PIPE-FREEING AGENTS AND SURFACTANT
In the dynamic world of oil and gas exploration, the efficiency and success of drilling operations are paramount. Amid the complexities of drilling through various geological formations, engineers and chemists have harnessed the power of specialized chemicals to overcome challenges. Two key players in this realm are pipe-freeing agents and surfactants, whose unique properties and applications significantly contribute to the optimization of drilling processes.
Tumblr media
Pipe-Freeing Agents: Unleashing the Drill Pipe
Drilling for oil and gas often encounters a common adversary – the sticking of the drill pipe in wellbores. This phenomenon, known as differential sticking, arises from the formation of a filter cake on the wellbore wall. Enter pipe-freeing agents, also referred to as lubricants. These agents are designed to tackle this challenge head-on by modifying the properties of the drilling mud or fluid.
Friction Reduction The primary function of pipe-freeing agents is to reduce friction between the drill pipe and the wellbore. This reduction in friction is essential for maintaining the smooth movement of the pipe, preventing costly delays and potential damage.
Filter Cake Modification Pipe-freeing agents alter the composition and characteristics of the filter cake that forms on the wellbore wall. By doing so, they mitigate the risk of differential sticking, ensuring that the drill pipe can move freely through the wellbore.
Lubrication Acting as effective lubricants, these agents ensure the seamless and efficient movement of the drill pipe. In challenging drilling conditions, where forces can impede progress, lubrication becomes a crucial factor in maintaining operational momentum.
Surfactants: The Versatile Solution in Drilling Fluids
Surfactants, with their unique amphiphilic structure, find widespread use in drilling fluids within the oil and gas industry. Their ability to interact with both water and oil makes them versatile players in addressing various challenges associated with drilling operations.
Emulsification Surfactants play a crucial role in breaking down or stabilizing emulsions within drilling fluids. This property improves the overall stability and performance of the fluid, contributing to efficient drilling.
Wetting Enhanced wetting properties of drilling fluids are achieved through surfactants. This ensures better coverage on solid surfaces, promoting improved drilling efficiency.
Foaming/De-foaming Controlling the formation and elimination of foam in drilling fluids is vital for maintaining stability. Surfactants are adept at managing foam levels, preventing issues that can hinder drilling progress.
Cleaning Surfactants assist in the removal of contaminants from surfaces within the drilling system. This cleaning action contributes to the overall effectiveness and cleanliness of the operation.
Conclusion
In the ever-evolving landscape of oil and gas exploration, the role of pipe-freeing agents and surfactants is not only pivotal but transformative. These chemical marvels, with their ability to address challenges ranging from pipe sticking to emulsion stability, are indispensable tools in the hands of drilling professionals. As technology and chemical engineering continue to advance, the development of novel formulations and the strategic application of these agents will undoubtedly remain at the forefront of efforts to optimize drilling processes and ensure the sustainability of oilfield operations.

The Wonders of Iodophor: Cleaning with a Dash of Science
If you're in the world of cleaning and sanitization (and who isn't these days?), chances are that you have come across something small but powerful called iodophor. Now, before you start scratching your head, wondering if this is the name of some mystical potion or a futuristic robot, let me assure you: iodophor is an unsung hero of cleanliness. So, grab your favorite mug (sanitized, of course), pour some coffee, and let's dive into the bubbly, foamy world of iodophors. Trust me, it's more fun than it sounds!
Tumblr media
What Is Iodophor Anyway?
Think of iodophor as the sophisticated, socially acceptable cousin of iodine. A combination of iodine and surfactant (that is, a detergent-like substance), it does miracles to sanitize and disinfect surfaces. Unlike pure iodine, which can be too intense, iodophor is less irritating and more delicate on surfaces while remaining strong in its attack on bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
Iodophors are used in everything from food processing plants to breweries, and even veterinary clinics. Why? Because they are the perfect blend of efficiency and safety. And, they can be used in various concentrations for different purposes. They are like the Swiss Army knives of sanitation.
The Science Behind the Magic
Now, don’t glaze over just yet; we’re going to keep this simple! Iodophors work by releasing free iodine, which loves to mess with microorganisms’ cell walls. Imagine iodine as a tiny wrecking ball—it breaks down these pesky invaders, leaving your surfaces squeaky clean. And the best part? Iodophor is stabilized with a surfactant, meaning it’s both effective and user-friendly.
Bonus points: it's also an acidifier! That just means it lowers the pH level, making it an unlivable environment for almost all bacteria. It gives germs a one-way ticket to Nope-ville.
Applications of Iodophor: Where It Shines?
Food and Beverage Industry
Iodophor is a superstar in breweries and dairies. Cleaning tanks, pipes, and other equipment is easy with this solution. Brewers love it because it does not leave behind any funky aftertaste. Imagine sipping your favorite craft beer and tasting cleaning chemicals—no thanks!
Healthcare and Veterinary Clinics
Iodophor is the champ when it comes to cleaning medical and veterinary tools. It's used for pre-surgical scrubs and hand sanitizers, ensuring that everyone is always safe and sterile.
Home Brewing and Fumigation
Yes, homebrewers, iodophor has your back too! It's perfect for cleaning bottles and fermenters, ensuring no unwanted guests (read: bacteria) crash your brew party. And while iodophor isn't a direct fumigation agent, its disinfecting prowess can complement your fumigation efforts. Think of it as the dynamic duo of clean.
How to Use Iodophor Like a Pro
It's as easy as making instant noodles, except you won't be eating it (please don't). Here are the simple steps:
Dilution: Mix iodophor with water. The usual ratio is about 1 ounce of iodophor to 5 gallons of water. (Pro tip: Read the label for specifics.)
Application: Apply the solution to the surface you want to clean. This could be equipment, floors, or countertops.
Wait: Let it sit for a few minutes to do its magic. In most cases, 60 seconds is enough to kill the nasties.
Rinse or Not: Depending on what you are cleaning, you may not even need to rinse it off. Always check the instructions.
The Pros and Cons of Iodophor
Pros:
Effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms.
Gentle on most surfaces and non-corrosive.
Doesn't leave behind harmful residues.
Affordable and easy to use.
Cons:
Can stain porous materials (hello, iodine's trademark yellow-brown hue!).
Requires proper storage and handling to maintain its effectiveness.
A Funny (But True) Note on Iodophor
If iodophor were a superhero, it'd wear a cape and carry a mop. It's not flashy, it doesn't have a catchphrase, but boy, does it get the job done. Just imagine bacteria and viruses looking at iodophor and going, "Not this guy again!"
Conclusion: Iodophor—Your Cleaning BFF
In a world of cleaning solutions, iodophor stands out as the reliable, hard-working friend we all need. It is tough on germs, easy to use, and versatile enough for everything from acidifiers to fumigation support. So, whether you're sanitizing brewing equipment, medical tools, or just looking for a solid disinfectant, iodophor is a top-of-the-line choice.
Next time you’re knee-deep in cleaning tasks, remember iodophor—the little solution that could. And if you’ve read this far, congratulations! You’re officially an iodophor aficionado. Now go forth and clean with confidence—and maybe a little sass!

