@rcmancedawn continued from here
There is a noise of protest from the young apprentice as his strawhat gets tugged over his eyes. Still clinging to Whitey, he pouts at her as he uses one arm to push his hat back up. "No way! Mine was a gift too!" He gives a serious nod. No hat was better than his, he had been given it by Captain Roger himself after all!
Still curiosity gets the better of him. "Who gave you yours? You didn't have that one last time." They often had run ins with the Whitebeards and while not all ended in a peaceful exchange like today, they still had developed somewhat of a familiarity with each other due to their rivalry.
At the question regarding Buggy he shakes his head. It was rare that the two apprentices were seen without each other. "I think Buggy is still hiding from Rayleigh after his latest prank." Not that Shanks could blame his crewmate. Silvers Rayleigh could be terrifying if he wanted to be.

One of the things I appreciate about Hollow Knight is the subtle distinctions in the design of each area of the map, and the way that those differences have such an impact on the moment-to-moment feel of being in those places.
What particularly resonates with me is the shades of difference between the three remotest major regions of the map: Deepnest, the Ancient Basin, and Kingdom's Edge. All three share an overall hostile and unsettling feeling, but their respective airs of menace manifest in different ways:
Deepnest wants you dead. Its tunnels are dark, mazelike, and claustrophobic, and when you're in them you're being hunted. Dirtcarvers attack from the ground, Little Weavers attack from the sky. You can't trust the floor to hold beneath your feet. You can't trust a corpse to stay dead. You can't trust your own reflection. Deepnest wants to back you into a corner and eat you and it will not let you forget it.
The Ancient Basin is dead. Airless, nearly empty, nearly silent. In most of the region, the only life you will see is Shadow Creepers, slow and mindless creatures that (per the Hunter's Journal) have never been known to eat or drink. If you dig deep enough you can find the vestiges of life – a lighthouse long abandoned, the vast emptiness where a palace once stood – but even these are few and far between. If the Ancient Basin were to blink into nonexistence, who but you would ever notice?
Kingdom's Edge does not care whether you live or die. Everything in this region is primal and inexorable. It's carved out of irregular cliff faces and yawning chasms over pits of acid. The Hoppers march incessantly forward, turning around occasionally but never stopping or changing their behavior; the Colosseum is equally perpetual, a continuous baying for blood that dumps its corpses ceaselessly into the pits below. Kingdom's Edge will not attack you, but nor will it protect you. Faced with the onslaught of Aspids and Belflies and stalactites, you can carve out a space (as Oro did), or you can get overwhelmed and succumb (as Markoth did). Either way – whether you live or you die – it's your own fault.
The experiences of being in each of these places is totally different. But all three give me that skin-crawling curiosity of "I'm not supposed to be here, but I can't look away."
#hollow knight#this idea has been bouncing around my head for a while but i think this is the first time i've finally expressed it all in writing

This is Punto Oro, a small island country some ways away from the United Federation. Basically the Sonic equivalent of Puerto Rico, with most of the inspo from coastal tourist areas like La Parguera and La Playa de Ponce
I wanted to see a country based on PR in Sonic Unleashed since that's where I'm from, but since we didn't get that, I thought I'd make my own
These are just concepts, so there isn't much detail, or people, and they're kinda messy... I wanted to do so much more, but environments are the bane of my existence, so I might end up revisiting this one day and improve upon it
Fun fact, the bay in this town Sonic and Chip are in is bioluminescent! This is where some of my OCs are from, too!

𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐃…

[M]onk seals continued to live in large herds along the largely unexplored Atlantic seaboard of northwest Africa. It was not until 1434 that Portuguese explorers landed on these [supposedly] untamed coasts, and discovered thousands of monk seals. Almost immediately, an intensive and lucrative trade in skins and oil was established [...]. Constantly vying with Spain [...], Portugal was determined to increase its sphere of influence in Africa. While Spain eventually became preoccupied with Columbus’ elusive vision [...] [and] his celebrated 1492 expedition [...] Portugal’s colonial influence in Africa was reaching its height by 1500. The first expeditions to Africa’s Gold Coast were recorded for posterity by an official chronicler, Gomes de Zurara [...]. In his book [...] he relates how the Portuguese Infante [royal prince], eager [...], dispatched explorer Afonso Gonçalves Baldaya in a cargo vessel to make contact with the mysterious “moors” or “pagans” who were believed to inhabit the region (Zurara, 1437).
“But these are people, no matter how beastlike they may be,” proclaimed the Infante, “and they need to be governed... I command you to penetrate this land as far as you can and that you work in order to learn about those people, perhaps taking one captive, so that you may become acquainted with them.”
It was in “the year [...] one thousand four hundred and thirty-six” that Alfonso set sail [...]. [T]he barinel eventually reached the shores of the Gold River, the Rio de Oro, situated at the Bay of Dakhla in the western Sahara. [...] Afonso and his crew sighted their first seals. Literally thousands were suddenly in their field of vision. [...] “Upon seeing on a reef at the mouth of the river a large number of sea-wolves,” relates Gomes da Zurara, “which, according to the estimates of some, amounted to five thousand, he ordered killed those that could be killed and had their furs loaded onto the ship [...].” Despite the windfall in skins and oil, Afonso was still dissatisfied, having failed to take captive any of the elusive natives. He therefore ventured a further 50 leagues “to see if he could capture a man or at least a woman or child in order to satisfy the will of his master.” [...]
---
[In] 1437 [...] another Portuguese ship was dispatched to the Gold River to fill its hold with the furs and oil of the sea-wolves. [...] In 1441, [...] the Infante ordered his young wardrobe keeper, Antão Gonçalves, to captain a small ship and return to the Gold River. [...] “[T]he reason for this voyage, as instructed by his Lordship,” writes da Zurara, “was none other than to load that ship with a great quantity of hides and oil from those sea-wolves.” It appears to have been a lucrative undertaking. “ [...]
Antão Gonçalves had fulfilled the command of his master, his ship’s hold brimming with hides and casks, but the young man was eager to pursue his adventures rather than return home as ordered. He assembled his 21-man crew on deck, and addressed them with a rousing speech: “Friends and brothers, our cargo is complete, as you can see, so the principal aim of our mission has been accomplished, and we could well return should we wish to limit our toil…” He then proposed an adventure that would gladden the men’s hearts, providing relief from the laborious and tedious task of hunting, skinning and melting-down seals - a hunt for native slaves [...].
---
These first tentative expeditions to the Gold River paved the way for hunting on a more intensive, industrial scale, with 15th century Portuguese explorers dividing their time between lucrative massacres of seals and the equally profitable slave trade [...].
Indeed, within a few years of the sea wolf discovery, a purpose-built installation to process seal hides and oil had been constructed on Ylha de Lobos [...] in the estuary of the Rio de Oro [...]. Around Cap Barbas [...] no less than three sites once bore the name of the sea wolf [...]. [T]he [French and British] colonial plundering of the region [in the early twentieth century] [...], like [...] [Portuguese] conquest before them, were also portrayed as essentially idealistic endeavours. Just as the conquest of the Rio de Oro by massacre and slavery [...] “proves anew that the pursuit of disinterested geographical knowledge [...] were never the only motives of colonial conquest, so the slaughter [...] [today] would today be called “rational exploitation” [...]”,

Above: Beautiful symmetry or tangled mess?
In my previous post, I introduced THE MOODY BLUES OF THE SLEEPING GIANT, a new black and white photograph where I play with hues of blue and contrast.
In today’s post I continue exploring with monochromatic interpretation of nature with:
THE FOREST.
THE FOREST is neat, laid out with beautiful symmetry. Is it a perfect balance of harmony and form? Or is it a big tangled mess of branches, twigs and foliage, scattered about by light striking from various angles as the sun begins it late afternoon descent?
Interpretation and perspective. How we VIEW THINGS one day may not be the same as the next.
I see certain beauty and symmetry. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.... as the lyrics going back to 1939-40 state. Perhaps some things don’t change with time.
Pictured is the forest of Centennial Park which is located in Thunder Bay, in Ontario’s Superior Country. Trails include the blue and red trail: a 6.5 mile (10.5 km) loop within a portion of the 147 acres of Centennial Park. The trail begins at the park’s parking lot and follows along the shores of Current River, through the park and Trowbridge Falls.
In my next post I’ll continue with my series exploring the beautiful YUKON TERRITORY.
THE FOREST: SHOP FINE ART PRINTS.
Two versions of THE FOREST are available.

