ā€œExcuse me, could you step aside for a minute.ā€ A voice breaks Pierre out of his internal monologue. He looks up and finds himself face to face with none other than Charles Leclerc. ā€œNo.ā€ The word is out of his mouth before he realises. The guy looks at him in confusion. ā€œI mean. Yes, butā€¦ā€ He tries to save himself from this already awkward moment.
Charles sings and records songs in his bedroom, uploading them to his socials for the world see. One day, his videos show up for up and coming music producer Pierre. When Pierre flies out to get a signature on a record deal, he goes home with a lot more than he initially thought.

The prompts are just there to give you a springboard, feel free to disregard them and do your own thing.
I'm not 100% sure where it started, but this challenge was popularised by the one and only @tagedeszorns.
This particular format with the two prompts is an extension of a challenge we've had running on a discord server for a couple of months.

MY INTRO POST
Hello!
I am Mara. (Only close people online can call me by my irl name in private, though I have to admit I am curious to see what people think my name is.)
I love reading, writing, arts and crafts, cooking, baking, and travel. And history, too, especially anything involving crime or assassination. I don't mind things like true crime, autopsy, surgery, so you don't have to worry about me getting upset about it. My blog will be a jumble of things. Oh! And also, I can't forget the very things my ever changing themes are based on: fantasy, dreams, astronomy, and deadly plants and ones that can also have a medicinal purpose are things I love.
I hope to stay as bellatrix nightshade, but I warn you my url changes all the time.
I can also be found on:
This SGE plus prequel themed discord server: https://discord.gg/PE7pCq72Nx
Wattpad
Ao3 (though I'm not too active on here)
Spotify
and instagram, which is private and only followed by a few people.
As of now, my main fandoms are SGE-related, especially the prequels and classical literature stuff. I hope to expand my horizons, though. I also am part of the Lunar Chronicles fandom, and I have read the Belladonna series by Adalyn Grace. I have a looong tbr so I hope to finish that...eventually.
About me:
I am still in school and I am homeschooled. BUT I have a job (oh sorry, two) and i do have weekly co ops so I'll mostly be on here when I am not busy.
I really want to get into the culinary field, especially working as a pastry chef. And I want to also eventually become a general manager or some form of high manager of a restaurant! My ultimate dream is to save enough money to study to work in a university as some sort of literary professor. (Aight I'll stop since this is sounding wayy too much like a resume.) But lastly, I would love to study on how to invest so I can have shares and all that, responsibly.
I don't take it seriously as a real life thing that should dominate anyone's lives, but here are some of my "personality stuff:"
ā˜€ā™“šŸŒ™ā™‹ā¬†ā™‹
INFJ-T
Melancholic-choleric
Type 5
I am spiritual as of now, and while I respect other religions don't really wish to be a part of an organized one. My beliefs are something I am set on and things I would rather research or seek out myself if I wish to.
Some things to keep in mind:
I don't care which pronouns you use for me as long as it isn't related to inanimate objects (outside of jokes, of course)
I don't mind most "politically incorrect" jokes or anything that otherwise may bother some people, but please be considerate when there are other people around. They may take it the wrong way, and understandably so. What I don't tolerate is religious blasphemy, suicide jokes, and jokes about SA and pedophilia
Be respectful of people's religious, political, fandom related, and so forth beliefs, even if they don't align with yours. if you really don't like someone, block. It's that easy. I don't accept most forms of cancelling on this blog.
No doxxing or plagiarism. Especially don't plagiarize my writing please, otherwise that earns you a block.
No NSFW and no pedophile behavior, please.
No discourse, especially political, activist, and religious debate on this blog. I am interested in these issues, but only in certain spaces and tumblr is not one of them.
No DMs from most people. If you really have to tell me something or it is out of consideration for another blogger, then please just ask me or let me know. ALSO, do NOT expect me to continue engaging with you in dms on an intimate level.
Asks are totally welcome, as long as they aren't NSFW, trolling, or hate. I also don't take writing requests.
Toxic behavior is not welcome, whether that comes from snowflakes, rad-SJWs, sexist and so forth.
Thank you for checking me out!
With love,
Mara.

Pinned post? Pinned post! It only took me 7 months I'm right on time! Anyway -
(If you've been here for a while you can safely ignore this, I just wanted to have something.)
What to call me: HT, Hyper, Hyperfixation, Tangent, I don't care. I'll answer to anything as long as I know you're talking to me.
Pronouns: He/it/they/she and anything under the sun! Preferences fluctuate but as a general rule I don't care much.
Tags
Don't expect proper tagging here, I'm not one for organization, but a few I've used in the past -
#ht overthinks - If you want some theories, rambles, and random shit I think is interesting in the shows I watch, you'll probably find that here.