How Do Chemical Injection Pumps Work?
What is the chemical injection pump?
Systems for chemical injection pump are widely employed in the world's oil extraction and refining sectors. In order to avoid the formation fluid from freezing due to pressure drop and to improve the dependability of the ground test system and the upper and lower oil nozzles, the chemical injection pump system is primarily used to inject methanol or ethylene glycol into the fluid upstream of the oil nozzle manifold in oil production. The oil well's pressure drop range can continue regular operation.
Chemical injection pumps are designed to boost well production, reduce corrosion, and increase pipeline throughput. They function under particular chemical and fluid needs depending on the temperature and pressure the injection pump will be running at.
Chemical injection pumps ultimately provide the manufacturing system with predetermined quantities of certain chemicals.
Several processes are required for the secure application of chemicals and the efficient operation of oilfield systems. Chemical Injection Pumps are a widely used system in Canada's oil and gas industry. Some of the chemicals used include solvents, de-salting agents, corrosion inhibitors, biocides, clarifiers, scale inhibitors, hydrate inhibitors, oxygen scavengers, surfactants, and other chemicals. Methanol is occasionally used to prevent pipes from becoming clogged by freezing. Despite the complexity of the topic, it is important to understand the different applications, limitations, and situations that have an impact on how well these systems function collectively.
How Do Chemical Injection Pumps Work?
Through the chemical injection hole on the data head, the chemical reagent is injected. To assure safety, the chemical injection hole often has a needle valve, a safety valve, and a check valve. In the process sector, chemical injection systems are used to precisely inject liquid chemicals into return or injection fluids at high or low pressure. Methanol, ethylene glycol, preservatives, oxygen scavengers, drilling fluid additives (caustic soda and liquid polymers), and defoamers are frequently added to the return fluid as chemicals. The raw materials for the reaction can also be delivered quantitatively to the autoclave using the chemical injection pump system.
Hydraulic components operating at extremely high pressures, mechanical components, and driving air components make up the chemical injection pump system. The driving air component serves as the system's power source, while the hydraulic component supplies the ultra-high pressure source for the chemical injection system. The chemical injection system may operate at a maximum working pressure of 1,050bar. The high-pressure circuit contains filtering and over-pressure protection mechanisms, as well as capabilities for oil level and pressure display, pressure maintenance, and unloading. The driving power source for the entire system is provided by the driving air component. The driving air circuit's maximum working pressure is 10bar. The driving air circuit contains filtration, overpressure protection, pressure display, and pressure adjustment features.

