Happy âween!! I am a day late, because I had to work yesterday and only now I could finish this.
When I showed Youâll Find Out to my friends I kept describing it as what if Scooby Doo was a big band instead of a group of teens. I mean thatâs basically the movie. You got a spooky mystery, thereâs a dog, and a couple a villains. Itâs an early Scooby movie.

i'm fine. i'm fine....
all stars must die one day
SYNOPSIS: itâs always been him- stupidly perfect and handsome Alhaitham who you saw as the bane of your academic achievements. Three years later and now so much has changed. He misses you. He misses your endless bickering and meaningless fights. Why did you change so much? Itâs a mystery he makes up his mind to resolve.
CHARACTERS: Alhaitham, gossip circle consisting of Kaveh, Tighnari, and Lisa + the rest of the Sumeru cast
TAGS: heavy angst w/fluff, academic burnout, burnt-out gifted kid, mild profanity, gn reader, reader is briefly mentioned to be shorter than Alhaitham, toxic family dynamics, 15.7k+ word count
NOTES: college decisions and my experiences from the past two years really compelled me to write this. If youâre going through burnout, know that youâre not alone and that you can do this.
this took me almost half a year to finish wtf
Thereâs a comet that crosses Sumeruâs skies only once in a lifetime.Â
Alhaitham had heard some Rtawahsit students discussing it the other day. They were practically buzzing with excitement over the news of its reappearance.
âIsnât this the perfect opportunity?â
âHow lucky are we to be able to witness it?â
âEven our professors are excited about it!â
Alhaitham couldnât care less. The phenomena of celestial events, while dazzling, are easily explained by science. Itâs not like they were anything special either. At their heart, theyâre composed of ordinary materials- rock, dust, water, and ice, plus other chemicals.Â
He puts it out of his mind until heâs rudely awoken one night by loud noises outside the window. A flash of annoyance runs through him as he gets up and looks out to glare at the crowd of students passing through. A glance at their berets tells him theyâre Rtawahsit students. Theyâre trying their best to be quiet, but when itâs practically an entire Darshan on the move, that becomes a difficult task.Â
It seems as if heâs not the only one that was woken up. Other familiar faces are peeking through cracked-open windows. Lisa, Cyno, and Tighnari all yawn while watching the crowd of students pass by before looking at each other and following them. Kaveh, who has just woken up from his spot across the room, gives Alhaitham one last look before leaving.
Alhaitham closes the window and flops back onto his bed. He covers his ears with his pillow and closes his eyes, attempting to fall back asleep. He never cared for what other people thought or did, so why should he blindly follow the crowd? He wasnât even curious anyway.
But for some strange reason, he canât seem to fall asleep. He tosses and turns, squeezing his eyes shut in frustration, before finally getting up to put his restless mind at ease.Â
Itâs easy to figure out where everyone has gone. All he has to do is follow the sounds of chatter. It leads him to the top of the Divine Tree the city is built upon. There, Rtawahsit students are busy setting up their telescopes while others have pen and paper at their disposal for note-taking. Professors guide said students while those from other Darshans watch on in curiosity and gaze at the sky in anticipation.Â
Tighnari and the others beckon him over. He squeezes himself into the secluded corner they claimed for themselves, poking Kaveh with his limbs intentionally in the process. To his surprise, youâre there too. You lean against Lisaâs arm and shoot him a little glare that lacks any real hate before turning back to the sky, glaring at him when he decides to sit in front of you and block your view.Â
âLook!â shouts a student. âItâs started!â
Almost immediately, everybody goes silent. Only the sounds of birds and wildlife can be heard, along with the quiet breathing of everyone searching wildly for it.
(Heâs acutely aware of the warm puffs of air that tickle the back of his neck when you exhale. It shouldnât be this distracting, but it is. Is this your way of getting back at him?)
Thereâs an excited gasp from a girl with her telescope. She wildly gestures toward the sky and Alhaitham sees a bright speck of light out of the corner of his eye. Several smaller meteors zip through the sky, but everybodyâs attention is on the largest one. It outshines all the other stars in the sky as it speeds by, heating up into a white-hot glow and leaving a glittering trail of blue stardust behind. It is a star not of this world, speeding onward toward its destination- toward something greater.Â
âLook,â he hears Lisa whisper. He briefly tears his attention from the sky to see her lean toward you. âMake a wish.â
Alhaitham sees you close your eyes for a moment before opening them again. What did you just wish for?
Itâs gone in just a few minutes, heading toward the horizon until not even a pinprick of its light can be seen anymore. The sky is now dark again. With the main event over, most people begin getting up to return to their rooms. His eyes linger on your form, now walking away. Lisaâs voice from earlier repeats in his head.
âMake a wish.â
Itâs a childish belief not rooted in reason- he knows that. But for just a second, he closes his eyes and makes a wish.Â
He met you at the start of his first year.Â
Itâs too loud here. I want to go home already.
From his seat in the back of the room, he watches as spots gradually fill up as the start time draws nearer. Much to his delight, everybody leaves his spot in the back of the classroom alone, instead opting to sit toward the front.Â
That is until someone sits down in the row in front of him. He looks up from the pages of his book, slightly annoyed. Curses, now he couldnât be by himself anymore. But they leave him alone and keep to themselves as the professor walks in and introduces himself and the class, so he tolerates it.Â
Thereâs a light tap on his desk. He looks up to see you watching him expectantly. Heâs able to get his first good look at you now. Your Akademiya uniform is a little too big on you and the sleeves drape over your hands. Your green hat sits lopsidedly on your head and you have the air of a starry-eyed and enthusiastic first-year student.Â
âYes?âÂ
âThe professor told us to introduce ourselves to those around us,â you explain. âIâm (Name).â
âAlhaitham. Pleased to meet you.â
You nod in response and turn back around. Your professor is explaining the course and handing the syllabus out, but your mind wanders toward the guy sitting behind you whom youâve just met.Â
Heâs cute, you think to yourself. In like, a little kid or puppy kind of way. Heâs still a little short and scrawny- wait, how old is he anyway? Donât tell me heâs one of those child prodigies that got in at a super young age⊠Or maybe heâs just a late bloomer, who knows?Â
A few weeks later, the results of your first test roll around. The 98 scribbled and circled in red ink at the top of the paper makes you nod in satisfaction. Itâs indicative of a good start, but when you take a look at the board in front of the class, you see someone has gotten a perfect score.Â
And it turns out the culprit himself sits right behind you.Â
You glare at the 100% in red ink at the top of his page as if it has personally offended you. As if to further insult you, there was a small âgood job!â written in the margins by the professor that you didnât have on your paper.Â
âA 98? Good, but not perfect. Perhaps you should have studied more,â he nonchalantly remarks after seeing yours. Your eye twitches in irritation.
Oh, it is so on.Â
From that day onward, you swore to yourself that you would beat Alhaitham, no matter what it took. Even if it meant sleepless nights spent hunched over your notes and textbooks, they were all a price you were willing to pay to prove that you were the undisputed best.Â
Soon after, you donât see Alhaitham in class anymore. His seat behind you is left unoccupied and you hear rumors that he opted for self-study instead- whatever that was. Despite that, he still gets top marks in everything, only serving to annoy you and spur you onward.Â
However, you still see him at the library, and frequently at that. Itâs somewhat surprising, considering that the Akasha Terminal has the same function and is more convenient. As a result, the library is mostly empty save for the few students that are there to study materials that arenât entered into the Akashaâs database. Youâre there because you prefer the quiet, focused environment of the library to your dorm, which despite the Akademiya and its students' almost religious devotion to academics, can get a little too rowdy for your liking at times. Plus, you prefer the feeling of a physical book in your hands over its digitized counterpart in the Akasha. It makes it easier to take notes and learn that way.Â
Recently, youâve found a spot in the library that youâve taken a liking to. Itâs located in the back and obscured by bookshelves, giving you some much-needed privacy while you study and itâs located by a window, allowing for ample natural light.
But apparently, someone else has already claimed it, unbeknownst to you.Â
âThis is my spot.â
You donât even look up from your book. The voice alone was a dead giveaway as to who was speaking.Â
âAnd? I didnât see your name on it.â
Alhaitham sits at the seat across from you, purposefully spreading his books and other materials across the desk to push yours off to the side. A satisfied smirk twitches at the corners of his lips when he sees your eyes narrow in irritation.Â
âAre you here just to bother me?â
âIf I wanted to bother you, Iâd find other ways to do it.âÂ
You huff in annoyance and turn the page. He watches you over the top of his book with intrigue as you alternate between reading and taking notes.Â
â... Will you quit staring at me like that? Itâs distracting.â
âOh? So youâre admitting that Iâm a distraction?â
âYou-!â
A sharp hiss to be quiet from a librarian passing by silences you both temporarily. You glare at him accusingly, which he merely brushes off.
Thereâs a reluctant compromise that arises between you after that. Every day after class, you would meet at the same spot in the library to study. You would sit across from each other and work independently from each other until it was time to go, where youâd then say your goodbyes before heading your separate ways. Rinse and repeat and that was what your average day looked like.Â
âSo, whatâs up with that thing between you and (Name)?â
You pause from your studying after overhearing that line and look up. Across the clearing are Alhaitham and a blond-haired man. Kaveh, if you recall his name correctly.Â
âI donât know what youâre trying to imply,â replies Alhaitham.Â
âIs there some sort of competition between you two? Whenever I see you guys, youâre basically at each otherâs throats over test scores and stuff.â
âThere is no such competition. That would be a pointless waste of my time and energy.âÂ
The urge to throw your book at his head across the clearing is strong, but youâll settle for Kaveh giving him a doubtful expression.
âYou say that and yet youâve been putting more work into your studies than ever.âÂ
âThatâs none of your business.âÂ
But for all your efforts, you canât seem to catch up to him. He was always one step- or rather, one point- ahead of you. Heâd always be there, subtly rubbing his achievements right in your face even though the difference is practically negligible at least half of the time.Â
It gets to the point where you begin to rant about your troubles to Lisa.Â
âCan you believe this guy? It makes me wonder if heâs a sadist of some sort that gets a kick out of annoying me.âÂ
Youâre sitting outside in one of the many gazebos around the Akademiya. Despite studying under a different Darshan, you quickly became friends with her.
She laughs lightly at your words.
âTo me, it sounds like your poor heart is troubled! Shall doctor Lisa perform a checkup on you?â
You swat her hand away.
âDonât play with me like that. And youâre not even an Amurta student!â
You hear footsteps coming down the pathway and speak of the devil, the topic of your conversation is walking toward you, his book in hand as always. You watch him out of the corner of your eye. He meets your gaze and holds it for several long, agonizing seconds before looking forward again and disappearing out of sight. You shudder and look away, Lisa chuckling lightly at your actions.
âAsshole,â you grumble. âWhatâs his problem? And did you see how cold his eyes were? Makes me wonder if the rumors of him having a heart of ice are trueâŠâÂ
Lisa hesitates at that.Â
âIâm afraid thatâs where youâre wrong, (Name).â
âHuh? What do you mean?â
She purses her lips and looks off to the side.Â
âItâs hard to explain, even for me. But youâll see and come to understand in due time how acutely aware he is of the emotions of those around him, especially those he is close to.â
You think you understand the meaning of her words a few weeks later when the results of a particularly rough test greet you.
75%
Damn it, you think before roughly shoving the papers into your bag, away from the prying eyes of your classmates. I canât falter here now. I still have so much more to do.
âI can tutor you if youâd like. I donât offer this to just anyone, so Iâd advise you to consider it,â Alhaitham says in the library later that day. You know that most people would kill for this opportunity and you werenât blinded by jealousy to the point where you couldnât see the benefit of his offer.Â
But your pride prevents you from accepting it.
âThanks, but Iâm fine. Iâd rather do this myself.âÂ
Another time, Alhaitham has to get up at a time when he should be asleep. Earlier that day, he had left a book of his behind and forgotten about it until now, leaving him to search the now-dark and empty halls of the Akademiya for where it might be.Â
He happens to pass by the House of Daena on the way and sees a solitary lamp lit in the back corner where he usually frequents. Out of sheer curiosity, he steps inside to see thereâs a familiar figure hunched over the desk, clearly fast asleep with piles upon piles of books and notes stacked around them.Â
Alhaitham gazes down at you with his ever-impassive eyes, silently wondering what to do next. A cold gust of air blows through the library and he shivers slightly. He looks down at your exposed arms, then at his jacket, before taking it off and draping it over your form. Catching a cold would serve you no good and youâd most likely return it to him later tomorrow.Â
Before he leaves, his curiosity gets the better of him and he takes a quick peek at your notes.Â
His eyes widen ever so slightly. Much of the material scattered around your desk was far ahead of what you were and needed to be learning. Did you borrow these books and notes from upperclassmen? The handwriting is a mix of yours and someone elseâs⊠He doesnât see the point in you doing so- itâs all just unnecessary work, in his opinion. Either way, itâs none of his business and you can do as you please, but Alhaitham canât help but wonder if you were doing all of this just to stay ahead- to keep up or even surpass him.
He leaves and you wake up soon after to something warm and soft covering your shoulders. Itâs a standard Akademiya-issued jacket for the fall and winter terms. Itâs way too big on you and the sleeves completely cover your hands. Curiously, you pull it tighter around your form. It smells nice- like old books and coffee- and you suddenly realize who it belongs to. Your face suddenly flushes and itâs not from the warmth of the jacket.
Alhaitham-!
The next day, Alhaitham arrives at his usual spot in the library. Youâre sitting across from him as usual and interestingly refuse to make eye contact with him.
Sumeruâs climate has always been temperate, but the days are getting longer and warmer now. Youâve finally shed your winter uniform for your spring one and with the end of the year rapidly approaching comes major tests. The library is the most packed it's ever been with students everywhere cramming last-minute. Itâs rare to find an empty table now, but thankfully your spot in the back with Alhaitham is still left unoccupied. If not, Alhaithamâs cold glare is more than enough to scare them away.Â
For one of your classes, itâs a project instead of a test. You have the option to choose the type of project, but for some stupid reason, your professor was still assigning partners instead of being able to choose.
âAnd (Name), letâs see⊠hmm, Iâll pair you up with Alhaitham. How does that sound?â
Your blood runs cold and you hear your classmates snicker around you. You want to scream at the prospect of it. Sumeru would sooner freeze over before the two of you cooperate and he knows it. You catch him staring at you out of the corner of your eye, daring you to say no.Â
You swallow your pride and nod. The tips of your ears burn and at that moment, you wish the ground would open up and swallow you whole.Â
â... That sounds fine.â
How humiliating.
Later that day in the library, heâs even more infuriating than normal, if thatâs even possible. His face betrays nothing but you can hear the smugness dripping from his voice and mannerisms. His arms crossed in front of his chest, the way he would subtly look down on you with that know-it-all gaze⊠it all made you want to punch his (handsome) face.Â
âDonât fall behind now,â he says once youâve finally settled on a project.
âLetâs see if you can even keep up with me.âÂ
Your project is relatively straightforward but involves a lot of cooperation between you two. As you work, it becomes an all-too-common sight to see you arguing everywhere you go, much to the irritation of others.
âIâm telling you, this character has to be symbolic of rebirth! Why else would we see it so concentrated in scripts that were dated toward the end of that civilization?â
âYou seem to be forgetting that this has also been seen elsewhere. Besides, there are reasons to believe that it means something else.â
âWhat, did it get lost in translation? If you think youâre so smart, then go ahead and enlighten me.âÂ
You glare at him as he sips his coffee (with milk and two sugars, you note. Just the way he likes it).Â
âGod, can they just kiss already?â grumbles Kaveh from where he sits across the room. Lisa and Tighnari sitting at the same table nodded in agreement.
âMeeting up to work outside of class is normal, but over lunch? Sounds like a date to me,â complains Tighnari while not-so-subtly eyeing the way you animatedly bicker with him.Â
âHey, isnât this Alhaithamâs treat as well?â asks Kaveh. Tighnariâs ears twitch and perk up at his question. He glances at the both of you- Alhaitham just paused to ask if youâd like a refill of your tea, and you said yes- before groaning.
âIt sure looks like itâŠâ
Lisa decides to take matters into her own hands.
âAre you two arguing or flirting?â she asks in a loud voice.
âArguing!â you retort. Alhaitham merely rolls his eyes and steals one of your samosas while you arenât looking.Â
âI saw that! Give it back!â
âToo late.âÂ
Two months, lots of bickering, and lots of coffee later, you present the culmination of your work to the class. For all the headaches and lost sleep you had to endure, your efforts are handsomely rewarded with a perfect score and rare compliments from your professor. And for that alone, it was well worth everything you went through.Â
âGood job. It was a rewarding experience working with you. I daresay that our arguments aside, we make for a decent team.âÂ
You look up to see Alhaitham.
âOh? A rare compliment from the stoic and sharp-tongued man himself?â
âDonât make me retract my words.â
âOuch, how cold of you.âÂ
When you return to your dorm later that night, thereâs a note addressed to you from Lisa.
I overheard one of your professors talking about you and Alhaitham with someone else today- Professor Behnam, I think that was his name? Iâm fairly sure this was after you guys presented because they mentioned that briefly. I wrote this down in a hurry as they were speaking, but hereâs what he said:
They complement each other perfectly. While they both have unmatched erudition and wit, one has the creativity and uninhibited ambition the other tends to lack. However, he is more pragmatic and logical. Despite their differences, they make for a perfect team.
They will surely be among some of the best scholars the Akademiya has seen in a long time.
You end your first year tied for the top of the class with him.
âIâm home!â
âWelcome home, (Name)! How were your last few weeks at the Akademiya?â
Your parentsâ home is as warm and welcoming as always. The house has been freshly cleaned and is practically shining. They take your bags and usher you into the kitchen, where your favorite dishes are sitting on the kitchen table, freshly cooked for dinner with steam still rising from them.
âItâs been fine,â you say. âStressful, but also enjoyable. I like my classes and I get along with my classmates and professors.âÂ
âHow are your grades? Have they been finalized yet?â
You nod and beam them with pride.
âEnded the year at the top of the class.â
Your parentsâ eyes widen and they clap excitedly.
âThatâs our child!â
âAs brilliant and talented as always!â
âGood, keep going! Remember to study for money!â
âI will!â
Your mother leans in close and clasps your hand in hers. âAfter these four years, you should continue your education and become a sage! Maybe even work your way up and become the next Grand Sage!â
You balk at the prospect of it.
âA-A sage? Mom, there are tons of talented people in the Akademiya- thatâs where the best of the best go to study! The chances that Iâll make it to that point are slim!â
Your father clicks his tongue and shakes his head.Â
âNonsense!â he exclaims. âYou ended this year at the top of your class, you know. Besides, you inherited the intelligence of both your parents- Iâd imagine that this would be a doable task for you. Also, imagine how amazing it would be if you were to become a sage! Youâd be the first one in the family! Wouldnât that be such an achievement for us?â
âThatâs not even true! There was someone else who tied with me for the top of the class as well and if Iâm being honest, he has a better shot at it than me!â
Your momâs eyes sharpen and you instantly regret saying that.Â
âHe? So⊠a guy, huh?â
You mentally brace yourself for a barrage of questions.
âWhatâs his name? Whatâs he like? How smart is he? Is he good enough for you? Does he have-â
âDear, stop it,â your father says. âLook, youâre overwhelming them.â
You sigh and shake your head. âFor starters, his name is Alhaitham-â
âAlhaitham? Iâve heard that name somewhere before⊠wait, I remember now!â exclaims your father. âHis grandmother was a Ksharewar scholar. His mother was a renowned Vahumana scholar and his father was a mentor in Haravatat.â
âWas?â you ask. Your father bites his lip and looks away.
â... His grandmother passed away a few years ago and from what I heard, so did his parents when he was young.âÂ
âOh.âÂ
The kitchen is silent for a few moments before your father breaks it.
âWait, (Name), why do you look so surprised? I thought you knew this already, considering heâs your rival and everything! I thought you would at least know something about him.â
âDad, thatâs exactly the point- weâre rivals and I donât want to know anything about him! All that matters is beating him at his own game and thatâs that. Besides, he never tells me anything about his personal life, so why should I do the same?â
âTheyâre right, you know.â
Your father merely rolls his eyes at your motherâs remark.Â
âYou know the rules, donât get too close to him now,â your mother warns. âYou have to do whatever it takes to be the best, whatever? Thatâs what you promised us.â
You roll your eyes. âYes, mom, I know. Iâll do my best to become a sage.â
Your parents lean in to hold you close, your mother giving you a soft kiss on the forehead.
âThatâs our child. Make us proud, ok?â
âI will!â
After a lovely three months of summer vacation (and not being forced to see Alhaitham every day save for the rare occasions where youâd run into him in public- youâd immediately turn the other way and act as if nothing happened), you head back to the Akademiya for your second year. Like last year, you share many of your classes with the bane of your existence, although things are⊠less tense than they were before. The underlying spark of competition is still there, but not as prominent as before.
Alhaitham is pleasantly surprised at how youâve mellowed out over the summer. Something in your eyes has hardened and the way your mouth is set is different now. Youâve lost some of the baby fat in your cheeks (shame, he enjoyed poking and prodding at them, much to your annoyance) and youâve grown a bit taller as well. Heâs grown taller as well and to your irritation, heâs gaining on you. Heâs put on some muscle as well and according to Kaveh, who you befriended over the summer, heâs started learning the art of the sword.
(âWhat for?â you had asked back then. He had merely shrugged.
âToo much free time on his hands, I guess. I thought he was training to be a mercenary at first.â
âI just canât imagine him with a sword. In my mind, I see him toppling over from the weight of it.â
âSame here.â)
On the first day back, you merely greet him with a nod and youâre less opposed to working with him than before- although you canât seem to break the habit of making a sarcastic jab at him now and then.
As the year progresses though, Alhaitham notices a change in you- namely, your test scores. He catches a glimpse of them sticking out of your folder at the library.
85%. 75%. 83%. 79%. Theyâre not as good as they were last year but they arenât a concern for Alhaitham. As far as he knows, youâre still doing good overall and your classes are getting harder. Itâs only reasonable and he hasnât observed any noticeable or drastic changes in your personality, so it doesnât warrant any concern.Â
That is, in his eyes. The same canât be said for you though.
You didn't realize how much time you had spent studying until the library was closed one day. Sitting at your cramped desk with your roommate you barely know nowhere in sight, youâre suddenly aware of how quiet it is. Normally, youâd hear at least something- people arguing down the hall and music playing, among others. But today, it was eerily silent.Â
From the back of your mind, you recall news of a party that was supposed to be happening around this time. Lisa extended an invitation to you but you turned it down, claiming that you had to study. It was a bullshit excuse, now that you think about it.Â
(Lisa had looked at you knowingly when you said that, but not in a good way. Worry was present in her eyes, resigned to the fact that she couldnât do anything.
âAlright,â she had said. âJust⊠donât head down the path I think youâre on.â)
Your pen freezes mid-stroke as a horrifying thought crosses your mind. You now finally understand the true meaning of her words.Â
Have I⊠been making the right decisions? How much have I missed out on?Â
Your books and the allure of good grades tempt you, but you force yourself to evaluate your life so far. You have some of the highest marks in the entire class but you realize you have almost no experience or connections, and that was what really mattered.
All of the studying in the world canât compare to pulling a few strings, after all. Â
Not long after the year starts, Alhaitham notices that youâve started going out more. Youâre spending less of your time at the library during weekends and instead spending time with friends in the city.Â
(âYou actually have a life outside of the Akademiya. Iâm surprised.â
âI should be the one telling you that.â)
âCome on, (Name), come join us at the tavern tonight! We booked the place and everyone is going to be there! Youâre missing out if you donât, just sayingâŠâ
The familiar voice belonging to a certain blond makes you look up. You huff a sigh and set your notes down to glare at Kaveh, who has been pestering you to go to a party at Lambadâs Tavern tonight. Youâre about to tell him youâre not interested when you stop just short of saying so.
Will I regret saying no?
