I want to have a home, it can be small too, and I want the kitchen and the dining room and my study to be my absolute favourite parts of the house (they already are!) and I of course want to have a humble library, I also want plants creeping up and down the walls, I want tiled patterns of yellow and blue on the floor, I'm going to have a incense sticks from India (we call them agarbatti, oud and bukhoor) and have a wall dedicated to masala for amazing scents and tea, I'm going to have two work desks - one to write on and the other for purposeful creative clutter, I'm going to have so many big windows and stained glass in my home that light and colour are always thrown around the walls lazily, I want to have two cats and one dog, I'm going to get a phonograph and vinyl records of all old hindi filmy favourites from the '60s to the '90s, I'm going to have a ranch with intricate woodwork and a swing, and I'm going to wear sarees kurta/shawls all the time
I cannot imagine where this location would be, but ideally it would be in Asia - I have still so much to see of northern India's mountainous locations and I like the cold there and the warmth is everything too. I think toward north east India, or the places that Ruskin Bond writes about is where I want to live

What to Expect from the Top 10 Hindi Songs 2024
The Promise of a Musical Renaissance
As we step into 2024, the anticipation for Bollywood's musical lineup is palpable. Hindi music has always been a reflection of evolving cultural and artistic trends, blending classical elements with modern innovation. This year, fans are ready for a mix of soulful melodies, foot-tapping beats, and experimental tracks. The top 10 Hindi songs 2024 promise to push creative boundaries while staying rooted in Bollywood's rich musical heritage.
From emotionally resonant lyrics to dynamic compositions, these songs are set to capture the essence of 2024. Let’s explore the elements making these tracks the most awaited of the year.
1. The Role of Film Music in Bollywood Hits
At the heart of Bollywood's success lies its film music. Bollywood has a longstanding tradition of creating songs that not only complement the narrative but also stand alone as cultural phenomena. This year, filmmakers and composers are experimenting with diverse styles to appeal to a global audience.
Film music, especially in the Hindi film industry, thrives on its ability to enhance emotions. Expect grand orchestras, electronic influences, and innovative soundscapes to dominate 2024’s top tracks. By seamlessly blending traditional instruments like the sitar and tabla with cutting-edge music production, the Hindi music industry ensures that its songs resonate across generations.
2. Fusion: The Defining Trend of 2024
One of the defining characteristics of 2024’s top tracks will be fusion. Composers are no longer restricted to genre boundaries. Bollywood is increasingly incorporating global musical elements, from Latin rhythms to Middle Eastern undertones.
Take inspiration from Turkish songs, which have become an influential force in Bollywood compositions. Their unique combination of evocative melodies and rhythmic intensity offers lessons in innovation. You’ll notice Turkish stringed instruments like the oud and qanun making subtle appearances in this year’s songs. This blending of East and West reflects how Bollywood constantly evolves to embrace global trends.
3. Lyrics that Resonate
The power of Hindi songs lies not only in their tunes but also in their words. Songwriters are paying closer attention to crafting lyrics that connect emotionally with audiences. In 2024, expect themes that reflect universal experiences such as love, heartbreak, and self-discovery.
Platforms like M lyrics have highlighted the increasing focus on meaningful storytelling in music. Lyrical depth paired with melodious tunes makes a song memorable, and this year’s lineup promises to continue this trend. Composers are experimenting with conversational and poetic lyrics, ensuring songs remain relatable yet timeless.
4. The Evolution of Dance Numbers
No Bollywood chart would be complete without its share of upbeat, danceable tracks. In 2024, these songs are taking a fresh direction. While earlier dance numbers were dominated by high-energy EDM beats, this year’s tracks will include a mix of Afrobeat rhythms, retro-inspired disco elements, and contemporary house music.
Tracks like the Biba song have already shown how catchy beats combined with dynamic choreography create instant hits. This year’s dance numbers will also feature lyrics that encourage sing-alongs, ensuring they dominate social media platforms and party playlists alike. Watch out for music videos that combine bold visuals with high-octane performances, making these songs even more engaging.
5. Love Ballads Take Center Stage
Bollywood has always excelled in creating unforgettable love ballads, and 2024 is no exception. Romantic songs are set to regain their prominence, with soulful tunes and heartfelt lyrics capturing the beauty of love in all its forms.
