TW: I guess if you don't like kitten Yena...
Inspiration: The great works of @writerpeach and @worldsover. Go check out their work on this specific... let's call it topic.
Credit: @sooyadelicacies for being my awesome co-writer and instigator of many BFH-sessions
(A/N: Looks like someone else is added to the family-harem, this time with a bit of an set up. Check out the previous story with the teaser for this one! Oh, and here are all the other chapters. Enjoy!)
"Sho tashty~"
Minju has no table manners, talking with food in her mouth. Well, the 'food' in question is your cock she is feverishly sucking from underneath the table while you and Yujin enjoy a nice, quick breakfast before Yujin has to leave for a group schedule. That's also why Minju is the only one naked, something she is perfectly accustomed to ever since you found the right room temperature for her.
"Before you go, I'll let you know that we have to move into a hotel for a week," you say as Yujin takes her final sip of coffee.
"Why is that?"
"I bought the penthouse below and above us and want to connect them via some automated staircase. I promised the construction company a huge bonus if they finish in a week, so it shouldn't be longer than this. Damn Mr. Kim, I’d love to buy the entire building, but he is too greedy."
"Daddy," Minju asks from below, her soft fingers massaging your balls while she twirls your cockhead. "Why do we need so much space, so many rooms? Isn't this big enough?"
You take a quick glance at Yujin who shakes her head. This is not the right time, don't introduce Minju to the full family plan yet. Especially not when she is busy playing with cock, the only thing on her mind, on her tongue.
"I'll tell you later, Minmin."
"And I'll see you two later," Yujin says and gives you a quick tongue kiss while cupping your cheek. Too bad you can't cup hers because you are busy playing with Minju's hair. That’s not even a first world problem, so you’ll live with it. "Love you, Daddy."
"Love you too.
"Hey, Minmin, did you drop the bowl on purpose earlier?" you ask with Yujin out the door. Minju looks utterly confused, which is heart-meltingly cute.
"Why would Minmin do that, Daddy?"
"So I'd punish you and make you suck my dick?"
"B-but Minmin can suck your dick just by crawling in your office and opening my mouth. Why would she break Daddy's bowl?"
You laugh a little. This girl is too pure and impure at the same time.
#
Going on a date without Yujin feels quite odd, you must admit. What's even weirder is that you won't need to do it in secrecy, hidden from literally everyone. Today you just walk into the cafe, a gift underneath your arm and look for your date, a girl with colorful hair. At least she was last seen with light pink strands during a meet and greet.
In the corner of the cafe is a table, in full light of the sunshine, falling in through crystal windows, and at said table is a small person, covered in a bucket hat, sunglasses and a large, black overcoat. Someone who likes to hide their identity to the world, but not you, because a flock of pink hair she flaunts from underneath the hat confirms your suspicion. It is your date.
"Do you mind if I just—"
"Oh, no, please, sit down~"
As you pull back the chair to have a seat, you intently watch the young woman remove her glasses and reveal her face to you. This is your first time seeing the Choi Yena up close in person, and with her gleeful smile, she really looks like a duck or cat or something adorable that you want to cuddle.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," you tell her and raise your hand to get the waitress's attention. "Can I invite you for a treat or a beverage?"
"Oh, I'd love to," Yena says, mocking your formal, almost posh way of speaking, before she has a light bulb moment. "Wait, you're very—let’s say well off, right? Can I order whatever I want?"
Now the ducky cat has puppy eyes, for no reason, really. You're here on this friendly date and she seems to have some sort of issue that only a wise person can resolve—of course you'll treat her.
"Get yourself whatever you want, but please." You lean forward and whisper. "Don't order too much. I find it embarrassing if they have to throw good food away."
Yena grins widely and nods, before going on a spree to order all kinds of cupcakes, pastries and milkshakes. You raise an eyebrow and calmly sip your coffee as she digs down sweet treat after sweet treat after sweet treat. To your surprise, she is not only fully capable of eating all of it, but also willing to talk about the most random shit while stuffing her face with sugary goods.
Yena lacks table manners, just like Minju did this morning.
You sit there and listen. Yena mostly talks about her daily life, mixed in with complaints about her company and sudden outbursts of adoration for IVE and their super star Yujin and how happy she is for you two.
Then she goes on tangents about IZ*ONE and what the girls have been up to. She is sad about Wonyoung, who apparently decided to pursue some rich people stuff, just like Hyewon, but when you tell her that you and Hyewon are rather close (yeah, that's all you will tell her for now), she lights up once more.
"Really? I only heard rumors about her new, joined company buying huge shares in Starship. Do you like working for Hyewon-unnie?"
You put your cup of tea down and smile. "Something like that, yeah. But now, Yena, I'm pretty sure you're avoiding something."
"Wha-what do you mean?" Yena sweats profusely, not because the overcoat is too thick, though it is, but because you finally want to get to the point. Why were you here again?
"You know what I mean. The reason you wrote the letter, Yena. You have to tell me why, all I can do is make assumptions."
Yena wraps her lips around the straw of her milkshake and quickly drinks the remaining droplets until she makes this annoying slurping sound that has your temple in scrunches. Before you can complain however, Yena finally speaks up.
"I'll tell you, bu-but can you at least guess what it's about first."
"I can, but I have to warn you, I'm very honest and upfront, no nonsense, I might trample over your feelings or say something absurd, rude even."
Yena blushes and gulps. She is all ears to what you're about to say, which has you confident that your guess is spot on.
"I believe that you are very unsatisfied with your sex life and unsure how to act out the stuff you like, so you try to look for someone with experience who you can trust but is also not in your closessed circle."
"Is it that obvious!?” Yena quickly responds as not to let awkward silence fill a possible void in this conversation.
You nod and Yena throws her hands dramatically into the air. She looks embarrassed and a bit distraught that you were able to look right through her, without shame or hesitation.
However, to your pleasant surprise, she is able to gather herself and speak like a proper grown up about her sexual frustration:
"Yeah, you were spot on. I have a lot of free time in between comebacks and schedules, which is nice and all, but I-I'm unsure about hook ups and scared that someone will... leak stuff. So I wanted to try normal dating, but even among other stars that is so ha-ard. I just want to fu-uck."
