Kitsuke of the Day: Okinawa New Years Festival 2024 by Mari Lenoirre Via Flickr: Toshichiyo and I were meandering hours and hours before the 6pm performance tonight at Okinawa and found this really cool dragon with the Torii gate nearby the landing area and we couldn't resist taking a selfie. We both have new formals too. Toshichiyo owns Geigi and made a set of formal appliers with motif honoring Okinawa's textile heritage. And I'm wearing a formal hikizuri by Toshiha Magic that I commissioned her a few weeks ago in last year. I really love how our formals look and I look forward to 2024 with everyone and hope to meet new friends. Pictured: Toshinami and Toshichiyo

Happy birthday! Fun fact: here in Brasil there is a festival called "Festival Okinawa" (how creative) and it's usually held in this time of the year. I went there yesterday, it was so fun! And I found a Scara cosplayer there (I almost went as Nahida but in the end, that didn't happened, and I cried after).
But hey, in the festival theme, imagine bf!Wanderer going back to inazuma just because their partner really wanted to go to a festival that was happening at the time, but since his partner wasn't from there (maybe they meet as scholars in the akademia) it would be their first time wearing/ experiencing things from Wanderer's culture (aside from the food, since our boy male wife cooks).
I just think it would flip something in his brain so much! The way reader's body is wrapped in a kimono, the glimer in their eyes when they see something they don't know, how cute they look, just make Wanderer want to tease, love, worship and (most likely) do pervert stuff to them.
Maybe im going to a more scummy Scara way?? But if you could elaborate it more it would be amazing hehe. Again, happy birthday <33
Wanderer x fem! Smut. Semi public filth. Fingering. Cunilligus. Some fluff. Tagged as Scummy Scara.
That festival sounds so fun! I would love to go myself one day. I had fun writing this cause I have never been to a festival either. And oh hell yes, he definitely cooks. Gotta one up his mama after all and be good at something she isn't😌
"Don't laugh, okay?" You said, peeking out from around the bathroom door. You peered at Wanderer shyly, making him scoff impatiently as he crossed his arms. You sighed and opened the bathroom door, revealing yourself wrapped in an elegant kimono.
Wanderer's eyes shamelessly racked up and down your body. It hugged you all of the right places. He made a turning motion with his finger. "Well, does it look okay?" You asked, turning in a circle for him.
"It would look even better off of you," He teased, which made you hide your face in your hands. You were always so cute when you were shy. He couldn't help it. Both of you knew the kimono was coming off of you later. You just hoped he didn't tear it.
"I'm ready to go when you are," The look in your eyes when you looked up at him was one of shy excitement. Wanderer was taking you to a festival being held in Chinju Forest.
It was the first time you had ever been to something like this. The sights, the culture, the food, all of it would be completely new to you. And he would never admit it either, but he was excited to go the festival as well.
While you took in everything around you, Wanderer took you in. The way your eyes seemed to sparkle when you learned about something you weren't familiar with. The way a blush coated your cheeks when you tried food that you thought tasted good.
The way your hand would squeeze his when you walked through a large crowd of people, like you clinging to him, fearing you would get separated from him.
Your eyes seemed to shine when you looked up at him. "Do you think they have a stall with goldfish scooping in it?" You asked, looking hopeful as you carefully looked at the stalls you were passing.
You even looked delicate as she trotted up to the stall Wanderer pointed out to you. So fragile. Every moment with you was breathtaking.
Your naive innocence made him want to fuck you full of his cum, whispering sweet praises in your ear about how a fragile, delicate little thing like you needed to be fucked dumb on his cock.
Wanderer stood behind you with his hands on your hips, looking down at the fish with you. His cheeks flushed hearing the way you cooed to them about how cute you thought they all were.
"Look, Scara. There is one that matches the color of your eyes," You said, pointing at an indigo colored goldfish.
Wanderer scoffed, massaging his fingers teasingly into your hips just to fluster you. You were always so sensitive to his touches. "Concentrate or he is going to get away from you," He purred in your ear, trying to distract you.
"Scara, you are messing me up," You protested, making him chuckle softly in your ear. "Oh no," The goldfish suddenly flopped up out of the net.
Wanderer took the net and the scoop from your hands, catching the fish in the bag before it could flop back into the bowl. The fish had dizzy swirls in his eyes when he handed you the bag.
Your eyes lit up.
A goldfish had yet to get the best of him.
"Wow, that was amazing, Scara," You said, looking up at him with utter adoration. He smirked. Oh please go on, he knew how great he was.
"Ha, as if I couldn't do something as simple as this," Wanderer scoffed, paying the vender at the stall for the goldfish. He rolled his eyes when you said you were going to name the fish Mr. Bubbles.
You were being too adorable for your own good.
Perhaps the best part of the festival for him was the way your eyes lit up when you watched fireworks flash and burst in the sky. You marvelled at them, saying they were like flowers blooming to life in the sky.
Well, that was one of the best parts of the festival for him, anyways.
The very best part for Wanderer was when he pulled you into an abandoned house near the forest with the fireworks still going off in the sky.
Your kimono has fallen off of one shoulder as he pinned you against the wall, his hands groping all over your body. He rumpled the kimono up your hips, his fingers pushing your panties aside after it travelled down between your legs.
