The night was quiet, save for the distant sound of the sea lapping against the shore. A warm breeze drifted through the open window, carrying the scent of salt and wildflowers into the chamber. Kalliope sat before her polished bronze mirror, running a brush through her long, dark hair. The rhythmic motion was soothing, yet her thoughts refused to settle. It had been days since she had last seen her.
Glaphyra.
The name alone sent a soft ache through her chest. It was ridiculous, really—she barely knew her. And yet, the absence of the shy girl had unsettled her more than she cared to admit. Kalliope wasn’t one to pine, wasn’t one to let her heart be so easily swayed, and yet… Glaphyra. She had been so quiet, so hesitant, yet utterly captivating in her own way.Kalliope let out a breath, setting her brush down.
She had spent her life surrounded by men who sought power, by warriors who fought with blades and words alike. And yet, the thought of Glaphyra’s gentle voice, her uncertain smile, her soft glances from beneath her lashes—those were the things that lingered in Kalliope’s mind. She met her own gaze in the mirror, lips pressing together.
"What is happening to me?"
The flicker of candlelight cast strange shadows across her reflection. And then—A shimmer. The air shifted, growing warmer, heavier with a presence unseen but unmistakable. Kalliope’s fingers tightened around the edge of her vanity as a voice, smooth as honey and rich with power, curled through the room.
"Ah, my dear Kalliope… I see your thoughts have been wandering."Kalliope didn’t startle. She knew this presence, had felt it before in whispers, in moments of inexplicable longing.
Slowly, she turned, her pulse quickening as her eyes met the figure standing just behind her. Aphrodite. The goddess of love and desire stood bathed in the golden glow of the candlelight, her beauty impossible, otherworldly. Her hair cascaded in soft waves, her robes flowing like liquid silk.
But it was her eyes—deep and knowing—that sent a shiver through Kalliope’s spine. "You call upon me without meaning to,"
Aphrodite mused, stepping forward with the grace of a panther. "Your heart stirs, and so I come."
Kalliope swallowed, lifting her chin. "I did not call you, goddess."
Aphrodite merely smiled, leaning down slightly, her fingers trailing along the vanity’s surface. "Oh, but you did. Every stolen glance, every sigh in the quiet of the night, every thought that lingers when it should have passed… That is a prayer, sweet one."
Kalliope exhaled slowly, willing her heartbeat to steady. "It is just a passing thought," she said, though even to her own ears, the words sounded weak.
Aphrodite tsked, tilting her head. "A passing thought does not set your soul alight, Kalliope. You long for her." The words hit like a perfectly aimed arrow.
Kalliope clenched her jaw, but Aphrodite only laughed softly, reaching out to trail a fingertip along Kalliope’s bare shoulder. "Do not fight it, child. Love is a force far greater than any blade, any army. And it has chosen you."
Kalliope hesitated. "She—" Her throat felt tight. "She is not like me. She is soft, hesitant…"
"And yet you cannot stop thinking about her." Kalliope looked down, her fingers curling into her lap.
Aphrodite leaned closer, her breath warm against Kalliope’s ear. "She wonders about you too, you know."
Kalliope’s breath hitched. She lifted her gaze, eyes locking onto the goddess’s reflection in the mirror. "She does?"
Aphrodite only smiled. "You will see her soon, my dear. But when you do… do not let fear keep you from taking what is already yours."
And just like that, the warmth faded, the air stilled, and when Kalliope turned, the goddess was gone. Only the scent of roses lingered in the room.

Thank You for letting me live for a little as one of the sane; thank You for letting me know what this is like. Thank You for letting me look at your frightening blue sky without fear, and your terrible world without terror, and your loveless psychotic and hopelessly lost with this love.

୨୧┇THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTINGGG
Tumblr media
𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓹𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓯𝓲𝓯𝓽𝓮𝓮𝓷
The halls of Ithaca’s palace echoed with tense murmurs as servants hurried past, sensing the charged atmosphere brewing between two men who had never been anything but adversaries. Vairya leaned against a marble pillar, arms crossed, golden earrings glinting in the torchlight. He looked entirely at ease, though a sharp glint in his eyes betrayed his amusement.