â(Name), youâre young right now! Take some risks and live life a little, otherwise, youâll have nothing to look back fondly on once youâre all old and wrinkly! That old dusty rock-of-a-friend Alhaitham would say the same thing, you know⊠although, maybe heâd phrase it differently.â
Kavehâs right, you realize. I can make up a test. I can always study later. But Iâm only young for a little while. I canât make up for lost time.Â
âJust curious- whatâs in it for me?â
âOh, the usual. Free food, entertainment, a break from these stupid books, alcohol- oh, and you might get to see a rare drunk Alhaitham there! Doesnât that sound exciting?â
âNo need to venture into that territory. You already had me at the free food part. So, what time?â
Later that evening at the tavern, you realize Kaveh wasnât kidding when he said everyone was going to be there- he really did mean everyone the moment you step inside. Lisa is the center of attention with wide-eyed students gawking at her alcohol tolerance- seriously, how is she not drunk yet?- while Tighnari stands in the corner with his ears folded over and eyes squeezed shut. Cynoâs glare is more than enough to scare anyone away as he leads the fox hybrid upstairs toward a quieter spot.Â
Thereâs enough alcohol being passed around to knock a Sumpter Beast unconscious. You only have a few drinks, not wanting to be hungover on a weekday. At one point, a familiar voice drifts its way over to you.
â(Name), over here!â
Itâs Kaveh, and⊠Alhaitham next to him is drunk from the looks of it? His face is flushed and he stumbles as he walks with Kaveh being the only thing stopping him from faceplanting onto the floor.Â
âI thought Alhaitham could handle his alcohol?â you ask as you sling one of his arms around your shoulder and make your way out the tavern.Â
âHe does, but he tried a new type of alcohol tonight that was stronger than he expected. Fire-something⊠itâs from Snezhnaya, if that explains anything.â
You glance at his heavily flushed face again and sigh.
âYeah, that explains everything.â
After lugging Alhaitham across Sumeru City and up the many steps leading to the Akademiya, youâre prepared to say goodnight to Kaveh and head back to your dorm when you feel something latch onto your shirt. Itâs Alhaitham and even in his drunken stupor, heâs surprisingly strong. Â
âWait.â
âWhat is it?â you ask after a moment of hesitation. His answer is instant.
âDonât go,â he slurs out.Â
Heâs drunk, you remind yourself. Donât take anything he says at face value.
But even so, you spot the opportunity to tease him.Â
âOh? And why is that?â
âBecause⊠youâre one of my only friends.â
You go quiet at that. Nothing could have prepared you for that response. Every witty remark and sarcastic jab you had prepared on the tip of your tongue fizzled out instantly. Even Kaveh, who has no shortage of words when it comes to Alhaitham, falls silent.Â
In the year or so that youâve known Alhaitham for, heâs never been one to get close with people, instead preferring to keep them at armâs length. Most likely, itâs the alcohol inhibiting his filter, but you canât ignore the little flutter in your stomach at his words.Â
âI guess you are one to me as well, Haitham. I-â
âSay that again.â
His sudden demand makes you pause. Despite his drunken state, thereâs a fire in his eyes that briefly makes you question whether heâs sober.
â... I guess you are one-â
He stops you. âNo. Not that. Repeat what you said at the very end of it.â
âHaitham?â
âCall me that again.â
âHaitham.â
âAgain.â
A smile creeps onto your face now that youâve finally caught on. How cute.Â
âHaitham.â
âAgain.â
And secretly inside, youâre happy. Happy that someone considers you a friend for the first time. You no longer feel dehumanized from idolization or isolated from everyone else and you realize itâs what youâve been secretly wishing for this whole time.Â
âGoodnight, Haitham.â
Itâs now a common occurrence between you two to drag each other to activities on the weekends. One day, itâs Alhaitham camping out with you late at night to go stargazing. (â(Name), this is boring.â âYou can go home if you want. I wonât stop you.â âHmph.â) Another day, itâs him inviting you to the various coffee shops throughout the city and sampling their beverages. (âThe shop we went to last week does a pour-over better.â âYou think so too?â)
Another time, youâre heading back to the Akademiya after a day of shopping and playing Genius Invocation (he lost miserably several times in a row to you, much to his embarrassment). Itâs been overcast the whole day and the air has been humid but you nervously brushed off the weatherâs warning signs.
Something wet lands on your cheek. You blink and look up, then at the ground where raindrops are rapidly dotting the surface. You meet Alhaithamâs gaze, the rising panic in your eyes apparently visible because he pulls you toward the souvenir shop, where you both seek shelter against the escalating downpour. Sheets of rain crash against the ground and the sides of buildings and the gusts of wind make the trees sway violently.Â
(You both, like idiots, forgot to bring your umbrellas. In the middle of Sumeruâs rainy season.)Â
You can barely see past your two feet but you can make out something moving nearby, and itâs getting closer. Small, gray, and most definitely sopping wet, itâs⊠a cat?
The small creature pauses and runs as fast as it can toward you. You take your hat off and scoop it up, where it meows pitifully and sneezes. A quick check tells you that the cat is a girl.Â
â(Name), what-â
âLook, Haitham,â you whisper as you shrug your jacket off and dry the cat. âPoor baby must have gotten stranded and lost in the rain. She came running to us for help.â
The cat shakes off the last of the rain clinging to her fur and now you can see that she resembles Alhaitham quite a bit with her gray fur and green eyes. You wonder if she has his attitude as wellâŠÂ
âI wonder if sheâs someoneâs pet cat that ran away.âÂ
âSheâs probably one of the cityâs many strays. I donât see a collar on her.â
âSheâs well-fed for oneâŠâ you grumble, noting her plump belly. âSo, can we keep her?â
â(Name), you know animals, unless theyâre service animals, are not allowed in Akademiya dorms.â
âThat hasnât stopped people though. Someone on my floor snuck their pet cat into the dorms and itâs an open secret among all of us.â
âBut still-â
And then you hit him with puppy eyes. The edges of your mouth quiver and turn down, while your eyes soften and go wide.Â
âPlease?â
His resolve crumbles instantly.
âFine. But youâre keeping it.â
You sheepishly smile. âAbout thatâŠâ
What now?
âMy roommate is a blabbermouth and a stickler for the rules. If I kept her, she would be gone and back on the streets before noon tomorrow.â
âAre you suggesting that I take care of her?â
âAre you against it?â
âTaking care of an animal is a big responsibility, (Name). One that requires time and-â
âI can help you take care of her. With the two of us looking after her, it shouldnât be a problem.â
âI canât tell if youâre being optimistic or oversimplifying the problem here.âÂ
You roll your eyes and Alhaitham looks off to the side.
âIâll have to ask Kaveh-â
âKaveh would be over the moon at the prospect of you bringing home a cat. You know how much he loves animals. This cat will be in good hands under his and our care.âÂ
Looks like he now has no other choice but to say yes. He heaves a deep sigh and looks back up at you.
âFine. Iâll keep her in my room.âÂ
Your face lights up.
âBut first, we need to give her a name.âÂ
You scrunch your brows and think for a moment.
âHow about Thamina?â
âThamina,â he repeats. âMeaning valuable or priceless. It fits well.âÂ
You become a frequent visitor to Kaveh and Alhaithamâs dorm after that. It gets to the point where Alhaitham gives you his copy of the spare key so you could come and go as you please (to which Kaveh gives him a knowing look that he pointedly ignores for his own sake). At first, you primarily visited to take care of Thamina, but at some point, you began visiting primarily for him.Â
Study sessions slowly move from the House of Daena to his room, with him at his desk and you sitting on his bed. Thamina bears witness to the heated debates shared between you two in the late hours of the night and the quiet moments of studying. Alhaitham is there to keep her company throughout the day, but she patiently waits for you after a long day of classes. She watches as you two steal each otherâs belongings and food (occasionally joining in if she smelled fish in the box you brought home from a late-night dinner). When there is a disagreement between you two, sheâs there to help you reconcile in the form of demanding affection and cuddles.Â
But when she and Kaveh are fast asleep, only you two are privy to the heavy conversations that happen once and are never brought up again.Â
âTell me more about your family, Haitham.âÂ
He freezes, then casts a suspicious glance at you over his shoulder.
âWhere is this question coming from? And why?â
You shrug.
âI just wanted to know more about the people that raised you to become the person you are today.â
â... My grandmother raised me,â he says after a moment of hesitation. âI admittedly donât know much about my parents- only that my mother was a renowned Vahumana scholar and my father was a mentor in Haravatat. They both died in an accident, thus leaving me under my grandmotherâs care.â
You make yourself comfortable on his bed and nod, urging him to continue.Â
âMy grandmother was a Kshahrewar scholar. By the time I was born, she had already retired. As such, she had a lot of free time. We did a lot of things together.â
He pauses to recount his fading memories of her.Â
âShe liked to bake. Her desserts were on the sweeter side, but I have the recipes. I can tweak them so theyâre less sweet for you.â
âIâd like that very much.â
âShe liked to cook as well. Iâd often wake up to the smell of food in the kitchen and sheâd be there at the stove. Sheâd make my favorites and always save most of it or the best parts for me. Unlike with baking, she never used any recipes for her cooking. Iâve tried to imitate her dishes, but itâs never exactly the same as I remember.â
Haithamâs bed is comfy, you note. You pull the covers over yourself, feeling your eyelids grow heavier.Â
âWere you a chubby child who was spoiled by grandma?â you tease.
âYes,â he admits.Â
You giggle. âI wish I could have seen you as a kid, chubby cheeks and all.âÂ
There are baby photos his grandma kept that he now has, but heâll never tell you that.Â
âLike you, she was more of a tea person than a coffee person. She liked hers sweetened while I liked mine more plain. She never knew where she left her reading glasses and sheâd always ask me to find them. When I was younger, sheâd read a bedtime story to me every night. If there was nothing we were doing, Iâd spend the whole day on her lap as she read the books of my choosing aloud to me. One of the last things she told me was that I was so similar to my father, both in nature and appearance. And more than anything else, she was kind.â
âYou miss her, donât you?â
âYes. I miss her a lot.â
âYour grandma sounds like an amazing person,â you sleepily mumble. âI would have liked to meet her.â
The last thing you hear before finally drifting off is Alhaithamâs whispered response.
âShe would have liked to meet you too.â
And the next night, the conversation is equally as heavy.
âHey, Haitham.â
âWhat is it?â he whispers back.
âDo you think that.. I donât know, that Iâm not quite who I used to be?â
Alhaitham sets his pen down.
âWhat do you mean by that?â
âDo you think Iâve changed in more ways than one?â
âWell, youâre less annoying now.â
You give him a well-deserved jab on the bicep with the end of your pen. Much to your annoyance, he doesnât even flinch and continues.Â
âThe way I see it, change is inevitable. We all fight and run from it, but it eventually catches up with us. It is neither good nor bad. Rather, itâs what you make of it. But to answer your question, yes. Youâve matured more mentally. Youâve realized thereâs more to life now. Youâre learning how to live life on your own terms now, arenât you?â
Your silence tells him everything he needs to know.Â
âTell me, Haitham. What do you wish for?â
Alhaitham is a simple man with few desires. If all his basic needs and simple wants of books and time to himself are met, then he is content. But your question has him thinking. Is there anything else he wants in his life?Â
And it turns out the answer is yes.Â
âRegardless of how things turn out in the future, Iâd like to be able to continue talking to you like this. Thatâs my wish.â
Kaveh stirs in his sleep. Thamina rolls over and makes biscuits on your lap. A small smile creeps onto your face. You turn away and resume your work. He does the same.
Itâs a mundane scene- two Akademiya students pulling another all-nighter to complete their work. And yetâŠÂ
Yes, this is what I want, Alhaitham thinks to himself. Everything I could ever want means nothing if you arenât here.Â
The spring semester comes around and with that comes the finals grind. Youâve thrown yourself into your studies in a last-minute attempt to save, in your opinion, your failing grades since you arenât at the top of your class anymore. (Alhaitham thinks youâre insane- youâre still in the top five.) As if to rub it in your face, you get a letter from your family one day.
We heard that youâre no longer at the top of your class. What happened?Â
Your eyes and mind glazed over the rest of the letter until the end.
Study harder. You can end it the same way you did last year if you would spend more time on it. Donât get distracted now.Â
A rare instance of frustration flashes through you and before you know it, youâve ripped up the letter and tossed it in the trash.Â
Who told them that anyway?Â
âLisa⊠graduated early?â
The news comes to you over dinner one day when you ask where Lisa is upon realizing sheâs not there. Youâve just finished all your finals and you want nothing more than to relax and catch up on some sleep, but news regarding your best friend makes you temporarily forget about those plans.Â
Cyno nods. âItâs a whole thing now. Theyâre saying sheâs the best student the Akademiya has had in the past 200 years. Once in a generation is what theyâre calling her now.â
You bite your lip and look away. A weak âtell her I said congratulationsâ is all you can get out as envy begins festering deep within you. Youâre ashamed of yourself- sheâs your best friend, for Archonâs sake, you should be feeling excited for her- but you just canât.
Why couldnât it have been me instead?Â
You end your second year third in the class, with Alhaitham at the top.
âWelcome home, (Name).â
The house is a little chilly when you step inside. Dinner has already been prepared- itâs sitting on the table- but it looks like it was made some time ago. Your father ushers you into the kitchen, where your mother waits expectantly, her lips stretched into a thin smile when she sees you.Â
There are the usual dinnertime conversations- how has your day been? Fine, yours? Same old, same old- but they feel stiffer than usual. It doesnât flow and you find yourself internally wincing at the heavy silence between you.
âSo.â
You pause and look up at your mother, who has finally broken the awkward silence surrounding the kitchen table.
âWe heard you⊠didnât do so well at the Akademiya this year.âÂ
You freeze and internally brace yourself for what is to come.
âOnly third this year? (Name), you were first last year, how come you couldnât place first again? Thatâs not so hard, is it? You just have to put some effort in, stop being so lazy, and youâll do fine! Besides, itâs only your second year, what could be so difficult about it? We know youâre smart and that you couldâve easily been first again. Youâre just getting complacent, thatâs all! Do you really want that Alhaitham to beat you at your own game? How humiliating would that be for us? Think of the embarrassment we, your poor mother and father, would face from others in the Akademiya- our golden child (Name), who was once someone people aspired to be, but now nothing but a disappointment!â
âYour motherâs right, (Name),â says your father. âWe have high expectations for you, or should I say, had.âÂ
Their disappointment cuts deep into your soul, yet something quietly snaps inside you. You glare at them one more time before slipping away.
âIâm not hungry anymore. Iâve lost my appetite.â
You go to your childhood room and lock the door behind you. Your parentsâ voices- most definitely talking about you- drift up the stairs and you do your best to tune them out. As if to mock you, hanging on the wall across from you are all the awards you won at academic competitions throughout your life. Trophies, ribbons, certificates, and medals line every bit of space available, all of them with your name and a first-place title proudly engraved onto them.
Now that you think about it, were you really happy with being the best? Your younger self would laugh and say âof course!â, but why exactly?Â
And then the realization hits you. You personally felt nothing being the best at everything. The title, the fake smiles, and the forced compliments from others- they couldnât mean less to you.
You were only happy because your parents were happy. Were you ever happy with yourself- with who you were as a person? You donât know.
Stars live for an incredibly long time, but they too must die out one day. Their reserves of hydrogen gas will inevitably run out and they will either go out with a bang or a fizzle depending on their size. Larger stars go out in a blaze of glory, expanding up to several times their size before exploding and bathing the universe in the remains of their supernova for eons to come, while smaller ones condense from the gravity pushing inward and shrink down into a cold white dwarf, destined to drift across the universe alone for the rest of time. That is your fate, yet you do not know it yet. The last of your fuel has finally been spent, and the end is nigh. Whether you will go out with a bang or fade into obscurity is something only time will tell.Â
Youâve had enough of the stifling atmosphere in the house.
Itâs only been a few days since summer vacation began and youâre already at your witâs end. The heavy silence hanging in the air and their passive-aggressive comments toward you make you want to tear your hair out. Or run away. Maybe both.Â
There are still lots of days left before you start class again. Surely thereâs something you can do until thenâŠ
And then it hits you: traveling throughout Sumeru! You were born and raised in the city, but youâve rarely ventured outside of its borders. This could be a good chance to expand your horizons and gain experience!
So without further ado, you pack your bags, plan a route, and begin your adventures. Most of the time, youâd leave at dawn before your parents woke up and return late at night after theyâd fallen asleep. Sometimes, you wouldnât return for days, instead choosing to camp outside or stay at a friendâs house for a while. From what youâve heard through your neighbors and friends, your parents donât seem to care what youâre doing either. Some of your friends even say that they look happier now that youâre out of the house. The notion stings, but you donât dwell on it for too long.
Thereâs a strange sense of peace you feel throughout your travels thatâs foreign to you. Whether itâs camping out underneath the stars or scaling a rocky cliffside, youâve never felt more attuned to yourself than now. You gradually discover more about yourself that you otherwise would have never known. You like stargazing even more after seeing the expanse of the night sky and all its stars for the first time without the light pollution of the city. You like to swim, as demonstrated when you dove headfirst into a river for the first time and felt the cool waters wash over your skin. Youâre decently skilled with a bow and arrow after Tighnari gives you some lessons and his old bow to keep yourself safe on your travels.
Most importantly, you discover how to find happiness by yourself. After being told your whole life what you could and couldnât do, being able to take control of your life was a liberating feeling.Â
You end up seeing Alhaitham quite a bit during this time. Strangely enough, he was always one of the first people youâd see returning back to Sumeru City. Heâd always give you a subtle nod when he noticed you staring at him before leaving. Sometimes, heâd even be there to wish you a safe trip- no, not sometimes- almost all of the time. Itâs basically a given that heâll be there to see you off at this point. How he hears about it every time, you have no idea but you arenât complaining.Â
âLeaving early as always, I see. Where to this time, (Name)?â
You pause from checking your supplies to see Alhaitham standing behind you.
âIâm heading down to Gandharva Ville to spend some time in the rainforest. But youâre up this early just to wish me a safe trip? I didnât take you for a morning person.â
âIâm not. But someone should see you off each time, and if your parents wonât do it, then I will.â
âY-You⊠how did you know?â
âKnow what?â he asks while stepping around to help you with your bag. âAll I know is that Iâve never seen them send you off or welcome you back.â
âSo be it then,â you grumble. âItâs not as if I care.â
So he doesnât know about our strained relationship yet, you muse to yourself. Thatâs surprising, considering how big mother and fatherâs social circle isâŠÂ
âYouâre all set now. Best you head off before it gets too hot.â
âI will. You take care as well.â
He watches you leave through the city gates until youâre no longer in sight. A rare expression of longing crosses his face then and only after lingering for a few more moments (with his eyes trained on where you once were) does he leave.Â
He was lying when he pretended to be unaware of your family situation. When youâre hailed as one of the best scholars in recent times in a land that has a borderline fanatical dedication to academics, everything pertaining to you will be scrutinized and monitored. Your sudden decision to leave Sumeru for extended periods of time, and the way your parents refused to talk about you or changed the topic whenever you came up⊠it wasnât hard to put two and two together.Â
For your sake, Alhaitham hopes you would return later rather than sooner so you wouldnât have to hear what was being said about you.Â
âYou seem to have gotten good at this,â he remarks over coffee and desserts when you return several weeks later. Alhaitham notices youâve put on some muscle. There are some new scars and the bow slung on your back is an unfamiliar sight as well. âYou would be a perfect candidate for the Adventurerâs Guild.âÂ
You laugh. âNah, itâs not for me. As much as I enjoy traveling, I donât think I could earn my living through it, plus I wonât be able to keep it up once Iâm all old and wrinkly.â
âTell me about your adventures though. Where did you go?â
Your eyes light up and you begin rambling excitedly about your travels. You go into great detail about your time spent in the Avidya Forest and your spontaneous decision to travel to Liyue, which catches him off-guard.
âLiyue?â he repeats when you mention it. âSo thatâs why you were gone for several weeks instead of days. Iâve never been there before. Tell me, what was it like?â
Your smile grows even bigger and your eyes may as well have been stars from how brightly they were shining.
âOh, you shouldâve seen the architecture- actually, wait, I should be telling Kaveh this- but it was so pretty! The food was super good too and a friend I made shared some of her recipes with me. I have a feeling that youâll like them so I can teach you some other time! Ooh, and you canât miss the scenery for the world! Personally, my favorite wasâŠâ
Youâre so caught up in reliving and telling your adventures that you fail to miss the fond look in his eyes and the rare hint of a smile that stretches across his face.Â
Youâre halfway through recounting your way back home through the Chasm when you happen to glance at the clock and the realization begins to set in.
âI have to get going now,â you explain as you hurriedly gather your belongings. âIâm meeting up with some other friends in a bit. But thanks for the coffee and sweets. Hopefully, Iâll see you around again sometime soon?â
The chime above the door jingles as you rush outside and Alhaitham is left alone with his thoughts. With a deep sigh, he takes a look out the window and decides to address the thoughts about you that have been on his mind lately.Â
Youâre annoying, thereâs no doubt about that. You love to push his buttons and purposefully irritate him. Youâre an overachiever and you care too much about what other people think. For the longest time, your whole personality consisted of your academic accomplishments and nothing else. Youâre a people pleaser and you long for acceptance and praise from others- two things he thinks are utterly useless coming from other people. The moment someone questions your abilities, regardless of who it is, you begin to second-guess yourself and waver. Ridiculous, in his opinion. You know your worth and skills better than anyone else, so why are you letting their baseless accusations affect you? Youâre easily affected by rumors and your self-worth is determined by what others think of you.Â
But you have a warm and welcoming demeanor thatâs rare in the cutthroat halls of the Akademiya that draws others to you like a moth to a flame. You enjoy traveling and you have a major soft spot for animals, especially cats. Whenever youâre in the city, you always stop to pet all the strays roaming around, no matter how long it takes. You enjoy sweets- not the overly cloying kind, but the ones that have a touch of sweetness to the point where you can just taste it. Your favorite dessert is the Padisarah Pudding sold in the Grand Bazaar and heâs stopped by so often that the vendor knows his name, face, and order by now. Youâre more of a tea person than a coffee person, but he has your coffee order memorized just in case (iced, with two sugars, a splash of milk, and rosewater) and heâs the one that has been mysteriously supplying your favorite tea whenever itâs running low. He notices you like to ramble about things youâre passionate about (and he willingly- gladly- listens too).Â
And heâs come to realize that maybe youâre not as insufferable as he thought you were. You have a brilliant mind and youâre one of the few that isnât put off by his blunt nature. You donât just tolerate him- you appreciate him, flaws and everything.Â
Youâve always been envious of him- heâs known that ever since he met you. Because of him, you have strived to prove yourself as better in all aspects. A stupid rivalry is what it started off as with your pride getting the best of both of you. But throughout these three years, youâve only brought out the best in each other.
At this point, he doesnât feel complete without you.Â
Heâs well aware of the question hanging over peopleâs minds whenever they see the both of you together. You are the sun, the golden child of your parents who are renowned within the Akademiya and held to the highest level of scrutiny. Their judging gazes, eyes that fixate on every move of yours, comments whispered behind your back- you take them all in stride. Meanwhile, Alhaithamâs presence is glossed over when youâre there. To many, he is just another Akademiya student that they will see in passing and forget about immediately. In that aspect, he is the moon that hides from others. Those who were acquainted with his parents or his late grandmother may recognize him and speak with him, but he mostly goes unnoticed and ignored.Â
But free from the prying eyes of others, Alhaitham is able to sleep peacefully at night. Your fitful sleep, on the other hand, is plagued with dreams of what-ifs and the looming fear of disappointment from others. Youâve always succeeded, not because you craved success, but because you feared failure and how others would react.
The rising moon admires the sun because of the boundless love they receive from others. On the other hand, the setting sun is envious of the moon for his sweetest dreams that they can only long for.
You enter your third year with a sense of apprehension that wasnât there before. Your high hopes for yourself are still there, but theyâve been dashed considerably. But despite your lack of ambition now and your experiences from last year, you still (attempt to) throw yourself into your studies, knowing that this year is where the challenge begins. Your first two years were just warmups, or nothing, according to your parents.Â
Your first few weeks go well, but before you know it, you find yourself lost and overwhelmed by the material.
I⊠donât understand any of this. But how could this be? Iâve spent so much time.Â
Your test scores donât reflect your efforts either.