#ht go to sleep - My sleep schedule is crap. Here's the evidence.
#tealstars - This is unreliable, but my LMK Tealstars AU! I do have a post with links for it further down though, if you want something easier.
#crossover au - This is more unreliable, but a LMK x TOH Crossover AU. Links further down, again.
Tealstars AU - A LMK AU where I take the other two celestial primates and make them Chikao and Tongbi, the chaos gremlin and space monkey.
AUs and OCs
@hyperfix-tangented is where most of the AUs/OC is now (well. Will be.)
Crossover AU - A borderline abandoned LMK AU where the LMK cast is thrown into the TOH universe upon Mei getting the Samadhi Fire. (I lost the posts -_-)
Apocalyptic Twins AU - A Future!ROTTMNT AU where Mikey adopts two Krang Mutants into the Resistance, and shenanigans ensue.
Mikey AU - An AU I haven't shared on here yet, but I love and am working on and will put here so I don't forget to add it later.
SOD OCs - Also stuff I haven't shared. Also something I'm putting here purely so I don't forget.
Other Stuff
My main blog is @ghostshadowmx (though I don't use it for anything besides saving writing resources, and in the past I posted a couple LMK fanfics there)
You can talk to me! Will I respond in a timely manner? That depends on if I remembered to unpause Tumblr, or if I went to bed before 5 AM the previous night.
You can tag me! However! Keep in mind I have limited spoons and my motivation will take me 50 different directions and in the direction of that tag game is unlikely to be one of them! This does not mean I don't care or appreciate it, this just means my body/brain is shit <3
I have several tags filtered! I have a lot of "reblog this/please reblog/etc." filtered out and will not always click through anyway! Please do not mistake this as me not caring or supporting anything, I use this blog as a place to destress and distract and so I try to avoid reblogging things that will upset or trigger me.
I am anxious as fuck! If I take a long time to reply when I'm clearly online without explanation, talk weirdly, am being awkward, etc., there's a high chance I'm being socially anxious and freaking out. It's nothing personal, so please be patient with me ^^
I am part of a system! I'm usually the only one on this blog so outside of DMs (maybe) it likely won't come up, but an alter runs @the-demon-hiding-under-your-bed and I have no filter, so it's easier to have this here on the odd occasion I do reference it. I'm also a ghost :3
My hyperfixations do switch around! This does not mean I've abandoned a project or fandom, or will enjoy stuff from there any less. It just means I'll ramble about something else more, and might put said project on pause for a little bit until I come back and figure out wtf I was doing again.
My Ao3 is under GhostshadowMX! As of the current moment it consists of a LMK one-shot, a LMK fanfic my brain refuses to work on, and three angsty ROTTMNT one-shots where I refuse to Leo or Mikey a break <3 I may or may not make a post when I post something, I am super anxious about sharing my writing and often need reassurance before feeling confident enough to tell people it's there.
I will vanish for literally days at a time! In this instance, you can usually reach me on Discord (if you have me added there), as it's more likely than not me getting distracted by something. If I vanish off Discord without warning, then please do not worry. I probably just decided to isolate for a little bit and forgot to tell anyone.
PFP and Banner is by @/mythicalmagical-monkeyman (don't wanna bother but also go look at their funnies)
Anything else I can't remember right now, and this is probably too long anyway! So! Yeeup! Hope this wasn't too much lol, waves

Here's a quandary I've suddenly found myself in: where do you stand on writers deleting their own works, fanfiction or otherwise? I've had this happen to me on more than one occasion - I go to look for an old favorite and find it's since been deleted from whatever site I read it on.
On the one hand, I'm inclined to think that, "Sure. The author wrote it, it's their call. I don't own the work - I certainly didn't pay for it. It's their decision, even if it's disappointing."
But at the same time I can't help but consider the alternative - if I believe in death of the author (and I do), that an author's work fundamentally isn't solely theirs once it's been published, posted, etc., then it also seems wrong to have a work deleted. Stories aren't the sole property of their creator, after all.
But then I circle back. D'you think there are different obligations between authors and readers and the works being made in fandom space? I know if I had bought a book and the author decided they wanted it back, I would feel pretty comfortable telling them no, given I'd paid for it and whatnot. But that's a different world from fanfic and fandom space generally.
So. You're insightful Clyde, I'm curious as to what you'll have to say here (and to all y'all thinking about it, don't flame me. I haven't decided where I stand here yet - haven't heard a good nail-in-the-coffin argument for or against yet).
Val are you a mind reader now? Iā€™ve been thinking about this exact conundrum the last few days!