"Mm, ah, Scara," You moaned, rolling your hips up into his fingers, beckoning him to push them inside of you. Even your face as you melted in pleasure against the wall was a sight to behold for him.
He fucked his fingers inside of you until your cunt was clenching around them, your slick coating his fingers and his wrist. You whimpered in protest when he withdrew his fingers, "Scara, I was about to cum."
"What a wet little slut you are," He purred, shoving his fingers into your mouth, making you taste yourself. "And so whiney."
Wanderer pumped his fingers in and out of your mouth, watching transfixed at the way drool pooled from the corners of your mouth. You moaned happily as you sucked on his fingers.
Wanderer's hands slid down your body as he dropped to his knees. He pushed your kimono further up your thighs, peeling your drenched panties off.
You gasped in pleasure feeling his tongue flick out across your clit. He seemed instantly drunk on how your tastes, his tongue lapping greedily on your cunt.
You clamped a hand over your mouth to stifle your loud moans. Wanderer smoothed his hands on your thighs, smirking at how cute you looked trying to hold yourself back from crying out as loudly as you could for him.
"I'd better be able to hear you over the fireworks," He growled, vibrating it against your clit. Your hand dropped from your mouth, finding the back of his head to press his face deeper into your cunt.
Your eyes were glazed over in a haze of fucked out adoration by the time he made you squirt on his tongue. He happily slurped and lapped up anything you had to offer him.
The things he was going to do you when he got you back home. Your cunt wasn't going to be able to hold all of his cum.
After all, an innocent thing like you deserved to worshipped and filled full.

A collection of Peach Blossoms' mooncakes, exquisitely crafted with flavours like Charcoal Peach Long Jing with Okinawa Brown Sugar Mochi, Mung Bean & Red Bean Symphony, Single Yolk with White Lotus Paste, and Double Yolk with White Lotus Paste.
Hailing all the way from oversea is Hong Kong MX Mooncakes (香港美心月饼). Their mooncakes comes in traditional square or rectangle tin boxes except for this MX “MINIONS” Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk (美心 ”迷你兵团系列” 蛋黄莲蓉月饼). A new themed mooncake set collaborating with the legendary Minions yet again for the coming festival season inspired by Twin-lens Reflex camera. The gift set features Fan favorite Minions – Bob, Dave, Kevin, and Stuart on the package. When the light is switched on and the handle turned, you will see the Minions projected on the screen with mischievous poses!
As the deep-fried/baked Teochew and no-bake snowskin mooncakes have a short shelf life, we typically will also buy a box of traditional baked mooncakes to offer to our ancestors and deities on the day of Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节). As per last year, sis bought the White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk (美心蛋黄白莲蓉月饼) at S$68 for a box of 4s mooncakes.

U.A. High School Field Trip Around Japan: Day 1 Translations
To celebrate My Hero Academia reaching one hundred million copies worldwide, Shonen Jump is releasing special illustrations in the newspapers of Japan's 47 prefectures, calling it "U.A. High School Field Trip Around Japan." It's being rolled out daily across one-week.
The schedule is:
April 4th, Day 1: Hokkaidō & Tōhōku regions
April 5th, Day 2: Kantō region
April 6th, Day 3: Chūbu region
April 7th, Day 4: Kansai region
April 8th, Day 5: Chūgoku & Shikoku regions
April 9th, Day 6: Kyūshū & Okinawa regions
April 10th, Day 7: Nationwide release
You can see the illustrations on their website here, where they are released digitally the day after their newspaper release, so Day 1 and Day 2 are available right now.
The illustrations depict charming scenes between Class 1-A about something related to each prefecture's culture or history, so I thought it would be really fun to translate them and share a little bit about Japan.
Here we go!
Note: As I mentioned, the illustrations are available on the official site, but they are all rather small, which makes them hard to read, so in this post I have included photographs from fans which I used for my translations. Every photo was available publicly on twitter and I have credited the posters, but please be respectful and don't draw undue attention to these fans. If anyone contacts me wishing for their photo to be removed, I will do so.
Hokkaidō Region
Hokkaidō
Photo credit: twitter user URix0307
Iida: "Heroes! Be ambitious!!' Aizawa: "I'm leaving you behind."
Iida is standing in front of the statue of William S. Clark at Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill, a scenic spot in Sapporo. Clark worked with the Japanese government to found Sapporo Agricultural College (now Hokkaidō University) in 1876; he is a very famous figure in the history of the region. The statue is inscribed with a quote attributed to him as he left Japan: "Boys, be ambitious!"
Tōhōku Region
Aomori
Photo credit: twitter user redaotkrsn
Dark Shadow: "Fumikage!! I GOT ONE!!" Tokoyami: "The allure of forbidden fruit which tastes so sweet..." Dark Shadow: "One simply cannot resist!" Asui: "Tokoyami-chan sure likes apples, huh?"
Agriculture is huge in Aomori, and specifically they are famous for their apples, contributing about 60% of Japan's entire apple production. Raw apples, jams, juices, desserts, etc., they are everywhere in Aomori, and fyi, they are all absolutely delicious. The sweetest, richest, freshest apples I've ever had in my life were the ones I had here! Dark Shadow is right, one simply cannot resist!!!