45%. 50%. 63% 67%. 55%. 38%.
âDamn it!â
You slam your fist onto your desk table as the results of another failed test greet you. You had spent so much time preparing for this one, only for your efforts to be rewarded with a slap to the face.Â
You canât keep going like this. You need help, and desperately at that, but you canât bring yourself to ask for it.Â
Youâre smarter than everyone else, you donât need help, a familiar voice comes into your mind. Youâre the pride and joy of our family because of your grades. Donât let us down now.Â
You look out the window, the heat still simmering in your stomach.
âWhat a load of bullshit.âÂ
â... I saw your test scores earlier today.âÂ
You glare at Alhaitham with poison in your gaze that was never there until now. The hairs on the back of his neck stand up and he feels strangely uneasy, like his body is warning him to stop.Â
âAnd? Here to mock me for it?â
âNo. On the contrary, I want to offer you my help.âÂ
Oh, the humiliation. Look at how far youâve fallen.Â
âForget it,â you snap. âI donât need your help.â
You get up and leave, slamming the doors shut behind you. It echoes through the House of Daena and the other students there turn to stare at Alhaitham in silent shock. Heâs stunned too. Although you can have quite the sharp tongue at times, youâve never lashed out at him like that before.Â
A few weeks later, the results of another test are announced. Alhaithamâs name sits at the top like it always has. His name is on everyoneâs tongue as they jealously grumble over the results once again. His eyes examine the list, searching for one name in particular, until he finds yours at the bottom of it.
He pauses, then turns around in time to see you storming out. He doesnât miss the looks your classmates give you- mocking, ridiculing, scornful, and disgusted sneers that relish in your downfall. The jealous grumbles about him now turn into titters and sneering whispers with your name now being trampled upon by those that used to extol your virtues. Itâs all noise and it grates his ears until he canât stand it anymore.
âWhat a waste of time.â
The noise stops and everyone turns to look at him.Â
âYou all have the energy to complain about your own scores while making a laughing stock of someone else. Itâd be better spent on improving your own scores- unless youâre just that incompetent?â
Later that night as youâre studying, you get a message from your parents through your Akasha. Itâs the first time youâve gotten anything from them all year. After hesitating, you open the message.
Itâs short and simple but your heart sinks and your temper flares after reading it. You rip your Akasha Terminal off and toss it to the side.Â
Donât come home this year.Â
âI need your help. Iâm asking for a friend.â
Alhaitham looks over his book at you. Itâs the first time heâs seen you all week and to be frank, you look awful. Your hair is a mess, your uniform is wrinkled, and your skin looks dry and dull.
âDo I know them? If not, then I wonât help.â
You roll your eyes and throw your hands up exasperatedly. âOk fine, yes, you know them.â
âWell, why wonât they just ask me themselves? Why trouble you?â
âWhatever, it doesnât matter right now. Just answer the damn question.â
He leans back and knowingly looks at you.Â
âTheyâre going through a tough time right now,â you explain, choosing each of your words carefully. âThey arenât doing good in their classes and theyâre trying to get back on track, but they donât know how to.â
â... This is for you, isnât it?â
Damn, he saw right through you. Were you that obvious?
Alhaitham goes back to reading his book. âI canât say I would be of any use here. After all, Iâve never been in that position nor would I let myself get there.âÂ
You feel your temper flare once more. You clench your jaw and try to reign in your anger before speaking to him.Â
âWell, duh. Youâre also not helping either.â
âReally? I think itâs a perfectly reasonable answer.â
âPut yourself in my shoes for once, would you?â
He sets his book down and looks at you.
âYou asked me for my advice and I told you what I would do in that situation. I donât understand why youâre getting upset.â
âThatâs because itâs not the answer Iâm looking for!â
âThatâs on you for expecting others to somehow know what you want without telling them.â
âYou-!â
You groan and run your hands through your hair. Is it just you or is he being more insufferable today? Canât he read the room for once?Â
He continues. âIf you wanted someone to only tell you what you wanted to hear, a mirror would be a better audience.â
âAlhaitham, all Iâm asking from you is a little empathy. Is that so hard to have?â
âAnd is it so hard for you to stop throwing a hissy fit just because I didnât tell you what you wanted to hear?â
His words are all spite and knives meant to hurt. They lack the usual lighthearted tone he has with you. You feel it coming- the barbed words that are poised to strike and cut deep, but it doesnât help when he begins speaking again.Â
âYou asked for my help and I gave you advice. Youâre not in a position to be complaining here.âÂ
âYeah, well, your âadviceâ isnât what most people would consider as help.â
He scoffs and looks away before looking at you once more- like heâs looking down on you, you realize. Thereâs something akin to disgust and impatience in his gaze that makes you freeze despite all your sharp words earlier.Â
âHow irrational could you be? You reject everyoneâs help even though you need it and you donât listen to anybodyâs suggestions. Youâre too caught up in the conception that youâre always right and everyone else is always wrong. Youâre childish, (Name), thatâs what you are. Youâre like a child still naive and ignorant, content with playing with their toys and games and ignoring reality. Youâre not cut out for the Akademiya. You never were.â
He laughs and now you realize just how much it hurts when itâs directed toward you.Â
âAnd youâre telling me that my ego is overinflated. No wonder youâre failing everything. Archons, (Name), youâre utterly hopeless. What did I ever see in you?â
The silence that fills the space afterward is enough to make Alhaitham immediately regret his words. You angrily glare at him and Alhaithamâs heart sinks when he recognizes the emotion present in your eyes.
Utter hate.
â... For all these years, I've heard so many rumors about you but chose to brush them off,â you begin. âI was so stupid! I should have listened to them! They say youâre cold and heartless and only now do I realize that they were right. They say youâre not human from how cruel you are- archons, dammit! Look at me!â
The sudden demand makes Alhaitham nervously glance toward you after avoiding your gaze this entire time. You sniff and wipe away the few tears that managed to spill over. Losing your composure in front of him, the perfect and poised genius, was already humiliating enough, but you hold his gaze long enough to let him see. Let him witness the results of his own actions and the prospect of losing someone he cared about (all over again).
âYouâre an absolutely horrible person, Alhaitham. I hope you remember this.â
Alhaitham. Itâs the first time youâve used his full name ever since you befriended him and the implications of it sting.Â
He reaches out toward you. âWait-â
You slap his hand away.Â
âNo, weâre done here. I thought you could at least understand, but youâre just as uncaring and self-centered as everyone else here. And I once thought that you were better than anyone else here, but only now do I realize how stupid I was."
You laugh sardonically one last time.
âMy parents were right. They would have been so much happier if you were their child.â
Alhaitham doesnât see you again for several weeks after that. Itâs as if youâre purposefully avoiding him and it gets to a point where heâs beginning to get concerned about your health and safety.Â
Currently, heâs meeting with Tighnari. Out of everyone, the fox hybrid had the highest chance of knowing with his keen sense of hearing.
âIâm concerned about (Name).â
Tighnariâs ears twitch in response.Â
âThey arenât the same person anymore. Youâve seen it too.â
The fox hybrid sadly nods. âTheyâve been consumed by rage and self-hate. I see it in their eyes and the way they lash out. Theyâre angry at themselves and at everyone around them and itâs completely understandable considering the situation and the response of those they trusted most. Still, itâs not healthy if they continue like this. Speaking of which, were they always this temperamental?â
Alhaitham shakes his head. âNo. To be clear, theyâve always had a sharp tongue but it was always lighthearted. They only started getting truly angry this year.â
âLashing out or displaying signs of anger is often a common symptom of burnout. Iâm fairly confident thatâs what (Name) has. Specifically, academic burnout. But Iâm sure you already knew that, didnât you?â
Alhaitham uncomfortably avoids Tighnariâs prying eyes.Â
Tighnariâs eyes narrow. âLook, (Name) is a great friend to me as well, but why are you telling me about this? Youâre in their Darshan so shouldnât you know more?â
âI havenât heard anything about them either. I got concerned after they didnât show up at the library for a week. From what Iâve heard, they havenât been showing up to class either for the past few weeks, which is strange for them. Iâm asking around- maybe Iâll find something out that way.â
Tighnari shakes his head. âSadly, I donât know why either. If it helps, some people have said they havenât even seen them. Not just at the library or at class but in general. Itâs almost as if theyâve just⊠disappeared.â
Thereâs a moment of silence that passes between them. Tighnari stares at Alhaitham curiously and he rests his chin on his hands.
Alhaitham doesnât have a good feeling about thisâŠ
âSpeaking of which, does the fight from earlier have anything to do with this?â
âYou knew?â
âPlease. When two of my closest friends get into an argument as big as that, Iâm bound to find out eventually. So, did it have anything to do with this?â
â... Yes,â he admits. âI feel guilty and I want to apologize to them.âÂ
âWell, better late than never,â grumbles Tighnari under his breath. The stink eye he sends his way doesnât go unnoticed by Alhaitham.Â
âWhy do you care for them so much?â
The question comes out of nowhere and leaves him reeling.Â
âI suppose itâs⊠because I consider them a friend?â
Archons, that answer sounds even more pathetic out loud than it did in his head and Tighnari knows it.Â
Tighnari heaves a long sigh that makes Alhaitham pause.
âYou absolute lummox!â he snaps. âI always knew you were somewhat emotionally constipated but I didnât think youâd be this denseâŠâ
He suddenly stands up and stares the ashen-haired male in the eye, his tone softer this time.Â
âYouâre in love with them, Alhaitham. Thatâs what youâve been feeling lately.â
Alhaitham immediately scoffs. âNo, that canât possibly be-â
âYou, who hates sharing what you consider yours, share your notes with them.â
âItâs a win-win situation for both of us. Weâre in the same Darshan and weâll be able to learn better from each other.â
âBut them, specifically, when there are countless others that would kill for the chance to learn from you?â
âThey can figure the material out themselves. Plus, I stand to gain no benefit from what they have to offer.â
âWhat, so only (Name) can keep up with you?â
âPrecisely.âÂ
Tighnari sees the opening Alhaitham has created and takes advantage of it.
âAre you sure that youâre still rivals? Even though (Name) isâŠâ
âOf course. Itâs been like that since day one.â
âHuh, thatâs interesting. Because from what I know, academic rivals donât go out to lunch together. They donât go stargazing even though a certain someone finds it mind-numbingly boring. They donât sneak out past curfew and break Akademiya rules on a daily basis, and they certainly donât spend hefty chunks of Mora to make the other happy.âÂ
Tighnari has Alhaitham backed into a corner and he knows it.Â
âKaveh knows as well.â
âAnd?â
âAnd you still let yourself get roped into his schemes to make them happy. Look, I know this isnât a good time to bring him up consideringâŠâ
He gestures at the empty space, a silent indication of Kaveh and Alhaithamâs broken friendship.Â
âBut thereâs no denying that Kaveh did and still does care about you. Why else would he be willing to put in so much time and effort to make them happy? Because in addition to being their friend, he knows that when theyâre happy, you are as well. And if that doesnât mean something, then, I donât know what else does.â
âWeâre just friends,â he argues once again. Tighnari glares at him.
âYouâre an idiot to think it doesnât go deeper than that. You also saw them off every single time during the summer.â
âThatâs what friends do. Besides, their parents should have-â
âUh-huh. Go on, keep lying to yourself like that. Do I have to hit you over the head with a brick in order for you to realize your own feelings? Youâre sounding like a broken record here.âÂ
âI-â
âThereâs no use in denying or lying to us, Alhaitham. Weâre your friends, after all. But the one whoâs going to have to decide what to do next is you.â
He gets up and gives Alhaitham a pat on the shoulder. Before leaving, he looks at him one last time.
âItâs going to hurt even more when you lose them for good. Youâll only wish you could have done something sooner. But I think you already know that by now, right, Alhaitham?â
âDo you know where (Name) is?â
Itâs a rare occasion today- Alhaitham actually showed up for class. But it wasnât to listen to whatever the professor had to say- no, it was to ask your classmates where you went. Heâs been trying every day to find you, but only to no avail.Â
Heâs gained some valuable information, however. Your roommate moved out a while ago, leaving you the sole occupant of your dorm room. He also managed to find your dorm room number after asking some of your âfriendsâ, who after relentless prying, reluctantly opened up.Â
âI canât say for sure, but I heard theyâre in the hospital. They somehow ended up there over the weekend.âÂ
âThe hospital?â he repeats. âDo you know why?â
âNo idea. Sorry.â
He shows up at the Birmarstan after the class ends, fully expecting to see you. He gives the nurse his name and a few minutes later, she returns with an apologetic smile.Â
âSorry, but the patient is not accepting visitors at this time.â
A slight pause. Barely perceptible.
âI see.â
You look at the window to see Alhaithamâs retreating form. The nurse enters your room a few minutes later and crosses her arms.
âHeâs the first person whoâs asked to visit you ever since you came in. Iâm surprised- I thought youâd get more. Most people usually do.â
You pull the covers over your head and roll over. Such is the way of life in the Akademiya. Friendships were formed out of convenience as a way to climb up the ladder later in life. As soon as you were no longer useful or fell from grace like you did, others were quick to abandon you without a second thought.Â
So why did Alhaitham visit then? To you, your relationship (as enemies? Friends? Or evenâŠ) was built solely on how you could assist each other, and nothing more. By your prior logic, there is no logical reason why he should visit you.
UnlessâŠÂ
âIs there any reason why you didnât want to see him in particular?â
Even if your hypothesis proved to be true, it doesnât excuse or undo the hurt he caused.
âHeâs the last person I want to see right now.â
A few days after being discharged from Birmarstan, thereâs a knock from the door that wakes you up from your sleep. Still disoriented, you look up and roll over, opting to ignore it and go back to sleep.
The knocking continues. You cover your ear with a pillow and squeeze your eyes shut even more.
âI know youâre there, (Name). Several people told me so.â
Shit, itâs the last person you want to see right now. Your mood sours instantly and now youâre fully awake.Â
âWhat do you want?â you snap.Â
âI just want to talk.â
It doesnât seem like heâll be going away anytime soon, so you get up, kicking the trash that litters the floor to the side, and carefully cracking open the door. He looks down to see you. You pull the sleeves of your shirt down as he does so.Â
âCan I come in?â
You look behind at the mess that is your dorm.
â... Itâs not exactly clean right now.â
âThat doesnât matter to me.â
You flick the lights on and hide the worst of the trash underneath your bed. He follows you, his gaze traveling around the room. He notices the side with the unoccupied bed is considerably cleaner (that must have been your roommateâs before they moved out, he reasons) and your desk looks like it hasnât been used in a while. He takes a seat at it and examines the table. Your Akasha Terminal is lying in the corner and collecting dust. Your textbook is open to a section that was taught a while ago and it looks like you just started taking notes.Â
(Although, the frustrated scribbles that occupy most of the page have him concerned. Additionally, certain parts of the paper are wrinkled, as if they have dried after getting wet. The shape and spot where they are concentrated in is another cause for concern as well. Were you⊠crying?)
You pull the covers over your form and glare at him.Â
âWell? What did you want to tell me?â
âIâm sorry.â
You pause, then shake your head.
âThat alone wonât be enough.â
âI know. And thatâs why-â
He gulps, his voice shaking toward the end. Itâs just a simple apology, so why is he so nervous?
(But deep down he knows the real answer: this is his last chance to ask you for forgiveness before losing you for good. And it was the thought of losing you, the one that had managed to worm their way into his heart and appreciate him that scared him the most.)Â
âIâm sorry. I really am. I shouldnât have said those things back then. I should have been more understanding of your struggles and, like you said, had some more empathy. I realize that I am far from an ideal friend in many peopleâs eyes and if you feel the same, I will not hold that against you.â
His chest tightens and he subconsciously looks away.
âIâm aware of how people see me- valuing logic above all with a mind fueled by equations and facts over feelings. A genius with no regard or need for others. But Iâm still human. I feel regret and remorse the same way as anyone else. I know when Iâve messed up and when I need to apologize. Now is one of those times, more than ever.âÂ
You turn around and open the blinds, letting the light flood the room before sitting back down, watching him carefully.Â
âI donât want to forgive you. Do you have any idea how long your words lingered for?â
The words sting Alhaitham. Your voice shakes and you feel the familiar burning sensation in your eyes.Â
âBut I know you. I know your bluntness and sharp tongue. You often say hurtful things but donât mean them. Youâre stubborn and slow when it comes to apologizing, even if the guilt eats away at you. You donât wear your heart on your sleeve and youâre not one to dish out praises, leading others to believe that youâre cold and unsympathetic.â
You suddenly lean in, staring into the eyes that had kept you awake at night for so long. His eyes widen slightly and you smile faintly to yourself.Â
âBut I like to think that Iâve gotten to know you a bit. You show that you care with your actions, not your words, but that takes time- time that most people arenât willing to give because of their first impression of you. You take the time to learn about the people you care about and prefer acts of service to words of affirmation and physical touch as your love language. You show that you care in a way of your own.
âSo yes. I forgive you.â
Alhaitham finds himself sighing with relief. Yet a question still lingers in the back of his mind.
âWhy?â
And there it is again, for the first time in a long time. Your smile. Itâs a little stiff and awkward, as if you havenât smiled in a long time, but itâs undoubtedly yours.Â
âThe same reason. I missed you too.âÂ
And now begins the uncomfortable process of recovery.Â
âHow long were you gone for?â
â... Longer than Iâd like to admit. Catching up is going to be a difficult task, isnât it?â
âI wonât sugarcoat it; youâve missed a lot.â Alhaitham flips through your books and notes from prior years. âHowever, you have a strong foundation from your earlier years. That should help you. But first, let me ask you a few questions so I can outline a study plan for you.â
You raise your eyebrows at his statement.
âYouâre taking this quite seriously, arenât you?â
âNaturally,â he replies. âWhy wouldnât I?â
âKnowing you, youâre not the kind of person to go out of your way for others,â you grumble. âSo going to such lengths just for meâŠâÂ
âYou discredit me if you think that I would do that. But why do you think you felt burnt-out in the first place?â
You look out the window and think for a bit.
â... I think itâs because of my own pride. Had I asked for help earlier on, I have a feeling I wouldnât be in this position, or things would be better, at least,â you admit.Â
âBut itâs more than that, isnât it?â
You sigh and hold your hands out in defeat. âYou surely know more than youâre letting on. But I think itâs also because I never learned how to study.â
Alhaitham pauses at that. âReally?â
Thereâs no mockery or derision in his question- just curiosity.Â
âPeople goaded me on as a gifted child and I was expected to somehow know how to do everything perfectly the first time, you know? Itâs just how things were.â
âWell, thatâs something we can fix for sure.â
Your first few days back are the worst. Whispers and stares follow you wherever you go and your professors, who once showered you with praises, look at you strangely or even ignore you.Â
âDonât mind them,â he says when he notices you sulking in the library later that day. âYou and I both know thatâs just the way the Akademiya is. Weâll see who gets the last laugh.âÂ
Much to the envy of your classmates, he also personally tutors you in all your classes. He accompanies you to all your classes (even the ones he isnât taking) and sits in on them, whispering and writing little notes of clarification and elaboration.Â
Bit by bit, you see your scores slowly improve. Alhaitham teaches you an array of study techniques, many of which have been personally vetted by him.
âTry each of them out,â he says. âDifferent techniques work for different people. There is something out there that works for you.â
Heâs able to bear witness to the fruits of your labor one day when he hears your excited footsteps running toward him.
âHaitham, look!â
You practically shove several papers into his face. âI got a perfect score on the latest exam! And guess what? I tied with you, meaning that I also placed first!â
A rare smile, solely reserved for your eyes, creeps onto his face.Â
âGood job. Your score is well-deserved after all the hard work youâve been putting in.â
He sees it now. Slowly but surely, youâre regaining bits and pieces of your old self. Youâll never be exactly who you once were, but thatâs ok. Youâll pick the broken yet salvageable parts up and put them together to create something new yet still distinctly you.
He only looks forward to seeing what youâll become in the future.Â
Youâve finally graduated.
Itâs a joyous occasion today, filled with speeches, hugs, and promises to keep in touch. Families and friends crowd outside the Akademiya to congratulate their loved ones. The diploma in your hands and the cords around your shoulders are a sign of your achievements and your persistence despite all the roadblocks you faced along the way.Â
Your heart feels simultaneously burdened and relieved. You had graduated squarely in the middle of the class. You knew it was something to be proud of, yet that part of your former self that you could never suppress couldnât help but feel disappointed.Â
Not that it really bothered you anyway. When you walked across the stage to the smattering of applause accompanying your name, you had immediately locked eyes with Alhaitham in the crowd. He was clapping, but what caught your attention the most was the smile he sent your way. It wasnât one of his once in a blue moon microscopic ones.
No. It was one where you could see a sliver of his teeth and where the edges of his eyes crinkled from it, the sight of which sent your heart ablaze. There was pride in his gaze and in that moment, you felt as if everything had been worth it- even if it wasnât the outcome you expected.Â
And when he walked across the stage, you were the one to clap for him the loudest.Â
You push your way through the heavy crowds, searching for one person in particular. Heâs not anywhere in the crowd, so you head down the walkway and there you see him. Heâs waiting for you with a large bouquet of flowers in his arms.
âTook you long enough,â he remarks. Alhaitham holds out the flowers to you and you accept them gratefully.Â
âOh, you remembered my favorite flowers!â you exclaim as you examine the bouquet. âI have something for you as well.â
You hand him an envelope and he eyes it curiously when a voice interrupts you.Â
â(Name).â
You hear an awkward cough behind you and you turn to see your parents. They stand there awkwardly, fidgeting with their hastily-purchased bouquet of flowers that pales in comparison to what Alhaitham got you.Â
(You donât even like the kind of flowers your parents got for you and youâve told them that beforeâŠ)Â
âCongratulations on gradu-â
âOh, you must be Alhaitham!â
Your motherâs sudden remark takes all of you by surprise. She rushes forward and eagerly shakes his hand.
âIâve heard so much about you! You just graduated and youâve already made a name for yourself in Sumeru as a genius! How incredible is that? Ah, if only my child here could learn from you, but theyâve already graduated, so itâs a little too late for that nowâŠâ
You bite your lip and look away. The action doesnât go unnoticed by Alhaitham. He retracts his hand.Â
âIt was nice to meet you. Weâll be taking our leave now.â
âWeâll?âÂ
Alhaitham ignores them in favor of holding your hand and leading you away.
âI think a celebration is in order. The owner of the stall that sells your favorite Padisarah Pudding is offering us free dessert today.âÂ
The heaviness that was hanging over you just a moment ago is now gone.
âFree desserts? Iâm in!â
âThen itâs settled.âÂ
Later that night, Alhaitham remembers the letter you gave him earlier and pulls it out. He glances at the clock. Thereâs still time before he has to leave and meet up with you.
Dear Alhaitham,
Thank you for being by my side throughout these four years when no one else was. I owe my entire academic career to you. Perhaps even my entire life. I donât know if Iâd be writing this letter if it werenât for you.Â
When I saw you on the first day, I wondered what you were doing here. You were short, scrawny, and shy back then. I thought you were one of those child prodigies. Who knew youâd turn out to be the buff man skilled with the sword that I know todayâŠÂ
Honestly, I didnât think that you would help me. You were the envy of our class, unlike me. I wouldnât be surprised and I wouldnât blame you if all that praise got to your head. I guess I didnât know you well enough back then, though, because you defied all of my expectations. Not only did you not care for status or fame, you also took time out of your own day (which I know you hate doing) for me.Â
You really are an enigma, Haitham. Youâre a person with several layers and hidden secrets like an intricately-designed mechanism. But I think thatâs one of the reasons that drew me to you. Everyone has their own secrets and burdens. By slowly learning more about each other, you learn more about yourself.Â
You and I, we are inseparable now. Earlier today, I had someone come up to me and ask where you were. They were surprised that you werenât next to me like always. At first glance, we seem more different than similar, especially with our contrasting personalities. But take a closer look and theyâll see that we share more in common than in differences. Opposites attract, but similarities bind.Â
Like those dusty old philosophers and figures that we had to learn about in class, we are parallels of each other. You are simultaneously my biggest critic and supporter. My biggest rival and confidant. My biggest headache and source of comfort.Â
But most importantly, you are my biggest friend.Â
Remember that one night where I asked you what you wished for? You had said that you wanted to keep talking to me regardless of how things turned out in the future. I didnât really have a response at the time, but now I finally do.
