author's note : again, i'm so sorry for posting so rarely, working and planning a wedding has to be the most exhausting thing ever, i promise to go through all of your requests and to be more present, tysm for your support ♡౨ৎ⋆.˚ some of these scenarios have been inspired by moments i often think about in my life, can you guess which hahaha??

zoro was smitten with you, and longed taking a step forward in your camaraderie, and everyone with a pair of eyes could see it. so when nami told him he was on errand duty with you and only you today, the swordsman knew it was his shot to get closer to you.

gosh, you were gorgeous walking around the alleys with the wind blowing your hair and diffusing your hypnotizing scent. and there he was, walking by your side like a guard dog with his hands the pockets of his jacket, listening to your enchanting voice.

the errands were nearly coming to an end, and zoro did not dare to "make a move", which he knew he would regret. the alleys got more crowded and he was afraid to lose you, especially since his orientation is not the best, though his senses would always bring him back to you. he knew that.

as zoro listened to you and internally debated on whether he should say something about his feelings or not, his body acted on his own, finally closing the distance.

as he gently grabbed your left hand with his right one, intertwined his fingers with yours, before putting both of his hand and yours in his right pocket, acting like it was the most natural gesture on earth.

and the butterflies in your stomach never died since.

luffy has always brought joy to your life and fed your desire for adventures and fun. he lit stars to your world and invited you to let go of pressure and have fun, not minding about third parties' opinions. a lot of people would question your couple association because of luffy's exuberance, but all them be damned. the future king of the pirates brought you back to life and no one could make you happier.

a sudden rain came down pouring on the grand line and the wind blew hard. the entire crew started running around to put back inside the furnitures that were left outside. the rain was so much that it started freezing and you started to run to your quarters. yet, as you were about to finally reach your door, a pair of elastic arms grabbed you and brought you back outside under the pouring rain, their owner sporting a huge, bright grin on his face.

"luffy!!! what the hell are you doing? it's raining and we'll catch a cold!!"

"chichichi, i wanted to dance with you, (y/n)!" he beamed, his eyes adoringly pleading yours to allow his antics as he started twirling you around under the pouring rain.

between laughters only him could exulate, you tried to bring him back to his senses.

"but luffy, honey, we can't dance under the rain! it's cold and there's no music playing!"

luffy did not mind your ramblings as he kept on twirling you around, his hand standing on your the small of your back the whole time, his thumb occasionnaly drawing circles. with a determined gaze and his signature smile on his face, he pressed his forehead on yours, the rain drops falling from his nose to your lips from the closeness.

"together, there's nothing that we can't do (y/n). after all, i'm the future king of the pirates!!"

his laughter hugged the atmosphere and made your heart race even more.

your relationship with law was a secret on the submarine, and it was hard for you to hide your adoration for your boyfriend. after all, what wasn't there to love? law was smart, composed, mature and commited. yet, sometimes, it felt so easy for him to "ignore" your status in front of the crew or anyone for that matter, which tended to hurt your heart. did law appreciate you the way you did? was it unrequited?

little did you know, law had a hard time not paying as much attention as he would when with the others. because he had a lot of work, even when the others were not around, it did not mean the two of you could see each other. therefore, the soft gestures he wished to cover you with were quite lacking. and of course, he was the one to have asked to keep the relationship a secret, and because of his prideful persona, he would not admit it was not a good idea.

you and bepo were getting ready to work around the submarines for your chores of the day. you were busy going around the submarine with your chores tool and bepo, and failed to notice your shoe laces came undone.

and of course, this would not go unnoticed by law. the captain could not stop himself from going to you with a frown, which surprised (and scared) both of you and bepo.

is there anything you did wrong? why was he looking so pissed off?

"idiot. you could trip and injure yourself." your boyfriend sternly spoke, kneeling to the floor to tie your shoe-lace, leaving bepo dumbfounded and yourself out of breath, with a racing heartbeat.

"you know i don't want you to get hurt." he said getting up, his hot breath tickling your cheek in the process, his warm hand resting on yours, silently promising to show his adoration for you like you deserve.

and you swore you could still feel the warmth of his hand from that day again.

It was currently November, though it all started in July, or so you think. Least, that’s when you first started noticing the signs. Who knows exactly how long this whole affair has been going on.

Gray November, I’ve been down since July.

Your whole body felt heavy due to all the bottled up anger, sadness, and despair you kept inside, selfishly trying to keep yourself alive amongst all the chaos and denial you dealt with daily.

