over after sex, not visiting him in the hospital, not wanting to be near him anymore than he has to. Acts wronged, is petty, and essentially ghaslights/guilttrips Blitz whenever the latter doesn't act like a devoted boyfriend, when in reality Stolas has made him more of an indebted prostitute.

7. They treat those they see beneath them poorly.

Valentino is sadistic and exploits, physically, emotionally/verbally and psychologically abuses his contracts and coworkers. Is creepy and predatory to those who aren't bound to him yet.

Stolas, although much less sadistic than Valentino, exploits and physically abuses his palace servants. Is entirely indifferent to seeing his staff being mistreated by his wife. Outside his castle, he's classist and racist, belittles imps, acts entitled to their services showing no gratitude, or straight up ignoring their existance. He only sexually abuses one imp, though /sar

8. They treat those on the same level as them poorly or are neglectful towards them.

Valentino is shitty to Vox and Velvette, breaking their stuff, yelling, insulting and being petulant around them. Even to Charlie, who is above him, he assaults and insults her all the same.

Stolas publicly cheated on his wife, flaunts it with no shame, has no concern or care for how this affects his daughter, who he claims is his reason for living. Doesn't assume any responsibility for his actions, expects everyone to accommodate to him. Carelessly leans out his daughter's inheritance and seemingly her studies, which are his responsibility, are subpar. Also forgets about her constantly, stayed hours in the human world watching a live sitcom rather than go look for his missing daughter in a place she's never been in and, as far as he thought, was in danger. Is happy ditching/neglecting his family and princely duties to pursue his OoD with no care for the consequences and harm on others.

9. They often display sexually charged speech and actions that are inappropriate to the situation and/or the people they're with.

Valentino is a creep and sexual predator off the go to pretty much anyone, specially vulnerable/gullible people or straight up people who don't want/like it.

Stolas speaks openly of his sexual desires in front of his family, reads imp erotica at the dinner table in front of his wife and teenage daughter. Speaks of Blitz sexually in public despite his protests.

I'm tired of typing at this point lol, sorry for any mispellings, but come on, I really don't get why these two are so differently received by the fans?

It's not even about which one is worse, because they way I see it they portray different versions of an abuser; Valentino is the more overt "textbook" type, the one everyone in their right mind recognizes as abusive, and Stolas is the more covert one that everyone sees as the victim instead and paint the actual victim as the bad guy for not acting like a regular textbook victim. I get that everyone was iffy about Stolas at first, as it's reasonable, but it truly baffles me how everyone grew to adore him so much? Personally, I don't even find him that funny or charming. At least Valentino has some funny moments, but Stolas is just so whiny and annoying to me, which is a shame because I really wanted to like him. I love good villains, and I would like Stolas more if they treated him accordingly, like a villain, instead of a poor uwu sad gay babyboy whose crush doesn't call him back.

HI KATY!!! Im playing bloodborne on Japanese and I have a few findings and tidbits you might find interesting!! I think u might know most of these but

1- You cant add a beard to female characters while in the NA/EU you can!

2- The classic "Should it please you" dialogue is said with a normal cadence by Gehrman, not a conspiratory whisper as in for english, knowing its now on its original language dub its expected to have the original intent put into it... WHO COULDVE THOUGHT!! WHO COULDVE THOUGHT THAT THE DIALOGUE THAT WAS NORMAL WAS... NORMAL!! (Okay sorry)

3- Menu is on english! It shocked me a little but then I was hit with the japanese upon pressing O (theyre inverted help i am fumbling)

4- Yharnamite enemies have mixed voicelines, they say "die" and all the other hollering but when they talk clearly they talk on Japanese :0

5- The doll uses the respective -sama for the hunter and Gehrman :> It was cute

to my knowledge they were/are in favour of the video being public and seen by many. you can watch this interview from wednesday morning where her father featured on cbs mornings, they show the footage on tv (clearly not without his consent) and afterwards her dad says "Thank god for the body camera footage." [2:43] the family's attorney later adds "[...] in 2020, it was the George Floyd torture video that galvanized people in our community to act; in 2024 i believe it's going to be the Sonya Massey shooting video that galvanizes people in our community to act." [5:50] (emphasis mine)

even more explicit is this press conference the family held yesterday with their attorney, where it starts off with "[...] as i watched the video, i thought: this is not murder. this is an assassination. judge for yourself." [0:30] (emphasis mine). their attorney similarly says "[...] we continue to try to fight, not only in the court of law, but in the court of public opinion." [4:28]

Wolf Faunus Weiss AU (part 8)

Yang walked out of the bar as it caught fire behind her. This was the third so far and still no trace of Weiss. She wasn't too worried about her safety, as she trusted she could take care of herself. But disappearing like this wasn't normal either.

