“I make myself acquainted with the saint of never getting it right”
For bluedancer forever? 👉👈
anon i am kissing you on the forehead this is so perfect for these guys actually
Orchid was trying, okay? He was doing his best. But he was barely 18, and he had two little sisters to take care of. All by himself. He was doing the best he could, but every missed concert, every missed ballgame reminded him that he was woefully inadequate. he would never be what his little sisters needed him to be. Orange was fine. Yeah, school was hell, but she was fine! She just needed to focus more, to apply herself, and then she'd live up to the potential all her teachers said she had. It was her own fault she was lazy, so why couldn't she be better? Right? Right? Daisy was tired. God, she was tired. She didn't even have that much going on, she was barely in high school, but she was so tired. School was exhausting and her social life was in shambles. Was it really so much to ask for one friend? For one person to love her who wasn't obligated to? Maybe it was. She was a lot sometimes. But it's not like she knew how to be less. Hyacinth was torn. On the one hand, they finally had someplace warm and safe to call home, and they never wanted to give that up. On the other... They saw how Orchid was struggling. They saw him working himself to the bone to provide for all four of them, and felt so guilty. Because they weren't even a part of the family, not really, and still, there Orchid was, bleeding himself dry to make sure they were safe. Hyacinth didn't deserve that. Orange and Daisy? yeah. They deserved that and more. But hyacinth? They shouldn't even be here.
Send me a lyric and wip and I'll write something based off of it!

Unit 04: Nature Interpretation through Art and Planning for 'All' Scenarios
Interpreting Nature Through Art
‘The Gift of Beauty’ in terms of nature interpretation is the ability for individuals to sense beauty in their natural surroundings, and to provide a spiritual uplifting and encourage resource preservation (Beck et al., 2018). Interpreting nature through art can draw out these types of responses in the public. Jay Griffiths (2013) describes how, “art elicits sympathy, conjures empathy and these emotions are requisites for a kind, kinned sense of society.” Each of these factors are necessary when aiming to change the public’s perspective on nature, and to have society create stronger relationships with nature.
The use of the arts in nature interpretation programs can entertain, educate, and make emotional connections with the audience (Beck et al., 2018). Art provides nature awareness which can bring out individuals' fascination and curiosity of the natural world (van Boeckel, 2015). Ultimately, it can enhance nature interpretation programs and advertise its importance to the public. The gift of beauty in nature can be experienced through a variety of art forms that includes theatre, visual arts, music and dance. These art forms have been used as tools of interpretation for decades as there is a natural connection between the arts and interpretation of our culture and landscape (Beck et al., 2018).
So how do I interpret this “gift of beauty” that nature has through art? I sense this gift through two main art forms, which are music and visual arts. As mentioned in the Unit 02’s blog post, there are different types of learners and I myself am an auditory learner. Thus, learning and listening through music is most likely to grab my attention and evoke strong emotions and opinions on subjects—especially that of nature. The use of music in nature interpretation programs is a strong source of eliciting this emotional response as music works in three special ways: words can stick into the minds of listeners, songs paint pictures in the imagination, and often songs evoke emotions in listeners making them memorable (Beck et al., 2018). A song that exemplifies all three of these traits is one that I have loved for a very long time is Joni Mitchell’s, ‘Big Yellow Taxi’. If you haven’t heard this song before I highly recommend you take a listen while focusing on the lyrics, it holds a very important message about the environment!
youtube
Similarly, representation of nature through visual arts is another useful tool in evoking emotional responses from individuals. Visual arts can be used in innovative ways to enhance park grounds and view artist’s realities of nature from different perspectives. The beauty of visual arts is that you can see interpretations of nature throughout centuries of time. There are bound to be differences but what is truly remarkable is how artists from different centuries can capture the same essence of a landscape. For instance, both of the paintings below capture a similar nature of The Marne river in France—that being its undeniable warmth.
Tumblr media
Modern day oil painting ‘Les Reflections sur La Marne’ by E. René His that presents their perspective of The Marne river in France.
Tumblr media
1888 painting of ‘Les Bords de la Marne’ by Paul Cézanne that displays his perspective of The Marne river in France.
After discussing art’s role in nature interpretation, how would you interpret/compare these two paintings? What art form speaks to you the most? Do you have any nature-themed song recommendations?

Nature is Art, and Art is Nature
Who are you to interpret nature through art? How do you interpret “the gift of beauty”?
I found this question a bit challenging to answer at the start, as it is a multifaceted one with no right or wrong answer. In Chapter 10, it spoke about how there are cases where people lack the “proper background” to appreciate art, and this resonated a lot with me as I’ve worked my way through my education. My program is landscape architecture, and from a first glance one would think it is all about sketching and drawing accurate depictions of beautiful landscapes. I feared I wasn’t going to do well because my aesthetic ability to draw was quite poor. What I soon came to realize was that artistic ability was not solely defined based on aesthetics, but that art is another form of language; it's communication without spoken words, it strives to elicit emotions and provoke curiosity (Beck et al., 2018, Griffiths, 2013).
I still find it challenging to come up with an answer to this question, and so I tried to break it down into pieces and start from there. Who am I? Well I am a 5th year student taking landscape architecture, who has always been surrounded by nature my whole life. How can someone like me interpret nature through art? Well I think that interpretation comes from one's definition of what art is. I really liked the way art was defined in our lecture notes; “Art (whether a painting, photograph, or a sculpture) often captures but a moment in time—and if that art is shared, the story continues” (Hooykaas, 2024). This made me think about how interpreting art through nature doesn’t have to involve the “proper background” of knowledge in the arts, but that art is simply a vessel which guides emotions and feelings (Beck et al., 2018). When in nature, our attention is often grabbed by bright, colorful shapes and patterns that allow us to be grounded, taking in the beauty of a naturalized moment. Taken from Chapter 5, Eliot Porter's take on finding the beauty in nature really resonated with me. He said, “how much is missed if we only have the eyes for bright colors…the essence of the Earth’s beauty lies in disorder” (Porter & Gleick, 1990). This quote made me think of a picture I took one winter’s day as I was walking home and happened to look up into the chaotic branches of a red pine covered in snow. The picture below is how I can describe how I interpret nature through art; the endless lines, shapes, colors that all mesh together, invoking feelings of chaotic disorder but also a certain calmness that makes you want to stop and take a deep breathe of the icy air.
Tumblr media
I think the feelings I get from this picture work quite well with how “The Gift of Beauty” is defined in Chapter 5; how interpretation intends to instill in people the conscious ability and desire to take in the beauty of their surroundings (Beck et al., 2018). I interpret this gift of beauty as being grounded in the present moment, having no other intrusive thoughts present other than what lies in front of you; or for my case from this picture, what lied above me. I think this is a very powerful way of interpreting nature because it throws away the idea of what's right and wrong, and focuses on how certain moments in time can evoke powerful emotions not obtainable through spoken words.