My wish is selfish. I wish for you to stay the way you are. A little arrogant, blunt, curious, and caring in your own way. Because I canât imagine a future without you in it now.Â
With all my love,
(Name)
The house is too quiet for Alhaithamâs liking. He appreciates silence when working and Kavehâs incessant noise from working on projects at midnight is downright irritating, but there is a time and place for everything.
Now is not that time. Thamina is sleeping on the cushion next to him. Kaveh is out in a meeting with a client (for once) and youâre-
âIâm home!â
Speak of the devil, there you are. Thaminaâs eyes open and she jumps off the cushion to greet you with a loud meow and a head rub against your legs. Alhaitham takes his headphones off and sets his book down before getting up to greet you after a long journey back from Mondstadt. Youâre tired, your uniform is wrinkled, and your Kamera has been hastily shoved back into its case, but Alhaitham has never been more grateful to see you.Â
âMissed me?â
âYouâve been gone for too long,â he grumbles before pulling you into a tight hug and burying his face into the crook of your neck.
âLove, it was only for a month!â
âMy point still stands.â
You scrunch your face up and eventually manage to wiggle your way out of his grasp. Itâs been a few years since youâve graduated. Alhaitham has dutifully taken on the responsibilities of the Akademiyaâs Scribe while you now work as a reporter for a newspaper company. You love the job because it puts your Haravatat degree to good use and you get paid to travel, although you donât like the part of being away from Alhaitham for extended periods of time.
âAre you still up for dinner and dessert even though itâs getting late?â
âAt my favorite place?â
âOur favorite place,â he corrects.
âOh, you like it now as well? Did some of my tastes rub off onto you?â
âThe pudding runs I went on for you did that a long time ago.â
Comets are ephemeral in nature. Some of them are only seen once and then gone, lost in time and never to be seen again. But occasionally, in a twist of fate, they can be rediscovered although it may take hundreds or even thousands of years for them to return.
That comet he had wished upon several years ago had finally returned to him.

thinking about being with logan howlett again. the two of you are on a mission with the team.
the group of you were down in the basement of an abandoned factory, shutting down some meeting about a weapon that meant to do your fellow mutants harm. storm and jean were down in the cellar looking at plans. scott had just been with you and logan in the boiler room but left moments ago to see if the pair had found anything.
unfortunately for you and your boyfriend, that was when some enemies decided to show up.
you make quick work of the guys coming after you while logan deals with his own set. just as youâre done and catching your breath, you hear a loud bang.
your head zips in that direction to see loganâs claws had speared through some sort of water pipe in the process of handling his opponent. a strong burst of fluid erupts from the metallic cylinder. you hear him yell, probably from the temperature, and see him topple over.
a quick gasp comes from you, but you regain your composure and use your mutation to ice over the fracture in the structure, stopping the flow of water.
âbaby, are you ok?â you ask hurriedly. it was a pointless question. of course he was fine. even if the water was scalding, heâd be healed in a couple seconds. but you still didnât like seeing your lover in any pain, so you ask anyways.
âyeah, fine,â he grumbles and wipes some water from his face. he shakes like a wet dog and then turns to you.
the concern on your face is fast replaced by amusement. giggles bubble up and out of your lips. you try to suppress your smile by covering your mouth, but it doesnât do much good.
âwhat? whatâs so funny?â he asks. but then he realizes.
his hair which normally stood in two proud points was now slumped onto his head. instead of the fierce wolverine, he looked more like a soggy cat.
âoh give me a break,â he says and rolls his eyes. but his hands still rise and try to mold the mop back into its usual style.
more laughter comes from you. âit doesnât look badâŠâ you tease, âyou look pretty cute. like a little kitten left out in the rain.â
heâs not amused with your jokes or your increasing laughter. âshut up.â
âalright, alright. donât start hissing at me,â you laugh.
the flat look on his face doesnât waiver. he gives up on shaping his hair and lets the tendrils just flop down under the weight of the water. you prance over and give him a little kiss as an apology.
âiâm sorry for laughing⊠but also, donât move cause scott is gonna wanna see this."

âYandere!Jujutsu Kaisen x fem!reader (platonic)
âSummary: forced to abandon your family and being spit out into a world of curses where everyone seems to gravitate towards you
âWarnings: a little angstÂż obsession, toxic behaviors, yandere stuff
Part Two / Part Three / Part Four
The blank pages: Part One / Par Two
ok I had a burst of inspiration and I needed to write also need more platonic yanderes for jjk đ (I'll probably write another part because I left out many characters and villains⊠đ)
SOMETIMES you think that you had to do something very terrible in your old life, something unforgivable and unimaginable to be punished right now, sometimes you think that the easiest thing would be to bang your head against the wall until you are stupid enough to have a caregiver and stop worrying about many things.
You just wanted to help your parents with the family business, being a time of high demand in the hostelry sector, taking advantage of your school holidays, you loved your family very much and helping in the business was the least you could do.
But the moment a group of children come in screaming excitedly and running from one side to the other you lost your nerve, yes, they are kids celebrating a birthday, but so much activity, noise and annoyance made a vein swell on your forehead, you were reaching the limit, but at least there were only a couple of hours left to be able to close and surreptitiously remove the last people with brooms.
You swore you were losing years and hair, that the minutes passed slower and slower as if you were stuck in an endless hour.
"I think if you keep squeezing the tray like that you'll break it, honey."
Your mother squeezed your shoulder, you turned to look at her, she was behind the bar, cleaning with a cloth while she glanced at you from time to time, she certainly knew how to detect when you were losing your temper, after all she saw you have many crises nervous before.
"Sorry, you know I can't stand so much movement and annoying noises, it's exhausting."
"Oh, I think you can go home if you want, you've done enough for today miss."
A new voice joined in, your father made way with a couple of plates, he left them on the bar to place his hands on your shoulders and rub circles on them, calming you with his touch, you smiled in agreement, your mood improving as you heard that you can go home once and for all, they wouldn't have much work at this hour.
"Don't forget the jacket love, it's already night and it's cold outside!"
"I know mom, bye, love you two!"
You shouted as you were already walking through the door, you waved to both of them before walking out onto the lonely streets, luckily your house wasn't too far from the family business. Without wasting time you grabbed your faithful life companions, your headphones, connecting them to your phone to listen to music at a ridiculously high volume. You let music be your final destination, if you ever suffer an accident, at least it'll be listen to something you like.
Moving your head slightly to the rhythm of the sound, looking at the ground as your legs moved on their own, knowing the way back by heart, you concentrated on drowning out the thoughts leaving your mind blank, it wasn't very difficult since you barely had enough active neurons at this time to have too deep thoughts.
"Huh?"
Some mist came out of your mouth when you felt something tiny cling to your leg, confused, you looked down with a blank look and an imperturbable face, you saw like a kind of fairy-bug, a strange thing was sticking to your leg, looking at you with eyes of a kicked dog. Oh yeah, you started seeing these kinds of creatures, monsters, whatever they are, a couple of months ago when you decided to walk into a 'witchcraft' shop just because a bracelet seemed cute to you.
When you wanted to question the old woman who sold it to you âafter checking that you hadn't spent too much time on the Internet to be hallucinatingâ she was no longer there, as if she had disappeared from the face of the earth, no one seemed to remember her except of you.
You grimaced, holding the little thing carefully, pushing it away from you as if you had just taken unidentified food out of the sink after having washed the dishes, without hesitation you threw it like it was a snot, you didn't even hear the squeal that came from it as it crashed to the ground because you hadn't turned the music down.
You continued your path, ignoring how more of those monsters began to appear, larger ones, with more or less human shapes, you didn't know if you had reached the point of emotional exhaustion that you no longer cared about those things, or you were so desensitized to certain things that you barely changed your expression.
"Help⊠help please⊠my son- oh- it burnsâŠ"
Your feet stopped suddenly, almost falling face first to the ground as you felt one of those monsters cling to your arm like an old woman crossing the street with a helper, looking at you with tears flowing down her cheeks, murmuring things you wouldn't understand if you weren't able to read lips, her hand went higher and higher, absorbing your body in a kind of wrestling-like lock-hug.
If you could you would pinch the bridge of your nose, you started to struggle with the woman, she started screaming the further you got away from her, you cursed silently when you couldn't get her off. This was it, the only thing that bothered you about seeing strange things was that they clung to you as if you were some kind of helper or salvation, you are not a saint, you are not a savior, you were nobody, but they kept coming to you like bees to pollen.
"Looks like you need some help"
You turned your head slowly, dramatizing the side eye you gave to that familiar voice, you heard by chance because of the song change and the small silence, but you could feel his presence for miles. Your frown deepened as you saw the albino look at you with a smile, oh, not only did you have to deal with these curses on your own, as if that were not enough, being one of the few people capable of perceiving these things certain people became interested in you. Sorcerers, it was funny, you didn't believe in magic until you saw this albino lunatic exorcise a curse in front of your eyes, even though you were somewhat skeptical, you refused to attend his institute, but they kept showing up to persuade.
"No, I can take care of this."
"Aw sure, go ahead then, I want to see how you do it."
This time you didn't listen to shit, but his shit eating smile told you everything you wanted to know, you started to struggle with the cursed woman again, it didn't work until you started talking to her. You found it was easier if you tried to give comforts to the poor cursed souls, and you had to do it reluctantly on these types of occasions, removing your headphones for greater concentration. You were terrible at comforting people, so it was like an uphill climb to get that curse to leave you alone.
"And that was ten minutes, you could have done it in twenty seconds if you knew how to use cursed energy."
"Just get lost, I already said no."
"We are offering you free knowledge, how can you refuse it?"
"Aren't public schools there for that?"
"There are no exorcization courses that I know of."
You rubbed your face desperately, you didn't want to learn sorcery, you didn't want to get in trouble, you didn't want to have to comfort anyone, you wanted your simple life, helping your parents, studying, getting a decent job. What kind of future would guarantee you knowing how to control that cursed energy? Clearly nothing good.
"I'm going to put it another way⊠you attract cursed energy, until now you have been lucky enough to find desperate souls in search of comfort, but what will happen when something much worse is stalking you? Something that seeks blood, your blood."
"Then I'll die, isn't it obvious?"
You raised your thumb with a sarcastic smile, you were too tired to continue a conversation, unfortunately Gojo's next words resonated in your head like a scratched record.
"What if they were your parents? They will not be safe by your side, as I said you attract bad energies."
A lump formed in your throat, letting a shaky breath escape your lips, he watched in silence as he had managed to hit your weak spot, your family, it was something you wouldn't change for the world, they were people who would die for you without a second thought, and just like them, you would give your life for them, they showered you with love and affection, the least you could do was protect them from your own problems.
As annoying as it was to give Gojo an affirmative answer, you had to swallow your pride for a greater reason, and just a week later you were already making the move. Covered as a kind of âErasmusâ, your parents were happy that you were going to explore and meet friends on your own, you wanted to tell them that you didn't want to go, that they would refuse to allow that decision, but that wasn't the case.
Then began what seemed like torture for you, as if you had fallen into a spider web and the more you struggled, the more you got caught in the webs. It was strange, everyone there seemed to have knowledge about who you were and where you came from while you were completely uninformed, it felt strange to be greeted so warmly by unknown people, inside you it was stressful to receive such a degree of attention, but you kept your expression unfazed.
You were like an extension of Megumi, only less expressive and definitely more stupid, you had no thoughts beyond your lost eyes staring into space, nothing made you flinch, nothing made you laugh, nothing made you have a hint of emotion that wasn't nervousness or tiredness. And yet the three first-year students, your classmates, could hear how you tried to drown out your nightly sobs, longing for your home and your family, how you secretly laughed lightly when you saw something stupid on your phone. Why didn't you want to share your emotions with them? Weren't they good enough for you?
You don't know what you triggered by strictly trying not to get emotionally close to people who from one day to the next could be in a grave, just because you couldn't stand it, just because you couldn't stand giving up more parts of your little heart to have them break later.
Itadori started to stick to you like a sticker, are you going for a walk? He needs to stretch his legs, do you want to laze around? He too! He is new to this world of curses like you, so he thinks it is better that you help each other in the face of complications and training. The first time he saw how a curse clung to you for comfort it almost gave him a seizure, he would never think he would be able to exorcise something so quickly, it worried him how used you were to being 'attacked' like that constantly and it only increased his worry, he needed to keep you safe from this dangerous world, it was a promise.
Megumi felt sorry, unlike him you had a normal and happy family, people to turn to, a little envious, he wasn't going to lie, but he tried to make you as comfortable as possible, maybe a little too paranoid about your well-being now that you were a novice unwilling to learn, he felt like he was your big brother, he wasn't going to take an eye off you even for a second, you could get hurt or worse and he had already experienced the bitter feeling.
Nobara was persistent that you open up to her, after all girls should be close, maybe she got too obsessed with that phrase when she watched suspiciously as Itadori dragged you to do something stupid âagainst your will but without the energy of to refuseâ and you weren't going with her to have a snack or shopping, she felt a pang in her heart, what if she's not there and something happens? She doesn't trust anyone to take care of you, everyone is inept in her eyes.
Gojo proclaimed himself your fake father, no matter how hard he tried, he would in no way replace the real one, but if he wanted to play the family game you would let him if that made him happy. His attitude was the one that bothered you the most because it made you look like a helpless person at his side, he made you look like you needed him to take care of you. You accepted being the weakest link, but you could fight your own battles, especially after discovering some of your abilities, but he wouldn't allow it, you're too adorable to let go.
After some tests, missions and training, they discovered that your cursed energy acted like an antenna, attracting all curses that wanted to be forgiven or sought freedom. You were cursed with the 'gift' of forgiving and freeing from torture curses that wanted to cease to exist, and you acted as a peacemaker on some occasions. Luck was definitely not on your side or it was kicking you for having laughed at so many other people's sorrows on the internet, couldn't you punch? Kicks? Do voodoo? Summon shikigami? No, you had to pat and release cursed souls.
You didn't have enough suffocating attention from the sorcerers that you also had to have that from the curses. You were going to look for the old woman who cursed you the day you entered her store in another life and you were going to sacrifice her in the name of barbatos.
"Hey there you were! We're going out to dinner, are you coming?"
Nobara opened your door without knocking, you didn't stop looking at the ceiling while you lay motionless in your bed, you shook your head slowly in denial, you weren't in the mood, you were never in the mood.
"Don't talk nonsense, there is no way you can stay here alone, come on, come on! Gojo will pay for everyone."
Itadori entered immediately, pulling your wrist to drag you, you slid off the bed like a dead body, looking blankly at the boy who was giving you a puppy dog look, it wasn't that that made you accept, but if you didn't accept you would pass more time arguing with them in a useless way. You had learned to accept your destiny, you had learned to stay still in that web, maybe if you manage not to move you can free yourself, just maybe.
"I'm glad you decided to accept! It is good to have bonding time with your classmates and teacher, it encourages communication."
You nodded, looking absentmindedly at your phone, scrolling through the screen without looking at anything in particular but not wanting to have to look at the albino's expression, he knew you were going to accept, he knew you were going to go with them because they wouldn't give you any other option. He put his arm around your shoulders dragging you towards the car while he chattered things that went in one ear and out the other.
"Will you sit next to me?"
" No way, she will sit with me!"
And the tug of war began between Itadori and Nobara over who you would sit next to, too stubborn to 'share' if you sat in the middle, they would prefer to be the only ones next to you, Megumi on the other hand was the smartest when entering the first, if he sat in the middle he would assure him that you would sit next to him, however, absorbed in the discussion, they did not notice how you moved towards the passenger seat, end of the discussion and the headache, now you just had to rack your brain thinking about how to solve the fight next to who you would sit at while eating without giving anyone the benefit.
Sometimes you think that you had to do something very terrible in your old life, something unforgivable and unimaginable to be punished right now, sometimes you think that the easiest thing would be to bang your head against the wall until you are stupid enough to have a caregiver and stop worrying about many things, now you had four caregivers but no concussion, for now.

Mary earps in the date to remember series âIâm beginning to question whether you only married me for my assâ idk about location, maybe home or out shopping?
part of the a date to remember series gentle pat II m.earps
"okay! shopping bag, keys, list, phone, backpack leash, snacks for bribery. are we ready? i think we're ready." your wife clapped from the front door as you gave her a look.
"mary." you deadpanned, raising an eyebrow as she looked on uselessly. "forgetting something?" you egged her on as again she seemed dumfounded, going through her checklist and shrugging.
"me!" delilah came barreling through from the bathroom as your wife blushed slightly and you shook your head.
"from putting yourself to bed instead of her, eating half her dinner before she even got home from dance last night and now nearly locking her in the house alone...better pick your game up earps." you squeezed your wifes shoulder, snatching the keys from her hand, grabbing the shopping bags from the floor and walking out the front door.
"yeah mama, pick your game up!" delilah grinned cheekily as mary scoffed, easily scooping the four year old up and tossing her over her shoulder. "pick my game up! righto cheeky i've had about enough of this little parrot routine aunty tooney taught you." mary rolled her eyes, delilah for the last week finding endless amusement in doing and saying whatever she did on a dare from ella.
you of course also found it hilarious given it wasn't you that was being copied, not even lifting a finger to try and help put a stop to it.
"i'm not a parrot!" delilah huffed banging her fists against marys back who stepped out and locked up the front door. "are too, gonna change your name from delilah to...feathers? or maybe chirpy? squawk?" mary pondered as you watched on from the passenger seat with a smile.
"no! not allowed to do that mama." you heard your daughter scowl, turning around with a grin and tickling her stomach as mary buckled her into her car seat and delilah giggled kicking away your hand.
"good news babe i've decided we're changing her name. we've got options; feathers, chirpy, squawk?" mary pondered sliding into her seat and starting up the car as you hummed and delilah continued to protest from the back.
"oh! could call her tweety? or maybe birdie?" you joined in as mary backed out of the driveway with a grin. "no! delilah delilah delilah delilah delilah!" the four year old chanted over and over.
"okay okay! you can keep the name delilah...for now." mary teased as delilah huffed and pulled a face. "lilah we've talked about this. if you make an ugly face and the wind changes you're stuck like that forever." you warned as she quickly slapped a smile on and started to wiggle around happily as you flicked on her favorite playlist.
~
"don't wanna wear it! please mummy?" your daughter looked to you with the puppy dog eyes that normally broke both you and your wife but today all it earned her was a shake of your head as mary helped her slip on the backpack.
"sorry babe, you lost that privilege the last time we went shopping and you ran off. remember mama and i had to come and get you from the big security man? and we were very very worried." you clicked together the straps so it sat securely on her as mary grabbed the leash part.
"sorry." delilah mumbled kicking a rock, though spotting a pigeon land a few metres away she sprinted off as mary was almost taken down to her feet at the sudden tension on the leash and you covered your mouth to cover your laughter.
grabbing the shopping bags you winced seeing your wifes training bag shoved in the back, the girl currently in mid season break you knew it would have sat there for awhile.
"urgh mary!" you groaned, pointing it out as she near dragged delilah back toward you, smiling guiltily and kissing your cheek, promising to do the washing the very moment you got home as you hummed.
"hey! my turn." delilah stomped her foot, tapping her cheek expectantly and making you laugh as your wife rolled her eyes playfully but ducked down to kiss all over your daughters face making her squeal.
"alright. off we go!" mary nodded as you closed the boot and locked the car, gently tapping you on the ass as you passed her causing you to glare at her over your shoulder and delilah to giggle as mary only winked.
"you're in trouble." delilah warned wagging her finger at your wife as you took off ahead of the pair of them. "you're in trouble." mary parroted shoving her head to the side as delilah tried to tackle her and mary dodged out of the way with a grin.
turning around to see them left behind and chasing one another about you rolled your eyes and cleared your throat loudly, raising an eyebrow with one hand on a shopping cart as mary scooped up your daughter and hurried over to catch up.
"divide and conquer." you ripped the list in two and handed her half as you entered the supermarket, marys grip on delilahs leash tightening as delilah held up her hand expectantly.
"where's mine!" she frowned when she wasn't handed a list making you smile. "you get the most important job tiny." you warned as her eyes lit up and she nodded. "babysitting mama and making sure she doesn't get distracted." you whispered as delilah nodded, hugging your leg.
"go mama! hurry." the four year old barked, tugging on your wifes jumper where she was stood reading the nutrition information on the back of tub of protein.
"yeah mama, hurry." you teased, giving her a wink as you took the cart and headed off to start your own shopping, though not before a hand collided with your ass.
"mary! for god sakes we're in public." you hissed in warning as your cheeks burned red and she only grinned and headed off in the opposite direction with delilah ordering her around as she went, hitting her every time she deemed her as distracted.
you met back up every now and then, trading delilah or the shopping cart as you went, your daughter for once incredibly well behaved which earned her a few extra treats tossed in when mary thought you weren't looking which made you roll your eyes with a smile.
you were staring at the freezer section trying to find the specific brand of dinosaur chicken nuggets you knew were delilahs favorite and also the easiest way to get her to eat vegetables if mary smothered it all with gravy.
but a sharp slap to your ass had your body whipping around with a glare however the face you were met with wasn't the one you expected.
"deliah!" you exclaimed in shock as mary stood behind her with somewhat of a proud smile, your daughter grinning cheekily up at you. "mama does it." your daughter shrugged as if that was excuse enough, racing over to the freezer and pressing her face against it in wonder.
"you're a terrible influence." you glared at your wife who was tugged closer as delilah moved toward the ice cream section, pulled back a little by marys grip on the leash.
"me? my love i simply don't know what you mean." she winked, reaching around to squeeze one cheek in her hand as you smacked her chest and pushed her away.
"i'm beginning to question whether you only married me for my ass." you sighed with a shake of your head, grabbing the leash as your daughter continued to pull and struggle, determined to reach the ice cream section despite barely moving an inch.
"of course not darling i married you for your mind, your wit, your passion...and your ass."

Locked in a room - @wolfstarmicrofic - word count: 281 - slightly NSFW but not explicit
âYou actually think thisâll work?â James murmured, peeking around the corner and eyeing the door of the broom closet nervously. Inside, two voices yelling could be heard, though the words were muffled.
âEither itâll work, or theyâll kill each other,â Peter murmured, also leaning out, looking just as scared.
âI meanâŠI know theyâre idiots. But how thick can they be?â Marlene asked, leaning around the corner as well, worrying at her lip. âMerlin, Sirius never shuts up about Remus-â
âNor Remus about Sirius-â Lily agreed, peeking around as well, twirling her hair in her fingers. âItâs gotten ridiculous.â
The voices had gone quiet.
âAt least you donât have to live with them,â James grumbled. âThe sexual tensionâs gotten to be a bit much, really.â
âNot to mention the fighting. Like cats and dogs,â Peter nodded vehemently.
âOr wolves and dogs,â James chuckled, eyes sparkling, sneaking a knowing look to the shorter boy.
But before either of the girls could question his strange correction, a loud bang from the closet made all of them jump, and Lily ordered, âAlright, let them out!â
All four friends rushed to the door, and James reached the handle, releasing the locked door, allowing Sirius, now clad in only his underwear, to fall sideways out of the small space, a shirtless Remus landing on top of him.
For a moment, all six people stared at each other, Remus and Sirius bright red, until James burst out, âSuccess!â while high-fiving Marlene, who looked just as thrilled.
âAlright, nothing to see here,â Remus grumbled, pulling himself and then Sirius off the cold stone floor.
âYeah, fuck off, Prongs. Weâre busy,â Sirius grinned, waggling his eyebrows.Â
âOh, gross,â Lily mumbled.

dog park
Leah Williamson x Reader
hope you enjoy!
p.s ACLs donât exist in this reality
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Thankfully, for the third time this week you were able to let everyone go home early. To go enjoy the ends of their day instead of being stuck in the office.
This also made you quite content cause you were able to go for a walk in the warmer than usual London weather, and take your dog with you. The poor dog that sits around your house all day while you are at work.
