These are the prompts for Nightshade Week 2024!

The event has three themes: Headspace for fluffier and happier prompts, Whitespace for thematic prompts, and Blackspace for darker and angstier prompts. You can pick whichever suits you best, mix and match, or do your own thing.

Nightshade Week 2024 will run from Monday 25 November until Sunday 1 December.

How do I pick prompts?

You're free to use and interpret the prompts however you want. You don't have to do all the prompts, you can skip days, you can mix prompts, you can do prompts on different days, etc. If you want, you can also simply submit some Nightshade fanworks that don't follow any prompts. This event is all about celebrating Nightshade and creating new things for it together.

What content will be shared by the account?

This event is accessible to all ages. While canon compliant dark themes and gore are allowed, any works with sexually explicit content won't be shared by the account for this reason.

Do I have to complete every day or follow one category?

Not at all! You can do one day or all days. You can do one path or all paths. You don't have to follow a set path either; the categories are just there to give the prompts themes. You can do for example one Headspace prompt, two Whitespace prompts, and four Blackspace prompts. Mix and match as you see fit!

Can I submit late entries?

Late entries are definitely welcome! After the event has ended, I will still regularly check the tag and share late entries.

Can I add other characters and ships to my fanworks?

Go wild! The main focus should be on nightshade in order for it to be shared, but other characters and ships (including other Omori or Stranger ships) can be depicted as well.

Do my entries have to follow canon?

Nope! You can work within any canon you want, so long as the characters featured focus on Omori and Stranger in some way. You want to do the entirety of the week for an AU where they're real people? Go wild!

Can I make platonic works too?

Absolutely! All dynamics are celebrated here.

🎁-- Hero & Kel Brotherly Angst Headcanon

Hero barely remembers the first birthday he had after losing Mari. That entire time of his life was a dark blur and his passing birthday, proof that the world somehow kept going even without Mari in it, was certainly not something he felt like celebrating. Hero was so lost in his own grief, however, that he didn't realize that Kel couldn't stand the thought of his brother not celebrating his birthday.

Kel used some of his own leftover Christmas money to buy Hero a cupcake at the Other Mart. When he tried to give it to him, however, Hero merely mumbled that he wasn't hungry and buried himself even deeper in his covers. Kel set the cupcake on the nightstand by Hero's bed in case he wanted it later; then watched as it sat there forgotten for nearly two weeks--growing old and stale until eventually it was quietly, unceremoniously thrown away.

The Setting Sun

       The smell of joy was in the air. Aubrey and Basil were eating cookies and pasta on the ground, sitting on the large blanket – identical to the one they used with Mari. Hero sat closely next to the basket, you could tell he misses Mari – a lot, might I add –, but he’s moved on and got with a girl from his college. Kel, however, breathed in the air less today. Sunny came to visit. Kel would usually celebrate, have a good laugh, and totally not act off his big-ass crush on Sunny. But this morning when Sunny arrived was less than the usual; this morning he and Sunny had a little disagreement. It wasn’t big, they’re currently next to each other as they eat, and Kel talks about the game for next week. But it feels off. He feels as if someone now knows exactly how many cracks are actually in his act.

Sunny, of course, fell quiet. But it hadn’t felt neutral to him, it felt judgy – judgy to Kel. But the young boy had to let it go, his best friend/crush was home, and he couldn’t let it go to waste. 

So he did. He let it rest in the back of his mind – a concealed tattoo.

As for later that night? He couldn’t. He wanted to talk to his older brother Hero, but unfortunately for Kel, Hero was fast asleep on the couch with his girlfriend. What was her name again? Samantha? Sam? Maybe Mag? Alex– this was a distraction. He should leave the lovers to rest. After all, he hadn’t heard anyone say they weren’t tired after studying it. 

Walking towards the door he played with the doorknob. 

I should probably change clothes, Kel thought, Or I could pick up hockey. 

He knew he had to step out of that door, and check up on his dear ol’ friend. But how deep of a sleeper can one teenage boy be? So he opened the door, greeted by the same air that filled his lungs. Joy to the world, melancholy for Kel. He walked to Sunny's house, knocking on the door rhythmically. Lucky for him, Sunny was tiredly awake, as if he had just been living in his own little dreamland and got a sudden nightmare.

“Hey, Sunny!” Kel smiled.

“Hi.”

“So umm… wanna take a walk with me?”

Sunny looked from left to right outside his door before fully walking outside and giving Kel a nod. 

“Where are we going?” Sunny asked. Kel knew he was a man of few words, not straightforward, but not entirely aloof either. Mostly right in the middle, not a talker, but instead a listener. 

