So umm I wanna start writing hxh stuff but I'm scared it'll be really ooc :(( I watched the whole anime, restarting it and I'm reading the Manga too so I know the personalities of the characters well but I'm still not confident I can portray it right... it would be super embarrassing if I post my first story/ headcanon and the comments i get are "they wouldnt say that" "they wouldnt do that" "that wouldnt happen" 😭the way you write characters sound so like them and I rlly wanna make hcs and stories like you so pls spill your secrets 🙏🙏 if it helps, the characters I think I'll be most writing for are the main 4, kalluto and alluka (they're so underrated!!) mb hisoka andddd silva & kikyo? (I kinda wanna make some cute scenarios w them like they go on a date or smthing 🥺 idk why) but ofc, I would love to learn how to write for the majority of the hxh characters. a/n~ so sorry if this sucks cause ive never given a tutorial for my writing but i will DO MY BEST

so you said you wanted to write cute scenarios of dates for the hxh main four+ hisoka, silva , and kikyo! first thing i usually consider when i get requests especially, or just when i have an idea, is: would this character even do this? like if someone asks me, “hey, can you write headcanons for illumi zoldyck with a soft/sweet/kind s/o?” that would be possible (though maybe a little far-fetched canonically). it’s fine to stretch those boundaries a bit for fanfiction, i think. but if that request had instead been like “can you write reader x soft/sweet/kind illumi?” that would’ve been a hard no. don’t alter characters’ natural personalities because then it’s not the same character. what sometimes helps me is, especially if i haven’t watched or read any media of the character im writing for in a while, is looking up the character’s wiki on the FANDOM site and reading through their personality traits as well as their key moments because it helps me to determine what the character would do in the story and how they might react to some things. feel free to also go back and look at clips of the anime or pages of the manga; i find it helps as well!

so for what you want to write specifically, cute dating scenarios, i think that most of the characters you’ve chosen are a good fit. the main four are good for a prompt like that, and the zoldyck children you’ve chosen can be fitting as well. but as for hisoka, kikyo, and silva, that kind of prompt might not fit so well because obviously these characters can’t be seen as sweet or kind or loving. has hisoka ever expressed any interest in wooing someone properly or is he someone who operates on lust? did kikyo and silva court each other and go on little dates or was their marriage probably arranged/forced/only useful for selfish purposes? do their personalities even allow for sentiments like dates? would they even consider that? before writing something ask yourself if you can really see the character doing that clearly in your mind.

i think it’s a great thing that you’ve watched and read the respective canon content of your characters, and it’s good to refer to it if you ever find yourself struggling to characterize someone accurately. however, it is fanfiction, so don’t feel like you need to be super rigid. write whatever you’d like, honestly. but here’s a really common thing i notice when people write fanfiction: they take one aspect of the character and run the shit into the ground. a prime example of this is hobie brown from across the spiderverse and his “i don’t believe in consistency” line. like Jesus Christ. well-written fictional characters, like the ones of hxh, are often as versatile as real people are. make sure the character doesn’t feel like some one-dimensional version of themselves, and please don’t write for the character only based on one aspect of their personality. for example, hisoka is rather unpredictable, so that’s something you’d probably want to incorporate into writings for him. but for characters like most of the zoldycks, you’re going to want to tread a little lighter since they aren’t the main characters and thus we don’t see a whole lot of them. in situations like this, you might have to focus on just what you can see of them. so again, just ask yourself if you can see the character really doing what you’re writing them to do. would they act that way in an actual episode of the anime or volume of the manga? if you’re unsure or the answer is no, try going a different route.

it is also okay to make mistakes. practicing a lot will eventually get you to where you want to be. i still find myself slipping up in my writings and getting carried away (so read over your writings before you publish them)!! my dms are open if you ever would like me personally to review a piece and offer maybe more specific advice!

