If you need any convincing that Noel and Liam Gallagher are incestuous freaks (affectionate), here's the basic information you need
First of all. The kisses
Loch Lomond kiss, where they just... made out on stage in front of cameras. Cool. There's a gif with every photo from every angle.
Another kiss, this time in Japan. Here's the actual video.
And here's the same video but together with nice quotes from their 2016 documentary:
Here's a 2005 award event where they kiss again and also look quite in love
And here's Liam straight up groping Noel during concerts:
General stage antics and more groping:
Just one more groping
Ok. Let's talk about the music, then
Oasis has a song that Noel wrote called "My Sister Lover". The title speaks for itself, really. It includes amazing lyrics such as "You're my lover, I'm your brother"
But there's more! Noel used the same chorus of this song (with different lyrics) for a song he released in his solo album, 20 years later. It's called "Lock All the Doors". The very first line says: "She wore a star-shaped tambourine, prettiest girl I’d ever seen". And guess... guess who famously played a star-shaped tambourine? Liam! And Noel was the one that gifted him the fucking tambourine!!
Liam wrote a song for Oasis called Guess God Thinks I'm Abel
I'll just link everything that's been said about this song, because it really is batshit insane that this song exists
(It's common in the north of England to refer to things and people as "our". When either Liam or Noel say "our kid", they're talking about each other)
Liam has the tendency of thinking every song Noel writes is about him, including the love songs
Here he says "I'm his muse", along with some other interesting quotes
Ok, now we're on to suspicious quotes!
They had sex last night, according to Liam
This one is my favorite:
Of course this one is just all the weird quotes jammed in one post, you can feel yourself going crazy as you read it
Noel assures us that Liam knows about his arse
Other people confirming that they act like a couple. And them being fucking weird about each other’s marriages.
This one has Noel saying Liam is deeply in love with him. At the bottom, Liam's tweet.
Actually Liam always tweets things that basically confirm they're relationship. Like when somebody asked him if he ever rimmed Noel. Yeah.
This radio interview is where the most lovely quotes come from. Only Noel was supposed to be interviewed but then they both showed up PISSED DRUNK. Transcription in the same post
Even More weird quotes
This one involves the word impregnate
Noel making a suspicious comment about his daughter and son, Anais and Donovan
I think to be convinced you really just need that, but I'd like to add some niceties.
Just genuinely enjoying each other’s company
This is from the Oasis; 10 Minutes Of Noise and Confusion documentary. As Noel is kissing Liam's cheek, Liam is saying "He’s a fucking cunt and I hate him and I love him and he twists my melon, man. He’s the best songwriter in the fucking world.”
Some sweet quotes, and some less sweet ones as well
From the Supersonic documentary
Hugging after playing football
Just being silly
To finish off, two wonderful video edits with endearing moments

Stuff I'm Looking Forward To in March
Wow, somehow it's already month 3 of 2024. In addition to Daylight Savings Time (March 10 - Spring ahead), Ramadan (March 10-April 9), St. Patrick's Day (March 17), first day of Spring (March 19), Palm Sunday (March 24), Holi (March 25), Good Friday (March 29), and Easter (March 31) here is what's on my radar this month:
Movies:
Dune: Part Two
Denis Villeneuve has become one of the great visual stylists of recent years thanks to films like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. I named his film Dune Part One, one of my Best Movies of 2021. How good Part One really was depends on Part Two, which drops 3/1.
Knox Goes Away
Michael Keaton has always been a tremendous actor and now he's back in the director's chair for the second time with a starring role about a contract killer who has a form of dementia and he attempts to connect with his estranged son. Oh and Al Pacino co-stars! Opens 3/15.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
A Ghostbusters sequel is a tall order. Jason Reitman's 2021 sequel Ghostbusters Afterlife actually had its moments and it had a lot to say about living up to a legacy, in the film it's the grandchildren of Egon, but it could also be Jason Reitman about the fear and honor of continuing a film series that his dad Ivan began. The new sequel is directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote this with Jason. The fact that original Ghostbuster cast members are back gives me hope. Sequel drops 3/22.
Music:
Sheer Mag Playing Favorites
I was lucky enough to see Philly rockers Sheer Mag at House of Blues in May 2022. After two solid albums, they are finally back with their third, dropping on 3/1. (Review to come)
Liam Gallagher & John Squire Liam Gallagher John Squire
Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher's solo career has been a mixed back, but his album As You Were was one of my Best Albums of the 2010s. As shown in the 2019 documentary Liam Gallagher: As It Was, he doesn't need to play music for money or fame, he has plenty. He plays because he loves music. Now he's doing a new album with John Squire, former guitarist for The Stone Roses. Sounds like a serious meeting of musical minds! Album drops 3/1.
The Black Crowes Happiness Bastards
The first new studio album from The Black Crowes since 2009 is cause for celebration. After a bitter break-up in 2015, the brothers Chris and Rich Robinson announced they were reuniting in 2019. In early 2020, I caught an acoustic live show from Brothers of a Feather (my last concert before the pandemic lockdowns) and since that show, The Black Crowes have had some reunion tours (NOTE: by reunion - I mean Chris and Rich, not the original lineup). They've released some anniversary albums, but this marks the group's first studio album in 15 years. Looking forward to it when it drops on 3/15.
