Formal OC Introductions - Sophia Reynolds

The daughter of Malcolm Reynolds and Zhān Xiulan, Sophia spent her first seven years on her family's ranch on Shadow with no idea of the looming danger - she had her family and that was all that really mattered to her. Then the Alliance started getting even more powerful and when war erupted her dad left to fight - for her, to make sure she didn't grow up under tyranny.

Sophia never expected the war would come to her, but that was what happened when the Alliance targeted Shadow due to the number of rebels who'd come from there - an early warning meant she and her mother `got off Shadow, but they were two of only around two hundred who managed to do so - many thousands more being killed by the orbital bombardment, one so intense the planet was rendered uninhabitable, and this was an experience that would haunt her for years to come. She and her mom managed to get to safety, but there was no way of contacting her father - and after the war ended in the Alliance's favour, no way of finding out if he'd even survived.

This devastated her and finding out a couple years later he wasn't her biodad made no difference because Mal was her father - the man who'd raised her, who'd read to her, who'd sung to her, who'd once promised that she would get to travel the stars with him when she was older, and she refuses to accept that he's gone because he can't be. He promised. But she has to make do without him, and six years after the war's end has made friends and is working various odd-jobs in her town and picking a few not-quite-legal skills along the way. When a somewhat battered Firefly lands in the shipyard she thinks little of it...

Until she heads to the tavern and finds out that Serenity's captain is Mal Reynolds. And it's a mutual shock because he recognises her immediately - but doesn't believe it at first because it turns out he thought she and her mother were dead, that they'd never gotten off Shadow, that half a year after Serenity Valley he finally accepted this fact and had been quietly mourning them for the past six years with only his first mate Zoe aware of their existence. It's an emotionally fraught situation and that's before finding out he's harbouring two Alliance fugitives, and Sophia knows that it won't be easy fitting back into his life after all this time...

But Mal's willing to try and so's she, and she has the feeling that it'll work out - because family, true family, always come through for each other in the end.

sorry this took me forever to respond, but oh god i legit have sooo many. this is gonna be a long post so im sorry in advanced lol. ( these are not in order im literally just going through my oc tag ).

✶ sawyer reynolds pb gifset because sophia’s gifs blends so nicely with marvel gifs and i just love it a lot okay.

✶ nevea pb gifset. i have to say, most of the manips were spot on in this edit and i made a lot of the cm gifs from scratch so i am very happy with that.

✶ thor + andromeda ( the night we met ). the first and last gif own my soul.

✶ thor + andromeda ( i am yours ). hands down the best edit i’ve ever made.

✶ dom + team iron man. i’m pretty sure this hadn’t been before but I do love how it turned out and I got to make edits with characters i haven’t done yet.

✶ s.h.i.e.l.d. enhanced asset #11. this took me HOURS bc I had to recolor jalba since she is e x t r e m l y whitewashed in f4, but im beyond proud of it.

✶ dakota + fangs ( relationship progression ). i’m not gonna lie, i think this gifset was the longest it took for me to complete. like i was actively working on it for over a week and i made mostly every single gif so im adding it onto this.

✶ thor + andromeda ( ah, those two ). do i even need to explain this one?

✶ chamberty + social media. it took me over three hours of just screaming at my computer for all the times ps crashed, but hey it turned out alright.

✶ death ringer act dividers 2, 3, 4, 5. i always look back on these gifts so much bc they mean so much to me. i loath the coloring i used before 5 ( it made her look so whitewashed i hate myself ) but still my favorite trend i’ve ever done.