Iwate
Photo credit: twitter user bakkk_17
Todoroki: "I can have as many bowls as I want, right?" Endeavor: "SHOUTOOOOO!!!" Kouda: "Todoroki-kun!! Your dad said he wants to eat with you, too!!" Todoroki: "Check, please."
Todoroki is eating wanko soba, a specialty from Iwate where it's basically an all-you-can-eat. The soba is served in many small bowls, and you slurp them up and immediately get served more. The verb he uses, ikeru, is one people also use for "holding your liquor well," which I personally found hilarious. "Oh yeah, I can hold my noodles."
Miyagi
Photo credit: twitter user Abino_Haru_Maki
Ashido: "Teacher, what's wrong? You keep lollygagging about!" Aizawa: "Kittykittykitty..." Shouji: "Anybody suspicious around? Nothing has come up in my search for enemies." Iida: "We're leaving you behind, teacher."
Miyagi is famous for being home to Tashirojima, the so-called "Cat Island" where cats outnumber people. Iida gets revenge!!
Akita
Photo credit: twitter user kado0730
Hagakure: "Namahage faces are so scary!!" Kaminari: "Looks just like Bakugou, don't it." Bakugou: "THERE'S NO RESEMBLANCE AT ALL, I'LL SEND YOU FLYING!!" Sero: "He's a rotten kid who looks just like a Namahage!"
Namahage are frightening folkloric figures from Akita's New Year's festival. Men wear big demon masks and straw coats and wield a (fake) weapon; they march through the streets or knock on doors to scold misbehaving children, asking if there are any "warui ko," (naughty/rotten/bad kids), which is what Sero calls Bakugou.
Yamagata
Photo credit: twitter user ha_n_a_0
Yaoyorozu: "Oh, tranquility! Penetrating the very rock, a cicada’s voice." Kaminari: "Jirou! How about you put your earphones on that rock?" Jirou: "Are you stupid?"
Yaoyorozu is reciting a famous poem by Basho Matsuo written when he visited the Buddhist temple, Risshaku-ji (also called Yamadera, meaning "mountain temple"). This translation is by Helen Craig McCullough. Risshaku-ji, a National Historic site, is home to a number of beautiful buildings and statues built into the mountainside; temple history claims a lineage back to the 9th century. The trail up to the temple consists of 1,015 steps; I visited in winter, which made it quite the precarious climb!
Fukushima
Photo credit: twitter user kingyo0927
Kirishima: "This right here is what I should be aiming for!!" Aoyama: "A fateful encounter~!" Bakugou: "When I said 'just being able to keep standing through anything makes you crazy strong,' this ain't what I meant!!"
Kirishima is looking at rows of okiagari koboshi, which are traditional papier-mâché dolls popular in Fukushima's western Aizu region. They are weighted so that no matter what you do to them, they pop right back up to standing!
That's all for Day 1! I'm still translating Day 2 and collecting Day 3's as they roll in, so please look forward to those. :D

Muse interview - Matt Bellamy [INROCK (September 2002)]
MUSE FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL'02 7.26 FRI/GREEN STAGE
Matthew Bellamy / Muse INTERVIEW
"When you love someone, you can relax."
INTERVIEW: YUKO KATO PHOTOS BY MIHO KATO
Just an hour after the show, the members had finished their catered dinner and were doing TV interviews one after the other in high spirits. Matthew, who was sent to us last because we were taking the most time, looked extremely happy and excited from start to finish. "Our prince is very happy today," said the person in charge. However, I don't think I've ever seen him in a bad mood.
Today's show was amazing. Matthew Bellamy (vo./g.): Really? But I made a pretty big mistake at the beginning. It's the first song I played today, a piano piece [1]. The ending was supposed to end nicely, but we forgot about it… I also played a cover of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" for the first time at the show today. Once we got over the mountain of new songs, I think we had a pretty exciting show until the end.
About that cover song (laughs), I was surprised by the unexpected choice. Matthew: In the UK we do it almost as a joke. That song was originally our tour manager's favourite, and it's a popular song in the UK. n the UK, there's a new TV show called "We Covered," where bands play cover songs one by one, and when we appeared on the show, we chose that song. We later put it on the B-side of a single. They said we should play it this time, and we hadn't done it for a while, so maybe our performance was a little bit lax, but we gave it a go.
How was Karuizawa by the way? Matthew: Is that the name of the place I went to before I came here? It was cool. I stayed at a Japanese-style inn with an onsen… I also tried golf for the first time. I was pretty bad at it (laughs).
You come from Teignmouth, which is famous for golf [2], and you've never played golf! Matthew: Yeah, I know. But this was my first time, and every time I hit it (over-actively), I just scattered dirt all over the place (laughs). There was a lot of sports equipment, like tennis and table tennis, so I worked on my fitness a lot. When you're on tour, you want to do as many things as possible, don't you? You want to stay healthy.
You were planning to bring your family and girlfriend? Matthew: That was the plan. It didn't happen because of all the travel arrangements. Me and Chris (Wolstenholme, b.) each wanted to bring our girlfriends to Okinawa. But we couldn't get a hotel! So next time we want to come about a week before and relax in Okinawa. Next time I'll have to prepare well in advance. My girlfriend is Italian, so last week she and I went to Italy to meet her parents.