The Dandy Warhols Rockmaker
I've always loved Portlandia's The Dandy Warhols. Through this blog, I've had the pleasure of interviewing lead Dandy Courtney Taylor-Taylor and keyboardist / bassist Zia McCabe, the band's 2019 Boston concert, and their excellent 2019 album Why You So Crazy. Now the band is back with a new album dropping on 3/15! (Review to come)
Film Festivals:
Boston Underground Film Festival
Boston's fun genre film festival for horror, fantasy and bizarre is back. I've had the pleasure of covering this fest from 2016 to 2019 and returning last year. The fest returns to The Brattle Theatre (Cambridge, MA) from 3/20 to 3/24!
Conventions:
Northeast Comic Con
I've had a blast covering the Northeast Comic Con for years now (read my coverage here) and the Spring 2024 edition returns with guests like Kevin Chapman (who I worked with on Monument Ave), a Growing Pains reunion of Tracey Gold, Jeremy Miller and Julie McCullough, The Go-Go's drummer Gina Schock and more! Convention is at the Boxborough Regency (Boxborough, MA) from 3/8-3/10. (Coverage to come).
Awards Season:
The awards season for the best of 2023 continues on with the Razzie Awards, actually the Worst of 2023 (3/9) and the Academy Awards (3/10).
In a Category all its own...
Shamrock shakes!!!

youth is only ever fun in retrospect (circa 2016)
"I fell in love with the band whole heartedly when lead singer Oscar Pollock, mid set during 'Flame', was chased around by a bee."
Growing up around parents with a good taste in music is a blessing and a curse. From a young age I was around bands like Arctic Monkeys, Bowie, Oasis & Stone Roses just to name a few and it meant I was always destined for a life diverted from the straight and narrow. Never the less due to this by the time I was 16 I was begging to find something. My mind was numb with indie riffs whose magic had worn off.
I had just come out of the war of early 2010's which, as I'm sure some will remember, was a pop culture abyss of jeggings, GEEK across every top, Tumblr (as its best) and a slew of dance pop with artists like Lady Gaga, One Direction and Carly Rea Jepsen, smothering the world with an brits in Ibiza vibe.
Now, before you start, I am no snob. I indulged in all of what I have just listed with great delight before I entered the dreaded emo phase. Depression is a fucker and I treat it with all the emo greats but as I started growing up and finding a decent group of mates, (who I will describe as a BTEC skins cast dressed in Levi's and DM's) I started to look for something a little lighter and rekindled my love for Indie.
Being from Leeds the eponymic festival was the event of the year and the line up was immense. Packed full with Indie Rock knockouts. The 1975 was Headlining the NME stage to put it into perspective and this bank holiday weekend for me and my friends was the epitome of music coinciding with the life we were living.
Main stage a Leeds Fest 2016 was the first time I heard the up and coming band Sundara Karma's first album "Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Retrospect". In hindsight now being 23 I cant describe it any other way as glorious adolescence and at the time it was exactly what I was looking for. I fell in love with the band whole heartedly when lead singer Oscar Pollock, mid set during 'Flame', was chased around by a bee. Music aside the whole set was just a welcome mat for the new indie boom to say were here for a good time who knows if its a long time, get in the pit.
Here I will be talking about the albums I love and the experiences I have had with them. I don't really care if anyone reads them. This is just a bored diary of a nostalgic brain.

3. Backbeat
Dagny
It’s about time I finished this build, i’ve been working on it for a while as the third part of my Sims Shuffle Challenge. Backbeat by Dagny has been living in my playlist since 2016 and everytime I listen to it, it reminds me of the fun of a music festival so that’s what I built! It’s 1/2 generic British summertime music festival, and 1/2 what I would imagine Coachella to be like
For the original challenge post, go here

The build itself has 5 main sections:
The entrance with a ticket area, security gate, merch store and information area
The main stage which also has a bar, a cafe, two food stalls, a flower wall for photos, a medical tent, a daycare tent and a couple of toilet stalls
The VIP section which has access to the VIP bar tent, the backstage area and the VIP yurts

Happy 25th Birthday Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi born on October 17th 1996 in Glasgow.
Lewis is the youngest of four children. His mother is a nurse and his father is a fishmonger. He went to school at St Kentigern’s Academy Blackburn, the family having moved to that area when Lewis was about four, he went on to gain an HND in music at New College Lanarkshire, Motherwell, graduating in 2016. Lewis Capaldi began creating a buzz in early 2017 with the release of his debut single, Bruises, a brooding exploration of a failed relationship that introduced his intimate piano and vocal sound. The song hit number 2 in Scotland and 6 UK wide.
On the strength of his lone single, the Bathgate man sold out legendary Glasgow club King Tut’s and notched millions of streams before dropping his follow-up single, the equally stark “Lost on You,” later that summer. While the songs were not massive hits they certainly gained him many fans and had the record companies sniffing around looking to sign him
After signing with Virgin Records, Capaldi included both songs on his debut EP, Bloom, and capped off his banner year with a Scottish Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
The front half of 2018 was spent touring in North America and Europe in advance of his next single, Rush, featuring Jessie Reyez. Tough followed a few months later. Both tracks were featured on his next EP, Breach, which arrived in November of that year. The tracks performed well but still in my opinion never set the heather of fire This was all to change with the third single from the EP. “Someone You Loved” was a commercial success, peaking at number one in several countries including a hard nut to crack, the USA. It was what they call a sleeper hit over there, not reaching the top until its 24th week on the chart, one of the longest climbs to the top position in Billboard history, it spent three weeks at the top.
