I'm watching star trek enterprise and Malcolm reed's character is so interesting to me. I'm only at season 2 so maybe this will change but so far it's like they wanted to create a dude who's hot and cute but also annoying as hell and kinda insufferable but also so so so likeable and sweet and polite but also kind of a fucking asshole but also very self-sacrificing but also a whiny bitch but also selfless and brave. I'd love to dissect him and inspect him under a microscope

I actually love how the ent writers didn’t really know what to do with malcolm in the beginning and didn’t really work out his character, and thus made him kinda reserved and private and, as trip said, “hard to get to know”; and I love that they stuck with it. that’s why the whole ‘turns out he’s a retired-but-not-really secret agent’ thing works so well with him. they kinda actually gave him a personality this way. and also this gives room to speculate on his past, and also his relationship with his family, cause wdym his parents don’t speak with their son on his birthdays!!! wdym he just called them to let them know he got the job on the enterprise and that’s it!!!! wdym his own parents and sister don’t know what his fave food is!!! like, what happened!!!! I know his dad is disappointed in him that he didn’t choose the navy life and all, but what else!!! and that whole part when he thinks he’ll die with trip in that shuttlepod and he writes last letters to random girls he barely knew (and some aunties I think??) because he doesn’t have anyone else to write to Oh my god. he’s great he’s a great character and he could’ve been even better and could’ve had a nice arc and everything if we got more seasons, more time to figure him out. but, alas