Kel thought of being poetic, it’s just what the 12:00 am fever gives you. “To the stars.” While it was admittedly corny, he could still see the other smile. A smile he hasn’t seen in quite a while. 

As they walked Kel kept quiet. He thought of confessing, though it would only be too rash, too soon, he didn't want to burden Sunny with anything he’d be forced to accept. So he kept walking till they reached the park, “Nice view isn’t it?” Sunny only responded with a glance, stars reflecting in his eyes. Kel brightened; his face felt flush and brand new. “It’s beautiful for stargazing.” This was lame. Generic. A raccoon would have come up with a better excuse. “I say we lay on those tables, perfect view!” Kel kept a loud whisper to his voice, it was beautiful to Sunny, but then again, Sunny barely spoke about it, only writing sad poetry and then seldom love poems; it would be a wonder if Kel ever knew.

The tables weren’t comfortable, only a masochistic liar would even think of playing devil's advocate for the damned things, but they made the close. Physically, that is. It felt intimate to spend a relaxing moment like this with your crush. The stars grazed the sky like silver paint dots on an inky night sky. Sunny looked so deep in thought, yet so focused you would think he was about to sleep. 

Words weren't spoken, but you could feel the lullabies in the sky. Similar to Mari’s hums. Kel remembered them. He remembered them clear as day. He remembered slowly going to hold Sunny’s hand. Identical to what he is doing now. His hand slowly slides into the others, fireworks exploding so much so that the New Year's sky would be jealous.

Sunny can feel the touch, but he isn’t going to try to move. It reminds him of the times when Kel used to say their hands are kissing. He doesn’t anymore, he seems too shy. Yet if both talked then they would know how the other still saw how their hands would peck when brushing and how they are kissing under the stars when holding. 

“The stars look just like how I remembered them.” Sunny was a poet, not a published one, but he was a damn good one, enough so that he would outsell everyone in the field. “You’ve always seen the same stars, Sun.” They both knew the nickname was false. Sunny was – and has always been – the moon, yet he shined so brightly under the stars. “I know.” The smile had faded into a light one, yet still viewable. Still beautiful. 

Some time had passed before any more words were spoken. 

“Did you know how Hero and his new girlfriend met?”

Sunny shook his head. 

“Well, mom says it’s romantic, but I say it’s funny. Turns out that they met in the college cafeteria. That day they were serving milkshakes, right? Guess what happened.” Kel possessed the normal Kel Smile™. “They bumped into each other while she was talking with her friends and he was holding his drink! It got all over her clothes apparently and she told him that she wouldn’t accept any verbal apology. So she had him walk her to her dorm! A few days after that he offered to cook her a meal as an ‘actual apology’ and that's when they first became friends.” 

Sunny looked unbothered, yet he still remembered when Hero and Mari started to date, she reminds him a little of her. Kel could sense it a little, so his laughter died down to a small chuckle. 

Sunny would be leaving tomorrow afternoon. And he didn't wanna make the first and last night of his visit unbearable, anyone with eyes could see the mosquito bites. 

“Hey, do you wanna head to my place for a snack and ac?” 

“Sure, I could go for some popcorn.” 

And so they left, minimal conversation made on the way back. Once they reached Kel’s house he warned Sunny that they probably shouldn’t turn off the TV as Hero and his girlfriend are asleep and that they probably shouldn’t wake them, if they know what was good for them.

Slowly entering, the door thankfully not creaking, they walked like mice to the kitchen. There were a few things left in the fridge and a lot of dry, warm snacks in the pantry. Going for the chips, their hands kissed. “Oh, sorry.” 

“You say sorry, a lot, y’know?”

Sunny quietly replied, “Yeah, habit, sorry.”

“There you go again, Sun. We really need to teach you how to tone down the apologies. No matter how cute they make you seem.” 

Time had stopped. Kel's words weren’t ancient, everyone called Sunny cute at some point, especially after how much he’s grown since moving to the city. “Sure.” He smiled, while mildly forced, it was a view to see. 

The night soon went away with them playing around with the snack and drinks, and sneaking behind the couch to watch whatever generic Halloween movie was playing on Freeform. “Ugh, Hocus Pocus again?!” 

“Shh,” Sunny pointed at the people who were sleeping right below their heads. 

“Oh, yeah, right.” 

After a few laughs and jokes, tiny heart attacks from Hero almost waking up, and going up to Kel and Hero’s room to read a few new issues from a comic book they liked, it was almost 5:30 am and they had to get Sunny home soon before his mother woke up. 