"That is very understandable," you say and lean back into the chair, feeling a bit like a therapist with an immorally large bulge in your pants. "But don't you think you could find a very loyal fan, who'd do anything for you, have an NDA ready and go for it? Or maybe you could go out of country, where they don't know you? I bet you still have a lot of options, and with a pretty face like yours, you're bound to find more than enough people to fu-uck."
Yena pouts at you mocking her pronunciation.
"But that's a lot of effort and little guarantee. I want something reliable, in this country and I can’t wait any longer.”
"You want a relationship where you can trust the other person," you summarize. "So... what was your goal with all this? We don't know each other and I'm in a relationship with Yujin. I don't get this from you point of view."
"I-I, it's just that I—I need someone with experience to guide me through this. And I have seen Yujin, her happiness, her smile, the glow around her. That's a woman that has good sex all the time, so please, tell me your secret."
"I'm the secret, Yena. Do you want to take me from Yujin?" You stand up straight, face stern as Yena looks up at you, helpless and needy. "Finish up your milkshake, we'll take this somewhere else. Don't forget your present."
#
You picked out a nearby hotel, actually the first one that crossed your eyesight. As is often the case, you underestimated how high end these places can actually be. You already consider making this your home for the week your flat becomes unlivable. Minju won’t say anything against it, Yujin though might want something even more posh and polished.
Good thing that you decided to wear that brown thousand dollar suit that makes you look like a mixture between gangster and manager, otherwise bringing a fully costumed stranger with you would have been an eye raiser. Now you're just some less important person bringing a celebrity to their room.
But it's your room, your money, your decision what’s about to happen. Yena walks in after you and stands in the middle of the vast, cozy room, adorned with all kinds of paintings, a carpet on a wooden floor, an impeccable color scheme from the darkest of brown to a soft beige. You sit down on the bed and look at the still dressed idol expectantly.
"Hm, which present do you want to open first: mine or yours?" you ask her, voice in deep thought as Yena removes her glasses once more.
"I-I don't know what you mean by your present but I think I'll open this."
Yena taps the wrapped box nervously, hoping for some kind of reaction from your part, but you leave her hanging and after agonizing seconds she begins to rip into the colorful wrapping paper. Yena opens the lid beneath and her eyes open wide.
"I know what you want, Yena. Don't underestimate me. Be blunt, be honest, most importantly,
"Be my good little pet, hm?"
Yena takes deep breaths when she pulls out a long, silver chain with a leather handle on one end and her favorite collar on the other. There is more inside it though: a pink feeding bowl with a cute kitten on it as well as a bullet vibrator, its cord and remote and a thigh strap.
Yena drops the box and most items on the creme carpet when you put her chin between two of your fingers and tilt it up. She looks dreamy, you must have hit the spot to activate endless sexual possibilities and the urge to succumb to them right now. Honestly, you too have always wondered what it would be like to have a pet cat and now she is right here, ready to purr for you.
"What are you?" you ask, quietly, firmly, unmistakable power in your eyes. Yena melts in your fingers.
"Masters... good pet."
"Very good. After I have opened up my present, I expect my kitten to get into character. Because that is what good kittens do."
Without ever breaking eye contact, you begin to pop open the buttons of Yena's overcoat until it's time for the zipper to open up the curtains. In the meantime Yena loses her hat—maybe her mind along with it. You are in no rush to have her bare before you, after all, you left the world of haste and constant work behind. It's time to indulge in this thrilling moment, feel every second of this new life.
"Wow, what a beautiful kitten I have," you coo when you look at the skimpy stage outfit on Yena's body, a radical contrast to the all covering black of her overcoat which is thrown behind the bed. The shortest of white shorts and a crop top that barely fits her are all that's left to hide Yena's private parts.
"Now, how about I give my kitten the proper accessories, hm? C'mon, get the collar."
She is in a bit of a daze, your kitten, clumsily bowing down and reaching for the chain. Before she can straighten her back, you kick it out of her hand, and sigh deeply in disappointment.
"No, no, no, not like that. Get it like the little kitten you are."
The kick had her stunned, hurt a bit even, but now she knows what to do. Teaching your pet how to behave properly comes first, before any fun tricks can be trained. Yena begins to kneel and crawls to the collar. She picks the leather handle up with her teeth and carries it to you.
"Good girl, you've done very well." Your praise comes with another reward. The tips of your fingers begin to scratch and tickle Yena's chin and she calmly purrs, lays her cheek into your hand, fuck, she isn't even cat coded anymore—
—she is living this.
"Kitten, I have many obligations, you know? Caring for Yujin is a handful too. But you, you'll be a good kitten for your Master, won't you? You'll never cause me any trouble, right?”
Yena responds with rapid nods. From her point of view, you are doing her a huge favor, with or without the approval of Yujin. She thinks you are taking risks and loves you for it. Her devotion is only natural, so you happily offer her a couple of fingers to suck on.
While Yena indulges in getting her drool all over your fingers, you get the tight collar around her throat. It's a good thing that she already sent you this one, a different kind might not have been such a perfect fit. This one looks so natural on her and the thin chain is a great addition.
"My kitten has fine taste. I think she deserves some belly rubs."
If she had a tail, Yena would probably swing it around in excitement. She won't go long without one, you already have plans of buying hundreds of toys for her—well, okay, these "plans" are just now forming, you’ll have to adjust the shopping list later—and a tail is at the top of that list.
Purrs when Yena rolls over playfully, her arms and feet stretched away from her like paws and thanks to that crop top, you have perfect access to her midriff. The moment you touch her navel, she unexpectedly kicks upwards, right into your chest. A stinging pain, one you have to swallow down with a heavy gulp. That's how they are, wild, young, untrained pets.
Nevertheless, they have to be taught properly. A good punishment is an essential part of their training.
"Some lying pet you are!” you snap at her. “How fucking dare you kick your Master!"
Yena wanted to make a deal with the devil, a deal to be your pet. Unlike Minju or even Hyewon, she wants to be your literal property, not your girl, property and not a human. The treatment has to match the deal.
You easily lift the petrified idol-turned-kitten off the ground and place her bend over on your lap. Yena's cute, firm little butt is in your striking zone, while she desperately turns to face you. You hook a finger into her waistband and pull her shorts down to the folds of her asscheeks.