It earned him a Grammy nomination and another nomination as song of the year at the Brits.
In the NME Capaldi revealed that it took him six months to write the song. He said, “A lot of people say that ‘the best songs fall into your lap’ and that they’re the easiest ones to write and take the shortest amount of time: I wholeheartedly disagree with that. I think my best songs come from me sitting at a piano, bashing my head against a brick wall for hours and hours on end to get one good melody.”
Capaldi’s debut LP – titled Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent – arrived in May 2019 on Virgin EMI, it hit the top ten in 9 countries and number 1 in three of them, including the UK and of course Scotland as of September 2020 it had passed one million UK chart sales.
I love the wee guys sense of humour, he was slagged off by Noel Gallagher who remarked Lewis Capaldi: “Fucking Chewbacca should enjoy his 15 minutes” Lewis took it all in his stride, changing his Twitter username to Chewis Capaldi and updated his profile picture to him as Chewbacca. Capaldi later took to the stage at TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow wearing a Chewbacca mask! After removing the mask, Lewis dedicated his rendition of Oasis hit Don’t Look Back In Anger to his “dear, dear father” Noel and changed the title to “Don’t Chewbac In Anger”. Gallagher further endeared himself to us Scots by calling Scotland “a third world country"
Taking to Instagram, Lewis posted a video in which he expressed his pleasure that being the latest in a long line of musicians to be "slagged off” by Noel was better than having a number one record.
The mask later raised £10,000 to fellow Scots singing sensation Paolo Nutini before it was raffled off again to raise even more money for the mental health charity Tiny Changes which was set up in memory of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, who tragically took his own life the year before.
Since 2020, Capaldi has been in writing and recording sessions for his forthcoming second studio album which is expected to be released at some stage during 2022. He announced at the end of December 2020 that he'd be taking a break from social media to focus on work for the album.
It’s great that Lewis hasn’t been dazzled by the bright lights of London 18 months ago he was still staying with his mammy, but has since Capaldi bought Castlehill farmhouse in East Renfrewshire.
Just last week Scots TikTok sensation Nathan Evans got fans buzzing on social media as he shared a photo with West Lothian. The pair smiled on Evans' Instagram where he captioned the post 'Scotland’s finest' - and fans are desperate for a collaboration between the pair.
If you come across this Lewis, I hope the new songs are coming along nicely and look forward to hearing a lot more of you in the future.
I chose this live version of Fade, as I think it is brilliant.

Nadie viene a Uruguay.

Hi! I read bendinsignposts supernatural au with professor!cas. I’ve never seen an episode of supernatural, but I like the dynamic of the characters and loved reading it. Do you have any recs for long form au cas/Dean fic?
Ohhhhhh ooooooooooh this is a fun question! Do I ever. Hmmmm...
Ok first I’ll get my self-recs out of the way:
Unwritten - 75k ABO but it’s weird ABO to the point that I had to write an appendix to go with it explaining the biology and sociology of the world. I’ve been told that people who don’t often like ABO like it. Alpha/alpha, Dean is a bookstore owner and Cas is a sci fi novelist, and they resent their bodies trying to override their free will.
Go Down With This Ship - 31k so not that long. Dean and Cas are fic writers who meet online and, unknowingly, also in person (two person love triangle!).
The Breath Before the Phrase - 75k Librarian Cas and mechanic/creative writing student Dean meet at a literary festival and Dean is keeping something from Cas. I’ll admit I didn’t stick the landing on this one - I meant to write one more chapter, but couldn’t get it to work so I eventually marked it complete as-is. The conflict has been resolved, the story is over for all intents and purposes, it just could have used a bit of a denoument or something. This was before my current policy of not posting WIPs til they’re done.
Other people’s fic:
If you like bendingsignpost’s writing (and how could you not?) you should definitely also read Cinderwings! It’s a cinderella retelling but that’s just kind of the starting point for a pretty epic fantasy story (181k). Anyone who is familiar with SPN canon will get a kick out of how he twists canon to his AU purposes, but knowledge of the show is 100% not required to enjoy this.
Plus One by ceeainthereforthat - 90k The author was nominated for a Nebula for her debut novel in 2018, and her fic is just as good. Cas is I think a high-powered TV producer? Something along those lines. Dean is a small-time actor looking for a break. Cas hires Dean to be his date for some weddings, fake relationship shenanigans ensue. One of my all-time faves.
The Way to a Man’s Heart is Through Chlamydia by violue - 89k + 20k worth of timestamps. After a one night stand, Dean finds out he has chlamydia and has to contact said one night stand. Also one of my all-time faves, it veers into absolute ridiculousness sometimes but has so much heart. This is my comfort rereading fic.
Also, everything else violue has ever written tbh. Some of her series:
Hazelnut Valley - Author Cas moves to a remote mountain town. Dean doesn’t realize Cas is the author of his favorite book series (under a pseudonym).
Carnival Oasis - Dean is still a hunter, but Cas is a creature who feeds on (and gets off on) people confessing their sins. Winds up going in some surprisingly domestic directions given how it starts.
