that was the most bisexual episode of Oshi no Ko yet. Ruby talks way too much about boobs and how pretty her female classmates are to be completely straight

I wonder how much pressure the people in charge of oshi no ko's anime adaptation felt thanks to the meta commentary from the manga about lowering your expectations for disappointing anime adaptations. That's one way to ensure high quality adaptations of your work. i have to say it worked

This week’s episode was SOOOO GOOD. I loved the chapters within it, the humor, the imagery, the characterization, but the anime really brought all of those things to life even more with the music and voice acting.
And the directing??? The added imagery??? That anime original shot with the foreshadowing?!?!?!
This adaptation may kill me, I fear. And next episode has another of my favorite chapters in. I might not make it…

Week 4 and another episode of Oshi No Ko!!!!
Tumblr media
Alright, so at the end of last episode we were all super excited about what Aqua was about to do on the film set, yeah??? Well, I’ve gotta say(at least for me) it was everything I hoped and a complete surprise to me at the same time! Part of me was definitely expecting for him to step in and completely blow everyone away with his acting skills(because despite the fact that he keeps claiming that he’s bad at acting, I just don’t believe it!), and, in a way, he did, just not how I was expecting him to!
Aqua’s obsessive, that’s, like, kind of his number one personality trait. He doesn’t really seem to have any interests or goals aside from getting revenge for Ai/anything to do with Ai and acting(though he doesn’t let himself admit it). That being said, when he enters the scene, when he was practicing for the scene before the camera was rolling, all of that showed the effort and care he put into his acting. He matched up the screen to the manga! Like, that’s next level right there! Also, he literally got himself punched???? Like, dang, dude! Stop claiming not to care about your job if that’s the length that you’re going to go to!
Tumblr media
We also get Kana, slowly losing faith in her work in this scene, which was so dang sad!!!! Like, this girl puts so much work into her job and she just cares so incredibly much! Seeing her trying to get Melt-kun to be better and failing and the tremble in her eyes when that happened??? Ooh, it hurt! This girl deserves the best!!!! I’d honestly not be surprised at all if she ends up developing a crush on Aqua(like their conversation on scandals and the “look of a maiden in love” scene seem to imply—at least to me)! Also, if she does end up becoming an idol with Ruby like the end of the show implied then I am so here for it!!!!! More Kana content please and thank you!!!!
Tumblr media
Now, Aqua vs the Producer guy—can I just say that the producer gives me the creeps? Like, the way he kept mentioning that Aqua looks like Ai makes me worried that he might have some suspicions about Aqua’s background and, like Aqua and Kana said just a minute or two before that, we don’t want any scandals for these characters! Aqua and Ruby’s very existences are scandals waiting to happen, and I’m sure that it’ll get out eventually, but it would definitely make it even more difficult for Aqua to find their father if it is shared with the public. Oh, and is Aqua gonna be on a dating show????? Part of me is laughing—that boy doesn’t fit the dating show vibes at all!—but, at the same time, Aqua deserves so much better than to go on some dumb dating show just to get that information! Thing is—as I’ve mentioned before—our boy is obsessive and I can absolutely see him going on the show if just for that information.
Moving on from the creepy producer, school’s finally started! Ruby is honestly such a teenager and it’s really sweet—being all nervous about making friends, constantly comparing herself to others, being so excited for it all! Like, Aqua could never! Also, did you all catch Ruby saying that Shiranui(or whatever her name—but we’ll get back to her in a second because she’s giving me some sketchy vibes!) is her number one right now and Aqua—smiling, but still—said that Ai is and always would be his number one? Even though Ruby sort of muttered of course that’s the way it is for her, too, and all this is just another clear indicator of how Ruby is moving on from what happened with Ai while Aqua just isn’t.
Tumblr media
It did make me remember the fact that Aqua doesn’t really seem to have any of his own interests, though. Like, yes, there’s acting, but the Director got him started and then Ai asked if he was going to be an actor in her dying moments, so how much of this is really him? Aqua—both as Aqua and as the Doctor—don’t seem to have any interests of their own. Ai was gotten from Sarina, acting was got from Ai, and what else is there? Revenge, which is just the Ai obsession twisted into something darker? Sarina said that this is a man with no dreams, and I’m inclined to believe her. He became a doctor in his first life—something that seems incredibly ambitious on the surface—but as a doctor he was lackadaisical and seemed to have no passion for his work. That’s not really ambition—or at least it doesn’t seem like it. Did he become a doctor then see all the better doctors and retreat just like he did as Aqua with acting? I’m so curious! Also, the fact that Aqua’s good at reading people’s intentions(which was mentioned in this episode as well as the first with how Aqua’s good at knowing what the directors want) makes me wonder if he’s always been good at knowing ad doing whatever it is the people around him want him to do. I really want to know more about his background—in case you haven’t figured that out yet!
Tumblr media
Now, back to the story, Shiranui? The famous chick in Ruby’s class? Straight-up, she seems hecka suspicious to me! Like, everything she’s said and done so far seem very surface-level and pre-planned to me. Knowing where Ruby’s friend is from as well as the name of the show Aqua was in? Why on Earth would she know that much detail??? I feel like that morning—when she skipped the entrance ceremony—she was actually studying up on her classmates so that she would be able to seem smart and caring or whatever to make herself look better. I mean, she called Sweet Love good? Sorry, but even though I do think Aqua did a good job on his scene I doubt that this chick sincerely watched the show and thought it was good. That is, unless she’s part of the dating show that Aqua’s gonna be on and that’s why she had a job that kept bringing it up and bothered to watch it! Out of the two options, though, I believe the studied it all for her public persona reason quite a bit more.
Tumblr media
Overall, another enjoyable episode! After the first episode I will say that these all feel too short for me, but maybe that’s good because it means that I’m always hungry for the next episode! Next week will probably focus more on Ruby and the idol group they’re creating, but I can’t wait to see how that will all go, too! Maybe we’ll also get more of Aqua in school—which I’m actually a bit interested in. Oh, finally, crack theory: do you all think that Aqua’s gonna end up missing a ton of school for acting jobs and then almost be held back a year in spite of being the top of his class purely because he’s lacking in attendance? I doubt it’s actually going to happen, but gosh, the idea occurred to me while watching this episode and I haven’t been able to stop laughing since!
Anyway, see you all for episode 5 next week!

