The rat catcher also known Orvyn. Low-born and lacking renown, finds himself a master of behavior. The king’s lakeys, awfully aware of the rats plaguing the palace, advise the 23 year old to put his skills to use. He gets a dry place to sleep in return and Orvyn can only oblige. It’s the smart thing to. It would add a couple more years to his probably short life.

Being born in the sewers below the capital, he isn’t afraid of the small crooks and cracks of the tunnels, and manages to learn the rats’ habits. Whenever Orvyn is on duty the palace is clean and rat free, much to the disliking of the other catchers.

Absolutely, friend!! Fair warning... I've never written for Tolkien works before, and it's been a little while since I've read the books, so the style of this might not be completely accurate.

My step faltered this afternoon, he wrote in his even, careful script, I strode onto a fallen branch and a spur pierced my flesh. I have removed the talon, but I suspect a day of rest will be needed so I may avoid poisoning my blood with the soil. I will return to my travels in the overmorrow.

When he'd finished the line, he set his journal beside him and twisted to peer at his own torn flesh. The bleeding had now stopped, and the spur had not gone terribly deep thanks to the thick calluses he wore (that was his father's blood in him, he thought, and he thanked that ancestry each day he walked the rough earth), but it was a rather unfortunately-placed wound that had him hopping one-footed around his own camp.

Orvyn hoped his journey would not be too delayed. He had planned to foot the mountains within the next fortnight, in an effort to avoid the harsher of the seasons, but it was treacherous terrain that would not bode well for an affected stride. If this wound did not heal itself promptly, he would be faced with the choice of either a chilling winter or a troublesome slide thanks to his lost footing.

But this was a decision for the morning. Now was the time for good food and good rest, and to finish recounting the day's ventures.