The Spirit of Lawrence High - I usually avoid high school AUs but I give them a chance if it’s an author I love, and this one is great. Dean is a ghost haunting Castiel’s school
Astrolabe by reluctantabandon and winterofourdiscontent- 35k I loved this so much I wrote fic of their fic. Another two person love triangle (what can I say, I’ve got a type): Dean and Cas are two grad students who have adjoining study carrels in the library and leave each other notes.
Not Part of the Plan by AnnieD (scaramouche) - 337k Epic series OMG! Set in a fantasy world where some magic exists but technology is maybe at mid-80s levels? It starts with a one night stand because Cas is about to be pushed into an arranged marriage as a political pawn and he wants one night of freedom. Then he finds out that he slept with the brother of the guy he’s marrying. Then Sam runs off and oops now Dean and Cas have to get married! And that gets you through the first, oh, 25k out of this 337k story. There’s political intrigue, kidnappings, culture shock, learning to trust each other and then having to learn it again, sneaking around in disguise, alchemy, all kinds of good stuff. A++ Probably the only fic/series of this length that I’ve reread more than once.
The Last Great Race by wincechesters - 65k I love ultra-specific AUs where the author really gets into the details of the world. This one is about the Iditarod. Cas is a journalist covering the race, Dean is a musher.
This is getting long so I’ll finish up with a few other writers who have plenty of good AU fics/series to choose from: ltleflrt sysrae tiptoe39 ChasingRabbits thepinupchemist WinJennster
I have 72 Dean/Cas bookmarks on AO3, you’re also welcome to look through those - I kind of just grabbed the first long AUs I saw for this post.
I am sure other people will have recs to add to this post. ;)
Edit: Note that I haven’t actually read destiel fic heavily since about 2016-2017, so I’m sure there are a ton of amazing new fics that I don’t even know about. I still read some, but mostly only from the people I’m already subscribed to.

Taylor Swift headlining Glastonbury isn't outrageous; it's outrageous it took this long to invite her
By: Neil McCormick for The Telegraph Date: December 16th 2019

Oh dear, here we go again. Taylor Swift is headlining Glastonbury festival and some people are a bit upset because - let me see if I have got this right - she’s a girly girl who plays girly pop music. For girls. Or something like that.
The 30-year-old American pop star will close the 2020 festivities with a Sunday night set on the Pyramid Stage. Given that all 134,000 tickets sold out in half an hour in October before any artists had even been announced, you might think festival goers would be excited at the prospect of being entertained by one of the biggest musical superstars in the world right now, who has won 10 Grammys and was this year voted Artist of the Decade by the American Music Awards.
But apparently not.
On the reliably combustible Twitter, fans were threatening to eat their tickets and throw themselves out windows. A Twitter user answering to the handle @TheVillaDecree helpfully summed up the problem in one grammatically suspect tweet: ‘Where the proper modern rock?! Very disappointed.’
Where the proper modern rock, indeed?
There persists a strange notion in some quarters that Glastonbury is an ancient and venerable institution dedicated to the worship of men with guitars, and that to allow this hallowed stage to be trod upon by anything other than a hairy rock band is an act of spiritual sacrilege.
That was essentially what Noel Gallagher was trying to express back in 2008, when he objected to rap superstar Jay Z’s headline set on the grounds that “I’m not having hip hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong.” But, of course, Jay Z performed a fantastic set for a huge audience and even amusingly played one of Noel’s Oasis songs to rub it in.
Last year, by universal critical and popular acclaim, the stand-out headline performance was delivered by another rapper, Stormzy. He made history as the first British black male to headline Glastonbury. It was treated as a historic moment. But as a representative of the music Britain actually listens to now, that helps shape and reflect the consciousness of the young people who most obsess over it, you could argue that Stormzy did not need Glastonbury as much as Glastonbury needed him. Because pop culture is ever-changing and a music festival as ambitious and wide-ranging as Glastonbury needs to change with it or be left behind. And this year Taylor Swift is very much part of that change.
Swift will be only the sixth female solo artist to ever headline Glastonbury festival. On its 50th anniversary. Think about that. A festival that has been running for five decades, with three major headliners each year, has only managed to make top billing space for a handful of women.
They were Suzanne Vega in 1989, Sinead O’Connor in 1990, Kylie Minogue in 2005, Beyoncé in 2011 and Adele in 2016. We should add to that list pop duo Shakespears Sister in 1992, rock band Skunk Anansie in 1999 (fronted by Skin) and Florence + The Machine in 2015 (with the proviso that Florence Welch only got the headline spot because American rock band the Foo Fighters pulled out).
If you really want to express outrage about something on Twitter, that might be a place to start. Women have been marginalised in music for as long as there has been a music business, and Glastonbury’s paucity of female headliners is just another reflection of that. I wonder how much of that has been caused by a bias against the very idea that there is a kind of female pop music that just isn’t worthy of the serious attention and reverence accorded men with guitars?
But pop is the sound of our times. Not modern rock. Not old school rock. Not rock at all. And female artists are making some of the most imaginative and adventurous pop music that has ever been heard. And right there at the head of the pack is Taylor Swift, a witty, emotional singer-songwriter who uses confessional, diaristic songcraft to turn the narratives of her life into huge anthems that have reverberated around the world.
She sells in multi-millions and streams in the billions. She has been among the top 10 touring artists worldwide this decade, which would suggest she knows how to put on a show. The question isn’t whether she deserves to be at Glastonbury, the question is why Glastonbury has taken so long to invite her?