"Are you sorry, Kitten, for kicking your Master?" you ask Yena with a deeply judging tone. She nods with a deeply sorry expression. "Say that you're sorry!"
"I-I'm sorry, Master. I was a dumb kitten." Not enough meows in that sentence, but you will work on that later.
"What do you think you deserve now, kitten?"
"I de-deserve to be punished by Master.”
"That is right, kitten." You barely touch Yena's butt with the tips of your fingers, and she is already stiffening, readying for impact. To her surprise, your digits rather gently dig into her small cheeks and massage them in preparation. "But are you really sorry?"
"Yes, Master, yes I am—ah!"
The first hit always stings the most, to the point where involuntary tears stream down one's face and lips quiver uncontrollably. You don't let your hand rest on the red spot, instead lifting it up and striking again to make Yena's butt sore all over.
"You don't mean these words. I will have to hit you more."
"N-no, please!" Yena tries to push her upper body up but you make sure to keep her down, pinned to your thighs. "Master, I really, really am sorry!"
Another slap, straight on the same spot, enough to make Yena squirm out a pained meow. In the ensuing set of a dozen hits, six on each beautiful ass cheek, your kitten winces more and more, like a cat hurt in the wild. It tugs at your heart strings, surprisingly, but you continue regardless. When the set is finished, your fingers travel down Yena’s creek to her pussy.
"Do you like to be hit, kitten?" you ask calmly, two fingers gliding across Yena's labia, finding her clit. Yena purrs and shakes her head. "Do you think you need more punishment?"
"No, Master. Please, stop. I'll be a good kitten for you. I’m sorry."
Those dreamy, teary, glassy eyes—could they ever lie?
"I believe you.” A small pat on her head. “God, you are very cute, your hair is so silky and your little entrance is already getting wet." You remove your digits and show the tiny strings of arousal that remain in between when you spread them before her eyes.
You take your time, again, no reason to rush. Climb on the bed, watch Yena rest on her knees before it. A light tug at the chain and Yena gets it. Today, she'll be allowed on the bed, just for this special occasion.
"Thank you, Master," she purrs and you comb through the pink, smooth hair. You give her a final smile before getting behind her. Belts and pants have never stopped you from getting what you need, to the point you'll probably disregard them entirely in the future.
This future in your home, with all these girls; Yujin and Minju already live there, Eunbi and Hyewon will surely follow. Chaewon is a wild card, probably a couple of sessions away from any commitment. And then there is Yena.
Will she commit to being your pet full time? Or is this a one off thing for her, to get rid of all the sexual tension you feel on her soaked and hot pussy lips that graze your tip? The extent of her kink is still a mystery to you.
"Relax, my little kitten, here comes your favorite cock.”
How can she know if this is her favorite? It's been ages since something this big and girthy has spread her open, pushed past any tension and made her feel full. Comparing this to those she had in the past is impossible—but not because of the difference in time or position or foreplay.
The comparison fails because your massiveness makes Yena's brain short circuit. All stages of humanity and human behavior are shut off; when your tip presses against her cervix, she goes straight to purring, meowing more than moaning.
Yena is incredibly tight, mostly because this is the first time she has something so big inside her, you assume, so you give her time for adjustments, slow movements, even slower rubs on her back, then her belly.
"Let's get rid of this." And you do get rid of her top, see her small breasts jiggle, the tiny, hard nipples too, when Yena is ready to move on her own.
Her kitten butt moves in a mesmerizing dance, not only a linear back and forth, but a subtle shimmy from side to side. You get to see your cock glazed in her sweet juice, then it disappears in that cavern again. Up to this point, you're just kneeling behind your kitten, undressing further and further, sometime pulling the chain to get her back into that doggy position—it seems that she likes the slow fuck.
"You are such a good kitten," you groan and lean towards Yena's ear until she can't push backwards anymore. "What do you say, next time we're alone, you get some ears and a tail?"
"Bu-but Master," Yena murmurs, face now in the mattress because you start pushing yourself into her. "What about Yujinnie, your girlfriend?"
"Don't you want to stay with us? Get head pats from my good baby girl too?"
Don't give her time to think about it. This revelation of your open and rather complex relationship might have been too early. So thrust harder into her and make the entire bed shake, her brain a useless mush. Yena's toes curl as she bites the sheets below her and lifts her ass a bit higher for easier access. She gets wetter and tighter, a clear sign of enjoyment, of thrill that is soon to be bliss.
Without warning you yank at the chain. Yena chokes hard, quickly getting back into the doggy position which you immediately use to fuck her roughly against the backboard of the bed.
The chain in your hand, the thought of a personal pet and its snug cunt make you greedy for your own orgasm which always comes before hers, however only in terms of relevance. Yena has finally adjusted to your width, length and the harsh grip you exert on her collar. She drools and purrs, until an ultimate, mindless scream leaves her mouth. Her knees begin to buckle as she cums on your length, that pistoning length, in and out of her cunt, completely disregarding her sensitivity.
"Oh, looks like my kitten is wetting herself. Look, you're ruining the sheets! Such a dumb little pet."
Yena doesn't even hear the taunting. She holds onto some pillows, then the backboards, as you applaude her for the resilience by fucking faster and making the pelvis on ass sounds louder and louder.
"Me-me-meow~" Yena's irises disappear in her head. The idol has fully become your kitten; in due time to you surrendering to the tight grip of her cunt by cumming. A day's worth of semen, directly into her womb, and you tell yourself that she is safe today. She has to be, otherwise she wouldn't have agreed to your dick inside her.
"Ma-Master, so much," Yena breathes and her paws try to remove all the sticky hair from her sweaty face.
"You better not spill it on the sheets, kitty. Keep it inside your pussy, all of it." You pull out and immediately get up close with the pink snatch. Yena clenches her muscle, trying to force her pussy to stay shut.
"So, so much—I can't ho-old it!"
With that said, Yena loses some of your precious cream. She just lets it fall out of her in an incredibly lewd display that has you smiling at her embarrassed expression. In a scramble of genius and horniness, you find the bullet vibrator and shove it inside Yena’s cunt before she can ruin more of the bed. Her ensuing moan is music to your ears.
