Derek Storm, Whispers Agent

I recently changed the hairstyle on my first Guild Wars 2 character Derek. He has rocked the same hairdo since 2012 when the game first released. It was time for a change, and although I had my doubts I just ended up loving it! And thus I had to draw it!

Derek is a Order of Whispers agent, and a right hand man in a guild. He is thorough, efficient and precise, taking his job seriously. No matter if it's working out in the field or just filing reports.

Order of Whispers babble

I always picture the Order of Whispers an as an organisation not of wacky hijinks spy missions, but the training for it is actually pretty brutal as you go further up the ranks. I know it’s easy to sort of gloss over the mass genocide the Commander does on a daily basis but I think to get past anything above Agent you’re gonna have to do some real fucky shit and have some very unethical and questionable things happen to you / do them to other people. Sure a Whispers-Commander got the titles of Lightbringer relatively quickly, but I’m sure at some point you got pulled aside and were told “Look, I know this happened. A lot was going on. But you and I really need to have a long, uncomfortable talk about what it means to be a Lightbringer”

It reminds me of a scene in one of the more recent Bond films, where Bond first gets his 00 status having killed 2 people in cold blood. And the idea of an established agent having to go through that sounds well…. “Fun” is not the right word, but from a writing/world building stance, yeah it sounds interesting? An avenue to explore? Whatever. I’m sure writers get excited about all kinds of weird shit in the name of their craft. Also bouncing off the TV show Nikita in which the recruits don’t get the title of “Agent” until they’ve done the deed in a kill mission. God that show was terrible but entertaining.

Anyway! Initiates and Agents perform at various levels and do various tasks within the Order so they probably haven’t had assassination orders, but definitely were assets in a mission to do just that. And to go through the training required one needs to be “hardened”. We’re not talking about emotionless zombies or anything, emotion is still a valuable weapon in an agent’s toolbelt, but some weird-ass training definitely took place so these higher-ranked individuals don’t crack.

Roisin is deep undercover into Priory business and had to undergo a lot of training not to crack under pressure. The slightest micro-expression had to be trained out of her. She’s there to essentially make friends and then abuse their trust in horrible ways. If she has to kill, she will, but she’d rather not kill a librarian / knowledge seeker yaknow?

Sienna was suuuper young when thrown into the Whispers. She was 11 and while she wasn’t given missions, she was just being looked after, she saw the outcome of a lot of things that young kids probably shouldn’t see. It was all presented very matter of fact and this is how the world works. Now she’s tasked with taking the Commander out if she becomes an issue. (They’re best friends btw!)

Isla straight up gets recruited for her sniping skills. “Hey wanna keep doing what you’re doing, get paid for it, and have a global organisation watch your back?” Sure. Sounded handy.

Yhalea, while still part of the Inquest, joins the Whispers for an intel gathering mission. Stays long enough to get promoted to Agent, finishes the job, then promptly forgets about being in the Whispers. Leaves the Inquest. Forms a Krewe.

Allianora joined hoping to find secret records of Kurzick things and hoped the Order would be the catalyst to get her back to Cantha one day. If anyone could sneak into Cantha it would be the global network of spies. Allianora knows the family history and what her ancestors have had to do to survive.

And of course, Serenity. Joined the Order young of her own choice (so she thought), and was already doing stuff with them before the start of the personal story. Being Commander she has no qualms in taking out who she needs to take out. But then of course isn’t handling that well at all post-season 4 / post EoD. So that’s a whole bucket full of trauma to digest.

Partly this is because the Pact aren't relevant to the COMMANDER anymore (they will be. Always. In my heart) but like. Why couldn't we keep hearing rumors about how successful the Pact is being? I get they're recovering after Maguuma, and maybe can't attack another dragon so soon, but why don't we hear rumors?