She is going to smash it. And hopefully the next time a major female superstar deigns to grace Glastonbury festival with her presence, it will not be seen as something to moan about on social media, but just show-business as usual.
#fun read - plus maybe some of you don't have access to the full article =)#it was actually kinda funny to watch the reactions...#cause for every person moaning there's few asking ''great - are you selling your tickets then?'' lmao =)#this happens every year...it's getting boring by now... but it's a cool read because it emphasizes the inequality that's going on#I never actually looked into that before...#taylor swift#article#the telegraph#glastonbury 2020#june 28th 2020#lover era#lover tour#artist of the decade

Louis Tomlinson: ‘I Want To Be an Honest and Relatable Songwriter‘
The former One Direction member on his latest single ‘Kill My Mind,’ trusting his gut and finding his place in the industry
It’s Friday evening when Louis Tomlinson greets me with a, “Hi! How’s it going?” on call. The line is plagued by weekend excitement but also jitters.
The Doncaster native is not too far from home. Tomlinson is in rainy London (and mercifully seas away from the Mumbai rains), rehearsing for his upcoming set at the Coca-Cola Music Experience Festival in Madrid this coming week. Despite the weather, he’s rather cheery and listeners might be able to put their finger on why.
24 hours before our conversation, the British singer-songwriter had released the second single, “Kill My Mind,” off his upcoming debut LP (set to release in 2020). The song has been touted for its distinctive alternative pop-rock sound and is Tomlinson’s nod to finally embracing his own sonic identity.
The single’s release follows his August Teen Choice Award (Choice Song: Male Artist) win for “Two Of Us,” a pop ballad Tomlinson penned to remember his mum who passed away in 2016 after fighting cancer. He says, “I’m really excited to finally have ‘Kill My Mind’ out. It was really important for me [because] when I wrote the last song, it was quite emotionally heavy and I think it was quite important for me to put out a message that was fun, nostalgic and young.”
Life has a way of unearthing sounds from within we didn’t know were ready for the world and a couple of instances led Tomlinson to start making music that was true to him. One of these was meeting London producer Jamie Hartman. “Especially while I was starting my solo career (in 2016, post One Direction’s indefinite hiatus), I spent a lot of time working with different producers and there were a few people that I met that I thought were great, but I didn’t really think they understood me as an artist,” he shares. Tomlinson and Hartman clicked from the very first session. “I wanted to do something that’s fun, juvenile and uplifting, and I think we got that pinned in one night,” he shares.
For the five years (2010 -15) Tomlinson was a member of One Direction, he couldn’t have been more comfortable. But the last two years brought him to a crossroads, steering him on a path to finding his place in the industry as a solo artist. “I like the idea of finally finding my lane and feeling comfortable and confident about what I’m doing,” he says.
The 27-year-old has sure come a long way. From his British pop band days to his experiments with electronica and pop to finally settling into pop-rock with a northern English sound influenced by rock outfits such as Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and The Smiths, to name a few; there have been more than just the numerous world tours, records and awards to introspect on. “What’s being played on American radio at the moment is a little bit different; I don’t really understand some of those references of sound,” he says. He certainly likes what he hears on the radio; the tunes just don’t feel true to him as an artist. “I thought it was important for me to kind of stand strong and do what I love,” he says.
Tomlinson is excited to share his lyrics with the world; speaking on concepts and emanating from themes that we all have at some point voiced or shared. In general, listeners can expect tracks that follow the sonic imprint of the pop-punk “Miss You,” “Two Of Us” and “Kill My Mind.” More than anything, they can expect authenticity. “I just want to be an honest and relatable songwriter,” he says.
The upcoming yet-to-be titled LP is bound to pack quite a punch and will potentially span anywhere between 10 to 14 tracks; the number is nowhere near definite. Tomlinson says with a laugh, “Well, I think I’ve got a bit of a problem because I like value for money. So, I think there should be quite a few tracks on there. But I do think it’s also quality over quantity. So I haven’t quite decided yet.”
Tomlinson is already thinking ahead of the album. There’s a whirlwind of experiences to look forward to, especially with his first solo LP release. He’s teeming with exhilaration as he tells me about the upcoming live shows, the tour and of course, the fans. “When I’m writing the songs, I’m also writing them with the live show in mind, thinking that I need to write songs that are going to transform a live show and be exciting to watch and listen to,” he says. Then there’s the tour which he knows will influence him creatively. “My tour…that’s when I’m finally going to feel like I’ve started my career as a solo artist, when I can finally get on the road and tour those songs and feel the reaction from the fans, watch them singing my lyrics. It’s always very special,” he says. When the road is a silent companion and the grinding of the wheel on the tarmac is the only reminder of the world outside, the different cities, countries and cultures, they all find a home in Tomlinson’s pages. “There are times when you get lonely as well. So, I think it’s a really thought-provoking time and it’s always good for writing content,” he says.
India just might be on the tour map but nothing is set in place yet. “I’ve heard incredible things and the fans in India are incredible. So, I can’t wait to come out there and hopefully do a show. That would be amazing,” says the singer-songwriter with excitement that zaps through the line, palpable in its promise.
If the last nine years have taught the Doncaster-bred musician anything, it has been to pay keen attention to intuition. “What I’ve learned most after being in a job that’s as fast-paced and demanding as this, is to just trust your gut and sometimes, you know, sometimes people around you might not have the same feeling as you do, but you just gotta trust your gut always. Be brave and bold and make the right decisions,” he says.