(And yeah, as a general disclaimer: no flaming. Not allowed. Any asks of the sort will be deleted on sight and with great satisfaction.)
Honestly, Iā€™m not sure there is a ā€œnail-in-the-coffin argumentā€ for this, just becauseā€”as you lay outā€”there are really good points for keeping works around and really good points for allowing authors to have control over their work, especially when fanworks have no payment/legal obligations attached. In mainstream entertainment, your stories reflect a collaborative effort (publisher, editor, cover artists, etc.) so even if it were possible to delete the physical books out of everyoneā€™s home and library (and we're ignoring the censorship angle for the moment), thatā€™s no longer solely the authorā€™s call, even if they have done the lionā€™s share of the creative work. Though fanworks can also, obviously, be collaborative, theyā€™re usually not collaborative in the same way (more ā€œThis fic idea came about from discord conversations, a couple tumblr posts, and that one headcanon on redditā€) and they certainly donā€™t have the same monetary, legal, and professional strings attached. I wrote this fic as a hobby in my free time. Donā€™t I have the right to delete it like I also have the right to tear apart the blankets I knit?
Well yesā€¦ but also no? I personally view fanworks as akin to giftsā€”the academic term for our communities is literally ā€œgift economyā€ā€”so if we view it like that, suddenly that discomfort with getting rid of works is more pronounced. If I not only knit a blanket, but then gift it to a friend, it would indeed feel outside of my rights to randomly knock on their door one day and go, ā€œI actually decided I hate that? Please give it back so I can tear it to shreds, thanks :)ā€ Thatā€™s so rude! And any real friend would try to talk me out of it, explaining both why they love the blanket and, even if itā€™s not technically the best in terms of craftsmanship, it holds significant emotional value to them. Save it for that reason alone, at least. Fanworks carry that same meaningā€”ā€œI donā€™t care if itā€™s full of typos, super clichĆ©, and using some outdated, uncomfortable tropes. This story meant so much to me as a teenager and Iā€™ll always love itā€ā€”but the difference in medium and relationships means itā€™s easier to ignore all that. Iā€™m not going up to someoneā€™s house and asking face-to-face to destroy something I gave them (which is awkward as hell. That alone deters us), Iā€™m just pressing a button on my computer. Iā€™m not asking this of a personal friend that is involved in my IRL experiences, Iā€™m (mostly) doing this to online peers I know little, if anything, about. Itā€™s easy to distance ourselves from both the impact of our creative work and the act of getting rid of it while online. On the flip-side though, itā€™s also easier to demean that work and forget that the author is a real person who put a lot of effort into this creation. If someone didnā€™t like my knitted blanket I gave them as a gift, theyā€™re unlikely to tell me that. They recognize that itā€™s impolite and that the act of creating something for them is more important than the constructionā€™s craftsmanship. For fanworks though, with everyone spread around the world and using made up identities, people have fewer filters, happily tearing authors to shreds in the comments, sending anon hate, and the like. The fact that weā€™re both prefacing this conversation with, ā€œPlease donā€™t flameā€ emphasizes that. So if I wrote a fic with some iffy tropes, ā€œcringyā€ dialogue, numerous typos, whatever and enough people decided to drag me for itā€¦ I donā€™t know whether Iā€™d resist the urge to just delete the fic, hopefully ending those interactions. Thereā€™s a reason why weā€™re constantly reminding others to express when they enjoy someone elseā€™s work: the ratio of praise to criticism in fandom (or simply praise to seeming indifference because there was no public reaction at all), is horribly skewed.
So I personally canā€™t blame anyone for deleting. Iā€™d like to hope that more people realize the importance of keeping fanworks around, that everything you put out there is loved by someoneā€¦ but Iā€™m well aware that the reality is far more complicated. Itā€™s hard to keep that in mind. Itā€™s hard to keep something around that you personally no longer like. Harder still to keep up a work you might be harassed over, that someone IRL discovered, that youā€™re disgusted with because you didnā€™t know better back thenā€¦ there are lots of reasons why people delete and I ultimately canā€™t fault them for that. I think the reasons why people delete stem more from problems in fandom culture at largeā€”trolling, legal issues, lack of positive feedback, cancel culture, etc.ā€”than anything the author has or has not personally done, and since such work is meant to be a part of an enjoyable hobbyā€¦ I canā€™t rightly tell anyone to shoulder those problems, problems they canā€™t solve themselves, just for the sake of mine or othersā€™ enjoyment. The reason Iā€™ve been thinking about this lately is because I was discussing Attack on Titan and how much I dislike the source material now, resulting in a very uncomfortable relationship with the fics I wrote a few years back. Iā€™ve personally decided to keep them up and thatā€™s largely because some have received fantastic feedback and Iā€™m aware of how it will hurt those still in the fandom if I take them down. So if a positive experience is the cornerstone of me keeping fics up, I can only assume that negative experiences would likewise been the cornerstone of taking them down. And if getting rid of that fic helps your mental health, or solves a bullying problem, or just makes you happierā€¦ that, to me, is always more important than the fic itself.