She took out her scroll to check on the next closest bar to ask around, when a message pinged in. It was from Blake, telling her they had found Weiss and that she was okay, but also that they needed her back at Beacon.

Without a second to spare, she hopped on her motorbike and drove back to the academy, happy they'd found Weiss but intrigued.

Once back at the dorm, the scene only brought up further questions.

Weiss was sitting on her bed, while Blake and Ruby were sitting on the oposite one. They looked fine, if a bit exhausted, but the tension was clear. Plus, for some reason, Weiss was wearing the same black bow as Blake's.

"Hi girls, everything okay?" Yang asked cheerfully.

"Yes, Yang," Weiss replied, breathing in and sighing. "Please, do sit down. I have a... confession to make."

A confession? that was definitely not in Yang's mind when she pondered what could have been they needed her for. She sat between Blake and Ruby, caressing her sister's shoulder but enjoying the closeness to her other friend too.

"Welp, Weiss, lay it onto us."

In response, Weiss took a deep breath.

After the fight with the grimms, she's been thinking about this moment. Acting and reenacting in her head what to say, how to react, even trying to get ahead and predict how Ruby and Yang would respond each individually, and what to say to them. Trying her best to stay at least two moves ahead.

But she still didn't know how to even start.

"The matter is that," she began, deciding to push herself into it. "When I woke up this morning..." No, that wasn't working either. She tried to hold her gaze up to her friends, but her fist clenched by themselves.

"Ah, to hell with it." Weiss reached up and undid the black bow Blake tied for her, revealing her new wolf faunus ears.

Blake was the first to show any reaction, sighing at her friend's rush, but smiling she could finally get it out of her chest. Next to her, Yang and Ruby looked as if a thunder had struck them for a second before either of the sister said anything.

"So," Yang started. "You were a faunus this whole time?" She tried to sound as casual as possible, but her confusion was clear.

"Not that I knew of," Weiss replied, clamer now the secret was out. "I literally woke up this morning with... these," she pointed at the top of her head, shrugging. "Then I ran off because I had no idea of how to deal with it until Blake found me." She tried to smile, but she was getting worried that Ruby wasn't--

"Oh my gosh, you look adorable!" And there she was.

"Uh, thank you?" Weiss replied, not sure if this was the reaction she expected. She couldn't help but blush, as her ears were pointed forward, at Ruby's dumb-yet-adorably smiling at her.

"So, Weiss," Yang came to her rescue. "Do you plan on coming out to the rest of the academy?"

"I honestly don't know," Weiss ears perked up at Yang, as if trying to focus on anything but Ruby. "I mean, I guess I should."

"No, you shouldn't." Blake interjected. "It's your body, your life, so your decision only."

"And no matter what," Ruby chirped in, also blushing a bit. "We're behind you one hundred percent."

"Yeah," Yang finished, leaning over and hitting her palm.

"Ah, thank you, guys." Weiss felt as if her entire body was released from an enormous weight. She was so ready for resistance and scrutiny. But instead, her friends showed nothing but support.

She got up and hugged them all together.

"You are helping me get a white bow, right?" Weiss asked. "Black is really not working out for me," she side-eyed Blake. "No offense."

"None taken," Blake nodded.

AN: Yeah, this is probably the last part. Overall, the whole "Weiss discovers she's a faunus" was the original idea. I have some concepts in the back of my head, like how and why, as well as future developments like Team JNPR and the rest of Beacon finding out (Ozpin already knows, of course).

But those are probably come out less frequently or linearly.

Imm-a back!! With more Demon Portal AU!!

I told you I'd be back very soon!!

Just a little side note before start: There is a +18 version of this AU where Wheatley is an Incubus, if anyone here is interested in that, then I might publish it too... maybe... I need motivation guys, never done NSFW before ._.

Now, let's skip more introductions and let's start already!

First, a little reminder that this Wheatley, despite he is still Wheatley, is also a demon, which means he can be a little more reactive and aggresive.

