You ever have a dream and something out of it show up for real when you awake? It's so trippy when that happens! I woke this morning knowing I had a dream soundtracked by the Cyndi Lauper song "I Drove All Night" because it flooded my mind instantly like it had been in there for some time. I can't even recall when I had last heard or thought about that song when conscious. I get on Spotify later to listen to music for the first time today, and its AI DJ randomly chooses that very song to start me out. I was kinda freaked out by it too 😅

I can't sleep and not to be every young adult ever but i'm thinking about love and music and getting emotional!

"i drove all night (to get to you)" makes me cry because when they announced the COVID lockdown in the UK in 2020 it was not clearly worded, and my parents and I thought that it meant that effective immediately, nobody was allowed to travel. and I was living 4 hours drive away from my parents at university at that time. it was about 8 or 9pm when they made that announcement, and my parents called me immediately to let me know they were worried. my dad had been up since 7 and worked a full day, he got in his car immediately to drive 4 hours one way to come and get me. i packed up my entire room, and my dad got to me at about 2am. we drove all the way back home again and kept each other awake with me on the aux cord and talking to each other (side note I love talking to my dad on long drives so much) and the sun was just rising as we got home at around 6am.

anyway, about two years later my mother played that song for me and she told me "that's your father's proudest parenting moment, driving all that way to get you in the middle of the night because he thought you'd be trapped on your own." and I have a very calm but relaxed british dad who's love language is acts of service, so he'd never tell me that himself, but my mother always uses words so now I know. and maybe that song doesn't perfectly describe the situation but hearing it just makes me think of how much my dad loves me and how my mum told me that to make sure I knew, and how she was so proud and happy that she associated a song to it. I'm just a little emotional today but yknow what that's okay!!

The worst one of this is "I Drove All Night" because there is actual debate about which version IS the original.

The song was written for Roy Orbison, and he recorded it in 1987, but it wasn't released. Cyndi Lauper then recorded it in 1989 and charted with it. Orbison's version was released after his death, in 1992. So Orbison recorded it first while Lauper released it first. So it depends on your definition of "first." Generally, the Lauper version is considered the OG since it was the first version heard by the public or released on a label.

Just as long as you're not out here saying Celine's version is the OG.

(btw "I Drove All Night" is one of the greatest songs in pop history and pretty much all the versions of it slap in different ways}