It was the night before the 4th of July, you recall. You were supposed to meet up at the movies to watch the third installment of your shared all time favorite franchise. A movie that you booked tickets for together months in advance. Only to be left in the dark room all alone, the only light illuminated from the projector. Glancing down at your phone that emitted a soft glow, you let out a quiet sigh of discontent not wanting to disturb fellow movie goers around you.

From Husband:

Sorry y/n, won’t be able to make it. This meeting is going on for way longer than expected. I’ll see you at home later, don’t wait up for me, okay? Save me some popcorn, though! Can’t wait to hear all about it! Love you.

That should’ve been your first red flag.

Not that he left you to watch the movie alone, but yes, that sucked. He’s done it before, though. When you know for a fact he was caught up in a meeting, or so you hoped, thinking back on it now.

No. No, it was a detail that no one would’ve picked up on besides you, and in fact, most people would just scoff at and say you were over reacting. He was probably in a rush to send that text, they would say. He didn’t have time. Yeah, okay. Sure, whatever. But you knew.

Especially since you made a pact not too long after you started dating that you would use your pet names instead of your actual names when addressing each other. Or, not so much a pact, but more so just an unspoken rule you developed out of a daily habitual use of said pet names. He literally hasn’t called you by your name in years.

I replay my footsteps on each stepping stone, trying to find the one where I went wrong.

It was engraved in you since you were a little girl to be the ever doting, ever loyal, ever loving, ever faithful wife. Whenever you so chose to be one. Lord knows you were never in a rush. In fact, it wasn’t until you hit your 5 year anniversary that he got down on one knee and popped the question. Yet, you were still surprised when it happened. Still not expecting it for another 5 years later, at the very least. But, Kim Taehyung had other plans it seems. Ever the hopeless romantic, you should’ve known. Him always being the one to talk about your future together, hinting at a wedding and a big family with a little dog. At least you were able to cross off two of those, you thought bitterly. Contrary to the gentle pats you were currently giving to the Teacup Pom, Yeontan.

As the months progressed, he became less subtle. The lipstick stains on his collar of a color that didn’t exist in your make up collection, the waft of perfume you would smell as he kissed your cheek upon coming home that you knew wasn’t yours. And yet, you were still in denial. Not willing to risk losing him, your heart suffered instead.

Writing letters, addressed to the fire.

The only solace you had, being to write out your aggression of the day onto a piece of paper that would then meet the kiss of fire you would ignite nightly in your fireplace and burn, each time hoping and praying for it to cleanse your head and heart along with it.

It never worked. And you always cried silent tears of misery so as not to wake your peacefully sleeping husband curled up with the Teacup Pom in the next room over who came back from yet another late night out.

You never thought you would end up here. Being that wife that would become the gossip of other fellow wives. Becoming the ever pining wife that would stand alone in the dark at two o’clock in the morning looking out the window and waiting for your husband to come home. Craving his words and his touch. Knowing you weren’t currently getting either of those. She was. Whoever she is. You had no clue.

And I was catching my breath. Staring out an open window….

You stared longingly at your husband who just pulled up in the driveway. Yeontan running around your feet in excitement upon recognizing the sound of his human’s car. As he went to step out of the car, an article of clothing fell out, one he was quick to recover and throw in the backseat. More importantly one that was very obviously, not yours. Looking around to see if he had been caught, he locked eyes with you in the window. His widening in guilt, yours crying unrelentless tears as you stared emotionlessly, arms crossed over your chest where your heart just broke for the last and final time.

Arcade should have figured Swank would tattle on him when he finally decided to stay at the Tops, but somehow, he’s still surprised when Benny returns to his room early. The intentionally soft closing of the door and quiet steps make him smile slightly, letting out a soft sigh after Benny carefully climbs into his bed and wraps his arm around his middle.

“Damn, Baby, Swank said you’d be asleep by now,” Benny comments, his voice lower than usual.

Arcade shifts slightly so Benny can press his face against his neck, his clean shaven face gliding across Arcade’s skin with ease. “Well, I finally decided to come stay with you and even I can acknowledge that falling asleep immediately would be pretty rude,” he responds, letting out a soft breath as his partner begins kissing at his neck.

“Really? You stayed awake for me?”

“No, I have issues sleeping and Swank left to tell you immediately after bringing me to your room, I didn’t have nearly enough time to fall asleep.”

Benny chuckles at that, slipping his hand under Arcade’s shirt and flattening his hand against his lower stomach. “What finally made you break? I thought you and your boss were gonna be Goodsprings for a while.”

“Six wanted to head out to Nipton and bring Boone along with them, and I hate waiting around the Lucky 38 for them to come back.”

