Recently wrapped up work on this front door project commission. This is my second time doing something like this. My client gave my almost complete creative freedom, just specifying that she wanted a subtly witchy vibe.
Since there weren't any specifics that I had to include, I didn't have a sketch and just sort of made up the design as I went. I finished reading "The Starless Sea" by Erin Morgenstern not too long ago, and I think I was sort of subconsciously influenced by it as I worked. If you've read the book, you'll know that painted doors do come up a bit in the plot. So that's where the sword and key imagery came from. Again, if you know, you know. Though, I was looking at Finn's sword from Adventure Time as a reference. The celestial and botanical imagery is a bit more general, I think. It just sort of felt right. The evil eye came from the shape of the paneling that was already carved into the wood, I just thought it already kind of looked like an eye, so I put one there.
Anyway, I'm quite pleased with how it came out, and I hope you guys like it too!

I’m trying to romanticize my life a little more each day.
The Garden of Fine Art was gorgeous
We finally had a nice, warm spring day so I had to go out and enjoy it
The admission was only ¥100, and surprisingly not many people were there. It was the perfect place to relax, take photos, and get in a few chapters of Love, Theoretically
It was a slow Saturday. One of the best kinds of days
Gallery: Garden of Fine Art
Location: Kitayama, Kyoto

Look! Look! It’s baaaack! Aaaa, I’m crying from happiness--it’s back!
This little watercolor station survived winter flooding, spring flooding, gale winds, fallen trees--it was completely submerged beneath muddy silt and sticky river clay again and again these past stormy months. After so much digging and scraping and cleaning, the entire area is now sparkling, shining, and looking more beautiful than ever! Let’s make this a spectacular watercolor summer, and a super big RWBY nature scene year! 👏💖🎨🖌️🌿

Painting a dream of timeless love
It seems as if he is not real, just a thought of hers, a nostalgia. He represents a beautiful dream for her, but she doesn't feel him physically, only her thoughts sense him beside her. She is a little upset because he is asking her for something, and she knows what follows. If she were to accept, the beautiful dream she doesn't want to leave would collapse. She would stay there with him forever. She is both sad and happy to have him. They are connected to the leaves, the trees, the universe. She is life, she is red, and he is the sky, he is blue. He protects and embraces her with gentleness and love. They love each other through touch alone.
