Asking this because, a lot of the big debate over AI art beyond the issues wrt labor displacement is "They didn't ask us if we wanted any part in this," especially with regards to current events.

And, for all I dislike the general Discourse, that's a reasonable feeling to feel, and I'm legit curious how many folks would have opted in if they did.

It's actually relevant to a thing that I think you'd be pleasantly surprised by, so stay tuned for that...

I think the payment details are used to reduce the instances of people creating new accounts each time a free trial ends.

But they should have an explicit opt-in for renewals. Worried about annoying customers? Make the choice part of the signup. And then send an email a few days before the trial ends (for those who didn't want to commit up-front)

It should 100% be illegal for companies to make you give them your payment information when you sign up for a free trial version of their product. It is not necessary and there is no good fucking reason for them to do it. It’s blatantly just so they can steal forgetful customers’ money.