There’s a method to the legacy he’s building; he just doesn’t know it yet. With him finding his sound and tapping into his faculties as a songwriter, Tomlinson is well on the way to realizing it. His debut album just might be a new beginning. “I don’t want to be defined as the guy who makes sad songs, I want to make people feel good about themselves,” he says.

Louis’ Interview with 1883 Magazine
Everybody knows One Direction - the band which was formed through The X-Factor in 2010 and went on to become the world’s biggest and most acclaimed boy band. Sold out tours, millions of international fans, and high-charting albums - Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson created history.
However, in 2016 it was announced that One Direction will be on hiatus until further notice, which then led to each member launching their solo careers. Yet, they maintained strong from their loyal fanbase throughout the break-up and their individual journeys. 1883 Magazine sat down with Louis Tomlinson, the member who always saw himself as the outcast of the band - even though his fanbase is growing as strong as ever!
Having released collaborative singles with the likes of Steve Aoki and Bebe Rexha to being on the judging panel of The X-Factor - ever single laughing his solo career, Louis has been actively working on being the greatest version of himself to date. The past three years he has spent a lot of time in the studio working on his debut album, and recently released a taste of what we can expect from it sound-wise - his brand new single ‘Two of Us’ is a beautiful yet heartbreaking ode to his late mother and represents Louis’s unique, raw style of songwriting. During our interview at Beach Blanket Babylon in London’s Notting Hill, he spoke more about the meaning behind the single, a One Direction reunion tour and being robbed in LA.
Interviewer: I’ve had a listen to your brand new single ‘Two of Us’. What a heartfelt song about your mum! It must have been so emotional to write it.
Louis: I’ll be honest, I kinda needed to get this song off my chest really and I knew going into these sessions and writing about different things I knew I wouldn’t feel complete. So I got it off my chest. But I wasn’t ready to write that song because in my head I wanted to be four, five years into my songwriting because it is such an important song to me. Then a few writers got in touch and I went to a session with them and told them my idea, and straight away it felt perfect. I haven’t felt the confidence to write this song by myself from scratch but they gave me the confidence I needed. And then the next hours we delved into it, changed things and now the end result is something I am really proud of.
I: So you were only able to do it alongside the other songwriters?
L: Yeah, they heard the song and asked what had happened. It just made so much sense with them. It evolved and I told them the background story. And then it just kind of came together and I managed to deliver the message that I wanted to deliver. I don’t want people to be exhausted after listening to it, I don’t want people to feel weighed down. I want them to be hopeful, just like the collaborative song I did with Steve Aoki. Just getting that message across felt really liberating.
I: I really like the song; I think you delivered the message very well. Generally, do you prefer writing alone or with other songwriters?
L: Both, really. Obviously, sometimes on my own but I think where I’m at, in terms of my songwriting stage, I don’t consider myself as a proper professional yet. When I’m in these circles, it helps to be around that experience.
I: Why don’t you see yourself as a professional?
L: Because as a songwriter I am quite unique, some of these pop sessions have more structure and I am less precise in my writing. I like to not have too many limitations of what a song should be, do you know what I mean? Especially a song like ‘Two of Us’, which is biographical.
I: Do you ever have to deal with any overly obsessive fans, as in groupies?
L: I mean, there are fans everywhere I go. But you kind of start recognizing faces. In London, for example ,there are about 20 individuals who are always somehow there when I’m doing something. And they don’t know how much confidence that gives me. Like, when I do a TV show - and I’m scared of that - and the minute I see a familiar face of my fans, I feel like what I do is important. My side stuff felt like a leap of faith to me and it’s all driven by the belief of the fans who keep me going.
I: So without fans, you wouldn’t have done a solo career?
L: Oh, no! When I was in the band, everything went so amazingly. It’s very hard to have a relative way of an example of where you stand in the industry. So the fans constantly gave me reinforcement.
I: If there hadn’t been that incredible support, where would you have seen yourself after the band’s hiatus decision?
L: In my head, I would have just gotten better at songwriting, and write for other people. I hadn’t given it too much thought because us as a band didn’t have too much time to think about what we were going to do. But honestly, it sounds so generic, I wouldn't have had confidence without my fans. Now I feel empowered and it’s giving me strength. You find yourself in these do-or-die situations, and it’s been amazing so far.
I: do you think there’ll be an end to One Direction’s hiatus? Like a reunion tour or something else?
L: There’s gotta be! One hundred perfect. As far as I’m concerned, we are all good at doing our individual stuff right now and it’s great for yourself as an individual but the day we do get back together will be a magical day for all of us. I think everyone is in the same boat when it comes to this; it’s inevitable and the question is just when are we going to do it. Now that we are on this break, I can look back and say it was massive but looking from the other side you can see the influence and important. That’s really cool, just seeing our positive influence. we were such a powerhouse. It’s a no-brainer, I’m the first to sign the sheets to get back together.
I: Let’s hope so! Do you still keep in touch with the others?
L: Yeah, we’ve been through so much. Obviously some speak more than others but that’s normal. Without it sounding condescending, I was always the oldest and still feel like a duty of care. I constantly check in with all of them. We always had each other when there was stress in the band, and we don’t have that anymore because we are doing solo careers.