(For example, Nodrian's older children are twin girls, one of them dating a boy and the other one dating a girl. Said boy and girl are leaders of their respective teams so ofc we had to create OCs for said teams)

However, the full reach of their power is that they can use it to travel to another dimensions, and by that I mean Terry can (and has) travel(ed) to all the other universes created by MM (TLC, Heartless, Instant Karma, Gilded...) as well as any of our AUs

Bc the only thing Dawnie and I love more than creating fanchildren, is creating AUs haha, so Terry often makes appearences in our fanfic/comic AUs

The characters from the main Renegades universe are aware of that, while their versions from the many AUs don't know Terry's not from their world

Terry specially loves crashing at the Teachers AU, where Nova & co + the Fortuna Beach gang are highchool students, while the Renegades Council, the Anarchists and the Rampion Crew are teachers, cuz that's the funniest AU Dawnie and I have created with all the characters from MM books lmao, our magnum opus 🤌

First of all: I'm EXTREMELY weak for trees full of primeval versions of emotions like love and hate (HELLO TOLKIEN) so I fully believe in Nimloth's potential to become a Huorn if only she had been given enough time... (Treebeard voice) the Akallabêth was too hasty she couldn't keep up...

Honestly ok listen... From here on it's literally just me using your message as an excuse to ramble about the Nimloth tree in my Akallabêth headcanons so feel free to ignore... It's just, this ask tickled me a little because it's something I think a LOT about but I don't think I have ever posted about so that means we are just

I love thinking about the last three generations of the Númenorean royal family: Gimilzôr and Inzilbêth, Gimilkhâd and Inziladûn, and Míriel and Pharazôn. I'm particularly invested in Míriel and it's tough, because I obsess over her relationship with her father but, try as I may, I simply cannot seem to unfridge her mother. I can never imagine a mother for Míriel and believe me I have tried!!

Instead, I draw and write and think a LOT about post-Inziladûn's-death Míriel looking for comfort in the tree... Going to it, identifying with it, looking to it for protection - the tree as a replacement for mother/family? The tree that grew in the palace where she was once safe and that now is a prison to both? They are both planted there and can't escape :/ But the tree endured all this time...

I have also used Nimloth to explore some of Gimilkhâd's mother issues (as I perceive them), so in that fic she was intimidating and offputing...

Maybe it's because the tree is definitely feminine and so ancient. The mythical royal mother to Elros's (or Earendil's?) ancestral royal father-ness? I guess I'm talking about it in a way that is way more symbolic than what you intended, but wow yes, the Nimloth tree as a surrogate mother... Love it :') And then, ofc, Pharazôn DESTROYS her :'D It's lovely though how Isildur then can't save Númenor/Nimloth, but he can carry on her legacy and plant her again (Gondor), but this time... they're more like siblings, no? You both always found it funny the two of you had bipolar body temperatures, he was extremely warm and you extremely cool. Cuddles sessions were the best. No caps. It ways always a win-win since he warms you up and you cool him down. 

Fuegoleon enjoyed the sunlight and being in the open, so in the beginning he was slightly upset that you couldn’t join him under the sun, but subsequently he got used to it and always watched out for you. 

He got you hats, umbrellas and when needed, he had you hidden under salamander’s wings. 

He also grew accustomed to your blood eating, since you never harmed a human life and only hunted for animals. He would help you hunt for animals and made sure you never got hungry. 

I would feel that no matter how much Fue loved someone, he wouldn't change himself, so he wouldn't turn into a vampire and live with you till the end of time.

He would treasure all the time you had together and would make sure you had the happiest time with him.

Nozel Silva 

This man never really liked being out in daylight anyway so he loved the fact that you were a vampire.

He enjoyed your company into the late nights when he couldn't sleep because of his insecurities and stress.

He made sure your room had the best block out curtains so sunlight couldn't get in.

He brought you raw animal blood and had the servants pack them into little blood packs for you, so you could eat them whenever you were hungry.

You both loved riding his silver eagle under the moonlight and going for late night rendezvous when you two were feeling it.

Although you were a strong individual and could hold on your own fights, he would still always protect you and look out for you.

I guess that this royal would be open to the idea of turning into a vampire for you so you both could keep each other company forever.