This year’s love ballads will likely combine acoustic instruments, such as the guitar and piano, with lush orchestral arrangements to create tracks that linger in listeners’ minds. The use of natural sounds—like flowing water or chirping birds—will add an organic touch to these compositions, making them even more immersive.
6. The Importance of Digital Platforms
Digital platforms have reshaped how music is produced, distributed, and consumed. Services like Spotify and YouTube allow artists to reach global audiences instantly, creating new benchmarks for what constitutes a hit. As audiences become more diverse, composers are creating multilingual versions of their tracks to cater to a wider demographic.
This accessibility has allowed Bollywood songs, including the top 10 Hindi songs 2024, to break geographical barriers. Expect to see collaborations between Indian and international artists, reflecting the global nature of modern music.
7. Bollywood’s Experimentation with Genres
2024 will also see Bollywood diving deeper into uncharted musical territories. Genres like indie pop, folk-fusion, and even lofi beats are gaining traction in mainstream cinema. This openness to experimentation is attracting younger audiences who value creativity and authenticity.
Producers are also incorporating regional music styles, such as Punjabi beats and Rajasthani folk, to add a fresh layer of authenticity. The inclusion of regional languages within Bollywood songs ensures these tracks resonate with audiences across India and beyond.
8. Social Media’s Role in Shaping Hits
Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok are redefining how songs become popular. Short-form videos have made music a critical part of digital culture. Snippets of songs from the top 10 Hindi songs 2024 will likely go viral due to their catchy hooks and relatable themes.
Choreographers and influencers are already creating dance challenges, further boosting the popularity of these tracks. The integration of music and social trends ensures Bollywood remains relevant in a fast-paced digital world.
9. Female Voices Leading the Way
An exciting trend in 2024 is the rise of female playback singers and composers. Female artists are taking the spotlight with their unique voices and perspectives. Whether it’s power anthems or soulful melodies, women are leaving a lasting impact on Bollywood music.
Expect singers like Shreya Ghoshal and Neha Kakkar to dominate this year’s charts with their versatility and charisma. Female composers are also stepping up, creating tracks that balance innovation with emotional depth.
10. Conclusion: A Year of Musical Excellence
The top 10 Hindi songs 2024 represent a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. As Bollywood continues to innovate and adapt, these songs will define the year’s musical landscape, leaving an indelible mark on listeners.
From heartwarming ballads to high-energy dance numbers, the diversity of tracks ensures there’s something for everyone. Which song are you most excited about? Share your thoughts in the comments below and join the conversation about this year’s music!

At the corner of Shah Almi Road and Rang Mahal Chowk in Lahore, a sole building, half-burnt, still stands bearing the words, ‘Gobind Ram Kahan Chand, Estd. 1805, Hindustan Commercial Bank’. The story goes that Gobind Ram, trader of achar, chutneys and sherbets, owned a shop on the ground floor of this building, and was also amongst the partners of this branch of the bank, which had been newly constructed at the time. As perfumers and flavourists, they were best known for their khuss-khuss sherbet. On August 14, 1947, the family was forced to flee across the border on the last night train. Among them was 22 year old Kharaiti Lal Bhatia. Son of Kahan Chand, grandson of Gobind Ram, he was one of the heirs to their fragranced empire. Amidst the Partition riots, the family could carry little across, but Kharaiti Lal made sure to bring the journals and vials of his perfume compositions. In Delhi, they started from scratch, making mostly sherbets from their new home in Daryanganj and later Chandni Chowk. But the young perfumer continued to experiment, creating oils and ittars, perfumes and aldehydes, even shaving creams and moisturizers. Kharaiti Lal passed away in the early 90s, leaving behind a treasure of handwritten compositions in English, Hindi and Urdu. Decades later, these journals were discovered by his granddaughter, Pallavi @olfaoriginals who using them as a starting point, began her journey as a perfumer. Today, she uses the same notes her grandfather preferred - menthol, rose, oud, nagarmotha, lemongrass, mitti ittar, jasmine - and tweaks them to the modern palette. When I ask her about Lahore, she says he wishes deeply to see where her grandfather’s perfumery once used to be, where he learnt his alchemist craft, learnt to fall in love with the essence of flowers and leaves, where her legacy began, before a line was drawn in the land.