2. THE FOREST TRIFOLD

You had written previously that Franz Ferdinand wanted to obtain colonies to demonstrate the power of the AHE. Did he have any territories in mind? Africa or the Pacific?
I do not know specifically. I know one thing he definitely wanted was more concessions in China, which is why the Austro-Hungarians signed up to the Eight-Nation Alliance. Buying Rio del Oro is probably out because the Hungarians vetoed it. Maybe retaking Maputo Bay via an arrangement with the Portuguese?
Thanks for the question, Anon.

Places to Visit: Segunda: A City Divided.
Beautifully painted sign at the entrance of the town, Segunda, Cruz Del Salvador, Valle de Oro; Picture by @mynonsenseistingling.
Segunda is the largest city in the province of Cruz Del Salvador in the central region of Valle de Oro. It is home to music, culture, and is rich in our history. This article will take you on a virtual tour of this bustling and lively city.
Main Attractions
Architecture, Shops, etc
There is not one main attraction in Segunda. Rather many small streets surrounding a central square, El Toro Square, featuring brightly painted buildings of Spanish colonial architecture. Taking a stroll through the streets of Segunda is considered by many the town’s main attraction, where you will find shops, restaurants, bars, and old classic cars. The people of Segunda are generally quite friendly and approachable.
FND Recruitment Offices building, Segunda.
Another Church with no name, let's call it La Iglesia de Segunda
One of many businesses in Segunda; Picture by @mynonsenseistingling.
Awh the classic cars... What would be life in Yara without them?
A tourist takes a picture in El Toro Square, Segunda.
And of course, who says public town square says some fellow trying to sell you something. However, Segunda being much more touristy, you will find people selling refresco, food, and of course cigars. Buy some!
Where to Stay
Back to Content Index
We searched long and hard but were unable to locate any good places to stay within Segunda. The closest venues are located a short drive around El Tiburón Lagoon. There is a peninsula with many options including the prestigious El Tigre Dormido Hotel. Check local listings for pricing and availability. Also we were told the pool might be closed for maintenance.
El Tigre Dormido Hotel, Burros Bay, Cruz Del Salvador, Yara.
Where to Eat
Good eateries are not hard to find around the city. Just walk around and you will come across many cafes and cantinas. We recommend the Taberna El Escritor Jalado among others.
Taberna El Escritor Jalado, Opened during curfew hours; Segunda.
If you are in the mood for a little adventure and want to try something different, you can check out Los Langostinos Cafe located a short drive north of the city. As the name suggests, they serve fresh langoustines. This author has not personally tried it due to an allergy to shellfish but it looks like a decent place with a large terrace overlooking an old plantation that is still operational today. Plenty of parking at the bottom of the hill and you will need to climb a few stairs to get there, but it’s good para tu trasero.
Los Langostinos Cafe, Cruz Del Salvador, Valle de Oro, Yara.
Art and Culture
Mural painted on the side of a building, Segunda, Yara.
Mural by local artist, Segunda; Picture taken by @mynonsenseistingling.
You will toss a pebble in Segunda and find a beautiful mural or piece of art by local artists. (But not the metal statues. We do not talk about the metal statues.)
This authoritarian-looking monument was apparently given to Yara by the, at the time, USSR, in 1974 and represents “the country’s new, modern pursuits born from its past” or something; Picture by @mynonsenseistingling.
Historical stuff square
You will find an inner courtyard with various artifacts and plaques with bits and pieces of our history. You can go read them but in a nutshell, they recount how Segunda used to be surrounded by many sugar plantations in the 1800’s. “Settlers in the Caribbean used rum as currency in the New World.” Slaves were brought into Yara from east Africa by the Spanish settlers to work the sugar cane plantations. A pretty common historical thread among Caribbean nations except ours has a little bit more “controlling” leaders.
Segunda After Hours
The streets are dead after hours, mainly due to the curfew in place. Curfew starts at 9:00pm and is in effect until 6:00am. But it is not hardcore psycho curfew and it is certainly not as violently enforced as in other towns, but there are armed soldados patrolling after dark.
They will ask you where you are going and may apprehend you if you are visibly inebriated or if they’re just in a mood and they don’t like your face.
A citizen breaking curfew is being searched. She may or may not have a bad day;
However, despite the curfew order in Segunda, on some evenings, government approved live music shows are still running at a bar that is mainly frequented by military service men and women. Maybe that's why they aren't tooooo adamant about enforcing it.
Segunda: A City Divided
Segunda is an interesting place because the people are very polarized when it comes to politics. Perhaps because there is an FND Recruiting Office in town, there is a particularly strong pro-Castillo sentiment amongst citizens. Wear a blue scarf in the street, and you might even be cat-called a traitor.
Pro-Castillo rallies are common in El Toro Square, Segunda, Yara.
This is met by an equally vehement anti-Castillo sentiment, visible in the many anti-government graffiti and general disobedience and mischief. However, this should not affect you as a tourist. Avoid appearing overly pro or con and generally try to leave our politics to our people. This is true across the rest of Yara as well.
We hope that you enjoyed this tour of Segunda. For more information on activities, places, events, and all things Yara, consult our content index at the top of this page. Follow this page and come back often for more content!
This photo encompasses all of the chaotic beauty that is Segunda in one glance.
Special Acknowledgement
A special thanks to our guest photographer, @mynonsenseistingling, who graciously provided some of the shots for this article and for being one of our agency’s first and most faithful supporters.
A side road to Segunda; Picture by @mynonsenseistingling
Editor's Note:
We did visit inside of the FND Recruiting Office. The lady at the counter gave us the side eye.
And later on, some FND recruiter briefly took us in his car. Poor fellow probably thought we were interested in enlisting. Sorry, hermano. Already did our time and paid our dues. Sweet ride though.

