Διεύθυνση: Σταδίου και Εδ. Λω (Οφθαλμιατρείου)

Έτη λειτουργίας: 1905 - 1930

Στη συμβολή των οδών Σταδίου 22 (σήμερα) και Εδουάρδου Λω (πρώην Οφθαλμιατρείου) οικοδομήθηκε από τον αρχιτέκτονα Αλέξανδρο Λυκάκη το κτήριο που στέγασε το ξενοδοχείο «Ανακτορικόν» ή «Palace Hotel». Τα εγκαίνια της λειτουργίας του ξενοδοχείου πραγματοποιήθηκαν στις 10 Απριλίου του 1905 με διευθυντές τους αδελφούς Πολέμη.

Σε διαφημιστική καταχώριση του 1905 αναφέρεται ως «το πολυτελέστερον και τελειότερον εν Ελλάδι» και διέθετε άπλετο ηλεκτρικό φωτισμό, θέρμανση τελευταίου συστήματος, ασανσέρ. Είχε αίθουσες κυριών, υποδοχής, αναγνωστήριο, σφαιριστήριο και εστιατόριο.

Το 1911 διευθυντής του αναφέρεται ο Γ. Καλαμάρης και εκείνη την περίοδο διέθετε 75 δωμάτια.Αργότερα, το 1920 απέκτησε εστιατόριο και διευθυντής του ήταν ο Νικ. Τσαντίλης. Το 1927 λειτουργούσε υπό τη διεύθυνση του Γ. Λογιώτατου, ενώ κάποιος Π. Βάιντεκ εμφανίζεται ως διευθυντής του λίγο νωρίτερα και για μικρό διάστημα. Σύμφωνα με τους οδηγούς της εποχής λειτούργησε από το 1905 ώς το 1930 περίπου.

Όταν το μέγαρο Καλαμάρη γκρεμίστηκε, στη θέση του το 1963  χτίστηκε το ξενοδοχείο «Esperia Palace Hotel», το οποίο διέκοψε τη λειτουργία του το 2010.

#VoxPop The long-running radio interview program Vox Pop broadcast from locations all over the United States and Canada, but hotels were among the most frequent locations for the show. For example, Vox Pop made 24 broadcasts from the Hotel McAlpin in New York City between 1936 and 1945.

Host Parks Johnson also used the Hotel McAlpin to conduct business. Here, Johnson (facing camera) and co-host Wally Butterworth (pouring coffee) are shown dining in the Roof Garden restaurant of the hotel  on June 9, 1938. With them are J. Fred Coll (left) and George B. McCoy (right). Coll and McCoy handled the publicity for Vox Pop and had offices in the hotel.  

The Hotel McAlpin (now a condominium complex called the Herald Towers) opened in 1912 and was the largest hotel in the world at the time, with 25 stories and 1,500 guest rooms.