I hear your new single "Dead Star" reached number 8 in the UK charts. Congratulations! And look at this. I'm surprised Muse is even in Smash Hits magazine. Matthew: I remember doing the interview. You think it's surprising that a band like us is in a magazine for young kids? (amused) I think in the last few years rock has been reaching kids who listen to pop and boy groups without soul. I try not to overdo the interviews with this kind of stuff (Smash Hits magazine). The reason I did that interview is because I want those readers to listen to different kinds of music, especially alternative music as well.
So, according to that article, the mayor of Teignmouth ran an anti-Muse campaign? Matthew: It's funny, we said a few things about Teignmouth that were a bit unnecessary. It's a very small town, and like any small town, people get frustrated and do violent things at night, or do drugs to vent their frustrations. When I told the press that Teignmouth was like that, the mayor was very disappointed and used a picture of our album in a bin on the cover of the local Herald Express or something.
(laughs). When was that? Matthew: A long time ago. Around the time "Showbiz" was released.
Did you talk to the mayor after that? Muse isn't a band that everyone knows anymore. Everyone should all be proud of Muse. Matthew: (laughs). I think all the citizens are proud of us now. At the same time, some people are jealous that guys from small towns have become so successful, so you have to be careful going back to your home town. I live in London now, so it's fine.
"I'm going to write the next album in an environment where I have my family and my girlfriend around. Inevitably, the songs will be personal."
I thought you lived in Brighton? Matthew: I did live in Brighton, but only for six months, then I moved out. From January to June. July, that's July now, yeah, I moved to London recently. Dom (Dominic Howard ds.) and Tom (best friend) moved to London last week. We've got another place in London, like a rehearsal room. It's a great place…
Did you buy it? Matthew: No, no, not at all! We just rent it (laughs). It's a very strange place, it's usually a chemical factory with pipes and stuff sticking out of it. It's got bedrooms, so Chris can sleep in there, and we rehearse together. We always have to do interviews and stuff in London anyway, don't we? So I'm thinking of living in London for now, until after the next album.
When I spoke to you last year, you told me that you were thinking of buying a house in the countryside and moving in together. Matthew: Come to think of it, we didn't buy one. Instead we rented a big house that used to belong to Winston Churchill. It's a classic quaint place, perfect for us because we love ghosts and stuff. We lived there for six months and did about eight songs on the next album there. I realised that it was better for the band if things kept changing.
You don't want to stay in one place? Matthew: Maybe. We're thinking of settling in London at the moment, but that changes every few years, so you never know. Maybe in the future I'll be living in America. We wrote all the songs on "Origin of Symmetry" on tour or while travelling, but I think we'll do it differently next time. I'm going to try to write the next album in the presence of my family and my girlfriend. Inevitably the songs will be more personal.
I hear people want the new album to be released in March of next year! Matthew: Well… The recording itself could be finished by the end of the year, but we have to take America into account… Because System Of A Down have invited us to tour the US with them. That would take up a lot of my time, but I'm still on the fence about it because it's such a good offer. If we accept the offer, we won't be able to record until February or March next year… If we don't tour the US, we could record by the end of the year and have it out by next summer.
Is America still a fascinating country for you? Matthew: It's a huge country. It's strange and the culture is completely different.
Do you think you guys would be accepted? Matthew: I don't know. The problem in America is that they only accept people who play on the radio, and if you want to be played on the radio, you have to sign with a very corporate, capitalist, global record company. But we're signed to individual labels in every country, aren't we? Right now, in the US, we're thinking of leaving Maverick and releasing on System of a Down's label. That's one of the reasons why they've invited us. It's very difficult to get into America and still be independent… There's a lot of money involved in releasing an album in the States and getting it played on the radio, isn't there? That would require a big record deal, which would cost us the contracts we have in each country… I'm really scared that the big American labels will get involved in the Japanese and European regions and decide everything on their own. That's why I'm wondering if we can do something with System of a Down's label, while protecting our own position.
You seem to have a good handle on the management side of things. Are you a control freak? Matthew: (laughs). Yeah, I guess so. I think it's not that I want to feel like I'm in control, I just want to know what's going on in my life. Not just in music, but in real life, it's better to know the cause and effect of things, isn't it? But it's impossible to know everything. I never had a manager.
Why don't you hire a professional who knows the ins and outs? That's your personality too (laughs). Matthew: No, no, that's not it. I think if we eventually set up an office in London and hired a couple of people there to do the accounting and stuff like that, things would be a lot different.
By the way, Kerrang! magazine said you were so ill you couldn't drink water for eight days. What happened? Matthew: (chuckles in amusement) That was exaggerated. And that was a long time ago, when I was on tour for the first time. I wasn't sick. I'm not a water drinker by nature, but on tour you have to hydrate more than usual, don't you? I was on tour in the States at the time, and I wasn't drinking as much water as I normally do, so I was getting dizzy. I didn't realise I was dehydrated until the doctor told me I had to drink six litres every day. Until then, I drank at most one cup of tea a day, plus a little alcohol. Alcohol is counterproductive, I was told. "Micro Cuts" is about that. I was in a lift somewhere in the US when a complete stranger suddenly said to me, "Hey, are you okay? Maybe you should see a doctor?" I did have a terrible migraine-like headache that hurt like I was being stabbed. It's a classic sign of dehydration. It went away when I started drinking more water.
How much are you drinking now? Matthew: (pointing to a 500ml bottle) About this much. But I'm sure that's still not enough.
