The Outerworlds - Unreliable sketch... the ship is called Unreliable, not that my sketch is unreliable. Or... errr... I mean.

After DX run I did a quick Outerworlds Spacers Choice playtrough (it is a short game and for me 45h is a very short game). I have to admit I never realized that Bethesda's Starfield is a pretty big plagiarism based on this game. I also found that least one person, who made Outerworlds had liked Hellraiser (or 1980s horror films in general), why ? Well HR fans should figure those references out by playing the game. There were a few - too many to be just a mere coincidence. If you ever ponder which game to buy Starfield or Outerworlds and while OW is an indie game it is much-much-much-much stronger game overall. And it actually has a main quest. Starfield doesn't even have one really. Starfield doesn't have much anything. Hey, do not worry (or do not cheer, depends which fandom lead you to my blog), I am still very much into cenobites, just writing is slow even when i do like 1000+ words per day. Ever since January.

The Outer Worlds: Vicar Max and Parvati /sketch

My 2 favorite and go-to followers. Vicar is quite handy with flame thrower and she knows how to use a shock canon, so that player can just run after the two and do the looting. I wanted to do a full illustration with them fighting marauders, but unfortunately I have no time and all my currently quite little spare doodling time goes to my ... other ... endeavors with raising hell and all.

ows: La sesta personale di Ben Sledsens alla Tim Van Laere Gallery di Anversa

Tra pesci e stelle

L’ultima mostra di Ben Sledsens, intitolata Between Fish and Stars, si è svolta alla Tim Van Laere Gallery di Anversa dal 29 agosto al 5 ottobre 2024. Questo progetto rappresenta la sesta collaborazione di Sledsens con la galleria e segna una svolta nell’opera dell’artista, che introduce per la prima volta una serie di disegni a carboncino su carta accanto ai suoi noti dipinti. Il titolo dell’esposizione, che si traduce in “Tra i pesci e le stelle”, riflette il vasto spettro di ispirazioni da cui Sledsens attinge, catturando sia la bellezza della natura che quella di momenti quotidiani apparentemente semplici, come una composizione floreale in un salotto.

In Between Fish and Stars, Sledsens esplora una varietà di temi e tecniche. Nei dipinti, l’artista adotta un linguaggio visivo influenzato da maestri come Henri Rousseau e Claude Monet, evidenziando l’uso espressivo del colore e della luce. Tuttavia, il suo approccio non è puramente realistico; piuttosto, mira a distillare l’essenza dei soggetti, a metà strada tra figurazione e astrazione, creando un dialogo sincero tra linee, composizioni e tonalità. Con i disegni a carboncino, invece, Sledsens abbandona il colore per concentrarsi sul gioco di forme e linee, sfruttando la libertà e fluidità offerte da questa tecnica.

Sledsens afferma di ispirarsi a generazioni di artisti precedenti, come Pieter Bruegel e Mark Rothko, combinando elementi di diversi periodi artistici per cercare la bellezza e l’utopico nel quotidiano. L’obiettivo della mostra è invitare i visitatori a riscoprire l’armonia visiva e la bellezza dei dettagli presenti nelle proprie esperienze quotidiane.

Shop È da poco disponibile su Tim Van Laere Books, il libro dell’ultima mostra dell’artista, anch’esso intitolato Between Fish and Stars. Il libro si compone di 112 pagine con l’introduzione - in quattro lingue tra cui l’italiano - del direttore del Centraal Museum di Utrecht, Bart Rutten.

Ben Sledsens (nato nel 1991 ad Anversa) vive e lavora ad Anversa, Belgio. Le sue opere fanno parte di numerose collezioni internazionali, tra cui il Centraal Museum di Utrecht, il Museum of Contemporary Art di San Diego, il M HKA di Anversa, il CAC di Malaga, la Fundación Canaria para el Desarrollo de la Pintura di Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, l'Hermitage di San Pietroburgo e la Nassima Landau Art Foundation di Tel Aviv.