Let's Watch OSHI NO KO Episode 4 - "Actors"
This week on Oshi no Ko; Aqua very literally plays the villain, while Ruby frets over her lack of experience in the entertainment industry. ----
Let’s Watch is a weekly recap column where I follow an anime for the course of its entire runtime. Expect spoilers! In with an out with a bang. If you’ll remember the closing minutes of last week’s episode, Aqua promised to make his performance in the final episode of Sweet Today count. And, implicitly, that was the show also promising to dazzle us. So, the question of how exactly it goes is…

Just watched most of the first episode of Oshi no Ko, I’d been planning to check it out for a bit, but since it’s only available on HiDive from what I can tell, I was putting it off.
But I realized recently that Revue Starlight is also on HiDive, getting the subscription for one show didn’t really feel worth it, but I can do it if I’m getting access to both of them.
I did not expect it to be an hour and a half for a single episode, though, since anime episodes are normally 1/4 that length. But I think I actually really like that they made the first episode long enough to do what it needs to do.
Setting up the characters, the premise, all of that. It’s nice that they gave it time to really set all that up.
I think I’ve heard it’s written by the Kaguya-sama author, so I’m looking forward to when I can get to the rest of the show.

Top 10 lists are gradually coming out now that New Year is upon us. From Spotify Wrapped to even Crunchyroll arc. In Japan they are churning out lists of anime works that the audience likes for the year 2024.
Numan, for example, made a survey and this is the result.
Tumblr media
A personal favourite and it seems to be the most favourite among the Japanese viewers is “Bang Brave Bang Bravern.” It is placed on No. 1. Isami and Lewis and friends, you guys bag the topmost award.
Tumblr media
2. Oblivion Battery (it was fine and saw the appeal, besides another Youhei Azakami character, so yeah!)
3. Touken Ranbu Warriors
4. Oshi no Ko (just started to watch it on Christmas Day but I saw the live action first and it was good!)
5. Delicious in Dungeon
6. Wind Breaker
7. Delico’s Nursery (dropped it after three episodes, might start again.)
8. Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler(Boarding School/Weston School arc) (another fave)
Tumblr media
9. My Hero Academia
10. A tie of the following three works:
Demon Slayer
Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose its Master (am devoted to this, throughly understand why the book series keeps on winning literary awards.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Red Cat Ramen
So there it is. The top 10 anime list from the Japanese viewers.
MY TOP 10 for 2024
Brace yourselves!
1. Yatagarasu : The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master (so obvious)
2. Kamonohashi Ron no kindan suiri (again, it is also obvious)
3. Bang Brave Bang Bravern (yep!)
4. Black Butler (no doubt about it)
5. The Apothecary Diaries (curious of the next season)
6. Cherry Magic: Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!
7. Train to the End of the World
8. Twilight Out of Focus
Tumblr media
9. The Boy and the Heron
10. Baku Neko Anzu-Chan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honorable mentions:
Tadaima, Okaeri
Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again
Oblivion Battery
Oshi no Ko
Dororo (I know it was released in 2019, but I binged it this week and I love the fact that Hiroki Suzuki is Hyakkimaru and the story is so beautiful that I cried at the end…)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How about yours? What anime works are you curious of for next year?
I am looking forward to the Emerald Witch arc of Kuroshitsuji next year especially.
Anyway, a Happy New Year to all of you. May 2025 a much better, kinder one and all our wishes (or some of them) will come true.