It's Work-in-Progress Wednesday and I've been working on a couple of them! First up is, of course, from the first part of my Aquafam AU, this time from Arthur's POV, just after the revelation about what Orvax had been telling his brother (Arthur is...very pissed off, and very worried)

Orvax had been a bastard. Arthur had known this, even before he knew of Orm’s existence, and he’d been well aware of how pervasive his influence was, knew he was the reason Orm had turned out like he did, and it had been a real battle at times not to insult the man, because despite everything, Orm still got very defensive. And Arthur didn’t want to jeopardize their relationship so he’d been waiting for the day when his brother admitted he’d been a shitty father. But this. The fact that not only had Orvax sacrificed Mom to the Trench in a jealous rage, but had then turned around and convinced their son that Arthur would come to kill him— It made him angry. It made him furious. Not once had he ever considered killing his little brother, and it was a good thing that Orvax was dead, because…what kind of parent did that? One who didn’t deserve to be called a parent, that's for damn sure – the fact Orm had tried to deflect, had visibly tried to stop himself crying, had told him everything. Bastard. He hoped Orvax was rotting in whatever the Atlantean equivalent of Hell was.

(All the Currys hate Orvax, by the by - Maia and Arthur both voice this thought later on)

I also started working on my Firefly AU. This part is from Mal's POV - it's his kid's birthday, but he thinks she died on Shadow as a seven-year-old, so he's feeling awful and very guilty about everything.

Sophia would've been eighteen today. Mal always remembered her birthday, had known this particular milestone-that-wasn't was coming and had been feeling steadily worse about it for several weeks, and as he sat up the grief hit him like a freight train, as it always did. Eighteen. His daughter would've been eighteen. She'd have been taking her first steps into becoming a young woman down whatever path she'd chosen for herself and Mal knew he would've been so proud of her in whatever field she'd chosen, knew in his heart that she'd have succeeded... But she'd never gotten the chance - hadn't even gotten the chance to grow up, and as he reached inside the cabinet for the only image he had left of her, the guilt threatened to swamp him again as he looked at the bright, smiling six-year-old. It had cost a lot to get the camera, all those years ago, but he'd wanted to preserve the memories, be able to keep the memories of his kid and his best friend. If only he'd known. If only he'd realised how much danger they'd be in- This was, Mal knew, an utterly useless line of thinking. Point was, he hadn't known, and he hadn't been there, and no amount of wishing would get them back.

(Sophia and Xiulan turn out to be alive, but that doesn't erase the years worth of grief).

So this is kind of apropos of nothing, and perhaps kind of obvious, but when it comes to creating fandom OCs, it’s alright if they change from how they started - even legacy OCs!! Like I have a number of legacy OCs and so far what’s happened is:

A bio kid changed to a adoptive/stepkid

A bio kid changed to a cousin

2 adoptive kids changed to bio kids

A bio kid changed to a bio sister

So it’s honestly fine if they change when you’re not looking.

It's not so much a question of that as hoping they don't exist - between her homeworld being firebombed and being half convinced her father's dead, she doesn't want to be haunted and doesn't want anyone she knew to not be able to move on.

It’s been a while since I’ve done any fancasts, so here’s an extra two!! Firstly, for my Firefly fic, is Chloe Bennet as Astra Reynolds Shen, Mal’s outspoken eighteen-year-old stepdaughter whose existence is a shock for the crew of Serenity when they land on her home planet, as none of them except for Zoe even knew Mal had a kid, because for the past six years he thought she never made it off Shadow, so there’s a heartwarming reunion early on, and she ends up joining the crew.

The second is Keke Palmer as my Lucifer OC whose current name is Ruth Fremont, a Nephilim with the twist of her mother - in as much as gender applies to angels - Jophiel, being the angelic parent (this OC came about as S2 was airing and as I rather like my version of Jophiel I say fuck you to canon), and whose age is none of your business (for the moment let’s say say she is much, much older than she looks). This character is still in development, but she’s seen a lot, has basically most Celestial powers, and has a number of friends and connections spanning the multiverse, and regards Lucifer as one of her favourite uncles.. She starts getting involved in things near the end of S1, but beyond that I don’t know as I’ve only watched up to part of S2 so looks like we’re all going to have to watch this space!