But, of course, itā€™s still devastating for everyone who loses the work, which is why my compromise-y answer is to embrace options like AO3ā€™s phenomenal orphaning policy. Thatā€™s a fantastic middle ground between saving fanworks and allowing authors to distances themselves from them. Iā€™ve also gotten a lot more proactive about saving the works I want to have around in the future. Regardless of whether we agree with deleting works or not, the reality is we do live in a world where it happens, so best to take action on our own to save what we want to keep around. Though I respect an authorā€™s right to delete, I also respect the readerā€™s right to maintain access to the work, once published, in whatever way they can. That's probably my real answer here: authors have their rights, but readers have their rights too, so if you decide to publish in the first place, be aware that these rights might, at some point, clash. I download all my favorite fics to Calibre and, when Iā€™m earning more money (lol) I hope to print and bind many for my personal library. Iā€™m also willing to re-share fic if others are looking for them, in order to celebrate the authorā€™s work even if they no longer want anything to do with it. Not fanfiction in this case, but one of my fondest memories was being really into Phantom of the Opera as a kid and wanting, oh so desperately, to read Susan Kayā€™s Phantom. Problem was, it was out of print at the time, not available at my library, and this was before the age of popping online and finding a used copy. For all intents and purposes, based on my personal situation, this was a case of a book just disappearing from the world. So when an old fandom mom on the message boards I frequented offered to type her copy up chapter by chapter and share it with me, you can only imagine how overjoyed I was. Idk what her own situation was that something like scanning wouldnā€™t work, but the point is she spent months helping a fandom kid she barely knew simply because a story had resonated with her and she wanted to share it. That shit is powerful!
So if someone wants to deleteā€”if thatā€™s something they need right nowā€”I believe that is, ultimately, their decisionā€¦ but please try your hardest to remember that the art you put out into the world is having an impact and people will absolutely miss it when itā€™s gone. Often to the point of doing everything they can to put it back out into the world even if you decide to take it out. Hold onto that feeling. The love you have for your favorite fic, fanart, meta, whatever it is? Someone else has that for your work too. I guarantee it.
So take things down as needed, but for the love of everything keep copies for yourself. You may very well want to give it back to the world someday.

Note
but this survey is not going to give you an idea of 'how fans REALLY feel' or whether your sentiment is the majority. please do not pretend that. (3/3)
Hi there, thanks for your ask. This was a 3 part ask, so here's a screenshot from my inbox of the whole thing for context.
Tumblr media
Might I also say that I do appreciate that you are sharing your thoughts with me in a cordial way.
It would be truly amazing to have the resources to write, outreach, moderate and report in a way that is unbiased and balanced. But I am not a scientific researcher with a staff and research tools. I am well aware that this is not possible. But I am doing my best as the only person responsible for this survey.
I do see your concerns on the survey and how I wrote it. Like I said before, I did try to remove my bias as much as I could, while including questions that I was interested in hearing responses for, as well as a few that were requested by fellow fans that were sent to me through messages and asks. (Many of the questions touch on topics that in my experience across the internet, have been points of tension and drama within the fandom. Which is why they were chosen) I would also point out that this is a passion project done out of desire for connection and insight on different opinions. I wrote this on my own with only my own curiosities as a basis for measure and focus. While I curbed my bias as much as I could, I am aware that it is there and can be gleamed from the survey even if you don't read through my blog.
This is not written to serve a thesis study or advance scientific study of fandom. This is very casual and informal. That being said, once I write up the results, I will report on the bias and any other concerns myself and respondents may find within a "limitations" section. I am sure there will be more things to take into account. I am not sure where I will post yet though. I want to make sure it's an accessible place, so maybe AO3.
Because I am doing this on my own, I do agree that my reach will not necessarily be expansive. However, this is being actively shared by many on this site. I did also share it in a few other social media/fan spaces that are arguably more open than tumblr: Instagram, tiktok, twitter and discord. I am doing what I can and everyone is welcome to continue sharing it. In regards to reach, the goal is also to keep the survey available for a few weeks, so as to allow diverse responses from all over.
