Review of the main criteria for choosing a TV
Tumblr media
The modern TVs are very complicated devices with lots of different technical values. Therefore, the choice of the optimal TV is rather complicated. Severe competition between companies is sometimes accompanied by not very honest marketing and often requires additional clarification.
LCD and LED screens
In fact, the LED screen is an LCD screen with an improved LED backlight that replaces the less efficient fluorescent backlighting. The diode matrix is located either along the edges (Edge LED) or along the back plane (Direct LED) of the screen.
Tumblr media
Each of them has advantages and disadvantages, but, according to experts, Direct LED distributes the glow more evenly. Each of them has advantages and disadvantages, but, according to experts, Direct LED distributes the light emission more evenly. In addition, it provides a higher density of black.
Tumblr media
But today the full-array is considered the best. It's used in models of the upper price segment.
Tumblr media
LED, QLED or OLED
LED TVs can not accurately reproduce black color due to constant backlighting of pixels. The playback of dark scenes on the LED screen is accompanied by gray or purple hues. The invention of OLED screens on organic light-emitting diodes solved this problem. Each such pixel emits light independently of each other. In dark areas, it completely turns off, providing playback completely black. The high price is the main drawback of OLED models. But this factor will decrease as the technology develops. The relatively low image brightness is another feature of this technology. Comparatively inexpensive OLED-panels provide brightness at the level of 700-800 cd / sq m. (As known, 1 cd / sq m = 1 nit). For comparison, the brightness of LED-TVs reaches 1400-1500 cd / sq m. Therefore, their advantages over LED TVs are visualized only at night or in a darkened room. The cost of brighter OLED models (up to 2000 cd / sq m) is very high. Samsung QLED TVs are an improved LED version and compete with OLED TVs from LG companies. Quantum Dot technology, according to the company, expands the depth and improves color rendering. But nanocrystals also do not emit light and require a backlight. In fact, today the market offers OLED and LED TVs. Differences between images on QLED and OLED screens are virtually not perceived visually.
4K resolution
Constant increase in resolution is one of the main trends. Resolution is equal to the number of pixels of the screen and provides image clarity. Accordingly, the image quality depends directly on the number of pixels, i.e. from resolution.
Tumblr media
Full HD is considered standard for LED TVs. This is enough to watch blu-ray movies and digital channels in the HD TV standard. UHD (Ultra HD) or SUHD (Super Ultra-high-definition) resolution is 4 times higher compared to Full HD. SUHD uses Quantum Dot technology, and UHD is based on LED (liquid crystals or light-emitting diodes). But limited offer 4K content inhibits the development of this segment. Today 4K resolution is available only in expensive flagship models. Additionally, UHD provides high quality only on a large enough screen with a diagonal of 55 inches and higher. The distance to the screen also affects the visualization of the playback quality that decreases in direct proportion to the distance. The difference in perception between Full HD and UHD is practically absent at a great distance. But the distance of 32 inches for a TV with a diagonal of 55 inches will be inconvenient for many people. Sometimes little-known brands offer 4K models at very low prices due to savings on matrix and CPU performance. But 4K-content playback by such a TV is often accompanied by poor color rendering quality and regular image hanging due to very long input-lag.
Support for HDR (dynamic range)
As known, HDR technology affects the gradation of colors ranging from the brightest white to the darkest black and provides the correct color rendering that affects the image realism.
Tumblr media
This technology provides more shades in shaded or too-lit areas. HDR technology requires a powerful processor, high brightness and HEVC (or VP9-Profile2) decoder. The maximum reserve of brightness should be many times greater than traditional TVs. HDR provides up to 1500 nits compared to 400 nits for standard models. The expanded color palette also requires special technologies. Today, a combination of these complex technologies is available only in expensive 4K-models. Modern 4K TVs with HDR support have a UHD Premium certificate. HDR function is indicated in the description as HDR10, HDR10 +, Dolby Vision or HLG. 4K Blu-ray format supports HDR by default. Unfortunately, this technology also requires special content that significantly limits its capabilities.
Diagonal
The diagonal affects the optimal viewing distance. A factor of 1.6 is usually used for LED TVs. Thus, a distance of 64 inch is optimal for a 40-inch model. Accordingly, the optimal distance increases with increasing diagonal size. Full HD TVs use the formula diagonal = distance (in meters) x 25 (factor). Thus, a distance of 2 meters is optimal for 50 inches. UHD uses a factor of 39. In this case, a distance of 2 meters is optimal for 78 inches, that, of course, is impressive.
Curved and flat screen
Curved screen visually increases due to the use of peripheral vision. But this effect is achieved only on models with a diagonal of 50 inches and above.
Tumblr media
Today, many experts cite fairly convincing arguments against curved models. You can see them on the video at the end.