Antinous, on the other hand, stood rigid with anger, fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. His breathing was heavy, his dark eyes alight with barely restrained fury. “What the hell have you done to my sister?” Antinous spat, voice seething with rage.
Vairya barely raised an eyebrow, his smirk deepening. “Oh? You’ll have to be more specific. I’ve done a lot of things lately.”
Antinous took a step forward, the air between them thick with hostility. “Glaphyra,” he snapped. “Pandora told me everything—she’s been spending time with Kalliope. Your sister.” He sneered at the word, as if it were an insult. “And I know exactly who to blame for this.”
Vairya sighed dramatically, pushing off the pillar with a lazy grace. “I wasn’t aware I had control over Glaphyra’s heart. If she likes Kalliope, I’d say it’s because your sister has taste.” He shrugged. “Unlike you.”
Antinous’s jaw tightened, his teeth grinding audibly. “She’s my sister,” he growled. “And I don’t trust your family. I won’t let her be tangled in whatever web you’re spinning.”
Vairya’s amusement flickered, his smile turning sharp. “Your concern is touching, truly. But you should know by now that no one—especially not your sister—needs your permission to make choices for themselves.”
Antinous lunged first.A fist flew toward Vairya, but he dodged smoothly, stepping back with an almost lazy air. “Oh, we’re doing this?” he said, laughing as if he were merely indulging a child.
But Antinous was not a child. He was furious. He swung again, this time catching Vairya’s shoulder, pushing him back a step. But before Antinous could press his advantage, Vairya retaliated.Faster than Antinous expected, Vairya slammed his forearm into Antinous’s chest, sending him stumbling back.
Then, with a flicker of speed, he grabbed the front of Antinous’s tunic and yanked him forward, their faces inches apart. “For the record,”
Vairya murmured, voice laced with venom, “I don’t give a damn about your opinion on my sister. But you? You’re a spoiled, arrogant little parasite who clings to Telemachus’s family like a leech, thinking you’re entitled to everything.”
Antinous snarled and shoved him off. “And you’re a smug bastard who thinks he’s better than everyone else just because you swing a sword well. You slithered into Telemachus’s life like a disease—” The moment he said Telemachus’s name, Vairya snapped.
His punch came so fast Antinous barely had time to react. It connected with his jaw, sending him staggering back against a pillar. A dull crack echoed through the hall as Antinous hit the marble.
Before he could recover, Vairya grabbed him by the collar again, voice low and deadly. “You don’t get to speak his name like that.”
Antinous wiped the blood from his lip, glaring up at Vairya. “Oh? Did I touch a nerve? That pathetic little prince means that much to you?”
Vairya yanked him forward again, his grip bruising. “You have tormented Telemachus for years,” he hissed, “and the only reason I haven’t broken every bone in your body is because he still sees you as salvageable. But I don’t.”
Antinous grinned, his bloodied teeth showing. “Then do it. If you want to play the hero so badly, hit me again.”Vairya’s fist twitched, his whole body screaming to oblige.
But—Telemachus. He exhaled sharply and let go, shoving Antinous backward with enough force to send him stumbling. “You’re not worth it.” Antinous spat blood onto the floor and sneered.
“Maybe not. But we’ll see if Telemachus agrees.” Vairya clenched his fists, his nails biting into his palms. He wanted to end this. To silence Antinous forever.
But then, from down the corridor, a familiar voice rang out. “What’s going on here?”Telemachus.
The tension snapped taut like a bowstring as the prince approached. His gaze flicked between them, eyes narrowing at the bruises already forming.
Antinous smirked, wiping his jaw. “Ask your lover,” he said, voice smug. “He’s the one who threw the first punch.”
Vairya didn’t even blink. “And I’d do it again.”
Telemachus let out a sharp sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Both of you. Leave.”
Vairya exhaled, casting one last glare at Antinous before turning on his heel. “Gladly.”
As he walked away, he felt Telemachus’s eyes on him, but he didn’t turn back.Antinous’s words still burned in his mind. This wasn’t over.