You quickly packed up your things and were driving through the cityâs peak hour, eager to go home and grab your dog to take him to the dog park before the sun went down.
It took you longer than expected on the road, so you just pulled inside. Staying in your white button up shirt and jeans and grabbed your dog and his leash. You changed into white sneakers that were at your front door and deciding on just driving to take your dog to the park.
You found a little bench as you slightly smiled at the image of your dog running around in front of you. âYeah go Bub â you said to your dog at your feet before throwing his tennis ball far.
Before your dog could run and catch it another dog managed to grab it and start running away, your dog chasing after it.
âSorryâ a voice slightly laughed behind you. You turned around to find the most beautiful blonde you had ever seen in your life,
âNo they are just playingâ you giggled
âYeahâ she said folding her arms and watching the dogs.
âWhat breed is that?â
âMy dog?â
âYeahâ you said
âOh sheâs a cavaliarâ
âCuteâ you smiled softly, keeping your eyes on both of your dogs playing together
âIâm just gonna guess you have a retriever thereâ she nodded towards your big blonde dog running around
âUh yeah thats Mollyâ
âAw. Iâm jealousâ
âWhyâ you laughed turning to her. She shuffled up to stand next to you instead of slightly behind you
âCause sheâs a golden retriever. A dream dog mateâ
âYours is adorable stop. Whatâs her name?â You smiled at the blonde next to you
The girl didnât speak for a moment. Eyes fixated on your face for longer than she thought. âOh Bellaâ
âI love herâ you said in awe as you noticed her running towards you guys, then running up to you before you crouched down to her level. âHi Bellaâ you said in your annoying dog voice. Your dog immediately attacking Bellaâs owner now.
You both got up and dusted the shed fur off your clothes. âIâm Leahâ she said smiling after folding her arms again to keep warm.
âIâm y/nâ you grinned and nodded back
âBeautiful to meet you y/n, hey whatâs the time actually?â She said motioning to the watch on your wrist.
âUh five to fiveâ
âShit how is it five already. I have to be somewhere soon and I have to walk. Bella come girl!â She said quickly pulling Bellaâs leash out of her back pocket and clipping it on the small dog
âNice to meet youâ you said and smiled as she got up to leave
âYou too! Hey you come often?â She slightly yelled, because she had started to quickly walk out of the park to be at her plans tonight.
âYeah most Afternoonsâ you smiled
âIâll see you aroundâ she grinned before turning around and starting to Jog with Bella beside her. You smiled to yourself. Leah was a very pretty girl.
âCome on Mollyâ you yelled before your dog heard the sound of her name and sped up towards you.
âââââââââââââââââ
It was a Saturday which meant, you hadnât been to the office thankfully, you knew you would have to do some small things for your company tonight. But you were now enjoying your weekend, alone in your home.
You were in your car on the way back from the mall, after treating yourself to a few new things. The London traffic continued to piss you off even when you werenât working that day. After being stuck in a line of cars, you banged your forehead on the steering wheel with a groan.
When you got home it was slightly later in the afternoon than you had hoped. But you decided it wasnât going to stop you from doing the walk to the dog park instead of driving.
Opening the gate to the dog area, you took off Mollyâs Leash to go find other dogs while you slowly walked around the park. When you sat down on a bench, an older man who you found quite adorable made conversation about how beautiful your dog was, a conversation which you happily carried on.
While talking, you noticed your Molly playing with a familiar dog, the chocolate coloured dog that happens to belong to the beautiful blonde you met here two days ago.
After the older man next to you finished his next sentence. You quickly exused yourself saying you needed to check something on your dog, which sounded plainly stupid.
You wouldnât lie if you said you felt bad about leaving the man to sit by himself, but you also wouldnât be lying if you said you were eager to come across Leah.
You found a girl with a ponytail and matching blue sweats, hunched over her phone sitting at a bench.
âDo you also come oftenâ you said walking up to her, probably seeming like a creep, you feared.
âOh hello youâ she said shutting of her phone, her charming words making your heart want to melt.
âI saw Bella and wondered if Leah would be hereâ the fact you remembered even her dogs name and her name from two days ago, made her face warm up.
âThey are both hereâ she smiled up at you, âwanna sit?â She asked motioning the spot on the bench next to her.
âHow close do you live to here?â You asked, again trying not to sound weird.
âUgh I walk and thatâs about 10 minutes. Itâs up that wayâ Leah said pointing to the streets to the left of the park. âWhat about you?â
â20 minute walk. Same wayâ you smiled, motioning towards the same direction Leah pointed to a moment ago. You sat in silence for another moment, watching your dogs become actual good friends. âSo Leah what do you do?â
Inside, she hated being asked that question sometimes, just when it was someone she found quite intriguing and beautiful. âUm Iâm a footballerâ
âNo way. What club?â You said now facing her, now extremely interested in the girl
âUm Arsenalâ she said slightly laughing, in her head she didnât know why she did that and suddenly got nervous.
âAre you pissing me?â You asked, quite shocked that she just mentioned that she played for the club you had been passionate about since you were born.
âNopeâ she blushed âI play for the womenâs team there, WSLâ
âNo way!â You said excitedly âdo you play for England?â You asked
âYeah I captain the womenâs team there tooâ she smiled at you charmingly. You did not expect her to say yes to your question.
âHuh!â You exclaimed, understanding what she was saying. Just so shocked.
âI donât know if I should feel happy or like notâ she laughed at your reactions, furrowing her eyebrows.
âNo happy duh! I love football, only played when I was young but like Leah thatâs like wowâ
âThatâs great-â
âShit you won the euros!â Now remembering hearing about the Lionesses. You knew who the team was, of course you did. You didnât know the players though.
âYeah we didâ she grinned, very wide.
âSorry I knew who the Lionesses were I swear. And the Arsenal Women. I just didnât know anyone on the teams. Sorry thatâs not very feminist of me, I should knowâ you said quickly, making Leah laugh. The wife smile not leaving her face.
âItâs not your fault. More people should know about womenâs footballâ
âI agree. And It starts with me and watching the gamesâ you said as you both laughed.
âAnd what do you doâ she said lightly tapping your shoulder, the tingle it sent through your body not leaving for a while.
âUmm Im a CEO of my architecture companyâ you said, eyes now on the dogs far from both of you
âDang woman, that sounds big. Your successful it seemsâ she said smiling, eyes and body facing you on the bench as you nervously kept yourself fixated on whatâs in front.
âComing from the England Captainâ
Your own success did make you proud of yourself you wonât lie, and like Leah, you liked telling people what you do. But sometimes got strangely nervous, especially around beautiful girls.
You pair didnât realise how long you had actually been sitting on the bench talking about anything and everything. âI should go and see what Iâll do about my dinnerâ Leah huffed slowly getting up.
Leah wanted to ask for your number. She really did.
But as usual got way too nervous.
âYeah Iâll head off tooâ you smiled at the slightly taller girl.
âHey you all good to walk back? I drove so I could always drop you home or somethingâ Leah asked before wanting to slap herself at her probably stupid words
âOh no I should walk back Iâll be ok. Thank you Leahâ you said sweetly.
Leah was kicking herself. She immediately felt you thought she was just trying to flirt with you the whole afternoon. Which she wasnâtâŠtrying to.
When you got home 20 minutes later, you quickly showered before heating up left overs from last nights meal. You sat down on your couch, Love Island UK on the tv in front of you as well as your MacBook, hopping on the internet to find out some more about Leahâs teams. You wouldnât search up the girl directly, you found that weird and creepy.
Plus, you would much rather hear all about her from Leah herself.
âââââ
You finished work later than you had hoped one night. But still remember you promised to go for late-night ice cream with your best friend Stella. Once you got home and changed into something much more comfy and warmer than your blazer and suit pants.
âOne scoop Chocolate pleaseâ you smiled at the teenage boy serving Stella and you.
âCup?â
âErm cone pleaseâ you said politely. After he handed you the desert and you paid, you waited for Stella to order herâs when a group of women walked in. All in matching red hoodies.
Leahâs eyes immediately fell onto your side profile that hadnât turned to her and her friends just yet, her heart warmed slightly when she realised it was you, the girl from the dog park, the one she blushed to her teammates about.
After you had noticed the group of girls, all walking in laughing from something an Irish girl was going on about. Your eyes finally fell on the certain England Captain. You smiled and shyly waved at her.
She waved back before one of her friends pulled her to choose flavours.
You folded your arms in warmth as you and Stella walked out of the small store, taking a seat at the tables outside.
âSorry I didnât fully see. But did you just wave at the girls in the Arsenal hoodies?â Stella asked curiously
âUm yeah I know one of them, Leahâ
âYou know who sorry-â
âLeah Williamsonâ you smiled as you played with the spoon in your hand
âFucking Leah Williamson?!â she clarifies, showing on her face her shocked expression.
âYes I see her when I take Molly to the park. Sheâs great to talk to actuallyâ you said before your spoonful of ice cream back in your mouth.
âPlease get with herâ Stella mumbled
âWhatâ you said
âIâm joking. But sheâs really really pretty. Get to know her. She also you know like won the euros, plays for Arsenal and is huge. Do you even know these things?â
âIâve seen her four times in my whole life firstly. And Yes I do-â you said before the bell of the shopâs door rang as Leah and her friends piled out of the store. She stopped where you were sitting whilst her friends found a table.
âHello you againâ she said smiling warmly down at you
âHi. Guess we do live pretty closeâ you slightly laughed
âYes we do. How you been?â She asks you
âIâve been great. How are you doing? Are they teammates?â You asked motioning to the group of girls, most of them smiling at your interactions. Which you quickly shied away from them.
âIâve been great. We actually just played a game, was a friendly though so pretty chill. And yes they are my teammatesâ she grinned raising her eyebrows
âHowâd you guys goâ
âThree, Nilâ
âLeah thatâs awesome!â You said tapping her hand in excitement that was resting on the back of your chair.
âThanksâ she smiled shrugging her shoulders, nervously. âHi Iâm Leahâ Leah said dipping her head slightly at a stunned Stella behind you.
âHi, Iâm Stellaâ she waved
âLovely to meet youâ she smiled before her eyes were brought back to you.
âYour ice cream might melt. Iâll let you goâ you said nodding to her friends at another table
âThanks but Hey itâs weird but could I get your number in my phone? Just so like I know when youâll be at the park and-â she started to ramble.
âYes of courseâ you smiled up at her before she gladly pulled out her phone and unlocked it so you could type in your number.
âSee you aroundâ she said happily before heading back to her friends.
âYeah Williamson!â Katie said pulling the blonde down roughly to sit on the chair, too loud for Leahâs embarrassment.
âThat was adorableâ Caitlin said calmly
âSmooth one you areâ Beth said, all eyes now on you talking to Stella from across the outdoor area of tables.
âI wouldnât call it that smooth. âJust so I know when youâll be at the parkââ Katie laughed, mimicking when Leah tried to get your number.
âShut up and eat that before it goes down your jumperâ Leah said motioning to Katieâs melted ice cream she was eating.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ

you smiled at your phone at the sweet texts. Now genuinely getting really excited for the game tomorrow
ââââââââââââ-
âCome on. You look beautiful I promise letâs just go pleaseâ you begged as Stella finished up the light waves in her hair
âWhy thank youâ she grinned, not hurrying up
âGirl Iâm literally gonna leave my house, lock it up, and drive to the emirates without youâ you said as you walked back up to your room so you could grab your bag. Stella stayed over last night and stayed in the guest house next to your pool, you found her slowly getting ready in there.
âOk im ready how do i lookâ she said meeting you at the front door, shoes in hand and bag across her body.
âFineâ
âBitchâ
âIâm joking you look beautiful. Itâs just football though. Now what about me I donât want to have to ask Stellaâ you said as you locked your door behind you.
âStunning for the Ms Williamsonâ she said, dragging out the Blonde you were talking toâs last name.
You lightly laughed before you both got into your blue Mercedes and drove to the emirates.
When arrived, you offered to grab you and Stella a drink while she found your seats. She texted you were to walk to after you had grabbed the drinks.
âSoâ Stella pipped up slightly as you handed her a drink before sitting down
âSo?â
âSo Leah was just warming up. Theyâve gone into the changing rooms again now, but she looked straight over here and was defieblty looking for someone. Hmâ Stella said curiously
âWonder who sheâs looking for thenâ you said shrugging and smiling
âDuh itâs youâ
âI highly doubt that Leah Williamson was looking for me in the crowdâ
âI just want to know how she knew where to look in the first placeâ
âWe were talking last nightâ
âYou called her!â Stella shrieked
âNo no just told her I was coming to the game and stuffâ
âOh my I am so happy for youâ
âNothing is happening. Also I forgot to tell you but she offered to get us better seats, but I felt badâ
âWhy did you decline-â
âIt just feltâŠI donât know, but beautiful you got us brilliant seats!â You said grinning as you pulled your best friend into your side
âYeah yeah but Leah Williamson provided seats wouldâve been a preferenceâ
You both watched as Leah and her team piled out in a line from the tunnel before lining back up again on the pitch.
-Leahâs POV-
I scanned the audience once again. In hope for y/n. My eyes fell on my excited mum before I smiled and waved at her.
Quickly falling off that track as my eyes found the beaming Brunette in the audience, she laughed loudly as her friend, Stella, I think I remember, whispered something in her ear.
In that moment in felt like the rest of the crowd was muted and I could make out only the sound of her laugh, from when I made her laugh multiple times at the park.
Yeah I did that
Both Stella and y/n eyes drifted to me and the girls after their giggles died down nd y/n finally found me.
Her cheeks fell a light shade of pink, as I felt mine turn crimson. She waved sweetly with the hand that laid in her lap. I waved shortly back as we both just chuckled for no reason, I didnât know why I always caught myself doing that around her, even now when she was so far away from me.
She held up a red sign, those 50p posters you can buy from the Gunnersaurus at the front of the stadium âCome on you Gunners!â Was read on the red cardboard as she waved it for me.
I laughed at her actions before she quickly put it back in her lap and laughed nervously to the girl next to her.
âHead in the game ya lover girlâ Vic whispered in my ear from next to me, before we prepared to take our spots on the field.
-end of POV-
âââââ
After only 8 minutes of the girls playing against the rival club, Chelsea. Beth Mead slotted the ball past the goal keeper, erupting you and the other supporters around you into cheers.
âMeadoâs on Fire! Your Defense is terrified! Meados on Fire! Na na naâŠâ
Stella informed you that it was in fact Beth Meadâs chant that was being sung loudly around you two. Stella tried to join in as you just laughed at your surroundings.
By the final whistle, another three goals made it into the net and you stood up and cheered loudly at the victory over Chelsea. Stella and you stood up and cheered for a little longer, before everyone started to leave so you started to gather your cups to throw in the bin and put your bag on your shoulder.
âOh my y/nâ Stella said as she waved at the field. Leah was waving to the two of you as she slowly walked over, Stella pulled you down with her to the bottom row of seats.
âDidnât think Iâd spot youâ Leah laughed
âI think youâre spotting me all around Londonâ you said making all three of you laugh
âDid you enjoy it?â
âOh yes! Great job out there you played amazingâ you exclaimed
âThank youâ Leah said leaning back with her hands on the barricade bar as she blushed.
âOkay well Iâll let you get back with your teamâ you smiled wide at the blonde below you
âOkay Iâll see you laterâ she smiled hoping she would see you again in the next few days. As she watched you walk off, she felt she missed something. âActually y/nâ Leah yelled your way while you were walking away, you very quickly spun around and walked back down to Leah as Stella kept on walking up the stadium
âYeahâ you said shyly as Leah just threw her head down, shaking her head with a laugh, âwhat?â You said confused as you laughed with her slightly
âWhat are you doing tonight?â She asked. It was only just after 4 oâclock.
âUmm no plansâ you smiled
âCan I ask if you want to go for dinner with me? I totally totally understand-â
âYes Leah yes I will of courseâ you said quick
âReally?â She said, she looked up at you with the smile of curiosity like a 3 year old. You just nodded fast.
âOkay well now I should definitely get back in. But Iâll text you when I get in there. Iâll pick you up yeahâ Leah said as you both took a glance at her teammates that were giggling at your interaction for the second time. You smiled at the girls as they waved excitedly at you, âthe girlâ Leah was talking about in trainings, not to your knowledge.
Leah knew she probably shouldâve asked if you wanted to meet some of them. But she was still slightly frozen in her words. âOkay then Iâll see you tonight then Leahâ you said to the blonde
âByeâ she smiled before you both parted ways
âAnd sheâs bagged the chick!â Kyra says jumping on Leahâs back as she walks back to her teammates.
âOiâ Leah says shrugging her off
âSeriously though, did you ask her out?â Caitlin says with a laugh, in hope she asked this time
âYes I did. Count me out of team dinner tonight!â Leah said before walking into the tunnel to the changing rooms
ââââââââ
âI canât believe you. Your so powerfulâ your best friend said as she stood in the door Frame of your bathroom, while you straightened out the waves in your hair from the plat you wore to the game
âUh powerful?â You said furrowing your eyebrows, eyes kept on the hot hair tool in your hand
âYouâre about to go out with Leah Williamson, who you casually met at a scrappy dog park a week and half agoâ
Usually you would rebuttal her, you didnât see this as powerful in any way, but you were happy to be going on a date with the girl. She seemed so genuine to you when you talked and you really appreciated that about her personality.
Well you werenât even 100% sure if it was an offical date.
You walked into your living room with your outfit on, a short white skirt with a matching top as a set, with a navy blazer. âTerribly cute or terrible?â You asked your best friend sprawled out on your couch.
âHoly shit you look angelicâ
âThank you. So definitely this?â You asked again
âDo not take it offâ she said settling it back into the couch, approving of your outfit, âonly Leah will do that tonightâ she mumbled the last bit.
âOi I heard thatâ you said shooting your head out from the hallway as you went to grab some things from your room.
âAlso when I go, feel free to stayâ
âNo Iâll let you have your house back to yourself Iâve overstayed my visitâ she said smiling âplus if you two want to come back here itâs better if Iâm not here feel me?â She winked
âYou could never ever overstay. And itâs just a dinner nothing is going to happen, I thinkâ you said hugging her from behind the couch. Before you felt a vibration in the bag on your shoulder, âokay Leah is here wish me luck Sâ you said pecking her cheek
âHave the best time. Please text me. I can pick you up in an instant if it goes horribly. Also Iâll leave ur place In a minute and lock upâ she reassured as you made your way to your door
âDonât worry about me or hassling to leave. Just lock my door if you do. Byeâ you said before blowing her a kiss
You heard Leahâs car engine outside your driveway gate, so you opened it up before walking to her car which was parked closer to your neighbours house.
She looked up from her lap in the car, to see you waking to her car. She seemed to panic and quickly got out of the car.
âWhoops Thought you lived thereâ she said pointing to the house next to you.
âNope wrong houseâ you said as you finally reached the blonde
âHeyâ she smiled softly, tilting her head to the side a tad. Before you hugged her, which she didnât think you would do straight away, but she immediately hugged you back.
âHi Leahâ you said after pulling away. âYou look stunningâ you said looking at her outfit
âComing from you gorgeous, Jesus Iâm flatteredâ she said making you chuckle slightly. âYou look incredible. You ready?â She asked before you nodded and she opened the car door for you.
âToo kind.â You said up at her before she gently shut the door. Your palms started to sweat, as you quickly brushed them on your skirt. Leah was making you extra nervous in her tight long sleeve black top and cream-coloured skirt that fitted her perfectly.
âWant to know where Iâm taking you?â she asked after she started her car.
âObviouslyâ
âItâs an underground restaurant my brother recommended to me. Sounds dodgy I know, but itâs quite nice actually. He went there for his birthday with my dad and they said it was amazingâ
âSounds Perfectâ you said
âReally?â
âYes really. I think I know which one your talking about, saw it on instagram I thinkâ
ââââ-
Leah ordered a bottle of red wine for the table, which you thanked her for. You sat in the lovely restaurant talking for what felt like an hour, before you decided it was best to probably order food.
When both your mealâs came, you thanked the waiter before you both quickly dug in.
âI should have gotten thatâ you said Ponting to Leahâs dish with your fork. Which was a nervous mistake.
âWhyâ Leah chuckled slightly
âLooks amazingâ
âWe can swap I donât mind-â
âNo no no gosh thatâs how it sounded I know, but Iâm just saying yours looks good. Iâm more than happy with mine promiseâ
âWell then your trying someâ
âNo itâs okay you dig inâ you said
âGo onâ she said pushing her plate slightly towards you
âNo Leah Iâm okay seriouslyâ
âY/n put some of the food your forkâ Leah said raising her eyebrows and using a sterner and lower voice, before you quickly poked the utensil into a small bite of her food âstop being so nice to meâ she added
âYou happy?â You said with a slight smile as Leah nodded, ânow youâ you said pushing your plate towards the blonde
âHappilyâ she shrugged before collecting a mouthful of your meal on her fork.
âOkay now that I have ranted about mine. Tell me about your familyâ you said
â okay well Iâm grateful that most of my family lives here, but my brother moved to Australia a bit agoâ Leah said
âOh wow I love Australiaâ
âYou do?â Leah asked before bringing her fork to her mouth
âYeah I went on exchange there in Highschool. My dream was to move there but I started my career here and stayed. What about your mum? I noticed you talking to her at the game before you saw me today â
âAt the game? Trust me I saw you the minute I walked out for warm upâ
âYou did?â You asked, eyes slightly in awe.
Leahâs reaction was a wave of blush to her checks and a massive shrug that brought all the way up to her face, smile wide as ever.
âWell anyways your mum looks lovelyâ you said
âYeah she is lovely, she isâ Leah laughed before going on about her mother , her laugh causing you to do the same and smile. The girlâs laugh very quickly became contagious to you. Her smile was bright and genuine.
âââââ
You were at the restaurant for too long. According to the waiter. So when the waitress handed you the bill, he placed it in front of Leah, which you quickly pulled away towards you and placed your card inside and then handing it back to waiter.
After he walked away Leah whined âno no no I was supposed to pay that was the planâ
âYeah well my plan was to pay also and look who wonâ you said with a shit eating grin, placing your chin on your fists, amusement covered your face at Leahâs dismay.
âThank youâ you and Leah smiled to the front waitress before she opened the door for you.
The London air was colder outside as you threw the blazer back onto yourself again. âIce cream?â You said Pointing to the ice cream place situated across the street from where you were
âObviouslyâ Leah quickly said before throwing her arm around your shoulders, pulling you into her side as you both walked.
âââââ
âIâd thank our dogs for this dateâ Leah said as youâd finally found a cute bench near a park to sit down while the eating your ice creams.
âItâs a date?â
âI meanâŠâ Leah said. She was right.
âJust kidding. Of course it is. And I thank your dogâ
âWhyâ Leah laughed
âMolly doesnât like making friends. When I take her to the dog park, she walks around and sniffs weeds by herself, then she takes a shit before she runs back to me signalling sheâs ready to get in the carâ
âLittle princess huhâ Leah laughedâdoes she get that from you?â
âFirst off, I wouldnât call that princess behaviour at all. Two, no Leah my dog is not like meâ you said with a hum.
After a little longer, You got back to Leahâs car and she was dropping you off.
She went on slightly a bit about her interest in Country music, which you complimented her on as soon as a Luke Combs song came up in the car. âI actually went to his concertâ Leah said from the seat next to you as she drove
âNo way me tooâ you exclaimed turning to the girl
âReally? it was awesome ayâ
âYeah it wasâ you smiled.
After a significantly fast but enjoyable 15 minutes, Leahâs car had reached your house. It started raining on the drive and it hadnât yet stopped âum where should I stop?â Leah asked looking around the front of your house from her car
âSince itâs raining do you mind if you drive in a bit. After this gate there is a bit of a drive way which takes me a few minutes to walkâ
âYeah no of courseâ Leah assured you
âPerfect thank youâ you smiled before pointing to Leah where to stop the car while you told Leah the code to punch in at the gate that only she could do from her side of the car. The gates slowly opened as Leah drove up. You both got out of her car and ran to your front porch, both soaking wet, causing both of you to laugh.
