how to make your own particle accelerator
EDIT: I've figured out that this works regardless of the angle you point at, you just have to shoot at the front of the idol (obviously).
( @nokti-jpeg Since you asked for it, here you go! )

There is a twitch channel by a German particle accelerator project called "wave_hamburg", that is streaming the Taylor Swift Eras Tour in Hamburg via the vibrations their instruments pick up from cheering Swifties in the stadium 2km away. 😃😃😃
This might be the nerdiest way to watch the Eras Tour and I'm in love 😂🥰
Basically, at this institute called DESY, they are running an extremely high energy and high precision X-ray gun at a project called Petra. They normally use this to identify the molecular structure of stuff. (They were one of the first groups who figured out the structure of the SARS-CoV-2 virus 😃). And because they are dealing with this super high precision thing, they actually have to account for stuff like scientists walking around in the building or cars driving by, so they have this extremely sensitive network of instruments that is just there to pick up the tiniest vibrations. And that's sensitive enough, to pick up on the vibrations of Swifties cheering in the stadium 2 kilometres away. 😃

The Accelerator Building has been home to feats of nuclear science since its construction nearly 80 years ago, and this year it will make way for a new engineering and science facility. Revisit the machines it was built to house.

any time i hear about some advancement or discovery in physics, whether it's astronomical or subatomic, im struck by this sense that, despite all our technological progress, our methods for figuring that stuff out has not changed much in the past two or three million years: "let's hit these two rocks together, i wanna see what happens"

Construction of the Accelerator Building’s $2.2 million synchrocyclotron was completed in 1951. A kind of cyclotron, this “atom smasher” uses a magnetic field to accelerate subatomic particles to high energies. Over 2,000 tons of steel were used for the particle accelerator’s magnet alone.