Tips For Choosing a High Pressure Cleaning Machine
High pressure cleaning is one of the most effective ways to remove stubborn stains. Its cleaning power depends on several parameters, including the water flow, pressure, temperature, and detergents. Operators can experience trigger gun stress when operating high-pressure cleaners. Fortunately, there are ways to limit these risks, such as safe ergonomic design, proper training, and protective clothing. Listed below are some tips for choosing a high-pressure cleaning machine.
When selecting a high-pressure cleaning machine, consider the type of surface you need to clean. If you're cleaning mud off your bike, 100-bar pressure will do. For dirt on furniture and decking, 120-bar pressure is best. If you're cleaning ground-in dirt, higher pressure is required. If you're unsure of the right pressure for the job, consult a professional. If you're cleaning a concrete driveway, for example, a 120-bar pressure might be better.
The best high-pressure cleaning solution should be eco-friendly and contain only hot water, or be free of harsh chemicals. This method also makes it possible to brush away loose debris without damaging plants. Liquid solutions aren't necessary if the pressure cleaner uses hot water and is powered by strong motor. But if your job requires an extra powerful clean, you can also use a pressure washer without any liquid solutions. But be sure to check the manufacturer's instructions carefully before purchasing a machine.
A high-pressure cleaning system should come complete with a motor and a pressure pump. Other equipment includes hoses, pipes, nozzles, and controls. High-pressure washing can remove dirt and grime from various surfaces, including concrete. In some cases, it is used before line marking services are applied to a surface. So, it's best to hire a company that is experienced with this process. You'll be glad you did.
In addition to pH, detergents should have a specific cleaning agent. Surfactants help lift soil while blended solvents break down oils and grease. Other cleaning agents include chelating agents, water conditioning agents, and abrasives. Detergents are also essential for high-pressure cleaning because they keep inorganic soils emulsified. A high-pressure washer should be safe for coloured and polished concrete surfaces. A clean driveway will add value to your property.
High-pressure cleaning equipment also saves on water. With minimal water usage, high-pressure cleaning equipment can effectively clean the interior of your car. As a result, floorboards and seats don't become saturated, and the air flow will remove loose dirt and dust. Consequently, high-pressure cleaning can save you a lot of time and energy. If you're tired of cleaning your floors yourself, you should consider high-pressure cleaning.
If you're planning to use a high-pressure cleaner, you should follow all manufacturer's instructions. Always turn the water valve horizontally after use, so it won't drip and damage your car. A high-pressure cleaning tool also works on a variety of surfaces. Its extra rotating nozzle is convenient for cleaning cars. The flow-control valve allows you to adjust the spray pressure, ranging from a gentler to a high-pressure cleaning.
High-pressure cleaning can extend the life of cladding and paint. Furthermore, it helps prevent the growth of mildew and mold, which can lead to costly repairs. While high-pressure cleaning is not suitable for every home, it is a cost-effective way to make your home look good. So, it's worth a try if you want to enjoy the benefits of high-pressure cleaning. So, be sure to choose the right company!
In order to ensure a flawless result, you should choose a high-pressure cleaning company that knows what to use. These companies have high-pressure washers with commercial-grade equipment and know exactly which products to use. This way, they can guarantee you the highest level of satisfaction with the results. So, what should you look for in a high-pressure cleaning company? They have the experience and equipment to tackle a variety of tasks, including concrete cleaning.
High-pressure washing technology also helps you tackle difficult spaces. For example, high-pressure water jetting helps remove old coatings, as well as deeply embedded crystallized salt. It also decreases the chloride level on surfaces, which improves adhesion and the life of paint coatings. If you're not sure what high-pressure water jetting can do for you, read on! If you're in the construction industry, high-pressure cleaning is an essential tool.
High-pressure washing is a fast and cost-effective way to remove grime and stains on exterior surfaces. It's also environmentally friendly, and it uses high-pressure water instead of harsh chemicals. Before you schedule your high-pressure cleaning, you'll want to turn off electrical components, remove any items that could get wet, and close windows and doors. Then, you're ready to begin cleaning. And don't forget to take a few precautions.

Portable fire extinguishers discharge the extinguishing agent that suppresses the fire by covering the flames with a thick layer of foam. The foam cuts off the supply of oxygen and extinguishes the fire. When there is a lack of oxygen, it stops the chemical reaction and the fire cannot continue to burn. It consists of two containers. The outer container contains water. The central container contains a foam solution and carbon dioxide charge. When we compress the handle of the extinguisher, the agent is discharged from the nozzle. Hose clips, squeeze for action handle and carrying handle are made up of stainless steel. Stainless steel prevents these parts from corrosion, starches, and then help in the maintenance. Portable foam fire extinguishers are reliable. They are suitable for use when they are readily accessible so that they can be used immediately. The foam is basically a blend of per fluorinated and hydrocarbon surfactants. It is an ideal Class B fire. It is best suited when the fire is caused by flammable liquids such as petrol. Portable fire extinguishers require regular checking.
These are some of the points that should be kept in mind before the extinguisher is discharged. Find Check the pressure gauge of the AFFF foam fire extinguisher. The needle of the pressure gauge of the extinguisher should be in the middle of the green area. The breaking pin should be fixed on the valve lever and the lead seal should be tagged on. Hold upright fire extinguisher valve liver by the right hand and from left-hand open discharge pipe PVC clump and squeeze on bottom of ire, not on flames. Press lever of the valve of a fire extinguisher by a split thump and spray foam on burning material by using blanking and smothering method. Attack on fire from wind direction not from the opposite. Don’t use this fire extinguisher on electric or electronic or gas type fire.