“Oh, so you’re not here for me? Just need a better bed and change of pace?”

“I thought I’d get a bit of privacy, but it looks like I lost that gamble,” Arcade says with a soft huff, gently bumping his shoulder against Benny. The man obeys the silent request, moving back a bit so Arcade can roll onto his back and moving closer once he’s settled again.

“Sorry, but you rolled snake eyes on that one, Baby. Maybe you’ll have better luck next time, especially now that you’ve broken Ol’ Benny’s heart.”

The sniffles are audible, and while he could do without them, it’s times like this that Arcade appreciates his boyfriend’s overdramatic nature. Even though he’s nearsighted to the point that Benny makes fun of how big his eyes look when he has his glasses on and it’s dark enough in here for him to barely be able to make out Benny’s silhouette, he still knows exactly what the other man is doing. He makes it obvious and he knows it’s hard for Arcade to ignore it when it’s silent otherwise.

After about ten seconds of sniffling and oddly timed breaths, Arcade lets out an exasperated sigh. “Get your layers off, I don’t like it when your buttons press against me. They’re too hard and it’s uncomfortable,” he grumbles, trying to make it seem like he’s doing Benny a favor even though he knows his dopamine levels are rising too.

Benny is quick to get out of bed again, trying his best to avoid wrinkling his clothes as he shuffles over to a nearby chair and settles them over the back of it. He slides his shoes under the chair to avoid either of them tripping on them if they have to get up without the lights. While he undresses, he decides to shoot a response back at the doctor in an attempt to continue their banter, “Yeah, I know you’d rather have something else that’s hard pressed against your-“

Arcade cuts him off before he can finish, sliding under the blankets and turning to face the wall. “Goodnight, Benjamin.”

“Not without a goodnight kiss, it won’t be,” he responds with a huff, upset that his attempt just failed, but confident that a future attempt will work.

“Hurry up, then, I’ve been on my feet walking across the Mojave all day, I want to get some well deserved rest.”

“I’m working as fast as I can, but you know how finicky these old things can be.”

When the buttons are finally all open and he’s free of his fabric prison, Benny moves back towards the bed, nailing his shin on the wooden frame in the process, but still pushing through. He climbs back in the bed, maneuvering carefully to avoid hurting or disturbing Arcade too much and curling up behind him. He props himself up on his elbow, making a kissing sound with his lips, “Come on, Baby, it’s time to hold up your end of the deal.”

“I thought you told Six something about the game being rigged from the start,” Arcade muses, not moving an inch.

Benny lets out a small grunt before placing his hand on Arcade’s waist and sliding it up his torso and neck. He grasps his jaw once he reaches it, carefully turning his head so he can access his lips and pressing a kiss against them, chaste, but not lacking a playful nip at his bottom lip.

“Have a good night, Doll,” he says as he finally relaxes on the bed and presses his chest flush against Arcade’s back. He even goes so far as to wrap his arms around his middle, effectively trapping him there.

Even though he knows that - all things considered - he should feel like his life is in danger, Arcade relaxes into the touch, sighing softly and moving one of his hands down to gently hold one of Benny’s. “Goodnight, Benny.”

A/N ok so was supposed to be writing my valentines piece but then remembered it was a certain someone's birthday,,, so here is my birthday piece for jeongin! i always get intimated by writing for birthdays bc i feel like it needs to be fluffy but i’m so awful at that so instead i’m writing about my current obsession lmao 

Yang Jeongin, a weak teenager in highschool. Small and scrawny, easy to be picked on by boys who hit puberty early. Y/N L/N, a new student at the local school. Left out and lonely by popular girls with their cliques. 

Yang Jeongin, the first friend you made in highschool. The first one to reach for you and offer you a helping hand. The first boy you kiss. The first boy you loved. You found yourself at home with him, both in your heart and quite literally as your roommate. 

Despite only renting with him, it was still your first home. The first place you could call your own and Jeongin was there with you every step of the way. The both of you were still young, he was still a small teenage boy and you were still a naive love sick girl. 

He held you in his pale arms, tighter than what was comfortable for you but you lay in peace allowing him to do so. It was his way of saying I love you.

You sang to him as he held you, it was off key and pitchy but he listened anyway. It was your way of saying I love you. 

That day it happened was an awful awful day. You witnessed men eat each other. Making eye contact with them showed you the hunger of the gods that they were cursed with. An everlasting ditch in their stomachs that made them ravenous. It took the light that Jeongin held in his eyes to ease the panic in your soul. The truck he drove out of the city was enough to keep you safe for now. 