I am aware that my survey is not the only one out there. And that makes me glad! Regardless of the weight of biases in them, that's a good thing. From what I have seen, they are focusing on different things and are written and biased in different ways. Naturally, I cannot speak for those surveys and how they are written and nor do I pretend to. However, it is natural to assume that at least some bits of bias will be found in them as well. I do not expect any of them to be comparable to each other or to be used in harmony to draw definite and unbiased conclusions on the fandom. The way these surveys (including mine, of course) are written and being handled makes that unrealistic. But I do look forward to see what can be observed and learned through all of them.
Perhaps an intricate disclosure that goes in depth with such things could be helpful. Currently, the survey post has a bit of info and the survey has a short intro. If a disclosure is needed, I can certainly write that up.
Additionally, I will state again that it was not my intention to scare off those who disagree with my opinions or who dislike my questions. If those who have opposing views (seemingly like yourself) do decide to go through the entire survey, then they are welcome and I look forward to hearing their responses.
Lastly, my "feelings" are my own and I am dealing with those in my own private way OUTSIDE of the survey. Regardless of what is found in the survey responses, I look forward to studying them. It will certainly be nice to read that others have similar opinions to mine but validation or lack thereof, is not going to stop me from enjoying the learning process of this survey. And whether alone or in a large group, I will continue enjoying Loki and the fandom in my own way OUTSIDE of the survey.

Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
I'm pretty solidly a Sequels fan, but I have a special place in my heart for the Prequels. I'm a fic writer who dabbles mostly in canon universe AUs, what ifs, that sort of stuff. Primarily my fics have Rey with a tendency to focus on the First Order characters and plots.
My Top Faves
A classic Reylo fic from an old friend -Ā Beneath the Facade. It technically has a prologue fic before it in the series, but this piece was the one that I really enjoyed way back in the EARLY days of Reylo.
Because I'm an insufferable Reylux fan, I have to rec at least one. This piece by @every-day-is-star-wars-dayĀ  a oneshot that ever so masterfully crushes my heart every time -Ā Thread
My one Original Trilogy rec, this is a beast of a long fic but so, so good -Ā Dark Times
My Own Stuff
Reylux, medieval AU -Ā La Vita PrimusĀ -Ā is the first in a small series of this AU

Who Am I?
Call me apple. she/her/hers. Iā€™m gold_pen_leaps on dreamwidth, ao3, and pillowfort. @[email protected] on mastodon. I am doing my best to boycott tumblr, but I've been known to use a tumblr link embed on pf from time to time. (gold_pen_leapsĀ (DW),Ā gold_pen_leapsĀ (AO3))
Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
Iā€™m mainly into the Sequels and the Mandalorian. I joined the server for Hux/Kylo/Rey and all the combinations of the characters in my ot3. I can edit better than I can write. Sometimes I comment on fics.
My Top Faves
A Dance of TitansĀ by @lucidlucy is a really long reylux fic. The delicious slowburn makes all the flavors combine in an amazing way. Love how they battle the main villain!
My Own Stuff
I helped give feedback on the second part of a series. Does that count? This is knight_of_dance's fic. It's really cool to see writers' takes on Modern AU, and this one has influenced my ideas of what sort of kinks those characters have. :smirk:Ā Switch Up
Mizz

Arsanimo - Marion
Who Am I?
Hi, Iā€™m Arsanimo, self taught artist and nerd from Germany thatā€™s mostly lurking. You can find me with this username on tumblr, twitter and instagram. I draw mostly Reylo at the moment. ( @arsanimo,Ā ArsanimoĀ (Twitter),Ā ArsanimoĀ (IG))
Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
Iā€˜m in my thirties and an OT fan since birth, because my dad was obsessed with Star Wars and we watched it a lot as kids - they are the go to christmas movies in our family. Even as a very small kid I loved Vader. I didnā€™t like the ST quite as much when it came out in cinemas but still watched them multiple times. Iā€™m much more fond of them now. But my love for Star Wars really got renewed with the ST. I really liked TFA and TLJ a lot. Not a great fan of TROS though, but to each their own. I recently started watching TCW, if you havenā€™t go watch it! The Mandalorian is also great and feels more like the OT for me, which I love. Oh, and R1 was awesome, I loved that one! Solo also was good. I think I will be a lifelong fan because itā€™s such a rich universe and everybody can pick a favorite. Iā€™m also good at ignoring the parts I donā€™t like, lol. But Iā€˜m mostly exhausted about all the drama on social media, so at the moment I take a bit of a break from social media and only post from time to time. And Iā€™m of the firm believe to ship and let ship and if the art and fics are good, you can also find me enjoying ships outside of Reylo (honestly, some Kylux art out there, woah... and Finnrey is always so tender but Stormpilot has two hot guys in it... and donā€™t get me started about Finnrose! You probably get the gist)
My Top Faves
Itā€™s hard to name so few, there are so many good artists out there. ButĀ Winter of HerĀ (Twitter) has some outstanding art in her own style. Than I really like the style ofĀ KhallionĀ (Twitter), check her out.