Dashing through the doors of both houses and, quietly, slamming them, they got Sunny up into his room. Quickly getting Sunny’s bed ready and looking as “I totally slept throughout the entire night” as possible before he actually got in the bed. Sunny told Kel that he heard his mom’s footsteps and that he should get running. Though, it would be nearly impossible for him to go through Sunny’s door without getting caught. So, Kel did the absolute smartest thing to do and jumped out his friend’s window. It felt like hiding a secret from a forbidden romance novel. The type of scene that Aubrey would gush to him about before swearing him to secrecy. 

By the next day, neither of them got in trouble and they got away with it like total spies. Except for the fact that both didn't wake up till around 4:55 pm – around 35 minutes before Sunny had to leave. And while Hero was quick to wake up his brother, Sunny didn’t have that and slept an extra 10 minutes. During which, Kel had gotten decently prepared to say goodbye till he came back. 

“Hey.” a half-awake Sunny stated.

“Hey, Sunny.” Kel could feel himself sweat, he was the last to say goodbye and he had five minutes – too short.

“Why don’t you just call me Sun?” 

“Oh, umm, it was an accident and I thought you didn’t like it and-”

“I liked it,” Sunny stared at Kel, “it felt, ironic to us.” To us. That one stuck. He forgot how ironic the nickname his half-awake mind made up while breathing the poisonous air polluting his thoughts. 

“Well then, I’ll use it more often. Goodbye, Sun.”

And, in a low whisper, Sunny muttered words only Kel’s ears were exposed to, hands kissing. “Goodbye, Sweet Moon.”

That damned poet. The city had changed Sunny, the whole group noticed, but damned be Kel as that newfound confidence had only worsened his already big crush on this man.

Sunny left after those words. That sweet retort of a nickname. His hands ached for a kiss, the words ‘My Sun’ lingering in his mouth, though, ironically, his sun was already setting.

He just didn’t know when he would rise again.

i have officially started brainrotting about the omori au (all i have left to do is start writing but i keep redesigning) i also keep thinking about two different spiderbit celebrity aus (completely different plots, both written out) and i also keep rereading the royalty one shot i started for spiderbit week. also i still have one scene left to write for the superhero spiderbit day and figuring out how to code it in but i can google that

Friend-Powered Friday Nights

Phew, made it through the week, time to celebrate with some more streaming of games! My playthrough of Omori continues...but the end is soon approaching! Come watch along on my twitch channel!

Hey, nothing too big this time as I've had a rough week and I'm currently dogsitting a dog that ain't mine so my brain power is more or less incoherent and shot, just passing on by to wish you a Merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) and to thank you for all your work in the fandom!

First of all, I've only know of Mess Au existing for like an hour and a half but I already adore the life out of it, Rip Player and their sanity due to the Evil Chain running around but I am thriving on their content with the Ganons. And, there's a discord? *Confused guitar sounds from a Musician*

Also I'd die for Pastuzo, just saying, if dangerous wild animal then why friend and hug shaped? I've only know him for a day and a half but if anything happened to him I'd murder everyone in the Yigah Clan and then myself, Player is lucky if it was me there with Nat I'd immediately pat, bless that guy (also Rip Nature and his food, I hope he knows that my version of Fia/Seraph is cackling at his misery, just straight up rolling on the floor), and the entire section with Eve? Perfection, outstanding, showstopping, honestly given I'm a reader myself I'd probably chill with him, and I hope Player gets to introduce books from their world to him because something tells me he'd love a wider selection, I am thriving so much with this thank you for the food of Ganon-Player Found Family. *Bows* Also, I kind of want the Ganons to meet Og Chain now, it would be funny.

Also, Player's Aid Au where everything is the same but the reason why Legend dislikes Players is that the only time he remembers with his Guide is in Koholint so that's why he's so Claude Frollo when it comes to them, the trauma is making him suspicious. Or alternatively, where Player is actually a Witch but like A Wadanohara Sea Witch rather than the standard type, like instead of a broom they have a staff with an anchor at the end they use to fight and fly (as well as several other anchors and fish hooks on their design), an Ocarina for healing spells, some control over water and basically does what the Links do but with a twist: protects the ocean and people's dreams, no one in the Chain would ever have a nightmare while they're around, bonus points if we give them a seagull familiar that can turn human, or that it's just straight up Marin, or if because Mipha is a Zora and Zora are sea creatures if they make her a familiar she can also join the Chain or heck even Nayru idk haven't thought that far ahead.

Legend: They're a Witch!