Second, let's talk about the drawing on the left, okay? This is a picture that still needs some work cause demons are not supposed to be visible for normal humans, not quiet sure if interact with them. BUT this has a context that I can work with:

He caught a stealer trying to get in the house; he's been a while without eating, so he's starting to lose control over his worst instincts and since Chell is, at the moment, being too much of a challenge, he is hungry, frustrated and not holding back.

Demons like him can only feed on very specific stuff: Small living creatures, blood (specially human blood), vital energy and fear. Chell's going to need to think and act fast and the solution comes from an unexpected fount

You see, I really like vampires and some other super natural creatures so... yeah, I'll be mixing a few things with the demons from this AU (because is my AU and I say so) which would include the next thing

I think that would be the moment where she would not only actually talk to him, even saying long sentences, but would also call him by his name, even tho, he never told it to her.

I haven't decide this clearly yet, but I imagine a situation kinda like him saying something like he is sick of waiting and since she didn't allowed him do anything with her (I'm not sure if that would be it or he actually started to like her before this so he stoped himself a bit) he just captured another prey

"Oh come on, this is a thief, ain't them?!! why are you defending them?!!... psst, you know what? forget it. Come to think about it, this could be an even better treat than simple meal. Chell is mad staring at him

"I was right about you.... you haven't change a bit from the last time, have you?" he is about to take a bite "Wheatley"

Suddenly he stop himself after hearing that

"How did you.... how did you know my name!!? I'm sure! I could bet I've never told-!! you know what!!? It doesn't matter!! to be honest it doesn't matter at all!! I have a meal to take 😈 "

"No, please!!! help!!!"

"Stop it!!" she throws a salt jar to him, but, suddenly, in the middle of that, he actually and involuntarily, he does stop, to Chell's and his own confusion. There was not much time to think about it, Chell has a good aim and the salt hit him in all the face, making him to release the thief

Or something like that. Basically, in case I didn't made it clear 😅 someone can gain some level of control over a demon here IF they know and say their actual name. Neither Wheatley nor Chell know this, he is just surprise she knows his name.

The upper one happens once a good time has happens since the start, they have a bigger bond now, he got a new level (and a horn) by that point, he is trying to protect her from something or someone

The right one is just him staring at the night sky, I'm doing a little parallel with a movie I like a lot (Lilo and Stitch). Wheatley feels weird during a particularly calm night, a feeling close to "nostalgia", but, since he doesn't have any memory from his human life and his life as a demon is mostly short, he feels... weird, empty, but he doesn't know what to do about it, at the moment he doesn't trust anyone enough to talk about it.

"Those of you that are standing, please collect your belongings and report to the front hallway immediately." Everyone who was called does as they're told, and they are released immediately. Now, all that's left are the true believers. When Rossi sees them leave, he calls Ben to thank him. "We will surrender tomorrow at noon. I want the press there to ensure that we're treated fairly. We'll discuss the details in our 7:00 AM call. I'll see you then, Dave."

"I look forward to it."

"Oh, one more thing. Could you send some food in?"

"Sure. What would you like?"

"Fried chicken and all the fixin's."

"You got it."

"I don't understand. Why did you let them go?" Chris asks once Ben hangs up.

"They weren't prepared to do what needs to be done," Spencer answers, but that angers Chris.

"You're not one of us. You don't know what it takes to be prepared!"

"Listen to him," Ben says calmly. "Tell him."

"They failed the test. They had a chance to prove their faith when Cyrus told them that they'd sacrifice themselves for God. Instead, they showed they weren't worthy. That's why he wants the media to bear witness to your true final act of sacrifice."

"How do you know that?"

"I'm always looking for signs of things to come."

Spencer knows Rossi can hear him talk, and he knows exactly what Spencer means.

"Reid's talking to us," Rossi states. "He wants a sign when we're coming in. He's telling us this is it. Time has run out. We've got to go in."

A large amount of food is brought in so that Rossi can bring it to Ben. His first thought is to drug it, but that won't work. He needs to get the message to you and Spencer about what time they are going in.

"Drugging the food is not an option because of the children. We have to go in," Hotch says.

"The best time to hit them is when they're least mentally prepared. Their biorhythm cycle is at its lowest at 3:00 am."

"We need a diversion. Something that plays into his expectations," Derek says.

"Whatever we're doing, the plan depends on Reid and Y/N separating the diehards from the followers, and delaying Cyrus's diehards from reacting to our assault," Rossi says.

"That's not my main concern. Reid and Y/N know what they need to do. My main concern is letting them know when we're coming. The whole thing hinges on them being ready for us at 3:00 am."