"I guess my kitten is not yet potty trained. We need to change that as soon as we can.
"Wouldn’t you agree?"

Alexander Miles, a prominent African-American inventor of the late 19th century, is best known for his groundbreaking invention - elevator doors that could open and close automatically. This invention transformed the safety of elevator rides, with automatic doors now considered a standard feature in modern elevators.
Born on May 18, 1838, in Circleville, Ohio, Alexander Miles was the son of Michael and Mary Miles. As a young adult, he relocated to Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he worked as a barber throughout the 1860s. It was while living in Winona, Minnesota, in 1870, that he met Candace J. Dunlap from New York City, who later became his wife. After the birth of their daughter, Grace, the family moved to Duluth, Minnesota.
In Duluth, Miles enjoyed significant success as a barber, setting up a barbershop in the four-story St. Louis Hotel. He smartly invested his savings into purchasing a real estate office. His business acumen led to him becoming the first Black member of the Duluth Chamber of Commerce. In 1884, Miles constructed a three-story brownstone building in an area that later came to be known as the “Miles Block.”
While taking elevator rides in his buildings, Miles noticed the dangerous risks associated with manually operated elevator shaft doors being left open. Determined to solve this problem, he invented a mechanism that allowed elevator shaft doors to operate at the correct times. The mechanism, which involved a flexible belt attached to the elevator cage touching drums positioned along the elevator shaft, automated the elevator doors through a series of levers and rollers. On October 11, 1887, Alexander Miles was granted a patent for his life-saving invention (U.S. Patent 371,207).
In 1899, Miles and his family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he started The United Brotherhood, a life insurance company for Black customers who were denied coverage by White-owned firms. Eventually, Miles relocated to Seattle, Washington. Prior to his death on May 7, 1918, he was considered the wealthiest Black person in the Pacific Northwest area, largely due to the income from his invention. In recognition of his contributions, Alexander Miles was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2007.

Forget-Me-Not 1
Warnings: non/dubcon, and other dark elements. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Characters: Loki
Summary: You return to your childhood home to put the past to rest.
Part of the Backwoods AU
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging.
You never really thought of Hammer Ford as home. You only ever tried to forget it and the turbulent years of your childhood. You let the memories haze away with the chaos of the urban rush. Office doors and honking cars easily overwrote the map work of your mind. A less than glamorous life, but peaceful. That’s all you ever wanted.
Your return is inevitable. You knew that. For years, you outran that fact. One day, you would need to face those dusty rural roads and the whispers in the wind. That day has come despite your stubbornness. A week after the news came and you could find no other excuse to stay away.
Not home, just the past. A piece of you you can’t erase. A shame you’ll never fully shake.
The welcome sign, beneath an iron statue of a hammer on a cloud, marks the village edge. You grip the wheel tighter and swallow dryly. Your bladder aches from the coffee you chugged after the last rest stop. You still have some ways to go.
Funny to think that despite its sprawling roads sparse layout, that the populace is so tight knit, the small hamlet untouched by the world outside. The same red barn up on the hill, the gate of the Grove in all its resplendence, and the short strip of businesses before the earth rolls into hills and flattens to fields.
You steer off into the northeast. The Maps app stopped working a few miles back. You don’t need the automated voice to guide you. It all comes back to you so clearly. Just around this curve and behind the barn, there’s the old path behind the Berrys. On and on, behind the overgrown brush to the house by the river.
Your tires mulch in the dirt as you brake. You shift and shut off the engine, looking out at the peeling wooden facade. The house was once a cottage in the glory days of the village, then it was passed along until your parents’ signed the deed. By that time, it was already derelict.
It hasn’t gotten better. The windows are cracked and dusty, the door splintered, and the front steps crooked. You get out and cross your arms, breathing in the damp forest air.
You feel nothing looking up at that shit hole. You thought the sight of it would bring the flood, but nothing. You shake your head. They said your mother was found in the kitchen, at the table with a bottle of vodka. You never expected anything different for her. At last, she’ll be happy. She’s off to see your father again.
You approach the porch but can’t make yourself climb the steps. There’s something blocking, some unseen wall. You just want to turn around, get in the car, and pretend it’s all a dream. Just like you had for all those years.
You lean your head back and blow out through your lips. Eventually you’ll have to go inside. You need sleep. You could curl up in your backseat again but your hips are ragged from last night. You’re supposed to meet Jan tomorrow. He’s got a casket ready and then you have to go to the church to discuss the service. You don’t think they’ll be much of one.
The hotel isn’t an option. Not for you.
As you glare up at the front door, you hear snapping sticks and the hum of another engine. You turn and watch the dark shadow slowly rolling between the trees. The forest green car turns in just behind your bumper and idles as you squint at the tinted windshield.
A curious villager isn’t unexpected. Everyone probably knows old Nadia is dead. You just hoped they’d leave you alone, at least until tomorrow.
You cross your arms and steel yourself. The driver’s door opens and a tall man steps out, his imperious nose sniffing the scent of river water and crinkling. Your chest feels as if it might gave in as his emerald eyes meet yours.
Loki Odinson. The last person you expected. The last person you ever wanted to run into. He turns and opens the back door of the car, reaching in and pulling out a basket of flowers. Your temper curdles up to the back of your throat. How dare he?
“My mother and father send their condolences,” he shuts the door and strides across the dirt. You look down at his leather shoes, should he be dirtying them here?
You just stare at him. You have no words, not that you’re much of a talker. What is there to say? Your mother’s dead and you’re stuck dealing with this dirt hole.
“Hm,” he angles past you and puts the basket on the top step, “should brighten the place up.”
You keep your arms crossed as you stare at him. He looks at you again, his eyes flickering, as if he’s surprised by your gaze. He just remembers the girl who kept her head down, the one with no voice and no backbone.
“Very sorry to hear it. Rather sad way to go. All alone.”
“Tell your parents, it’s appreciated,” you turn and march up the steps, dropping your arms.
You hear a scrape and shift to peek at his silhouette from the corner of your eye. He has his foot propped on the lowest step. The porch groans loudly under your weight.
“And I drove all the way here,” he says.
You shrug. You didn’t ask or expect it. That isn’t your problem.