Knight_Of_Cookies
Who am I?
Allo allo, I go by many names but many know me as cookies here. Lol I'm from the US and I've been a lifelong A+, gold star , nerd my whole life. I love writing among 5 million other hobbies. I am on Tumblr and A03. (@knight-of-cookies,Ā Knight_of_CookiesĀ (AO3))
Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
It all started with the prequels which I fell in love with and even wrote my first fan fic on. (I dragged it from fanfic.net to A03 for my own form of personal torture) I dropped out of star wars until I was in Japan and a close group of friends got me to watch Roque One and play a star wars based table top role playing game, which dumped me back into this fandom hardcore. I fell in love with the sequel trilogy and now I'm stuck forever. Lol
I have been writing on A03 for around 2 years now for star wars and it's been the most productive and progressive work I've ever done thanks to ya'll.
Also, hey, I created this multishippers discord, because multishipping rocks and everyone should do it. :P I know I've never active enough but I love this space and the people in it! My fav part about multishipping is how I'm always discovering yet another ship that is awesome. It never ends. ^^
My top favsĀ - (of things no one should be surprised by)
BeastieĀ by @feckyeswriting. It spawned a written series(multiple actually)
GluttonĀ by Witchoil. Just very good dark and wonderful kinky smut. Always go back to this one.
In the house that skywalker builtĀ by @aicosu. This story got me into Reylux in a way I'll never recover from.
My own stuff
Nothing but ThemselvesĀ - This is my favorite beast of a story I've ever written and it will be beautiful when I finish it. One day. Lol
TanzakuĀ -Ā One of my most polished pieces thanks to the Reylo Anthology. My best combo of: insert culture nerding here and captive Ben as personal tropes.

Aro-Spec Artist Profile: Alex
Today I have the delight of introducing Alex, better known to aro-spec Tumblr as @arotaro and @mutant-jojos!
Alex is a bisexual, half-Puerto Rican multi-disciplinary aromantic artist and creative with severe ADHD. Youā€™ll find her prolific fanworks on AO3 as EmeraldTrash666, writing primarily for the JoJoā€™s Bizarre Adventure fandom. Her bold, colourful art for the JoJoā€™s Bizarre Adventure, Fullmetal Alchemist, Hetalia, Pokemon and Vocaloid fandoms is also available on Redbubble under the name StellaHagane.
She writes, she creates digital art and she dabbles in music, sewing and fashion design, single-handedly proving that thereā€™s no such thing as too much creative awesome for any one aromantic!
With us Alex talks about finding the word aro, the power of fandom and creative fanworks, her love of aro Jotaro, the challenges of creating with ADHD, the struggles of being an aro gen writer in fandom and the importance of expressing our aro headcanons. Everything she says is absolutely on point, so please letā€™s give her all our love, encouragement, gratitude, kudos and follows for taking the time to explore what it is to be aromantic and creative.

Can you share with us your story in being aro-spec?
I guess in some ways my ā€œstoryļæ½ļæ½ starts out pretty typical. Got older, kept waiting for my First Crushā„¢, never got it, started worrying and trying to force myself to develop crushes. I actually was in a relationship with another girl on a forum I was part of as a teenager, but eventually I realized that I didnā€™t really like her romantically, and the relationship started to become really unpleasant for me. I eventually felt so miserable that I didnā€™t even want to talk at her at all, even though we were close friends, but I didnā€™t want to break up with her - partly because I didnā€™t want to hurt her feelings, partly because we were everyoneā€™s ā€œOTPā€ and I didnā€™t want my friends to hate me for ruining that. But eventually I did break up with her, and Iā€™m happy to say she took it with grace and weā€™re still close friends today! (Sheā€™s ace and a great writer/artist herself, too!)
I was part of a very nice LGBTQ+ group as a teenager, but I could never figure out my identity. I felt really ashamed and alone. Whenever I brought up how messed up I felt because Iā€™d never had a crush on anyone, everyone was like, ā€œOh, sounds like you must be asexual!ā€, but I knew I wasnā€™t, and that was the worst part. Even though I knew aromanticism was a thing, nobody ever talked about it. It was only ever in the context of aroaces, so I didnā€™t know I was aro. I thought I must have had some sort of mental illness or something, but certainly not a legitimate orientation, nothing to be proud of like everyone else.
