So @iihappydaysii and I set out to write a cute little short fic based on the song “Love Potion No. 9″ for the Trick-or-Twink fic event. What we ended up writing was a nearly 11k 1960s AU enemies to lovers buddy cop romcom with plot and attempted necromancy.
Incidentally, this story fills my @outlanderbingo2020 square: Wildly inappropriate time to have sex.
Title: Love Potion No. 9 Pairing: Jamie Fraser/John Grey with a scoop of Fergus (Murray in this)/Tom Byrd on the side Rating: E (sexy times and mild gore, please see complete tags on AO3) Summary: When young queer boys begin to go missing under spooky circumstances, skeptical Detective John Grey is forced to team up with Jamie Fraser, a detective known for his use of unusual and paranormal methods to solve cases. Excerpt:
Lost in thought, Grey took a step forward, kicking his boot through the rocks. A glimmer caught his eye and he bent down to get a closer look. An amber glass vial with a cork stopper attached to a gold chain. He picked it up and let it dangle from his fingers. The vial was stamped with the number “9.”
“Find something?” Fraser asked, coming to his side. He squinted down at the little bottle. Something passed over his features, too fast for Grey to identify before it was gone. “Is there anything in it?”
Grey tilted the vial, examining it more closely and noticed that there was something in it and, in fact, it looked to be full. He popped the top off and carefully smelled it. He hissed as the scent burned his nose. “Smells like turpentine and God knows what else.”

Another lovingly executed take on Lord John/Tom Byrd. Check it out!!
snake under the bed
Sooo, it seems like I’m a little bit distracted by Lord John and his sweet cupcake of a valet.
Fandom: Lord John Series - Diana Gabaldon, Outlander & Related Fandoms
Rating: Explicit Relationships: Tom Byrd/Lord John Grey Characters: Tom Byrd, Lord John Grey, The Small Yellow Snake Additional Tags: Mutual Pining, jealous!Tom, Anal Sex, Oral Sex, Rimming, Porn with Feelings, A Plague of Zombies spoilers, Slightly - Freeform, a snake - Freeform, and a cockroach Summary:
“You think I’ve brought you all the way to Jamaica, only to dismiss you in a foreign country, Tom?” John asked, flabbergasted. “I should be offended that you take me for such a cruel man!”
Takes place in the timeline of ‘A Plague of Zombies’.
There is one thing Tom Byrd is more afraid of than spiders: cockroaches. And now, arriving at Jamaica he not only has to put up with the heat and the wildlife, but his lord starts making eyes at that Rodrigo as well. That is the last straw.
Meanwhile, Lord John tries not to show how much being locked together for seven weeks on a ship with his valet affected him. But maybe, his feelings are not unreciprocated.
Written for the @outlanderbingo2020, for the square 'Mutual Pining’.

And then favourite one shots featuring Jamie/John?
Hi @geekinthefuschiahair, thank you for the ask! I realize this has been sitting in the inbox for an obscenely long time and for that I apologize. Jamie/John is the most popular Lord John ship on AO3, so a masterlist for this is a bit broad.
However, I have put my personal favorites below, and I invite my fellow curators and our followers to reblog with their favorites too.
Title: i may break to pieces Author: iihappydaysii Rated: E Word Count: 1105 Summary: while john is visiting fraser's ridge before his return to england, jamie comes to john's room at night. Why I Love It: This wee ficlet is just so incredibly moving. I was not prepared for how hard I cried. And I woke up the next morning thinking about it, read it again, cried again. It’s short but so very impactful!
Title: summer solstice Author: iihappydaysii Rated: E Word Count: 3454 Summary: Jamie runs afoul of a witch who curses him. If he doesn’t have sex with a man, he’ll die. Fortunately he knows someone who just might be willing to help him with that. Why I Love It: I’ve never read such a well done fuck or die! Fuck or Die (or its cousin sex pollen) always toe the line of dub-con/non-con (or are straight-up rapey) but Ash handled that like an absolute master. It’s insanely HAWT but also incredibly sweet.
Title: you can fix my fence Author: Nara_stories Rated: T Word Count: 4699 Summary: The Earl finds out that Willie is not his son and Jamie turns to desperate solutions. Namely, the witch that supposedly lives just outside the edge of town.Who turns out to be completely different than expected.Written for the Outlander Bingo 2020 for the square 'One or both is a witch'. Why I Love It: Witch!John. You read that right. The imagery is just glorious and there’s a nifty little twist in there, and John in his sexiest “Left-ten-ant Leonard” mode.
So now I open it up to my fellow curators and our dear followers: Please reblog with your favorite Jamie/John stories under 10k. Links are always helpful if you can!