Yang Jeongin, a man obsessed with proving himself. Muscles built and scarred, proving to others how strong he was during this madness. Y/N L/N, a lost woman who turned to helping others. The smell of alcohol and the prick of needles taking up her days

Yang Jeongin, the only friend you had during the chaos that the world was currently in. The only one to help you and care for you wounds after days of helping others. The only one you ever cried to. The only boy who ever saw you bleed. 

Despite the loneliness of the apocalypse and your desperate need for company, specifically Jeongins company, you found his trips lasted longer. His returns becoming shorter. Bit by bit you watched him break down and leave you. The both of you were no longer young, he was now a rugged man who went through war everyday to fight for your survival but you were still naive, convinced that one day this would all get better.

He screamed at you, made you cry if it meant you would stay home and not put yourself in danger. It was his way of saying I love you.

You begged for him not to leave but when he did, you would wait for him like a child despite the abuse he put you through. It was your way of saying I love you. 

The next awful day in your life was the day he told you he was leaving for good. A new organisation came up that promised the saviour of humanity. But you knew what these ‘forces for good’ did to people. It was just a way for egomaniacs to get free labour out of lost souls. Without much thought he packed and left you alone. Nothing could keep you safe now.

Yang Jeongin, a man consumed by blood lust. He was convinced what he was doing was for the greater good, in reality it was only benefiting those above him.  Y/N L/N, a wandering  woman consumed by heart break. Each day she walked til her legs gave out, desperate to find the one she lost. 

Yang Jeongin, the last face you’ll ever see. The last person to touch you, to feel your skin while it was still warm. The last person who will ever hear your screams. The only boy who ever made you bleed. 

 Despite the relationship you once had with him, here he was, standing over you. The barrel of a gun stared down at you. His once loving hand held it to your head. His beautiful face was covered by fabric to hide who he was. But you tell who he was from a mile away. You thought he would have recognized you as well. Yet he shot at you anyway, across the field from where you began to enter his campground. Even bleeding out you felt a sense of security as he approached you, he would realise his mistake and help you. 

You soon discovered he was only there to finish the job. 

He didn’t say a word, only shaking his head in disappointment as you lay on the ground below him, bleeding into the earth. It was his way of saying you should’ve stayed where he left you.

You silently begged for him to change his mind. Tears flowing harder than they ever had. The apocalypse, the killings, it had changed it beyond the point of recognition. You don’t think he even knew who he was anymore. You reached forward and pushed the gun against your forehead. It was your way of saying I forgive you for what has to be done.

Best moves in the offseason:

Generally, the idea this offseason is don't bet the farm. The cap is going to jump next year. Wait it out. Here are my picks for top GMs:

- Fitz (Devils). Toffoli for Shango and-a-third (the third he got from Sevo's sign and trade)? Meier 8x8.8? Bratter 8x7.875? Even the small acquisitions like Colin Miller (for a fucking FIFTH!) are great. Pinching pennies and trading only expendable pieces. Yeah, I'm a homer, so what?

- Zito (Panthers). There was a need (defense), he addressed it. Mikkola, Rodrigues, even Lorentz and Stolarz. Didn't blow the bank and got what needed to be done done.

- Davidson (Blackhawks). Yes, fuck the Hawks for being racist and for the Beach scandal, but you gotta give it to Davidson, who maneuvered to acquire a bunch of vets from cap-strapped teams for next to nothing and sign them to short-term deals for Bedard to learn from. Foligno, Hall, Perry, all for a single seventh??? Oh, and they drafted Bedard. That helps too.

As for what Fitzy's on... I assume speed.

Okay, so the goalie sitch: Vitek is confirmed in the NHL. We need one more NHL goalie, plus one goalie we can call up in case of injury (ideally two).

Akira is really young for an NHL goalie - he's just turned 22 recently, and, among NHL goalies, only one has had more than 10 starts in 22-23 and is under 22. That's Spencer Knight, who's 21. You do have some young goalies who are rising prospects, such as Levi (also 21), Dostal (22), Sogaard (22), UPL (23), Kochetkov (23).

What sets Akira apart is his high save% compared to them. In 22-23, Knight had a .901, Levi had a .901, Dostal had a .901, Sogaard had a .889, UPL had a .891, even Kochetkov, rising goalie phenom, "only" had a .909. Akira had a .922. StatMuse shows this percentage as fourth in the ENTIRE NHL (for 15+ games played), only behind Vezina winner Ullmark, Gustavsson, and Sorokin. Also reassuring - he posted a .921 in the playoffs (an astounding .950 in the first round... and a less-than-stellar .874 in the second).

