lol I had to work very hard for that 3-star clear! but to elaborate, my e0s1 dhil when I first got him could nearly 0 cycle pretty much all of MOC and my 4* danheng was no slacker either. however, I now have e3s2 dhil and firefly (who is considered a top DPS unit) and I could barely finish this moc within 20 cycles. 4* danheng would just be unusable. even if my personal ability to clear moc is still fine, my older units just aren't doing enough damage.

that's what I mean by "powercreep" - the top DPS units are no longer competitive in endgame modes several months after their release, unless you're hyperinvested in their teams or pulling for their eidolons or both. it basically forces you to pull for new DPS units so you can continue clearing endgame content. this is expected for a gacha profit model, but it sucks if you want to keep playing the characters you love! I want to use dhil as much as possible, but the game makes it tough to do that nowadays hence why I keep pulling his eidolons + supports 😔

I got this one twice! So what I ended up deciding to do here was do this for James and for Selina, and just do those as different asks. So this one is the prompt with James! It's set pretty early on in their relationship, so well before they got married

Working out with James is always more fun for Helena than doing it alone. She’s never been big on exercising, only doing it because it’s a necessity to stay in shape with her job as a Huntress. While James and her focus on different kinds of things at Atlas Academy’s private gym— he’s more focused on strength training while she focuses on aerobics— the company is nice. 

Helena’s pretty sure she works harder when James is with her. He’s always incredibly dedicated to his exercise. She knows he likes to come here when he wants to think or needs a distraction, and sometimes it can be distracting watching him at work. But she thinks he keeps her accountable for working out, keeps her moving and trying harder for longer just because she knows he’s nearby. 

Plus, their gym dates are always fun. They’ll workout, spend some time chatting during breaks, then head out to get something to drink or eat after they finish up together. It’s more fun getting to work out when she knows that also means time with James. 

As Helena comes to sit down on a bench after her workout, James is still finishing up putting the equipment away from his. She watches him as he puts away the last of the weight, admiring how he looks in his gym clothes. There’s nothing flashy about the black gym shorts and the gray t-shirt, but he still looks handsome in it. 

And Helena always appreciates the vulnerability it brings with their workouts— James hates letting people see the prosthetics that make up the right half of his body from the shoulder down. She’s seen him in less than this, of course, but she still appreciates the reminder that he’s comfortable with her. 

“Hey,” James greets as he makes his way over to the bench. He sits down next to Helena, taking a deep breath as he settles.

“Hey,” Helena replies. “Good work out?”

“Very good. How was yours?”

“Also good. It’ll be better once we both shower and go and get something fun to drink, though.” She’s drinking from a water bottle now, but that’s not the same. She could use something more fun, maybe a smoothie or juice of some kind. It'll help her feel more refresshed after exercising.

“You’re adorable,” James says with a grin.

“That wasn’t an answer about where we’ll go after this, baby,” Helena replies.

He laughs. “How about that juice place on Bell Street? You like that one.”

“Hmm. Sounds good,” she says. She offers the bottle to him. “A drink to hold you over until then?”

“Thank you, honey.” 

James takes the bottle, taking a long swing from it. He gives a pleased sigh as he offers the bottle back to Helena, and she can’t help but smile at that.

“You’re cute,” she states. 

James says, “I think I love you.”

He looks just as surprised that the words came out of his mouth as Helena is. But as much as Helena hates surprises, this is one that she doesn’t mind. Still, it takes her time to process, a couple sounds stuttering from her mouth but not managing to form into words. 

“You don’t have to say anything,” he promises. “I shouldn’t have— I’m sorry for putting that on you.”

“No. No, you don’t need to apologize, I—” 

Helena takes James’s hand in hers, brushing her thumb against the back of it. She knows that action always means more to him than words. This should at least be enough to reassure him he did nothing wrong as she finds the words to express what she’s feeling. 

“I think I love you too,” Helena says. 

“Good,” James says. His shoulders relax, tension leaving them with the worry that his love wouldn’t be reciprocated. He squeezes her hand in his. 

Neither of them say anything else. Helena doesn’t think they need to. The thought that James loves her and could say it is enough to fill the void of silence, making it feel almost cozy. 

Helena hopes that James will tell her he loves her plenty more times, and she hopes that she’ll be able to tell him that she loves him just as often. 

Helena loves James. She doesn’t think she’s ever been able to say that about someone she’s been in a relationship with. But everything with James is different, and it’s hard to think of how to describe what she feels for him without saying she loves him. There’s a sense of safety that comes with being close to him, a knowledge that she can be vulnerable with him even when she struggles to with anyone else. He’s her rock— and he’s one of the kindest people that Helena’s ever met, even if he prefers to be kind where others can’t see it. Even if things aren’t always perfect, she knows she can always count on James, and that’s more than she could have ever hoped for. 

She hopes that he knows she’ll gladly be with him through anything. Helena wants him to know she cares about him just as much as he does her, that she’ll love him no matter what. 

And that’s a thought that she carries with her as she leans her head against James’s shoulder, their hands still linked together. 

Helena hopes that she’ll be able to tell James she loves him in every way possible. Through words, though actions, through brushes of contact with each other. 

It’s hard to find the words now. But Helena hopes that it will get easier in time. And she hopes that James will be just as able to find ways to show his care for her. She’ll treasure every moment together either way.