Matthew, are you the type of person who finds it difficult to relax? Matthew: I don't know. I'm in a very serious relationship with my current girlfriend. I've known her for about six months to a year now, and since we started dating, I've changed a lot. Thanks to her, I can forget about everything. I can relax a lot when I'm with her. Before that, I couldn't relax at all when I went home alone, and I was always in a hurry to do something! When you love someone, you can relax (laughs shyly).
(laughs). That's nice. Is she the "most beautiful person in the world" you mentioned before? Matthew: Maybe (laughs).
Around the time you recorded your second album, you broke up with someone you'd been with for six years. It was a very painful experience and it seems like those feelings are reflected in the album, but you say you learnt a lot from that time. You say you've started to think about the quality of your friendship with Dom and Chris, how about now? What's your relationship like with them now that you've had that experience? Matthew: Up until around the time of "Showbiz", I was pretty distant from the band. But after I broke up with her, I realised how much I appreciated the band. I think I would have been too lonely without the band. Because I had the band, I was able to get more into music and distract myself. Especially writing songs, the rewards are so great, aren't they? I became addicted to it. At the same time, I realised how close I was with the two of them. After all, they're my best friends.
But you don't have a serious girlfriend now, do you? Doesn't that affect your friendship with them? Matthew: I don't know. Chris has kids and we've grown up. The music is absolute for us now, and we're confident that we'll be doing it for the rest of our lives. We were unstable before the first and second albums, but now we feel very secure in the music, in the band, and in the band members.
What's your third album going to be like? "Origin of Symmetry" was a success, but it was an album heavily influenced by classical music, wasn't it? Or rather, you say it was too influenced? Matthew: Was it (laughs)? My emotions change every day…
But I hope you don't change your music or direction too much. Because I like you guys a lot right now. Matthew: If there's anything I can say about the direction now, there are two directions we're going in, one is a techno-metal heavy rock sound, like the fast stuff by Nine Inch Nails. You could say it's a bit like punk rock. A sound with a digital hardness. The other sound is quite the opposite, influenced by classical music, especially soft classical music.
What composers, for example, are your influences? Matthew: Liszt. Debussy. I've recently started listening to Beethoven, and I like Rachmaninoff a lot. I'm listening to particularly soft, deep, and dark classical music at the moment. I'm also listening to opera, like Carmen. I also like slow, not to say heavy, big, epic, melodic classical music, which is a great contrast to fast-paced music. It's too early to say how we'll be able to put that into one piece. Those are the two things I can say for now.
According to Kerrang! magazine, you take magic mushrooms once or twice a year. Why do you have to take them? Matthew: It's not that I have to eat them. But they're not very strong, they made me laugh a bit, but they didn't do much for me. I did it twice last year. And that time it was extreme, I did it for two or three days straight. It's interesting, isn't it? It was a trio of me, Dom, and Tom. Chris was there too, but he didn't do it, he just had a few drinks. We were the only ones in the park in Amsterdam at the time and it was like a mental experiment, so to speak. An experiment to see how much you can accept your subconscious. I mean, when you do hallucinogenic drugs, you start to hallucinate parts of your subconscious that you are not normally aware of. It's interesting because it helps you get to know yourself better. I don't recommend it to anyone, and if you do it, you should do it in a safe environment with a very close group of people you trust.
Are mushrooms a type of drug? Matthew: Yes, they are natural. In Dartmoor, Devon, they grow mushrooms naturally and harvest them twice a year. So it's very familiar where we're from and it's culturally inseparable. Everyone has had experience with it, and we make tea from it. It's similar in Wales. They say that mushrooms are quite popular in places where there's not a lot of nightlife (laughs). It's a natural thing, so when you do it, you develop a love for nature. I've never done any artificial drugs.
When we spoke a couple of years ago, you told me that your mother was a medium. You also told me that you had some strange experiences yourself. But recently you have stopped believing in such spiritual things. Why is that? Matthew: I still believe in them sometimes. I do believe that it is possible to make contact with the memories of dead people. Sometimes that contact is through someone's subconscious, but I no longer think that it is necessarily contacting the dead person themselves. I think that you can contact memories, but I don't think you can talk to someone from another world. If you get in a group and look up at the sky and ask "Is there anyone there?", I think it will help your subconscious come out and expand your imagination. We don't realise how many people we have close contact with in our lives, our parents, aunts and uncles, family… If you were close to your parents, you must have been close to your parents' parents, and you must have had a lot of relatives. In that case, your family relationships will spread out widely. Is it the same principle as "Being John Malkovich"? Or maybe my way of thinking changed after seeing that film. Maybe when memories are connected, a new person is born.
Have you ever seen ghosts? Matthew: I see all sorts of things.
But you don't believe in them? Matthew: When I say I've seen them, I'm sure it's just my subconscious. Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes, I do. I'm surrounded by a lot of people who say they see them. Matthew: Hmm. I have to admit that sometimes I'm scared of them, and sometimes I'm not. But sometimes when I see them, I try to think that there's something deep inside me that I'm not aware of. If something terrible happens, I sometimes wonder if it's a horrible memory from the past that the person has erased, or an event from the past that they didn't realise was happening. My girlfriend is studying psychology. So what I'm talking about is actually something she told me.