@akexin Haha anything is depression hair when you’re depressed! 💕
Okay! But seriously, the MAIN reason Oro grew her hair out (although she won’t ever admit it) is because of that hunger scar or hers- as sidestep she was a bby duck taking everything in and realizing that she WANTED so much right? Well bby ducks imprint. And she happened to have been sucked into a certain VERY popular group of ppl that were easily likable- esp a certain tall Latina.
There’s a reason she’s been chasing the cameras and fancy clothing, why she’s so eager to be friends and liked (maybe more with a few other ppl cough cough mortum) by all her new ‘villain’ acquaintances. And why she’s got her hair all nice and long.
She’s impersonating a certain someone.
She never really got to indulge in anything as a ‘good girl’ because of the constant fear of being found out- NOW the bitch has got serious anger issues 😂 which help keep the fear at bay. (Most of the time)
She’s too much of a scary cat (again won’t admit it) to go after the farm (yet) but she CAN finally have a little fun and indulge in all the things she couldn’t as sidestep- the main reason she’s angry is because she’s so scared to really do anything abt her real problems tho + feels like she really won’t ever be able to make them pay for everything they did to her (wat she gunna do? Lock them all up and torture them for 5 yrs? She doesn’t wanna kill them! That’s letting them off easy!) -so all she’s doing in distracting herself and pretending that this is what she wants.
#don’t worry she’ll snap out of it now that mortum backstabbed her#she’s gunna get another wake up call#but the hair cutting won’t happen until she’s ready to be a goody two shoes again haha#orellia becerra

2023 OC Battle Royale! Round One!
So, i thought it would be fun to throw in most of my characters in a free-for-all fight, and see who yall chose as the winners! A nice time and getting some activity on here cuz reading ppls tags makes me smile! Each round lasts aroynd a week, and the next round is made either that day, or the closest day i have off cuz oh boy are these long! I'll have the rounds master list pinned each week as well for easy acess.
Now, you might be wondering why I said most of my OC's.
To make things slightly fair, I made a few rules:
No deities/deity power level OC's (which is why the Celests of both galaxies are not here)
None of my personas I use for vent art (this includes the "positive" ones of Dee Astraeus and Co.)
Self inserts are allowed because they're halfway into being OC's anyways
Try not to pit OC's from the same storyline , or in a relationship together
That being said... polls under the cut
