I will always be headbanging even if it means doing it from a chair. Heck, I was at a Suicidal Tendencies show on crutches - brilliant weapon to push people back into the pit. \m/

I do think the conversation around the Garricks Club is important as a writing student.
I'm Dutch so we don't have that exact club over here, but the person who made my writing textbook is 100% of the same old guy's club mentality.
I can feel it in several ways, the way the examples I am recommended to read are mostly from male writers who's peak already died down around the start of the century (some were already dead by this time).
That one painful example which included an example of 'men writing women'. Said author has been dead for over a decade, alongside another author who even got praises in my textbook for children's literature despite him not being a children's author...
The way how the book goes into depth about writing from childhood nostalgie when you're 50+.
The way how often when assuming the gender of the student it assumes I'm a male as when talking about the psychology of our brains it typically refers to the brains with male pronouns and there is one throwaway line after several chapters in that's says something along the lines of, 'for those who have female pronouns' like female students are a complete afterthought
I actually refused to do certain assignments because of the archaic mindset. Except for Max Havelaar, none of their examples are what people like Gen z would consider ageless classics. Some, like the 'men-writing-woman' example are definitely aging like old milk, so no I am not taking those seriously and if I fail my exams because of it, then so be it.
I know I won't be failing because I'm a bad writer, but because the people who created my course are old geezers who aren't adapting to the times. They should accept that wine moms have taken over and that the disillusioned woman is likelier to pick up the pen in this day and era.
One of my favorite male authors is Christopher Paolini and his sister Angela did so much of helping him with the rewrites, she even got to write a short story in one of his books. When he held his Inheritance book tour, he gave his sister credit for being his beta reader and actually was so friendly to me when I asked him for writing advice. Apparantly everyone in the line before me had brought English copies- mine are the first Dutch copies he ever got to sign.
I swear, the old geezers can learn quite a bit from Christopher. His teamwork with female aspiring authors and uplifting attitude towards them is how the modern male author should act.
I don't care if any of the authors who are still alive that my textbook praises ever were to read my work. If I ever get to publish my book, I'm sending it to Christopher along with a translated version of my manuscript so I can thank him for being so kind to my back then, insecure 14 year old self and to show him I did made it as a writer too, partially due to the way how he talked about stuff like the rewriting proces and that its okay of you don't come up with a good story on your first try- he didn't either. The way he humbled himself and wasn't afraid of talking about his blunders of his first booktour, honestly shattered a lot of misconceptions about authors and basically left me with the belief that 'if a 17 year old dork can do it, so can I'.

elrond through the ages based on one glorious panel from chapter 95 of Black Butler (hopefully i got that right....). in the context of this sequence, i always thought it was sad to think abt how many people elrond has lost throughout his life alongside how remarkable he is to remain "as kind as summer" still by the time the hobbit rolls around 🥺
i redrew elrond's poses based on ciel's in the original panels BUT i forgot what page exactly the original panel sequence is... however!! if you scroll down to the middle half of this blog post you can find the original reference pic :D warning that it includes heavy spoilers for the black butler manga so u could just alternatively google 'ciel phantomhive running' and it'd probably be one of the first results that pop up haha

Bill went grey first, and it was a bit of a nasty shock for him. He's spent millions years not aging after all! He's still so young and sharp! He's not old!
grey!Bill: ugh, I look like my grandfather!!! Ford: ...don't you mean father? grey!Bill: Haha nope! He never got THIS OLD- grey!Bill: ...
So now he dyes it black!

a lot of people who've watched gravity falls think that stanford is unsympathetic or a bad character, and most of the people who dont think that think stanford is at least selfish and flawed, which i can't really refute, but it always made me feel so awful, and i never realized why until now.
if you look at stanford pines as an allegory for a child with a developmental disability like autism or a "gifted kid", then a lot of the pieces start to fall together.
⚠️spoilers for gravity falls, the website, and maybe a bit of the book of bill⚠️
Tumblr media
stanford pines was born with an "extra finger", a symbol for a disability. for a while, everyone thought it was a flaw. he was teased and shunned by his peers,
Tumblr media
but then, people began to notice his genius. it even says on thisisnotawebsitedotcom.com, when you enter "sixer" or "stanford", that he has a "hyper-ability", something many people will say about "gifted" autistic people.
Tumblr media
as soon as people started to point this out, everything felt like it made sense to ford. as a person who grew up with autism, i can relate to feeling alienated from my peers, and wondering "why? why, in a world made for normal people, was i made wrong?"
that kind of thought can lead to a sort of delusion.. that maybe you were destined for something great. maybe you were different because one day you would use it to change the world. i believe this is the way ford felt when he was approached by bill
Tumblr media
bill came to ford and told him everything he'd ever wanted to hear.. that this feeling was real. that he was destined for greatness. that he was better, smarter, more special than the ones who had shunned him.
bill told ford that building the portal would make him a hero, make people finally see him as more than an extra finger. the one problem?
Tumblr media
bill was a liar.
he used ford's selfish thoughts to trick him into making a gateway that would end the world. he used the years of mockery, the alienation, the loneliness, and he came to ford when he was alone, trapped, with nowhere to go.
he offered ford the opportunity to get back at a world that was built to knock him down at every turn, a world full of people who would never understand him. he offered to make ford a god.
Tumblr media
and ford refused
he refused, even in a world that had done nothing but tear him down, to hurt others just to feel better about himself. he only had a few people who had ever cared for him, and yet, he was willing to destroy his life's work to save everyone who had made him miserable.
remember, he fully intended to stay trapped in the portal for all of eternity. that's why he was so frustrated when stanley brought him back. what we saw as a heroic act from stanley, ford saw as stanley refusing the sacrifice he had made to save him. he didn't thank stanley because nobody thanked him. no one thanked him for his hard work or sacrifice or his years of suffering just to protect stanley.
that, of course, led to this scene, which many people saw as stanford's most frustrating moment.
Tumblr media
i think this post sums up really well why stanford, in this dire moment, would choose to insult his brother. because stanley was being selfish, too. stanley refused to help save the world, save his brother, all because ford never said "thank you."
they were both selfish. everyone is. they didn't fight because they were bad people, but because they both saw things from their own perspective. they were each hopelessly lonely without each other, but both too prideful to admit it.
Tumblr media
in the end, they make up, and both follow their true dream. not money, not fame, just staying together.
stanford pines is not a bad, unsympathetic character. he is a complex, misdirected, "gifted" child. his only flaw was not seeing that he wasn't alone. his family was right there to support him the whole time.

JP Paimon is like, so rude compared to EN Paimon it cracks me up.
For starters, her usual second person pronoun is オマエ (omae). This is standard for rude/direct characters in anime, so it might not sound that bad, but in real life, this could easily get you in a fistfight. And she never changes it for anyone, no matter how important they are.
Also, zero honorifics. She calls anyone by name. No さん (-san), no 殿 (-dono), no 様 (-sama), nothing. Just the name and name alone. The only one that gets the honor is Diluc... Or ディルックの旦那 (Master Diluc), as she calls him.
She's also kind of foul-mouthed, lmao. You know how Paimon calls Venti "Tone-Deaf Bard"? Well, in JP it's 吟遊野郎 (Bard Bastard). No hesitation whatsoever.
And you know what? I wouldn't have her any other way.

Hello happy gay month. This is my contribution to the downfall of the western civilization, enjoy.
Explanation for the character designs, the guy with leash is Gilbert and the leash freakazoid is Hunter post Squid baby ending.
Bonus info for those curious, made this in day and half while sleep deprived and thiving purely off neurodivergency. Audio credit is burial goods. Next in line is a Laurence one thumbs up