About rehabilitation efforts for refugees? For recovering sylvari? Humanitarian efforts? The Vigil especially were into that, pre-Pact. Making new inventions commercially-available? The new school textbooks being printed with whole chapters on the Pact and the dragons? (Instead we got Joko's lying propaganda.) Why not, instead of giving Taimi all the dragon infos and coming off as a deus ex machina, she's collaborating with the Priory? Standing on the shoulders of giants? Involving the entire scholarly organization dedicated to studying dragons, without having to put them on-screen! Instead we got Phlunt drama? Taimi's friend who died in the Ring of Fire Islands who we never even meet?

HAVE TAIMI COLLABORATE WITH WYNNET OR OGDEN OR A BRAND SPANKING NEW PRIORY CHARACTER! Straight-up GIXX why don't you?? Gixx would LOVE to swoop in and mentor the next up-and-coming dragon expert prodigy (unofficially ofc, so Phlunt doesn't get mad, but there's No Way that Phlunt can refuse to let them collab). And there wouldn't have to be ANY MORE WORK from Anet to do it like this, just downplay Phlunt's obnoxious presence, ooohh let Gixx help fight when Balthazar first reveals himself, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO EPIC?!?!?! Instead of Phlunt's idiotic "phlunt still phights! Hehe, you can't aurally hear what I did there, but it's VERY CLEVER" shut up Phlunt. Where's Gixx. Where's my Priory leader rep. Almorra's around?? What about Gixx??

Why weren't the Order of Whispers involved in the LITERAL MURSAAT LORE SEASON?!?!? Why weren't there multiple Whispers agents "pssst!"ing the Commander in Bloodstone Fen just, over and over and over until Comm is like WHERE ARE YOU ALL COMING FROM and they're like. Oh we've been here for years. Special orders from the Preceptors (cough cough, Riel, and its revealed she has HistoryTM with the White Mantle). Like, that could be a literal throwaway, unvoiced dialogue line but NO. We go talk to a random dude from a raid? Whom I've never met before and was SO confused who he was? Ugh.

And later! Why weren't the Order and the Shining Blade working together? THE MASTER OF WHISPERS IS A HUMAN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. THE SHINING BLADE SHOULD HAVE REACHED OUT TO HER LONG AGO! SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXCITED TO HAVE THEM COLLABORATE!

And! That! Would! Give! An! ACTUALLY! Credible! Reason! For! Nonhuman! Commanders! To! Join! The! Shining! Blade!

Why didn't Braham casually mention that a lot of his new Destiny's Edge guild are Pact members? Vigil norn who are TOTALLY PUMPED to fight Jormag!! Which would ALSO! LEND! SOME! CREDENCE! TO! BRAHAM'S! OVERCONFIDENCE! Like he thinks he knows what's going on bc he's hanging out with Real Pact Folks who Definitely Know What's Going On (and are maybe even right smh), MAYBE EVEN SOME WHO WERE SPECIFICALLY IN THE MAGUUMA CRASH! TO ADD A REAL PUNCH AND MOTOVATION TO BRAHAM'S ACCUSATIONS AT THE COMMANDER?

When we get to Siren's Landing, why not explicitly talk about the Pact presence in the area? No? Instead it's just random sylvari who want to honor Trahearne WHERE ARE THE PACT THAT WANT TO HONOR HIM? (Maybe I'm recalling poorly, I think there were lots of Priory around, but STILL.)

And that's just S3! Sure we were in Elona for PoF and the Pact hadn't caught up yet, but come ON! Why aren't we hearing about them helping refugees? Whispers agents and Shadows agents catching sight of each other and going 👀 at each other and then immediately launching into some kind of shared coded communication, a la Thieves Cant, with dialectical differences? Commander passes by in PoF prologue, and off in the corner there's a Whispers agents and an Elonian refugee aggressively whispering together in a corner, the Whispers agent catches up later like "yo Commander, heads up, XYZ extra infos, also look up ABC person ;) ) and then Comm forgets about it until Kito shows up and it's like! Wait a min! Know you! I've got a message from so-and-so in the Order of Whispers that was passed down from X, Y, and Z people, idk what it is but here! And Kito goes "ooohhhhhhhhh I see!" And doesn't elaborate.

