girlcoded sam readings are like. his arcs are so tied up with control and bodily autonomy and sexual assault and otherness and cleanness and a desire for freedom and rebellion against oppressive masculine forces to the point where an examination of his show-long arcs looks like a thesis on The Female Gothic. he’s never afforded the respect or the power of characters like john and dean and is in fact narratively punished whenever he isn’t subservient to them. both the show itself and the fandom surrounding it treat him like dean’s bitch wife. he is textually compared to female characters multiple times, by the narrative and by dean.

and then meanwhile girlcoded dean readings are like. Eldest daughter core! (his father handed down ultimate control over every aspect of sam’s life once he died like a family heirloom)(he is THE patriarch). Yes he does the cooking yes he does the cleaning (which he doesn’t even…. and even if he solely did all the housework how does that make him Girl Coded unless it’s being delegated exclusively to him like its his role and he’s punished for not conforming to it… which is not happening…).

like girlcoded dean readings rely on stereotypes about women in real life. girlcoded sam readings rely on noticing how much the narrative constructed around sam falls into tropes used in fiction almost always about women. even things like his psychic powers! the way people are always swarming around trying to ‘corrupt’ him! the fixation on his purity and innocence! the two readings are very different things

I made a few new wax seal stamps out of clay (like the ones I did for my worldbuilding stuff forever ago), this time just of random symbols that I thought might look good done in the style of painting over the raised part of the wax or etc. :0c Some of them aren't carved deep enough to really show up that well, but overall they worked okay for being clay lol

He's such a good friend, and you can really see how he knows him here, even with all the decades of lies and misdirection, even with Bruce never wanting him to.

It's such great work. I love it. All the things that go unsaid and everything that they force out of their mouths because they need to say them or the other needs to hear it.

Yes! God, Bruce has so many identity issues. It's not just as simple as, well Bruce Wayne is the mask and Batman is the real him -- here, clearly it's all shades of truth. But Ollie knows enough to piece those bits together. He wants to piece them together, more than even Bruce does. He's saying hey, that Bruce Wayne you keep writing off and pretending isn't you? He is you, so stop this bullshit.

Ollie is fully himself in both identities, and I think that's what scares Bruce (and also makes him a tiny bit envious). Bruce is never wholly himself no matter which mask he's wearing. That must be disorienting.

just watched bottoms! it was a relatively small theater, but still, i don't think i've been in such a filled, interactive crowd since covid. people were CACKLING, and it was clear everyone was having fun with their friends they had come with. the movie was So camp, So hilarious, So fucking incredible.

when it's available to you, GO SUPPORT IT!!! queer cinema is ever-evolving, and supporting history-makers like this film is so awesome

i just feel like looking at precanon dynamics going ‘oh the main reason sam and john clash is because they’re sooooo similar’ is ignoring actual canon and implication in favour of taking a specific comment about a specific arc of sam’s that dean makes and running with it.

for one it’s missing all the context which is. this isn’t two random people who clash for unknown reasons, this is a father and the son he’s actively abusing and neglecting. sam has a right to be angry!! it’d be more concerning if he Wasnt angry (a la dean)!!

also just what we do see in canon is like. totally the opposite. john’s always hated the fact that sam’s different from him… that sam wants different things, doesn’t want to hunt, a different life…. DEAN’S the one who tries to be identical to his father. whether he succeeds is another story (i don’t think he’s innately very like john but i do think he leans into the same coping mechanisms and behavioural patterns, wholly for the worse!) but john seems to mostly believe him. even going by the journal which like. i know people don’t take as canon but i like it <3. john thinks dean’s practically a mini him (ofc he Isn’t but) and that sam reminds him of mary. 🤷‍♂️ ofc you can still see sam and john as being similar in some ways. i can certainly see it and i’m sure i’ve written it. kids r often like their parents. but 1 that’s not, like, the Secret Reason they’ve always fought so badly and 2 sam is like john sometimes but he’s also like mary who’s like dean who’s also still like john. and sam and dean are often like each other. i already went on about this in my last post so i’m repeating myself but. reject the false binary inside your head where a sibling like. picks a parent and grows up to identically be them.

I need to kiss the writers on the mouths because as embarrassing as it is to watch, i see myself so much in buck's coming out story. I remember me and my entire friend group in elementary school saying "well, everyones at least a little bit gay!!! no one's completely straight!!!" (10 years later and everyone in that friend group is, in fact, not straight, and I still giggle about this very often). I also remember saying "im an ally!!!!" when I was younger, and feeling so strongly about everyone being able to kiss whoever they wanted, but i didn't know exactly why, because I still liked men, so there was no way I could also like women??? (I didn't know bisexuality was a thing yet). idk im just in my feels and also can't stop thinking of the way Oliver stark is talking about bi buck<333