You're too logical to talk about that kind of spirituality, don't you think? Matthew: (laughs). Logical? Maybe. I'm interested in the uncharted territory and mysteries of humanity too.
Recorded on 26th July in Naeba.

The editor referring Tom Kirk as their best friend in the brackets is a pretty sweet gesture.

Incredibly messy list of reasons why Saiteru is real and why I ship them (with occasional examples)
(and a little fan art to draw the attention)
Disclaimer: I did not read the manga, I watched anime and then searched for examples in manga as in supreme source
A little introduction.
There's a two things about Saiki K. that I need to mention before I will try to prove that Saiki actually likes Teruhashi back.
First of all, hope we can all agree on that, Saiki as the protagonist is unreliable narrator. This comes both from a) the form of the series - the fact that we as viewers don't see things the way Saiki does (just like with his X-ray vision, he's unable to see Teruhashi's appearance, but we actually can - so he says she's not that special or pretty while we can appreciate her beauty) and b) his view of relationships he has. He can deny his friendship with Nendou, Kaido and others all he wants, but we, as viewers see in every episode that he loves them dearly. He can say all he wants about how he's not gonna solve other people problems, but he helps every time and so on.
An secondly (kinda follows the last statement) he is tsundere. Not even kinda tsundere - he's hereditary tsundere and takes this after his grandfather.
Those two points I based my proofs on establish one big thesis - we're not gonna get any real straight verbal confirmation from Saiki that he has any feelings towards anyone, especially Teruhashi. So instead we gonna do what shippers do best - thoroughly search for any indirect evidences that something in fact goes on between them.
This list is based purely on objective and subtle changes in Saiki's patterns of behaviour.
So here's reasons why Saiteru is in fact real in no particular order:
Mixer issue.
The thing going on between Saiki and Teruhashi changes after Mixer date (there's also a post here on the subject of how it changes everything which I do not intend to repeat). I just wanna say that there were a million of ways of how it could go with the basically same outcome. But no. From Saiki actually showing up at the mixer to control things like some sort of power broker to the very end of the issue there is:
Kusuo's irritation at those guys generally;
his mentioning that he knows Teruhashi's preferences (like, yeah, he reads people minds, duh, but how much exactly he had to read her mind to know her favourite song or joke? It's not something you think about all the time, you know);
appreciation of her thoughts about him;
smile;
admitting he would/does enjoy this;
and rock-paper-scissors. This just blows my shipper mind - he actually participated in gambling on Teruhashi and actually won the game on purpose just for the sake of it. Of course it played out as a joke, but guys, GUYS! He literally won Kokomi-chan! On purpose! He participated in something this ... morally questionable, even though if he felt indifferent about her he would'd just thought something like "she's not an object to gamble on her")
Saiki usually tries to ignore his friends inviting him to some special events (New Year eve or Kaido's secret base and so on) until it's absolutely rude to decline or there's a chance something will go wrong or his mom is nearby. But these few times Teruhashi didn't even ask him to go somewhere (milkshake incident, mixer) he avoided her asking him but still followed her around.
He did in fact say "of-fu". Out loud. While being completely silent all the time. No more comments (mic drop).
Cultural festival lottery.
This one is tricky and requires analysis. So there's actually two lotteries involving Teruhashi - first one to choose her group for Okinawa trip and second one is cultural festival committee members. Both lotteries is drawn by Teruhashi knowing she will draw Saiki with Kami-sama's help and Saiki knowing she's gonna succeed. But in the Okinawa lottery he overplays her and uses X-ray vision and telekinesis to change her draw.
And in the cultural festival committee member (which happens after mixer) he just...don't.
And it's not even about avoiding Teruhashi personally, this time it's about avoiding huge pain in the ass cultural festival committee member is. As for me, personally, crush or no crush, I would do everything to not have such responsibilities. And he just chooses not to do anything? Even though this time it would be worse than a trip in one group of six, it would require them actually working together, possibly with no one around.
Cultural festival issue #2. Saiki admitted that their superpowers work together perfectly and when combined they are in fact invincible. While doing something so trivial as school play.
Prior to that he worked together with his actual psi-team with some actual superpowers over something not so trivial (stopped train) and even though he admitted he wouldn't do that with such efficiency without them but he didn't say a word about their powers complementing each other, their working together this well or something like this - but he did say something this cheesy to Teruhashi, your usual perfect bishoujo.
Kusuo felt incredibly irritated when his brother bothered her (and kinda proud of her when he paid him back with her powers). Saiki from first chapters would've just use the crowd to teleport (like he actually did with Teruhashi when he didn't say "of-fu" for the first time) and left those two alone. Also, do you see it here? Saiki, you're being a little bit hypocritical, don't you?
He stops avoiding her or plotting so that she fall out of love with him after mixer issue.
He's incredibly annoyed at her brother but still deals with him instead of just disappearing out of his sight (especially birthday present episode).
I don't actually think that issue with her overwhelming herself fits here. He would do the same for Kaido or anybody of his friends. He's irritated at guys but it kinda rational reaction for him about the cause of someone's suffering. He kinda opposes himself and them, but he has a god complex, he always does this.
He constantly complements her after mixer. Constantly. It's basically praises to her whether they are working together and he complements her superpowers, or he helps her with press club and compliments her anti-stalker skills or her overwhelming herself just to maintain her perfect bishoujo image and he compliments her dedication.