He’s silent, waiting. He’s just like the rest of Hammer Ford, he hasn’t changed. He’s still the spoiled brat awaiting his prize. Well, you haven’t got one for him. You have nothing for him, no tears, no anger, just indifference.
“I see,” he says at last, “you must be tired from the road, no doubt. Of course, you’ve just lost a parent, I can hardly expect glowing conversation… not that I ever did from you.”
You don’t flinch. You go to the front door and pull out the key you dug out of your old jewelry box. It still works. You let yourself in as the hinges whine loudly. You don’t look back as you let the door clatter shut behind you.
There’s a lull before you hear the engine flip and hum. You stand, listening, waiting for him to be gone. Just like when you were young, hiding behind that door from that boy. Well, you’re both grown now.

Runners
(science fiction, 1100 words)
It’s the end of the fiscal year. Hunting season has begun.
Ultimately, it all kicked off with the invention of the “workplace transparency plan.” As ad revenue stagnated, social platforms instead offered corporate clients access to their employees’ private messages. For a small subscription fee, employers could learn who their workers were communicating with and retaliate as they saw fit.
Within months, an entire industry of talent recruiters found themselves stonewalled by a terrified workforce. With electronic communication lost to them, the recruiters — far behind on their quotas — resorted to more drastic methods.
Strive Solutions is a midsize software company on the third floor of a converted building in the old warehouse district. Its two vintage elevators are too old to support ID card readers, so a pair of security doors flanking the reception area are all that stand between potential intruders and Strive’s inner sanctum.
A few minutes past 3:00 in the afternoon, both elevators open and the mob piles out.
Runners always raid in force, the better to overwhelm any on-site security. Where once the typical recruiter was a bland, nonthreatening thirtysomething in business-casual pastels, now they trend toward linebackers’ builds and stab vests. Those who aren’t the general size and shape of a refrigerator are the most dangerous of all — quick, clever, and vicious.
Not one of them is over the age of 30. Running is a youngster’s game.
The security doors are RFID-locked, but made of glass. Somebody puts a boot through one of them, and the runners barely slow as they stampede through.
The bulk of Strive’s employees work in an open-plan area referred to as “the Pit” whenever management isn’t around. The runners swarm through it with ease, unhindered by hallways or doors, vaulting over desks and chairs when they need to.
Certain pieces of equipment are standard. Every runner carries a tablet, ruggedized to withstand all sorts of abuse and equipped with a fingerprint scanner. A simple swipe of a new recruit’s thumb and the contract is sealed, filed instantly with their new employer. Signatures were once the preferred endorsement, before someone realized a fingerprint was valid even if the owner of said finger was unconscious.
Most of the runners also carry weapons, usually truncheons or collapsible batons. Those who don’t are about to learn that Strive’s CEO has a blacksmithing hobby and an office full of medieval weapons.
The rest of a runner’s arsenal varies with personal preference.
Barry Duboc, like most of his colleagues, goes for the easy money: junior employees who are easily seduced by playground offices and extravagant launch parties, and are easily intimidated into signing anything put in front of them. Clients don’t pay much for cannon fodder like this, but Barry makes up the difference in volume.
Inside a military surplus document holder, its metal edges filed razor sharp, Barry carries photos of his client’s break lounge — stuffed wall-to-wall with vintage arcade games — and a laminated copy of their dense recreational calendar. Before long he’s herded a sizable number of impressionable young programmers away from the safety of their fellows.
A few yards away, a 6’7” runner with tattooed sclera and brass knuckles on both hands sinks his teeth into the earlobe of a production intern.
Seasoned runners like Tom Saunders know where the real money is: senior developers, not so easily swayed by treats, parties, or threats.
Tom never goes on a run without a copy of his client’s benefits package, a breakdown of their flexible working policy, and a stun gun. This time, though, Tom’s got a secret weapon: his client operates out of a refurbished boutique hotel and offers private offices to its senior employees. The promise of working behind a door that can close attracts two senior web developers, one production manager, and an automation engineer.
Shelly Fleming is a virtuoso; she glides through the bedlam of the Pit like a shark through a school of fish. Painstaking research, careful maneuvering, and perfect timing have brought her here, today, for one target alone.
Over the weekend, Strive’s lead software architect posted anonymously online about her struggles at work since transitioning. Unfortunately, the post went viral and a characteristic turn of phrase gave her away. She was summoned to Strive’s HR department ten minutes ago for a lecture on “undermining the company’s public image.”
Shelly bursts into the room with a six-figure contract and her client’s novel-length Diversity & Inclusion policy. If the architect took the time to actually read the policy, she’d quickly realize it was crafted with great care to serve as a flawless legal and political shield while entitling the company’s employees to no actual protection or recourse from discrimination. But time isn’t a luxury she has anymore.
She winds up at the center of a tug of war between Shelly and the HR manager, whose brightly painted nails carve deep lines into the architect’s arm as Shelly drags her from the room.
Of course, Strive has invested in countermeasures. An expensive renovation over the holidays transformed the entire office into a Faraday cage, ensuring no wireless signals can go in or out. The runners’ contracts are all hosted on a remote web service; they must get their prizes out of the building.
Barry ushers his pack of recruits back through reception, but the elevators take precious seconds to arrive and more to depart. Strive’s two security guards beat several of the defecting juniors unconscious before they can escape, and a particularly zealous manager drags another from the elevator as the doors close.
Tom knows better, and heads for the stairs; unfortunately, the route to the stairwell leads past Strive’s executive suite. He loses one of his recruits to a flying tackle from the COO, who adorns his desk with high school football trophies.
Shelly cased the office in advance. She leads the architect to an old fire escape at the far end of the floor, near the server room. The windows are locked, but a quick blow from Shelly’s collapsible baton and they’re both home free, clambering down the side of the building.
As quickly as it started, it’s all over.
Of the dozens of workstations arrayed throughout the Pit, almost half now sit empty. Broken glass and loose papers lie scattered across the floor, alongside a few office chairs knocked over in the chaos. Strive’s remaining workers peer uncertainly from beneath their desks.
A light breeze wafts through the shattered window.
Strive’s CEO storms and rages for an hour, cursing the disloyalty of his former employees. Then, shutting himself in his office, he places a call to his own recruiter.

