anyway, águas de março in the hodgson playlist. why am i freaking out? besides that fact that it’s a brazil mention, of course. well, you see, águas de março (waters of march, as translated by tom jobim himself) is a song from the point of view of someone tired, hopeful about what’s to come.

the lyricism is very calm and repetitive, overall, but most of all, it is filled with mentions of things at their ends, the rest, death. until you get to the chorus, where there’s hope, hope that this will end and good things are coming.

in the og/port version, it’s about the waters of march ending summer (‘são as águas de março fechando o verão’, or ‘it’s the waters of march closing the summer’, literal translation), and in the translated/english version, it’s about talks of the waters of march (‘and the riverbank talks of the waters of march’), but in both versions these lines are followed by hope of good things to come (‘é a promessa de vida no teu coração’ in the og, and ‘it's the promise of life, it's the joy in your heart’ in the translation, almost identical). (side note, tom jobim wrote a portuguese and english version of águas de março, so if you’d like to listen to it, there’s many english covers and they’re all very good, so highly recommend it!)

what you get is (sorry for being a broken record, but this is what the song is about!) a tired man hoping for better times. which, great description of the franklin expedition, stuck in arctic, hoping for better times.

but what really gets me going is that waters of march is in hodgson’s playlist. i keep thinking about hodgson’s ‘i’m hungry and i want to live’, and recontextualizing the song to that line, to hodgson’s persoective, and reviewing hodgson’s words with what i know of the song.

at the end, it leads me to see hodgson, his words and his acts, especially when in the mutiny camp, as (once again, with feeling) a tired but somehow still hopeful man. this is horrible, actual hell, but maybe, if he survives this, things will get better. it’s the promise of life, in your heart. i’m hungry and i want to live.

Basicaly a short story that reveals my understanding of AHam.

I am so in love with his high sensitivity and low empathy. This whole deal of not trusting crowds makes him partially out from the human society. I love the feeling SOOOO MUUUUUUUCH

Paleolithic Media Catalogue

Hello everyone :) Short story first: When I began brainstorming for my prehistoric story, I started wondering what other prehistoric fiction there is out there. I was not familiar with it and have not seen much. That's when I started my grand literature review and began a search for what fiction exist out there. I wanted to know what kinds of stories are being made with this time period. What are the common themes or recurring ideas (I found lots of humans and dinosaurs works. And time travel). Since I've had a growing collection on my computer, I decided I should keep on enlarging it and put it online. It's nowhere near complete. I'll slowly keep accumulating the collection as I find more. I only have fiction books and comics right now. I still need to work on the film section.

As for where I am in my reading, the one's I've finished reading are Earth's Children series (book 1-4. Dropped it afterwards lol. I made a post on with fanart) Dance of the Tiger and it's sequel Singletusk (They were good! I'll upload my review on the blog), and Sisters of the Wolf (It was ok!). I got my hands on The Inheritors and excited to start reading it. I REALLY want to read the Shiva trilogy, but I found no PDF online... and it's out of print :( There is certainly old copies on ebay. And I want to read Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. There seem to be lots of good books out there.

Kovis ('tough guy') by Käärijä | fin -> eng trans.

Kovis is a word with a mocking undertone, Finns usually use this word while talking about people like immature teenage boys who act tougher than they actually are. The whole song is about dealing with someone who's a difficult and immature person to be around. I decided to translate some bits very literally and add context to some of the words and expressions he uses, mostly because a more liberal english translation alone probably wouldn't fully convey how much he's mocking the person and their juvenile behavior.

If you call someone's arguments or behavior 'inttäminen' you're basically dismissing their words/behavior while calling them a bit childish)

Something dark blue from somewhere behind the fairies kept him from continuing, the faintest recognition surfacing within his mind. But it disappeared before he could identify it.

What was that. . . ? It almost seemed familiar somehow. . . .