âHoly shit I love your placeâ Leah admired the exterior
âThank you Leahâ you smiled
âHow long have you lived here?â
âIâve had this place for 4 years but I knocked it down 3 years ago completely rebuiltâ
âDesigned by you Iâm guessing?â She asked
âYesâ
âI loveâ
You stood in silence for a quick second before Leah spoke up again âcâmon Iâll walk you to the doorâ
You both prepared yourself for the rain again when you pulled Leahâs hand and ran with her to your front door, back to some cover. Once you got to the door and you let go of her hand, it took Leah slightly longer to let go. âThanks for tonight. I had the best time I have had in a whileâ you smiled softly, your dimples showing significantly, which made Leah want to melt into a puddle with the rain right there and then.
âMe too. And Iâm glad you had a great timeâ she smiled.
âIâd love to do it again soonâ
âAs soon as we possible can?â Leah asked
âYeah why notâ you shrugged playfully
âOkay well Iâll let you get some sleepâ Leah said softly before she hugged you tightly.
âThanks again. Next time Iâll take you somewhere, so check ur textsâ
âWouldnât miss itâ the blonde smiled
âAnd Iâll be at your next gameâ you winked at her
âThat means a lot to me. And good luck with your work thingo tomorrow. Smash it for meâ
âWill do Williamson. Goodnightâ you said with a warm smile once again
âNight y/nâ Leah said before spinning around to her car and you unlocked your door to your house. âText me when you get home safely-â you yelled out to her, back to her car still as you were opening your door. You didnât notice her grab the end of your hand from behind you and spin you towards her quickly as she kissed you.
The kiss made your head spin wild. You hadnât been kissed in forever.
Well, Lie, you kissed a rando at a bar for a few seconds last week while you were drunk. But it was besides the point and didnât count.
You quickly kissed Leah back. The feeling of her lips finally reaching yours was euphoric to you. When she slowly pulled away, you both blushed while looking into each otherâs eyes.
Eye contact. Something the English captain did all too well.
âSorry I donât usually do that on a first dateâ Leah breathed out quietly before you gently grabbed her cheek and kissed her again for a captured second.
âNeither. Felt right to me though. Thank you again Leahâ
âNo thank you y/n. Iâll actually let you go now. Iâll text you when I get homeâ she smiled at you
âYou betterâ you said to her as you watched her walk to the car from your front door. You waved to her car sweetly, before heading inside and shutting your door. You jumped on the spot for a moment, like a small girl. As you walked to the kitchen so you could call your best friend, biting your lip with a cheesy grin on your face.
âââââ
It had been two months of seeing Leah. Whether it was after the four games you had been to since your first, planned visits at the dog park, at each others houses or cute low-key dates.
No labels yet.
You and Leah connected so beautifully fast, that it just felt a tiny bit too soon to put a label on anything. You both, for now, just enjoyed each other company. Sharing a few kisses everyone now and then. Thatâs all.
âââââ
Y/n
Get Bellaâs leesh on and grab a jumper we are all going to dog park
Leah
Hello y/n
Y/n
Yes hi love
Iâll be there in like 5 minutes
Leah
Itâs raining look out the window
And it has been all day
Y/n
My point exactly.
And We can just sit under the covered bench
imagine how much fun the girls would have playing the rain!
Leah
Uhh
Y/n
Please!
Leah
Okay we are ready. Text me when you are here
You arrived at Leahâs house as she jumped in the front and put Bella in the back with your dog. âHiâ she pecked your lips as you drove off
âHelloâ
âIf we get ill from the weather i wonât hesitate to tell my coach it was your faultâ
âYou wouldnât. And no we wonât get ill now come onâ you said as you parked near the park and grabbed your umbrella to share.
Leah grabbed the umbrella from your hands as she was slightly taller, before she put it up and you both walked together. You ended up just doing a walk around the park together a few times while your dogs ran free.
You would be lying if you said you didnât enjoy the rain. Just like you were a little girl again, playing in your raincoat in classic English style. You didnât know that Leah also found it enjoyable. âCâmon you know you want toâ Leah giggled as she put down the umbrella. Completely exposing both of you to the pouring water. She pulled your hand as you ran with her in the rain.
You couldnât stop laughing from happiness that when you both stopped running you both had to bend over and rest your hands on your knees. You stood up straight and pulled Leah up before pulling her into a passionate and long lasting kiss.
Your hands wrapped onto her neck as she dipped you slightly, causing you to squeal. She laughed at your own laugh as her hands wrapped around your waist before you jumped up into her arms, after the tap signal on your thigh from Leah.
âThis is my rom com moment!â You laughed loudly as Leah agreed
âWill you be my girlfriendâ Leah smiled at you up in her arms
âHuh!â You said over the loud rain surrounding you
âWill you be my girlfriend!â She said louder
âGirlfriend?â You clarified. She nodded fast. You just pulled her in for another passionate kiss. âOf course I will Leahâ you said as she spun you both around before your lips met once again.
ââââââââââââ
might be one of my favs
Hope you enjoyed love uđ

Kiss Me More. Pt. 1
silco x f!reader - 4.1k words - SFW
summary: âWhatever, all Iâm saying is, I can teach you how to kiss,â Silco insists, before adding just a little too nonchalantly, âYou know, if you want to.â
cw: first kiss, practice kissing, mild angst, fluff, jealous silco, first love, falling in love, friends to lovers, soft silco my beloved, young silco
-
You can always tell if Silco is home by the level of carnage that your living room is currently exuding.Â
Honestly, itâs like the boy arrives home from work, stands smack-bang in the middle of the room, and shakes off all his belongings like a dog caught in the rain. In fact, you wouldnât be surprised if he did exactly that.
Vander, on the other hand, is at least a little bit more tidy. A little bit less chaotic.Â
For example, you can tell that Vander isnât home right now because his shoes arenât lined up neatly next to the door (unless, of course, heâs come home barefoot which has happened before).
But, you know for a fact that Silco is home because his backpack is currently strewn across the sofa, his coat is somehow hanging off the lamp, and his shoes are leading an obvious trail through the room; one behind the other, like some abstract art of an invisible man walking.Â
Oh, and also because you can hear him loudly cooking dinner in the kitchen.Â
âSil, Iâm home!â you call out, toeing your shoes off and pushing them up against the wall by the front door with your feet.
âHey! Just making us something to eat!â he shouts back.
Setting down your bag next to your shoes, you allow yourself to drop just as heavily onto the sofa, only pausing once to chuck Silcoâs bag over the back of it, just so you can laugh at him when he canât find it later.
A long day at work means youâre that kind of tired where you canât quite tell whether itâs your muscles that are aching or your bones themselves.Â
Youâre completely still - head resting back, eyes glazed at the ceiling⊠for approximately two seconds before you realise your foot is tapping anxiously against the floor. Itâs not long before your whole leg is jiggling, nervous energy building up until-
âHey, Silco?âÂ
âYeah?â he calls back, still in the kitchen.Â
âHow do people know how to kiss? Like how are you supposed to know what to do?â you ask, both still shouting somewhat to hear one another.Â
Thereâs a pause. Then an incredulous-
âWhat?â
Youâre not quite sure if Silco didnât understand the question or whether he just didnât hear you properly, so you ignore him until he finally pops his head around the open doorway of the kitchen to look at you.
His jet hair is mussed and a little wavy, probably from running his hand through it too much, and thereâs a little streak of coal dust on his jaw. The thought of getting up and gently wiping it away for him flits through your mind but is forgotten entirely when he clears his throat, startling you back to his expectant expression.Â
âI said, what do you think is the proper way to kiss someone? You know, so it feels⊠uh, good and stuff?â
Silco screws up his face in confusion.
âWhat the fuck are you talking about?âÂ
You huff a breath of annoyance and tiredly run a hand through your hair.
âItâs justâŠâ you begin, trailing off as embarrassment begins to heat your cheeks. But itâs only Silco. Youâve known each other for forever, so you power through in hopes of getting the answers you want.Â
âItâs just that Iâve never kissed anybody before and I donât want to mess it up.â
Youâd been asked out on your very first proper date today and out of all the things youâre nervous about, kissing is, without a doubt, at the very top of that list.Â
So what if people might think youâre a late bloomer - youâve just never gotten round to it before! Youâve been far too busy working your arse off to make sure you and the boys could keep the home youâd all worked so hard to afford, let alone keep putting food on the table.
Plus, growing up and living with two ridiculous boys of your own had put you off wanting to spend time with any more for a good number of your teenage years (seriously, do all their bedrooms smell that bad?)
But today a boy youâd met a few times in the shop you worked in had asked you out on a date.
And maybe it was because heâd looked at you in a way that no-one else ever had before (in a way that made you feel like the only girl on Runeterra), or maybe it was because you felt like it was high-time you started thinking of yourself for once, but whatever the motive, youâd said yes.
Which had promptly led you to this current dilemma: One, what if he wants to kiss me? And two, how do I kiss?
Hoping Silco had heard some tricks from some of his friends at the mine, you thought heâd at least respond with some useful advice. Youâre decidedly not expecting him to gawp at you like he used to do at the fish in the Undercityâs scuffed aquarium (also known as, sneaking into the underground factories at night to see the big glass windows lining the river).Â
âYouâve never kissed anyone before?âÂ
A jerk of your head up to stare at himâŠÂ
He has?
âWait, youâve already had your first kiss?â you squeak, hopelessly trying to keep the wobble out of your voice.
Heâs definitely never talked about having his first kiss before. Why wouldn't he tell you something like that? (And why is thinking about all of this making you feel so uneasy?)
Silco pushes off the doorway heâs leaning on and crosses into the living room, choosing to perch on the arm of the sofa next to you. Heâs still holding a spatula in his hand, which you would have normally teased him for if you werenât so caught up having a crisis over Silcoâs apparent love life.Â
âYeah, when I was like, thirteen,â he answers flippantly, as if itâs common knowledge. Old news. Last weekâs gossip.Â
âWhat?â
Youâre aghast. Stranded out in an ocean with no lifeboat.
Thereâs this weird feeling bubbling up inside of you and for some reason your brain is hissing the word jealousjealousjealous like a wretched, little goblin, but youâre not jealous, you have no reason to be jealous.Â
Gods, itâs not like you and Silco even like each other, youâre best friends, always have been, always will be.Â
âWith who?â you demand, crossing your arms across your chest and then promptly uncrossing them when you feel ridiculous.Â
âGods, I donât remember, it was ages ago,â he says, pure indifference just oozing from him.Â
âWow,â you exclaim flatly, your sarcasm nearly reaching slow-clapping levels at his gross attitude. âWoooow.âÂ
âWhat? Iâm supposed to remember every single kiss Iâve ever had?â he retorts with a roll of his eyes.Â
You think you might have pulled a kidney. Or maybe your ribs have come loose.Â
Thereâs been more than one kiss? Too many to remember or even bother to keep count?Â
You canât help but fall silent, staring at the ground as a sick, uneasy feeling spreads through you at a rate you canât even hope to control.Â
Oblivious as ever, Silco doesnât even notice your internal spiral.Â
âWait, why do you want to know how to kiss? Who are you planning on kissing?â he all but demands, concern creeping into his tone.
Itâs matched by the frown that paints his features when you finally drag your gaze back up to his face.Â
âSeven,â you tell him before mumbling shyly, more to yourself than to him. âAnd I donât know for sure if weâre gonna kiss.âÂ
Now itâs Silcoâs turn to blanch.Â
âWho?â
âYou know, that boy who comes into the shop sometimes,â you huff in annoyance.Â
Janna, he never listens to you.
His reaction is to grimace and youâre not entirely sure why it warrants such a visceral reaction.Â
âI thought you found him annoying,â he points out (rather unhelpfully, if you do say so yourself).
Okay, technically, you had said that. At first youâd found his hovering a bit stifling, especially when you were trying to work. But now that heâd asked you out, you think he canât be all that bad.Â
âWell, yeah, at first, but heâs kinda sweet when you get to know him,â you explain, unable to hold back the little smile that crosses your lips when you think about the moment heâd gently tucked a piece of your hair behind your ear. It was probably the most romantic thing anyoneâs ever done for you.Â
Beside you, Silco pretends to gag loudly. Heâs gross.Â
Youâre just about to punch his leg as hard as you can in retaliation, but the exact moment you do, he reaches up to nervously push a hand through his hair. Except, heâs forgotten that heâs still holding the spatula, so instead he comically smacks himself in the face with it.Â
Silco jolts backwards briefly before looking down at the utensil in his hand and you can just see the moment he remembers the food-
âShit!â
He scrambles off the sofa and back into the kitchen, almost slipping on one of his own shoes in the process.Â
âIdiot,â you mumble under your breath when he finally disappears from your line of sight.Â
You cross your arms and slump back against the sofa, half in denial of the pout you know youâre sporting. That bone tiredness has been swiftly replaced with a strange, confusing feeling that you cannot for the life of you put a name to.Â
Why would Silco care about who you go on a date with? If anything, you thought heâd be happy that youâre finally putting yourself out there. You know, exploring, having fun - something that isnât just working and sleeping and yelling at Silco when he steals your tweezers.Â
The sounds from the kitchen all cease in abrupt succession, silence ringing out when he finally steps back into the living room.Â
His arms hang down awkwardly by his sides and he avoids eye contact with you, choosing instead to stare at the stain on the wall by the door.Â
âBurnt it,â he announces sheepishly.
âSiiiiil,â you groan dramatically, throwing your head back to look at the ceiling as your arms drop heavily down against your thighs. âWe can barely afford food as it is!â
âOh, be quiet,â he hushes with a sneer. âIâll give it to Vander when he gets back home and Iâll make us something else in a minute.â
Vander had been doing extra shifts in a pub most evenings, just to make sure you guys stayed in the green and didnât lose the apartment or miss any unnecessary meals. Honestly, you have no idea how he does it after working all day in the mines.Â
You roll your eyes at Silco but canât find it in yourself to be truly mad.Â
Instead of starting dinner again like he said he would, Silco carefully sits next to you on the sofa. You can tell heâs staring at you but you ignore him, keeping your gaze fixed on the window, eyes unfocused enough that all the neon lights blend together in a colourful swirl.Â
Itâs quiet for a little bit, bar the usual noise of the apartment building and Silco noisily fiddling with a clasp on his shirt, before he abruptly says out of the blue-
âYou know, if youâre worried about not knowing how to kiss, you could always practise on me.â
A beat. Then you slowly tip your head sideways to look at him.
âWhat?â
âWell, you know what they say, practice makes perfect,â he begins, making brief eye contact before darting away like heâs been caught. âAnd if you want to impress this Six guy-â
âSeven."
âWhatever, all Iâm saying is, I can teach you how to kiss,â Silco insists, before adding just a little too nonchalantly, âYou know, if you want to.â
If you werenât so tired, you might have laughed at him. Or smacked him up the head.Â
But you must really be exhausted because you do neither of those things, instead squinting at him as the cogs turn sluggishly in your brain.
Heâs not⊠wrong, per se. Practising would make you feel more prepared for it if it happens on your date.Â
âI mean, I guess so,â you admit to him slowly.Â
You shift your body to the side and really, properly consider him for the first time, trying to imagine yourself kissing Silco.Â
And just like that, your stomach erupts into butterflies and you suddenly have no idea what to do with your hands. (Funny, you didnât feel like this earlier when you thought about kissing SevenâŠ)
To his credit, Silco allows you to consider his offer in silence as you try to figure out what you want to do.
You canât really argue with his logic. It would be good to know what youâre doing beforehand so you can impress Seven, or at the very least avoid embarrassing yourself.
And Silco is safe. Youâve known him practically your whole life and heâs never truly let you down yet.Â
The more you think about it, the more it feels like a good idea. (And it seems to pass you by that by kissing Silco as a practice for your first kiss, Silco himself will be your first kissâŠ)
You shift your body to face him a bit more, smiling up at him.Â
âYeah,â you say with a croak, before clearing your throat and speaking again just a little more confidently. âOkay.â
âYeah?â he asks, searching your expression for any sign of hesitance.Â
But youâre not hesitant. A little nervous, sure, but this is new, itâs normal to be nervous.Â
You throw him a big smile hoping he understands.Â
"Yep!"Â
Silco offers you one of the softest smiles youâve ever seen from him and it makes your chest feel all fluttery and nice.Â
Then, he slides closer to you and gently takes your cheek in his hand.Â
âWhat, l-like, right now?â you stutter, eyes nervously darting up to meet his.Â
Silco freezes and his gaze flickers between your eyes and your lips.Â
âI mean, thereâs no time like the present, right?â he says, waiting for your confirmation before moving any further.Â
He just caught you off-guard, thatâs all. Itâs not everyday you kiss your best friend as practice for when you kiss your first ever boyfriend.Â
âYeah, I guess.â
You take roughly five seconds to fully prepare yourself - yes, this is actually going to happen - before shifting yourself to face him properly.Â
âOkay. Ready now?â he asks, unable to hide the little smile working its way onto his lips.Â
âYep, ready,â you confirm, smiling back up at him as your heart begins to beat rapidly in your chest.
Silco leans down slowly, his hand still gently cupping your face, and your eyes close instinctively, suddenly giddy as his nose brushes your cheek.
Then, he closes the gap and presses his lips to yours.
For a second or two, you just get used to the feeling of him. How his lips are somehow dry and soft at the same time. How he tastes of peppermint gum laced faintly with cigarette smoke, even though youâve told him repeatedly that he should stop and who the hellâs he trying to impress anyway?
You only just have the presence of mind to purse your own lips against his when he pulls back from you (and you force yourself to ignore the disappointment of that being it).
Luckily for you, that is not it.Â
âOkay, not bad, now I need you to move with me,â he says, licking his lips and pushing back his hair only for it to flop back to the exact same spot.
Huh? Â
âMove⊠with you?â you ask as if youâre in a daze.Â
âYeah, like, move your head and lips a bit more. Just follow my lead,â he explains confidently, almost indifferently. âAnd you can use your hands if you want.â
âWhat?âÂ
Okay, youâre baffled now. What do hands have to do with kissing?
âYou could put them around my shoulders, or⊠or in my hair,â Silco tells you, briefly avoiding eye contact as he mumbles out the latter.Â
The bashful way he says it makes you think thatâs what he prefers.Â
âOkay,â you nod slowly, trying to take it all in. "Move my head and lips, use my hands. Got it."Â
This time you're the one to move closer to him, leaning up to place your hand along his jaw.
Silco joins you halfway, meeting your lips once more with a slow, chaste peck before he dives back in for more, this time a little bit deeper.Â
He tilts his head a little and oh wow, that feels even better.Â
You try to heed his advice, this time actively moving your lips against his. Silco must notice the change because he kisses you even harder, pressing forward until you sway back with the motion.Â
A hand snakes around the nape of your neck, pulling you back to him and you think your heart swoops in your chest as he does. That same hand travels lightly down your spine, fingertips dancing along the back of your shirt, bringing out the most delightful shiver.
Fuck, you get it now.
Your own hands trail up from his jaw and slide smoothly into his hair, until your fingers accidentally get caught on a little knot in the strands, causing a rough little tug against his scalp.
And Silco groans, travelling from the back of his throat into your lips and it makes you jump back in surprise.
But he doesnât let you go far, one hand darting to the back of your head to keep you close.
His lips brush against yours as you both breathe heavily, neither one of you wanting to move away.Â
âDo you want to stop?â he says, voice husky and low.
A half second to catch your breath before a vehement-Â
âNo.â
And then heâs right back at it, kissing you even harder. Even more urgently.Â
Now, his hands snake into your hair, tugging gently until you gasp at the pleasurable sensation spreading through you.Â
Silco takes the opportunity to slide his tongue into your mouth and youâre immediately overwhelmed by the heat that floods your body.Â
It feels like your hands have a mind of their own because without even telling them to, theyâre suddenly gripping at Silcoâs shoulders, then his cheeks, and then yanking the short hairs at the back of his head.Â
The noise Silco makes this time can only be described as a moan, low and throaty, and just when you think you couldnât feel any hotter, Silco grabs your waist with both hands and pulls you towards his lap.Â
You straddle one of his thighs, knees pressing into the sofa, hovering slightly above him as you continue to kiss, an ache building within you every passing moment.Â
Gods, what is this feeling? You swear youâve never felt like this before, like you could keep kissing him forever.Â
But you donât because suddenly Silcoâs hand moves up the back of your shirt to land on the small of your back, and the feeling of his hot skin on yours makes you squirm in his grasp, breaking your kiss once and for all.
You lean back to stare at him, jaw slack.Â
Did that really all just happen? Did you really just kiss your best friend and like it so badly that you want to do it again?
Youâre both breathless, chests heaving like youâve just run a marathon. And while your jaw may be slack, Silcoâs is actually slightly agape, his eyes half-lidded as he stares at you.Â
Heart racing, it takes you a few seconds to realise that you have no idea what heâs thinking right now.Â
Youâve never seen him look like this before and youâre a bit scared to know what that means. Itâs like heâs never seen you before.Â
Of course, thatâs when the panic starts to set in because, what if youâve upset him? What if youâve ruined everything?Â
Physically unable to stand the thought, you begin to clamber up from where youâre still straddling his thigh when his hands instinctively dart out to grab your waist, keeping you in place above him.Â
You look down in shock and only then does he let you go, almost as quickly as heâd latched on.
Dropping down heavily onto the sofa, you make an attempt to get your breath back, but donât quite manage to calm your racing heart as you stare at the floor, hands curled around the edge of the cushion below you.Â
Usually, round about now, Silco would say something witty, or make fun of you, but instead heâs eerily silent, avoiding eye contact like itâs the plague.Â
Why isnât he saying anything?Â
Fuck, you canât take it anymore.Â
âWell, uh, thanks for the lesson,â you say awkwardly, shuffling off the couch and standing up.Â
You need to go for a shower or maybe scream into your pillow for a bit. But Silco stops you in your tracks, grabbing your hand before you can barely take a step.Â
âI donât think you should go on your date,â he blurts out, the first thing heâs said in nearly a whole minute.Â
Your head swivels to look down at him.Â
âWhat? Why?â
Silco dares to look at you for a scant second before his eyes dart away like heâs embarrassed. He drops your hand, clasping his hands together as if your touch burned him.Â
âUh, âcause I need your help putting that shelf up.âÂ
He nods to the piece of wood currently lying up against the wall across the room, where itâs been for the last six months.Â
âAnd someone needs to be here in case our parcel gets delivered,â he continues. You think he might be trying to look casual, but honestly, the way he keeps running his hands through his hair makes him look more insane by the second.Â
Youâre so distracted by it, you forget to point out that you havenât even told him what day you were planning to go on your date.Â
âSilco,â you huff, frustrated. âVander can help you with the shelf and Mrs Oliver can take the parcel if no-one is in.â
Youâve never seen the old lady next door leave the apartment once in your entire time living here.Â
âI still think you should stay in,â Silco insists.Â
âYouâre being ridiculous,â you exclaim, throwing your arms in the air. âPutting up a shelf and taking in a parcel doesnât take a whole evening!â
His whole body language shifts as he changes tack.Â
âWhereâs he taking you anyway?âÂ
âI donât know, he said itâs a surprise.â
Silcoâs response is immediate.Â
âThat sounds really dodgy,â he exaggerates. âMaybe I should come with you just to be safe.â Â
Okay, maybe thatâs what this is all about. Maybe heâs just being overprotective and trying to look out for you. You can deal with that.Â
âSilco, Iâll be fine, I know how to look after myself,â you try to reassure him.Â
âYeah, but I donât like the thought of you going somewhere I donât know with a complete stranger. Itâll be safer if I come as a chaperone, I know how to handle things,â he tries to say wisely. It comes across a little bit smug. Â
âYou canât even cook dinner without burning it to a crisp,â you point out.Â
âIt isnât burnt to a crisp,â he hisses. âAnd that was your fault anyway for distracting me.â
Alright, thatâs it.Â
You put your hands on the back of the sofa and lean over him slowly, Silco mirrors the action as he leans back with you, his eyes widening as his hand clutch the sides of his trousers until his knuckles turn bone white.Â
Your voice drops, low and (hopefully) threatening.