Batman: Dark Victory #2: Secrets
Read Date: July 26, 2023 Cover Date: January 2000 ● Writer: Jeph Loeb ● Penciler: Tim Sale ● Inker: Time Sale ● Colorist: Gregory Wright ● Letterer: Richard Starkings ● Editor: Mark Chiarello ●
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
● art is a little meh but the story is excellent ● 👏👏👏👏👏
Synopsis: In an attempt to gain more insight into the Hangman, Batman interrogates the Riddler, as the killer seems to share his penchant for leaving behind clues to his identity. He gives the Riddler a copy of the newspaper clipping pinned to Chief O'Hara's body, and tells him to study it and to contact him when he has something.
Gordon receives a visit from his predecessor, Gil Loeb, who harbors some bitterness over being removed from office. Gordon got lucky with Holiday, as his victims were cheap hoods, but now that there is a cop killer on their hands, the City Council has doubts about Gordon's effectiveness. Gordon tells Loeb that he earned his position, whereas Loeb lost it in a cesspool of corruption and graft. Loeb chides Gordon for his naivety, telling him to not to get too comfortable in the Commissioner's chair, he'll be getting it back soon.
At the Batcave, Batman is poring over the forensic data from O'Hara's murder. O'Hara's neck wasn't broken like in a traditional hanging, and he was hoisted from the ground in a manner that precluded him from putting up any sort of fight. This suggests that the killer has tremendous physical strength, or is utilizing strategically placed automated traps. Batman tells Alfred he cannot be certain, as Porter's refusal to work with him has limited his access to police evidence. He is now suspecting that Two-Face has a hand in the recent events, but he was wrong about Holiday, he cannot afford to be wrong again. Alfred reminds him that even Batman is capable of making mistakes, and Bruce confides that he was close to sharing his secret to Harvey. He wonders if things would have been different if he had been more trusting.
Mario summons Gordon and Porter to his father's gravesite, noting that the disappearance of his body has his sister on edge. He is willing to work with the police to prove that he is sincere about cleaning up his family's reputation. Their meeting is interrupted by Sofia, Mr. Mirti, and two armed bodyguards. Sofia tells Mario that since Gordon cannot protect his own men, he cannot be entrusted with the safety of her family. The gunmen with her are private investigators who are licensed to carry firearms, and they have a judge to back that up. After the Falcones leave, Porter apologizes to Gordon for dragging him into this. She knows about his marital problems, and it's not her intention to make things worse for him at work. Gordon acknowledges they may have gotten off on the wrong foot, and asks Porter if she has any plans for Thanksgiving dinner. Porter reveals that she does, despite being too new in town to form any real friendships.
At the Falcone estate, Alberto is smoking a cigarette in his private study when he hears a disembodied voice, who tells him that he cannot stop now, or they will forget about him. Alberto frantically searches the room for the source of the voice, but finds nothing.
Porter is sleeping at the Hotel Essex, when a mysterious stranger makes his way to her room. She has been expecting him, and the two make love. Meanwhile, Selina Kyle has Thanksgiving dinner with Bruce and Alfred.
The Riddler summons Batman with a demented parody of the Batsignal, revealing what he's found out about the newspaper clipping. He offers a brief explanation to the rules of the Hangman puzzle, noting that it cannot be played alone. More than likely, there are two killers at work.
Loeb is hanged in his home. Stationery from Harvey Dent's office is pinned to his shirt, featuring a second Hangman puzzle, which spells out "Two can play this game."

note 2: what's the word? no...not grief (tw: descriptions of grief, parental death, descriptions of drowning)
The flight was gloomy. He’d set it for the evening, on purpose, he needed the entire day to mentally prepare for it. Sleep evaded him, Dae’s words sounded like they were trying to fight through oceans of water to get to his ears, he just felt numb. Maybe, that wasn’t the word for it, it wasn’t, and honestly he’d spent the entire two days of preparations trying to find another word to replace it. He found none, and guessed those scholarship private schools weren’t worth a damn. That’s also what he kept doing, finding problems and tossing the blame on someone else, as if Chicago’s finest schools could help him magically pull a non-existent word to describe something as evasive as human emotions in the times of what he guessed was…grief.
saturday, march 20th 1:27am KST (approx. friday, march 19th 11:27am central standard time)
His phone buzzing had never startled him awake so hard in the night. Nine times out of ten if you were trying to get a hold of Malachi post blunt on an off day, you’ll be hearing from him the following business day, if he felt like socializing. But this call felt like a hard knock on your door, one you know is insidious pounding meant to wake the home's occupants on the first knock. He scrambled to answer, fumbling for the vibrating iPhone in the darkness trying desperately to grab it before Dae could begin stirring next to him.
“Hello?” Croaked from his tired throat and before he could really collect his barings a disappointed and stern tone began rattling off his speech like an automated line,
“Hello there, this is officer Anthony Jackson with the Chicago Police Department, I’m looking to contact the next of kin for a Ji-min S-suh-,” he cut him off, “Soh.” “Yes, Soh my apologies, I guess it was fairly simple but,” next of kin? Suddenly that aching feeling he’d felt all day rushed back, “Yeah, yeah what’s up, h-how can I help you? Is she in jail? How much is the bail and can someone escort her home?” He was getting annoyed now.
“Well no sir, um bail won't be needed, we were calling to inform you that a neighbor called for a well-fair check from us and upon entering found her deceased sir.” Kai hadn’t meant to laugh, he didn’t, and the uncomfortable grunt from the officer that came from the other end of the line should have told him to stop the low chuckling he’d begun.
“I’m sorry fuck, you’ve got the right lady right?” His words were only met with a firm ‘mm-hm’. “I guess, I what…what do I do now to identify the body? Arrange a funeral, don’t know who’s fucking coming to that what?” He assumed the officer cut him off because he probably sounded insane. “Well we’re taking her down to the Cook County morgue and she’ll get checked out with an autopsy if that’s what you want.” “Yeah sure.” “Oookay, and then you’ll come down and identify and what you do after well sir it's up to you. They’ll call you with the details but make arrangements to leave if you’re out of the country based on your phone number.”
The rest was null and void, that's when things started to become the seven seas. Swimming, just swimming through preparations, TSA, baggage claim. Hotel, moms place, morgue, moms place, hotel, flight back to Korea. It was all so fucking fast but he still felt like he was fucking swimming. An hour for him was days for everyone else and he still couldn’t figure out the word to describe it.