He doesn't really like everyone so finding someone whom he loved was really rare for him and he would be okay to give everything up.

William Vangeance

Being someone that was cursed and someone that shared his body with an elf, he would definitely accept you with open arms.

He would be understanding about whatever you did and what you needed, as long as you didn't take innocent lives. He just didn't want you to walk down the same path he did, living in regrets of his actions.

Whenever you felt weak because you were low in blood supply, he would immediately go hunting and bring back lots of animals for you to feast on.

He was always amused by your fast speed and superhuman strength but he was never afraid of you. He had 100% trust in you.

Would also be open to the idea of turning into a vampire and living with you and protecting you forever, but he would also focus and treasure the times he had with you in this lifetime.

i've seen so many fanarts where illu would break the news to the zoldycks or how killu would react to having hisoka as his brother in law- like srsly it's meme worthy at this point- and lotsa ones that showed how hisoka proposed as a joke or smtg but... I've been overthinking abt it these past few days sO i present to you how i think "the big question aka the proposal" happened... (manga spoilers??)

it's after hisoka resurrected himself obviously, and def after he killed kortopi and shalnark (so he knew there was gonna be empty slots in the spiders' lineup)

i imagine illu went back to the zoldyck estate after the whole fiasco and only heard of hisoka's "death" from rumors while he was on a mission

and then when he was idk maybe contemplating on whether or not he should visit the body(?) to pay respects or something, he gets a text message from the devil himself

their text went like this probably:

hisoka: hey~ where are you right now?♠️ (and no u can't tell me hisoka doesn't text w card suits u just can't-)

illumi: who are you and how did you get the phone you are currently using?

hisoka: ooh~ illu~ i feel betrayed, did you delete my number?♣️

illumi: hisoka is dead

hisoka: *image attached*

illumi: oh

illumi: hello hisoka, how are you still alive?

hisoka: you sound disappointed~♦️

illumi: i kind of am...

hisoka: rude, just tell me where you are♥️

...and that's how they met up?? ngl i think illu has a know-it-all syndrome where he just has to,,, k n o w everything

he's curious so he agrees to the meetup ofc

he's also surprised when he sees hisoka is in good shape when they meet (idk at a bar in an unknown city?)

they drink whiskey on the rocks because... you know...

hisoka explains how he survived and his next plan of action (which is terminate the spiders)

illumi makes a mental note of nen after death bc he's heard and seen it all before but... not to this extent,

this is gonna be,,, bland but i think this is the logic behind why hisoka chose to get married/engaged instead of just paying up front (reference to the ten dons' commission to get chrollo killed and chrollo's commission to get the ten dons killed)--

anyways here's how their conversation goes:

i: "why did you want to talk in person?"

h: "oh y'know, for old times sake."

i: "...right"

hisoka laughs, "okay so maybe i want to ask you for a favor..?"

confused, illumi asks, "why could you not have just texted if you wanted me to kill someone for you?"

h: "no, no- wait, actually, you're not too far off."

i: ~mOrE cOnfUsiOn~ "huh?"

h: "how do contracts for assassination work in your... family business?"

i: "half the promised pay before, the remaining half afterwards. should the target be eliminated by a third party, the assigned zoldyck still gets the pay and should the employer die, then the contract is terminated and the zoldyck will report back immediately."

h: "and has anyone made a contract to have themselves terminated?"

i: "i beg your pardon?"

h: "what complications will arise should your employer's target be... themselves?"

i: "i believe... i have never encountered such circumstance before. the people who hire us are those who have enough money and resource to have their enemies killed quickly. no one's tried to test the zoldyck assassination prowess."

h: "so... how will that work?"

i: "are you implying this is the reason why you have contacted me today?"

h: "yes~ ♥️" (how he said a heart emoji out loud is up to you, reader)

i: "it will be a pointless paradox. logically, the zoldyck will only get the employment bill. and i, myself, do not find pleasure in going for the kill like you lest i get my reward, so you will not get a contract out of me, hisoka."

h: "is there no leeway?"