âSilco. I donât care what you say, Iâm going on my date. Alone,â you say defiantly. Thereâs a brief pause where you realise that statement is nonsensical, so you add, âWith Seven.â
His awestruck expression melts into a scowl, but you donât wait for his rebuttal, pushing yourself off the sofa back and straightening up, ready to walk out the room.Â
âWhere are you going?â Silco calls, slightly breathless for some reason.
âFor a shower,â you throw over your shoulder.Â
âI used up all the hot water,â he says back.Â
Youâre far too frustrated to think of a reply so instead you just huff and stomp out of the room, leaving him to stare after you, as you wonder what the hell just happened.

âMeeting Yandere! Vincent â
pairing: yandere! Vincent x fem readerÂ
summary: Meeting Vinny <333
warnings: n/aÂ
authors note:Â
Vincent had brushed into the small town a few months earlier on a contract for his engineering firm. The job paid well and he had little to no attachment anywhere so he made the move. He lived in an upscale condo about 30 minutes out from the actual town heâd be working in. Paid for by the company of course.Â
He had a routine, call mom once a week, send a letter once a month, go to work every weekday, go to the gym every weekday, grocery shop on Sundays, and get a haircut every 3 weeks. Not much changed for him really unless it was necessary.Â
He liked it that way, in his free time he drew, invested, and dabbled in a few books and tv. He wouldnât call himself the happiest man alive, but he was getting by, and his mom was doing well. Thatâs all he ever wanted.Â
Just like any other day on the job site Vincent set in his small office inside the mobile trailer going over blueprints and whatnot. That is until you came banging on the flimsy trailer door. Vincent thought the damn police were here. Lo and Behold when he opened the door there you were in pajamas, and slippers, and sleep still in your eyes.Â
As soon as the door opened you spoke, âLook man, I really was nice at first and didnât say anything but do yâall have to be so loud at 7 am? Itâs waking me and my son.â
Vincent stood there deadpan he didnât know what to reply. There was nothing he could really do to delay construction in the early hours without derailing the whole project. And normally he would have slammed the door in your face had it been anyone else. But you, you made his heart beat fast and he blanked on a response. Besides the fact that he was a man of very few words.
âCome in.â He said as he pulled you into the office like trailer.
âYou seem to be the boss sir, is there anything you can do?â You said while rubbing your eyes.
âYou must live in the house a few acres over, whatâs your name?â He spoke low and grumbly.
âYeah I do, itâs a family house but no one gives a shit anymore. All moved off to the big city, scared of the water. Oh, Im f/n l/nâ you replied in an annoyed tone. Â
âI canât tell them to halt all work in the morning is there anything I can do instead?â He asked, wanting to remedy this. He didnât want to upset you. You were alluring to him. This was also the most he had spoken to anyone in days.
âYou come to explain to my son why youâre disrupting his sleep!â you said with irritation in your voice.
When Vincent got to your home to apologize to your son, he was met with Ben. Ben was a 3-year-old beautiful Doberman.Â
Vincent was a bit relieved it was a dog and not a child, as he was already daydreaming about how he would give you your first child.
Vincent didnât speak much or have the best social skills but he knew that his interest in you wasnât normal. Nor did he know how to express such interest.
Good thing you found him handsome, and took interest in his quiet reserved demeanor. You had to know more, you had to dig past the surface. You were bold and willing to take charge and make the moves. You had never seen a man like him in your town before, or anywhere for that matter.Â
You were happy you went and complained that morning. Who said complaining didnât get you anywhere?

So I make a loooot of shitposts and jokes (mainly because my actual career is writing dark and serious novels and therefore I come to Tumblr to get away from that) but I FINALLY wanted to write a post that sums up my thoughts regarding the Hickey/Tozer dynamic because it fascinates me so much.
I'm putting it under a read more because I know I'm going to ramble.
Okay so first of all, as much as I may like to make jokes about the sex being so good it drove a guy to mutiny, I don't actually believe there was any sexual intimacy between Hickey and Tozer at all. This is mostly because I think post Carnival NOBODY was getting laid, everyone was far too sick and weak and tired for that - do I think in different circumstances it could have happened between them? Possibly, yeah. I definitely see the dynamic as romantic, but in a weird, unspoken, 'whatever the hell they have going on is also way more complicated than that' way.
The main thoughts I have about how and why Tozer ends up locked into in the Worst Situationship Of All Time are mainly due to three factors:
Heather's death and the breakdown of command.
The obvious Oh Shit moment of watching the Tuunbaq devour Collins' soul.
Physical touch.
The first one is the primer, as it were. It sets Tozer up as angry, desperate, and willing to mutiny. It's already become clear by Carnival that command is breaking down, they don't know what to do, and what a soldier needs more than anything is a CLEAR, DECISIVE CHAIN OF COMMAND. Without that, Tozer - who already has some Opinions about the way the marines are being put at additional risk (unionise, king) - has no one to keep him on a leash, for want of a better word. He's a dog trained to kill that suddenly doesn't have a master. He cannot be in command himself. He needs someone above him; he's not a leader.
This builds and builds, but then Heather's death - the loss of any vestige of something that would keep him loyal, since evidently Heather's care would continue under ordinary command - at the hands, essentially, of the very command he's started to doubt...well, that's it. Gun primed.
The discovery of Fairholme's group shatters any remaining hope he may have had, Crozier's reluctance to tell the men only further compounding the 'command is failing' mentality Tozer already has in spades. And there you go - the trigger is pulled.
BANG. Mutiny.
The second major factor comes after he's thrown in his lot with Hickey in a way he can't go back on. He sees Collins' soul sucked from his body by Tuunbaq before his very eyes. Suddenly, everything he thought he knew has been tipped on its head and an existential crisis he definitely didn't expect or need is thrust upon him, but now any decision he might have made to stay with Crozier and co based on this revelation is no longer open to him. The gun is still smoking, there's no way of putting the musket ball back, and now Hickey is his only option.
But maybe that isn't so bad? Because Hickey is providing something command didn't. He seems in control. He seems to know what he's about, what he's doing, and what to do next. He gives clear concise orders. He's taken up the leash command dropped, and Tozer has a master again. He feels like a marine again, like some of his identity has returned to him in a weird, perverse way (and we know Tozer is incredibly proud of being a Royal Marine from his earlier conversations)(not to mention Crozier's remark to Fitzjames about not asking the men to leave bits of themselves behind straight away when leaving the ships; Tozer has already lost bits of himself, when Heather died, and he lost faith in command).
Tozer is NOT willing to do a second mutiny because that would put HIM in charge, stripping him of that identity all over again, and he cannot handle that.
And finally, physical touch - physical touch is one of the things that keeps him chained to Hickey (quite literally by the end). It's perhaps not nearly as much of a factor as the other two, or perhaps an enormous factor, but definitely there. Throughout the earlier episodes we see that Tozer is a pretty tactile guy. Playfully wrestling at the birthday party. Caring for Heather, squeezing his hand to try and get signs of life. This is a man who isn't afraid to touch other men. When Hickey holds his face in That scene, he doesn't appear surprised - a little spooked by the way he leans in suddenly, and Hickey's intensity, but not shocked. Not like it's the first time Hickey has ever touched him. I generally imagine there's a lot of physical intimacy Hickey offers him during the scenes we don't see, because Hickey IS good at recognising things in people most of the time, and I can see him honing in on that need for touch immediately.
I imagine him touching him a lot, sleeping unusually close to him, soothing him, everything to make Tozer feel safe and secure and remind him WHO is meeting those specific needs. He's providing certainty, command, and comfort, three things Tozer desperately needs.
If there WAS any sexual intimacy between the two, I believe it would build off this even further - confuse Tozer about his feelings, make him feel uniquely bonded to Hickey in a way he can't easily undo. Especially as a Royal Marine, essentially a symbol of the warlike 'noble' Empire, with all the corresponding Victorian hangups and ideals, which would no doubt feel incredibly threatened by any attraction to Hickey. Hickey, who, as we know, WANTS to erase this sense of Empire as identity, not because he understands the evils of Empire but because he wants to replace it with his own where he is at the top.
Hickey both offers Tozer his identity back while at the same time trying to reshape it to fit his own empire. And for Tozer that's confusing and conflicting - but it's better than what he had before. Because Tozer, too, cannot see the world through any lens but that of Empire and hierarchy and command - that's the fatal flaw of all these men.
By the end, it seems he's starting to see what a horrible mistake he made - but by then it's far, far too late.
And a dog NEEDS a master.
Tldr; I think Tozer's bond with Hickey stems from both very human needs such as touch and closeness and certainty, but also from a very thematic need to have a place and easily understood identity within the structure of Empire. And there's almost no real way for those two different sorts of needs to coexist without disaster.
(One day I'll go into how I think Hickey gets more from this relationship than a mere henchman, but this isn't the post for it! This is about Solomon)

"you're fucking eren?" x ti penso! eren<3 this is a little continuation of this
-
âHow are we doing today, folks?â A perky waitress approaches your table, smiling down at all of you. You pity her, really; no one at your table is exactly in the mood to return her level of enthusiasm.
Logically, you know how youâve ended up sandwiched between Eren and Armin, trying to ignore the daggers Mikasaâs shooting at you across the table, but in the haze of your hangover and the intoxicating presence of Eren beside you, you canât imagine what you did to deserve this fate. A memory flashes behind your eyes of Eren pinning you to the wall, licking up your neck. Oh yeah, that.
You and Eren had eventually managed to untangle yourselves from the bed when Connie and Armin had joined the raucous banging on the door, and youâd each miraculously found an old tshirt and a pair of Jeanâs sweatpants to wear. Your face had burned when you met Mikasaâs withering glare, Jeanâs look of horror when he caught sight of his sheets rumpled on the floor. Armin had corralled everyone into brunch of all things, deciding on behalf of the group that the rarity of seeing each other outweighed the painful awkwardness of the situation. Connie had whined and stomped his feet, demanding Ubereats on account of his hangover, but after some convincing, youâd all been dragged along to the restaurant a block from Jeanâs apartment. Your foot, still wearing your heels from the night before that do not compliment the pair of Jeanâs pajamas youâre wearing, jiggles incessantly under the table.
âUm, hi. Weâre good, thanks,â Armin breaks the silence to answer the poor girl, looking down at his menu with pink cheeks.
âWe need mimosas,â Connie says affirmatively, even though alcohol is likely the last thing that will aid this situation, âtwo carafes, and keep âem coming.â
âConnie,â Mikasa says sharply, âdo you really think thatâs a good idea?â
âHair of the dog,â Eren suggests, nodding at the waitress. âMake it three.â
âShut up,â Mikasa snaps at him. Eren balks, you donât dare to look at him even as you snicker. âI told you twoââ
âI am an adult, Mika,â for the first time all morning, you snap and finally interrupt her scolding. âDo we really need to do this over brunch?â
âDid you really need to do that in my bed?â Jean makes a disgusted face. Eren rolls his eyes, stretching his arms only to land one around your shoulders; god, you wish he wouldnât do that, add fuel to the fire.
âSheets can be washed.â
âIâm burning them,â Jean deadpans, eyes narrowing at Erenâs arm around you. You want to die. You want to shrink into a little hole in the ground and die.
âI got laid too, if anyone cares,â Connie mutters. Armin cocks an eyebrow.
âBefore or after you puked in the kitchen sink?â
âBefore,â Connie answers, unphased, âin that hall bathroomââ
âCan my apartment please stop being the sex apartment?â Jean groans, letting his head fall into his hands.
âOh, like you two werenât fucking each other silly back at our place,â you counter, pointing an accusing finger between Jean and Mikasa. Jeanâs face turns bright red, and Erenâs eyes fix on Jean, narrowing into something lethal. Mikasa opens her mouth to snap back, but the waitress has returned, three mimosa carafes and six glasses on her tray. On second thought, maybe you do need a morning pick-me-up.Â
All of you, despite your protests, fill your glasses to the brim. Eren pours yours for you, smiling down at you adoringly as if you were on a lovely date, not a one-night-stand-turned-hellish-morning.
âWant more?â He asks, holding the carafe towards your near-full glass. You shake your head, mouth pressed into a flat line, not missing Jeanâs gagging across the table.
âWhipped already, Jaeger?â Connie teases.
âAfter last night? Absolutely,â Eren says with a shit-eating grin plastered on his face, wrapping his arm tighter and snuggling you into his side. Your face burns even hotter, and you smack his chest.
âShut up, Eren!â You and Mikasa speak at the same time. Mikasa grants you a small smile at your synchronicity; it isnât much, but itâs a start, and you venture into whatâs hopefully a safe realm of conversation that will keep Eren preoccupied.
âSo Mika, are you excited for Eren to move to the city?â
Your attempt at peace doesnât go the way youâd hoped; Mikasaâs brows knit into a frown, and she turns to Eren, whoâs blushing madly. âWhat?â
âWhen are you moving to the city?â Armin asks, nose scrunched in confusion. Youâre just as confused as they are, turning to face Eren.
âBut you said this morningââ
âI am in a few weeks,â Eren says, sounding very much like heâs just spitballing, âI just need to talk to Zekeââ
âWhat about my music?â Connie looks aghast, hands flying out to the side.
âDude, I can still rep you from the city, and Zeke might not even want to move. Heâs all wrapped up with Pieck anyway.â
âWhen were you planning on telling me you were moving?â Mikasa narrows her eyes, glaring at Eren accusingly. You realize youâve put your foot in your mouth, exposed what may have been no more than a passing thought in Erenâs head. You havenât even known him for twenty-four hours, but you can read Eren well enough to tell that heâs impulsive, maybe to a fault.
âDid you need to get laid so bad that you got one whiff of pussy and decided to pack up and move?â Jean looks amused, and you want to slap him. Thankfully, Mikasas does it for you, thumping him between the eyebrows. âOw!â
âDonât be crude.â
âMaybe.â Eren, for his part, simply smirks, tightens his grip on you. Your heart flutters despite your embarrassment; even if he had lied to get you back into bed for an attempted round two, it was a flattering thought. âIt would be good for the business, though.â
âCome to think of it,â Armin rubs his chin, âit really would. Thereâs a lot more musicians that need representation in the city than back home.â
âYou rep musicians?â You raise your eyebrows, surprised. You had assumed the family business was something boring, and you realize you never thought to ask. Eren shrugs.
âSort of. Weâre still getting it off the ground.â
âHe reps me!â Connie waves excitedly at you.
âImpressive,â you give him a little once-over, seeing him in an entirely different light. In the sober eyes of the morning, heâs still beautiful, hair rumpled and messy and eyes half-lidded with exhaustion, but beautiful. You force your gaze away from him only to be met with Mikasaâs eyes, flitting between both of you, a curious look on her face. âWhat?â
âNothing,â she hums, sipping her mimosa but not dropping the knowing smile spreading across her face.

Eternity or stasis Part 1 of 2
Spicy scene so watch out. Also some Archon/Arlecchino slander purely because I don't like the fact that the house of the hearth is basically just training child soldiers. No hate if you like her but she is definitely not a good or even morally grey person.I am so sorry about human dvalin guys. I tried not to stroke my own ego when describing him but all the concept art for human Dvalin makes him out to be a very very VERY pretty man. And I like the Hoyoverse dragons so there is a bit of that. Also sorry this took so long to come out.
"Dvalin please!" You whine
"Mine. You're mine." He growls.
"Ah!" you squeak as he squeezes your hips.
"Tight... so tight... Too Tight! Dvalin I can't breath!" 'Yeah that's me. You're probably wondering how I got here.'
"Dvalin it's been 2 weeks since Xiao brought me back. Andruis has come to visit twice, and both times you've refused to see him. You hardly let the abyss mages and slimes bring me food. "I'm begging you, please let me go. I won't run away again just please." You pleaded desperately trying to wriggle out from between his front claws. He was splayed out like a dog lying out in the sun arms crossed in front of him to trap you in.
"Not a chance. The last two times I let you out of my sight you got kidnapped. First by those knights, then you were taken away and the abyss order has told me you were in the land of Geo. That filthy mud-ridden dragon. What does he have that I don't? What can he give you that I can't?"
"Well, no offence but physical intimacy and companionship."
"Oh really?" He growled in a sarcastic tone (and also literally growled, he is a dragon after all). A bright light blue light shined out from Dvalin's chest as he shrunk.
"Dvalin? What...?"
Standing before you was a beautiful man with sharp features. He had a long pointed nose, and sharp eyes. His face wasn't too particularly round (he had a few freckles on his face) and his chin looked like it could cut diamonds. He had long baby blue hair that fell past his shoulder blades - his bangs curled around his head to the back of his head - and glowing aqua colored eyes that pierced your soul. His horns curved up, back and towards each other; the tips tinted in dark blue. His pointed ears peeked out meekly from the sides of his head. He was tall (maybe 7 feet), and his entire body - from hid shoulders down to his waist - was broad. His chest and abs were sculped and defined. His limbs held muscles toned to perfection, yet strangely enough faded from the pale of his torso and face to a lighter blue and finally to a deep blue at his finger tips and his long nails. Finally just behind him swayed a furry blue and white tail.Â
"WHY ARE YOU NAKED?!"
"Why wouldn't I be? I don't wear clothes in my true form. I feel strange like this." He looked at his hand, perplexed by the addition of a fifth finger.
"You- you- two- um-" You backed up as he stalked over to you. "Wait!" Your face heated.Â
"Come here darling. You said you wanted to be physical." He pulled you toward him and wrapped his tail around you.
"HELP LITTLE SLIMES!! I fell into a trap! He's got me! And he won't let me go!" You scream as a dendro smile and hydro smile bounce toward you.
"Mine."
"Yes I know but, EH!" You try to struggle.Â
"Mine!"
"Eh!"
"Mine!!"
"EH!"
"MINE!"
"EH!!"
"MINE!!"
"Dvalin! Please. This is embarrassing. And I can feel your 'friends' poking my ass."
"They just want to say hi, and they wouldn't be so eager if you didn't squirm so much on my lap." He purrs in your ear.
"We need to get you some clothes." You throw yourself from his grasp with all your might. "Maybe some apple bottom jeans."
"Jeans?" He looks confused.Â
"And boots with the fur."
"With fur?"
"Really just anything to keep you 'packages' to yourself."
"Oh? So you don't want 'Physical Intimacy'?" He teases.Â
"Um I..." 'Screw it. Baizhu and I are just friends with benefits.' You pull Dvalin closer and kiss him. His lips mold into yours and you poke your tongue into his mouth. He lay you down as his tongue overtook your mouth.
"I... cannot feel my legs."
"Stay right there, I'm going to get some food." He kisses your head.
"Wait!" You grab one of his horns and gently rub your thumb over it.
He lets out a breathy moan and grabs you wrist. "Keep that up and this little snack I'm getting you will be an intermission instead of aftercare."
"Did you want this?"
"It was nice, especially the feeling of your nails scratching along my back. I'll be honest, I'm willing to do anything to keep you here."
"Okay, thanks for getting me some food."
"Of course darling." He kisses your lips, and slithers out of the tower.Â
10 minutes later you're feeling a bit better, that was until a certain high pitched Bard showed up.
"Dvalin! Please answer me. I know that you're up here! I'm sorry about what happened about a month ago." Venti pleads voice cracking like he's holding back tears.Â
"Hi Venti..." You say apathetic.
"What are you doing here? How did you get back here?"
"Wouldn't you like to know." You snark.Â
"Don't get smart with me! You turned Dvalin against me."
"I thought you'd want him to be free, and happy."
"I do. But I also want him to be safe. You are nothing but trouble, and I don't want him around you. End of story"Â
"Why don't you give me one more- ow! Fudge nuggets! Anyway Venti," You limp your way over to him. "That's not really for you to decide, now is it?" You taunt.
"What gives you the right to talk to me like that?"
"What gives you the right to demand the respect of your people. You're a drunkard, Zhongli is a deadbeat, and Ei is a dictator. Not only that but the Tsaritsa endorses the exploitation of children, allowing Arlecchino - one of her Harbingers - to groom them into the perfect soldiers. They're exploiting orphans - who only have them to trust in - for their army. What good do you Archons do for your citizens?"
"Shut up!" He pushes you to the ground. Your delusion starts to glow seafoam green.
"You don't protect them. So get off your high horse you fake wannabe dei-"
"SHUT UP!!" He screams as the structure around you shakes and the air in the environment grows warmer.Â
"Heh, I knew you were full of hot air."
"SHUT! UP!" He screams in your face as his hands come to wring your neck.
"GET OFF THEM!!"
"Dvalin?/!" Venti and you shout in unison. Him in horror and you in joy. Dvalin drops the food and charges at venti.Â
"What have they done to you?" Venti whispers.Â
"I chose to become this Venti."
"They've clipped your wings."
"You mean these?" Wings spring from his back.
"You know what I mean! Your powers are drained in this form! Why would you do this?"
"I need them that's why."
"No! I'm putting my foot down. I hate to do this but this obsession you have with them isn't healthy!" Dvalin charges at him and he dodges. Venti summons his bow (the skyward harp) and shot at you. You try to block but nothing happens. The arrow doesn't pierce you but it does knock you out and blow you far off.
When you wake up you're somewhere you haven't been before. Inazuma. Â
"Okay. This isn't good. Why couldn't I block the arrow? Was it because it was Venti's?" You look down to your delusion and see it was seafoam green instead of a gold color. "Does this mean I've resonated with Anemo? I shook hands with Zhongli and resonated with Geo, Venti pushed me so..." You hold your hand out and several small wind currents form around you. You bring your other hand up and they all form into a big gust of wind shaped in a pair of wings. "Interesting. Okay... where exactly am I? This looks a bit like Ritou. Maybe I could get across to the beach."
"Outlander! Freeze!"
"Shit!" You start to jump across to the beach on your wind currents. You run through the hills of Inazuma.
"Okay I think I'm safe now. Where on earth did I go?" You run to the north end of Narukami Island.
"Hello?! Hello?" You call out as you look for anyone who could help you.Â
"Hm? Hey cutie!" Itto shouts at you.Â
"Aw, aren't you sweet."
"Heh. Nah, you're just adorable. Hey! You wanna beetle battle with me."
"I don't know how. Maybe a big, strong man could teach me." You flirt.
"Course I could." He wraps his arm around your shoulder. Maybe you should feel a bit bad about flirting and sleeping around but you were promised debauchery. You wrap your arm around him as he leads you to where his gang was, though you didn't get too far with Kujou Sara and her forces on you tail.
"There you are! Surrender your Vision and the blondie." She demands.
"Oh yeah, the sus girl made me twinsies with the twins."
"The Raiden Shogun has ordered any interlopers to be deported from Inazuma immediately, and if they have a vision we are to seize it form them. This... person?" She looks to you for confirmation, to which you nod. "Is under arrest for fleeing Ritou."
"So typical of a cop to be a rude bitch. Actually that's not really fair. Chevreuse, Wriothesley and Cyno are technically cops and they'll probably be considerate. Come to think of it The knights of Favonius are cops and Jean was extremely considerate. It's just the archon simps- well, no Xiao was pretty nice."
"Less talking more fighting!" Itto shouts in a frenzy. He and Shinobu have to fend of the Tenryou Commission.Â
"Sorry!" You lift your hand and the gusts of wind lift the enemies off the ground.
"Now we're talking! Looks like the playing field just got a bit more even." Itto taunt.
"On my command!" Sara yell as she readies her bow. You quickly start to twist and turn your delusion to try and get in back to Geo.
"Don't do this to me. I need Geo right now." You whisper and it started to glow gold again. You quickly jump in front of Itto to block Sara's shot. You then start to pelt her with a slew of jagged spall toward the cops.
"Retreat!" Sara's companions cry.
"Cowards! get back here!" She furiously runs after them.
"Oh my gosh! That was awesome dude! Oh hey, what should I call you?" Itto cheers.
"Babygirl." you respond without missing a beat. "It's this affectionate nickname where I come from. If not that you can call me Gen with a G. Last name Z.
"It's nice to meet you Z." Shinobu greets from beside Itto.Â
"Please, call me Gen. We're friend now... or something more." You mumble that last part.
"Yeah yeah yeah, formalities and such. How'd you do that? You went from Anemo to Geo in a split second!" Itto praises. "It was awesome. Does that me you have like, Anemo and Geo inside you."
"Well I don't know about Geo but Anemo and Dendro have definately both been inside me."