Cleaning Agent
Hydrochloric acid is a common mineral acid sometimes used for concrete. Vinegar can also be used to wash onerous surfaces and take away calcium deposits that also helps to take care of our environment micro organism free.
Kaivac's systems are confirmed to be as much as 60 times more effective at cleaning than a mop - in lower than half the time. Belle – I can’t guarantee it, however I suppose it will be good for that due to the steam. And, proper, you’re not alleged to seal the tile when it’s porcelain or ceramic. By the way, you seal natural stone so the dust doen’t get absorbed, however you continue to want to clean it the identical way.
Some glass cleaners also comprise a nice, mild abrasive. Most glass cleaners can be found as sprays or liquid. They are sprayed directly onto windows, mirrors and other glass surfaces or applied on with a gentle fabric and rubbed off utilizing a gentle, lint-free duster. A glass material perfect for the aim and gentle water to which some methylated spirit or vinegar is added which is a reasonable glass cleaner. Light duty onerous floor cleaners aren't intended to handle heavy filth and grease.
Because these products are anticipated to clean with out rinsing and lead to a streak-free shine, they contain no salts. Typical window cleaning gadgets encompass alcohols, both ethanol or isopropanol, and surfactants for dissolving grease. Other parts include small amounts of ammonia as well as dyes and perfumes.
Toilet bowl cleaning often is aimed toward removal of calcium carbonate deposits, that are attacked by acids. Powdered cleaners include Clean Image of Orlando, Inc. acids that come within the form of strong salts, such as sodium hydrogen sulfate.
Tumblr media
At least for porcelain, the filth is on top which makes it easier to wash and protects it from staining. The actual concern is that most individuals don’t realize they need to seal their grout and redo this annually. If you don’t do that you grout will get dirtier and dirtier and exhausting to wash each year.
Liquid bathroom bowl cleaners comprise different acids, sometimes dilute hydrochloric, phosphoric, or formic acids. These convert the calcium carbonate into salts which might be soluble in water or are simply rinsed away. All-purpose cleaners are often concentrated solutions of surfactants and water softeners, which improve the behavior of surfactant in exhausting water. Typical surfactants are alkylbenzenesulfonates, an anionic detergent, and modified fatty alcohols. A typical water softener is sodium triphosphate.
Sulphuric acid is utilized in acidic drain cleaners to unblock clogged pipes by dissolving greases, proteins, and even carbohydrate-containing substances corresponding to toilet tissue. An integrated, complete solution, like Kaivac's OmniFlex Dispense-and-Vac can get the job carried out on every kind of various ground surfaces. The system features a 10 gallon bucket with self-dispensing spigot, a powerful wet/dry vacuum and high-quality squeegee to ensure that any sort of flooring could be clear. Its engineered agility also implies that this solution can carry out nicely in troublesome areas, like stairwells and corners, in order that the complete ground gets clean, not just certain sections. 10 Things That Clog Your Drain and What to Do About It
A clogged drain isn’t just an annoying problem that slows you down to do your chores. It can be a severe plumbing problem with potential health concerns. But what causes clogs drains? Can they be prevented?
Here’s a list of ten things that and some tips of how to prevent having clogged drains.
1.      Hair
Human hair, as well as animal fur can accumulate to the point where it causes slow flow or a total pipe blockage in shower, laundry, bathtub, and bathroom drains. Hair can tangle and combine with other substances such as soap or grease and get attached to the drain.
Losing hair can’t be prevented because it’s natural, but you can take actions to protect your drain as much as possible. You can brush your hair before you take a shower and install a shower drain hair catcher. In this way, you can reduce the amount of hair that goes down the drain.
 2.      Soap Scum
Detergents and soap scum accumulated over time in the laundry, shower, and bathroom drains. This causes the diameter of the pipe to reduce and causes slow flow and backup.
The recommendation to avoid clogs provoked by soap scum is to use soaps that don’t contain phosphates, and which have natural surfactants. This means that you should try to use soap-free washes, which will also help protect your skin.
3.      Toilet Paper
Toilet paper, seriously? Yes, the excessive use of toilet paper combined with sewage going down the drain, can make your toilet overflow. To prevent this simply use toilet paper in moderation. Not only will you be helping your drain, but you’ll also be more ecofriendly. Don’t use more toilet paper than what you need, and definitely don’t flush more than what you need to. If necessary, use small batches of paper over several flushes.
4.      Food Oil, Grease, and Fat
Food oil, grease, and fat can cause severe problems to your draining system, because they solidify in the pipes causing a blockage. To prevent this, wipe up small amounts of oil with a paper towel and throw it on the compost. For large amounts of fats and oils, pour your leftover cooking oils into a melt-proof container like a can or a jar, and throw it on the trash.
5.      Food Waste
Having a garbage disposal doesn’t mean you can put anything down the drain. Food waste can clog your piped because not everything breaks down. Make sure to never throw eggshells, fruit peels, or large chunks of food down the drain. Instead, set up a compost bin for food waste. In that way, you can be green and help your sink drain.
6.      Wipes
Plumbing systems only have the capacity to process water, human waste, and biodegradable toilet paper. Even if the wipes are labeled as “flushable,” they shouldn’t be disposed in the drain because they will not disintegrate. Make sure to throw all the wipes in the trash can, not down your toilet.
7.      Feminine Products and Diapers
Feminine hygiene products and diapers should never be flushed down the toilet. They are not biodegradable, they expand with moisture, and contain cotton which attracts other clogging agents. And beyond the clogging, they can cause more severe damages like leaks or cracks in your drainpipes. So, just make sure to follow the instructions on the package of how to properly dispose them.
8.      Objects Accidentally Flushed
If you have children, you know that small toys and small objects make their way into all kinds of crazy places. Sinks, toilets, and bathtubs are no exception. You can prevent having your drain clogged by placing drain covers on sinks, showers, and bathtubs- they will catch the small objects. But more importantly, teach your children what the toilet is used for, and what it is not. Help them understand that flushing objects, (besides from toilet paper), down the toilet, can lead to serious problems.
9.      Tree Roots
It’s hard to believe it, but the tiniest crack in your pipe will draw thirsty tree roots- and soon they’ll be growing inside your pipe. Tree roots are one of the most common, and most expensive reasons for drain problems.
To avoid tree root problems, make sure to take good care of your pipes and drains, and be mindful of where you plant trees. Be careful to not plan anything that could overlap with pipes.
10.  Mineral buildup
Hard water is full of minerals that buildup in the pipes and reduce the flow. Mineral deposits can lead to backups, so it if you know that there is hard water where you live, make sure to install a water softener in your house. That is the only way to prevent mineral buildup.
What to do if You Have a Clogged Drain
As you can notice, most clogged drains can be prevented by taking small actions. But sometimes no matter how careful you are, you can end up with a clogged drain. When that happens, don’t pour drain cleaners down your drain. They will get rid of the clog, but they’ll weaken your pipes. Instead, make sure to call a professional plumber to clean your drain.
At Professional Plumbers Denver, we have the expertise and the necessary equipment to clean your drainpipes and help you keep them healthy. We are a licensed, bonded, and insured company that offers quality and affordable services to the Denver metropolitan area. Give us a call, you won’t regret working with us.

