Kaede Kisaragi Watches Marvel's Agents of SHIELD S4E12 - Hot Potato Soup

We begin with... Oh my god, AGENT KOENIG QUOTING MOVIES, THIS EPISODE IS ALREADY THE BEST EPISODE EVER! XD

So yeah, the koenig brothers (whatever ones are left) are enjoying themselves at the arcade. Only some russian guys seem to be on the hunt for him/them. And need him alive. And luckily, they don't know the koenig twins are, well, twins. Apparently Billy Koenig takes one out while Sam Koenig does a shootout with the other. Billy takes out the one shooting Sam, but when he gives chase, he gets tasered by a third guy, the watchdogs guy, and they take him, Sam having to give chase on foot and, being severely out of shape, can't really give chase to a van.

"Agent coulson this is agent koening. They've got agent koenig, repeat, they've got agent koenig"

Bet that school rollcall was wonderfully fun for their teacher.

HOLY SHIT, SO COULSON GAVE BILLY THE DARKHOLD BECAUSE BILLY MAKES SHIT DISAPPEAR! Did he do that with Talbot's brain? Just kidding! Just kidding! Coulson and Daisy circle debate around LMD May over the fact Radcliffe likely discovered where koenig was due to his spying on them, since Koenig is impossible to find even by SHIELD themselves. And they also agree Radcliffe doesn't have any vendetta with SHIELD, and is only allied to nadeer for protection and access. So anyway, for now they'll talk to Sam and hope they can use billy's kidnapping to connect nadeer to it. Fitz, meanwhile, will work on radcliffe.

As in, he's interrogating the LMD Radcliffe after fixing his bullet-to-the-head trauma. And deactivated his entire body but the head. And they got Mack and Simmons running shotgun-ax interrogation. Radcliffe LMD insists he doesn't know where the real one is, also insisting that HE is the victim, and things aren't what they seem.

And cut to Billy being dragged, tied down, to sit across a tied down Radcliffe, by the Watchdogs guy. Billy makes bold claims he'll not talk under torture, ignoring radcliffe's whimpering and the threat of a REAL torture coming soon. And as soon as the guy leaves them alone... Billy begins to panic and show he WAS putting an act and is in fact very much not good with torture. It becomes clear that Radcliffe is part of the plan to make Billy say where is the darkhold, by pretending to be his friend and make him talk... But considering the confusion in billy's face, I'm about to make a prediction...

Sam reports to coulson, saying he thinks they might've gone into the sea. Which turns out is the actual truth, being we see a submarine next. Radcliffe continues to ramble on to Billy, who calls him out for acting 'gollum'. Two guys come in... and leave an onion in the room... huh. Cue another guy entering from behind... The captain of this sub, who begins disassembling the onion as a metaphor for what he'll do if no one talks. The guy grabs a vial... pours something in it... drinks it up and sniffs the onion... Aaaand it's just vodka. That's how he likes his vodka. Ugh. The guy claims old ways are better, and modern machines are actually inferior... And then claims himself to be 'the superior man', shattering the vial with one hand. Which he then intends to use on Billy's eye, if not for Radcliffe getting upset over they going as far as harming him for the intel, breaking the plan... And instead suggests getting into his head.

As Fitz tries to hack into the LMD, he finds the code is MUCH more advanced than Aida's, and when he tries to hack it, it makes Radcliffe speak in tongues. Namely, Latin. Fitz gets frustrated, demanding to know who programmed him. The LMD only whistles, like a canary, in response. Daisy, meanwhile, looking at the footage of the attack, gets confused when Sam claims she got them swapped around, that Sam is the fighter and Billy is useless... But the footage shows the opposite happening. And apparently, Sam has no clue Billy had the darkhold with him.

Radcliffe and Aida put Billy in the machine he used to copy may's mind so they can access his memories.

Sam geeks out over being in the same room as "Quake", even if he's known her for three years, he says he knew "Skye", not "Quake". And she did NOT need to know there's Quake fanfics out there. And she should not google it, no sir. And Sam totally read it. And shipping her with Black Widow. And calling them Quack. Thankfully Daisy finds the connection they wanted: the russian guys worked in the same unit as the guys who tried to kill Mace, and they all served under the senator who got attacked by inhumans and tossed Bobbi and Hunter under the bus over it. Nadeer, International Watchdogs, Russian spies, all united under inhuman hate.

And this is why they want the darkhold, says Sam, who KNEW that Billy had it and claims it's secure.

