Montserrat Barta i Prats (1906 o 1907-1988 ) pintora, dibujante e ilustradora española.

Nació en Barcelona.

Conocida por sus retratos de bailarinas y por los temas infantiles. 

Se formó en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Barcelona y, aún muy joven, participó, con sus hermanos Mercè y Josep, en la Exposición de Arte de Barcelona que organizaba la Junta Municipal de Exposiciones en el Palau de Bellas Artes.

No se tienen más informaciones hasta el otoño de 1938, cuando tomó parte en la exposición de dibujo y grabado que se hizo en el Casal de Cultura de Barcelona.

En los años treinta se relacionaba con los círculos revolucionarios de Barcelona, donde conoció al pintor anarquista madrileño Gumersindo Sainz Morales de Castilla, con quien se casó.

En 1939 se exiliaron a Francia y un año más tarde regresaron a Barcelona.

Durante la posguerra, volvió a exponer en su ciudad natal. En 1942 lo hacía individualmente (parece que por primera vez) en las Galerías Costa y en una exposición colectiva en la Galería Atenea.

El año siguiente mostró su obra en las Galerías Augusta de la avenida Diagonal, que sería su sala de cabecera, ya finales de año expuso estampas de Navidad en la Sala Rovira.

En diciembre de 1944 participó en el Gran certamen artístico de pintura y escultura que se hizo en las Galerías Layetanas y en noviembre de 1948 exponía en la Sala Argos.

En los años cincuenta expuso sobre todo en las Galerías Augusta.

En 1957 expuso nuevamente en dos ocasiones: en primavera lo hizo individualmente, y en octubre lo hizo conjuntamente con su marido. Al año siguiente siguió mostrando sus escenas de ballet, así como retratos y otros temas. En mayo y junio de 1959 exhibió de nuevo bailarinas, solas y en grupo, así como temas religiosos y retratos, entre otros, en aceite, acuarela y pastel. En agosto de aquel mismo año, y otra vez con su marido, expuso al palacio Maricel de Sitges.

1960 fue muy prolífico para Montserrat. En marzo hizo su tradicional exposición individual en las Galerías Augusta y poco después participó en la exposición inaugural de la sala Mirador, en la que se hizo un homenaje a Manolo Hugué. Ese mismo año, en septiembre, tomó parte en la segunda edición del Festival Internacional de los Artistas que se hacía en el Club de Mar Sitges.

En octubre expuso de nuevo en las Galerías Augusta temas religiosos, bailarinas y escenas de circo, junto con su marido.

En los años sesenta siguió exponiendo sus bailarinas, gitanas, maternidades, retratos femeninos e infantiles y escenas religiosas en las salas barcelonesas, especialmente en las Galerías Españolas en la primavera de 1962, a finales de 1963, principios de 1965 y la primavera de 1966.

En octubre de 1968 y 1969 expuso de nuevo a las Galerías Augusta, que en ese momento tenían su sede en el paseo de Gràcia. Los años 1972, 1973 y 1975 siguió mostrando su obra en esta sala.

Fuera de Barcelona, expuso en Valencia (en la Sala Ribalta y en las Galerías San Vicente), Donostia, Bilbao y Madrid, entre otros. En 1972, en el marco del 125 aniversario de la fundación del Gran Teatro del Liceo, la entidad le concedió la medalla de plata por sus méritos artísticos sobre temas de ballet.

También se dedicó a la ilustración, especialmente para cuentos infantiles.

Durante años también fue la responsable del grafismo de etiquetas y carteles de la fábrica de productos de perfumería y jabones Blancafort, también conocida con la marca Blavi, de La Garriga. Igualmente, dibujó figurines para la revista El hogar y la moda (1946) y postales para diferentes editoriales de Barcelona.

Montserrat Barta murió en Barcelona.

Este fin de semana hemos estado grabando 🎥 en #Sitges la próxima canción que vamos a publicar con #SaxOnAra. En esta ocasión hemos grabado en saxofón un conocido tema de una cantante Cubana-Estadounidense 🇨🇺🇺🇸 y que dará mucho de que hablar este verano. 🏖️ A los que conocéis la ciudad de la foto 📸 os será familiar la escalera que, limitando con el Mediterráneo, sube hasta la ⛪ Iglesia de San Bartolomé y Santa Tecla. Tras la iglesia, en la zona histórica del pueblo, se esconde el Palau Maricel, otra popular ubicación en fiestas y bodas 👰 del territorio. También cerca, en la otra parte del pueblo junto a la Playa de San Sebastián, se encuentra la Ermita de Sant Sebastià, otro rincón mágico de Sitges. John William Bailly is a painter, printmaker and traveler whose work explores issues of origin, history, cultural and geographical identity. Most of the paintings on view here were first exhibited at The Charles Deering Estate where the artist conceived the work through academic and field research as an Artist-in-Residence. Located along the edge of Biscayne Bay in Miami-Dade, the Deering Estate is an environmental, archaeological and historic preserve that broadened the artist’s perception of Miami’s history. His travels and research throughout Europe and specifically at Palau Maricel in Sitges in Catalonia, Spain further led Bailly to examine our transatlantic, cultural and biological relationships between Europe and the Americas.

10,000 Years of Miami is the artist’s reflection on his journey of self-discovery, and his rediscovery of Miami’s rich and diverse history. It is our hope that this exhibition challenges the notion of what the popular perception of Miami is and its reality; that it engages us all in self-reflection and brings awareness of our interconnectedness.

The Maricel Palace is one of the most emblematic buildings in Sitges. Forming part of Maricel’s artistic ensemble, also receives the name of Maricel de Terra as a differentiation from the museum also known as Maricel de Mar.

The Gold Room, the Blue Room, the Chapel Room, the Ship’s Room, Terraces or the Cloister, enjoying a splendid view over the Mediterranean, are the main areas that make up the Palace. With a markedly “Noucentista” style, the different rooms are distinguished by a unique decor stressing its character.

The Palau currently has a triple function: firstly, as a place that holds very important institutional and cultural events of the utmost importance in the civic and cultural life of Sitges, such as concerts, lectures or presentations. Secondly, some of the areas host events of organizations and companies that rent its use, as well as civil marriages. And finally, rooms, terrace and cloisters are accessible by Guided Tours that Museums of Sitges organize every Sunday. During summer months, the program of visits extends to include castanet concerts and dinners under a full moon on their magnificent terraces.

The majestic Gold Room is the space used by Museums of Sitges to organize different academic sessions, such as the seminar about the Art Market, Collections and Museums, the Day of Archaeology of Sitges and the International Symposium on Noucentisme. This same area has witnessed a long list of significant social and cultural events, such as the Meeting of Catalan and Spanish Intellectuals promoted by the Catalan Government in 1981 and various courses of the University Menéndez Pelayo, among many others.