“And now the crown with the magic stone has been placed upon her head,” Azul pointed out, pulling Malleus out of his thoughts.

“Interesting,” Vil said. “They made that haute couture crown for the larger fairy. The gemstone color does match her dress nicely.”

“Is this really the time to do a fashion check?!” Crowley hissed.

Another figure approached the fairies, politely announcing her presence and prompting the golden fairy to turn around.

“Woah. . . .” Kalim breathed. “Look at that fairy’s wings! They’re huge!”

The group’s attention shifted to the very human-sized newcomer, and a small noise of surprise escaped Malleus.

It’s you. . . . He found his attention fixed onto her. She carried herself with grace as she spoke with the golden fairy. What more, her wings harbored that flicker of blue he had seen just moments ago. Even her hair was the same hue.

His eyes drifted from her wings to her serious expression. Why would she be here? Has she been invited to this assemblage? Or is there another reason?

TIL that I cannot legally register an ISBN for the Eng version of TMOWS

In the spirit of the new year, and trying to not let my procrastinating get the better of me, I tried to get the ISBN set and ready today for the launch of TMOWS in English, which I was planning for January 31st but uh...

Yeah turns out I can't do that. The thing is, the translation I did can be registered for an ISBN. Just not by me.

So as I'm figuring out, here in my country of dear good ol' Mexico I'm registered in a thing called Padrón Nacional de Editores, which is what allows me the ability to ask for an ISBN for my work (and trying to get registered there is what made the first registration for the Esp version such a frickin ordeal) BUT I registered in this Padrón as an author-editor. This means I can only register and/or ask for an ISBN for works that I'm self publishing that are original and primal, aka works that aren't derivative of others.

And as I'm figuring out, translations count as derivative work, since it's based on an original, primal work in another language. So, legally, I cannot register derivative works in the ISBN agency because I am an author-editor.

However I AM the translator for this version and I am ALSO the author of the original work, so technically I still retain the copyright for this version in Eng, AND I can also share it with others. Cause like, y'know. Most of the time you can't share unauthorized translations without the permission of the author but like, I am the author.

So while this means that I can't have an ISBN of a Eng version unless someone that's registered in the ISBN agency as a translator makes one, it also means that I'm gonna be able to share the one I did myself without doing the whole procedure I did for the Esp version, just convert it to a PDF and share it. In other words:

Good news!! The English version of The Monsters Only We See is coming January 14th, totally free to read!!!

I genuinely thought about keeping the original date of January 31st but honestly I don't see why. I want to get this out for others to see asap, mostly cause that will leave room for other things in my brain.

I'm gonna do a proper announcement in the next couple of days, but for now thanks for reading. NGL it does relieve me that I don't have to go and do all the payments for the ISBN registration.

actually based on my tags on the other post im going to talk about shu stepping down as leader maybe not in the DIRECTLY next event because it might even make sense for this story development to be another mika center?? but who knows im not the writers. but this almost feels like an important development to shu specifically at least to me

like valkyrie is obviously very important to shu, it is his creation and in the beginning it was entirely based on his aesthetics, his choreography, his designs, his lyrics, his everything, and it's still obviously his driving force but after meikyuu denshi kairou which SO heavily incorporates mika's aesthetics and his ideas its clear that the direction valkyrie is moving in is a valkyrie that they both contribute to equally

i think shu has been striving for this ever since he called mika his partner in art and told him he's not his doll anymore and he's been pushing mika to create on his own for the past like idk million valkyrie stories but this is such a new look and feel for them and it's clear that shu is embracing the idea that valkyrie is a partnership and it belongs to the both of them.

