I return with some fun, low-effort Murder Drones doodles because that's the only thing I have the time and energy for right now (turns out moving to another state to escape day job hell and also the transphobia is A Very Involved Process).

I found a 80s Hasbro Maxie doll at the thrift store, wearing 80s Barbie clothes.

My hot take is she's a better doll than any of the 80s / 90s Barbies. Vintage Barbie gets so idolized by modern doll collectors and frankly I don't think she is deserving of it, she always had awful hair, weird feet, and often unstylish clothes. Maxie's hair is like a dream come true, still silky after all those years (might be nylon?).

I guess that is in part why 80s Barbie is now admired, because 80s clothes of course looked very dated AFTER the 80s. So by not wearing them . . . she has more universal appeal. (I mean, some Barbie did have 80s clothes, like this California Dream outfit, but the poofy gowns and bright pink business suits were like "no occasion" clothes. Honestly anything extremely pink was not likely to be fashionable in the 80s, unless it was neon pink surrounded by neon blue and green.)

But that is also why Bratz destroyed Barbie in the early 2000s, the Bratz wore clothes in-fashion for the 2000s and Barbie didn't.

Anyway, I think Maxie could have been successful but of course Mattel sued Hasbro over her and that was that. I do think her name is extremely foolish, since the main word association with "maxie" in the 80s would be "maxi pad", aka a menstrual pad. (I dunno if people still call them that today?) She was probably named by a man.

This spring I went to a local doll convention for the first time. And I felt kinda guilty because it was advertised online as a doll "show" but was clearly actually a sale, so I was just walking around gawking at everything with no intention of buying. 🫣

But MAN was it full of delightful weirdos and rejects... I especially enjoyed the creepy baby doll with the spidery eye cracks... absolutely wretched

Ian’s heart kicks in his chest, a jolt of fear spiking through him, and his head swims. It’s like he’s back inside the dark theatre he’d been in all week. Mickey’s words are nothing but unfamiliar sounds.

If he’s gonna go to the movies, he might as well get a snack.

He grabs a pizza roll from the plate in front of him and pops it in his mouth. But when he bites down, the inevitable happens.

“Fuck,” he garbles, the sauce piping hot and burning his mouth.

Ian doubles over, in pain and embarrassed. He really should’ve known better.

“Jesus Christ,” Mickey huffs, standing up and leaving the room.

Ian opens his inferno of a mouth, hoping the air of the room will cool down the masticated snack. Thankfully, by the time he hears the familiar sound of a beer cap being popped off, he’s able to swallow.

Mickey returns, bottle in hand. He offers it to Ian. “S’all we got.”

Ian takes it, grateful as the icy liquid chills his charred throat. “All you got, huh? Even juvie’s got jello.”

“What d’you know about juvie, Gallagher?”

Mickey’s squint makes Ian’s chest constrict.

“What d’you know about me, Milkovich?”