Instead of drugging the food, everyone plants tiny bugs inside the food that's small enough not to be noticed when or if eaten. The food takes some time to prepare, and it's after the sun goes down that they start to bring it in. You're lying in bed with your hands tied to the bedposts.

There are bugs everywhere, so you know if you start talking, they might be able to hear you. You lift your leg and reach out towards the blinds on the window. You fit your foot in between the blind and wiggle it just in case they are watching.

"If you guys can hear me, I know you're coming. I can try to get the women and children down to the tunnel, but I need to know when you're coming."

You repeat this phrase three times before you get something from them. Something shines on the wall, a red dot. Whoever is doing this has a laser pointed to the wall.

"Okay, I see you. What time are you coming?"

The red dot flashes three times on the wall, and since it's nighttime, you can only assume that they're coming at 3:00 am and not 3:00 pm.

"3:00 am?" you ask, and the red dot moves up and down as if the person is nodding. "Understood. Spencer is on the first floor somewhere with Ben. Please remember there are children here." You can hear someone walking down the hall, and you quickly move your leg back down. "Someone's coming."

Kathy comes into the room with a glass of water, and you lift her head as she helps you drink it. You're grateful for her kindness, but you need to get out of here.

"Kathy, Ben is planning a mass suicide. I know you made the 911 call."

"This is all my fault," she sighs. "None of this would have happened if I hadn't made that call."

"You were trying to protect your daughter."

"There were other girls before Jessie. He would marry them in secret, and after a while, he'd take another. We weren't permitted to speak of it, so when she asked for my consent, I wanted to just take her and run. I was afraid she wouldn't leave him."

"You wanted us to take her?"

"I wanted to save her from Cyrus."

You have to trust her because she is the only one here who can help you and your team out.

"I can give you another chance. The FBI is coming here at 3:00 am. I need you to gather Jessica, the kids, and the other women. Get them into the basement just before 3:00 am."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Because I have faith that you are a strong enough woman to do the right thing for Jessica."

She quickly leaves, but you can feel her doubts for you. You groan in frustration and bang your head on the pillow. Did you make a mistake by telling her? You hope not. Minutes later, she comes back with a worried look on her face. She starts to untie you as quickly as she can.

"You were right. They're setting the place to blow up. I told Jessie that Cyrus wants her to gather the women and children."

"Where is the man I came in with?"

"He's in the chapel with Cyrus. It's 2:45 though. We gotta hurry."

There is no time to get Spencer right now, and Hotch would kill you if you chose him over saving everyone else. You two leave the bedroom and escape down to the basement where Jessica and the others are. She doesn't question it since she thinks Ben wants her to do this.

"Come on, right through here," you whisper and guide them into the back of the basement where the tunnels start.

That's where your team is going to come from. Fifteen minutes later, Derek, Rossi, Emily, and the tactical team come rushing in with guns raised. Derek sees you and immediately rushes over to you.

"Y/N, are you okay?"

"They've wired explosives. They're going to blow the place up."

"Come on, everyone. Let's go this way," Kathy says.

"Where's Reid?"

"He's in the chapel with Ben."

"We gotta get you out of here," Rossi says and grabs your arm.

"No," you panic. "I need to get Spencer. He's still in there. Please, it's not safe up there!"

You try to get out of Rossi's grip, but Derek stands in front of you to block your way.

"Y/N, I will get your boyfriend, okay? Get out of here. Get to safety."

"Cyrus didn't call for this," Jessica cries to her mother. "You lied to me!"

"No, Cyrus lied to you, honey."

"He's my husband!"

Jessica dodges everyone's attempts at keeping her here, and she rushes back into the church. Kathy screams out for her and tries to go after her, but Derek stops her as well.

"No! I will get her for you. Rossi, get them out of here. Torre, get your boys. Let's do this now."

Rossi and Kathy get all the women and children as Derek, Emily, Dan and his team rush up the stairs into the chapel. You have no choice but to leave Spencer and pray that he finds Spencer in time. Everyone files out of the chapel where Hotch, JJ, and the other team are waiting to collect them.

You turn back towards the chapel, but Rossi doesn't let go of your arm. He can't have you running back in there to save Spencer. Five minutes have passed, but it's the longest five minutes in the world. You have no clue what is happening inside the church, and unfortunately, you're about to.

You're this close to going inside of it yourself when the entire building explodes. You scream out for Spencer and jump into action, but Rossi wraps an arm around your waist to prevent you from running into the fire.