3D
Companies are abandoning this function in their new models because of limited 3D-content and the need to use special glasses. Today, this feature is only available in models that were developed mainly until 2017. Smart TV Smart TV provides connection to the Internet and the use of apps to broadcast various content from on-line theaters and other services. Today Android OS with Google Play support is most popular. Of course, Smart TV significantly increases the model cost. Therefore, the combined use of Android set-top box and a TV without Smart TV may be perfectly reasonable alternative in many cases. Read the full article

Huawei Mate-XT Foldable Phones Launch September 2024
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: This is a theoretical review based on possible features and market trends for smartphones, even though the Huawei Mate-XT has not been officially released. It attempts to give a thorough rundown of all that a device like that could be able to do.
Overview
Huawei, a tech titan, has innovated smartphones constantly. With the much awaited Mate XT, the Mate series known for its potent performance and upscale features is predicted to carry on this tradition. This article explores the features, design, and characteristics that might set the Mate-XT apart in the crowded smartphone market.
Design and Display
The Huawei Mate-XT is its design. Huawei optimized the folding mechanism for smoother, longer use. The Mate-XT‘s hinge design ensures a smooth fold after hundreds of folding cycles. The tiny hinge design makes it thinner and lighter than its predecessors.
When unfolded, the Mate XT’s 8.03-inch OLED display feels like a tablet. Due to its deep blacks, bright colors, and high contrast ratios, the OLED panel is great for streaming movies, gaming, and seeing images. A high resolution is also supported by the huge screen, providing clear and detailed images.
The Mate-XT has a 6.5-inch cover display when folded, which is more portable and useful for regular activities like surfing, texting, and making calls. The majority of tasks may still be completed on this secondary screen with ease because of its size and smooth folding and unfolding process.
Huawei Mate-XT Release Date
September 10, 2024 is the planned release date of the Huawei Mate-XT. It will be Huawei’s first tri-fold smartphone, having a huge, foldable screen and a beautiful design.
Hardware and Performance
A flagship-level Kirin 9000S chipset powers the Huawei Mate-XT. This 5nm octa-core processor uses less electricity and performs well for demanding workloads. Multitasking, editing films, and playing the latest games are easy with the Mate XT.
Due to its 12GB RAM, the Mate XT runs smoothly even with many apps open. The smartphone has 512GB of internal storage for apps, games, photographs, and videos. Huawei supports Nano Memory Cards for additional storage.
Gaming enthusiasts get Mali-G78 GPU on the Mate-XT. The GPU keeps games running smoothly at high frame rates and visual settings.
Camera Setup
The Mate XT’s triple-camera configuration rivals professional cameras, continuing Huawei’s smartphone camera history. The Mate XT’s 50MP Ultra Vision main sensor captures excellent detail in daylight and low-light. When lighting is poor, the big sensor size captures more light, increasing image quality.
For group and landscape photos, the Mate-XT‘s 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens compliments the main camera.Ultra-wide lenses show more in one shot.
The 8MP telephoto lens adds 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom to the camera system. Huawei’s image stabilization keeps photographs crisp at high magnification levels.
For selfies, the Mate-XT has a 32MP front camera. This high-resolution sensor takes clear, realistic selfies and enhances skin tones and lighting with AI-powered beauty features.
Battery Life and Charging
The Huawei Mate XT’s 5,000mAh battery powers its huge, high-resolution display and powerful internals. Despite its diminutive size, Huawei’s battery lasts all day under usual use.
66W rapid charging is available for the Mate-XT. This lets the device charge from 0 to 100% in about an hour, reducing wall time. Users may charge the Mate XT wirelessly at 40W without sacrificing speed.
Huawei has integrated reverse wireless charging, which lets the Mate-XT charge other smartphones. This functionality is ideal for charging smartwatches and wireless earphones on the road.
Features and Software
Huawei Mate-XT uses HarmonyOS 4, its own OS. HarmonyOS works flawlessly on smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. This ecosystem connection simplifies file, notification, and task sharing between devices.
HarmonyOS’s foldable-optimized interface is smooth. Apps adjust to the phone’s folded or unfolded screen size using multi-window mode, split-screen, and app continuity. HarmonyOS keeps video and document viewing seamless and straightforward.
Huawei has added clever AI to the operating system to boost performance based on user patterns. The system may prioritize commonly used apps, manage battery usage, and optimize multitasking.
Mate-XT Price
The estimated pricing of the Huawei Mate XT is $2,500. However, depending on the area, storage options, and availability, the precise cost may change. To find out the confirmed price information for your particular market, keep a watch out for official announcements.
In summary
A premium smartphone with exceptional performance, design, and photography is expected from the Huawei Mate XT. The Mate XT will please techies and power users with its strong processor, gorgeous display, and cutting-edge features.

How to choose a TV
Tumblr media
TV is one of the mandatory attributes of any modern apartment. The market responds adequately to high demand, constantly offering more advanced models. Therefore, today the choice of the optimal model is quite complex and depends on various criteria, which are constantly adjusted depending on the development of technologies. But even a simplified classification can help in TV choice taking into account the optimal set of innovative technologies and its price.