And after a while he’d put it behind him, enjoyed his hiatus, and then insurance called and suddenly he was wondering what to do with the little money she had and left him. He guessed he could say he was grateful that she’d even thought about doing it in the first place but all he could think about was swimming. It wasn’t aimless any more…there was something suddenly bright beginning to peek over the waters edge. But it was so far and it seemed to run from him just as sleep had since he was startled awake months ago. He had to reach it. He had to…or he’d drown in it. The confusion, the loss, the grief, the inability to articulate and understand, it’d all fill his lungs in one swift go, hardening like cement and weighing him down to the black ocean floor, but that sounded more blissful than swimming any longer.

TITLE: PrismNET Asia-Pacific Leaders Symposium: Launch of the 319 Global Service Center Initiative
On May 7th, the PrismNET Asia-Pacific Leaders’ Symposium was successfully held at the Cordis Hotel in Hong Kong, bringing together service center heads and community leaders from various countries and regions within Asia-Pacific to discuss the expansive plans for PrismNET. At the event, Marlik Luno, the Chairman of PrismNET Global Development Committee and Chief Operating Officer, welcomed the representatives of the Asia-Pacific community and outlined the development plans for the upcoming months. Luno highlighted the current global societal transformation characterized by significant shifts in productivity. PrismNET is at the forefront of this transformation, leading the development in the AIGC artificial intelligence industry. The company has addressed the industry’s core challenge of GPU power supply for energy in artificial intelligence, having upgraded 13 GPU power clusters globally with a total capacity reaching 1100P. Furthermore, the platform is developing the PrismNET Chain (PNC), a global distributed power cluster blockchain network aimed at consolidating idle and redundant GPU power for scheduling and distribution, thus maximizing the application value of individual GPU capacities.
Subsequently, Tomy Tang, from the Platform Education and Development Committee, analyzed the current state and future value of the AI+DePin industry track for the leaders. He discussed how PrismNET positions itself as the first platform globally to implement an AI+Web3.0 ecosystem. The platform’s GPU power leasing service has already provided cost-effective energy solutions for more AI enterprises. Using AI for content publication, data streaming, and automated sales through e-commerce server rooms built around the world, along with matrixed account operations, the platform has achieved over $7000 in sales profit per account on TikTok, demonstrating the deep application of AI in e-commerce.
Following this, William delved into an in-depth analysis of PrismNET’s business model and its long-term value prospects. Many community leaders expressed that PrismNET’s business model fully meets everyone’s market expectations and that this mechanism is adaptable to various market conditions, ensuring the best possible outcomes for business expansion. The business model, being a core element of project development, features low barriers to entry, high returns, vast potential for imagination, scalability, user-friendliness, and strong promotional drive, which are significant characteristics of the PrismNET model.
During the banquet, the platform made a major announcement with the launch of PriamAI, an AI short video tool tailored for C-end users, integrating functions like IP creation, graphic generation, video conversion, and digital human cloning. PrismAI provides numerous entrepreneurs with powerful tools for easy use. Additionally, users can utilize PNC for exchanges to enhance their experience significantly, also greatly boosting PNC’s circulation and application value within the ecosystem.
At the banquet, the 319 Global Service Center Plan was announced, which, through the strong support of salons and sharing sessions, aids in the business development of service centers in various regions and rapidly propagates PrismNET’s vast ecosystem in the market. The banquet also recognized outstanding service centers for April, with Chief Operating Officer Luno personally distributing awards to the winners. Additionally, the development and evaluation plans for the community in May and a preview of the PrismNET Global Elite International Symposium scheduled for June were announced.
During this meeting, leaders from the Wutong Community and Xinxin International Community shared their experiences, insights, and market development strategies deeply with the attendees, setting goals and resolutions for May. All leaders present reached a high consensus to strive with full effort to discuss, build, share, and win together, and to collaborate in developing a grand industry ecosystem alongside the platform.

Oh yeah, you're right, 14 years of my life working with the public across cafes, restaurants, hotels, hostels, cinema, bookstores, theatres and box offices and I haven't encountered enough rude customers lmao.
Humans SHOULD do this job. Maybe you think people will suddenly be normal and chill and have no stupid questions because they aren't facing a human.
The difference is that I think retail workers should be far better compensated.
Digital tills aren't AI. They're just basic ass software. There's no need for an LLM or an art thief AI to be stuffed in there.
The people you would still have in store with a "differen role" are STILL retail workers and they will STILL be dealing with customers, some of them unhappy, and all of them asking questions from the human rather than the smart till. They'll need to refill the shelves and clean the store and write recommendations and make big spenders feel special.
Thinking in terms of scifi and dreaming up a society in which AI is capable of doing my job better than me, while we're all on some golden universal income, is detrimental to everyone.
AI bros are more than happy to sell the idea of AI as replacement to workers, even if they then have to turn around and completely lie about it and actually have their AI be a bunch of Indian workers!!!
Meanwhile, no government I know of is actually interested in giving me universal income that pays for all my rent, bills, and leaves me enough to enjoy myself besides. They're not willing to fully train me for a better, AI safe job.
And do you know what? Retail sucks because of shitty managers and insane store rules more than rude customers.
I spent years selling books and it was an awesome job. I loved my colleagues and I enjoyed making displays, writing reviews, reading lots of books ahead of publications so I could excitedly recommend. Nothing tickled me more than pitching the perfect recommendation for someone looking for their next reading club book or finding what would work for the christmas present of a young niece not reading enough.
And NOTHING beat the joy of that same guy, back in early January, looking for me across the shop so he could come and brightly thank me, because the graphic novel I sold him about a girl doing ice skatting besides school drama captivated his niece and she's now jumped into reading YA novels.
People remembering me months after and coming for ME because they trusted my recommendations. People gifting us boxes of chocolate for the staff to enjoy. People thanking us with tears in their eyes because we organised an event and they just got to shake hands with their absolute favourite author.
You think I'd want to give ANY of this to AI when AI 1/can't do it, and 2/I could just enjoy doing this with better hours and better pay if only the government can be curb stomped into caring for us?