Hey all, Dani here.
It’s the first of June and I’m already running behind on my blog. I got this post all prepped up yesterday, and just needed to add in my runners up and my winner/pick for the month. Instead I got distracted by watching anime, and when I woke up this morning I realized that I had never finished and scheduled this post. Whoops.
Anyway, it is the first Monday of the Month and that means it is once again time for a Calendar Girls post.
Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was started by Flavia and Melanie, but is now being hosted by Katie and Adrienne. They are all wonderful ladies, and you should check out their lovely blogs. Okay, so Katie is still on a brief hiatus for a few months, so for right now Adrienne and myself are all hosting Calendar Girls together.
So if you link back to Adrienne, and me, we can keep track of all the book picks and posts each month. Thanks, everyone!
First, more about the Calendar Girls. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.
Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and both Katie and Adrienne will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!
Oh, and you don’t have to identify as female to join the Calendar Girls. We welcome readers of all types. So if this sounds like fun for you, join us in all of the fun bookish conversations.
Finally, Annie Woods, the first participant in the Calendar Girls Springtime Whirl to achieve a bingo, has selected our June theme. You can find all of Annie’s social media details at these links: Instagram, Goodreads, Twitter, Website
The June theme is…
Drive-In Movie Day
Favorite Book Adaptation
I’m really excited about this one.
Because the thing is, this is about your favorite adaptation, not necessarily the best or the most faithful…for the record, my opinion is that the best adaptation is for The Perks of Being a Wallflower because the author wrote the screenplay and directed the film. It does not get much more faithful than that, and I will excuse any and all changes because the author himself made those extremely minor changes.
Anyway, here’s where I’m torn for this prompt: which adaption form do I choose? Because there are many ways to adapt a work. Do I go with a film version, a TV version, a stage production? That makes it so much more difficult to narrow down the possibilities.
And I guess I should point out that I’m going with my favorite adaptations in an entertainment factor, not in faithfulness to the source material. Because there are always changes, and I’ve already announced the best/most faithful adaptation. So my book/adaptation pick is going to be one where I found both the book and the adaptation to be incredibly enjoyable, personally. Feel free to disagree with me down in the comments, but let’s keep from being rude about it. We can all like different things and that’s totally fine. (And you know, I say this just because; I haven’t really had any rudeness in my comments. Thanks for being awesome everybody.)
#gallery-0-13 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-13 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-13 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-13 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
TV: Shadowhunters, The Expanse, Outlander, Game of Thrones (the early seasons), Dresden Files, The Magicians, Vampire Diaries, Secret Circle, The Witcher, Legend of the Seeker
Movies: Timeline, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harry Potter, Ready Player One, Vampire Academy, Divergent, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games trilogy/quartet
Anything Jane Austen/Charlotte Bronte (TV mini series/movie)
—
Okay, so obviously I haven’t included Marvel or DC movie or TV on here, though I do also really enjoy those.
Oh, and I didn’t include any of the manga/anime either. Wow, this just made my list kind of ridiculous. Umm…I think I’ll do another post at some point about manga and anime adaptations that I love.
And I know there’s some I’ve probably missed here.
And there’s also some that I haven’t read/watched yet.
But you guys, this is actually a harder decision than I thought it was going to be. Oh man. Okay, okay, I just need to say that I’m done adding in contenders, and I’ll pick from what I have above. But if you want me to go even deeper into movie adaptations, TV adaptations, and more, then let me know, and I’ll set up a series of posts in the future.
All right, so rather than sit here agonizing for too long, I’m going to choose one TV adaptation and one movie adaptation. I hope that’s okay with all of you. Let’s do this.
The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski AND Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
There, I picked two. Wow, that was not an easy choice. Okay, so RPO is not really a faithful adaptation at all, but the movie has the same geeky 80s pop culture heart as the book, which is great. And they are both excellent on their own. Just don’t try and compare them because then the movie will disappoint you. Regardless I love them both, and I understand that licensing issues made it difficult to faithfully adapt the book into a movie. And then there’s Geralt of Rivia. Honestly they did a pretty decent job adapting the book into a show, and I’ve watched the show twice now because the effects and the action are excellent. I’m really looking forward to season 2.
Oh, and if you really want to start planning ahead, the July Calendar Girls theme was also already announced, so you can check out that post here. The July posts will be up on Monday, July 6th, so we’ll see you then.
Other Calendar Girls posts to check out:
Adrienne @ Darque Dreamer Reads – Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy
Deanna @ Deanna Writes About – Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King
Ashley @ Inside My Minds – The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
More coming soon