That being said, Akira has a low sample size to pull from. In 21-22, our Year of the Seven Goalies, he lost every game he played and posted a .833. And goalies, as we are all aware, are voodoo. It's entirely possible that he regresses back to a .850 player. Do I think it's going to happen? Haha no. But still.

Kochetkov is set for another year of third-stringing behind Andersen and Raanta. Fitz might want something similar for Akira, trying to bring Hellebuyck in without giving up Vanecek and attempting to roll Helle/VV this year - I find this relatively implausible because of our cap situation plus the idea that Helle would be mentoring Schmid if anything. The other option is he's looking for a free agent goalie (Stalock? Jones?) for a one-year contract to act as a stopgap. Remember, Nico Daws is injured until Christmas and likely won't be performing well until February. Kallgren is fourth-string, realistically. The issue with a free agent second goalie is that it would likely force Vitek to make many more starts - and his quality begins to decline after game 40 or so. This is why Devils fans are mostly all advocating for Akira and VV to be the starting tandem. We just need a good third-stringer for injuries. I heard Nashville is accepting calls on Askarov...

One last note - Akira also has a "fuck this shit carry time" factor, where he generally plays ten times better when someone else playing in net before him fucks it up (see: Blackwood game 82, Vitek against the Rangers). It's a real thing. Who knows if Fitz isn't simply trying to light a fire under Akira to train even harder this offseason.

I posted about a writing challenge that I joined last week. I procrastinated for a good amount of time, but I'm happy to say that I hit the goal in the end.

Now, I have three flash pieces that I'm pretty happy about. And I certainly want to write more.

The Stories

Here's a little more about how I wrote these stories, in case it might inspire someone.

Story #1

The first one I wrote is about dating in the age of advanced AI — a cyberpunk romance of sorts. It ended up being 1,288 words — perhaps a little long for a flash piece. I might either cut it down or expand it to about 2k and turn it into a short story.

This was probably my strongest idea. There's a twist in it quite early. As I worked on it, I changed the planned ending and put in another twist that felt like a good fit.

Writing this story took about 2 hours and 20 minutes across two sessions.

Story #2

The inspiration for the second story came from a place — this narrow street passage behind a police station that I walk down on my way to work. I remember the street making an impression on me when I walked through there for the first time a long time ago.

The idea hit me as soon as I walked through that street last week on my way to work, and I wrote it down pretty much exactly as it came to me.

This story ended up being 889 words. It took me about 1 hour and 33 minutes to write it.

Story #3

This was one of those ideas I had in my mind for a long time. This time, the inspiration came from a name. This fairly uncommon but not outlandish name caught my attention, and I built a character around it.

Who would the character be? What would he do and why? Some names are associated with expectations. For example, naming a burly bodybuilder type of guy Ashley is bound to create an interesting story dynamic.

Then came the other characters in the story and a rudimental plot to prop up the character development. It ended up being a ghost story of sorts, although the ghost isn't the main point.

Lessons Learned

I've been meaning to start writing short stories and flash again regularly. Short stories and even just little snippets of narrative are a fantastic way to experiment. It's a great way to get your storytelling reps in.

Finishing those three little stories gave me a lot of satisfaction that I haven't experienced in a while.

I finished late, so I didn't have time to submit those stories to Fractured. Perhaps I'll publish them here on the blog sometime.

And finally: I don't think I would've written these stories had I not joined the challenge. Thanks to jshawng for setting it up! External accountability works. Use it to your advantage.

I might make this type of challenge a weekly event. I'm unsure what would be the best structure, but I will figure something out.

Sometimes I feel like I see Palpatine on a different level to other people.

Like you can laugh that, after Vader vents his spleen in the last episode of Obi Wan, that all he says is "you seem agitated". No shit, you think.

And yet, maybe it's because I'm British, or maybe I just overthink this bad boi, or maybe I'm not getting people's humour, but this is exactly how master teachers, how powerful bosses, the ones who rule with barely a raised voice and brow, manage dissent, manage tantrums, be it a classroom or a staff or a single Chosen One. They drop hints, little warnings, and suddenly you go "oh shit, we pissed off the powerful one" and stfu. I've always felt Palps is like this with Vader. Every now and then he drops a little reminder, a piece of innocuous, maybe almost pointless code, just to remind Vader to wind his fucking neck in, and make him remember who it was who truly made him. Because Palps is a powerhouse. And we don't need to see force lightning every time to be reminded of this.