Don't even come at me with the "not all retail--" angle. Lots of people enjoy lots of different things, and ALL retail workers should be better paid and have better rights, and automation (not AI necessarily) should always be a tool that helps instead of a tool that replaces, so long as society isn't ready for a mass replacement of a vital low-level education work force.

Future Trends in Travel and Property Management: What Next?
The intersection of travel and property management is experiencing unprecedented transformation thanks to technological advances, changing consumer preferences, and global shifts. Primarily, these changes also influence how people live and work.
As we look ahead, several key future trends in travel and property management are reshaping these interconnected industries. Let's explore the innovations and changes defining the next travel and property management era.
Digital Transformation and Smart Properties
IoT Integration and Automated Management
The Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionizing property management by enabling seamless automation and monitoring. Smart locks, thermostats, and security systems are becoming standard features in vacation rentals and managed properties.
Property managers can now remotely control and monitor multiple properties through centralized dashboards, reducing operational costs while improving guest experiences.
AI-Powered Property Management Systems
Artificial Intelligence is streamlining operations by automating routine tasks and providing predictive maintenance insights. AI algorithms can analyze patterns in equipment usage, predicting potential failures before they occur and scheduling preventive maintenance. This proactive approach not only reduces costs but also ensures uninterrupted guest experiences.
Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Solutions
Green Building Technologies
Sustainability is no longer optional but essential. Property managers are increasingly investing in energy-efficient systems, solar panels, and innovative water management solutions. These investments reduce operational costs and appeal to environmentally conscious travelers who prioritize sustainable accommodations.
Waste Reduction and Circular Economy
Properties are implementing comprehensive recycling programs and moving towards zero-waste operations. From biodegradable amenities to composting systems, the focus is on minimizing environmental impact while maximizing resource efficiency.
Flexible Living and Working Spaces
Rise of Digital Nomad-Friendly Properties
The remote work revolution has created demand for properties that cater to digital nomads. Future-forward properties incorporate dedicated workspaces, high-speed internet, and community areas facilitating work and networking opportunities.
Hybrid Spaces and Mixed-Use Properties
The lines between hotels, apartments, and office spaces are blurring. Property managers are adapting by creating flexible spaces for multiple purposes – from short-term vacation rentals to extended-stay workspaces. This adaptability allows properties to maximize occupancy and revenue streams.
Enhanced Guest Experiences
Personalization Through Data Analytics
Property managers are leveraging big data to understand guest preferences and deliver personalized experiences. From room temperature settings to activity recommendations, every aspect of the stay can be customized based on guest profiles and historical data.
Contactless and Mobile-First Services
The pandemic accelerated the adoption of contactless technologies, and this trend continues to evolve. Mobile check-in, digital keys, and smartphone-controlled room features are becoming industry standards rather than luxury additions.
Health and Wellness Integration
Advanced Sanitization Systems
Properties are investing in hospital-grade air filtration systems, UV sanitization, and antimicrobial surfaces. These health-focused improvements are no longer just responses to the pandemic but permanent features that guests expect.
Wellness Amenities and Programs
From in-room fitness equipment to meditation spaces, properties are incorporating wellness features to meet the growing demand for health-conscious travel experiences. Some properties are partnering with local wellness providers to offer exclusive programs for guests.
Financial Innovation
Blockchain and Smart Contracts
The adoption of blockchain technology is streamlining property transactions and rental agreements. Smart contracts are automating payment processes, security deposits, and contract enforcement, reducing administrative overhead and increasing transparency.
Alternative Payment Methods
Properties are expanding payment options to include cryptocurrencies and buy-now-pay-later services, making travel more accessible to different market segments while reducing payment processing costs.
Community Integration and Local Experiences
Local Partnership Programs
Property managers are developing stronger ties with local businesses and service providers to offer authentic experiences to guests. These partnerships create additional revenue streams while supporting local communities.
Cultural Programming and Events
Properties are becoming cultural hubs, hosting events and activities that connect guests with local communities. This approach not only enhances guest experiences but also creates stronger community relationships.
Regulatory Compliance and Security
Enhanced Data Protection
With increasing privacy regulations worldwide, property managers are investing in robust data protection systems to secure guest information and maintain compliance with evolving standards.
Dynamic Pricing and Revenue Management
Advanced algorithms are helping properties optimize pricing based on market conditions, demand patterns, and competitor analysis, ensuring maximum revenue while maintaining competitive rates.
Looking Ahead
The future of travel and property management is marked by integration – of technology, sustainability, and human experience. Success in this evolving landscape requires adaptability and a willingness to embrace innovation while focusing on guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Property managers who stay ahead of these trends will be better positioned to meet changing consumer demands and navigate industry challenges. The key lies in balancing technological advancement with personal touch, sustainability with profitability, and innovation with practical implementation.
As we move forward, the most successful properties will be those that can seamlessly blend these elements while maintaining operational efficiency and guest satisfaction. The future of travel and property management is not just about adopting new technologies or following trends – it's about creating meaningful experiences that resonate with modern travelers while building sustainable and profitable business models.

This applies to artist jobs as well. Most artists don't get paid to create wonderful new creative pieces of art, a lucky few get to do that as a career, if they do have a job in the arts it's usually one where they like make variations of the same 6 graphics over and over again for emails and ads that will only annoy people. But most just do regular jobs - they're gas station cashiers, hotel cleaning staff or office workers who look at spreadsheets and send emails all day.
The issue with machine learning isn't that it can replace jobs, computers and the internet itself have done a very good job of that on their own.
It's that we live in an era of ever-increasing automation but the capitalist class (as well as much of the working class) still clings to the idea of the 40 hour work week being sacred and necessary for everyone. A single worker with a computer can do more in 8 hours than 10 workers with pens and paper could do in a week. But does he get better compensation? Shorter hours? More vacation? Do the 9 workers who've been replaced by an Excel spreadsheet get UBI and the freedom to pursue their passions? No, nope, no and nope.
Technology isn't the enemy, capitalists are, and what we need is unions & working class solidarity so we can actually start working on a better future where people don't have to work a 9-5 at minimum just to live and we're fine letting machines to the dirty, boring, repetitive work.
This is the most important response to “AI is going to replace all the jobs”