Fitz is losing his patience with the LMD, who not only knows all about Fitz, but now claims that humans are also 'programmed' by their betrayals, like Fitz with Ward's betraying his friendship, Daisy's abandoning them, and then there's Fitz's FATHER, and this is where Fitz nearly loses it. Fitz admits that he thinks this program is beyond his skills. Radcliffe asks if that isn't his father talking... Since he used to tell Fitz he wasn't smart enough... And he knows that because he KNEW fitz's dad... Wait what??? And he further seeds discord by pointing out simmons herself agrees that Fitz isn't smart enough due to her comment about Daisy not being there to help. The LMD continues to ramble how he wasn't fitz's dad's friend, but they took the same train for work. He tries to prove he is being honest by trying to tell fitz something his dad told him to tell fitz a few months ago, but Fitz pulls the plug before he can do it.

Radcliffe, waiting for Billy to be done, talks to the Captain, who says he hates inhumans because they've gained powers without suffering, without laboring to earn them. They'll destroy inhumans... and the thing that brought them onto us... wait what? Ah, too late, billy's done. They gonna enter his memories now. Billy is taken away and Radcliffe prepares to dive into the memories of Koenig. Which... include him fixing a darth vader alarm clock. Because of course. And he doesn't know where the book is, because as Sam is telling the team, BILLY GAVE THE BOOK TO HIM, which Radcliffe just saw in the memory, and now he has no clue where the book is. And Sam doesn't either... because he gave it to Agent Koenig... L.T Koenig. THE ORIGINAL KOENIG, WHO GOT ALL OF THE BROTHERS IN SHIELD. Coulson knows where he is and they gotta find him, because no Koenig will be safe now.

Simmons and Mack drink coffee, and she tells him of Fitz's dad, who was a horrible man who always called him stupid and worthless. Both want words with the man, but the man walked out on Fitz when he was 10. They COULD use SHIELD means to find the guy, but Fitz doesn't want to.

Daisy goes after the L.T. Koenig, who was last seen in a club, while LMD May and Coulson continue their chemistry. They toast to them both still being alive after them both dying. May comments that... they've been making plenty of toasts, and maybe they oughta do... something else. Daisy rainchecks them. Because L.T is on the stage... He's a standup comedian who rants against SHIELD and the government as being brainwash machines of the masses... Except not. He's Thurston. The other brother. THE LADY WHO JUST ICED THURSTON AND EXPRESSED SHOCK AT COULSON BEING THERE?!? THAT'S L.T. KOENIG.

And we soon discover Thurston is the black sheep (sheeple?) and he blames L.T for Eric Koenig's death, but she instead sees him as a hero who died so good people can do good things. After some banter, sisterly abuse and group hugs, Daisy got a lead on the Captain... Anton Ivanov, reclusive industrialist. And collector of military antiques. Like submarine. At least the Darkhold's safe right?

Well... No. L.T gave the book back to billy. It was a Hot Potato operation. Billy had it last, so she imagines he put it on the labyrinth. Top secret SHIELD vault. And Radcliffe knows the way AND the passwords. But Anton doesn't trust machines, so he is gonna get Billy to tell him HIS way, and if it matches, they go. Radcliffe doesn't want that. So Aida kills one russian, nearly breaks the watchdogs guy, and also makes anton believe briefly she's an inhuman. Apparently anton is impressed that Radcliffe built Aida, so he agrees to turn the boat around.

Fitz is looking at a pic of... his mother? He tells Simmons he feels he's in a loop... Radcliffe. Ward. Dad. It keeps happening to him. Jemma's encouragement that his way of living is him being who he is, and why she fell for him, not a bad thing that brings him betrayal, it makes Fitz have a sudden idea, GIVING HER ONE HELLUVA KISS.

Mack turns Radcliffe2 again, and begins to banter he's not alive, not flesh and blood, not soul. And Radcliffe2 tosses back that if flesh and blood isn't sign of living, and not binding a soul, then how can he prove Radcliffe2 isn't with a soul too? Better yet, if he thinks Radcliffe2 isn't real, then why bother turning him on to kill him? Just as mack readies to pop his head wide open, Fitz rushes in. The code he tried to crack wasn't a code, it was gibberish... It isn't running him. They uncork his skull... Revealing a glowing golden brain.