i: "a zoldyck stands up to their word. so no."

h: "even for a friend?~ ♦️"

i: "we are not friends, hisoka-"

hisoka raises his glass of whiskey along with his eyebrow.

i: "oh..."

h: "didn't you tell dear killua that a zoldyck didn't need friends?"

i: "you... are an associate, someone reliable in the killing world. it's different."

i: "i ask you for favors and you make me return them. it is not like we spend our time together leisurely like killu with that island boy..."

hisoka clinks their matching glasses of whiskey even though his is already empty, a shit-eating grin on his lips.

i: "you suggested we meet here."

h: "this isn't the first time we went out to drink, right illu?"

i: "regardless!! i will not kill you just for half the money. i do not like wasting efforts on fruitless missions."

h: "as i said, is there no exception, to make sure you get my money if you were to succeed in killing me?"

i: "are you doubting my skill, hisoka?"

h: "that's not the point right now~ ♠️"

i: "wait, why do you want me to get all of your money?"

h: "haven't we just gotten over this subject? because you're my friend, of course."

i: "i... we are not friends, hisoka."

hisoka claps, "that's it! illumi!! ♣️"

i: "eh?"

h: "marry me! that way in our prenup I'll make sure you get all of my money, and even without a prenup you'll still get it since you'll be my only relative! that solves it!"

and in one fell swoop, illumi has a pin against the curve of hisoka's jugular, wrist held tightly by hisoka- a card matching against his own neck.

"not yet, dear husband." hisoka whispered into his ear, "we have to manage the papers first. and i've a request before you do."

they let each other go at the same time, not even breathing an unnecessary breath in the other's personal space (well, they're nearly pressed thigh to thigh anyways, what's the point of personal space anymore-)

"a condition rather than a request, really."

"what?" hisoka orders them refills, and downs his when it arrives.

"join the ryodan first."

glass already pressed on thin lips, illumi's confused hum resonates softly into the concave utensil. "why?"

"so things can get more interesting. i assume you know of the dark continent expedition that's soon to take place?"

"father has advised i take part on it, since kalluto told me the ryodan plans to rob some cliches who'll join the expedition- to look after him. you want me to join them?"

"yes, and i plan to board as well, don't fret."

illumi's eyes turn to slits, "how should i know you would be there? i can't take your word when you might just disappear when we've all boarded."

hisoka grins, wide then wider, "you should know by now illu, i plan to avenge my wounded pride. that damned chrollo didn't even fight me properly."

tilting his head, illumi stared at the man beside him, "is that not contradictory? i thought you did not mind your opponent using whatever means necessary to win?"

"magicians use tricks and misdirection to awe the audience," hisoka says almost thoughtlessly, "chrollo's a narcissistic hypnotist who used the audience as a damned shield because he knew he couldn't handle me face-to-face."

he groans, tinged in regret. "i shouldn't have picked heaven's arena, if i'd chosen a more discreet location then maybe the damage won't be this bad."

"damage?" illumi rests his chin on his palm, facing his husband.

hisoka swipes a hand over his face, and the glamour comes off. the picture he sent illumi now present in front of him. he was missing a nose, his left hand didn't have any finger left and dried blood chipped on his white skin. "oh."

with another swipe, everything's made correct again. hisoka was grinning again. he downs the remaining alcohol and leaves jenny bills under the emptied glass.

"come, lovely husband. we're to elope and legalize our union!"

illumi follows suit after downing his own glass, "i think there might be another loop hole, if you were to join the family. zoldycks do not kill family."

"so if i were to wed you, here and now, you'd think me more of a family than alluka?"

"alluka is not family."

"are those your words, illumi? or silva's?"

"i..."

"wow, you're really just as fucked up as i am."

"where do you plan to take me? i've just said i cannot kill family."

hisoka chuckles, "then you're the one to take my name, of course."

"who the hell still uses that word?"