Sea Witch Player, feeding seagulls with Aryll: ... Yes? I did go to witch school in the witch world, and? Do you want to see my certificate and PhD in witchcraft or something?

One thing for sure is that if Sea Witch ever saw the Wind Fish fhey just straight up roll up their sleeves, go "Hold my staff and anchor earrings Rulie/Wild/Wind/Nat/Grandpa Tides" and just try to fistfight it, no magic involved, that or they'd be yelling expletives at it with at least one Chain or Passel/Singular (a group of hogs/boars) member holding them back from fighting it, bonus points if they do the same for Dark Link if they went through the same trauma Wada did or have moon trauma like Time too.

... Now I'm thinking about how the Chain or Ganons would react to Indie games, hm... Eh, maybe in another ask, Tides and Time would mentally adopt Niko from One Shot, or any child protagonists so fast I can literally see it, Time would literally feel smacked by Hello Charlotte and Undertale, and Legend would have a love-hate thing for both Omori, Yume Nikki and Dreamfarer and Hyrule would get so much trauma from Mad Father, gotta think of any other ones for another ask.

Also we gotta love witches, especially Sea Witch Player and all I'm saying is sharks are pretty great so Player having two familiars and once is a shark (more importantly whale shark because I love them)

Tbh, Tide I feel is an Animal Crossing lover (I know it's not an indie game but still), he enjoys the calmer life.

ngl i almost pulled a kurt cobain this week. but i didnt. and honestly i think thats something to celebrate because i got like 20 things that ROCKED MY SHIT (in a bad way) this week and i didnt even relapse. (had myself guessing for a moment though.) just played omori and pretended like nothing was real to get through it

Reading textbook chapters can be so ugh dude (is in the middle of reading stuff for his and had to stop in the middle. whoopsies.) However I've been trying to like. plank or do push-ups for one paragraph then rest while reading. Idk why but it's like as soon as I sit down to read informational text my brain is like alrighty boys deploy as much energy as you can. Make him want to run a 5k. But this works pretty well! (except for the fact that I Cannot plank very long. started out on every two paragraphs then off one but my arms got tired.) but i feel like those dude bros in the movies, working out and getting smort.

Ada;lkj bestie congrats on your last semester, that's such an awesome thing to be able to celebrate!! And also tacking onto that. How could you not brag about six associates degrees. That's incredible! I'm having trouble arranging my core classes around two. Six is awesome!!! Literally so excited for you to graduate w/ seven whole degrees in your hand.

And oh yeah yeah yeah Ori and the Blind Forest!! Saw those giftsets you rbed and sent a couple to a good friend of mind who's obsessed w/ those kinds of indie games. She'd already played it, but she Highly recommended it to me, so it's actually on my list of games to play. And ough Omori!! I haven't heard too much about it, but I really like it's art style and score! Super spooky!

I myself and doing pretty good as well. Our school for some reason makes us go on break and THEN has midterms a week later, so I finished up some mid-terms/finals last week and am starting some new classes this semester. Taking speech to get it out of the way so that I (hopefully) won't have to take it in college. But oh man is my teacher an interesting one. The way she formats her class it's easy to pass, but we quite literally have a quiz! Every day! Until late february!

Just finishing up some homework for that and another class. (Trying to get ahead since she posts the videos we listen to ahead of time, but it is terribly disinterested so that's incredible. /s) Other than that though doing good myself. Sport is starting up again soon, and I'm overall enjoying life.

Hmm artistic endeavors. I've been doodling a lot. I haven't really done much digital stuff since I haven't been able to get into the mood, did do a finitar drawing in pen which. Disappointed and proud of myself at the same time. I'm also planning a kotlc pride month and Other Weeks that I really hope to create something for. But yeah! Lots and lots and lots of doodles.

Thenn writing side I haven't done too much either. Wanted to write something tonight but idk if I'll have time since I have to finish up studying, take a shower and do other house hold stuff. But I've been researching stuff for a fic that is like. My special interest. I LOVE researching about a very specific topic that I will not disclose for...mysterious author reasons.

Though now that you've been talking about games, my mind wandered to Stray, which is probably one of my favorite games I've played. I'd say I'm probably around a third or fourth of the way through, and it's just. incredible. I love dystopian worlds and incredible art, but I also like balancing the stress fight scenes with exploring stuff. Which this game does really well in my opinion. (also. you are a kitty. which I think makes it 17 times better.)

But yeah overall!!! P good! Stressed but like that classic kitten poster, I'm hanging in there.