Raining cats and dogs
(via Wikipedia)
The Spanish idiom "it is raining cats and dogs", used to describe particularly heavy rain, is of unknown etymology and is not necessarily related to the raining animals phenomenon. The phrase (with "polecats" instead of "cats") has been used at least since the 17th century. A number of possible etymologies have been put forward to explain the phrase; for example:
• Drainage systems on buildings in 17th-century Europe were poor and may have disgorged their contents during heavy showers, including the corpses of any animals that had accumulated in them. This occurrence is documented in Jonathan Swift's 1710 poem "Description of a City Shower", in which he describes "Drowned puppies, stinking sprats, all drenched in mud,/Dead cats and turnip-tops come tumbling down the flood." • "Cats and dogs" may be a corruption of the Greek word Katadoupoi, referring to the waterfalls on the Nile, possibly through the old French word catadupe ("waterfall"). • The Greek phrase "kata doksa", which means "contrary to expectation", is often applied to heavy rain, but there is no evidence to support the theory that it was borrowed by English speakers. In addition to at least one folk etymology:
• An "explanation" widely circulated by email claimed that in 16th-century Europe, when peasant homes were commonly thatched, animals could crawl into the thatch to find shelter from the elements and would fall out during heavy rain. However, there seems to be no evidence in support of either assertion. There may not be a logical explanation; the phrase may have been used just for its nonsensical humor value, like other equivalent English expressions ("it is raining pitchforks", "hammer handles", etc.). Other languages have equally bizarre expressions for heavy rain: • Afan Oromo: Waaqatu baqaqe ("the sky got torned") • Afrikaans: ou vrouens met knopkieries reën ("old women with clubs") • Albanian: po bie litarë-litarë ("[rain] is falling ropes-ropes"), ("is falling like ropes") • Albanian: po bën Zoti shurrën ("God is taking a piss") • Albanian: po qan Zoti ("God is crying") • Bengali: মুষলধারে বৃষ্টি পড়ছে musholdhare brishṭi poṛchhe ("rain is falling like pestles") • Bosnian: padaju ćuskije ("crowbars") • Bosnian: lije ko iz kabla ("it's pouring like from a bucket") • Cantonese: "落狗屎" ("It's raining dog's poo") • Chinese: "倾盆大雨" (qīngpén dàyǔ) ("its pouring out of basins") • Catalan: Ploure a bots i barrals ("boats and barrels") • Croatian: padaju sjekire ("axes dropping") • Czech: padají trakaře ("wheelbarrows") • Czech: leje jako z konve ("like from a watering can") • Danish: det regner skomagerdrenge ("shoemakers' apprentices") • Dutch: het regent pijpenstelen ("It's raining pipe stems (or stair rods)") • Dutch (Flemish): het regent oude wijven ("It's raining old women") • Dutch (Flemish): het regent kattenjongen ("It's raining kittens") • Estonian: sajab nagu oavarrest ("It's raining like from a beanstalk") • Finnish: Sataa kuin Esterin perseestä ("It's raining like from Esteri's ass") • Finnish: Sataa kuin saavista kaatamalla ("It's raining like poured from a bucket") • French: il pleut comme vache qui pisse ("it is raining like a peeing cow") • French: il pleut des seaux ("it's raining buckets") • French: il pleut des hallebardes ("it is raining halberds", clous ("nails"), or cordes ("ropes")) • Georgian: კოკისპირული წვიმა - [kokispiruli tsvima] ("like water flows from filled KOKA")(koka Georgian, water measuring tableware, jar) • German: Es regnet junge Hunde ("young dogs") or Es schüttet wie aus Eimern ("like poured from buckets") • Greek: βρέχει καρεκλοπόδαρα ("chair legs") • Hindi: मुसलधार बारिश (musaldhār bārish) ("rain like a pestle [onto a mortar]") • Hungarian: mintha dézsából öntenék ("like poured from a vat") • Icelandic: Það rignir eins og hellt sé úr fötu ("like poured from a bucket") • Japanese: 土砂降り (doshaburi) ("earth and sand descending") • Kannada:ಮುಸಲಧಾರೆ, ಕುಂಭದ್ರೋ ಮಳೆ ("a stream of mallets") • Italian: piove a catinelle ("poured from a basin") • Latvian: līst kā no spaiņiem ("it's raining like from buckets") • Lithuanian: pila kaip iš kibiro ("it's pouring like from a bucket") • Malayalam: പേമാരി pemari ("mad rain") • Marathi: मुसळधार पाउस("rain like a pestle [onto a mortar]") • Nepali: मुसलधारे झरी ("rain like a pestle [onto a mortar]") • Norwegian: det regner trollkjerringer ("she-trolls") • Polish: leje jak z cebra ("like from a bucket") • Portuguese: chovem or está chovendo/a chover canivetes ("penknives") • Portuguese: chove a potes/baldes ("it is raining by the pot/bucket load") • Portuguese: chove a cântaros/canecos ("it is raining by the jug load") • Portuguese (Brazil): chovem cobras e lagartos ("snakes and lizards") • Portuguese (Brazil): está caindo um pau-d'água ("a stick of water is falling") • Portuguese (Brazil): está caindo um pé-d'água ("a foot of water is falling") • Romanian: plouă cu broaşte ("raining frogs") • Romanian: plouă cu găleata ("from a bucket") • Russian: льет как из ведра ("from a bucket") • Sinhalese: නාකපන්න වහිනවා ("it's raining cats and dogs") • Spanish: están lloviendo chuzos de punta ("shortpikes/icicles point first" - not only is it raining a lot, but it's so cold and windy that being hit by the drops hurts) • Spanish: está lloviendo a cántaros ("by the clay pot-full") • Spanish: llueven sapos y culebras ("toads and snakes") • Spanish (Argentina): caen soretes de punta ("pieces of dung head-first") • Spanish (Venezuela): está cayendo un palo de agua ("a stick of water is falling") • Spanish (Colombia): estan lloviendo maridos ("it's raining husbands") • Serbian: padaju sekire ("axes") • Swedish: Det regnar smådjävlar ("It is raining little devils") • Swedish: Det regnar småspik ("It is raining small nails") • Swedish: regnet står som spön i backen ("the rain stands like canes hitting the ground") • Tamil: பேய் மழை pei mazhi ("ghost rain") • Telugu: కుండపోత వర్షం ("pouring like an inverted pot") • Turkish: bardaktan boşanırcasına ("like poured from a cup") • Urdu: musladhār bārish ("rain like a pestle [on a mortar]") • Welsh: mae hi'n bwrw hen wragedd a ffyn ("old ladies and sticks")

(YZ03)Classic fermented as name implies the wood is soaked well to get the fermented notes. It open with Chocolaty, Buttery, Woody, light fermented and light minty notes. It doesn’t have that barnyardish note which is common in Hindi Soaked oils but since it is a different species of agarwood, the fermentation brings some spicy, dirty, woody nuances if allowed to soak for longer duration. After almost 1 hour or so the chocolaty aroma fades a bit and is running in the backgroud along with peanut butter notes covered by that fermented( so what dirty)woody and sweet date honey powdery notes. The base notes are almost the like that of typical prachinburi oil. i.e. Spicy, sour sweet , woddy, some pinching notes and added cacao notes. The bitterness of cacao remains throughout the journey. The longevity is decent more than 10 hours.

The Epichorus describe themselves as performing “Indo-Arabic roots music - contemporary music inspired by the old sounds. They are lineage holders in classical traditions from India to Egypt and Greece, alongside Jazz and fusion aficionados. Master vocalist Priya Darshini serenades beyond the bounds of language, moving fluidly between Hebrew, Hindi and Aramaic backed by Oud, Violin, Accordion, Hammered Dulcimer, Percussion and Upright Bass.“
Given all of that, it would totally make sense that they’d look to the Psalms for a Hebrew text. Jewish music is, in some ways, the ultimate fusion music, as Jewish musicians moved around the world. A lot of the musicians in the old Persian courts were Jewish, for instance, and I suspect that it wouldn’t have been terribly unusual for some of those musicians to go home and perform Psalm 118 in a style similar to this.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Use Oud al Hindi (Indian costus/qust al hindi) as it contains seven cures.” (Abu Dawud 3877) The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best medicines you may treat yourselves with is cupping (hijama) and sea incense (sea costus/qust al bahri).” (Bukhari 5696) Some of the amazing benefits of costus are: • powerful against respiratory issues • back and joint pain relief • boosts immune system • regulates period • kills period pain • halts hair loss • improves skin health • burns jinn • expels magic • boosts libido • increases sperm count • lowers blood pressure • aids asthmatics • good for gout • aids weight loss • detoxifies body • effective against gastric ulcers • powerful against coughs and colds Pregnant and lactating women should seek medical advice. Caution should be taken by those with low blood pressure. Indian and sea costus are both available on my shops.