New Crack Fic? Sure...
I don’t know what to tell y’all about this one. So I’m just not going to preface this...
This story fills my @outlanderbingo2020 square Courting/Courtship Rituals (card below the cut)
Title: Tokens of My Affection Rated: T (there’s some language) Pairing: Gen? Kinda? The relationships aren’t really the focus, though Jamie/Claire and Jamie/John (unrequited) are both there. Notes: THIS IS CRACK Summary: A witch has turned Lord John Grey into a cat and Jamie Fraser has adopted him. Now Grey must find a way to communicate with his friend. Excerpt:
As if nonconsensual transfiguration into an adorable housecat wasn’t bad enough, Jamie had presented him as a gift to Claire and named him Adso. Grey had protested mightily, but then she had cuddled him and proclaimed him sweet and let him sleep on her pillow. Well. At least it was a comfortable pillow, even if he had to share it with Jamie’s wife. A loud rumble startled Grey and he looked up, through the dark. He could go curl up next to Jamie. If he purred, perhaps rubbed his face against the huge man’s cheek, he might let Grey cuddle up under his chin.
Pull yourself together, man, Grey told himself firmly. Sleep on the bloody pillow and in the morning you can figure out a way to communicate with Jamie and enlist his help.

Thanks to @iihappydaysii for the prompt!

Title: Terribly Reckless and Incredibly Stupid Fandom: Outlander Pairing: Jamie Fraser/Lord John Grey/Claire Fraser (basically; it’s shippy, no smut) Rated: T (though Willie’s potty mouth probably should have bumped that up to an M, but here we are) Summary: When Lord John Grey is arrested for a crime he didn't commit, Jamie and Willie must find a way to rescue him before he's executed.

My Outlander Bingo 2020 Master Post
Since I haven’t put it all together in quite some time, here’s a list of the fics I’ve written for the @outlanderbingo2020 (please always check the tags on AO3):
Square: Touch-Starved Title: The Anniversary (Part 1 of the Tartan Terror Chronicles) Rated: M Pairing: Gen, but Jamie Fraser & Dean Winchester if you squint Summary: It has been ten years since Jamie's beloved wife Claire was killed by literal monsters. Ten years since he started down this path, ridding the world of vile darkness, once abomination at time. Ten years since, and Jamie's raid of a vampire nest gets interrupted by two brothers, hunters themselves.
Square: Inopportune boners and what to do about them Title: Trying Another Tactic Rated: E Pairing: Jamie Grey/Lord John Grey Summary: The genesis of the argument wasn't important. Yet here Grey was, once again engaged in a shouting match with Jamie Frigging Fraser. Until they realized why they were fighting, and it had nothing at all to do with the words that were said. Time to try a new tactic.
Square: Bed sharing Title: Sticky Fingers, Sticky Sheets (collab with @levisqueaks) Rated: E Pairing: Lord John Grey/Tom Byrd Summary: It had been years of wanting. Carefully contained desire set loose at last by the right circumstances, a moderate supply of good brandy, and a healthy dose of thrilling recklessness.
Square: After an injury/while hurt Title: Chapter Five (collab with @iihappydaysii) Rated: E Pairing: Jamie Fraser/Lord John Grey Summary: After a remarkably stupid mishap leaves Jamie blinded and incapacitated, Lord John reads to him to pass the time. Unfortunately, their choices of reading material are somewhat limited.
Square: Hand-feeding Title: Please, Master Me Rated: E Pairing: Lord John Grey/Stephan von Namtzen Summary: Lord John Grey and Stephan von Namtzen have an arrangement. Sometimes, when Grey has exhausted himself in the execution of his many duties, von Namtzen offers him freedom from worry for a time, relieving Grey of his burdens. Caring for him in their own particular way.
Square: Creative interpretations of Doggy Style ***NEW*** Title: Howl at the Moon (collab with @levisqueaks) Rated: E Pairing: Roger Mackenzie/Ian Fraser Murray Summary: While surveying his newly-granted land, Roger reveals to Ian a frightening secret about his journey back from the Mohawk years ago. This is all porn, y'all, also an AU Scene for 05.08.