He actually thought that she's pretty at the end of the series. Legitimately. No other comments, just this. Okay, maybe also that I'm happy that he had a chance to look at her without his powers. But also it means that if he really did like her before this, which I think he did, he liked glowing skeleton/humonoid body of muscles. You know, perfect form of liking other person without knowing how they actually look.
Reasons why I personally ship them.
(Obviously) Kami-sama is on Teruhashi's side. No matter what. Like come on guys. Its inevitable at this point. Even Saiki stopped resisting.
Teruhashi feels super comfortable with Saiki's friends - as opposed to literally every other guy in their school when she has to overwhelm herself just to talk to them. On contrary, Nendou, Kaido and Kurosaki usually have no problem hanging out with Teruhashi. Like yeah, they blush sometimes and act like she is blessing them with her presence, but they do not put the same kind of pressure that everybody else does.
They both have super weird (pervert) elder brothers they suffer from.
He sees all her imperfect thoughts and feelings and still choses to respect Teruhashi for both her good qualities and her flaws. (But guys, actually, how great this trope is? Someone knows all your dirtн secrets and bad thoughts and still chooses not only to love you (not talking about Saiki, cause it's debatable, even though I do think he loves her back, but generally speaking) but actually respects you for that?)
Saiki's almost omnipotent powers can't beat Teruhashi's powers of luck and ability to be loved by Kami-sama. And her powers are only powers in the show he has to reckon with constantly and that challenges him on multiple occasions. Not only that - he actually loses to her almost every time. Which is ironic, cause the only time Teruhashi did really lose against him in every possible way - it was the first time she appears in manga, when he didn't say of-fu and she eventually kinda fell in love with him.
This one goes a bit deeper then this post meant to be, but Teruhashi's life is actually terrible. She learned to enjoy it and to get the best out of the situation she's in, but that is truly a nightmare. Her brother is a pervert who is able to give her underwear as a present and wishes he could marry her. All of the boys literally block her way on regular basis. She has a fanclub who can approve or disapprove her social interactions (i don't think she pays much attention to them, but what if she knew they tried to tell her crush not to talk to her?). Press club is constantly after her, trying to take or photoshop embarassing fotos of her (borderline pornography). And every one of them sees her as an object. As a doll. A beautiful picture. So it's only consistent for her as a character to fall for guy who doesn't fall for her act and sees her as she is. It's beautiful. She needs that.
In conclusion (if someone will actually read to this point) I wanna say that for me the best ship is the ship that didn't happen but was implied. Especially with such complicated characters like Saiki K. It gives so much place to debate, to search for subtle evidences that there is some sort of affection or that there's not, to interpret facts and play with them, trying to understand authors intentions and finding some clues and hints...it's just so much more fun that established ships.

Mamoru was puzzled. Sitting on the table was a parcel that Usagi had excitedly brought in just a moment ago. It was about the size of a toaster and wrapped in brown paper and twine. The package was addressed to Mamoru but had no return address or markings.
“I wonder what this is.”
“Eh? I thought you would know. Like maybe you ordered a new coffee maker or some books.” Usagi picked up the box and shook it a little. It seemed fairly light. The contents just sounded like paper shifting around inside.
“I don't remember buying anything.”
“Maybe it's a gift!”
That seemed possible. Just last weekend, Mamoru turned a nice round 20 years of age. The official age of adulthood according to Japan. He celebrated appropriately – a night out with friends from college, punctuated with a special surprise when he came home… Usagi wrapped in a bow.
It was a good birthday.
But who else would be sending him something this late?
Mamoru pulled off the twine and started to unwrap it as Usagi looked on curiously. The box seemed oddly scuffed, but ignoring that he pried open the top.
They were photos. Just an huge cache of photos – loose, mostly candid Polaroids, a couple of framed ones as well. Mamoru turned the box over on the table to look at them. As he spread the contents out, he noticed a small envelope along with them.
“They're all of this man and his son.” Usagi had picked up a handful of photos and was flipping through them. And she was right, they were mostly of a dark-haired man and a boy, smiling and waving at the camera. But something tugged at Mamoru's mind as he stared at them. A stack of family photos addressed to him…
“Hey, Mamo-chan, he kinda looks like…” She trailed off, looking from the photos to Mamoru and back again. The unsaid implication hung in the air.
He had already realized it as well. The man looked familiar. The shape of his face, the color of his eyes… were very much like Mamoru's.
“Dad?”
~~~
Mamoru didn't know how long they sat there, slowly sorting through the pictures. Neither he nor Usagi said a thing. Before today he had no photos of his parents. Growing up at the children's welfare center, he had the same as everyone else: food, clothes, and roof over his head. Not much else. Not even memories.
It wasn't until he was old enough to leave the center that he was confronted by an attorney, who told him about the Chiba inheritance. The woman said that, coupled with the insurance money, the accounts had been handled by a private party and kept safe for the day Mamoru turned fifteen. She assured him that he would be well taken care of: an apartment in Tokyo and already registered to attend the prestigious Azabu High next spring. Besides a few assets that were locked away until he was an adult, the rest of the money was his to do as he pleased.
But it was the first item she handed to him that was the most important: a simple one-page family registry, his parents' names typed out neatly on the sheet:
Father: Chiba Ishiei Mother: Chiba Hiyo.