I: On another note, how was your X-Factor experience, and why did you decide to be on the panel?
L: Well, obviously we came from the show and it kind of feels like home. Although I didn’t have experience on that side of TV. I felt confidence because I knew what it was like. What I wasn’t prepared for, though, was how emotionally invested I would be. I felt a bit of guilt as well because there were contestants who’d participated the same year we did, and I remembered them from boot camp. So that was a weird dynamic. It was humbling, definitely.
I: What were the biggest challenges?
L: The first day of audition I was terrified, to be honest.I was proper nervous but once I had done a couple I knew I didn’t have to become this character, this TV version of myself. I realized I could just go on and look after the contestants. It’s given me great experience that I wouldn’t have had elsewhere.
I: What was it like being part of the winning team?
L: The winner stood out clearly, from the first live show he had everyone say that he is going to be a winner, and there was a lot of pressure.
I: Would you ever do it again?
L: Maybe, I loved the experience. I never say never! I’m so determined to prove a point with my music so if it interrupted that process it would be a very hard decision, to be honest. Music comes first every time for me. Maybe one day!
I: You said you are all about developing new artists, would you ever mentor one?
L: I have an imprint at Syco and I think I’ve got good music taste. I’ve always been interested in finding new bands because that seems kinda cool to me, and I had a list of a couple of bands I really liked. And since then I had that imprint deal, I’m constantly on the lookout.
I: Where do you usually lookout for these new bands?
L: BBC Introducing is great. Other than that, it’s just these tedious ways of using Soundcloud and YouTube. I think in terms of what I’m looking for is a little bit of rock, defiance, and everything instead of this clean-cut we’ve got a lot of.
I: Nothing wrong with Rock, which are your favorite Rock acts?
L: I love Oasis, I love Liam Gallagher to be honest! He’s unique and different, love him or hate him. He is a breath of fresh air. As I was growing up, and that is the reason I struggled to place myself on the radio, it was the time where guitar-driven pop really got big on the airwaves. You know, bands like The Kooks, Oasis, Two Door Cinema Club. Now, Hip Hop and R&B are taking that spot and it’s hard to relate to that. I don’t want to be too pretentious, I’m [well] aware of where I come from but I have a mission where I want to be.
I: So how would you classify your genre?
L: Oh, that’s a big question. Wow, that’s hard. In terms of what I’m looking for from a production point of view I want things to sound organic and live. Not too many programmed instruments. I want it to feel authentic. From a lyric perspective, almost like indie-pop, very conversational. All these sexy metaphors people put in their music? I ain’t got time for that. I like it straight to the point. It’s hard to classify it as a particular genre.
I: After your album release, would you go on tour again?
L: Definitely! Hopefully, I will get some dates locked in before the end of the year because I haven’t been on the road for a good three years. I miss the routine, it’s the Rock ‘n’ Roll lifestyle. You wake up at 3pm, do the show on a high, go to bed and do it all over again. It’s definitely super fun.
I: Would you ever consider performing at a festival?
L: Yeah! I did Ultra Festival with Steve Aoki in Miami. It was so good. It was a proper performance and hoped for the the best but I loved it. EDM fans are proper fanatical, they party hard! I don’t remember too much, but I came off buzzing. Those moments, going out on your one which is a different experience, just move you.
So one day, being on a festival bill would be really amazing, but I have to make that transition music-wise before approaching festivals.
I: You are also constantly jetting between Los Angeles and London, do you have plans to settle down in one of those cities one day?
L: I’m kind of used to traveling, a lot of sesions make me travel between those countries anyway...I’m just used to it now. I actually got robbed in LA, though.
I: What, how did you find out?
L: I saw it on CCTV, these f*ckers. They didn’t take anything sentimental. I haven’t actually been robbed since I was 10 years old.
I: Wow. But do you refer LA or London? I suppose LA due to the better weather?
L: I much prefer London. I feel like I’m a very British character so when I’m in LA for too long I feel too different. There are a lo tof people there who are f*ke as fuck, and they’re cold. But the locals are the cool ones, it’s the ones from the outside who try to snake you.
I: One a different note, what are you watching on Netflix right now?
L: This may sound creepy but I’m proper into Psychology so I watch sinister, dark stuff. Lots of murder mystery on Netflix, and I watch many documentaries, such as David Attenborough’s stuff. What I don’t like is Stranger Things. I can’t get into it.
I: How did you deal with the additional grief over the past few months?
L: I’m so grateful for all of my fans worldwide for their love and support, but especially over the last few months. They are always there for me and I appreciate every single one of them.
I: Are you still planning to release your album this year or have you got an other projects coming up?
L: I’m really looking forward to releasing more music in the next few months with my album coming early next year. I’m really excited to get this record out and getting back on the road too. It’s been a long process, but I’ve finally got everything into a place which I’m really happy with. I’m going to feel so relieved and proud when the fans get to hear the album!
I: Are there going to be any features on the album? I don’t think so. I think it’s important that people can see and hear a body of work and try to see who I am as an artist.
Single ‘Two of Us’ is out now.

Louis Tomlinson will debut "some new songs" during his performance at the Coca-Cola Music Experience Festival in Madrid, Spain next month.
Louis Tomlinson is set to give some of his new songs their live debut at his upcoming show in Madrid, Spain.