Jenelle Evans, 31, and her husband David Eason, 35, reportedly could face charges of assault and neglect after their son Jace, 14, recently ran away from home three times over a month, according to TMZ. The outlet claimed an investigation into the family is due to wrap up soon after law enforcement interviewed Jace, whom the Teen Mom 2 star welcomed with her ex Andrew Lewis in 2009. It’s unclear whether or not the charges will actually happen, but sources told the outlet it appears they will be filed.
The outlet further reported that after Jace ran away, he reportedly told them that David, who is his stepdad, had assaulted him. He also reportedly appeared to have visible marks on his neck and arm, which made the investigation more serious. There’s also a claim that there’s video of the alleged assault and cops have it in their possession. HollywoodLife reached out to Jenelle’s team for comment but have yet to receive a response.
The latest news about Jenelle and David comes after Jenelle regained custody of Jace from her mother, Barbara, earlier this year. The caring grandmother took custody of her grandson years ago after Jenelle was unable to properly care for him. In June, the mother and daughter seemed to be on good terms when they were spotted on a family vacation together.
In August, Jenelle made headlines when she reported Jace as missing in the area of her North Carolina home. “As a boy mom, kids can act up and rebel as I’m sure the majority of us all once did as kids too. Jace, got in trouble at school, we decided to take his phone away and that’s when he decided to run off,” she told TMZ in a statement that afternoon. The Brunswick Co. Sheriff’s Department confirmed he was later found safe.
Jace was reportedly reported missing again in September, which marked three times in a month he reportedly ran away. Local law enforcement was reportedly called to Jenelle and David’s home after the teen reportedly “snuck out” of her home through a window. Jenelle, who is also the mother of Kaiser Orion, 9, with her ex-boyfriend Nathan Griffith, and daughter Ensley Jolie, 6, with David, also reportedly told the police that her son didn’t have his phone with him at the time.

"Capturing Pippin"
Blog #201   4/11/17

Acrobats in the cast of Pippin: Viktoria Grimmy, Yannick Thomas, Lolita Costet, Orion Griffiths
For the revival of the great Broadway musical, ”Pippin,” by producers Barry & Fran Weissler, we were commissioned to make advertising photographs and the poster for the marquee.
My good luck was that in this revival, acrobats would perform throughout the play.  Working with these marvelous talents proved to be one of the richest experiences I’ve ever had.  Even more than the dancers I’ve so often photographed, the acrobats could do things with their almost superhuman bodies that are nothing short of astonishing.  Besides being brilliantly trained, they are utterly fearless. There was nothing I asked for that they wouldn’t or couldn’t do, with joyful abandon.

I directed, “Throw her to the ceiling and at the same time spin her around.”   Performers Lolita Costet and Yannick Thomas

A director’s delight: For this photograph of Viktoria Grimmy, I said “At the top of your leap, bend backwards and laugh at the camera.”
There was no direction I gave that was greeted by the slightest hesitation.
Tumblr media
Orion Griffiths “stood” on his hands, legs in the air: I said, “Let your legs down very slowly; do not let them drop!"
To say “Thank you” after the joyous day of working with the four awesome acrobats, I made portraits of each.

The set-up for this image.
My main idea – and challenge -- was to make an image where the star of the show appeared to be bursting out of the photograph.
Tumblr media
“Pippin” played by Matthew James Thomas
The “star” of this high energy picture was a great young fellow completely at home on the trampoline I used to help him soar into the air. He could do anything; the bigger challenge for me was the “exploding” factor: Here’s how we did it.
Tumblr media
We built a contained space to throw “bursts” of powder so not one molecule of it would get onto any piece of very expensive cameras, strobe packs, lenses, and other studio equipment.
Tumblr media
With the “powder throwers” inside the enclosure, wearing hazmat gear, I’m set to make photographs.  And, Beverly is at the ready to help solve problems.
Tumblr media
With each burst of powder, I make another picture.
We did NOT use talc which is a dangerous substance.  It is inert and if inhaled can cause a variety of problems, in addition to remaining in the lungs indefinitely.  Talcum powder should never be used by human beings in my opinion. We used corn starch which is bio-degradable.
Tumblr media
With each image recorded on the screen, my assistant Bart Babinski watches for details.
Tumblr media
From inside of the enclosure, the camera looks in through a special protective port.
Tumblr media
Outside, I’m poised to catch each “explosion.”
Tumblr media
Protection from inhaling the fine powder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vroom! Pop!
Tumblr media
Of the hundreds of bursts we recorded, no two were exactly alike, giving me hard choices from an embarrassment of visual riches.