"exactly. it's just legal papers, if you kill me then you'll just be a widow and even get your name back! see how everything'll work out in the end?"

later that night, when they leave a chapel, something gold glimmers on hisoka's bungee gum/texture surprise ring finger. a matching one around illumi's finger.

unlike hisoka, though, illumi had an extra red glimmer right under that gold, in the dead center of a silver band of intricately designed pattern. hisoka had foregone the traditional diamond in favor of a 16 carat ruby engagement ring, such a curious choice but illumi accepted it all the same...

(much later on, hisoka took both rings as collateral and reminded illumi that he would get them back even if he died bc it was in their damn prenup- and bc it was technically bought under illumis name and that's how hisoka assured illu that he'd be on that black whale,,, bc he had the rings and planned to give them back to him there)

- Silva was definitely not intimidated by you the first time you and him met. From being a professional assassin, it would take a lot more than some random person to try and unnerve him (if anything it could’ve been the other way around). 

- The more and more you and Silva began to talk, the more he found himself become interested in you. There was something abut you that he liked, though Silva couldn’t really put his finger on it. From then on, he would often end up observing you and your personality, or asking you random questions in an attempt to find more about you.

- After a while, Silva had a feeling that this interest you sparked in him was probably because there was something more to it. He considered the fact if he was actually starting to grow feelings for you, though he didn’t want to label it right away. To try and determine if these feelings were present or not, Silva wanted to spend more time with you to make sure that what he was feeling wasn’t just something Silva was looking into too much.

- After being around you more often, it was safe to say that the assassin definitely caught feelings. The way he would approached this was to wait until he was sure that you had feelings back for him. From that on, Silva would analyze you more to try and see if there were any hints that you might’ve felt the same way. 

- Now skip ahead to when you guys are actually a thing, Silva’s definitely going to be very possessive with you. It’s a very common thing for him to get jealous, ESPECIALLY if he sees someone else trying to flirt with you. Silva will immediately step in, positive to think that his brooding looks are enough to scare that person off. But if that isn’t enough for them to get the message, then Silva definitely isn’t afraid to resort to other tactics.. 👀

- During those rare soft moments though, I can imagine a more “cuddly” Silva. He would be laying down in one of his rooms whiles having you on top of his chest. Even though he’s very cold most of the time, Silva gives off this very comforting warmth to him. The whole time you’re laying on him, he’ll also have a very muscular arm wrapped around you. Though it might feel heavy at first, his hold has a very protective sense to it, which also reflects Silva’s feelings toward you.

- Even though he might not say or show it most of the time, Silva thinks very highly of you. You actually mean so much to this one brute of a man, and if something bad were to ever happen to you? Then who know’s what the hell he would do.

In terms of physically blending colours, I’ve played around with the smudge tool in Photoshop and find it quite fun. There’s also the mixer brush. Both can create nice effects and help blend colours together in fun and interesting ways, so I’d encourage you to experiment.

For painting in colour, I like to reference a mix of photos (for seing how light/colour works), artworks (if they perfectly capture a mood I’m aiming for, I look closer to examine how they have achieved it), as well as my own memory bank. I also muck around a great deal. I play with things like colour lookup and colour balance and honestly sometimes just puddle until it looks “right”.

Sometimes I start with a greyscale sketch and use layers to dump colours on top, sometimes I have clear colours in my head and sketch in colour from the get go. If you want more tips, I’d encourage you to look up artists’ painting/colouring processes on youtube, or books on colour/light/painting (see Color and Light by James Gurney) as there are many great people out there who can explain it a lot more eloquently than myself. (Another great resource is the Muddy Colors blog).

!! i love faerie tales! could you tell me/tell me about the oldest one?

so like, idek if you remember sending this ask because it was probably months ago and i kept forgetting/never had time to reply. oops. srry. but NOW, I am wine drunk and procrastinating an important email. let’s do this.

a little background on fairytale phylogenetics: basically, it’s the same process used in normal phylogenetics. in biology, there are genes that mutate at certain rates, eg: around once every ten thousand years or so. ofc, it’s not exact, but it does give an approximate timetable for when it split from another lineage. fairy tales, too, ‘mutate’, especially in the time of oral tradition. the specifics of the stories change, and sometimes they diverge into separate stories, and parts of one story may be blended into another in a process called syncretization.