During that time, I found myself connecting on a deep emotional level to characters like Alphonse Elric, Fujiwara no Sai, the X-Men in general (although Iā€™ve been an X-Men fan since I was literally a baby), basically anyone who was somehow ā€œdifferentā€ from the rest of humanity, even though I never understood why, since I was a fairly privileged kid who had never experienced much bullying or anything. Weirdly enough, it was Jojoā€™s Bizarre Adventure that helped me realize I was aro and come to terms with it; I saw an interview with Hirohiko Araki, the author of JJBA, where he was asked what type of girls Jotaro Kujo likes, and replied that he didnā€™t think Jotaro liked girls. The obvious interpretation would be that Jotaroā€™s gay, but somehow, one way or another, I decided to go with the idea that Jotaroā€™s aromantic. Jotaro also happened to be a character I really related to for reasons I couldnā€™t quite articulate, so around the time I was 18 I put two and two together and was like ... oh shitā€¦

Can you share with us the story behind your creativity?
Iā€™ve always been weird in the way Iā€™m very creative, but tend to kinda bounce around from hobby to hobby. Other people draw, or write, or sing, while I draw for a month, and then write for a month and sew for a week and play video games for a week, and then I draw some more, and then I try out something completely new, and then I write again. I think it must be an ADHD thing, idk. In any case, Iā€™ve just always been really passionate about making stuff, whatever that stuff happens to be.
Iā€™ve also always been very much fandom-oriented. Ever since I was a toddler, I used to dictate fanfiction to my mom (back then it usually involved Winnie the Pooh, the Powerpuff Girls, Godzilla, and my dog). I mostly draw fanart. I find that Iā€™m not really capable of writing original stories, but Iā€™m great at getting fanfics in character, and I love writing them. I love taking stories I already love and reinterpreting them, seeing what it would be like if the characters were put into different situations, etc.
Because of my ADHD, I really struggle with actually finishing things. I try really really hard, I really do, and Iā€™ve been trying to push myself even harder these past few years. Iā€™ve made progress, but itā€™s still extremely difficult, so Iā€™m very sorry for all the projects Iā€™ve abandoned over the years. Sorry I still havenā€™t finished the fic that was supposed to be done in early March. Iā€™m trying, really. I promise Iā€™m working on the next chapter of BLaD, too.
Are there any particular ways your aro-spec experience is expressed in your art?
Of course, pretty much everything I write is gen. Even if I include romantic relationships in my fics, I never write about romance, just stories which also happen to include some characters who might be dating someone. And obviously I always write Jotaro as aro! Thatā€™s really important to me. No matter which AU Iā€™m writing, heā€™s always aro. (And autistic, but thatā€™s off topic.)
Iā€™m also not really into shipping because of my romance repulsion, but I ship Joseph Joestar and Caesar Zeppeli. The thing is ā€¦ Iā€™ve always viewed it as a unique relationship, sort of difficult to define as being strictly romantic or platonic or sexual, just kind of their own thing that defies words. Thatā€™s how Iā€™ve always written it. I had the sudden realization recently that this strange view on the only ship I really actually like (at the moment, anyway) is probably due to my being aro, lmao.
Tumblr media
What challenges do you face as an aro-spec artist?
People donā€™t read gen fics, and people arenā€™t interested in aro stories. Thatā€™s just the way it is. I do have some dedicated readers, whom I love deeply, but in generalā€¦ I could post something with a deep plot, something funny and dramatic and witty and touching, something I poured my heart and soul into for months, and itā€™ll get very few hits/comments/kudos, while someone else could post the same generic 2,000-word romance fic everyoneā€™s seen a dozen times over, with no editing or anything, and get twice the amount of traffic my fics do in half the time. Itā€™s really crushing.
How do you connect to the aro-spec and a-spec communities as an aro-spec person?
I dunnoā€¦ The aro community feels so small. Online, I have a small circle of aro mutuals who all kind of vent collectively, and Iā€™m part of Arocalypse and a few aro/aspec Discord servers, but I still feel like there isnā€™t really much of a larger community to be part of in the same way that there is for other orientations. Offline, Iā€™ve never met another aro, or even anyone who actually knows what aromanticism is prior to me explaining it to them.
I also donā€™t feel like thereā€™s a very unified ā€œaspec communityā€. As an allo aro, I feel very rejected by the ace community - not to say that I feel like I should be part of the ace community, since Iā€™m not ace, but I feel like they throw aros under the bus a lot. I mean, weā€™ve all seen the ā€œasexuals can feel love, just like anybody else! ā€¦ oh, except for aroaces, I guess. But the rest of us are normal, so you should accept us!ā€ rhetoric. Both within and outside the aspec communities, aros are rarely treated with the same priority as aces, even though weā€™re arguably in a much more difficult position than your average allo ace.