How to make your own laundry detergent
New Post has been published on https://nexcraft.co/how-to-make-your-own-laundry-detergent/
How to make your own laundry detergent
Warning: you might get sucked into actually liking doing laundry. (Pixabay/)
Everyone wears clothes, everybody’s clothes get dirty, and even though you hate it, everyone needs to do laundry. And unless you’re fortunate enough to have a washer and dryer at home, washing your clothes may be more than annoying—it can also be expensive.
If this is your situation, or you simply enjoy making things from scratch—because why not—you can try making your own laundry detergent. Just as effective with your dirty socks as whatever you buy in stores, it is not only easy to make and incredibly cheap, but can also be hypoallergenic, custom-scented, and environmentally friendly.
It’s important to note that you’ll need a lot of containers for the finished product. DIY laundry detergent is a go-big-or-go-home kind of deal, yielding up to 2 gallons per batch. You said you wanted some savings, right?
What you’ll need
Ingredients
½ cup <a href=”https://amzn.to/2Y3veMX” rel=”nofollow” title=””>borax</a>
1 bar of soap
½ cup <a href=”https://amzn.to/2XVy5s5″ rel=”nofollow” title=””>sodium carbonate</a>
2 gallons of water
1 ounce of essential oils (optional)
Tools
Large bucket (must hold more than 2 gallons)
Preparation time
About 20 minutes (plus 24 hours of resting)
The soap
Most people use the classic Fels-Naptha soap, which is cheap and good with dirt: you can get a 5.5-ounce bar for as low as $0.99.
Fels-Naptha contains coconut acid, palm acid, and tallow acid, all fatty acids that act as emollients and surfactants. These two types of compounds allow water and oil to combine, attracting dirt directly from the fibers of your clothes, pulling it into the water to be rinsed away.
Originally, Fels-Naptha contained benzene, a strong dissolvant that originally gave the soap its fame back when it was introduced in the late 1800s. But benzene is a chemical compound derived from petroleum that is both carcinogenic and—you guessed it—not the best thing to have soaking into the environment. The soap was reformulated, but even though it no longer contains benzene, it still isn’t entirely eco-friendly.
If you want to go with the greenest version of this recipe, you can use the same amount of pure castile soap. This type of soap has been around for centuries and is traditionally made out of vegetable oils (such as olive, palm, or coconut oil), water, and lye, and it is organic and safe. Pure castile soap is a little more expensive than Fels-Naptha, but still cheap enough to make it an excellent choice—you can find it for as little as $1.25 for a 4-ounce bar.
Borax
Borax is a water soluble salt derived from boron and one of the classic ingredients in laundry detergents, known for its powers of disinfection and whitening. It is a white, crystalized powder you can easily find in supermarkets and online for around $5. Borax cuts through grease and helps loosen soil and stains, which is why it is not only used in laundry detergent, but in other kinds of cleaners as well.
Borax is a natural compound, but it is also a cleaning agent you want to handle with caution. You don’t want to inhale or ingest it, so we strongly suggest you cover your nose and mouth while using it. Still, borax is not toxic when used in low concentrations as a cleaning product.
In this case, borax concentration reaches up to only 0.5 grams per load, which is safe for you and your clothes.
Sodium carbonate
Another classic ingredient of household cleaning products, sodium carbonate is also known as washing soda or soda ash. A cousin to baking soda, sodium carbonate works as a bleach substitute and neutralizes odors. The most common branded version of this compound is Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, which you can find for as low as $4.12 for a 55-ounce box.
Washing soda also acts as a water softener, meaning it eliminates elements such as calcium, iron, magnesium, and other minerals that make water “hard.” These elements are not only rough on your clothes, but also on your machine, since they tend to build up inside it. Eighty-five percent of people in the U.S. have hard water, so washing your clothes with detergent that contains compounds such as sodium carbonate means a longer and better life for both your pipes and your washing machine.
Make it smell good (if you want)
You may never want to stop smelling your fresh laundry. But you’ll have to. Because you need to live. (Deposit Photos/)
There are people who buy their laundry detergent not because of its cleaning power or how environmentally friendly it is, but just because “It smells nice.” If this is not you, feel free to skip this step. But if it is, this is where you can get creative. You can add up to 1 ounce of any combination of essential oils to the mix to make it smell exactly as you like.
Just keep in mind that the more essential oils you add, the stronger the scent of your detergent will be. Also, adding essential oils will make it less-suited for delicate skins, so if you’re washing baby clothes or are extremely sensitive, either skip the scent or keep it to the bare minimum.
Stir things up
Grate the soap into a large pot and dissolve it in 6 cups of hot water. Put it on the stove and heat it on medium for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly until the soap completely dissolves. Don’t let it get too hot—you only want to help the blending process.
You’ll need 2 gallons of warm water in total, but you’re not going to pour it all at once. First, fill your bucket with 13 cups of water, then pour in the melted soap and stir.
Put on some gloves and cover your mouth and nose—use a surgical mask or any kind of cotton fabric, such as a bandana—when you add the borax and sodium carbonate. This will thicken the mix, so stir well to make sure everything is blending properly.
Pour the rest of the water into the bucket four cups at a time as you continue to stir. If the mix gets too thick, you can use an immersion blender. Make sure to wash the tool thoroughly afterward so there’s no risk of getting any detergent in your food.
If you want to add scent to your laundry detergent, this is your chance. Add up to 1 ounce of the essential oil(s) of your choosing and stir to blend.
Cover your bucket and let it sit for 24 hours. After that, the mixture will look like a gel with a lumpy consistency, but despair not—the soap will dissolve easily in the washing machine if you give it a little shake before using it.
If you think the detergent is too thick, you can always add more water. Just keep in mind that the less concentrated it is, the less cleaning power it will have. For large loads, just use one cup of detergent.
And finally, since you’re probably not used to having a lot of detergent bottles at home at once, remember to store both the detergent and the remainder of the ingredients away from children and pets.