"Huh?"
"Uh, not the point. We should get going before the cops show up again."
"Oh right. Well Gen in thanks for you saving us I'll treat you to the Biggest bowl of Ramen I can afford."
"I don't think I'll be able to finish all by myself, but we could split it." 'Please if there is any good left in this universe or the one I come from let Itto and I do the lady and the tramp thing! Please please please-'
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" Itto apologizes.
'I love you universe!'
"Looks like Heizou was right. Caught you right where he said you would be."
"I'll handle this Itto. You just get everyone out of here." You order.
"No way! I'm not leaving you behind Gen!" He argues.
"Loyal to a tee, I see why Ayato likes you." You smile. Tenryou soldiers flinging themselves at you.
"Itto we have to go." Shinobu pleads.
"But-"
"Trust me! Go."
"I'm coming back for you!"
"Thank you." You smile. The Arataki Gang ran as the cops jump and overpower you.Â
Sara bounds your wrists and ankles, and throws you over her shoulder. "Dang bound again. If I had a nickel for everytime I've been bound and it wasn't sexy, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. Weirder still that the only two times I've been bound have both been very unsexy. 'This would be arousing if you hadn't been an asshole earlier.' You thought. 'Okay... I guess this is a little hot.'
"Hey do you want to hear something cool? According to the Babylonians, Asushunamir was this super rad person who wasn't man or woman and they were given the gift of prophecy and healing. Also the Norse had this other dude who's portrayed as really really hot and they were gender fluid but mostly went by he. The gender non conforming have a pretty sweet gig being hot and getting people out of trouble."
"Please stop talking. Besides it doesn't matter who or what you are. Man, woman, or something in between, all obstacles in the Shoguns path to eternity must face her wrath. No amount of strange tales will spare you."
"Bring it on that tyrant is going down!"
"Brave or foolish I do not know. May I ask you something?"
"Go ahead."
"I've been hearing rumors about you. They say you are not so much man or woman so... how do you work in bed if you don't mind me asking."Â
"Well~ you could find out for yourself~"
"I'll have to pass on your oh so generous offer." Sara retorts sarcastically.Â
"I'm a power-bottom if you must know! Nah that's a lie I'm submissive and breedable, even if I never get pregnant."
"Well... here we are. The Shogun is just inside. She will decide your fate." Sara unbinds you.Â
"Bye Sara. Raiden Shogun! You better get your Bitch ass out here!" You storm through the halls.
"Who dares to insult me?" The dumb little puppet shows it's face.
"I mean the real Shogun! Come on out Ei!" As you taunt her a purple rift rips through the air and Ei pulls you into the plain of euthymia.Â
"Why is a long haired hooligan in my presence. What's your name?"
"Gen. Now let's talk about something more previlent. You suck! I don't care if you have big boobies! You're a bad mom and a bad leader!"
"Excuse me?"
"You abandoned your son and say that you want to give him freedom. How is that freedom? You cast him out without anything to defend himself with! And on top of all of that he was basically a naive baby with no survival skills. How dense can you be? You are the cause of at least 25% of Teyvats major problems. Do you have any idea what He's doing out there right now?"
"Wow... you really want to die don't you?"
"Can you stop being so egotistical? There's more to this world than you ya know! I get you're sad because Makoto died, and you feel like you have no purpose. You don't feel worthy to be the Electro Archon, right? Well Miko doesn't think so. She and sara are keeping this entire nation afloat while you bitch and moan about having to do work."
"How do you know all of this?"
"Because I'm not from Teyvat."
"Obviously. You are the adored one. The one Celestia fears. That doesn't explain-"
"No!" You cut her off. "I'm literally not from this world. I've seen this twice before. I got in after beta and I have to look up past events off Youtube, because Hoyoverse is a bitch to the Genshin community. I get they want people to pay for gacha but just have them be a normal world quest or a side story or even a playable movie! Kingdom hearts did that with their mobile game! It was a bit confusing but that's kingdom hearts for you."
"...what?"
"Nothing. Point is you need to get off your ass and work. Your people are dying. They're slaughtering each other in droves. Eternity doesn't mean everything has to stay the same. Makoto wouldn't have wanted that Ei. Eternity can exist through Inazuma's preservation. Their culture and heritage and customs all play a part in Inazuma's identity. If those things can keep Inazuma thriving then Inazuma will be eternal."
"...you've seen this play out before. Is there ever a way for me to reach perfect Eternity."
"not a perfect stasis no. But from where I'm from you and Makoto's Legacy is secure. Inazuma is eternal to my people."Â
"How would I even go about trying to fix things?"
"...wait that worked?"
"What?"
"I never thought I'd get this far. (A/n: SpongeBob reference!) I was just trying to sow the seed so that the twins wouldn't have to go through so much bullshit to defeat you and make you see the error of your ways. I was trying to buy time more than anything."
"Okay... so what do we do now?"
"I have no clue..."
"Um when you said twins... you wouldn't happen to mean two blonds in strange clothes similar to yours, did you?"Â
"Is the puppet fighting them? Did your puppet take Thoma and they're trying to protect him?" You deadpan.
"Yes?"
"yep, that's them. Let 'em in they might be able to help."Â
She does as you instruct and the twins come barreling in. "What the Fu-"

50. "I need you to forgive me."
You know why...
But please!!!
I know this took forever so I hope you will forgive me! (Also when I originally received this ask I had just posted part one and mentioned in the tags that prompt 50 could be a good 'fix-it' prompt for a follow up, and well, here we are! Also when I received it, I laughed for a solid minute, like evil laughed so thank you @happymediummm )
Part Three of Prompt 53. 'I'm flirting with you!'
Part One, Part Two
It's on Friday that the cavalry arrives.
Dustin bangs on Eddie's bedroom door, with a mace by the sounds of it.
He's about to snark that Dustin doesn't play a class that uses martial weapons when he hears the kid yell--
"Eddie! You have five seconds before I come in there and get you myself, I got your uncle's permission and everything!"
Eddie groans and detaches himself from the bed flipping the pillow he had been wallowing in away from himself.
He stomps towards the door and flings it open, leveling an unimpressed glare at Dustin who barrels past him into the bedroom.
Dustin crosses to the desk, his head on a swivel as he looks around the small space, Eddie scoffs as he steps towards Dustin, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"What the hell are you doing Henderson?" Eddie spits out as Dustin shrugs his hand off, he seems to spy what he's looking for as he crows a single, 'Aha,' and makes his way to the dresser.
"Seriously, Dustin, what are you doing here?"
"Saving you from yourself dude," Dustin scoffs as he takes a tape out of his pants pocket, the familiar writing on the label makes Eddie's stomach fall into his feet.
It's Steve's tape.
"No, nope, absolutely not," Eddie snaps.Â
He reaches for the cassette in Dustin's hand, only for the little shit to spin away from him and toss the tape from his right to his left hand in a move that seems so much like the teen's babysitter that Eddie wants to scream.
Dustin manages to pop the tape into the player and hit play before Eddie can get close again.
A few notes of a bass guitar reach Eddie's ear and his hands drop from Dustin's shoulders as he perks upâŠhe knows this song.
"What the fuck Henderson?" He breathes out with wide eyes that flick back and forth between him and the cassette player.
'Oh yeah!
Some people say my love cannot be true
Please believe me, my love, and i'll show you
I will give you those things you thought unreal
The sun, the moon, the stars all bear my seal--'
"You are being an idiot," Dustin says matter of factly, crossing his arms in front of his chest as he frowns at Eddie, "I don't exactly know what you said, but I think I got the gist out of Steve earlier today when Robin wasn't acting like a guard dog".Â
His dark blue eyes scan Eddie as he shakes his head, "you thought it was a joke, do you know Steve?"
Eddie rolls his eyes before crossing to the cassette player and slapping the stop button. All at once the sounds of Black Sabbath halt, leaving the room in tense silence.Â
"Look," Eddie snarls, "I've known people like Steve over the years, it's all the same bullshit--"
"Stop it!" Dustin snaps, he steps closer to Eddie and jabs a finger into his chest, "you don't know what the hell you're talking about!"
Dustin's cheeks are flushed with anger as he shakes his head again, "he's nothing like that Eddie, you're being an asshole!"
"What is all the yellin' about?" Wayne's voice trickles through the door, a hint of concern running through it as he leans against the frame, eyeing both Eddie and Dustin warily.Â
"When I gave you permission to barge in here I don't remember agreeing to participate in a screamin' match son,â Wayne says, biting back a smile at the indignant expression on Dustin's face.
"Sorry Mr. Munson, but Eddie's being an idiot!" Dustin crosses his arms once more as he looks from Eddie to Wayne challengingly.
"That so?" Wayne laughs, "care to argue the charge," he directs at Eddie who rolls his eyes.
"It's nothing Wayne, Dustin is leaving now--"Â
"Steve made that tape for you," Dustin yells, pointing at the cassette player, "and you threw it in his face!"Â
"That true Ed?"
"It was a stupid joke," Eddie growls as Dustin throws his hands up in the air, "it doesn't mean anything".Â
Wayne looks at Eddie for a long moment, his face unreadable.
"Steve Harrington?" He asks softly.Â
Dustin nods nervously at Wayne before shooting another glare at Eddie.
"The one that came by your hospital room every day till you woke up Ed? The one they couldn't get to leave on the day you opened your eyes, that Steve Harrington?"Â
"So?" Eddie huffs, wrapping his own arms around his chest tightly, incredibly aware of the two pairs of eyes trained on him.
"Wayne, you told me I had to be careful of who I opened myself up to, I'm just following your advice!"Â
Wayne sighs, lifting his hand to pinch into his eyes.
"You'd be lucky to have a friend like Steve," Dustin grumbles as he moves to the bed to sit down. He pulls up his legs up to his chest and glares at the back of Eddie's head.
"Kid, I think Ed and I need to have a conversation, alone," Wayne says quietly to Dustin.
Eddie watches in fascination as Dustin opens his mouth to argue, but after whatever silent conversation takes place between the teen and his uncle, Dustin merely huffs and slips off the bed.Â
"Listen to the damn tape and get your head out of your ass," Dustin bites out as he passes Eddie, he levels one last impressive glare at the metal-head before leaving the room.
Wayne sighs as he makes his way over to the bed to sit, taking over Dustin's vacated spot.
"So, Harrington, huh?"
Eddie scowls and says nothing, leaning against the dresser. He winces as the sudden weight of his shoulder jostles everything, causing his loose D&D dice to fall off the edge and plink and plunk across the floor of his room.
The D4 will be a bitch to accidentally find with his feet later on, but Eddie ignores the mess and continues brooding against the dresser.
Wayne scratches his face, tapping an unsteady rhythm against his jean clad knee with his other hand, "okay," Wayne says gruffly from the bed as he shifts to stand.Â
"I don't know what ya did or said, but it was enough to make that kid beg his way in here," Wayne huffs, hooking a thumb over his shoulder at the open door.Â
Eddie shrugs, refusing to lift his gaze from the floor. He hears Wayne sigh and the shift of fabric as he steps closer.Â
"You were so small," Wayne mutters suddenly.Â
Eddie looks up in confusion, but Wayne isn't looking at him, his eyes are trained just over Eddie's shoulder.
"When you came home that day, all black and blue," he shrugs and scratches his face again, "I didn't know how to help ya, and you wouldn't explain".Â
Eddie swallows roughly, horrified at the sudden brightness of his uncle's eyes. A man he has only seen cry twice since he's known him, the first time was at Eddie's mothers funeral, the other was the day Eddie woke up at the hospital all those months ago.Â
"I don't think I could stand it if anything happened to you Ed," Wayne breathes out wetly now as he roughly scrubs at his face, "and you being in the hospital, you were suddenly that small kid again, standing on my porch all black and blue".Â
Eddie feels his own eyes sting as his uncle turns slightly to wipe his face again, "What are you saying?"
"You weren't alone this time, Ed," Wayne says softly as he steps towards his nephew and grasps him gently by the shoulders, "you have so many more people looking out for you, hell --one of em' carried you home".Â
"I think a person like that deserves at least a chance to know you, and to see what I see".
It's Eddie's turn to swipe at his misty eyes, "What's that?" He asks with an unconvincing cough to hide the wobble in his voice.
Wayne smiles, giving Eddie's shoulders a soft squeeze, "a damn good kid with a big heart, who I hope knows how to apologize when it's needed".
"But what if you're wrong?"
"Then I'm wrong, and we'll get through it," Wayne tugs Eddie towards him without warning into a tight hug and reaches behind Eddie to press play on the cassette player; the sound of guitar and drums begin again as Ozzy's voice fills the room.Â
'Your love for me has just got to be real
Before you know the way I'm going to feel--'
"But for the record kid, I don't think I am".
***
Eddie listens to the tape.Â
He listens to it again and again, both sides. Steve filled both sides with music for himâŠ
He lays on his bed while it plays, staring a hole into the ceiling as the last few piano notes ring out before the tape stops, filling the room with silence.
The songs don't all go with one another and out of a dozen there's about eight he knows. The other four seem to be a mixture of songs he's heard Steve play in the beemer with the kids, or while dancing in his kitchen with Robin.
it's not an expert mix by any means, but Steve did manage to collect a decent amount of metal songs just for Eddie and even a one he's never heard before --since when did Scorpions write love songs?Â
After hours alone in his room, sitting on his bed, listening to Steve's tape over and over again, there is one thing he can't deny.
Steve Harrington has feelings for himâŠhad feelings for him, and Eddie ruined it.Â
He wants to take the version of himself that pushed Steve away and shake him.Â
Eddie winces as he pictures the devastated expression on Steve's face when he left. His normally bright hazel eyes and wide goofy grin were left pinched with hurt.
Eddie had done that, taken six months of tentative friendship, of lingering glances and soft teasing smiles -how had he missed those, and tossed this delicate thing away from himself like it was nothing.Â
He looks over at the glowing green hands of the clock by his bed. Itâs nearly midnight; Dustin left a few hours ago now and Wayne is now at work.Â
Eddie breathes out a sigh through his nose as a sudden wave of determination flows through him.
He looks towards the far wall by the door, his Sweetheart hanging up on her hooks.Â
Dustin had apparently insisted on grabbing it, doubling back on a severely sprained ankle while Nancy tore a verbal strip off his back for wasting time as an unconscious Eddie slowly continued to bleed out in Steve's arms.
Eddie shivers, it had been so strange to consider everything that happened, or what he was told happened during the gap in his memory.Â
Steve had been the one to carry him out while Robin and Nancy helped compress the worst of his wounds with torn fabric and left over gauze from the patch job they had done for Steve.
He vaguely remembers a string of words, a whispered sentence that made no sense as Eddie drifted in and out of consciousness but nowâŠ
'You can't do this, come on Munson, open those stupid beautiful eyes of yours, who's going to yell at us about the corruption of youth in America huh? We need you man, I-IâŠ.'
Eddie had really been so fucking clueless.Â
He gets up from the bed and crosses to the wall, taking the guitar off the hooks.Â
At least now, he has a plan.
***
It was a shit plan.
Cutting down the road the kids had taken to calling Mirkwood and through the woods by Loch Nora seemed pretty sound in theory, giving Eddie the element of surprise and hiding him from any watchful neighborhood eyes.Â
What he had not taken into account, however, was the pitch darkness, the unfamiliar maze of trees he now found himself in, and how fucking heavy his portable amp was going to be.
Perfect.
Eddie stumbles over a fallen log, nearly careening into the mulch and rotting leaves of the forest floor. The half moon above him, not nearly enough to light his path through the thicket.
At least this version of the woods feels alive, Eddie thinks to himself; the smell of damp dirt and the sound of frogs and crickets singing in the darkness is infinitely more appealing than the strange forest they had found themselves in a mere six months prior. And with the gates finally sealed, the most dangerous thing he could come across would probably be a rattler or a coyote.Â
Eddie peers around at the thought, he's not quite sure he's entirely comfortable even running into those animals anytime soonâŠespecially the snake.
Finally, after another ten minutes of walking, warm yellow light begins to sift through the trees ahead of him as he brushes away low branches from his field of vision.Â
Eddie hikes up the guitar strap higher up his shoulder and steps fully into the light that illuminates the Harrington backyard lawn and pool.
Eddie scans the back of the house, flipping the mental map of the Harrington home around to visualize which window was most likely to be for Steve's bedroom.
He steps further into the yard, setting down the heavy amp onto the concrete patio before leaning down to grab a handful of wood chips from the shrubs next to the house.
Here goes nothing.
Eddie tosses one of the pieces of wood at the window above him.Â
It barely connects with the windowsill before dropping back down onto the patio with a muted clack.Â
Oh this is humiliating.
He tries again and again to hit Steve's window with the wood chips in his hand, each one completely misses the target. One bounces into the eavestrough, another careens off the siding and back into the pool behind Eddie.Â
"Fuck this," Eddie growls, throwing the rest of the wood chips back into the shrubs as he snatches the cord for his amp and shoves the plug into the nearest outdoor outlet.Â
He turns the volume down slightly, the plan won't work if the cops get called on him immediately.Â
Eddie takes the guitar off his back and plucks a few notes, adjusting one of the tuning keys until the sound is just right.
"Here goes nothing, come on Stevie," Eddie whispers as he begins to play.Â
"I hear the ticking' of the clock, I'm lying here the room's pitch dark," he sings softly, strumming out the cords, it's slightly harsher than the piano but sue him, Eddie only managed to play it once through by ear at home before he left the house.
This was Steve's last track on the tape, and Eddie's sure he put it there for a reason.
He listened to the song again and again, slowly picking up the cords as he did so.Â
He could do this, he picked up Master of Puppets in just a few weeks, Eddie could handle Heart.
Eddie keeps going, his voice carries over the yard, growing in volume; so much so that he misses the patio door slowly slide open and the sound of a pair of feet padding onto the patio.Â
"What are you doing here?" Steve's voice calls out to Eddie from the door, he jumps, nearly dropping the guitar. His hand jolts on the strings as Eddie attempts to keep his hold on the instrument, letting the guitar scream for him.
Steve stares at him as Eddie unplugs the amp cord and swings the guitar around his back once more with shaking hands, his thoughts spinning, trying to figure out how to start.
"I listened to the tape," Eddie says softly, Steve cocks his head slightly to better hear him, his face shuttering as the words register. Â
Eddie's heart races as he watches Steve begin to turn towards the patio door once more, he needs to act fast.
"And I need you to forgive me," he blurts out, louder than he intends, but Steve does pause with his hands on the door handle.
"Why's that?" He says sharply, dropping his hand away from the door, turning to fully face Eddie once more.
Eddie chews his lip nervously as Steve's gaze hardens the longer they stand in silence, his arms come up to wrap around his chest tightly.
"I thought you were playing a prank," Eddie sighs, saying it aloud makes him want to deflate, to walk right into the pool and sink to the bottom.Â
If the look Steve gives him is any indication, Steve would be more than happy to watch him go.
"That's a lot of effort to put into a fucking prank Munson," Steve bites out, there is no heat to the words though. He just sounds tired, resigned.
Shit.
"It wouldn't be the first time," Eddie mumbles, he reaches up to scrub his hand over his face, missing the way Steve's face softens ever so slightly and his arms drop from the way they seem to be holding him together.Â
"But I'm not going to make excuses," Eddie takes a step closer to Steve, his heart threatening to break through his ribcage the closer he gets, "I'm sorry for how I reacted and for thinking you could do something like that".
"I know you aren't like that, you're honest, and kind," Eddie reaches out and takes the tape from his back pocket and gestures towards Steve with it, "and so fucking thoughtful it makes me ache to think I ruined everything".Â
He puts the tape back in his pocket, Steveâs eyes watch him curiously now as he does, it fills him with wary hope, enough to keep talking.Â
"So, I need you to forgive me Steve, because I hope you'll let me make it up to you sweetheart".
Steve's face tips down suddenly towards his socked feet and the cold concrete patio, making it impossible for Eddie to make out his expression. He holds his breath as the silence stretches between them.
"Robin was right, you can be such an asshole," Steve says quietly, Eddie's chest tightens painfully at the words.
Eddie nods once, doing everything in his power to keep his face neutral but the downward curl of his lip is unstoppable as he reaches down to pick up the amp.
"But," Steve says, taking a step away from the door behind him, "as someone who was an asshole for a long time," Steve says quietly, pressing the palm of his hand into his chest, "I think it would be pretty hypocritical to not let you make it up to me".
He's grinning now. Itâs small, barely stretching across Steve's freckled face, but it's warm and just for Eddie.Â
"What did you have in mind, Sweetheart?"Â
Steve is quiet for a moment, his eyes dart over Eddie's face before he finally whispers, "can you finish the song Eds?"Â
"I think that can be arranged, " Eddie hums with a bright grin of his own.Â
He swings the guitar off his back again, quickly plugging it into the amp.Â
Eddie looks up to find Steve smiling softly at him as he takes a seat on one of the pool loungers. He pulls his legs up to rest his arms on his knees, basking in his own private concert.Â
As the first pink and orange rays of sunrise begin to bloom on the horizon behind him, slowly painting Steve's face gold, Eddie can't help the relief that flows through him.Â
He looks down at the shy grin Steve gives him, his hazel eyes bright in the new day's light, and thinks, 'holy shit, I almost missed this'.
"You don't know how long I have wanted, to touch your lips and hold you tight," he picks up where he left off, his voice mixing with the slow rhythm of the guitar, âyou don't know how long I have waited, and I was going to tell you tonight--â
Eddie watches, surprised as Steve swiftly gets up from the lounger and walks towards him, his expression determined.
"I think that's my line," Steve whispers as he leans in to cup Eddie's face in his hands and kisses him.
Eddie short-circuits.
The kiss is chaste, short, not much more than the brief press of warm chapped lips against Eddie's own, but the way Steve lets his hands move from Eddie's face to his hair and neck, holding him in place. The way Steve steps into Eddie's space so all he can taste, smell, and feel is Steve.
Itâs exhilarating. Â
Steve pulls back slightly before placing a second kiss on Eddie's lips, his eyes half lidded and a deep red flush staines his cheeks and ears a bright red. Steve looks much more debauched than necessary and Eddie suddenly wishes they weren't outside, that he could take Steve into the house and show him exactly how sorry he is.Â
"Iâm sorry, I couldnât wait, did you learn all of them or just that one?" Steve asks, his voice slightly breathy, he still hasn't let go of Eddie or stepped away.
"Just that one," Eddie repeats dumbly, feeling the urge to walk into the pool again as Steve laughs.
Oh Eddie loves that laugh.
âYou sure,â Steve asks again, his eyes crinkle at the sides as he smiles widely, âI thought maybe you could show me some of the other songs you know, inside?â
Either heâs dreaming or Steve is a mind reader because holy shit.
Eddie nods, unable to even form the words as Steve reaches for the amp and gently takes it out of his hands. Steve transfers the amp to his right hand and takes Eddieâs now empty hand with his left as he leads him towards the patio door.
Eddie watches, transfixed, as Steve looks back to shoot him another warm smile as they step over the threshold of the back door, and the words his uncle said earlier in the evening come back to him as Steve leads him towards the living room.Â
âI think a person like that deserves at least a chance to know you, and to see what I seeâ.
Eddie halts his movement, grabbing Steveâs hand firmly in his own, pulling him backwards until Steve turns, his eyebrows furrowed in wary confusion.
âThank you, for giving me another chance,â Eddie says softly. He lets the hand holding Steve's own move to trail up and down his arm, eliciting a shiver from Steve.Â
âI mean, you gave me one, you came back right?â Steve says softly.Â
Eddie's heart twists at the words, he feels his face fall slightly at the thought that Steve could ever think he was somehow at fault for this, âI was an idiot, that wasnât your fault at all sweetheartâ.
Steve looks at him again, his eyes scanning Eddieâs own for what feels like ages, his expression unreadable.Â
âCoâmere,â he murmurs eventually, letting go of Eddie to sit on the couch. He pats the cushion beside him, with the same soft smile from earlier, âplay some music for meâ.
Thereâs more to unpack here, more to talk about, other apologies to whisper in this beautiful man's ear.Â
But for now, he swings his guitar in front of him and slowly walks over to Steve.
Steve asked for music, and who is Eddie not to oblige?