mika's ideal has always been shu and even as an artist he reveres the things he creates but he very clearly has his own ideas of what to create and where to take valkyrie and i think shu no longer being the leader will emphasize the fact that they are equals, and mika's ideal should always be to create things that he likes and his proud of and not just things that shu will be proud of him for

because shu will be proud of him regardless of whether or not he is trying to please him with his art!!! shu wants to see mika grow and become a confident and independent artist to stand alongside him, and with their individual independence i think it will strengthen them as a unit and as partners

and i think it's important for shu to almost give valkyrie to mika. not in the sense that he becomes the leader but in the sense that it now belongs to the both of them and they can both lead it in whatever direction they want to and they are there for each other and to nurture each other's creative endeavors

HEADCANONS - BLADE: WHAT'S IN A NAME?

this is just a quick thing i wanted to throw together because it's definitely something of importance for him, and will influence his responses to certain names in the context of interactions.

quite simply, blade is his name. this is the name he gave to himself, the name he answers to, the name he lives under. it is his identity. initially, this was a name chosen to represent the lack of humanity he regards himself with - he was a living weapon, and nothing more. however, over time (and with the insistence of those who seek to humanise him again) the name 'blade' has become more than just a label: it is who he is.

and names and titles are very important to him as a person. there is power in a name. as such, the topic of nicknames is a tricky one. to put it simply: blade refuses nicknames as a rule. there is only one exception to this, and only one person who can get away with it completely: kafka. the first to bestow upon him the incredibly humanising nickname of 'bladie'. (as a note: silver wolf sometimes gets away with it due to the bond between them, but not always).

should anyone else try to call him bladie, it will not be tolerated. ("call me that again and i'll be answering you with my sword" <- canon dialogue if TB calls him bladie).

and regarding his former name of y.ingxing: he no longers accepts this as his name because he is no longer that man. to him, they are separate people. he ceased to be y.ingxing when he became an abomination. only amongst the other members of the high cloud quintet will he answer to that name if it is spoken, but there is still a certain detachment to it.

additional note: i am undecided on whether or not i will ever use the name 'ren' (rèn) in regards to blade, but on one thing i am certain: if any character refers to him as ren without prior discussion, i am shutting that down immediately. whilst i understand that it is the chinese name and therefore "canon", i feel like there was a deliberate intention behind translating the name into english (as opposed to other x.ianzhou names) - calling him blade, giving him the name of an object, a tool, dehumanises him, which reflects his perception of himself. as such, i will stick only to blade for the foreseeable, and i ask that you respect that.

BECAUSE HIS CHARACTER FOCUSES ON HIS LOVE FOR HUMANITY AND THE WAY HE CARES IS QUITE WEIRD I KNOW BUT HE CARES IN HIS OWN VERITAS WAY. sorry.

ratio follows the path of the hunt, which means that he has a set goal that he works very hard to achieve, or at least wants to strive for. ratios goal is to eradicate ignorance from the universe. this can be gathered from not only his character stories, but also from his title. in the cn version of the game the doctor part of his title is the same term as that of a medical doctor, not someone who owns a/multiple doctorate(s). this means that he sees himself as a healer more than anything, and what he wants to heal humanity from primarily is ignorance.

he does this in multiple ways. firstly, in his ”acceptance test speech” (idfk what to call it, it’s in his character story 4) he expresses ”if ignorance is an ailment, it is the duty of scholars to weed it out and heal the universe.” this informs the other people in the intelligensia guild that they, too, should treat ignorance like a sickness that plauges humanity, thus taking the problem more seriously. secondly, (i don’t remember where i read this but i SWEAR on my life that it’s canon) he has mentioned before that the reason he is so ’mean’ is because he wants people to realize how stupid they are. it sounds awful, but he’s smarter than all of us so stay with me now. the reason he says that is because he knows the first step in learning something is accepting that you don’t know it, so he wants people to realize their foolishness in order for them to want to become smarter, thus making them forgo their ignorant tendencies. isn’t that amazing? look, i know if he was my teacher i’d be crying the first fucking lesson, but it’s still a good strategy imo. make people realize how dumb they are, making them want to not be dumb, making them solve the problem you hate so much.