(speaking of gene mutation, I’d just like to note that referring to species such as the coelacanth and ginkgo tree as ‘living fossils’ is a bit of a misnomer; while their outward traits closely resemble their archaic ancestors, their genes are still evolving at the same rate as the rest of the world. much of this evolution occurs in the ‘junk DNA’ and has no distinguishable effect on the species, but they’re still evolving all the same. anyways. ramble ramble I’m getting off topic.)

i should note, p much everything about fairytale phylogenetics comes from this study led by Sara Graça da Silva and Jamshid J. Tehrani. It’s a bit dense, but an interesting read with accessible language. … maybe. disclaimer: I’m really pretentious and use words like ‘ostentatious’ and ‘visceral’ in casual conversation, so my concept of ‘accessible’ may be a bit skewed.

anyways.

there are some interesting finds: beauty and the beast and rumplestiltskin go back t h o u s a n d s of years. around 4,000 years, to be exact. jack and the beanstalk, too, belong to a grouping of fairytales labeled as ‘The Boy Who Stole The Ogre’s Treasure’, and can be traced back to around 5,000 years. for reference: that was around the time when indo-european language families split. these fairytales are older than english, italian, french, and latin. as in, the languages. these fairytales are older than the language you’re using right now.

but they’re still not the oldest. no, that distinction belongs to a group of folktales originating 6,000 years ago in the bronze age, called The Smith And The Devil. a blacksmith trades his soul to the devil in exchange for making the perfect swords or whatever, and then tricks the devil into giving back his soul.

sound familiar?

yup. the Faustian Pact is the oldest story that still survives to this day, practically unchanged. the trickster and the devil are the oldest human archetypes. I’d like to end this on an interesting note, but it’s been so long since I’ve been in school that I’ve forgotten how to end essays. oops. it’s just rly neat to see which stories have survived the test of years; these are only the fairytales that we know, that somehow managed to persist to the modern day. imagine: there are hundreds of thousands, or millions of fairytales that have been told in the past, in a language that no one alive today can comprehend. for as long as we’ve had language, humans have been telling stories. I think this says something about us as a species.

(disclaimer: this type of rigorous study has only been applied to Indo-European folktales. there are many other folktales within different cultures with distinct centres of origin; for example, while there is some crossover, Asian and African folktales have different motifs and archetypes from Indo-European ones. I’d love to see these types of studies applied to fairytales and folktales from different cultures)

Oh yeah, I agree, he is a terrible father.  I kinda like his character, but he is a horrid father, but...

Im not saying you, I know how much you hate Silva and think he is a terrible father.  But I see a lot people give Silva a pass, and think Ging is the worse father ever, and that Silva is just cool and badass.  

I have even seen people say that he is actually a pretty decent if not good father.  For multiple reasons, like how he seems to “care” for Killua and his family, and his training (abuse) helped Killua survive and stuff, and etc.  

Dude, I love the Zoldycks (and the servants, butlers, and apprentice butlers too) as characters (they are pretty cool and badass, but not just that) and for the super duper dysfunctional, with lots of layers, great characterization, dynamics, mystery, assassin murder, Addams  family on steroids family that they are.  But most of them are still awful people, and Silva is an awful father.

Basically, where my rant is going is that while I believe Ging is an awful father, I did not think he worse than some other fathers in HxH including Silva, who is one of the worse fathers Ive ever seen in fiction.  

Though its not just Silva, the Zoldycks parents:  Father and mother have been screwing up their kids for generations, at some point someone did the same to Silva, no excuse for him being horrible, but it was sad that seems for the most part until Killua and Alluka/Nanika (crossing my fingers at least Kalluto too in the future) the Zoldyck family have been abusing, messing, and screwing up their kids in a seemingly never-ending generational cycle, its sad really.  