【OSHI NO KO】 Season 2 Episode 17
I meant to post on Melt's development when I was rereading the manga (I'm not sure if it's because OnK chapters are short or it's an easy read but I've already read the whole manga twice already ) but I don't want to spoil anime-only fans. I was sure it would be animated and I was very hopeful of the Tokyo Blade arc animation ever since the 1st episode and based on the feedback, episode 17 did not disappoint! 😊
Tumblr media
This panel is not part of episode 17 but I really love how Melt is so comfortable with Kana that he could just drag her like that 😅 (In an alternate universe, I hope these teenagers were just living normally as teenagers. Bickering, fighting over love interests, then having a picnic together after a long day 🤣)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The opening theme for Tokyo Blade is such an earworm! Also, I know that this is about Melt but since it showed again this Tokyo Blade introduction of characters, Touki in the manga is much more handsome than Aqua I mean would you look at Touki?!
Tumblr media
ARIMA KANA! She's so good at what she's doing. She's so precious I love her so much. 😻Also, this part was sodetailed you can hear the harness as Kana flies to the ground what a production ♥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not as elaborate in the episode but look how worn out Melt's wooden sword is. He really worked hard to improve. Also, in the previous episode, he's one of the cast who goes home late because he rehearses by himself. Oh Melt, you hardworking you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These mangacaps has been on my files for months already because I was really waiting for Melt's story to be shown to the world. Also, it's brave for Akasaka-sensei to show that anyone can be taken advantage of, regardless of the gender, regardless of age. What a cruel world.
Tumblr media
This performance sparked so many things for all the actors involved that we still get to see bits of it every now and then. 🥰
Tumblr media
The justice the animation gave to this panel oh my gosh it was so good!!! The manga arc is good but the anime brings it to a whole new different level! ♥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how the animation had slight differences from the manga. Everyone was really watching Melt's performance, including Kana and Aqua. and Melt did not disappoint. (I am out of words I mean this is Melt we are talking about, that Melt who delivered his lines awkwardly that Miyako had to shut down the laptop because they can't bear to watch the episode. And now we see that Melt who worked hard to deserve his spot in this entertainment industry. Who would not be proud of that?!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This line here was a flashback from season 1 Episode 4 where Aqua told Melt that acting is all about putting your emotions into it. What a bizarre advice from someone who rekindles his trauma when he's doing emotional acting. If Aqua was using his emotions in I'll Go With Sweet Today, I wonder why he haven't had his panic attack? Sure Kana was not there to tell him "Aqua-kun, what would you do if your mother died?" but he's playing a stalker, someone similar to what really killed Ai, a scene so close to a real-life scenario...so why? It's curious...
The feedbacks and posts of people who watched this episode were true. This episode was really good! ♥

Dimension 20 shows always sweep so I already have a feeling about how this will play out. Opinions below the cut. There may be spoilers for any of these.
Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest: 100 Years Quest isn’t really necessary in terms of story. Fairy Tail was pretty wrapped up. I’m just here for the vibes, but if they perform character assassination, I will riot.
Dimension 20: Never Stop Blowing Up: I’m not really keeping up with this one, more just watching it casually. It’s a really fun premise though. All the players this campaign pull off playing one character in another character’s body really well.
Wistoria: Wand and Sword: This is just Black Clover lol. Jokes aside, I have gotten so invested in this show that I started the manga and have completely caught up. Will is a likeable protagonist (he’s so cute) and the world building is really interesting. One of the teachers is hot and the other one is Severus Snape. From reading the manga, I cannot wait to see more of the anime and meet the characters that have yet to be introduced, especially since the animation is so pretty. Highly recommend.
Fluffy Paradise: Another one I’m watching mainly for the vibes. I don’t usually gravitate to isekai, but this is a pretty chill story about a girl who just wants to pet animals. Honestly, there’s more plot than I thought there would be.
Oshi no Ko: I honestly forgot when Season 2 was coming up and finally caught up once episode 4 was out. It's good. My favorite part so far was that bit where Kana is acting out a fight scene during rehearsal and their acting is represented visually by these paint splatters going everywhere. That was cool. Is Ruby going to do anything? I don't know.

Finished Oshi no Ko live action. 4/5. They condensed a lot of stuff but I’m ok with that since it flows better in TV format. Last episode mixed a bit of s1 and s2 of the anime. Less emphasis on romance and more on the murder mystery. Akane’s actress is incredible. Aqua is edgy/cringe as hell at times, but he is in the manga too so whatever. Ruby’s actress is a former idol herself and really nails her personality and y’all know how I felt about Ano’s Memcho.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kana’s actress was good too, but fuck me she was annoying as shit. She is in the anime as well but she doesn’t have the cute anime girl pr to help her here. Just annoying for no reason
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously if you want the full story accurately you’ll go read the manga, but for a J drama adaptation this was fire. Some scenes hit harder in live action than the anime for me. Excited for the movie.