Oilfield stimulation chemicals Market Forecast and Trends Analysis Research Report By 2025
Oilfield stimulation chemicals include an extensive range of specialty chemicals intended to augment and support the stimulation process. Stimulation treatments are carried out in order to restore or improve the productivity of a well. Improvement in the productivity of the new flow channels results in better recovery of oil and gas from the targeted formation.
Products such as acids and biocides are used to control the bacteria present in the fracturing fluid at the surface. Corrosion inhibitors are frequently required in highly acidic and saline environments in order to protect the metal equipment. Friction pressure is a concern during the pumping process. It can be efficiently controlled by employing friction inhibitors. The viscosity of fluids can be controlled by using gelling agents.
Get Research Report Overview @ https://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/oilfield-stimulation-chemicals-market.html
Oilfield Stimulation Chemicals Market: Drivers and Restraints
Of late, the oil & gas industry has witnessed a decline in terms of production due to the low pricing. Surfactants are used in oilfield chemicals for lubrication. They are also employed as corrosion inhibitors, wetting agents, dispersants, foam control agents, and biocides. Contraction in the oil & gas industry is projected to adversely affect the demand for oilfield stimulation chemicals in the near future. This is anticipated to restrain the oilfield stimulation chemicals market during the forecast period.
Oilfield Stimulation Chemicals Market: Segmentation
Based on product, the oilfield stimulation chemicals market can be segmented into:
Gelling Agents/Viscosifiers
Corrosion Inhibitors
Acids & Biocides
Friction Reducers
Others (Iron Control Agents, Water Control Agents, etc.)
The acid treatment is given to the reservoir in order to stimulate sandstone and carbonate wells.. This acid treatment creates long channels that enter the formation and permit oil & gas to transfer. Hydrochloric Acid is frequently used for acid treatment; however, substitute acids are also used for matrix acidizing. Biocides are employed to regulate the growth of several types of bacteria. Controlling the development of sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) is acute for reducing the formation of hydrogen sulfide. Furthermore, non-oxidizing organic biocides are less prone to corrosion than oxidizing biocides. Corrosion inhibitors are recommended to be used in acid treatments such as acid fracturing, matrix acidizing, and sand control treatments. However, the use of extremely acidic fluids leads to severe corrosion. Acidizing corrosion inhibitors are able to lessen corrosion in low and high chrome steels and carbon alloy steels. Acidizing corrosion inhibitors are stable under high reservoir temperatures and in high acid concentrations. Friction reducers are added in order to reduce pipe friction, which in turn allows higher injection rates.
Based on application, the oilfield stimulation chemicals market can be divided into:
Hydraulic Fracturing
Matrix Acidization
Acid Fracking
Others
Gelling agents/viscosifiers ensure the precise settlement of proppants in hydraulic fracturing. They generate better rheology for matrix stimulations when used in combination with other acids. The hydraulic fracturing segment accounted for major share of the oilfield stimulation chemicals market in 2016.