"No! Spencer!" you scream and cry. "Let me go! I have to find him!"

Just when you think you've lost the love of your life, you see two people emerge from the smoke. You shove Rossi off you and run over to Derek and Spencer who are coughing from the smoke. You run right into their arms with tears streaming down your face.

"We're okay," Derek coughs.

You let go of him, but pull Spencer closer to you. You have your arms wrapped around his neck and your face is buried into the side of it.

"I think all the kids are out," Hotch says.

"Where's Jessie?" Rossi asks, but all Derek can do is shake his head.

Jessica is dead as well as Cyrus, but all you can think about is Spencer and the fact that he is okay.

Spencer is safe. Spencer is okay. He's safe. You're okay.

The plane ride home is tense. Everyone wants to rest, but you and Spencer are sitting away from everyone else. He is dabbing some medicine onto your face, making sure to take care of you.

"Never do that again," he whispers.

"I need you to listen to me." You move his hands so you can look into his eyes. "It was my decision, Spencer. What Cyrus did to me was not your fault. I'd do it again if it means you're safe because that's what I do for the people I love. It was my choice, and I stand by that choice."

"I love you."

You lean up and kiss him slowly but passionately. Resting doesn't seem like a bad idea, and you pull away from his lips only to rest your head on his shoulder. He kisses the top of your head before resting his head on top of yours.

Games of the Year 2024 because why not

So, this is unusual for this place, but uh.

I spent a lot of time on video games this year, and I feel like I have to write something to make up for it because otherwise. Eesh. Plus I want to write a thing more often this year, and this will be the first/second, depending on when I finish it up. Below the cut, I'll start with some games I'd still like to play or play more of; honorable mentions because I played a lot of things I loved and they don't fit in the top, and a top 5, because who has time for 10 games (please ignore the above numbers).

THINGS YET TO BE FINISHED

Here's a list of games I haven't touched, haven't completed, or haven't done enough of a Think to figure out where it stands. I'd love to get to any of these, and probably will. Unless I forget.

Nine Sols, Lorelai and the Laser Eyes, Arco, Cryptmaster, Metaphor ReFantazio, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Unicorn Overlord, Indika, Slitterhead, Fate/Stay Remaster, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Metal Slug Tactics, Caves of Qud, Arctic Eggs, Sorry We're Closed, probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.

HONORABLE MENTIONS in no particular order

Trails in the Sky FC and SC: This was the year I started my Trails journey. Luckily, it kicks off pretty nicely. Trails in the Sky FC is a fun, fairly generic JRPG with an entirely too lovable cast. Estelle is real and my friend. And then the last hour happens, and my interest is piqued immediately. And then SC is great, telling a compelling story with the cast of goobers you now care for and expanding the world expertly. And then the last hour happens again, and I'm super excited to keep delving into the world of Liberl. What an excellent throwback that fully explains why it's existed for twenty years.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth: Ichiban is real and my friend. I've been playing the Yakuza games since Yakuza 0 was first released, and then I needed a depression/mindless work game series to plow through while working my way through law school, and let me tell you. There's nothing more perfect than a series where there's always something new and the city barely changes between instances. The Ichiban games are similarly excellent, and wonderful JRPGs in their own right, but this one took the cake by also acting as a conclusion (for now) to Kiryu's story that completely nailed everything it needed to. I think it got a little out there in the final hours, but I was still along for the ride to the end. What a game. Dondoko Island is basically another game inside of it.

Balatro: Jimbo is real and my friend. It's Balatro. It's probably the single best designed game loop of anything released this year. It doesn't do a lot for me, personally, in that I like it and appreciate the artistry behind it, but I haven't lost my life to it at any point this year. Good game, highly suggested, not fully my cup of tea. That soundtrack is excellent though.

Conscript: So I played three Resident Evil (PSX) style survival horror games this year. I felt that one of them was pretty bad, and so won't talk about it here. But Conscript? Conscript hit just right. Set in the trenches of Verdun during WWI, it's an excellent survival horror game that eschews the stereotypical supernatural elements attached to the genre in a way that makes it work. It's got just enough of a narrative pull to get you through the game as well. Absolutely worth looking at if you're a fan of classic survival horror.