Screw Censorship
Lord John Grey/Brian Randall Rated T Words: 1182 Summary: If you asked John, the entire incident was blown completely out of proportion. John had nothing to do with the protestors, or the thrown shoe. He hadn’t meant to collide into the protestors’ line, he had been shoved by the police. And he certainly had not done anything to warrant being thrown in jail. Notes: For the illustrious and wonderful @iihappydaysii. Happy extremely belated birthday cause I, and my muse, suck. For the “In Jail Because of a Barfight, Now we can’t keep our hands off each other” Square for the @outlanderbingo2020 challenge. Read it on AO3

2020 Creator Wrap: Favourite Works
I’ve been tagged by @kholran weeks ago. Thanks for the tag, and I’m terribly sorry for putting it off so long.
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (or so) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works.
For all The Shit that happened in 2020 from a fanfic-writing perspective this has been an amazing year for me. I’ve added 19 (!) works to my AO3 page, which I’m actually pretty proud of. At this point, I want to give a HUGE thanks and shout-out to @outlanderbingo and the two wonderful admins @levisqueaks and @mistresspandorawritesthings. You’ve made my year! <3 Thank you!
I’m actually struggling to articulate how much this means to me. Most of you are aware that English is not my first language (not even the second in terms of order lol). The 3 works from 2017 and 2018 on my AO3 all have been translations - as in I’ve written them first in my native language, posted it on my old LJ blog, and then later translated them and published them on AO3.
I found the process very slow and tedious (even though I have not regretted it - A bed and a penny had gotten so much love over these two years, it makes me tear up). When I found the Outlander Bingo Challenge I knew I would struggle to keep up and get even 5 stories out if I wrote them in two languages. Besides, OL was never big in the fanfic-writing community I was part of in my native language (that was part of the reason why I stopped writing in this fandom, and also probably why I still have so much to discuss and write about ^^” I never had people to talk about these characters in-depth okay??? :P)
1. So, as number one I will name whatever this may be simply because this was the first ever completed piece of prose I’ve written fully in English (not translated from my own writing). Again, I don’t think I can fully articulate how much this means to me.
I’m not living in my country of origin anymore and when we made the move (before shit hit the fan in March thank goodness) it was very much with a permanent intention. I wasn’t happy in that place, I’ve found a lot of things toxic in general and even in the writing community. This kind of made me confront the idea that I may never publish my writing again even online, because even though I could with the marvels of the internet, I simply needed a relatively clean cut and lots of time away. I’m just not in the headspace where I can keep engaging with that community.
All this to say, that I’ve made my peace with this prospect and would have been kind of fine writing only for myself. But then you all came along and inspired me to try... and the knowledge that I get to do this, that even though my grammar is crap and I mix up words and probably write bs half the time, I have a voice, that my writing voice translates into English, that’s pretty huge for me. That knowledge is the biggest gift you could have given me. Okay, back to the list, Nara, don’t make yourself cry...
2. rum, spices and river water - oh Lord John and wee Byrd... they have been my new-found love in 2020. I’m not nearly done with writing about them :P I like this one because it’s just tooth-rotting fluff in Jamaica, and they deserve to be happy.
3. two years without, one with (you) - this broke me in the best way possible. John/Percy fix-it during BotB. I didn’t even like Percy that much but then I started listening to the audiobooks and Jeff Woodman narrated him in such a way that I suddenly saw the potential.
4. wasting wine - come on, I can’t make a list without having something exceptionally explicit on it :P You could say this is the best of both worlds a John/Percy/Tom threesome. This was when I still thought I wouldn’t write anything else with Percy btw.
Okay, last one and I’m going to be terribly selfish, but this is my list, deal with it :P
5. his brother’s coat - I feel like the holiday blues pushed me off the deep end, but this was just such fun to write. After a brief dilemma of can I? and am I allowed to? I’ve written this little piece of Alex/Jack Randall fic, and I’m not going to lie, I’ve enjoyed every second of meticulously polishing the words on this terrible little idea :P As much as I love fluff and fix-it, I do want to get better at writing some darker and/or bittersweet flavours. Just because those are the stories that stay with me the longest, and I genuinely like reading those.
That’s my wrap-up for the year. Thank you all so much for your support, for your kindness, for the fun we shared this year <3
I have lost track of who has done this, so consider yourself tagged if you haven’t!