For nearly five years that was all he needed. Mamoru kept it tucked away in a book among many on his shelf, away from prying eyes. After confronting his visions and meeting Usagi, there was never any question about what he left behind.
Until today.
Now his past was laid bare on this small kitchen table. There were so many photos. All of them were of Mamoru and Ishiei – or should I call him Dad he wondered – doing various things. Going to the park, attending a festival, Mamoru's first steps…
He didn't remember any of it.
Mamoru took a closer look at the mailing box, which he now noticed was much older than he first thought. The cardboard was scuffed and scraped, like it had been shipped many times. Various postmarks were stamped all around it, overlapping once there was no room left. He ran his finger over the faded ink. Okinawa, Honolulu, London, New York, Paris… He could just barely make out the full name of the package's original recipient: Chiba Hiyo. His mother's name.
If these photos were his mother's, then who sent them to Mamoru?
His gaze fell on the little yellow envelope that had tumbled out of the box with the pictures. It looked newer than the rest, crisp and bright. Blank.
A sudden panic clenched his heart. Mamoru was six again, waking up alone and confused. Who was he? Did anybody know? For nearly a decade he had waited in that facility for someone to remember him. And only now was there a response. A distant relative? A stranger? Weren't those both the same thing at this point? An unknown person who knew more about Mamoru's childhood than he did.
Was he afraid?
Before he could be overwhelmed, a gentle warmth enveloped Mamoru from behind.
“Mamo-chan. I'm here with you.”
Usagi had at some point gotten up to embrace him, her arms wrapping protectively around his shoulders. Cradled to her chest like this, he softened as her heartbeat steadied his own.
Mamoru reached up for one of her hands, bringing it to his lips to kiss it. He didn't trust himself to speak yet, but hoped that was enough to tell her how much it meant to him. With his other hand, Mamoru finally picked up the envelope and opened it.
Inside was a letter. He read it silently as Usagi looked over his shoulder, still keeping him in her arms.
Chiba Mamoru
These belong to you. I think it's about time for both of us to have closure. If you'd like to meet, I'll be waiting at Cafe Toujour, August 30th at 3pm. This will be last and only time.
Your benefactor, Kusaka Toshie
It was short, almost terse.
“Kusaka Toshie…” Mamoru repeated the name under his breath. It didn't ring any bells.
“Do you know him?” she asked softly.
“I don't recognize it but…”
He remembered what that attorney had said those five years ago. “A private party” had handled Mamoru's funds while he was at the welfare home. Was it this Kusaka person?
“….it's complicated,” Mamoru sighed. His brain was exhausted from running in circles. It wasn't that he didn't want to share this with her, but Mamoru himself didn't understand that part of his life very well. Somehow, it seemed a lot scarier than fighting aliens or evil. At least he had practice with that.
Usagi didn't press it, instead kissing the top of his head comfortingly. She picked up one of the photos and smiled at the scene: Ishiei giving toddler Mamoru a piggyback ride.
“You look really happy in these.”
She held him closer as he kissed her hand again.
What to do about the letter could wait until tomorrow.
(an extra fanfic bit from this.)
Getting back to the music
This weekend I stepped out of the BTS bubble partly due to work pressures but also partly by choice. I have a long and varied past, fangirling over fictional characters, but discovering BTS has probably been my first experience of parasocial interactions with real people and to be honest it shocked me to find out how invested you can become in the life of someone you have never met, living more than 5000 miles away.
There has been a lot of shit going down lately both inside and outside the fandom and it's been taking all the fun out of being here. So I've been asking myself why did I start this blog, why am I still here and what are the things that I can and want to do with it?
First and foremost, I am here for the music. I commented before on BTS's role in my musical listening renaissance. Discovering them was part of that, yes, but with them I also discovered multiple generations of Korean and other global artists.
So this weekend I've been concentrating on the music.
Listening to FACE listening to D-Day and putting together playlists that showcase these two talented guys but also other Korean and Japanese artists with a reminder that musical success isn't all about the numbers.
It's about making that connection with your audience. It's about having one of your songs make it to their forever playlist. It's about having another song make them smile as they sit drinking their latte at the coffee shop after a long bike ride.
We are used to big numbers as ARMY but there are plenty of really talented artists on Spotify that could never dream of the sales or the streaming that is being achieved for members of BTS.
Our guys are doing fine. They are in the privileged position of being able to do what they love and now, in the solo era, being able to explore their own interests and demonstrate their individuality through the music they produce.
Through their musical collaborations and Instagram recommendations they also throw a light on other talented South Korean artists with their own trajectory and extensive musical back catalogue to be explored.
Balming Tiger, So Yoon, Woosung and The Rose and Silica Gel just to mention a few I've encountered over the last couple of years thanks to different members of BTS.
And the BTS influence doesn't stop at the South Korean border. Also this weekend, I have been listening to Samara Joy, the American jazz singer that V posted on Instagram. She has an incredible voice. Today I booked tickets to see her at the London Jazz Festival in November.
Finally, it's already the 24th April in South Korea and time to celebrate one year of the release of With You by Jimin and Ha Sung Woon. This was my number one Spotify tune of 2022 and still has pride of place on many of my playlists.
I'm looking forward to whatever BTS members have next for us while enjoying the smorgasbord of great music we already have at our fingertips.