Rise of the Golden Idol: The Case of the Golden Idol was one of the best written mystery games I've ever played; one I'd put right up there with Return of the Obra Dinn. The DLC was still good, but less than the main game; not only was it weirdly difficult, but something just felt... off? about it. Luckily, Rise was just as good as the original game, and an excellent second entry. If you haven't played the Golden Idol series but love mysteries, then by all means, you should play it. It's really good. I don't think I like Rise quite as much as Case, but that's mostly quibbling about hairsbreadth differences at this point.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail: I dunno, it's FFXIV. It's kind of a lodestone in my life at this point. And while Dawntrail was certainly not the best expac of the game, that's less to do with the quality of Dawntrail itself (which is mostly fine, with some shockingly clunky pacing issues, some off-sounding writing, and some poor VA direction for some of the scenes) and more to do with the one-two punch that is Shadowbringers and Endwalker. There's still a bunch to love about this game, and Tuliyolal and the surrounding environs are just so cool to me for a lot of reasons. Plus my static is cool and I love hanging out with them twice a week.

Threshold: I just played this last week? And I'm still thinking about it? What a weird, weird little thing.

A highly prestigious award that Signalis has won every year since release. Excellent work Signalis. Keep up the good work.

TOP FIVE GAMES OF 2024 (AS OF ROUGHLY RIGHT NOW

5. Crow Country

The other Resident Evil (PSX) style survival horror I played this year! It's excellent, a tightly designed and paced adventure set in a creepy environment with a unique art style. The game controls really interestingly as well; adding a fun modern layer onto such an obvious retro love letter. It might have ranked higher on my list; but some of the puzzles (notably the mushroom puzzle) were actively bad and I haven't forgiven it.

4. Tactical Breach Wizards

I've been a fan of the Defenestration Trilogy since I first played the original Gunpoint back in 2013. Then, it was a neat, well written comedy stealth action game. I even liked the follow-up Heat Signature, though that had less writing and more of a focus on the gameplay loop, which was OK, but not mindblowing. So when the developer Tom Francis announced he was working on the third of the unrelated trilogy, and that it was called Tactical Breach Wizards, I was instantly excited and willing to wait for as long as it took. And it took a while. But when it came out? It was excellent. It is a strong tactical combat game centered around pushing enemies around a map, ideally out of windows. On top of that, it might be one of the best written games of the year. It had the unenviable narrative task of balancing around a SWAT-esque team of characters without falling too far into copaganda or falling for tacticool problems. Luckily, it not only does that, but is genuinely one of the funniest games I've played in a while. Utterly strong comedy writing, which is something that you don't come across in games often. Also, fuck Steve, no one likes Steve.

3. UFO 50

Most games have trouble getting down one or two gameplay loops. So the guy behind Spelunky, one of the best action rogue-likes, was like, I'm going to make that problem fifty times harder by releasing fifty different games as one. And then the madman did it; and he didn't just do it, he did it well. The concept behind UFO 50 is that it's a collection of 50 games that was a lost developer's entire back catalog originally released in the 1980s. So, UFO 50 is literally just 50 NES style games for you to peruse and play. It is an amazingly impressive feat of both game design and historical understanding. By hour count, it's the game that I've spent the most time in by such a large margin it's astounding. I don't even love all the games; but I love enough that there's always something more. It's such an amazing little package.

2. 1000xRESIST

A latecomer to this list, 1000xRESIST is... a lot. At a basic level, it's a narrative exploration game where you explore a world, chat to people, and "enjoy" a story being told. And what a story. It's about so much. Isolation, resistance, memory, familial trauma (and the continuation thereof), expectations, being a teenager, the things you carry forward.... Fuck, there's a lot, and it hit me in a very particular place that was difficult to continue at parts, but that's a sign of quality in a story. It ends astoundingly, and I love it very much. If there's one negative thing I can say about it, it's that it's a pretty ugly game. I try not to focus on that too much; but my god the models. It's really a shame, because there's some striking art design at play, and the use of colors is among the best I've seen this year. But those models are bad. Hekki Allmother; red to blue.

Mouthwashing

Fuckin'. Mouthwashing. Another narrative game, but where 1000xRESIST is a narrative sword, full of heft and weight, Mouthwashing is a scalpel. It is a tightly edited, highly focused that gets in to do what it wants, cuts through you with the cold horror and understanding of what it's going for, and then gets out. I played it myself after watching one (1) TikTok; I streamed it for a friend like two weeks later; I watched numerous streamers playthrough it; and then I played through it again with another friend. What an astounding piece of media, with some of the best cinematography I've seen in an embarrassingly long time. Just. Astounding.