Very sweet of you to ask, I have been doing alright. Had to read three textbook chapters in two days to do an assignment (each chapter takes about an hour) which was OUGH but I did it. And it's a subject I'm interested in so it's okay I forgive the professor. Also got another material sorted (had a bit of a Situation with an access code for a thing, but it's good now)

Basically life has been me getting into the swing of the semester. Final semester! I graduate in April, so that's pretty cool! Doing things a little out of order though because I already have six associates degrees (2 year college degrees) and will just be tacking a high school diploma on the end, but I think that's very impressive of me so I may brag a little bit.

Also been playing some lovely video games lately. Finished Ori and the Blind Forest and am now going for the completionist things and getting all the life/energy cells and such. And started Omori, but haven't gotten very far yet. Adoring it so far though!

Kaiju Week in Review (November 20-26, 2022)

Megumi Odaka, best known as psychic Miki Saegusa from the Heisei Godzilla series, retired from acting in 2000 due to health issues and disappeared from the public eye for a decade. The narration she contributed to Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex was her first role since then, and she's finally ready to go back in front of the camera. 3Y Film (The Great Buddha Arrival, Nezura 1964) has a new kaiju movie in the works, Hoshi 35, which Odaka is set to star in. Since it's a 3Y joint, and part of a celebration of the 35 years since her acting debut, expect it to get meta. As usual, Hiroko Yokokawa is directing; another key player is Daisuke Sato (Howl from Beyond the Fog), who will serve as director of special effects, cinematographer, and suitmaker (with Tomoya Ayaki).

3Y productions are known for bringing back veteran kaiju actors, and Hoshi 35 has already cast several besides Odaka, this time focusing on the Heisei era instead of the Showa era. Jun Hashizume played MOGUERA pilot Koji Shindo in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla and Kojiro Inaba in Ultraman Z, Daijiro Harada was Mechagodzilla captain Takuya Sasaki in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, and Akira Ohashi stepped inside Gamera in Gamera 2, Iris in Gamera 3, and King Ghidorah in GMK. He'll be playing another monster in this one, Hoshikuzu. Hiroshi Miyasaka and Yumiko Tanaka will appear as well.

No plot details are currently known. The film is aiming for a October 2023 release date.

Gridman Universe, the crossover film for SSSS.GRIDMAN and SSSS.DYANZENON, has a new pair of posters and a teaser trailer. It'll hit theaters in Japan on March 24 (and hopefully arrive in the West before the year is out). Excessive fanservice aside, I really enjoyed GRIDMAN, but haven't gotten around to DYNAZENON yet... it aired in Spring 2021, which was a pretty chaotic time to be a Wikizilla editor, and I think I was under the impression it was all mecha, no kaiju. Guess I have to now!

Veteran Ultra Series director Takeshi Yagi debuted a proof-of-concept short at Tokyo Comic Con called AKARI, which you can also watch online. The story is simple—a giant heroine (Akari) battles a rampaging cyborg kaiju (Pythagodon) in a futuristic, neon city—but Yagi and company have far greater ambitions for it. They created it as part of a course on tokusatsu techniques, and hope to turn it into a feature or series with the funds from that course, as well as other crowdfunding efforts. The story they've drawn up is pretty intriguing: a 2076 Japan where corporations run amok, the AI uprising is at hand, and an alien race who survived their own rogue AI empowers a woman to save the Earth.

Matt Frank designed Akari. Akihiko Iguchi (Mechagodzilla, King Caesar, Titanosaurus) came up with Pythagodon, and boy, you can tell. I hope we haven't seen the last of them.

One more kaiju short for you to watch: Ivalla the Land Mine Monster: Case of Extra. This one is in more dire need of subtitles to get the full experience, but there's still a quality rampage to witness. From the other videos on the channel, Yuki Kurosu has been working on this for 8 years—props for persevering!

Godziban squeezed another episode out of Godzilla Festival 2022, this one focusing on the puppet displays and demonstrations at the event and the upcoming Blu-ray-only episodes which will see Bagan make his debut and many others battling it out.

Kadokawa released a fine video tribute to Gamera for his 57th birthday, which naturally ends by teasing the Netflix project. Interesting that they skipped over the 2015 short though.

Your reading assignment for the week is Patrick Galvan's excellent tribute to Kazuki Omori for Toho Kingdom, a well-researched overview of his career and analysis of the two Godzilla films he directed.

HERO Month Long Celebration!

Hello fellow Hero enjoyers! Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to the One & Only Hero! We are so excited to be back from our brief hiatus and are looking forward to another great year of Hero love & appreciation.