Could oil nation Norway help save the climate? | Environment| All topics from climate change to conservation | DW
For those of us who thought installing solar panels, planting trees and switching to an electric car would do the trick, this month’s report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was a startling wake-up call.
The world is facing climate catastrophe, and urgent and unprecedented changes are needed, it said. That includes carbon capture and storage (CCS), a technology that in the past has been fraught with problems.
CCS is extremely expensive, and critics have long argued that it is nothing but an excuse for the fossil fuel industry to carry on as normal, to the detriment of the growth of renewable alternatives. Yet in Norway, the technology is gaining traction. Little surprise, given the country’s continued plans to exploit oil.
“The climate challenge is so big that you have to use all the tools that you have in your toolbox,” said Trude Sundset, CEO of Gassnova, the Norwegian state company responsible for finding CCS solutions for the future.
While renewable energy production is growing quickly, many industries like cement and steel emit vast amounts of CO2 in their production processes. This is where carbon capture technology is the only solution — apart from shutting down production altogether, argued Sundset.
“You can put as many solar panels on all the cement factories as you want, but you will still have very high CO2 emissions from this industry,” she said. “And the only solution that we know of today is to capture the CO2 and store it underground.”

First project on the horizon
With Norwegian government support, Gassnova is now entering the final stages of a pilot project that could see the first full-scale carbon capture plants installed at a cement factory and a waste incinerating facility. Each would capture 400,000 tons of CO2 annually — that’s equivalent to the emissions from 171,000 cars.
“The process of making cement in itself emits a lot of CO2, and the total cement production in the world represents 5 to 7 percent of the total CO2 emissions every year,” said Per Brevik, director of sustainability and alternative fuels at Heidelberg Cement Northern Europe, part of Gassnova’s pilot project.

The plant, a two-hour drive south of the Norwegian capital Oslo, has already tested various carbon capture methods and hopes the full-scale solution will be up and running by 2024.
“We will take out the CO2 from the flue gas, condition it and store it on the bottom of the North Sea,” explained Brevik.
Oslo’s Klemetsrud waste incinerator plant is one of two pilot projects for full-scale carbon capture and storage technology
Financial incentive: Higher emissions taxes?
The idea of removing CO2 from the air to store it in porous rock under the seafloor is not a new one. Norway’s state energy company, Equinor, has run a CCS plant on one of its natural gas platforms in the North Sea since 1996, proving the technology works.
That particular project makes economic sense, thanks to Norway’s €52 ($60) per ton CO2 emissions tax on offshore oil and gas installations. Equinor would have had to fork out €105,000 a day to release the CO2 into the atmosphere, making CCS a cheaper alternative.
“The problem is, there is no business model for this [onshore],” said Sverre Overa, a project director at Equinor. The current European CO2 tax is less than €20 euro per ton — although, that price is set to increase in 2019.
“The quota prices that exist are not sufficient today to cover the cost both of capturing and storing the CO2,” said Overa. “Over time we believe that gap will be closing. Deploying more and more of these facilities will bring the cost curve down, like it has for renewables.”

Could oil and gas know-how save the day?
Perhaps somewhat paradoxically, Norway’s experience with offshore oil and gas exploration could start benefiting the environment. Gassnova is now using this technical know-how to prepare a CO2 storage infrastructure that could be implemented across Europe.

Captured CO2 will be liquefied and transported on ships to a facility on Norway’s western coast. From there, it can be piped out to the North Sea and pumped some 3,000 meters (about 10,000 feet) down into porous rock formations.
“If we succeed in setting up our own infrastructure, industries in the UK, Germany and elsewhere can see that if they capture their emissions from their industry they can actually send it somewhere and somebody will make sure it is safely stored,” said Gassnova’s Sundset.
Industry insiders have said there is already interest in the Norwegian CCS model from companies elsewhere in Europe.
“Norway is very much one of the front-runners on CCS in Europe, it’s really shown that CCS can be deployed as a technology to help reduce CO2 emissions on an industrial scale,” said Luke Warren of the Zero Emission Platform, an interest organization for the CCS industry and research groups, which also advises the European Commission on the technology.
“The next phase of Norway’s program, which is developing the infrastructure to enable capture from multiple industrial sources, is really exciting. And I think if this project is realized, there will be opportunities for other sources within Europe to access the infrastructure there,” he said.
Dependent on government support
Previous Norwegian governments have shelved large-scale CCS projects, but the current administration has so far provided the necessary funds for the pilot projects.