Main trends
CES exhibition of consumer electronics most effectively reflects the trends in this segment. Since 1967, it has been held annually in Las Vegas and demonstrates the flagship models of the main market leaders. CES exhibition 2017 revealed the following trends. Refusal of 3D technology. Samsung was the first to declare a refusal to use this technology in their models. Philips, Sony and LG also abandoned 3D technology in their flagship TVs. This is due to the lack of 4K 3D standards. Leading content providers also refused to create 3D channels. Thus, fans of this format are forced to use 3D glasses that is uncomfortable for many. The quality of screens that do not require 3D glasses is still low. Therefore, today, 3D playback is still concentrated in cinemas. Refusal of curved screens These models were first proposed by LG in 2013. Samsung curved models appeared later. Today it's the only company that continues to use them. Philips, Sony and LG have also completely abandoned this technology in their new models, since most consumers in America and Europe are not interested in buying them. Experts suggest that Samsung will also completely abandon curved screens. Improvement of picture and sound quality. Today, the efforts of companies are mainly focused on improving these innovative technologies. Ultra-thin design without frames A bright and contrasting image on such a panel creates the illusion of an image that freely floats in space. But, of course, this effect requires applying the latest technology. Brands. Today, Sony, LG, Samsung, Philips and TCL are most often positioned as leaders in this segment. The main innovations belongs to Sony, LG and Samsung. But the TVs of each company have key features.
Sony
The famous Japanese company occupies a leading position in the ratings of the best manufacturers for many decades. Full range of LED TVs in all price segments are the basis of their assortment. Premium BRAVIA A1 series with innovative OLED-displays is the main development of 2017. Stylish design, very high build quality and clear realistic image with excellent color rendering are major advantages of Sony TVs. Today the company produces its models in factories in Slovakia and Malaysia. Pros: - a wide range of diagonals from 32 to 100 inches; - use of different matrixes (OLED, IPS, VA) with a refresh rate of 60 or 120 Hz and Full HD or 4K (UHD) resolution; - highly effective proprietary image quality improvement technologies (Triluminos Display, Motionflow XR, 4K X-Reality PRO); - HDR support even in Full HD models; - the concept of frameless design (thin frames, hidden laying the wires, etc.). Cons: - high price; - Smart TV is focused on paid services.
LG
Leadership of this brand in terms of image quality is manifested in the premium segment, where the company offers a wide range of innovative OLED TVs. This line includes LG Signature, Ultra HD Premium series and even an inexpensive Full HD (1080p) model. The huge popularity of LG is also due to concept of Korean companies that is based on the production of high-quality, but quite inexpensive models based on LCD matrixes with LED backlighting of the budget and average levels, and innovative Super Ultra HD TVs with Nano Cell technology. A large number of free apps for Smart TV is an added advantage. Pros: - one of the most convenient Smart TV platforms on WebOS 3.5 with the ability to update (new models equipped with a Magic Remote console); - a wide range of panels with resolution from HD-Ready to 4K (Ultra HD); - using Active * HDR technology with support for HDR 10, HLG and Dolby Vision; - TVs with LG IPS matrixes provide bright colors and ideal viewing angles; - all LG OLED panels support Dolby Atmos since 2017. Cons: - limited memory is sometimes insufficient for WebOS, especially when playing high-definition video from the browser; - the headphone jack is absent in many models.
Samsung
Today Samsung is the most popular brand in terms of sales. Its huge model range with diagonals from 24 to 88 inches provides the optimal choice for any budget and apartment size. 4K QLED TVs with displays on quantum dots are its flagship ruler. The company has chosen this direction as the main one. But today it's still LCD TVs with LED backlighting without an ultra-thin flexible screen. Traditional Full HD and 4K LED models with VA matrices of 60 or 120 Hz are the basis of the Samsung model range. Pros: - wide range of Flat and Curved models; - highly effective firm technologies for improving the original image; - low value of the video signal delay is ideal for video games; - fast, convenient and easy to use OS Tizen for Smart TV; - One Remote with voice commands. Cons: - high price for some models; - the dependence of quality on the place of assembly.
Philips
Today, the dynamic background Ambilight backlight is the main advantage of Philips TVs and is often the main reason for preferring this brand. Unfortunately, the software for Smart TV is the main disadvantage of these TVs. Low-power hardware, slow software platform with weak support and rare updates are its main drawbacks. Today, this brand belongs to the Hong Kong (Chinese) TP Vision company. Pros: - Ambilight backlight automatically adjusts the color palette depending on the content. Unfortunately, the technology is available not in all models; - excellent price/functionality ratio; - very thin design; - good color rendering, high definition and contrast of the image; - remote control with radio transmitter. Cons: - settings menu is complex; - Slow Smart TV.
TCL
The very famous American-French Thomson company in the early 2000s ceased production of TVs and sold the right to use the trademark to Chinese TCL company. Today these models are competitive only in the budget niche. The range includes traditional LED TVs with a diagonal of 19 to 55 inches. Pros: - good quality/price ratio; - simple control; - thin stylish design; - a universal set of interfaces; - digital tuner for all models. Cons: - average level of software for Smart TV; - relatively small viewing angles. This video demonstrates the new LG 88 inch 8K OLED at CES 2019. Read the full article