The One Direction star is performing at the Coca-Cola Music Experience Festival, which takes place over September 13 and September 14 in the city, and he took to Twitter on Thursday (22.08.19) to tease fans about the new material he's planning to play.
In a series of tweets, he told his 33.3 million followers: "Madrid is gonna be MASSIVE! Can't f***ing wait now! ... Also gonna be playing some new songs at Madrid! Exciting (sic)"
Just last week, Louis teased that there is "not long now" until he releases new tunes.
Thanking fans for choosing him as the winner of the Choice Single: Male Artist Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards for his emotional single, 'Two Of Us' - which helped him with the grief of losing his mother Johannah Deakin - he wrote: "Just another thank you to everyone who voted for the award. You're all incredible!! Not long now..... (sic)"
The 'Just Hold On' hitmaker previously revealed he was inspired by Liam Gallagher to bare his soul on the single.
The former Oasis rocker's debut solo album 'As You Were' gave him the strength to work his own raw emotions into his lyrics.
He said: "I don't like being clever for the sake of being clever. Sometimes it's cool to read between the lines.
"My lyrical style, naturally, is to just be matter of fact, honest and sometimes blunt. I kind of shied away from writing that song because I didn't really think I was ready to go through that process yet.
"I got into a session and we ended up getting into it, and it was going perfectly. I really did want to write this song, I was just intimidated at first because it had to be perfect."
Liam's introspective LP - which featured marriage breakup songs like 'For What It's Worth' and 'Paper Crown' - inspired Louis to try and make a similar kind of impact with his own writing.
He added: "There had to be little things in there that were really thought-provoking for me. I feel like we got the whole message across perfectly."
The 27-year-old singer tragically lost mum Johannah in 2016, when she passed away aged 43 after losing her battle with leukaemia, and on 'Two of Us' he painfully sings about wishing he was the one who died.
He belts out: "You'll never know how much I miss you, the day that they took you, I wish it was me instead."
On the chorus, Louis sings: "I will be the best of me, always keep you next to me, I'll be living one life for the two of us."
As well as debut single 'Just Hold On' and 'Two Of Us', Louis has released the tracks 'Back to You' with Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals and 'Miss You'.

The third wave of acts are revealed today, including Agents Of Time (live), Black Rose, Call Super, DJ Stingray, Dr. Rubinstein, Pantha du Prince (live), Shed, Willow and more. With acts including Richie Hawtin, Maceo Plex, Nicolas Jaar, Marcel Dettmann, Anja Schneider, Moodymann, KiNK and Charlotte de Witte also on the bill, this is set to be the biggest edition to date.
There’s not many festivals in the world where you can ride a camel in the desert by day and dance beneath the stars by night, soundtracked by the biggest stars of the electronic music scene. Founded in 2015, Oasis has put North Africa firmly on the map as the must-visit festival destination of the moment. Nestled on the outskirts of the bustling city of Marrakech, the festival continues to showcase the finest international talent, as well as shining the spotlight on the flourishing Moroccan electronic music scene.
DJ Stingray has been an innovative force in the world of Detroit techno for over twenty years. Through his unconventional techno offerings, the balaclava-clad DJ has captured the attention of alternative audiences worldwide. Happy Birthday Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi born on October 17th 1996 in Glasgow.
Lewis is the youngest of four children. His mother is a nurse and his father is a fishmonger. He went to school at St Kentigern's Academy Blackburn, the family having moved to that area when Lewis was about four, he went on to gain an HND in music at New College Lanarkshire, Motherwell, graduating in 2016. Lewis Capaldi began creating a buzz in early 2017 with the release of his debut single, Bruises, a brooding exploration of a failed relationship that introduced his intimate piano and vocal sound. The song hit number 2 in Scotland and 6 UK wide.
On the strength of his lone single, the Bathgate man sold out legendary Glasgow club King Tut's and notched millions of streams before dropping his follow-up single, the equally stark "Lost on You," later that summer.
"Someone You Loved" was a commercial success, peaking at number one in several countries including a hard nut to crack, the USA.
He said, "A lot of people say that 'the best songs fall into your lap' and that they're the easiest ones to write and take the shortest amount of time: I wholeheartedly disagree with that. I think my best songs come from me sitting at a piano, bashing my head against a brick wall for hours and hours on end to get one good melody."
Capaldi's debut LP -- titled Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent -- arrived in May 2019 on Virgin EMI, it hit the top ten in 9 countries and number 1 in three of them, including the UK and of course Scotland.
I love the wee guys sense of humour, he was slagged off by Noel Gallagher who remarked Lewis Capaldi: "Fucking Chewbacca should enjoy his 15 minutes" Lewis took it all in his stride, changing his Twitter username to Chewis Capaldi and updated his profile picture to him as Chewbacca. Capaldi later took to the stage at TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow wearing a Chewbacca mask! After removing the mask, Lewis dedicated his rendition of Oasis hit Don't Look Back In Anger to his "dear, dear father" Noel and changed the title to “Don't Chewbac In Anger”. Gallagher further endeared himself to us Scots by calling Scotland "a third world country"
Taking to Instagram, Lewis posted a video in which he expressed his pleasure that being the latest in a long line of musicians to be "slagged off" by Noel was better than having a number one record.
This version of his song Someone you loved features his second cousin Scottish actor Peter Capaldi.
I hope Lewis follows up on his early success and gives us more great music in the future
