In the book Padawan Obi-Wan says:
”I would never want to be in a relationship with a leader. Too close to politician or royalty. I’m sure if I ever fell in love it would be with someone calm, peaceful. Easy to get along with.”
Yeah, sure Obi-Wan…

We as a fandom don’t talk enough about this line cause what do you mean they haven’t seen each other in over a decade and in their first interaction she calls him her shining Jedi knight? And then he tells her she’s beautiful?? I’m so not normal about them I love them

I had a sleepless night, so I decided to spend my time usefully ;)
Not AI. Just a three hours and 50+ layers in Photoshop. And official Lucasfilm Animation tribute poster as a base, of course.
Tumblr media
First, I wanted to move Qui-Gon too so that he would stand to the right of Satine (and look at his grown-up kids), but he stands on the edge and, if I had moved him, I need someone else would have to be put in his place or have to be corrected all the empty space and literally pick up the pieces Obi-Wan's tunic and legs like I did with Satine's dress and Cody's armor… I'm not ready for this yet :D I left in place Obi-Wan's hand, but because of the glare on Satine's dress, it's not very visible. There are still many small details that need to be corrected, but, in general, I'm done with it.
In addition to Latts Razzi, I also added Meena Tills to Satine's place, because Anna voiced her too.

The Lawless makes me nauseous for a lot of reasons but what breaks me the most is that Satine uses KORKIE’S COMM TO CALL OBI-WAN
So Obi-Wan gets a call from his (maybe)(hypothetical)(secret) son's number with a message from Satine pleading for help??
I need to be excused.

When it comes to Anakin and Padmé, Obi-Wan is deliberately looking in the complete opposite direction whistling to himself nonchalantly like he has no clue what's happening.
When it comes to Obi-Wan and Satine, Anakin is peeking around from behind a corner giggling like a youngling.

Satine is on the new Lucasfilm Animation tribute poster and that’s where my happiness begins and ends.
Most of the characters are pictured next to and with at least one person they care about or who is important to their story. Drives me nuts that Bo-Katan, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan are near each other but Satine is way on the other side of the poster, by her self, with that sad smile, and the only person related to her story who is nearby is Pre Vizsla I hate it here.
Obi-Wan has a hand on Cody’s shoulder. Padme has her hand on Anakin’s chest. And Satine (who is clearly a hugger) has her hand on her own chest.

I’m glad she was included, but man, that’s the bare fecking minimum when basically everyone is included (though of course Korkie would never be included) especially since she is in enough episodes of TCW to qualify as a supporting character.
And even when she’s acknowledged, it just feels like she’s minimized in a way that makes me feel like literally no one at Lucasfilm cares about her.
I know I’m salty, but she hasn’t been mentioned since TCW Season 8 (even though her sister and Jedi both had live-action shows), hasn’t been mentioned by name since Rebels S4 (thank you, Fenn Rau), and hasn’t been seen since TCW Season 5 (in 2013).

Thanks so much for this great response, OP! It is maddening to see the way fandom pits Anidala and Obitine against each other, when I see them more as two different takes on a) the ideal role of the Jedi as Knight Protectors, and b) the tragic outcomes that result from the Jedi Order's forbidden love stance.
I went into more detail on the topic here.
I LOVED your love/attachment meta and I wanted to ask what you thought about Obitine. I love Satine’s addition in The Clone Wars because her relationship with Obi Wan is objectively a healthy one and he’s not possessive of her but they CANNOT be together and it’s explicitly because Jedi cannot know love. Obi Wan’s self control and lack of possessiveness doesn’t matter, he cannot be with her and be a Jedi at the same time, and it feels almost like their relationship was included as a rebuttal to people who say romance/love was allowed for Jedi so long as it “wasn’t possessive attachment” (an argument I mainly see from the anti anidala/anti anakin crowd). Anyway, I just wondered if you felt Obitine was meant on commentary on the Jedi code in addition to being a contrast to Anidala?
Hi Bookishfeylin!
First off, I want to apologize for how long it's taken me to get around to answering your ask! I'm always very slow with these, so again, apologies, but my asks are always open and you guys are free to message me!
(For those of you who haven't read it, this is the meta they're referring to in their Ask.)
To Answer Your Question:
Short answer: Absolutely.
Long answer:
Somehow, there are quite a number of people who seem to think that Jedi were allowed to have romantic relationships. And while the Jedi did allow exceptions to this rule (Revan was allowed to marry Bastilla Shan, and Ki-Adi Mundi was allowed to have numerous wives because of the population of his species) there were very few exceptions.
In general, this was a hard, inflexible rule and Obi-Wan's relationship with Satine literally proves that.
Tumblr media
In The Clone Wars, we are shown that Obi-Wan Kenobi has feelings for Satine Kryze, Duchess of Mandalore. Despite this, he kept these feelings locked down and tucked away. He never allowed what he felt for Satine to cross over into the raw, visceral attachment that Anakin and Padmé had for each other, and yet he still was not allowed to be with her. Yet even that muted connection, that quiet fondness, would have required him to walk away from the Jedi Order.
"Had you said the word, I would have left the Jedi Order."
- Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Clone Wars: Season 2: Episode 13: Voyage of Temptation
Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the greatest Jedi who ever lived, who embodied the Jedi Order of his time. And being a Jedi was his purpose in life, it was his calling. Obi-Wan Kenobi would always be a Jedi. And yet he would have left that behind to be with Satine. Yet why would he leave it behind at all if he didn't have to? If the Jedi were allowed to have relationships, Obi-Wan shouldn't have needed to choose between the Jedi and Satine, as long as he could have remained true to Jedi philosophy and not grow too attached, despite his love for her.
Tumblr media
Now, let's address the rancor in the room: Anakin and Padmé. Anidala haters love to talk about how "unhealthy" the Anidala relationship is, and yes while their love was messy, intense, and deeply co-dependent, there's nothing inherently wrong with that because both of them took great joy in their relationship. Just because you would not enjoy being in a relationship like theirs does not make it unhealthy.
My parents have a relationship that would feel suffocating to me, and yet it is perfect for them. My relationship with my husband is very different, but it is perfect for me.
The thing is, all relationships are going to be as unique as the people involved in the relationship. As long as there is a balance, and both people are happy, there isn't anything wrong with it. And let's be real here, Anakin and Padmé were not normal people in the slightest, so they were not going to have anything resembling a normal relationship.
Did they have fights? Yes, every married couple has fights. Did they endure trials and tribulations in their relationship and as a couple? Of course they did, every married couple goes through that. And those who truly love each other, come out stronger on the other side, just like Anakin and Padmé did.
Were they always a perfect husband or wife to each other? No, they are people, and perfection is unreachable.
Their love was born from a deep connection, a shared understanding that transcended the boundaries of their respective roles. To say it was unhealthy is to ignore the genuine affection, the unwavering loyalty they had for each other. It's to judge them by the standards of "normal" people, which they most certainly were not.
Obi-Wan's relationship with Satine, in contrast, was a study in restraint. He held back, he kept his distance, and he ultimately chose the Order over her. It wasn’t that his feeling were less “real” than Anakin's, it was that he was able to follow the rules of the Jedi, which forbade him from having a romantic relationship.
That’s the commentary.
It shows that even a whisper of attachment was too much for the Jedi. It highlights the stark contrast between the Order's rigid dogma and the messy, unpredictable nature of human (or, well, sentient) emotions.
So, yes, Obi-Wan's relationship with Satine serves as a stark reminder of the Jedi's uncompromising stance on attachments, which I think makes a very good case for the fact that Jedi were not allowed to have romantic relationships.
That's my take.