Anyways, not comparing trauma or anything here, but just dont think Ging is the worse father in HxH, sure he is one of the worse fathers Ive ever seen, but in HxH he is still terrible and no-good, but not worse than people like Silva who pretty much screwed up all his kids to various degrees, been emotional/mentally/probably physically or at least for someone else to do it like Kikyo, Milluki, or Illumi so he can keep playing good cop manipulative and abusive, turned them into killer robots/child soldiers basically, locked one of them up in a basement for years, and other stuff.  

I also think Silva is a way worse person than Ging.  Im sorry for kinda going off there, but I cant see how many times Silva has given a pass, and thinks he is okay and that Ging is way worse of a father, dont know it just kinda annoys me.  Im not saying u are doing that, but it actually a take and thing I see often, and I just dont know why.  I mean I guess kinda do, Silva comes off way cooler and scarier than Ging, and Ging comes off very hateable, which he is but still.  

I actually like SIlva and his character more, find SIlva way less insufferable than Ging, but I still admit that Silva is a way worse person than Ging.  Ging still isnt a great person though, but I wouldnt say he is like more of the Zoldycks and PT members who are borderline irredeemable.  Though, like the Main 4, I found the Zoldycks, PT, Paristion, and Ging to all be interesting good characters, is just that most of them are horrible people, not all of course, defin. not the Main 4, but some.  

Also, not defending Ging and how much he has messed up Gon, because like Killua and his family, Ging has defin. messed him up, but I find it kinda unfair to completely blame Ging for how Gon is and the actions he takes.  While Gon is a child, he is still his own person, and dont think its completely fair to blame Ging for Gon and some of personality traits and issues, esp. considering that he had Mito and Abe there to raise him, and they loved him dearly.  I know Mito did kinda shelter and cuddle him, kinda lie to him too, I can understand why though, she was resentful towards Ging, and she ended up having to raise a child at 14, things werent easy for her.  

Ofc, being in the wilds a lot, also contributed a lot to how Gon developed as a person and his morals and values.  Anyways, my point is, yes Ging played a huge role in screwing up Gon, and do however think its unfair to completely blame him, and not other factors into account, and Gon himself and hos own personality and choices.  

Im not blaming Gon here at all, he is a child with issues who needs help.  All of the main 4 and really most of HxH needs to go to therapy.  I just wanted to give my cents to some of this Ging, Gon, plus others I brought up discourse.  Also, leave it off here with this, I dont think Ging is the worse father ever.  

I think Silva is way worse, he and the other adults have completely messed up their kids, and they turn mess up their siblings and will mess up their own kids if the cycle continues, luckily it seems broken with Killua, Alluka/Nanika, and maybe Kalluto someday too (I would hope for Illumi and Milluki to break it too, but honestly it may be too late for them), but he is one of the worse I have seen still, and Ging while having a couple qualities, is also mostly a selfish, pretty unlikable, and punchable prick, and deserved to get punched by Leo and more.  

Anyways, done for now, might edit to this or make a new posts/additions later.  Hope my take doesnt upset anyone or anything, and its not all of it, I could go further into my thoughts on the Zoldycks and Freecss families, but I would be here forever, and this would get even longer.  Have a awesome whatever time it is for you.

ging is the worst dad I've ever fucking seen.

first of all because he abandoned his child, thus creating a shitton of trauma for gon, but ALSO because he didn't stop at the physical abandonment.

he also kept on emotionally abandoning gon. that hunt, that chase, made gon feel like if he showed one bit of weakness, he was not worthy of seeing his dad. that warped his self worth deeply, making him feel like his only worth was through finding ging.

add the fact that ging literally kept on reinforcing that idea (for example by literally testing him with greed island-which I'm sure he didn't have bad intentions, but I'm pretty sure gon took the message as "if you can't beat the game you're not worthy of seeing me")

in short, Ging is literally the source of every single thing that's wrong with Gon. I'm going over it in my meta post that I'm writing but yeah, fuck ging. he basically is the sole reason for Gon's twisted self worth, suicidal behavior, weakness complex and his constant need to prove his worth at any cost.