In its latest budget proposal in October, the government set aside a further €71 million for the development of CCS technology. It has promised a final decision on whether to go ahead with the two full-scale carbon capture plants and the infrastructure for CO2 storage under the North Sea by 2021.
The total cost has been estimated to be €1.6 billion. Energy companies Equinor, Shell and Total are already involved in the development of Norway’s CCS project, carrying some of the costs alongside the Norwegian state. But it remains to be seen who will foot the majority of the final bill.

Cleaning products
Containers for cleaning products are made with oil-based plastics. They are fairly stable, light and cheap. Their contents are also by and large oil based. Surfactants are detergent substances that remove grease and water-based stains and are poisonous for aquatic organisms. People with allergies can break out in rashes and acne from them, too.

‘C’ is for citrus — and clean
Lemons were long used as cleaning agents before the industrial cleaning revolution. Citric acid has similar scrubbing abilities as vinegar and sodium bicarbonate — without the dangerous side affects. Citrus cleans grills and combats germs on cutting boards. The organic solutions are plentiful, biodegradable, affordable and can come free of packaging.

(Literally) tons of plastic
About 380 million tons of plastics are produced every year worldwide, but only 9 percent of that is recycled, according to a University of California study. The rest is burned, dumped or sent to a landfill. Even recycled material gets quickly trashed again. Researchers estimate that 34 billion tons of plastic will have been produced by 2050.

Straws going au naturel
The flood of plastic won’t stop if people don’t change their ways. That’s what the European Commission has concluded, and it wants to ban sales of plastic cutlery and straws. These are items that are quickly produced, used and thrown away, only to then burden the planet for centuries to come. One major packaging producer, Tetra Pak, has since announced it will change over to making paper straws.

Image cleanup
Germany is Europe’s top producer of plastic waste, according to the Federal Environment Agency. Single-family homes purchase items in smaller and individually wrapped quantities. Plastic and styrofoam packaging is generated by online shopping and used for coffee and food on the go. The city of Hanover has taken the lead by introducing a 2-euro ($2.32) deposit scheme for reusable cups.

Desperate fight against plastic buildup
India has a major problem with plastic waste. New Delhi, the capital, has banned single-use plastic, but it is just a drop in the bucket. About 1.5 million Indians earn a living collecting plastic; there is no functioning disposal system. Trash is often burned, which releases poisonous fumes.

Like the good ol’ days
Containers can be more ecologically friendly, too. Before the era of plastic, dairy products came in glass. Packaging for drinks can be made out of renewable materials like wood from sustainable sources. Consumer choices can be decisive in the potential reduction of materials based on fossil fuels.

Oily discs
Every CD and DVD contains about 30 grams of crude oil, and 40 billion discs are produced every year around the world, each one made of polycarbonate, aluminum and lacquer. Many of these get thrown away. Germany’s recycling rate is about 5 percent, according to the Federal Environment Agency, though the waste gets turned into eyeglass frames, computer monitor housings and vehicle bumpers.

Perched on high with liquid wood
Who says high-end consumers don’t care about their ecological footprint? Gucci customers take pumps made from bioplastics in stride. Former researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute took lignin, plant fibers and wax and liquefied the compounds together. Injecting the mixture into molds allows the malleable material to be turned into other products.

Fan and eco-friendly?
This soccer top is made from recycled plastic waste — polyester and polyamide, which are derived from increasingly scarce oil resources. It takes 28 plastic bottles to make one jersey, but that can also be made from natural fibers like cotton, wool, linen, hemp and silk.

Brush well
It’s never too early to learn proper oral hygiene — not just how to brush, but also which brush to use. Common toothbrushes are made of polyamide, a product based on mineral oil. Stabilizers, softening agents and dye are in the mix, too.

Natural oral hygiene
Back to basics: Toothbrushes can be made of beech wood with pigs’ bristles. Tooth powder from sodium bicarbonate, coconut oil, charcoal, and a mix of turmeric, mint, clove, sage, ginger and healing clay can be just as effective as traditional toothpaste, making use of microorganisms, chalk and fennel oil. Yet much of the packaging is still plastic. Some toothpastes contain small, plastic beads.

A clean night’s sleep
In the market for a new mattress? Sleeping habits, orthopedic conditions, weight, allergies and material preference (spring, latex, natural rubber or foam) all play a role. Most mattresses are made from oil-based products. Eco-mattresses contain bioplastics made from sunflower oil and castor oil.

The natural toilet
Interior designers say that the bathroom is the new living room. Many people are after something special: Toilet covers that lower automatically to reduce noise, automatic toilet seat cleaning, integrated music systems. Most bathroom items contain plastic. The eco-toilet is instead made of wood. No plastic bin required.

Oil-free cars: just a fantasy?
Biodiesel from canola oil only works with old, smelly diesel motors. Biogas only works as a small component in fuel. The auto industry is looking for energy alternatives to oil, but we are still a ways off from going completely without black gold. Even batteries need oil in their production. One bright spot: hydrogen. Regardless, the car itself contains a lot of crude oil.