Sam, Coulson and May go towards the hideout in the Labyrinth, while Daisy learns how lovely it was to be the big sis bully from L.T, who clearly enjoyed making four siblings cry. Sam goes in to fetch the book, leaving May and Coulson alone. Fitz-simmons fiddle with Radcliffe2's brain, discovering it's made of light, but fully functional, like a biological brain. Quantum energy storing data. Like synapses interacting. Radcliffe2's slip up about how all the mapped brains exist within the quantum brains makes Simmons realized Radcliffe mapped May's brain.

May continues flirting with Coulson. AND THEY KISS!!!!!!!!!!! PHILINDA FANS UNITE!!! IT'S FAKE, BUT IT'S AWESOME!!!

And then men and billy are coming. Sam gives the book to May. Coulson asks her to give to him but... She pulls a gun on him. Coulson realizes she's an LMD. She argues that she didn't know her mission until she had it in her hands. She insists she's the real may, all her thoughts, memories, desires... But Coulson point-blank says May would never betray him. Just as she readies to shoot him, Quake sends her flying. Fitz-simmons warned her, and she casually quakes May's leg broken.

Mexican standoff. Billy with gun on his head. Coulson with book in his hand. He tosses the book bag to them, and they free Billy. Quake brings the book back, shoves watchdogs guy in the wall and Coulson shoots the others. Clean sweep, this one. But more baddies come in, and Watchdogs guy tasers daisy before she can quake them all. In the confusion, Billy, with the book, sees May LMd and tries to help her, only to get conked out cold. She grabs the book, but Radcliffe shows up. She begs him to take her with him now that he has the book. But he tells her that she wasn't built to last, abandonning her.

At the zephyr one, Coulson commends Billy for helping them identify their enemies, even if the darkhold is gone. And they also show their awe at Radcliffe building an LMD. Because all koenigs were part of the original LMD project... As technicians. They're not robots. Obviously.

They burn down the Aida and Radcliffe LMDs. They keep the May LMD body, because until they can find the real may, that's all they got left of her. Daisy promises Coulson they'll find her.

Stinger. Anton, watchdog and radcliffe toast vodka and onion to their success. Anton believes all alien problems in the planet are connected to one thing, and that is what he wishes to destroy. Chitauri. Kree. Inhumans. All connected. To a man.

A man who is always there. Always in the shadows. A man who is dead, yet is everywhere.

Phil Coulson.

Radcliffe, now having the darkhold, agrees to help Anton get Coulson.

Okay, um, I admit to being disappointed, because I seriously thought they had captured the wrong koenig. Sam's claims that he wasn't useless in a fight while Billy was, when the opposite was true, seemed to indicate that. But the fact they would use this to finally nail down HOW MANY koenigs exists? Pure awesome.

Anton Ivanov. He believes he is the superior human. Which is why they call him "The superior". So he's the one who is holding nadeer and radcliffe and watchdogs by the leash. Because he's a, let's say, 'humanist', believing humans are strong by their struggles and their labor... Not naturally gifted with powers like Inhumans. And this is his motive. And his theorizing that coulson is the cause of everything alien on earth? Well, he's wrong, obviously, but he also is right because Coulson DOES sorta act as the glue uniting everything. His struggle to find the obelisk that revealed inhumans to the world. His death during the Chitauri invasion, enabled by his recruting Selvig, which made him become a tool for Loki, who then killed Coulson. And his revival thanks to a serum developped from Kree blood.

Fitz's father. Hardly a small nod to Fitz's most certainly interesting past. A red herring? Or maybe he's someone very much involved in the plot...?

Quantum brains! Radcliffe/Aida did it. They cracked the code behind the quantum. And if Quantum energy can store heavy quantities of data, it's no wonder Radcliffe sees LMDs as the next step towards immortality. And it also explains how aida is able to expand her mentality beyond what the programming entailed to the point she can question Radcliffe about his decisions. Like all mad science, this will be biting someone in the ass...

Poor LMD May. Even knowing she's fake, even knowing what she wants (even if she didn't want it until being lead to by Radcliffe), she still couldn't surpass her programming. Hope we rescue the real May soon...

...Unless they plan to kill May and have the LMD be her for the rest of the show.

DON'T DO THAT!!! SERIOUSLY, DON'T!!! EVEN IF IT'D BE COOL HAVING A MCU CHARACTER TO BE LIKE THE DUGGAN LMD, THIS IS NOT COOL, SHOW!!!

Why did I have to wonder? Now I'll spend the rest of the season worried :(