IT DOESNT HAVE TO MEAN ANYTHING, IT COULD BE AN INVITATION TO DINNER FOR ALL I CARE, IT CAN JUST LITERALLY BE A REMINDER THAT THE PACT IS ALIVE AND ACTIVE AND DOING THINGS BEHIND THE SCENES UGHHH!

In S4? In IBS? Taimi's researching with the Priory still! The PACT CAN STILL MAKE MEANINGFUL CONTRIBUTIONS BEHIND THE SCENES!!

But no! Apparently they don't like that anymore! It's like oh. So yell were just sorta humoring Trahearne and I? and have learned NOTHING from how working together helped us fight Zhaitan?? How the lack of working together was disastrous in Maguuma? Surely you see that?? Hm??

Speaking of heats, Catgirl Reader gets pretty loud during hers, and she won’t stop until she gets the attention she needs. Unlike Bunny Reader who is usually more quiet and only thumps her foot when she needs help, Catgirl Reader is sliding up against her owners, meowing very loudly in human form and demanding she have sex now.

During her heat, you would most likely find her cockwarming someone’s strap while they’re busy, or whining to Ruan Mei for some heat suppressant pills until the week is over 😅

Ghost Whisperer 1.09

Roisin's been on my roster since the beginning but never really had a purpose until a few months back. She's a Whisper's Lightbringer posing as a Priory Magister.

1320 AE she joins the Whispers after a cat-and-mouse game where she was out hunting and being stalked by a Whispers agent. After "winning" the game, the agent invited her into the Order. Curious, she went along. In the Whispers she just sort of blended in as a member of the Order should, and soon enough she made agent and got a partner.

1323 AE: A few weeks prior to becoming Lightbringer her partner was killed. Unrelated to the death though she was promoted to Lightbrigner and had a small 3 man team under her command. They were told to go off grid to an abandoned post in the Shiverpeaks to watch for Jormag activity and report back. The Order was planning a bigger job for them.

1324 AE: The group moved to the Priory to infiltrate information and report back to the Whispers. They knew going in this would be a long job and would essentially be cut off from their past lives, communication only going directly through the Master of Whispers.

1327 AE: Astrid Einnkin joins the Priory. Over time the two get chatty and Astrid casually mentions her dislike of the Order of Whispers. Roisin gets interested and plans to get more info out of her.

1330 AE: Roisin is now a Magister within the Priory and oh no she has feelings for Astrid. She's been feeding information back to the Order from Astrid about how the OoW operated in Cantha and how it led to Astrid's family fleeing Cantha before it shut off. Roisin has never named her source, and now she's feeling all sorts of conflict between her personal life and her work for the Order.

Other kids in the Order are: Serenity: joined 1316 and has been busy with her own life, rarely in Kryta Sienna: joined (unwillingly) 1321 and mostly stays glued to Serenity Allianora: Not figured out where she joined up, but she's been busy with Canthan/Kurzick stuff forever and is always on the road so would never be able to spot Roisin. Madison: Doesn't join til post PoF when Serenity offers her a placeof purpose. Isla: Doesn't leave home til 1327 and Whispers approach her. Khorren: Joins 1325. Basically follows the PCs story up until Order choice and stays with them.

just watched a video about oscar potentially challenging norris in the near future and what that would mean for mclaren, and they mentioned how mark, as oscars manager would likely be very protective of him when it comes to team orders and I genuinely can't wait for mclaren team orders to favor norris in some way and mark to absolutely flip out

The state of the league of villains during act 3 is so sad man. Compress literally gave his ass for the league, got arrested and nobody gaf. Twice’s demise amounted to nothing, nobody cared. The whole discrimination arc Spinner was involved in was a mess. Suddenly Hori decided he cared about realism in his story so Toga dropped like a fly from a simple blood transfusion. Dabi is forced to sit and listen to Endeavor whine and yap about how sad he is about being an abusive pos, all the while nobody actually cares and he never got any real repercussions besides his family being (justifyingly) mean to him. Shigaraki was sidelined for a boring villain and was stripped off all his autonomy and agency.