That being said, Iā€™m glad there is an aro community at all. I donā€™t know where Iā€™d be now if I were still questioning. Probably not in a very good place.
Tumblr media
How do you connect to your creative community as an aro-spec person?
As I mentioned, thereā€™s a general lack of interest in gen fics or sympathy for romance-repulsed people in general. Itā€™s really difficult being romance repulsed in fandom spaces, because nobody cares about anything other than ships. There are very few gen fics, and even less that are a decent length, not abandoned, or cater to my specific interests, so I have to write my own. I donā€™t often have anything good to read; most of the big fics, the ones with cool plots and long word counts and ongoing updates, are ship fics. If Iā€™m lucky, maybe two gen fics will be posted in one week, and maybe one of them will be longer than a few thousand words. Maybe one might even have my favorite characters. But usually genfics are few and far between, and kind of random in terms of what youā€™ll get. Sometimes I get so bored that I read ship fics anyway, and then I always wind up feeling really awful afterwards.
Iā€™ve written, over the course of the past two years alone, over 20 gen fics. But whenever I vent that sometimes Iā€™d like to actually get to read something, I always get someone telling me, ā€œWell if you want gen fics, write some yourself! You have to make the change! You canā€™t demand people write stuff for you!ā€ And of course, at the same time itā€™s totally acceptable to request ship fics from your favorite author, and if you complain that there arenā€™t enough fics for your rarepair, itā€™s seen as relatable and totally valid.
Fandom is just ā€¦ really, really amatonormative, tbh. I hate it. Iā€™m trying to make a difference (I did organize Gen Jojo Week along with my friend Rachel last year, and hopefully will again this year), but thereā€™s only so much I can do.
How can the aro-spec community best help you as a creative?
Aside from reblogging my art and promoting my fics? Talk about stuff. Talk about aro stuff in fandom. Seriously! I know it seems obvious that aro people would like aro headcanons and gen fics and all that, but we need to talk about them more. Nobody outside the community gives enough of a shit about us to have aro headcanons, so letā€™s get them popular. Talk about your favorite aro headcanons. Talk about your favorite gen fics. Talk about how such-and-such character is totally aro; talk about how excited you are to see aro characters in fics. My dream is for aro headcanons to become just as common and popular as any other type of headcanon.
Tumblr media
Can you share with us something about your current project?
This is old news to most of the people who already know me, but my current big project that Iā€™ve been working on for several years now is Between Life and Death, a drama/horror/supernatural JJBA fic.
(WARNING: PHANTOM BLOOD AND STARDUST CRUSADERS SPOILERS BELOW.)
The plot of the fic is that Dio wins at the end of Stardust Crusaders, and after realizing that he has no hobbies other than harassing the Joestars, he decides to bring Jonathan back by sticking his head (whichā€¦ weā€™ll just assume Dio preserved for plot purposes) onto Jotaroā€™s body. Obviously, Jonathan is NOT happy with this arrangement, but it also turns out that Jotaroā€™s still alive, just not in control of his body. He can still use his stand, so he essentially uses Star Platinum as a sort of proxy for interacting with the environment around him, even though he only comes out when Jonathanā€™s alone since he doesnā€™t want Dio to know heā€™s alive.
Basically, itā€™s the story of a depressed vampire and a traumatized ghost. Itā€™s a very introspective fic; most of the story consists of conflicts between Dio and Jonathan, and Jonathan and Jotaro struggling to come to terms with their new existences - Jonathan being unable to reconcile vampirism with his personal morals, and Jotaro having one hell of an identity crisis while also mourning the deaths of his friends and family. The plot is picking up, though, and there is an end goal in mind, as well as an eventual sequel!
As for where the story-in-progress is at right now ā€¦ well, the next ā€œstageā€ of the plot is hamon training for Kakyoin and Avdol, which will be fun. This chapter also includes several dream sequences, including an extended appearance by Mary Joestar (Jonathanā€™s mom), and a very serious and dark scene which I almost ruined by having dream! Will Zeppeli refer to Jonathan as his padawan. Yeah.
Have you any forthcoming works we should look forward to?
As mentioned, Iā€™m working on chapter 9 of Between Life and Death! And working on and off on some stuff for the mutants AU. Most recently, on a whim I rewrote the lyrics to Handbeat Clocktower by MOTHY to be about Jonathan Joestar. Somehow this went far enough that Iā€™m making an actual UTAU rendition of this ā€œparodyā€, and hopefully itā€™ll be done sometime in the next few weeks. Iā€™m really having fun with it and I hope people like it!
